Ara (Arrah), Ballia (Balia), Chapra and Deoria are known as “ABCD” of India due to their people’s conformity of language, heritage and culture. The history as mentioned in the ‘Ain-E-Akbari records Saran as one of the six Sarkars (Revenue Divisions) constituting the province of Bihar including Saran and Champaran. Gautam Asthan

Gautam Sthan at Revelganj is situated on the bank of the holy river Saryu or Ghaghara some 8 kilometres west of Chapra, Bihar, India. It is said that this is the place where Devi Ahilya, the beautiful wife of Saint Gautam Rishi was salvated and metamorphosed from the rock to woman by Lord Sri Ram while going to Janakpur with his reverend Guru Muni Vishwamitra. A beautiful temple of Rishi Gautam, his wife Ahilya, his son Satanand Ji who performed the marriage ceremony of Bhagwan Ram and Devi Sita at Janakpur, his daughter Devi Anjani, the mother of Bajrangbali, and above all, the immortal pious imprints of Bhagwan Ram has been built at this most holy place. The other small temples in the premises are of Lord Indradev, Chandradev and Bhagwan Shiv Shambhu.
