Def Leppard & Motley Crue Coming To Fargo In August

Rockers Def Leppard & Motley Crue are coming to the Fargodome on August 11, 2023. The World Tour stop in Fargo will also feature special guest Alice Cooper. Tickets go on sale on Friday, December 16th.

Hot off the heels of the biggest North American stadium tour of 2022 with more than 1.3 million tickets sold, the world’s most iconic and celebrated rock legends Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe are going global in 2023 with their co-headline ‘The World Tour’ along with special guest Alice Cooper. After the launch of European and Latin American dates, the U.S. dates have been announced today.

“After finally getting back on the road this past summer, we’re beyond thrilled to bring this massive tour to a global audience including some special dates in America!” said Joe Elliott of Def Leppard.

“We had an incredible time playing The Stadium Tour in North America this summer and we truly can’t wait to take the show around the globe with The WORLD Tour in 2023. Crüeheads get ready because we have a few amazing U.S. dates set for you!” Mötley Crüe said in a joint statement.

With more than 110 million albums sold worldwide and two prestigious Diamond Awards in the U.S., 2019 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame® inductees Def Leppard – Joe Elliott (vocals), Phil Collen (guitar), Rick Savage (bass), Vivian Campbell (guitar) and Rick Allen (drums) — continue to be one of the most important forces in rock music. Over the course of their career the band has produced a series of classic ground-breaking albums that set the bar for generations of music fans and artists alike. The group’s spectacular live shows and arsenal of hits have become synonymous with their name, leading Def Leppard to be heralded as the world’s greatest live rock band.

Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Alice Cooper bring World Tour to Fargo

FARGO (KVRR) – Rock legends Def Leppard, Motley Crue and Alice Cooper are coming to Fargo.

Their 2023 World Tour is scheduled to perform at the Fargodome on Friday, Aug. 11.

Citi cardmembers will have access to presale tickets beginning Tuesday, December 13th at 10 am local time. Tickets for the general public go on sale Thursday, Dec. 15.

“After finally getting back on the road this past summer, we’re beyond thrilled to bring this massive tour to a global audience including some special dates in America!” said Joe Elliott of Def Leppard.

“We had an incredible time playing The Stadium Tour in North America this summer and we truly can’t wait to take the show around the globe with The WORLD Tour in 2023. Crueheads get ready because we have a few amazing U.S. dates set for you!” Motley Crue said in a joint statement.

Def Leppard has sold more than 110 million albums and is a member of the Rock Hall of Fame. Motley Crue, with over 100 million records sold, has 7 USA platinum and multi-platinum albums

Alice Cooper has been called the “Godfather of Shock Rock” and has been performing since the 1960’s.

How Fargo band The Newz survived 40 years on the road, run-ins with Huey Lewis, crazy Canadians and more

The group celebrates the release of all of its albums on streaming services with a saturday concert at fargo brewing..

FARGO — At the group’s peak in the early 1980s, the members of The Newz were road warriors, spending up to 300 days on tour annually, trying to break out and be the next big thing.

They recorded albums, but without a major record label behind them, they didn’t get much airplay or distribution, and eventually the members went on to do their own things.

The core of the group — singer/guitarists Jon Nyborg, Gordon Christensen and bassist Brad Kittelson — is back and playing one of its first shows in decades Saturday night at Fargo Brewing Company . The gig is significant, not just as a reunion, but because on Saturday all four of the group’s albums will be available on all streaming platforms for the first time.

The band is no longer trying to make it big, or even make much money. And touring isn't even a consideration. Now that they are all retired and in their 70s, they just want to do what they love — play music.

“It’s kind of like bringing children into the world,” Kittelson said of finally releasing all of the group's music online. “You have these songs inside of you and you want to get them out. You want your friends and family to hear them.”

The band started out in the late 1970s covering acts like The Police, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, The Romantics, The Stray Cats and Greg Khin. Members would sprinkle in an original tune or two, like “Popular Boy,” “Tear it Up,” and “Doesn’t Matter.”

“Just to get people to see us, we were doing covers,” Nyborg said. "Then we started creeping new material in there. Before you knew it, they were singing along to our songs."

The group’s songs were power pop rock, and members dressed the part in skinny ties, suit coats and flipped collars.

Nyborg remembered playing three one hour sets with a complete wardrobe change during each break.

“Dressing mattered,” Christensen said. “We looked like we were in the band, not the road crew.”

The trio became regulars at the local bars of the time, like Kirby’s, The Lamplight, The Zodiac, Sunset lanes and The Eastgate, all in Moorhead as well as the Monte Carlo in Fargo and The Spud and Level Seven in East Grand Forks.

The local music scene was very active at the time featuring bands like The Phones, The Metros and The Nitro Brothers. Things were particularly busy on the Minnesota side where the drinking age was 18 until 1986.

The Newz caught on beyond the Red River Valley and the group regularly played from Missoula, Montana, to Chicago, down to Omaha, up to Flin Flon, Manitoba (nine hours north of Minot) and all places in between.

“Canada was crazy,” Kittelson said. “People would come out of the bush there ... And then they'd bring stuff like bear meat and other things they’d been hunting. It was very unique.”

“They treated us like kings,” Nyborg said.

The band didn’t get the royal treatment everywhere. Members recall rough crowds in South Dakota and Nebraska.

“I wish they would’ve had chicken fencing,” Kittelson said. “Sometimes they’d mistakenly book us into biker bars.”

One of the worst club experiences was in their hometown. After playing a weekend show at The Monte Carlo, Nyborg remembers pulling up Monday morning to get paid. He wasn’t alone. A group of beer and liquor delivery drivers were trying to figure out why no one was answering the door, only to discover the owner skipped town with all of the money.

Nyborg said the band got the last laugh, as the group’s name stayed on the building’s marquee for over a decade while the space went unoccupied.

With the bigger tours came more gear, a road crew, trucks and buses to haul the gear and road crew and Lincoln Town Cars, in which the band traveled.

“I like old cars,” Nyborg said, nodding at his amp where he’s placed a chrome Studebaker logo where the amp manufacturer’s name should be.

Their reputation as a live band earned them opening spots for Cheap Trick, Def Leppard, Greg Khin, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and The Tubes.

“They were so much fun,” Kittelson said of the latter.

One group they may have not had as much fun with was Huey Lewis and the News. Kittelson, Nyborg and Christensen made a name for themselves regionally as The News before the San Francisco-based band of a similar name broke out on MTV and national radio in 1982.

The FM group had the name first and sent a note to the other band's management telling them to get a new band name. The move backfired when Lewis' side lawyered up.

“Their label had a bunch of lawyers we couldn’t compete with,” Nyborg said, adding that in 1983 the band became The Newz.

The name change didn’t slow The Newz down and the group kept building a following and some industry buzz.

“We gave it our all in 1987. We had five record companies wanting to sign us. We were close,” Kittelson said. “It didn’t work out and things started to slow down.”

He left the band the next year to go to college, then graduated and worked at Sanford for the next 30 years.

Nyborg and Christensen started the Stanley Gordon band. Stanley being a high school nickname Nyborg could never shake.

“We work well together. I like writing music and he’s good with lyrics,” Nyborg said of Christensen.

Nyborg worked for delivery services during the days and Christensen took day jobs to work around his nighttime performing schedule.

The three regrouped in 1999 to record the album “Two Sides to Every Story” and opened up for Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top at the Fargodome that October. They got back together again for the 2020 album “Life of Crime.” A CD release show was planned for that March, but scrapped when the COVID-19 pandemic stopped everything.

The old friends won’t be promoting a new album this weekend, but are looking forward to playing old favorites.

“It’s been a long time,” Christensen said. “Playing with them, it’s like home, it feels really good. It’s where I should be.”

That’s how new drummer Will Willert feels too.

“This is a dream come true,” Willert said. “They were always my favorite band in the 1980s.”

“It’s a step in the right direction,” Nyborg said. “We want to grow and do more shows.”

But the band isn’t looking to get back on the road. Instead, they want to open for other acts that come through town.

“We don’t want to play bars until 2 a.m. We want to be the opening act,” Kittelson said. “We want to be able to show up and the lights and sound system have already been set up.”

Most importantly, they’re just happy to play together again.

“We’re taking it a little relaxed. It was pretty intense working day and night for years. Now it’s more fun. We don’t have to impress anyone or make a lot of money and there’s no crazy travel,” Kittelson said. “This is an interesting gig for us. A lot of people from our history are coming to see this show. Hopefully it’s not one last big blast.”

Charli XCX & Troye Sivan Announce Sweat North American Tour

Charli XCX and Troye Sivan have been aligned for a long time. Both artists are the kind of streaming-era pop stars who command significant followings even if they don’t have a ton of chart success to show for it. Both are among the most critically acclaimed artists in their fields, known for bringing a stylish experimental edge to their music. They both are especially popular among queer audiences. Back in the late 2010s, they teamed up on the songs “ 1999 ” and “ 2099 .” And now they’re co-headlining an arena tour together.

Charli XCX & Troye Sivan Present: Sweat will traverse North America’s hockey and basketball sheds this fall, starting in Detroit in mid-September and wrapping up in Seattle in late October.
