Tour de France 2023: full team-by-team guide

Our in-depth look at every team, the main riders to watch and the cast of characters racing through France this summer

  • Stage-by-stage guide to this year’s Tour de France

Ag2R-Citroën

Veteran French Tour battlers notorious for wearing brown shorts. Their Australian climber Ben O’Connor had a nightmare in 2022, ripping a muscle in a crash, but O’Connor is back on form this season so they need a repeat of his 2021 feats, with Paret-Peintre and Cosnefroy likely to target hilly stages.

Team Stan Dewulf, ClĂ©ment Berthet, Felix Gall, AurĂ©lien Paret-Peintre, Ben O’Connor, BenoĂźt Cosnefroy, Oliver Naesen, Nans Peters

Main man Ben O’Connor – Aussie mountain man still out to prove 2021’s fourth overall was not a fluke

Alpecin-Deceuninck

From a relatively small cyclo-cross squad this cannily managed Dutch team has grown into a force to be reckoned with, mainly due to the presence of Mathieu van der Poel, the most charismatic racer in the bunch, but also because the team has recruited wisely around him. At the Tour they focus on Jasper Philipsen for the sprints and perhaps the green points jersey, with VdP targeting everything bar the high mountains; he will be a favourite on stage one’s short steep hills. Van der Poel took a long rest after his Classics campaign which seems to have paid off given his form in late June.

Team Silvain Dillier, Michael Gogl, SĂžren Kragh Andersen, Mathieu van der Poel, Quinten Hermans, Jasper Philipsen, Jonas Rickaert, Ramon Sinkeldam

Main man Mathieu van der Poel – flying this year, with two major Classic wins and a dominant display in the Tour of Belgium: expect fireworks.

Mathieu Van Der Poel crosses the line to win the Milano-Sanremo 2023 in March.

Arkea-Samsic

This Breton-centred squad don’t have enough firepower to thrive in cycling’s most competitive milieu. Leader Warren Barguil was the future once but now looks like just another plucky contender. They will put riders in the daily daring moves but it’s hard to foresee a great deal more.

Team Warren Barguil, Clément Champoussin, Simone Guglielmi, Anthony Delaplace, Luca Mozzato, Jenthe Biermans, Matßs Louvel, Laurent Pichon

Main man Warren Barguil. “Wawa” was King of the Mountains and double stage winner in 2017, but there’s only so long you can live off past glories.

Astana Qazaqstan

Kakakhstan’s finest have changed tack by hiring Mark Cavendish; a stage win for the Manxman is the obvious target but there’s not a lot of sprint support here apart from Cees Bol, with Moscon for the grunt work beforehand. To hedge their bets, Federov and Lutsenko will target mountain stages.

Team Mark Cavendish, Aleksei Lutsenko, Cees Bol, David de la Cruz, Yevgeniy Federov, Luis Leon Sanchez, Gianni Moscon, Harold Tejada

Main man Mark Cavendish – the greatest sprinter of all needs one Tour stage win for the absolute record but it won’t be simple given the dearth of sprint stages.

Mark Cavendish celebrates a stage win during this year’s Giro d’Italia.

Bahrain Victorious

Likely to be scarred mentally by the shocking death of Gino MĂ€der in the Tour of Switzerland, but if that tragedy brings them together, most of the riders look to be coming to form and they have a raft of chances to be “victorious” with new British champion Wright, Poels, Bilbao and Mohoric.

Team Niklas Arndt, Phil Bauhaus, Jack Haig, Pello Bilbao, Fred Wright, Mikel Landa, Matej Mohoric, Wout Poels

Main man Mikel Landa – the Basque climber is a cult figure due to his enigmatic, tragic mien; he could make the top five or fall apart. That’s “Landismo”.

Bora-Hansgrohe

Multiple opportunities for Germany’s finest, who pulled an excellently crafted Giro d’Italia win out of the bag last year with Australian climber Jai Hindley – quite the progression since their humble beginnings as team NetApp more than 10 years ago. Once again there is no place for the sprinter Sam Bennett, who has not ridden the Tour since winning two stages and the points prize in 2020. Around Hindley there’s plenty of climbing strength with Konrad, Buchman and Higuita plus a 2022 stage winner in Jungels, and a sprinter who can look after himself in Meeus.

Team Emanuel Buchman, Marco Haller, Jai Hindley, Bob Jungels, Patrick Konrad, Nils Politt, Jordi Meeus, Danny van Poppel, plus one to be named by Friday 30 June

Main man Jai Hindley. Fourth in the recent Criterium du DauphinĂ© bodes well but can he step up into cycling’s most hostile environment?

A team of options and caveats. Zingle, Martin, Lafay, Izaguirre and Geschke can hope for an opportunistic stage win, while Coquard is competitive in a small group finish. But they will struggle to rival the heavyweights so will probably end up with the French fallback: the daily suicide break.

Team Bryan Coquard, Simon Geschke, Ion Izaguirre, Victor Lafay, Guillaume Martin, Anthony Perez, Alexis Renard, Axel Zingle

Main man: Guillaume Martin – a cerebral climber who has written a book on philosophy; he could scrape into the top 10 overall but that looks like his limit.

DSM-Firmenich

This squad doesn’t have the biggest budget but it has a knack of landing key wins when it matters. They split neatly into a climbing half around the evergreen Romain Bardet, and Degenkolb, Edmondson and Eeckhoff in the sprint half in support of Sam Welsford – one of the surprises of this season.

Team Nils Eeckhoff, John Degenkolb, Kevin Vermaerke, Alex Edmondson, Sam Welsford, Matthew Dinham, Chris Hamilton, Romain Bardet.

Main man Romain Bardet. No longer the force he was when he finished second in the 2016 Tour but still capable of a solid top 10 overall.

EF Education-Easypost

The American team that loves to act the kooky underdogs but the facts belie this. They had a great Tour in 2022 thanks to Magnus Cort’s stage win; this year they had notched up 20 race wins by late June. The Olympic champion Carapaz, Bettiol, Uran and Powless could all land a stage.

Team Richard Carapaz, Rigoberto Uran, Neilson Powless, Alberto Bettiol, Esteban Chaves, Magnus Cort, James Shaw, Andrey Amador

Main man Magnus Cort – behind the (sponsored) fighter pilot moustache is a ruthless stage hunter chasing his 10th Grand Tour stage win.

Magnus Cort during a climb in this year’s Giro d’Italia.

Groupama-FDJ

In their 27th Tour, as usual it’s going to be fly or flop, with a bit more pressure after leader David Gaudu’s spat with sprinter Arnaud DĂ©mare sidelined this proven winner. Much loved Thibaut Pinot starts his final Tour; expect tears aplenty, hopefully on the Champs ElysĂ©es rather than before.

Team David Gaudu, Kevin Geniets, Stefan KĂŒng, Olivier Le Gac, Valentin Madouas, Quentin Pacher, Thibaut Pinot, Lars Van den Berg

Main man David Gaudu – is France’s best hope for a podium finish but can he bear the weight of a nation?

Ineos Grenadiers

Once upon a time, the squad reputed to be the richest in cycling were the ones to beat in the Tour, but they have lost direction since Chris Froome’s departure and Egan Bernal’s horrific crash in 2022, and are now scrabbling to keep up with Jumbo and UAE. That’s reflected in a victory haul this season of around half that of the Big Two. A lot hangs on Tom Pidcock, winner at l’Alpe d’Huez last year; with Bernal struggling to return to his best, this line-up prompts a mild chin stroke rather than a sense of shock and awe.

Team Dani MartĂnez, Tom Pidcock, Michal Kwiatkowski, Jonathan Castroviejo, Carlos Rodriguez, Egan Bernal, Omar Fraile, Ben Turner

Main man Tom Pidcock. Super talented and a terrifyingly good bike handler, the 23-year-old Yorkshireman needs to build on a great 2022 race.

Intermarché-Circus-Wanty

Seamless progress for the Walloon team since their Tour debut in 2018. No Belgians in their squad which won’t go down well at home, but they have a real stage win hope in Girmay, a potential top 10 finisher in Meintjes and wildcards such as Calmejane, Costa and Teunissen.

Team Lilian Calmejane, Rui Costa, Biniam Girmay, Louis Meintjes, Adrien Petit, Dion Smith, Mike Teunissen, Georg Zimmerman.

Main man Biniam Girmay – after landing a sprint stage of the Giro last year, the Eritrean is a good bet to become the first black African Tour stage winner.

Israel-PremierTech

With only five wins this year, they need to buck that trend with climber Woods, the punchy Teuns, sprinter Strong or all-rounder Clarke. They will have to box clever, because none of these is the very best at their speciality. No place for Chris Froome after his poor start to 2023.

Team Guillaume Boivin, Simon Clarke, Hugo Houle, Krists Neilands, Nick Schultz, Corbin Strong, Dylan Teuns, Michael Woods

Main man Michael Woods – 36 years old and a four-minute miler in the past, the Canadian is a decent outside bet on any steep uphill finish.

Michael Woods competes in La Route D’Occitanie-La Depeche Du Midi 2023 earlier this month.

Jayco-AlUla

All in for sprinter Groenewegen and climber Yates. Yates has had a lean 2023, but he’s notched up 10 Grand Tour stages since 2018 and will have plenty of chances in a very hard Tour. Harper and Craddock support him in the mountains; Mezgec will deliver Groenewegen in the sprints.

Lawson Craddock, Luke Durbridge, Dylan Groenewegen, Chris Harper, Chris Juul-Jensen, Luka Mezgec, Elmar Reinders, Simon Yates

Main man Dylan Groenewegen. Looking for his sixth career Tour stage win, the Dutchman has had a strong season with half a dozen wins to his name already.

Jumbo-Visma

One of the two “superteams” in the race; there are times when Jumbo seem to win when, how and where they want. Here it’s all in for Vingegaard with KĂŒss, Van Baarle and Kelderman his mountain support crew. The biggest asset is Wout van Aert, the most powerful all-rounder in cycling, who could probably hope to win half a dozen stages if he was the team leader. What’s disconcerting is that Jumbo put out a strong squad to win this year’s Giro with Primoz Roglic, and they can afford to leave all of them out of the Tour including the Slovene.

Team Wilco Kelderman, Dylan van Baarle, Wout van Aert, Tiesj Benoot, Christopher Laporte, Nathan van Hooydonck, Sep KĂŒss, Jonas Vingegaard

Main man Jonas Vingegaard – wraith-like Dane who had the climbing legs to break Tadej Pogacar when it mattered last year, but the second Tour win never comes easy

There’s plenty of value for money here. It’s all about stage wins. The 2019 world champion Mads Pedersen is the best bet, but Skjelmose took the recent Tour of Switzerland while Ciccone landed stages in Catalonia and the DauphinĂ©. They boast three newly crowned national champions in Skjelmose, Kirsch and Simmons.

Giulio Ciccone, Tony Gallopin, Alex Kirsch, Juan Pedro Lopez, Mads Pedersen, Quinn Simmons, Mattias Skjelmose, Jesper Stuyven

Main man Mads Pedersen – he has stage wins at the Giro and Paris-Nice to his name this year, and will have a good chance on the hillier days at the Tour

Lotto-Dstny

Relegated to the second division last season, Belgium’s oldest team put most of their eggs in a basket labelled Caleb Ewan. Most of the team will be dedicated to ensuring he is in the right place at sprint finishes; strongmen Vermeersch and Campenaerts may be let off the leash on the non-sprint days.

Team Caleb Ewan, Jasper de Buyst, Jacopo Guarnieri, Florian Vermeersch, Frederik Frison, Victor Campenaerts, Pascal Eenkhorn, Maxim van Gils

Main man Caleb Ewan – five Tour stages to his name so far, one more would make Lotto’s Tour.

There’s a mid-table look to cycling’s oldest team, a far cry from when Miguel Indurain won five Tours in a row. Mas can target the podium, and Jorgensen is one of the most exciting prospects in the sport, but the fact he’s rumoured to be moving on in 2024 speaks volumes.

Team Alex Aranburu, Ruben Guerreiro, Gorka Izaguirre, Matteo Jorgensen, Enric Mas, Gregor MĂŒhlberger, Neilson Oliveira, Antonio Pedrero

Main man Enric Mas – often the bridesmaid never the bride, the Spaniard is one of the big group targeting third place behind the Big Two while aiming for better if they falter.

Soudal-Quickstep

Belgian winning machine have converted themselves to a Grand Tour team led by Remco Evenepoel, who sits this one out. Here it’s about fidgety Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe and sprinter Fabio Jakobsen. “Juju” is under pressure from manager Patrick Lefevùre and needs to find his former magic touch, while Jakobsen needs to at least repeat his stage win of last year; his five victories this year suggest that’s on the cards with the support of top lead-out man Mþrkþv. Asgreen, Lampaert and Cavagna will support Alaphilippe in the hills and go in the breaks when he’s having a recovery day.

Team Julian Alaphilippe, Yves Lampaert, Tim Decelercq, Dries Devenyns, Fabio Jakobsen, Kasper Asgreen, Michael MĂžrkĂžv, Remi Cavagna

Main man Julian Alaphilippe – double world champion endured a torrid 2022 but has won twice this year and will be a favourite for stage one.

Julian Alaphilippe checks over his shoulder during this year’s Criterium du Dauphine.

TotalEnergies

Once a reservoir of developing French talent, now a home for stars past their sell-by dates such as Boasson-Hagen, Oss and Sagan, while French riders Turgis and Latour are no longer cutting edge. Between them they will deliver various near misses, while a stage win would be a miracle.

Team Edvald Boasson-Hagen, Mathieu Burgaudeau, Steff Cras, Valentin Ferron, Pierre Latour, Daniel Oss, Peter Sagan, Anthony Turgis

Main man Peter Sagan. Once a mega star, the multiple world champion, Tour stage winner and record points winner is now on his farewell Tour.

UAE Team Emirates

Cycling’s other “super team”, with a wealth of strong men to rival Jumbo-Visma in support of double Tour winner Tadej Pogacar, who had taken on another dimension this year with his wins in the Tour of Flanders, Amstel Gold and FlĂšche Wallonne before his untimely crash in LiĂšge-Bastogne-LiĂšge. Behind “Pog”, Adam Yates has hit form in the CritĂ©rium du DauphinĂ© and won the Tour de Romandie back in May, so should prove a decent understudy. After illness ripped through their ranks in last year’s Tour, arguably contributing to Pogacar’s defeat to Vingegaard, every cough, sniffle and minor headache will be viewed with suspicion.

Team Mikkel Bjerg, Felix Grossschartner, Vejgard Stake Langen, Rafal Majka, Tadej Pogacar, Marc Soler, Matteo Trentin, Adam Yates

Main man Tadej Pogacar – cycling’s biggest winner is targeting a third Tour; wins in his national road and time trial titles suggests the form has returned after a hiatus to nurse a broken wrist.

Invited to their first Tour, the Norwegian squad have a solid reputation for developing new talent and making the most of their resources. They bring a promising line-up fronted by veteran sprinter Kristoff, climbers Johanneson and Traeen, a strong all rounder in Waerenschold, plus the gritty Rasmus Tiller at the helm.

Team Jonas Abrahamsen, Torsten Traeen, SĂžren Waerenschold, Anton Charmig, Jonas Gregaard, Rasmus Tiller, Tobias Halland Johannesen, Alexander Kristoff

Main man Alexander Kristoff – is long in the tooth but could still snag a stage win; in a team of Tour debutants his experience will be crucial.

Changes can be made until Friday 30 June. Team line-ups correct at time of publication

The 2023 road season is almost upon us and teams have revealed their new colours and kit designs that will make up the peloton's colourful palette this season.

In this Cyclingnews guide to 2023 team kits, you'll find all the designs across the men's and women's pelotons in one handy place.

Some teams have opted to stay with the same colours, while some will feature only subtle developments (UAE Team Emirates, Trek-Segafredo and Bahrain Victorious). There is some bold new stuff to marvel at too, as teams change sponsors, including a big revamp at Groupama-FDJ , while Movistar go for a very modern but stylish design.

Have a scroll through the new kits. We will keep this page updated right through to the start of the season.

No change for the long-running French team, keeping this bold design for a third straight year since Citroën came on board as title sponsor. The browns shorts haven't gone anywhere.

The newly-promoted WorldTour team only started using this kit half-way through 2022 when they switched sponsor from Fenix to Deceuninck. As such, it's pretty much the same royal blue number.

Only eagle eyes will notice (or care) that the words 'Caffeine Shampoo' are gone from underneath the Alpecin logo, replaced by 'Hair Booster' within it.

Arkéa-Samsic, who move up to the WorldTour in 2023, stay true to their roots with a solid red jersey. Whereas last year's featured a fade to black at the bottom and a fade to white at the sleeves, this time it's a bolder fuller body of red.

After making a big change in equipment, swapping their 2022 bike sponsor Canyon for Bianchi this year, the team gets the Italian bike maker's notable celeste colour as an accent on the sleeve. If you look closely, there's even some swirling patterning on the arms.

"Just some small changes" was how Astana Qazaqstan billed this 2023 jersey. Beyond some very minor second-sponsor shuffling, this is basically an unchanged kit for the Kazakhstani team.

This isn't much of a departure for Bahrain Victorious , but it does seem like an upgrade. The bright orange and red colour scheme of 2022 is retained but in a wholly bolder arrangement.

For starters, there's more black, with a swathe across the chest and more at the bottom of the jersey. The diamond patterning is also more pronounced and stands out more. There's even some lined golden detailing on the front and rear.

Most importantly, the electric blue trim on the sleeves is still there.

The 2023 pro peloton may seem to be awash with blue, red, and white jerseys but fear not because Bingoal WB are here to save the day. The Belgian ProTeam have been rocking the neon look for quite some time already but seem to have kicked it up a notch this year.

In are jagged edges and plenty of exclamation marks – they'll certainly stand out this spring racing season.

Bora-Hansgrohe topped the Cyclingnews kit ranking in 2022, and they've stuck with the overall look and feel of that design , putting themselves in with a good shout of a repeat success.

Closer inspection, however, reveals this isn't quite the same jersey. There's a significant increase in the amount of red, and there's also more black, but the major theme remains the tones of sea green and the asymmetric pannelling effect.

Spanish ProTeam Burgos-BH have gone for a subtle update to their 2022 kit, retaining the purple and pink look but strengthening the shading of their jersey's pink trim.

Expect to see this kit in action worn by Dani Navarro and Angel Madrazo largely in races in their home country, such as Itzulia Basque Country, the Volta a Catalunya, the Vuelta a Burgos, and the Vuelta a España.

The 2023 Caja Rural-Seguros RGA team kit

Caja Rural-Seguros RGA keep their traditional colours - green and white - but give the darker stripes a geometric pattern. According to the team's press release, the design is "inspired by digitalization. The jersey evokes the pixel, giving life to a uniform that reveals new details the closer we get to it."

The kit is made by Spanish clothing maker Gsport, and riders will be wearing the Aero jersey from their custom range and the Endurance bib shorts.

Designed and produced by Decathlon’s cycling brand Van Rysel, Cofidis' new team kit is a stylish step forward despite sporting the same colours, same sponsors and being made by the same company.

The kit retains the red and white colour blocks which are now iconic to Cofidis, but features a tie-dye pattern within the red block. The red colourway now dominates more of the jersey, stretching up to the shoulders where previously the torso was split at the chest between red and white colour blocks.

The main sponsors emblazoned on the jersey are mostly the same as in 2022, albeit aside from the significant switch from De Rosa to Look as bike sponsor .

The team’s shorts remain black and are virtually indistinguishable from last year's design aside from the wheel sponsor Corima logo now circling the cuff in place of De Rosa.

Newly promoted Italian ProTeam Corratec will be heading to the Giro d'Italia this year and this burgundy number is what they'll be wearing to race around Italy throughout May.

Former Astana and UAE man Valerio Conti is their leader for the new season, while there are rumours that Colombian Grand Tour star Nairo Quintana might be signing on for the ride, too.

The Dutch team are one of a few with matching kit for their men's and women's squads, and it's the same as last year, with the black plus blue stripe that feels similar to old Team Sky outfits. If you're looking for any difference at all, there's the addition of the 'Keep Challenging' motto on the bottom left front panel of the jersey.

In men's and women's pelotons largely dominated this year by blue and red kits, the pink of EF is set to stand out, though the design is a rather subtle one, especially set next to wild special-edition kits the team has worn at the Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, and Tour de France Femmes in recent years.

Rather than cartoon ducks, smiling dragons, or colourful blocks, EF's 2023 kit is simple rather than gaudy. At the front of the jersey, there are two halves of dark pink and light pink, while the sleeves are also filled with contrasting shades of the team's trademark colour.

A black Rapha armband – customary on the company's jerseys – adorns the left sleeve of both jerseys, while team sponsors and suppliers such as EF Education, TIBCO, Wahoo, POC, Cannondale, Nippo and Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) are printed in black on the chest, back and sleeves.

Black bib shorts with white sponsor printing round off the clean look, though no doubt the teams will shake things up when they hit the Grand Tours of May and July.

Aside from a switch in sponsor logos, you'd be hard-pressed to pick the women's EF-TIBCO-SVB kit apart from the men's EF Education-EasyPost kit - with both sharing the same light pink-dark pink half-and-half jerseys.

The women's team will enjoy their second year in the Women's WorldTour and figure to be one of the most-watched teams in the peloton after adding teenage star Zoe Bäckstedt .

Alison Jackson also joins the team from Liv-Xstra, while Veronica Ewers and Krista Doebel-Hickok will be back for more after taking seven of the squad's 13 victories between them in 2022.

Fenix-Deceuninck join their brother-squad Alpecin-Deceuninck in rising to the WorldTour, and they've undergone a similar shift from navy to blue. Formerly known as Planta Pura, the Belgian squad have swapped the flashes of pink for a more sober blue and white look, paired with black shorts.

FDJ-Suez revealed their new kit that keeps with the team's traditional French colours of blue, white and red.

The 2023 jersey is primarily blue but showcases some subtle changes, losing the white accents on the sleeves and instead opting for a continuation of blue down the right sleeve and red accents along the left with a blue cuff.

The blue jersey fades into a deeper blue and then to black at the waist, matching the team's black shorts.

The team's title sponsors, FDJ, SUEZ and Futuroscope, stand out in white across the front and back panels of the jersey.

For 2023, the long-running Italian squad have added to what was already a mouthful of a name. They're now known as Green Project-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè , and it's easy to see why.

Having moved away from their green and orange roots to some questionable purple kits in recent seasons, they're back in green this year with Venice-based energy savings and efficiency company Green Project on board as lead sponsor and another Giro d'Italia invite in the bag.

Who saw this coming? Groupama-FDJ have always been blue and red – and predominantly white. 2014's royal blue number was the only real exception to that rule.

Some wondered if they might go green, given the branding of title sponsor Groupama, but no, they've gone navy.

The royal blue does get a good look-in, with three separate asymmetric panels on the front and rear of the jersey, plus detailing on the sleeve, trim, and collar. And the sponsor names and logos still pop out in white with flashes of red.

In fact, the whole thing is tied together by the vertical stripes of white and red running up the zip line.

Human Powered Health revealed their new kits for the Women's WorldTour team and men's ProTeam for 2023.

The design is an evolution of 2022’s look, the first year under the Human Powered Health brand. The refreshed look is now a rich dark blue and purple hue. The team’s bolt symbol is more significant than ever on the front and back of the jersey, with a subtle geometric pattern.

Stephen Bassett, Makayla MacPherson and Lily Williams were in Minneapolis to test, fit and model the new Pactimo-made jersey and bibs in December.

The team's 'core principles' – movement, fuel, recovery and mindset – are reflected in the kit’s colour scheme. Also new to 2023 is the addition of an angular, path-driven geometric pattern that the team says represents planning and growth toward better living.

The kit is complete with new dark purple bib shorts that seamlessly blend into the jersey.

Breaking cover only days before Christmas, Ineos Grenadiers' new kit is sure to be the team's most exciting stocking filler. While it drew some criticism for cutting a similar aesthetic to Bahrain Victorious' colours, Ineos Grenadiers have their own unique message in mind with the kit.

The British team describe the colours as 'visibly fast' as a symbolic gesture to their ambitions and seems inspired by the fluorescent jersey worn by team staff at the roadside so they can be seen by the riders.

The kit is produced by Belgian brand Bioracer and is available for order from bioracershop.eu , and the team's own website, from December 19.

The Belgian team may have changed their name for 2023, with Circus moving to title sponsorship as the team becomes known as Intermarché-Circus-Wanty , but their overall look hasn't changed too much.

The colour scheme remains the same, but the neon yellow and blue sleeves are gone. Instead, the colours are splashed around the rest of the jersey while the sleeves change to white.

Israel-Premier Tech are dropping to ProTeam level in 2023 but have come up with a daring new jersey designed to make them 'stand out' in whichever races they do get invited to.

Inspired by the psychedelic special they wore at the 2022 Tour de France – winning two stages in it – they have blended blues, pinks, and oranges, alongside a splash of white.

The Israel-Premier Tech-Roland squad is technically under separate ownership from the men's team, but they share title sponsors and now pretty much share a kit.

The Swiss outfit, formerly known as Roland Cogeas Edelweiss, will also be decked out in the blue, white, and pink 'abstract' design. The main difference comes in the differing sponsors, with Roland plastered on the front and on each shoulder.

New signing  Letizia Paternoster  and fellow Italian  Matteo Sobrero  showed off the new Jayco-AlUla kit which is produced by Ale’.

The men’s blue tones match the colours of bike sponsor Giant, with a white upper body and shoulder area. The Jayco logo stands out in sky blue across the chest, with AlUla lower down, on the side panels and the left leg. Jayco fills the right leg of the shorts, with other sponsors on the collar and sleeves.

The women’s design is similar but with a darker blue, while incorporating the key colours of the bike sponsor Liv, through hints of aubergine on the shorts, neck and sleeves.

At a glance, Jumbo-Visma ’s 2023 kit is a carbon copy of last season’s outfit. Who could blame them – after a startling success of a season, who do they need to impress? Up close there are a few small differences, though.

Principal among the changes are a few sponsor updates, with new brands now finding themselves affixed on the jersey chest. The most notable is Jumbo-Visma’s new sponsor BetCity, the largest betting company in the Netherlands, which has already attracted controversy and led to reassurances from Jumbo-Visma.

For the really keen eye, there is a new design tweak in the slender blue line that cuts across the black and yellow blocks of colour on the jersey. It’s a throwback to the team’s heritage and the colours worn under its previous iterations – stretching from the blue of Blanco to the green of Belkin to the white and yellow of the team’s Jumbo years.

The Liv Racing team are bringing in a new title sponsor, but they're keeping their unique jersey. In fact, their announcement of new sponsorship came with the assurance that the kit would be staying.

So we still have the aubergine purple with the bold flower design on the right chest, and other darker flourishes lower down. There's obviously a new logo, but there's also slightly more bright purple on this one.

Saying goodbye to the WorldTour after a hard-fought battle with relegation , this is the shape of Lotto-Dstny in 2023, bedecked with their new sponsor’s branding.

The sponsor brings with it a blue colourway across the trunk of the jersey, matching the blue trimmings and helmet colour the team sported in 2022. The jersey brings with it an extended partnership with clothing manufacturer Vermarc Sport, which will now continue for three more years.

Having already opted out of the Giro , we’ll perhaps be seeing less of Lotto-Dstny in 2023 - but the iconic red of the Lotto branding will certainly help the team stand out.

The men's and women's Movistar teams stay with their dark blue colours and wavy Movistar M logo but the jersey has a more futuristic look, with a return to a white Movistar logo and without the sky blue horizontal lines of 2022.

The 2023 racing kit is made by Spanish brand Gobik, with the Canyon bikes also coloured different shades of blue.

World champion Annemiek Van Vleuten has opted for a classic look with her rainbow jersey, with national champions Abner González, Vinicius Rangel Costa, Liane Lippert and Jelena Erić also have white jerseys with their nations colours on the chest.

New ProTeam Q36.5 , headed up by former Qhubeka-NextHash boss Doug Ryder, is based in Switzerland and consists of 24 riders, including Gianluca Brambilla, Jack Bauer, Damien Howson, and Matteo Moschetti.

The squad will be racing in an understated grey look for their debut season, with a light grey jersey punctuated by splotches of darker grey and black shorts. As well as title sponsor Q36.5, other brands on board and filling up the kit include Breitling, UBS, Scott, and Sram.

SD Worx , perennially among the strongest squads in the women's peloton, have gone for evolution rather than revolution in their new kit design after the major overhauls of the past two seasons.

Following on from the purple and red look of the sponsor's first season with the former Boels Dolmans squad in 2020, they went brighter last year. Now they have gone even bolder, with a "neon touch" leaving their riders set to look even brighter in the peloton this year.

It's a similar look to the 2022 kit, with sponsors and suppliers SD Worx, Specialized and Dolmans all present across the front of the jersey, though a stronger purple chest and splashes of bright yellow down the sides make it an even more colourful design.

Yuzzu and SD Worx logos adorn the shoulders, while new financial partner Finvision is present on the ends of the sleeves.

Dark blue shorts filled in with the logos of Specialized, Sram, SD Worx, and Dolmans complete the look.

The Belgian team changes sponsors for 2023, becoming Soudal-QuickStep , nicking one from rivals Lotto Soudal, no less. As such, this new jersey has a very strange, 'merger' feel to it, with Soudal not only bringing their name but also their brand's thick red block of colour.

Elsewhere, the traditional blue of Patrick Lefevere's team is retained but this time in a more dynamic multi-tone pattern. There's another liberal splash of white, this time moving from just the sleeves onto the whole middle section.

This jersey has already been out of the bag for several months, initially unveiled when the team announced the new sponsorship in the summer. It was formally revealed on December 16, with only the most minor of changes - different logos for Safety Jogger on the shoulders and Napoleon on the sleeves.

Remco Evenepoel will wear a Soudal-QuickStep rainbow jersey as the world champion, until the 2023 Worlds in August, while Fabio Jakobsen wears the gold stars of European champion. Julian Alaphilippe wears the standard-issue team kit.

TotalEnergies at the Vuelta a San Juan

Team TotalEnergies made very few changes to their kit relative to 2022, keeping the colourful logo, white background and blue-to-yellow fade at the hem. Peter Sagan's Slovakian champion's jersey is also practically identical to last year's.

Perhaps one of the more functional kits, though it still manages to tick the aesthetic boxes.

Another team with subtle tweaks for 2023, Trek-Segafredo continue the overall aesthetic of the past two years, but with a new twist.

The fronts of the jerseys are still crisp white with a thick sash across the chest - still red in the case of the men but now navy for the women. The sleeves have gone from white, to red for the men and light blue (the colour of the sash in 2022) for the women .

However, it's the rear that features the real twist. "Business in front, party in back," is how the team have billed it. They've also spoken of going from "mild to wild".

The result is a pattern made up of equal signs and checkerboards. Up close, it's headache-inducing but it's intended to stand out from afar, making it easy to spot the team's riders on TV from the helicopter shots.

Like Q36.5, Tudor Pro Cycling is another Swiss team moving on up to the ProTeam ranks.

The team has signed up Sebastien Reichenbach, Tom Bohli, Alexander Kamp and Simon Pellaud for 2023 and their four stars – along with the rest of their 20-rider squad – will turn out in this low-key black and white Assos number.

Evolution, not revolution for UAE Team ADQ , who take their 2022 colour palette, move it around, and make it bolder for 2023.

The overall idea is the same but the blue has been moved over to the right upper, while the white is gone. All the shades are more vivid than the hazy, washed-out hues of 2022, with added popp from the white patterning on the sleeves.

UAE Team Emirates have switched up their kit suppliers for 2023, moving from Gobik to Italian brand Pissei.

However, there are no major changes here. The sleeves are now jet black, rather than flared with red like the last two years. But that's about it. It's still mainly white with a splash of red in the middle.

The biggest changes at UAE Team Emirates are with their 2023 Colnago bikes, which will be equipped with Shimano components, Enve wheels and Continental tyres.

Another team with men's and women's squads and matching kits. The women are in the Women's WorldTour in, while the men are operating at ProTeam level but with an invite to the Tour de France.

The kit is unchanged from 2022, with the red and yellow that is becoming a striking identity for the Scandinavian team.

"We need to reduce our consumption. Keeping the design allows us to cut our overall clothing order for 2023," said the team. "Not to mention our fans which will continue to recognize us from day one in the upcoming season."

PREVIEW | LiĂšge-Bastogne-LiĂšge 2024 - Tadej Pogacar battles Mathieu van der Poel, but brutal weather may throw in a surprise

"I feel like I've been chasing all day" - Mathieu van der Poel snatches Liege-Bastogne-Liege podium at the very last

La Doyenne: EF Pro Cycling is ready to race the hardest monument

The Ardennes classics culminate Sunday at LiĂšge-Bastogne-LiĂšge

April 19, 2024

Sunday’s Liùge-Bastogne-Liùge promises to be one of the hardest races of the year

It always is. Liùge-Bastogne-Liùge is the doyenne of the monuments—the oldest of cycling’s great classics.

Kim Cadzow , Clara Emond , Veronica Ewers , Clara Koppenburg , Lizzie Stannard , and Magdeleine Vallieres will race for EF Education-Cannondale.

Richard Carapaz , Ben Healy , Mikkel Honoré , Archie Ryan , James Shaw , Harry Sweeny , and Rigoberto Urån will ride for EF Education-EasyPost.

The LiĂšge-Bastogne-LiĂšge course is legendary. First raced in 1892, it runs between LiĂšge, a post-industrial city on the banks of the Meuse, and Bastogne, a gray-slate town nestled deep in the Ardennes, passing over the low forested mountains that run up and down the province of Wallonie, Belgium. The men race 254.5 kilometers, starting and finishing in LiĂšge, while the women go straight to the hardest climbs on the 152.9-km run from Bastogne to LiĂšge. The grand finale includes famous hills such as the CĂŽte de Wanne, CĂŽte de Stockeu, Col du Rosier, CĂŽte de la Redoute, CĂŽte des Forges, and CĂŽte de la Roche-aux-Faucons. Often terribly steep, these roads wind through woods on gritty asphalt, reaching high plateaus above the treeline. On Sunday, a freezing wind will be howling across the fields and meadows. Racing in the Ardennes is not for the faint-hearted.

“Liùge-Bastogne-Liùge is a real monument for the sport,” says Olympic champion Richard Carapaz. “It is so difficult due to the length and the amount of climbing. The best teams come with their best riders and that’s what makes it so beautiful.”

That is what Kim Cadzow loves about it.

“Racing in the Ardennes is some of the hardest racing that there is,” she says. “There is a lot of climbing. There are a lot of punchy riders and that just makes it so challenging to race here. You never really know what is going to happen at the bottom of any of the climbs and even on the flats, it is this constant race, this constant battle for position. The weather can just make it crazy.”

Ben Healy thrives in the Ardennes. Last year, the Irish champion finished fourth at LiĂšge-Bastogne-LiĂšge after lighting up the finale with a number of huge attacks.

“It is hard, long, and normally cold, so only for the tough riders in the peloton,” Ben says.

Clara Emond made her WorldTour debut at LiĂšge-Bastogne-LiĂšge last year and was shocked by how rough it was in the bunch. She has since learned how to use her elbows in the pack and gained a lot of confidence. Clara is excited to show what she can do on the climbs at LiĂšge-Bastogne-LiĂšge.

“It is going to be a really hard race,” Clara says. “And if the weather is like it was at Flùche Wallonne, it is going to be even harder. The climbs are super short but there are so many of them that it is going to be a really reduced peloton really fast. It is going to be a super selective race. The run-ins to the climbs are like bunch sprints and then we have to go up them. I feel fit. I think I am going to be good. If we race well as a team and we are able to really be in the race and be actors in it and be aggressive and make different moves, we will be happy.”

After his strong ride at LiĂšge-Bastogne-LiĂšge last year, Ben Healy is ready to race for the top step on the podium.

“Our ambition is to win the race, as simple as that,” Ben says.

Richie Carapaz is game. He went on the attack at FlĂšche-Wallonne on Wednesday and wants to do the same at LiĂšge-Bastogne-LiĂšge.

“We are a very good team,” he says. “Riders like Rigo and Harry and James bring a lot of experience. Ben feels very good. It’s going to be a very hard race. Our ambition is to win!”

That’s the spirit. Go EF Pro Cycling!

Kim came to cycling via triathlon, a sport she took up as a teenager. When she grew tired of constant running injuries, she made the switch to cycling and has loved every minute of it. She excels both in time trialing and on long climbs. Kim came to Europe to race for the first time in 2022 as the New Zealand U23 time trial national champion and placed fifth that season in the Mont Ventoux DĂ©nivelĂ© Challenge. Last year she got her first taste of stage racing and finished third on the queen stage at the Tour of Scandinavia. With climbing and time trialing, Kim appreciates how they are straightforward disciplines. Still new to the sport, racing a TT or a climb means she doesn’t have to worry too much about tactics and can focus on pedaling and pushing herself to her limits, something she loves to do. In 2024, Kim’s goal is to continue growing as a rider through racing and learning from her teammates.

Clara Emond

Lawyer, cyclist – is there anything Clara can’t do? She had passed the bar exam and was just starting her career as a lawyer when she began to race bikes. This was during the pandemic so she was working remotely which she didn’t enjoy at all. When a continental team based in Canada invited Clara to race with them for the 2022 season, she didn’t hesitate. She turned pro the following year. But Clara isn’t finished with academia yet. She began a master’s degree in sports law at the same time she started racing. For Clara, both school and cycling offer an outlet from each other and she finds it energizing to have different areas of focus in her life. Last year, in Clara’s first race as a pro at the Vuelta Extremadura FĂ©minas, she won the queen of the mountains jersey, finished second on the queen stage, and was second on the overall podium. She also raced the Tour de France Femmes and wrapped up the year with a podium at La PĂ©rigord Ladies. The 2024 season will be her second as a professional racer and though she’s still learning the ins and outs of the sport, Clara’s innate climbing talent is undeniable. She has already grown so much in her nascent cycling career, but she is motivated to keep learning and improving.

Veronica Ewers

Veronica Ewers burst onto the American cycling scene in the summer of 2021 when she placed third in the U.S. road race national championship. That result earned her a guest spot racing in Europe that fall which in turn led to her first pro contract. In just two professional seasons, Veronica has won the Navarra Elite Classics as well as a stage at the Festival Elsy Jacobs, and podiumed at the Giro dell’Emilia, Emakumeen Nafarroako, and Tre Valli Varesine Women. In 2022, she had a pair of top ten stage finishes at the Tour de France Femmes where she finished ninth on the general classification. Last season she finished in the top five on stages at the Giro d’Italia Women three times and ultimately came in fourth overall. About to embark on her third season, Veronica loves the longer mountain climbs. She is proud of how far she has come but is determined to keep pushing herself and sees her development as an on-going process. Veronica’s competitive streak extends beyond bike racing. She often brings Bananagrams, a fast-paced vocabulary game, to races and camps and will play against any teammate or staff member foolish enough to accept her challenge. She is an avid cook and enjoys experimenting with new recipes and flavors.

Clara Koppenburg

Clara Koppenburg brings strength, experience, and her ever curious, energetic mind to EF Education-Cannondale. The 28-year-old German has been a pro for a decade and still loves to learn about her sport. In 2014, she was offered her first professional contract just a few months after she had ridden her first races. Her athletic background helped. When she was a kid, Clara rode horses, played tennis and basketball, and skied, both alpine and cross-country. A talented runner, who raced all the distance events on the track, she studied sports science, which she loved, because she could earn half her credits by sailing or rowing or doing other outdoor activities with her friends from class. Although her dad worked for a professional cycling team, Clara never considered riding bikes herself. Then, she went on a trip with him to a race in Colorado and realized that cycling was a lot more intense than the off-road jaunts to cafĂ©s and ice cream shops that she’d done with him. Inspired, she decided to start training and was soon off to the races. She just loved pushing herself to her limits. She has since won the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana - Vuelta Comunitat and finished second at the Tour Cycliste FĂ©minin International de l’ArdĂšche. In 2023, she was second at the ReVolta. Clara is a talented climber, who wants to focus on stage racing for the coming seasons. She lives in her beloved Black Forest, just outside of Basel, and enjoys spending time on the wooded climbs that she knows so well, spending evenings swimming down the Rhine with friends all the way to Basel’s city center, and trying out some difficult new recipes in the kitchen. She is already famous for her vegan banana bread, which is one of her favorite pre-ride snacks.

Lizzie Stannard

Lizzie Stannard is forever on the move. Lizzie was born in Sydney, Australia, but grew up in New Zealand, where her mom, a civil engineer, and her dad, a professor of human performance, moved to and opened a cafĂ© when she was a child. From the start, sports have been a constant in Lizzie’s life. Her parents had met cycling in Australia and always encouraged her and her brothers to go play outdoors. That often meant ripping around on bikes. Lizzie had a hard time choosing just one sport however. In high school, she took up triathlon and was soon racing world cups. Training to be world-class in three sports while studying political science at university got to be too much. Lizzie decided to focus on cycling, because it was the most fun. She and a friend went on a massive road trip to North America and raced everywhere they could. After that trip, Lizzie was hooked. When she got home, she passed up opportunities to pursue careers in academia and business and moved to Melbourne to race with a small Australian team. She did well there and was soon off to Europe, first to Italy and then to Girona, to try to make it in the big leagues. Coming to Girona is one of the best decisions Lizzie has ever made. In the Catalan cycling mecca, she has made great friends. She loves riding with them through the hills and mountains near the city. All that riding has shown in her performances. In 2022, Lizzie won the Euganissima Flandres and finished seventh overall at the Giro Toscana Internazionale Femminile. In 2023, she finished second on a stage at the Vuelta Andalucia Ruta del Sol and tenth overall at the ReVolta, while riding the second most race days of any rider in the women’s peloton. Lizzie is determined to keep getting faster and keep learning. If she weren’t a racer, she would probably be doing a PhD. For now, she will stick to reading every book she can and being a student of her sport.

Magdeleine Vallieres

Magdeleine was about eight-years-old when she learned to ride a bike without training wheels. That Christmas, she got a new bike and the following summer her dad took her on a nine-day, 1,000 kilometer bikepacking trip. She credits her dad – and that trip – with creating her passion for cycling that has guided her life ever since. Growing up in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Magdeleine rode with her local club. She raced mountain bikes, cyclocross, and road bikes as a teenager. She also learned how to track stand and to this day cannot resist the urge to track stand when she waits at red lights. As much as she loved racing in Quebec, Magdeleine soon realized that if she wanted to continue to compete and grow as a rider, she needed to go to Europe. She earned a spot with the UCI’s World Cycling Center program where she spent two seasons soaking up every opportunity she encountered. At just 22-years-old, Magdeleine has already raced big stage races like the Vuelta a España Femenina, the Giro d’Italia Women, and the Tour de France Femmes, and one-day races like Strade Biance and Amstel Gold. She is still learning where her strengths lie but it’s clear that her enthusiasm for cycling will help her go far.

Richard Carapaz

Richard Carapaz races with grit and without fear. The Olympic champion and Giro d’Italia winner hails from the high mountains of Ecuador, where he started racing as a 16-year-old kid for his local club. He returns there each winter to help the next generation of children from his hometown of Playa Alta get started in the sport they dream of conquering like him.

Richard has stood on the podium of all three grand tours and won 19 professional races. When Richie wins, he wins with style. He is never afraid to attack and can sense exactly the right moment to go. When he goes—on Richie's day, the best riders in the world can’t hold his wheel.

That is how he won his Olympic gold medal and his Giro d’Italia. That is how he wants to race for us.

After a difficult 2023 season, Richie is ready to attack 2024. Quiet, determined, he is more motivated than ever.

We can’t wait to watch him race in pink.

Ben Healy is one of the best young bike racers of his generation. Born and raised near Birmingham, the 23-year-old is proud of his Irish roots and honored to wear the Bratach na hÉireann colors as the Irish road race national champion.

The 2023 season was Ben’s breakout year. After winning the GP Industria & Artigianato and a stage at Coppi e Bartali , he finished second at Brabantse Pijl and second at the Amstel Gold Race . And then he went and won a stage at the Giro d'Italia with a 50-km solo .

Results like that are a testament to his tenacity.

Ben blazed his own way to the pro ranks. He was riding at his local track by the time he was five years old. Growing up, he was there every Sunday morning to train and race. But his first love was mountain biking. That meant hucking himself off the established track for a young bike racer in Britain. Ben dropped out of the academy and decided to go it alone.

Racing mountain bikes and road bikes on smaller teams, he soon had stage wins at the Giro Ciclistico d’Italia and the Ronde de l’Isard to his name, as well as Irish road and time trial championship titles. In 2019, Ben became the youngest ever winner of a stage at the Tour de l’Avenir.

And now, he has shown that he can go toe-to-toe with the best bike racers in the world in the sport’s greatest races.

Ben loves getting in breakaways and surprising his rivals with his daring attacks. He is as aero as anyone in the peloton and is always looking for the latest edge.

Last to go will be his flowing black locks. Away from the races, Ben likes big cities and hanging out with his friends from art school.

He is an explosive climber, who wants to find out what he can do over the course of a grand tour. So does the rest of the world. The only thing that’s for certain is that Ben Healy is going to keep racing his own way.

Mikkel Honoré

Mikkel HonorĂ© loves to light up races in EF Education-EasyPost pink. The Dane is a very versatile rider. He has the horsepower and skill to shepherd our GC captains through a racing peloton during the hardest grand tour stages. A great climber with a strong finishing kick, who can hold his own on the cobbles, Mikkel has sprinted to stage victories at the Tour of the Basque Country and Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali—two of the hilliest stage races on the calendar. He is consistently at the front of the biggest races and always ready to do his turn for his teammates. We count on Mikkel to be there for us at crucial moments in grand tours and attack the finales of the great one-day races. He’ll go for more victories himself.

Mikkel lives in Switzerland, near the shores of Lake Como. He loves to travel and always has a book with him on the bus. Reading takes him away from the bubble of racing and training. He enjoys philosophy and novels and will always read up on the places where we race to better understand the people who live in the countryside that we pass through.

Mikkel is a great basketball fan. He and his wife will go watch a game together whenever they get the chance.

Archie Ryan

Archie Ryan is one of the most exciting young climbers in the pro peloton. The 22-year-old Irishman has already beaten WorldTour competition uphill, when he won a mountain stage at the Tour of Slovakia. Last season, Archie won the Coppa Citta' Di San Daniele and a stage of the Tour de l’Avenir and earned second places at the U23 version of Il Lombardia and the Eurode Omloop. An explosive finisher, Archie loves to put on a show. In his rookie year, he is going to try to learn all that he can, but never count him out if a race finishes uphill. Every time the peloton hits a climb, Archie Ryan wants to be the life of the party. At the moment, he lives in Girona, where enjoys the sunny Catalan weather, smooth roads, and a great group of training buddies. But, for Archie, Ireland will always be home. His favorite roads run through hills around Wicklow, on the windblown coast by the Irish sea. That’s where he first learned to ride and still returns to ride whenever he can and where the whole cycling community will toast Archie Ryan when he wins.

James loves the places that his bike has taken him, the people he has met because of cycling, and the life lessons he’s learned through the sport. But what does he love most about cycling? Racing.

While James has achieved strong results as a GC rider, especially in 2021 at the Tour of Slovenia and the Tour of Norway, his favorite races are the Ardennes Classics. He is also a keen student of cycling history and finds pride and motivation in thinking about the riders who have come before him. James finished his first grand tour at the 2022 Vuelta and is excited for more.

Through the year, he lives in England’s Peak District. When he is home, James resets by taking his dogs for long walks on the moors and riding with old clubmates. His racing and training schedule is very busy, but whenever he has time, James hitches a trailer to his bike and goes bike packing.

Harry Sweeny

Harry Sweeny is excited to broaden his horizons with EF Education-EasyPost. The 25-year-old Australian joins our team in 2024. It will be his fourth season as a pro. Harry is still discovering his limits as a racer. As a U23, he won Il Piccolo Lombardia and has since ridden the Tour de France, where, as a rookie, he finished third on a stage and rode onto the Champs-ÉlysĂ©es in the break, as jets trailed red, white, and blue streaks into the sky overhead. He has raced Paris-Roubaix in the wet and LiĂšge-Bastogne-LiĂšge alongside his friend, the former winner and local legend, Philippe Gilbert. This year, he finished fourth on GC at the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon. Harry believes that his best is yet to come. He came to cycling late. As a kid growing up in Brisbane, where his family moved when he was a child, he played soccer and rugby and did gymnastics and swam. He took up triathlon as a schoolboy, but focused on cycling when he was a junior and was recovering from a running injury. He started out racing local crits. His athleticism soon shone and he was picked to race the world championships in Richmond, Virginia for the Australian national team. He moved to Europe to race, first for a small junior team in Belgium, and then for two years with the Australian Institute of Sport squad, which was then based in Italy, before moving back to Belgium for his final year as an U23. Those years opened up new worlds for Harry. EF Education-EasyPost’s open-minded international character is a big draw for him. On the teams he has raced for in the past, he has often been one of the few foreigners. Our team is made up of riders and staff from dozens of nationalities. Most of them know what it is like to build a life far from home and can help with all of the little difficulties that come with that. Our multicultural make up helps us to expand our outlook and think beyond traditional ways of doing things too. Harry is a lot more than a bike racer. He is a keen cook and he loves to go camping and hiking with his girlfriend, an environmental scientist, near their adopted home in Andorra. In the winters, he loves to ski. And he is a YouTuber. Watch out for Harry on RaceTV. He is going to bring an exciting perspective to our team this year.

Rigoberto UrĂĄn

There is now a Colombian TV show about Rigoberto Urán’s life. It is about more than Olympic medals and grand tour podiums, fashion shoots, and appearances in the celebrity pages of newspapers.

Rigoberto’s dad was killed by a paramilitary group three months after he introduced Rigo to cycling. Rigo was 14. All of a sudden, he had to work to support his mom and his sister. He took over his dad’s job, selling lottery tickets to support his family, while going to school and trying to race. He still won a lot.

At 16, it was too much. Rigo told his cycling team that he would either have to turn pro or quit and go back to selling lottery tickets. Technically, he was too young to become a professional. To get around that fact, the team offered his mother the contract. Three years later, Rigo traveled to Europe for the first time to race for a small Italian team.

He has never looked back. An Olympic silver medal and podium finishes at the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France are highlights from his illustrious career. Rigo is still a contender. In 2022, he won stage 17 of the Vuelta , completing his trifecta of stage wins in each of the grand tours, and was a force in the autumn classics.

Rigo continues to inspire his teammates and a whole generation of cyclists with his laid-back, fun-loving approach to the sport.

The Fastest Men and Women of the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, and Vuelta a España

Not all sprinters are created equal. So, let’s delve into the tactical genius and prowess of the peloton’s best mad men and women.

Sprinters with something to prove

Women’s top sprinters.

But what about the green and purple jerseys , those awarded to the leaders and winners of the points classifications, often, though not always, noted sprinters?

These are men and women capable of making unfathomable watts, often after four, five, and sometimes six-plus hours of racing, who are held at bay all day, only to unleash their greatest skills for barely a few hundred meters. They’re often the ones who give us the biggest thrills and the narrowest victories (or defeats).

While we focus on the speed and raw power of sprinters, one thing that’s often overlooked is how well they race; how the best sprinters are often the most patient riders, waiting until the perfect moment to launch their attacks. Theirs is often a game of cat-and-mouse, a strategic battle as much as a power-based one. Given the blazing speed at which these riders can sprint, it’s easy to forget that they’re some of the savviest riders in the peloton.

So, who are they? Let’s take a deeper look at the riders going for those green jerseys and points competitions at the Giro d’Italia , Tour de France , and Vuelta a España this summer.

Men’s Top Sprinters

Jasper philipsen – alpecin-deceuninck.

110th tour de france 2023 stage 11

The young Belgian, once derided as “Jasper the Disaster,” is the best sprinter in the world right now. Possessing the perfect combination of strength, racing know-how, and the patience required to win a bunch sprint, he has to be the favorite heading into any stage suited to sprinters. After a second-place finish at Roubaix , the reigning Tour de France green jersey will head into this year’s Grande Boucle as the heavy favorite to repeat.

Mads Pedersen – Lidl-Trek

topshot correction cycling bel wevelgem in flanders fields men

Unlike most others on this list, Mads Pedersen is hardly a pure sprinter. Rather, the one-day specialist has shown that he’s most at home when launching attacks from a long way out. In fact, just a few weeks ago, he did something most people didn’t think was possible when he stayed with Mathieu van der Poel for some fifty kilometers in Ghent-Wevelgem , only to outsprint the Dutch superstar in the closing meters. There isn’t a team in the men’s peloton looking quite as strong as Lidl-Trek is right now, so expect Mads to compete for at least a few bunch sprint wins in his scheduled Tour and Vuelta appearances.

Tim Merlier – Soudal-Quick-Step

6th uae tour 2024 stage 1

By the metric of the modern peloton, Tim Merlier is getting a bit long in the tooth. The 31-year-old from Flanders only has two Grand Tour stage wins to his name: one in the Giro and one in the Tour . But, as most of Merlier’s early career was focused on cyclocross racing, he very well could just be coming into his prime. In the last three seasons, Merlier has won the Belgian National Road Race and Brugge-De Panne, and, from 2022 to this year, three-peated in Nokere Koerse. Maybe, like a great sprinter does, he’s waiting until the perfect moment to launch.

Mark Cavendish – Astana Qazaqstan

106th giro d'italia 2023 stage 21

In 2024, Cav is sitting on the precipice between these two categories. The Manx Missile was coaxed out of retirement not once but twice with the promise of nabbing Eddy Merckx’s longstanding record of 34 Tour de France stage wins. And while his early-season returns have been anything but stunning, we’re talking about the greatest sprinter of all time here. And so, for that very reason, we have to consider Cav, a two-time Tour de France green jersey winner, in the upper echelon here.

Dylan Groenewegen – Jayco AlUla

40th classica comunitat valenciana 1969 gran premi valegravencia 2024

Groenewegen has five Tour de France stage wins. But four of them came before 2020 and one in 2022. Much of that drought likely has to do with the nine-month ban he received from the UCI after it was determined he caused the crash that put Fabio Jakobsen in an induced coma for two days. Still, Groenewegen has shown form early this season with a ninth-place finish in Ghent-Wevelgem and a few strong stages in Paris-Nice and the UAE Tour.

Kaden Groves – Alpecin-Deceuninck

78th tour of spain 2023 stage 4

Groves, the four-time Vuelta a España stage winner and reigning green jersey champion of that race, will likely contest again for several of that race’s sprint stages. Groves has shown a predilection for hilly stages that tend to thin the herd over the course of the day, stages that are becoming increasingly common in the modern Grand Tour.

Arnaud DĂ©mare – ArkĂ©a–B&B Hotels

26th bemer cyclassics hamburg 2023

Though he didn’t get any last year, Arnaud DĂ©mare has won ten Grand Tour stages: eight in the Giro and two in the Tour . He’s also a two-time points champion in the Giro. And though his spring campaign has been nothing to write home about, he’s an expert at positioning when the bunch really starts charging. Given as much, he should have more than a few opportunities to outsprint the bunch in this summer’s Tour.

Fabio Jakobsen – dsm firmenich PostNL

78th danilith nokere koerse 2024 men's elite

Like a few others on this list, Jakobsen’s results don’t necessarily match his strength. Easily one of the fastest sprinters in the peloton, Jakobsen will definitely find his way to the bunch in this year’s Giro and Tour, where he’ll try to add to his palmarùs, which already counts five Vuelta stage wins. Of course, he hasn’t gotten one of those since 2021, so you either think he’s washed or he’s due.

Dark Horses

Sam Bennett (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) - Outside of Mark Cavendish, Sam Bennett is the most decorated racer on this list. His palmarùs includes five stage wins at the Vuelta , three at the Giro , and two at the Tour . He was also the Tour’s 2020 green jersey. And though his last two seasons have been hardly spectacular, it’s easy to predict that Sam Bennett could be in the mix for stage wins, especially after he was left off AG2R’s Tour roster last year.

Caleb Ewan (Jayco AlUla) - The man who was once a sure-fire bet to take a Grand Tour sprint stage—he’s won ten in his career—has fallen to the bottom of this pack simply because he hasn’t been able to nab a stage win since the 2021 Giro d’Italia . Of course, he’s still one of the strongest sprinters on Earth and always a threat to take a win, which, over the last three years, he’s been ever so close to. Despite his recent cold streak, Ewan is truly one of the riders you can never, ever count out.

Biniam Girmay (IntermarchĂ©-Wanty) - After a historic stage win in the 2022 Giro d’Italia and a third-place finish behind Jasper Phillipsen and Mark Cavendish in stage 7 of last’s Tour de France, the Eritrean rider showed a lot of promise as a Grand Tour sprinter. Now confirmed for the Giro, we hope to see Girmay bring on the heat to the favorites.

Alberto Dainese (Tudor Pro Cycling) - While still early in his professional career, Dainese has already demonstrated his potential as a top-level sprinter and is definitely one to watch. In 2023, the Italian sprinter won two Giro stages and one Vuelta stage.

On the women’s side of the coin, there’s far less separation between the heavy favorites, the maybe-they-could, and the sprinters who might steal a stage here or there. And much of that has to do with the fact that there’s much more parity in general in the women’s WorldTour (which is why we should all be watching a lot more women’s races!). But there is still the cream of the crop and everyone else.

Lotte Kopecky – SD Worx-Protime

5th danilith nokere koerse 2024 women's elite

You could easily argue that Lotte Kopecky is the strongest bike racer in the world, regardless of gender. Her ability to sustain efforts and grind her opponents into dust behind her is matched only by the likes of Mathieu van der Poel . As she heads into this summer as the reigning Tour de France points champion, all eyes will be on the 28-year-old to rack up more stage wins.

Lorena Wiebes – SD Worx-Protime

2nd uae tour 2024 stage 1

It’s no secret that SD Worx is sitting on an embarrassment of riches right now. This is evidenced by the fact that Lotte Kopecky is racing on the same team as Lorena Wiebes , perhaps the strongest pure sprinter in the women’s peloton. The 25-year-old Dutchwoman has won Ronde van Drenthe four years in a row and just added to her palmarùs with a Gent-Wevelgem victory last weekend. In a heads-up sprint, Wiebes is as tough as out there is.

Elisa Balsamo – Lidl-Trek

7th women's classic brugge de panne 2024

With wins at Brugge-De Panne and Trofeo Alfredo Binda and second-place finishes at Paris-Roubaix , Ronde van Drenthe, and Ghent-Wevelgem , the Italian one-day specialist is having a world-class spring campaign. She’s had a bit of success in stage races, nabbing a pair of wins at the 2022 Giro Donne and another pair at 2023’s Setmana Ciclista Valenciana. But at just 26 years old, Balsamo could be on the precipice of a breakout summer.

Charlotte Kool – dsm firmenich PostNL

9th la vuelta femenina 2023 stage 2

At just 24 years old, Charlotte Kool seems to be hitting her prime. She won her first Grand Tour stage in last year’s Vuelta and was fighting for wins in Brugge-De Panne and Ghent-Wevelgem, where she finished second and fourth, respectively. She won the points classification in last year’s UAE Tour and should rack up plenty of points over the course of the summer.

Emma Norsgaard – Movistar

2nd tour de france femmes 2023 stage 6

Though Norsgaard’s spring has been inauspicious at best, she’s always a tough out when it comes to sprints. With a pair of stage wins to her name (a Giro stage in 2021 and a Tour stage in 2023), she knows how to win from the bunch. She just needs to find her way to the front and put herself in a position to compete. If she can get there, there’s no doubt she’s got the legs.

Marianne Vos – Visma-Lease a Bike

9th la vuelta femenina 2023 stage 4

So long as there’s a bike race, and so long as Marianne Vos is in that bike race, it’s just plain stupid to count her out. To list her palmarùs would take all of the space this story has, so just accept the fact that she’s likely to be there at the end, whether the stage calls for a breakaway, a punchy climb, or a bunch sprint. And though she’s one of the women’s peloton’s elder stateswomen at age 36, with recent wins at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Dwars door Vlaanderen , she’s still proving week after week that she can race with—and beat—the best.

Elisa Longo Borghini – Lidl-Trek

2nd paris roubaix 2022 women's elite

Between Mads Pedersen , Elisa Balsamo, and Longo Borghini, Lidl-Trek’s cup runneth over with one-day talent. But to win one-day races, you need to be able to create and sustain attacks, and there are few better in the women’s bunch at that than Longo Borghini. Hardly a pure sprinter, she’ll need to use her well-honed racing acumen if she’s going to take a stage win.

ChloĂ© Dygert – Canyon//SRAM

9th la vuelta femenina 2023 stage 2

Dygert is back. After suffering a training setback late last year, stemming from an injury sustained earlier in 2023, Dygert returned to the peloton with a sixth-place finish in Brugge-De Panne. And while she’s known more for her time-trialing acumen than her pure sprint ability, she can put down and sustain boatloads of power. If she and her teammates can put her in the right position, look for the American star to steal a stage here or there.

Chiara Consonni (UAE Team ADQ) - This is only Consonni’s second year at the WorldTour level, but she’s shown in recent times that she has the legs and the know-how to go elbow-to-elbow with the best of the bunch. Her best result is arguably a third-place finish in the points classification in this year’s UAE Tour. Look for her to steal a stage win or two (or three) as the summer progresses.

Rachele Barbieri (dsm firmenich PostNL) - For all of the success Rachele Barbieri has enjoyed on the track, she’s had little on the road. Her best finishes in major races are a pair of second-place finishes in stages in the Giro and UAE Tour and two fourth-place finishes in Tour stages. However, anyone who can make the kind of power Babieri is capable of making can and should not be counted out. Look for her to snag a sleeper win at some point this year.

Cycling star Evenepoel targets June return from crash ahead of Tour de France and Paris Olympics

  • Copy Link copied

BRUSSELS (AP) — Two weeks after crashing heavily in Spain, two-time world champion Remco Evenepoel said on Friday he’s on track to race again in June ahead of the Tour de France and Paris Olympics.

The Belgian needed surgery after breaking a collar bone and shoulder blade in a crash while descending in the Tour of Basque Country.

Evenepoel will train at high altitude before a planned return to racing at the CritĂ©rium du DauphinĂ© in France from June 2-9 or the week after at the Tour de Suisse, he said in an interview broadcast by his team Soudal–Quick-Step.

He won the worlds time trial last year and the road race in 2022, and should target both Olympic events on the streets of Paris on back-to-back Saturdays — July 27 and Aug. 3. First, he will make his Tour de France debut on June 29.

“It’s going to be something special. Especially the Tour,” Evenepoel said. “It makes it a bit easier to do Tour-Olympics because it’s in the same country, not too far like it was three years ago to go to Tokyo. That was more difficult for a lot of guys.”

Evenepoel raced in both Olympic road events in Japan. He placed ninth in the time trial, more than one minute out of the medals and trailing 2 minutes, 17 seconds behind gold medalist PrimoĆŸ Roglič.

Jonas Hansen Vingegaard - Team Visma - Lease A Bike, the winner of the race, celebrates on the podium with the Trident Trophy after the 59th Tirreno - Adriatico 2024, Stage from San Benedetto del Tronto to San Benedetto del Tronto, Sunday, March 10, 2024 in San Benedetto del Tronto, Tuscany, Italy. Roglič was caught up in Evenepoel’s crash in Spain and also will miss the one-day classic Liùge-Bastogne-Liùge on Sunday. Evenepoel won the past two editions of the storied race.

Evenepoel said the early spring injury gave him time to recover like it was a midseason break. It let him spend the Eid al-Fitr holiday last week with his wife Oumi Rayane and her family.

“That was a very beautiful day,” he said. “It’s better to have the injury now than in a couple of weeks. It’s a bit of luck in my bad luck.”

PERM Tracker

Welcome to our crowdsourced statistics website, dedicated to providing up-to-date processing time information for PERM applications. As fellow immigrants, we understand the uncertainty and stress that comes with the process. Created as a hobby over the weekends by an individual who has a PERM in progress, our website aims to help others navigate the process with more certainty and confidence.

Join our Telegram group (@PermLC) to connect with others, ask your questions, and contribute to our tracker.

Active months completion rate ⓘ How to read the table? It shows the percentage of Approved and Audited perms filed in the months currently under active processing by DOL. At present, DOL is actively handling perm applications submitted in the months of April 2023 and March 2023 . The table also divides a filing month into two halves: the first half (1st-15th) and the second half (16th-END), illustrating the progress of each segment.

Daily progress statistics ⓘ how to read the chart it shows the number of cases that have been approved, audited, or denied in the recent days. you can zoom and pan to focus on dates of your interest. you can hide/show bars by clicking on the corresponding legend. dates in cyan color are weekends or federal holidays; dol does not work on these days.  , number of days for approval in the past 30 days ⓘ how to read the table it shows the processing time of the cases that are approved in the past 30 days. for example, if it is 381 days for 30% percentile, it means that 30% of approved cases in the past 30 days have been pending for 381 days or less. this excludes approval of audited cases.  , priority date wise statistics ⓘ how to read the chart it shows the distribution of cases based on their priority date (the date the perm application was submitted to dol). you can zoom and pan to focus on dates of your interest. you can hide/show bars by clicking on the corresponding legend. dates in cyan color are weekends or federal holidays.  , a demo of our telegram group.
