Rosie Lagasse - Owner & Operator

Rosie worked for Dattco Inc for several years and then in 2005 went to work for Silver Mill Tours as a tour director and within a year became the Operations Manager until the passing of the Owner. At the end of August 2020 several people asked for me to continue the tour company and I said okay Next, Rosie decided to continue the tour company. Then it was time to find a new name. Lilly was my long-haired Chihuahua, and when I was on the road my family would take and spoil and love her to death. On Aug 5th she passed away very unexpectedly. I have a cousin that has dreams and she woke up in the middle of the night saying the name of the tours was to be Lilly’s Tours. This is how I came up with the name. Those that have been with me, know how much she was loved. The name of the tour company is in honor of her.

Moscow rises in rating of world's Best Student Cities

Students point out that the cost of living is not cheap in Moscow, but this is made up for by the low cost of a quality education, and by minimal daily expenses on food.

Students point out that the cost of living is not cheap in Moscow, but this is made up for by the low cost of a quality education, and by minimal daily expenses on food.

Moscow finished 39th in a ranking of the 125 best cities for students in the world, which was published on Feb. 15.

Russia’s capital rose four points compared to last year. The rating, which was launched in 2014, was conducted by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

“The capital of the biggest country in the world is a city of superlatives: the most populous city in Europe, home to the most billionaires, and home to the tallest building in Europe,” the publishers of the rating noted. “Student life just cannot be boring in Moscow.”

Students point out that the cost of living is not cheap in Moscow, but this is made up for by the low cost of a quality education, and by minimal daily expenses on food. Moscow earned its high score thanks to employer interest in the capital's university graduates.

In addition to Moscow, three other Russian cities appeared in the rating: St. Petersburg (78th place); Tomsk (91st place); and Novosibirsk (93rd place). Until now, Moscow was the only Russian city in the top 100.

St. Petersburg surpassed Moscow considerably in terms of accessibility of geographic location. In this category, St. Petersburg finished 7th, while Moscow came in 48th place. The authors of the rating also mention St. Petersburg's beauty, the large number of museums and cultural hotspots, low tuition fees, and relatively affordable housing.

The Top 5 Best Student Cities in 2017 are Montreal, Paris, London, Seoul and Melbourne.

We are about ready to book and I'm splitting hairs here. I've found condos we like (2b/2b, upgraded kitchens) at all 3 places-pricing is within 200 bucks of each other. The one at Silver mill is the farthest from the gondola but it has a washer/dryer in the unit which I'm thinking is a big bonus. We are hoping to only check 3 bags btwn the 4 of us as continental is charging for each bag :( Redhawk seems farther away from the action which seems nice, but not so nice b/c we'd have to walk to the village to get drinks, food etc. Jackpine is the closest and has christy's for rentals, and the condo has 2 kings for beds but no laundry- and it's a vrbo rental which sorta worries me.

I keep looking on the maps and I'm wondering how much further away the silvermill spot really is. It seems like silvermill to jackpine is like a 3 minute walk so perhaps the walk really isn't the issue. My parents are concerned that if we pick a spot further away, we'll end up not going back to the condo for lunch due to the hassle- I'm thinking if we can get our skis off, and walk to the condo in less than 10 minutes we'll have no problems.

How bad is it to find time to do 1 or 2 loads of laundry at the shared laundry spot on the floors? I don't mind popping a load in at lunchtime if we have to.

Anybody do vrbo? The condo has lots of photos posted, which helps...I just don't want to get there and find out my condo that we paid for isn't available or they double booked it or something.

silver mill student travel

If you like the Silvermill unit then book it. Everything in that part of Keystone is close to each other with Red Hawk being the furthest away (not a lot though). It is about a 3 minute walk like you said but a little longer with ski boots on. Silvermill would be close to the restaurants and bars that are there as well.

Really you are talking steps from each other. I'd not worry about the walk at all from RH to the main plaza. 200.00 total, or 200 a night?

As to laundry who knows? I do laundry at our condo , there are 2 machines. Sometimes no problem other times I have to wait.

silver mill student travel

Jackpine and Redhawk tend to be nicer/more upscale then Silvermill. Distance wise to the Gondola, Jackpine is the closest, then Redhawk followed by Silvermill - on the maps Silvermill looks a bit closer then it is, you have to take into account where the ski lockers are. With that said, the distance really isn't significant.

The shared laundry works well (we have a condo in River Run that doesn't have a washer/dryer), never any problems.

VRBO is awesome, sites like it and summitcove.com are great as they let you see the actual condo you'll be renting. If you go via keystone resort it is hard to request a specific building much less a unit.

Home » Prices and Trans-Siberian Tickets » Trans-Siberian Railway Prices

Ticket prices for the Trans-Siberian Railway also depend on the current ruble exchange rate.

Is the Trans-Siberian Railway expensive?

Before starting on your Trans-Siberian Railway adventure you naturally want to know what the entire trip will cost. Although this sounds like a simple question, it is pretty difficult to answer. The Trans-Siberian Railway price of travel depends on the following factors:

  • Which travel class do I want to use? The price for a first class ticket is about three times the price of a 3rd class ticket
  • Am I willing to buy the tickets myself and assume responsibility for the organisation of the trip?
  • How many stopovers do I want to make? The more breaks, the higher the total price.
  • What sort of accommodation do I want? Will it be a luxury hotel or will a hostel dormitory be sufficient?
  • What tours and excursions would I like to go on?
  • What is the current exchange rate for rubles?

Basically, everything from a luxury to a budget holiday is available. If you buy yourself a 3rd Class nonstop ticket at the counter, a few hundred Euros will cover the price. All you will experience is a week on the Trans-Siberian train and will see nothing of the cities on the way. There is, however, any amount of room for upward expansion. Everyone makes different choices about which aspects they are willing to spend money on. I personally prefer to save money on accommodation and railcar class, visit as many cities and do as many trips as possible. To enable better classification of your travel expenses I have contrasted two typical traveler types. In the third column you can calculate the total cost of your own journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that these are only rough estimations and not exact prices.

The all-in costs seem fairly high at first. However, they cover everything and it is quite a long journey taking four weeks. Many people forget to consider that when looking at the list. We should also deduct the running costs for food and leisure at home. I think most visitors to this page will classify themselves somewhere between the two categories, that is around the € 2,000 – € 2,500 range. When comparing these prices with other travel packages, you get the impression that it is hardly worthwhile travelling individually on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that most packages last no more than 14 days and you are herded like cattle through the most beautiful locations.

If you spend less time on the Trans-Siberian Railway you will, of course, pay less. I chose this particular travel length because I prefer not to do things by halves. If you fulfill your dream of travelling on the Trans-Siberian Railway, enjoy it and don’t rush things. But it’s up to you, of course. Try playing around with the form a bit to find the appropriate price for your trip.

Collecting Soviet History

History of the Soviet Union with an emphasis on its state security services and their role in maintaining cohesion throughout the USSR. The Cheka and NKVD gradually evolved into the KGB and MVD. Collectively, these agencies enabled the Soviet structure to remain in place as long as it did, and longer than it might have otherwise.
