Mighty 5 From Salt Lake City
It was the best vaycay ever! So very zen with having to focus in the moment on footing, surroundings, other hikers in the vicinity. Amazing group of people with similar ages and abilities. Steve was a perfect guide. He is definitely doing what he was born to do, and doing it very well. Some of the hotels could have been better (breakfast wise) but that wasn't a big deal (not why I went) as we were not there for very long. Courtyard Marriott in SLC was the worst of the lot but otherwise....awesome!!!! So EXCELLENT
Majestic Alaska (10 Days)
The trip was a once in a lifetime experience with so much packed into just a few days. There are some things that I thought should have been done differently but overall the trip was amazing.

Northern California (8 Days)
It was great. Tough schedule but I liked it.
Nature's Best: Alaska
Our Tour guide, Wayne, was fantastic! He went above and beyond; to make sure we were comfortable on the bus and on the tours! He also got us as close as he could when there were animal sightings! Lane, our driver, was also an excellent driver; and he kept us safe on the narrow and winding Mountain roads! Hats off to these two!
Spectacular Alaska!
Our spectacular Alaska trip was very good. The tour guide, Nick, did a good job of making sure everything went well and that our bus rides were not too long. Meals and included excursions were good. Our bus driver, Tamah, did a great job. We were able to visit some wonderful parts of Alaska in a short time and had fun doing so.
American Parks Trail (Classic, End Denver, 9 Days)
The trip was great! The tour director and the driver both were very knowledgeable.
Enchanting Canyonlands (Classic, 7 Days)
I wanted to say excellent, but there is room for improvement. The website could be better. It required passport information with no option for "Not applicable." As a U.S. Citizen traveling in the U.S., a passport wasn't needed, but I continued to get reminders to complete my profile. Fortunately, I got an email assuring me I didn't need the passport, but I suggest updating your website. The descriptions of several days said "relaxed start," but most days, we had to be up early enough to be showered, dressed, and have our suitcases ready for pickup by 6:30 or 7:00 a.m. As an east-coaster, that was fine for me because of the time difference, but normally, I wouldn't call that relaxed. The sites were stunning, the optional activities were great, although one that I wanted to do got canceled due to a storm and there was no way to reschedule. The lodging was great at each stop and the provided meals were excellent. Some of the suggested "on-your-own" spot for meals were not so good. The change of lodging plans at the Grand Canyon was disappointing because we didn't get to see the sunrise at the Grand Canyon or the stars late the night before. Sedona, The Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Bryce Canyon, and Zion National Park were all fantastic, and we were blessed with great weather for most of the trip. Everyone should see these wonders of God's creation.
- Mountain Hikes
8 Day Grand Teton & Yellowstone Explorer
It was a great tour. Fantastic scenery and Kirk showed us the lot. We never felt rushed. We made short hikes every day to great view points. We were extremely lucky with the weather.
Discover American Canyonlands National Geographic Journeys
Matthew (CEO) was great. As issues/challenges arose (which they inevitably do) Matthew addressed them, and provided options/alternatives, which he presented to the group and the group came to a consensus. A suggestion for Management/Tour Operator, The "meeting" with a Native American who was to talk about his/her Native American culture, should be given "guardrails" and stay within their "Lane". There are those who do not share the presenter's same political viewpoint as the presenter and the presenter should respect that his/her audience may have differing political viewpoint(s) and stay away from brining politics into their presentation. Again Matthew (CEO) was a great ambassador for the Tour Operator and we would definitely take another tour/trip with Matthew!
Alaska Journey National Geographic Journeys
We had a wonderful time. The tour was well planned and well managed. The CEO was excellent ..good driver, good communicator, had good knowledge of the local attractions and made great recommendations for restaurants. The group we were with was also a very pleasant group which made the experience that much more enjoyable. That said, would have loved to see the accommodations updated.. most except the Denali cabins were old and "weathered".
Spectacular Canyons and National Parks (End Denver, 13 Days, Denver Airport And Post Trip Hotel Transfer) (19 destinations)
It was an enjoyable good for thw value tour. The first night accomodation in Circus Circus was very poor. Other accomations were fair to good. The transportation was good. A little more information about geography and history would be helpful and add to the total experience. All breakfasts and some dinners need to be included to make it hassel free.

Excellent trip small group tour, great hotels and guide.
It was an awesome tour. Saw and did so much. I would recommend Trafalgar to tour with. We are booked next year for The Colorful Trails of the SW in September. I want to say our tour director,Tyler Browning, is one of the best guides we have had. He is personable, friendly, caring, very knowledgeable and on top of everything. He is GREAT!

The 15 Best Tour Operators
These are the companies Travel + Leisure readers trust to provide them with travel expertise and memorable experiences.
Note: If you’re looking for our most recent recommendations, check out the 2023 list of our favorite tour operators .
When it comes to an itinerary, Travel + Leisure readers want more than a string of photo opportunities — and the right tour operator makes all the difference in creating a trip of a lifetime versus one that simply checks off a list of sights. This year, our readers were especially drawn to companies that utilize local expertise and experience to thoughtfully design trips that will entertain as well as inspire.
Every year for our World's Best Awards survey , T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Readers rated tour operators and safari outfitters based on their staff and guides, itineraries and destinations, activities, accommodations, food, and overall value.
The top picks were noted for their deep knowledge of destinations and guides who "go the extra mile." One reader who has been traveling for more than five decades said a trip with Classic Journeys (No. 2) was the "very best" they had experienced. Others noted attention to pandemic safety details, while one who went to Norway was charmed by a "wonderful surprise dinner in Bergen out on the water that was fantastic."
Tour operators that seamlessly navigated the logistics of a trip also came out on top. Quasar Expeditions (No. 9) was noted "for really planning out every detail" so that "all you have to do is show up and have a great time." Meanwhile, of TCS World Travel (No. 10), a guest said: "You never lift a finger and just spend your time actually exploring the destination." They even added that they "learned so much" along the way.
Among the five companies on this year's list that weren't on last year's were two women-only tour operators that cater to travelers of all ages. AdventureWomen (No. 14) has multiday tours designed by women from Bhutan to Yellowstone National Park, while Explorer Chick (No. 15) has everything from day trips — like glassblowing in Baltimore and cave rappelling in St. Louis — to full itineraries in Machu Picchu and the Galápagos. One reader said her Everest Base Camp trip with AdventureWomen was filled with "like-minded women" who "bonded so well," while another said she felt it was a "safe tour group for women."
No matter which tour they chose, readers were most taken by the people they met along the way, as one said of Trek Travel (No. 13): "By the end of the trip, a group of strangers felt like longtime friends." Find out which other companies round out the list of the best tour operators below.
1. DuVine Cycling + Adventure Co.
A tour with DuVine goes far beyond just riding a bike — it's a way to really see the character of a destination. Case in point: even those who say they're not necessarily cycling fans have been converted. That's part of what helped the tour operator — which runs trips in Europe, the U.S., Latin America, and Africa — skyrocket from No. 14 last year to this year's top spot. Its "top-notch biking equipment" and "challenging but doable itineraries" didn't hurt either. One reader was especially taken by a guide picking figs off of a local tree in Puglia for an extra energy boost during a tough climb, as well as another guide singing to the group after dinner. As another reader put it simply: "They exceed your expectations."

The Tully Difference
Usa - private travel.
The home of the brave is a never-ending river of exploration from coast to coast, a constant and multifaceted melting pot, always on the boil to create, innovate, dazzle and delight. There are thousands of stories to listen to in the United States of America – of people and places, past, and future – and a myriad of ways to revel in them. Through its iconic landmarks, offbeat treasures, vast natural beauty, cultural eminence, and historic notability, the U.S.A. continues to crash through life at top speed. Go along for the ride!
Big sky country takes over with the wide-open roads of Texas, the mesmerizingly beautiful deserts of New Mexico and Arizona, and up into the mountains of Colorado and Utah
Visitors can never get enough of the United States of America and its continuous cascade of adventure: Repeat visits are very much required. As such, Americans themselves are big on seeking out the new and exciting pieces of the vast puzzle they haven’t yet visited. Where haven’t you been? The historic east coast, the birthplace of the nation, brims with significant cultural centers to get to know and love – Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington – their historic and traditional traits just as celebrated as their unvarnished and vociferous side. A sweep across the south delivers Florida’s beaches and a cavalcade of amusements, Nashville’s honky-tonks, New Orleans’s Mardi Gras, Dollywood, and Graceland. Moving west, big sky country takes over with the wide-open roads of Texas, the mesmerizingly beautiful deserts of New Mexico and Arizona, and up into the mountains of Colorado and Utah, where outdoor diversion is the main attraction on the rolling hills year-round. California is the country’s most-visited state, home to Hollywood’s lavish luxury, the manicured boulevards of Palm Springs, the uniqueness of San Francisco, and the wine regions north of that. If you have the will, nip over to Las Vegas for a nighttime stroll along its famous Strip.

How to find a travel agency
Accreditation.
Travel agencies aren't required to obtain licensing or certification, though recognized organizations accredit and certify members. Travelers can confirm a travel agency's accreditation by looking for the accrediting body's logo on a travel agency's website or brochure.
- ASTA accreditation: ASTA (American Society of Travel Advisors) accreditation assures clients that the agency operates under ASTA's code of ethics and will communicate with clients about unexpected changes to travel plans.
- IATA accreditation: IATA (International Air Transport Association) accreditation provides agencies with a Sales Agency Agreement and a TIDS number that authorizes sales of international and domestic airline tickets.
- Unaccredited agencies: If considering an unaccredited travel agency, take into account that their lack of accreditation could mean they are inexperienced or have had service problems that caused a loss of accreditation.
Credentials
Credentials are similar to accreditation, though on an individual level. Some travel agents obtain certification through The Travel Institute, which confirms the agent's interpersonal skills and destination knowledge. These types of certifications ensure that travelers are working with an agent that has the necessary experience to anticipate travel issues and provide solutions.
- Certified travel associate (CTA): A CTA is a professional who has a minimum of 18 months in the travel industry and has passed courses to enhance skills and service.
- Certified travel counselor (CTC): A CTC has the skills of a CTA, advanced industry training and five years of industry experience.
- Certified travel industry executive (CTIE): A CTIE is a travel industry professional who has management training within the travel agency.
Travel agencies charge fees for services provided to clients to account for time spent researching and booking travel arrangements. Keep in mind that a travel agent’s inside knowledge of travel-related discounts may make booking through an agency less expensive than self-booking over the internet.
- Airline ticket procurement fee: Travel agencies charge an airline ticket procurement fee for purchasing tickets on behalf of the traveler.
- Travel agency service fees: Other common travel agency fees include fees for booking hotels and rental cars and for time spent researching trips.
- Itemization of costs and fees: While there is no law requiring travel agencies to provide an itemized breakdown of costs and fees, you can request this information to ensure fees are reasonable.
International travel planning
Planning a trip to another country is typically more complex than planning a domestic trip due to extra paperwork and the need to know details about the destination country. A trusted global travel agency can help manage details and paperwork on your behalf.
- Destination-specific research or specialization: Some agents with certification from The Travel Institute are trained in region-specific bookings while others charge for time spent researching destinations.
- Hotel and flight packages: Using a global travel agency to book international hotel and flight packages can cut costs even after agency fees are added. To check for savings, compare online price listings to prices provided by the agency.
- Visa and passport requirements: Having visas and passports in order is vital when traveling to other countries, so confirm which documents are needed with the agency early in the trip-planning process.
Group travel planning
Planning a trip for a group can be challenging because some facilities cannot accommodate groups. Travel agencies find suitable venues and transportation for the entire group. A global travel agency can help you with international group vacations.
- Large-group discounts: Travel agencies have access to discounts based on established relationships with hotels and airline companies to secure a great price for group bookings.
- Transportation: A large group is not going to fit in a standard rental car. Confirm the travel agency is able to book a van or several cars to meet the group's transportation needs.
- Itinerary details for the group: In addition to sleeping arrangements and transportation, eating out and visiting tourist attractions can be problematic for a group. Ask the travel agency to arrange the fine points of the group's trip in addition to handling the larger details.
Land and sea planning
Planning a vacation involves more than selecting a country and booking hotel and airfare. Hiring a travel agency can help make sure travelers enjoy every stop in their itinerary.
- Add a cruise: Talk to your travel agency about adding some sea travel to any vacation. Different onboard accommodations and ports of call allow travelers to extend the reach of their trips.
- Seamless transfers: Making the transfer from onshore accommodations to a cruise ship can eat up almost an entire day, but a travel agent takes care of the hassle by arranging travel to the port at the right time.
- Planning excursions: Ask the travel agent to arrange desired shore excursions at the ship's ports of call that enrich other planned itinerary stops.
Types of travel agencies
Commercial travel agencies.
Commercial travel agencies cater to business travelers. These agencies specialize in tracking down deals for business travelers to help companies manage travel costs.
Online travel agencies
Travel agencies that exist only in cyberspace provide clients with the convenience of online booking and discounts that are available only to professional travel agencies. Some agencies offer both online booking and walk-in service for clients.
Niche travel agencies
Niche travel agencies provide clients with specialized knowledge of a region. This enhances the travel experience for clients by ensuring paperwork is in order and providing specific, often first-hand, knowledge of the area tourists are visiting.
Membership associations
Memberships associations give travelers access to the organization's travel planning services for the cost of an annual membership rather than charging per transaction. This type of agency offers the most benefit to frequent travelers.
Who uses travel agencies?
International travelers.
International travelers can cut the stress of planning trips to other countries when a global travel agency manages the details. This includes making sure each traveler has the proper paperwork and booking suitable travel accommodations.
Business travelers
Business travelers can take advantage of savings associated with discounts available only to travel agents. Some travel agencies also handle the detailed expense report paperwork required by the accounting departments of most companies.
Group travelers
Group travelers can save time when looking for accommodations that have room for the entire group by using a travel agency. Group bookings through an agent can also save you money.
Travel bargain seekers
Travel bargain seekers can discuss their travel budget with a travel agent. This is a way to determine what discounts and money-saving packages a travel agency can arrange.
Travel agencies FAQ
Most travel agencies don’t charge customers, meaning the only price you pay is the cost of your trip. Agents are typically paid commissions by the hotels or airlines. Some travel agents may charge service fees from $100 to $500, but that money is usually applied toward the cost of your trip if you complete travel arrangements through the agency.
To know if a travel agency is legit:
- Review the agency’s website for a physical address and phone number.
- Check for industry certifications and associations with professional organizations like the American Society of Travel Advisors.
- Read reviews to learn about client experiences. Ask for a list of references.
- Make sure the agent accepts credit cards.
- Compare pricing to make sure cost isn’t too high or too low.
No, it’s generally free to use a travel agent. A travel agency may charge a service fee or a booking fee, but it’s common for this fee to apply toward the cost of your trip.
The four main types of travel agencies are:
- Commercial travel agencies , which cater mainly to business travelers
- Online travel agencies that help people plan their trips entirely online
- Niche travel agencies , which specialize in arranging trips to specific areas
- Membership associations that provide travel services as a benefit to members
Using a travel agent is a more personalized experience than booking online — and sometimes cheaper. Travel agents are experts who can find the best deals on flights , cruises, hotels and activities. Agents are often available 24/7 in case of problems. And there’s usually no extra cost to use one.
Yes, a travel agent can save you money, especially if you’re traveling internationally to unfamiliar territory or if you’re organizing a trip for a big group. In addition to finding you the best deal, a travel agent saves you time planning and researching — often at no cost for services.
Travel agencies:
- Find the best deals on flights, hotels, cruises and activities for individuals, families, businesses and groups
- Give clients personalized attention and advice for trip planning
- Offer trip insurance
- Save you time and stress
- Are available 24/7 in case of a problem and advocate on your behalf
No, you don’t need to tip a travel agent. A great way to show appreciation is to refer friends, family members and co-workers. Some people choose to write a thank-you note and/or give a small gift.

Statement from the Chief Public Health Officer of Canada on Global Increase in Measles and Risk to Canada
From: Public Health Agency of Canada
As we head into the spring break travel season, I am concerned that the global surge in measles activity, combined with the decline in measles vaccine coverage among school-aged children in Canada, could lead to an increase in imported measles cases, potentially resulting in transmission in communities in Canada.
February 23, 2024 | Ottawa, ON | Public Health Agency of Canada
Global health authorities are reporting a significant increase in measles in 2023 that continues into 2024, due in part to a decline in measles vaccinations during the pandemic. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported a 79% increase in the number of global measles cases in 2023 compared to 2022. While cases can occur anywhere in the world, there has been a notable recent increase in the WHO European region .
As we head into the spring break travel season, I am concerned that the global surge in measles activity, combined with the decline in measles vaccine coverage among school-aged children in Canada, could lead to an increase in imported measles cases, potentially resulting in transmission in communities in Canada. I strongly advise everyone in Canada to be vaccinated with two doses of a measles vaccine, especially before travelling. If needed, measles vaccination should optimally be given at least two weeks before departure, but there are still benefits if given less than two weeks before travelling.
Although measles has been eliminated in Canada, cases can still occur here when an individual who is not fully vaccinated has travelled to or from a country where measles is circulating. Imported cases can lead to subsequent spread of measles in Canada among unvaccinated or under-vaccinated people. As of February 23, 2024, we are aware of six measles cases in Canada, some of whom have required hospitalization. Most of these cases involve unvaccinated or under-vaccinated children who traveled internationally.
Measles is a highly contagious airborne virus that can cause serious disease. Over 90% of people who are not immune to measles and who come into contact with the virus will become infected. Infection can lead to severe complications, including deafness and brain damage caused by inflammation of the brain, and can be fatal. Children less than 5 years of age, adults older than 20 years of age, pregnant people and people who are immunocompromised are at higher risk of complications from measles.
The 2021 childhood National Immunization Coverage Survey shows that 91.6% of 2-year-olds in Canada have received at least one dose of a vaccine against measles, but only 79.2% of 7-year-olds had received two doses. The best protection against measles is vaccination with two doses of a measles-containing vaccine, which are almost 100% effective at preventing infection. The first dose of a measles-containing vaccine is usually given to children at 12 months of age. The second dose is usually given at 18 months of age or between 4 and 6 years of age.
Anyone who is not vaccinated against measles is at risk of being infected with it when travelling internationally. Currently, a travel health notice for measles is in place for all countries. It provides recommendations to Canadians on how to protect themselves from measles when travelling. Importantly, before travelling:
- Children and adolescents should ensure that they have received both doses of a measles-containing vaccine.
- Infants between 6 and less than 12 months of age should receive a dose of measles-containing vaccine if travelling to a high-risk area. A health care provider can advise on the best approach for your child.
- Adults should ensure they have received two doses of a measles-containing vaccine if they were born in 1970 or later, and one dose of a measles-containing vaccine if born before 1970.
For everyone travelling this spring, I urge you to be vigilant in monitoring for symptoms of measles. Initial symptoms include fever, red watery eyes, runny nose, and cough followed by a red rash that starts on the face and then moves to the rest of the body. If on your journey home to Canada from travel abroad you suspect you may have contracted measles, put on a well-fitting medical mask and limit contact with others, if possible. If you are experiencing symptoms, tell a flight attendant or cruise staff before you arrive in Canada or a border services officer as you enter the country. If you develop symptoms of measles after your return, call a health care provider immediately. If you need to be seen in-person, the health care provider can arrange to see you while preventing the spread to others.
With the resurgence in measles worldwide, it is more important than ever to ensure that you and your family are keeping up with routine vaccinations. If you are unsure of your vaccination status, check with your health care provider or local public health unit. They can help ensure that you and your family are protected. Together, we can close the gap in measles vaccine coverage, and stop outbreaks from occuring.

American Airlines raises bag fees, won't allow some travel agency bookings to earn miles
- American Airlines has raised the prices of checked baggage to $40 at the airport.
- American Airlines is also reducing fees for slightly overweight bags.
- The carrier said Tuesday it will start limiting which tickets purchased through a third party are eligible to earn AAdvantage frequent flyer miles.
In this article
American Airlines has raised the price to check a bag for the first time in more than five years and said it would limit which travel agency bookings are eligible to earn frequent flyer miles.
Passengers will pay $35 to check a first bag for domestic flights if the service is booked online in advance, or $40 if they purchase the option at the airport, the carrier said Tuesday. Both options previously cost $30. A second checked bag will cost $45, up from $40, whether purchased in advance or at the airport.
Travelers' first checked bag on flights between the U.S. and Canada, the Caribbean or Mexico will be $35 whether in advance or at the airport.
American Airlines last raised bag fees in September 2018 along with other major airlines. Carriers are looking for ways to increase revenue as airfare has declined over the past year. The last inflation report showed airfare fell more than 6% in January from a year earlier.
"Our cost of transporting bags is significantly higher" over the past few years, said Scott Chandler, American's senior vice president of revenue management and loyalty. "Fuel is a big component of it."
Airlines and other companies have been grappling with how to cover higher costs , such as new labor contracts, while pricing power has waned.
Other airlines have also recently raised bag fees. This year, Alaska Airlines increased the charge for economy passengers to check bags by $5 to $35 for a first piece and $45 for a second bag. JetBlue Airways started charging most coach travelers $45 to check a bag within 24 hours of departure, up from $40. In advance, JetBlue is now charging $35 for the first bag.
"While we don't like increasing fees, it's one step we are taking to get our company back to profitability and cover the increased costs of transporting bags," JetBlue said in a statement. "By adjusting fees for added services that only certain customers use, we can keep base fares low and ensure customer favorites like seatback TVs and high-speed Wi-Fi remain free for everyone."
United Airlines and Delta Air Lines declined to comment Tuesday on potential changes to their policies. Southwest Airlines offers passengers two free checked bags.
In the first nine months of 2023, U.S. airlines brought in $5.5 billion from baggage fees — including more than $1 billion by American alone. The total was up 9% from the year-earlier period, and up more than 25% from the first nine months of 2019, according to the Transportation Department's latest data.
American's frequent flyer members with elite status and some American Airlines credit card holders will still receive a complimentary checked bag, it said Tuesday in announcing the changes.
The Forth Worth, Texas-based airline is also reducing fees for slightly overweight bags, so travelers will no longer have to frantically remove items from their suitcases at the check-in counter. For example, customers will pay a fee of $30 on checked bags that are as much as three pounds over a 50 pound limit, instead of the previous $100 fee.
American also said on Tuesday that it will start limiting which tickets purchased through a third party are eligible to earn AAdvantage frequent flyer miles, a move that aims to drive traffic to American's website and the latest in a series of changes to the program . It said it will provide a list in April of preferred travel agencies whose bookings will still be eligible for the rewards credits.
Customers who buy basic economy tickets will only earn frequent flyer miles if they book on American Airlines' website.

Ukraine-Russia war latest: Putin threatens nuclear response as he claims NATO 'preparing to strike Russian territory'
Russian President Vladimir Putin has been addressing both houses of the country's parliament this morning, two weeks ahead of an election he is guaranteed to win.

A Russian man has today pleaded guilty in a US court to charges that he smuggled large quantities of American-made, military-grade microelectronics to Russia.
Maxim Marchenko, 51, who had been based in Hong Kong, was taken into US custody in September, when he and two unnamed Russian co-conspirators were accused of using shell companies to conceal the fraudulent procurement of so-called OLED micro-displays.
Top US justice officials said in a statement that Marchenko admitted in a New York court to one count of money laundering, which carries a maximum jail sentence of 20 years, and one count of smuggling goods from the US, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years.
He is due to be sentenced on 6 June.
"The Justice Department is holding accountable those who would enable the Kremlin and its unjust war of aggression against Ukraine," said Assistant Attorney General Matthew Olsen, of the department's national security division.
Federal prosecutors said OLED micro-displays could be used in rifle scopes, night-vision goggles, thermal optics and other weapons systems.
Marchenko and his co-conspirators falsely claimed that the dual-use technology - meaning it had civilian and military applications - was being sent to China, Hong Kong and elsewhere for use in electron microscopes for medical research.
A little earlier (see post at 8.30pm ), we reported on a British minister's response to Vladimir Putin's threat in a speech today to use nuclear weapons.
Washington has now offered a response to the Russian president's comments, with state department spokesperson Matthew Miller saying the US does not have any sign that Russia is preparing to use a nuclear weapon - but will continue to monitor the situation carefully.
"It is not the first time we have seen irresponsible rhetoric from Vladimir Putin," he said.
"It is no way for the leader of a nuclear armed state to speak."
Mr Putin earlier today told Western countries they risked provoking a nuclear war if they sent troops to fight in Ukraine.
Supporters of prominent Putin critic Alexei Navalny have been urging his supporters to attend his funeral in Moscow tomorrow - and burial at a nearby cemetery.
However, a pastor at the church where the service is due to take place has indicated that it will not be open to all.
“Most likely, only relatives and friends will be allowed to attend the funeral service," the woman was quoted by the Kholod online newspaper as saying.
"There will be no farewell in the church."
Responding to the comments, one of Mr Navalny's closest aides before his death, Ivan Zhdanov, said: "There was some rumour in the media that only relatives would be allowed to attend the funeral service.
"We don't have any such information. All we know is that the temple will be open to everyone."
It comes after the European Parliament today adopted a resolution against oppression in Russia following the death of Mr Navalny.
The resolution condemned Mr Navalny's death in a remote Arctic penal colony earlier this month, and said the Russian government and Vladimir Putin were responsible.
Vladimir Putin's threat that he could order the use of nuclear weapons has been a focus of significant reaction since his comments during a speech earlier.
Joining those who responded to the remarks is UK foreign minister Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, who labelled them "irresponsible".
He levelled his criticism in Parliament after the Russian president sought to warn the West against deeper involvement in the conflict, saying that such a move risked triggering a global war that would see "the destruction of our civilisation".
Mr Putin made the comments in a state-of-the-nation address following the second anniversary of the invasion by Kremlin forces and ahead of next month's election that he seems certain to win.
Responding in Westminster, Lord Ahmad told peers: "Nothing surprises us or shocks us in terms of what Mr Putin articulates.
"It is not the first time he has articulated such comments.
"It is irresponsible, it is wrong and the use or the threatened use of such weapons is frankly quite deplorable.
"Whether he is using it with intent or as shock tactic I can't speculate on that.
"But what I can say, and I am sure I speak for everyone in the House, is that the last thing anyone wants to hear right now is the use of threatening to use such weapons."
He added: "Mr Putin himself could reflect on his own history and that of Russia to see that the only way forward on this is to ensure that he pulls back now, he brings about peace on the continent and stops the war on Ukraine."
Earlier, in the House of Lords, a peer called on the UK to "push for a negotiated settlement" with Moscow over Ukraine.
Economist and independent crossbencher Lord Skidelsky - who has previously had links to Russian companies and spoke out against Finland joining NATO - said: "I am trying to understand the logic of the government's position.
"Is it still the government's expectation that Ukraine will win a complete victory in the sense of recovering the territories it has lost since 2014?
"If so, can the minister confirm that this remains the government's position?
"If not, most experts now do not think that is a feasible endgame, should the government not couple support for Ukraine with a public push for a negotiated settlement, such as has been advocated by many countries in the world, while they still have leverage on the table, not least to avoid the unnecessary slaughter of thousands of Ukrainians and Russians?"
Responding, Lord Ahmad said: "We want to stop the slaughter of innocent Ukrainian citizens.
"The best way to stop that slaughter is for Mr Putin and Russia to stop the war now.
"There are no two ways about it, we cannot allow it.
"We back Ukraine, Ukraine's leadership is important, and the United Kingdom stands firmly behind it."
Lord Skidelsky was suspended from the upper chamber for a month last year after failing to properly declare his links to a think tank funded by two Russian businessmen who were subsequently sanctioned.
The peer, who has been critical of the government's approach to Ukraine, has previously served as a director of the Russian oil firm Russneft.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Volodymyr Karpenko as new commander of Ukraine's Logistics Forces today, it has been announced.
General Karpenko, previously logistics commander of Ukraine's ground forces, replaced Oleh Huliaka, who had held the position since 2021.
His appointment is the president's latest in a series of personnel changes in the military, including the naming of Oleksandr Syrskyi as commander in chief of the armed forces in place of Valerii Zaluzhnyi.
Poland plans to launch a series of military observation satellites next year, a deputy defence minister announced today.
"Next year, as the Ministry of Defence and the Polish Army, we want to put our first Polish satellites into orbit," Cezary Tomczyk told a news briefing.
Poland intends to acquire a satellite system equipped with radar and optical technology that would enable Earth observation regardless of atmospheric conditions and would employ both foreign and domestic technology, he said.
Defence minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz told the same briefing the country would this year develop a space force among other units, based on lessons learned from Ukraine's experiences since Russia's invasion.
"All the actions we are taking this year, creating drone forces, creating space component forces or medical forces, these are actions that strengthen the Polish army and also result from the Ukrainian experience," Mr Kosiniak-Kamysz said.
In December 2022 the Polish defence ministry signed a deal with Airbus for the delivery of two reconnaissance satellites, the launch of which is planned by 2027.
A Russian-American woman detained in Russia on a treason charge carrying up to 20 years in prison told her boyfriend "it's safe there" before she travelled to see relatives in Yekaterinburg, the woman's former mother-in-law said today.
A Russian court today rejected an appeal by Ksenia Karelina, a 32-year-old former ballerina who lives in Los Angeles, after she was detained by the FSB security service on suspicion of raising funds for Ukraine's armed forces.
Her lawyer had asked the court to lift her detention and replace it with house arrest, state news agency RIA reported.
The US embassy in Moscow was aware of the reports but could not comment further due to privacy restrictions, a spokesperson told news agency Reuters.
A Russian lawyers' group, Pervy Otdel, said it had information that Ms Karelina had donated just over $50 (£40) from her US bank account on 24 February 2022 - the day that Russia launched its invasion - to a charity that sends aid to Ukraine.
Her former mother-in-law, Eleonora Srebroski, told news agency Reuters by phone from Maryland that Ms Karelina had made a small donation to Razom for Ukraine, a New York-based nonprofit organisation that sends assistance to the country.
Razom said in a statement earlier this month that it was "appalled" by Ms Karelina's arrest and that its activities focused on "humanitarian aid, disaster relief, education and advocacy."
Ms Srebroski said Ms Karelina, who has been a US citizen since 2021, had decided to go to Yekaterinburg in January for a family visit after her boyfriend surprised her with a plane ticket while they were on holiday in Turkey.
"I am Russian, I love Russia, there is nothing wrong in Yekaterinburg, it's safe there," Ms Srebroski said was how Ms Karelina assured her boyfriend.
Ms Srebroski, who described Karelina as caring, sweet and "even more beautiful on the inside," said her former daughter-in-law arrived in the US in 2012 via a work-study program in Maryland, where she met her son and the two got married in 2013.
Ukraine has significantly increased its use of domestic-made weapons and military equipment, a senior defence official has said.
It comes as Kyiv aims to become more self-sufficient amid faltering Western military aid.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for Ukraine to strengthen its domestic defence industry as it struggles to fend off Russia's invasion and faces potential cuts in military aid from its biggest backer, the US.
Deputy defence minister Ivan Havryliuk said 46 types of domestically produced equipment had been sent to the armed forces during the first two months of 2024, an amount he said was "significantly more" than in the same period last year.
"We are doing every we can so that Ukraine over time becomes as self-sufficient as possible in providing the defence forces with the necessary weapons," he said.
Mr Havryliuk also called for Kyiv's foreign partners to boost investment and participation in joint production with Ukrainian companies.
Ukraine has signed dozens of contracts for joint production or technology exchanges with Western allies.
German defence company Rheinmetall, one of the world's biggest producers of artillery and tank shells, said this month it would open an ammunition factory in Ukraine.
Ukrainian defence minister Rustem Umerov said on Sunday that around 50% of arms deliveries from Kyiv's partners arrive late.
In the latest example of a systematic campaign to restrict media freedom in Russia, the editor of an independent newspaper has reportedly been fined.
Sergei Sokolov, of the Novaya Gazeta publication, had previously been detained by authorities for discrediting the army.
Mr Sokolov said he did not agree with the charge against him.
The official Telegram channel for Moscow's court system said the case stemmed from an article published in the newspaper in December 2023, entitled "Nobody's boys", about Russians orphans who signed army contracts to fight in Ukraine.
Novaya Gazeta said in an online report that Mr Sokolov's detention was over coverage of the Russian army in an article, but did not provide more details.
A district court in Moscow subsequently fined Sokolov 30,000 roubles (£259.86) today after finding him guilty of discrediting the Russian armed forces, an administrative offence.
Russian news agency TASS reported that Sokolov had "posted material on the Novaya Gazeta Telegram channel" which showed "signs of verbally discrediting the actions" of the army.
Novaya Gazeta is known for its investigations, which have sometimes taken aim at the Kremlin, government policy and top officials.
Its former editor-in-chief, Dmitry Muratov, a Nobel prize winning journalist, stepped down in September to challenge his designation by authorities as a "foreign agent", a label Moscow uses for people it deems to be working against Russian state interests.
Ukraine's first lady Olena Zelenska has been welcomed to Downing Street by Rishi Sunak's wife Akshata Murty.
Embracing at the door to Number 10, the pair turned to the cameras, held hands and waved before entering the building.
After a private meeting, the first ladies entered the Pillared Room of Number 10 for a rendition of the Ukrainian national anthem, performed by the Royal Opera House Songs for Ukraine Chorus - a choir made up of Ukrainian singers affected by the war.
Introduced by Ms Murty as a "special, special moment", Mrs Zelenska stood with hand on heart as the pair listened to the chorus, most of whom were wearing traditional embroidered shirts called vyshyvanka.
Ukraine's first lady had tears in her eyes as she later heard a member of the choir describe the kindness of the Royal Opera House.
The Ukrainian Chorus member, whose father was a singer before being called up to fight, described the choir as "a dream" and an "amazing opportunity".
"Thank you so much to the Royal Opera House", she said, adding: "They let us spread our wings. I am so grateful."
On the camaraderie offered by the chorus, she said: "The choir, I found friends here. It was so important to find this family."
Mrs Murty and Mrs Zelenska last met outside Number 10 in May last year, during a visit which saw Ukraine's first lady attend the King's coronation at Westminster Abbey.
Earlier today, Mrs Zelenska met the Queen at Clarence House.
She and Camilla were pictured in conversation as they sat in the Garden Room, with their meeting coming just days after the second anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
