In a nutshell

A budget travel system that comes with everything you need to take you from baby toddler. Its low price doesn’t mean it’s cheap – some materials could be more high end, but overall it is excellent quality.

What we tested

  • Value for money, easy to push, hood offers good protection, chunky wheels, 2 in 1 carrycot and seat, easy to fold
  • Materials feel a bit cheap

If you were told you could have a travel system with everything you’d need from your baby’s birth up to toddler stage (22kg) for under £300, you’d say ‘yes, please!’. The Kinderkraft XMOOV travel system comes with all this, from car seat and pushchair down to a cup holder and changing bag for just £279. It's one of many fine travel systems from the brand for the budget market - but that does not mean it is cheap on quality.

It has great functionality, with the seat unit able to convert from carrycot to toddler seat, and it is very comfortable to push for a unit so reasonably priced.

With its pricetag, the XMOOV is definitely at the lower range of the travel system market, but we have found few that offer the full bundle that Kinderkraft offers, along with superior functionality and handling.

Jennifer tested the Kinderkraft Xmoov with 5-month-old Olive in and around Dundee. The pushchair was put through its paces on city streets and country walks.

What were your first impressions of Kinderkraft’s XMOOV 3-in-1 travel system?

I was surprised when the Xmoov travel system arrived as it was all jam packed in one big box. Unlike more premium prams which require just one or two actions to assemble, this pram did require a bit of work to connect it all together.

How easy is it to assemble the Kinderkraft XMOOV?

The instructions weren’t the easiest to follow as some of the diagrams weren’t very clear. There are follow-along assembly videos on the Kinderkraft YouTube channel which show how simple the pram is to assemble but, of course, it’s never as straight forward as they suggest. Once all set up, though, the pram and car seat – and the whole package – looked good.

What do you think of the 2-in-1 carrycot/seat unit?

The XMOOV comes with a 2-in-1 carrycot and stroller seat, which is handy for those who might not have the space to store an extra stroller part when it’s not in use.

While convenient, the 2-in-1 system means that the mattress for the carrycot is also the padding for the seat, so it’s not as thick as you’d get in other pushchair systems. My daughter doesn’t like being laid flat when out and about, so we didn’t use the carrycot function very often. But despite the mattress not being very thick, the carrycot looks spacious and comfortable for babies who might appreciate it.

The stroller seat can face forwards or backwards and features a 3-stage, easy-to-use, handlebar-adjustable seat. By pressing the lever at the top of the seat, you can change the position of the seat to lying, half-sitting, and seated.

The cover of the carrycot can also be used as the footmuff on the seat. The footmuff left quite a gap for air to get in and my baby could get cold. So I’d definitely recommend travelling with a blanket to keep your child warm in winter.

How effective is the adjustable harness?

The 5-point adjustable harness ensures that your child is safe and comfortable, thanks to the soft pads and crotch pads. The soft pads can be easily removed for cleaning, and the belts can be adjusted in height, as the child grows.

How easy is it to change from carrycot to toddler seat on the Kinderkraft XMOOV?

Kinderkraft says the change from carrycot to stroller can be made in 3 steps, by fastening some straps at the back. While that may be true for those used to the product, I found it quite fiddly to fasten. But if you’re like us and your child moves to the stroller seat, you wouldn’t need to fasten the straps regularly.

How easy is the carrycot to add on/take off the pushchair?

The carrycot/stroller seat is very easy to remove. The adapters at the side have big buttons you push in to release it from the chassis. Compared to other prams which can stick, I found the removal of the carrycot to be smooth and seamless.

What do you think of the car seat that’s included with the Kinderkraft XMOOV?

The car seat, which Kinderkraft has named MINK, is fairly basic. It’s light and the 3-point safety harness is easy to use. In short, the car seat is OK. Compared to more premium car seats it falls a bit short, but considering the price of the entire travel system, you can’t complain too much.

The seat does offer a bit of head and neck support with a removable cushion, but there wasn’t much cushioning for the lower body as there was a lot of space for my daughter to move around. I didn’t like the handle as it felt quite cheap and there was no grip to it.

The MINK car seat isn’t compatible with an Isofix base, so you just feed the seatbelt straps through the slots at the front and back of the car seat.

How do you fold the Kinderkraft XMOOV?

The XMOOV is relatively easy to fold:

  • You remove the car seat or carrycot first
  • Then pull on the trigger beneath the handlebar
  • This collapses the frame, making it simple to pick up and store away
  • The handlebar is held by a hook when folded to secure it in place

There is a pinch point at the hinge of the chassis – I caught my finger in it a couple of times, but once you are used to the folding process you know where to position your hands.

MFM tester Jodie added, "Being able to dismantle the pushchair so quickly was a real winner for me as it was easy to pack away in the car after rainy park trips."

How compact is the Kinderkraft XMOOV when folded?

When folded it is a bit too wide for my car boot (H75cmxW62xL42cm), but the rear wheels can easily detach for ease of storing. Those who have a large car shouldn’t have this issue. In fact, MFM tester Jodie loved how it fit into her car’s boot: “This product is excellent,” she remarked. “It is very compact when folded-meaning there’s lots of free boot space for toddler bikes/scooters or shopping.”

How easy is it to push and steer? What are the wheels like?

The wheels on this pushchair are air-filled and really help with the handling and steering. All 4 are made of thick and chunky rubber with shock absorption which helps navigate over bumpy terrain as well as pavements for a smooth ride. The front wheels can rotate 360° or can lock straight if walking across rough terrain. They are inflatable too, so you can give them a pump up if they look a bit flat.

The steering is also light and I found it easy to push around with one hand, perfect for parents with another child looking to hold the other hand.

How sturdy is the chassis?

Upon seeing the price of the travel system, I didn’t expect much from the buggy. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The chassis is strong and capable of a bit of wear and tear and didn’t seem to get scratched if it bumped against a wall. It is all black, apart from the material on the stroller or car seat.

How comfortable is the Kinderkraft Xmoov's handlebar?

The handle comes in a brown leather-effect which I quite liked. Rather than extend outwards, the handlebar rotates and can be set in up to 8 different positions making it easy for people of different heights to find a comfortable position. The handle was easy to hold and was cushioned for added comfort.

How much coverage does the hood provide?

The hood is one of my favourite features on the stroller as it offers great protection against all the elements. It features a special mesh, which gives additional ventilation in the warmer weather and a view of your child. And when it's cold, you can cover it with some material.

The hood is deep and can be enlarged further, almost entirely covering the seat, giving maximum protection against adverse weather conditions. It also features a retractable canopy to protect against the sun. There is a handy peekaboo hole to keep an eye on your child too.

How easy are the brakes to use?

You easily find the brake pad between the 2 rear wheels and it is simple to press down and apply. The brake is also ‘flip flop friendly’ so you do not have to put your foot underneath to disengage. The brake did a good job holding the pram to a stop.

How spacious is the basket on the Kinderkraft Xmoov?

The basket is fairly spacious and has a capacity of up to 4 kg, so it will hold a lot. Additionally, it can be easily accessed from any side. It can also be removed for cleaning and easily fastened back on again.

What’s in the box?

  • 4 inflatable wheels
  • 2-in-1 carrycot and stroller seat
  • Car seat adapters
  • Enlarged hood
  • Detachable bumper bar
  • Eco-leather handlebar
  • Mosquito net
  • Changing bag with changing mat

What are the additional accessories that you can buy?

The Kinderkraft XMOOV system comes with pretty much everything you need, so there’s no need for any further accessories.

What is worth knowing before buying the Kinderkraft Xmoov?

For the RRP of £279, I would want to know the quality of the product that I’m buying as the price seems too good to be true. Some of the materials feel like they could be better, but on the whole, it is well worth it.

Is this pushchair worth the money?

This travel system is absolutely worth the money. It comes with everything you need for going out with a baby – it even comes with a changing bag. It is suitable from birth to a weight of 22kg. For £279, this is a bargain. Our MFM Awards testers agreed. “An excellent quality product that really offers value for money,” said Jodie. “I highly recommend this product and wish I had purchased it for my first child rather than spending 5 times the price on a different model.”

How does it compare to similar pushchairs?

Similar travel system bundles include the Ickle Bubba Stomp V4 , My Babiie MB200+ and Hauck Pacific 4 Shop n Drive – you can see a comparison of their key features below.

Where can I buy the Kinderkraft Xmoov?

It's available from Amazon , Kiddies Kingdom and Pramworld .

MadeForMums verdict:

A fantastic value, all-in-one pushchair that offers everything a parent needs from birth to toddler. Seeing as some travel systems can cost in excess of £1,000, this one has everything that an expectant parent needs and would be ideal for those on a budget. It’s also useful for those who don’t want the hassle of mixing and matching a dozen products and who want an easy-to-choose bundle for a fantastic price.

It handles well and has a well-functioning fold too. The materials are perhaps not the best quality, particularly on the foot cover and sun canopy, but for the price you're paying you can’t really complain.
