As India reopens its borders to commercial travellers from nearly 100 countries, authorities have also eased PCR testing requirements for children.

Authorities in India have updated regulations for travel to the country. This is good news for families planning to fly to India in the near future.

After halting tourist visas in March 2020, India is allowing quarantine-free entry from Monday to fully inoculated travellers from 99 countries, including the UAE.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has updated guidelines for international arrivals.

Previously, babies, infants and children of all ages had to have a PCR test before flying to the country. This has now been eased, with children aged under 5 no longer required to take a pre-flight PCR test.

Despite India not yet being on the Abu Dhabi green list , travel between the UAE and India is open.

On November 7, Abu Dhabi extended its green list of countries from where travellers can travel without quarantine. Authorities added 13 new countries to the list, which now runs to 95 destinations, almost half of all the countries in the world.

India – a country of more than one billion people – remains notably absent from this ever-evolving list. However, the UAE and India have an air bubble partnership in place, which means travel is allowed between the two countries, with no quarantine for vaccinated travellers flying to or from India.

However, there are some additional restrictions in place.

Who can travel to India from the UAE?

India and the UAE have an air bubble agreement that allows airlines to operate flights to and from both countries.

Travel to India via this scheme is restricted to specific categories of passengers. Nationals from India, Bhutan or Nepal, and Overseas Citizen of India and Person of Indian Origin cardholders with foreign passports can fly to India. Emiratis and foreigners from other countries in Africa or South America can also fly to India, but must have a valid visa. Tourist visas or e-visa issued on or after October 6 are now valid for travel to India.

From India to the UAE, only Emiratis, ICA and GDRFA-approved UAE residents, and nationals from India, Bhutan or Nepal holding a valid visa can travel via the air corridor agreement.

Vaccinated travellers flying to Abu Dhabi from India do not need to quarantine on arrival, but will undergo a PCR test on arrival.

Travellers also need to stay up to date on the latest requirements for flying to Abu Dhabi from India. Currently, these include registering via the ICA Smart Travel Service, taking a PCR test no more than 48 hours before travel and having a rapid PCR test within six hours of boarding at the departure airport.

What do I need to do before travelling to India from the UAE?

Travellers need to submit a self-declaration form before travelling to India. This can be found here and needs to be completed for each person flying, including infants and children. After filling in the form, travellers will get an approval code that will be required before boarding any flight.

All passengers must also have a printed colour copy of the self-declaration form when travelling, unless flying to Hyderabad where two copies are required.

Vaccinated travellers need to upload their vaccination certificate on the Air Suvidha online portal and carry a printed copy of the certificate, which should be in English.

Finally, passengers need to download the Aarogya Setu app on their mobile phones – you can find the link here .

Depending on which state travellers are flying to, there could be other rules to follow, such as to Chennai in Tamil Nadu where travellers need to apply for an e-pass at least 48 hours before flying.

All travellers should regularly check the local regulations for their destination.

Do I need a PCR test before flying to India?

All travellers need a PCR test before flying to any destination in India. The test must be taken no more than 72 hours before travel and results must be uploaded on to the Air Suvidha online portal.

Babies and children aged under 5 no longer need a PCR test, after Indian authorities updated regulations on November 11. Children under 5 are also exempt from any on-arrival tests, unless they display Covid-19 symptoms. If this happens on arrival or during the home quarantine period, the children would need to undergo testing.

Travellers also need a hard copy of their negative test results with them when they travel; digital copies are not accepted.

Do I need to be vaccinated to fly to India?

Travellers do not need to be vaccinated before flying to India. However, there are different rules in place for travellers who are fully immunised and those who are not.

India recognises all vaccines administered in the UAE, but travellers must have completed both doses of any vaccine at least 15 days before travelling.

What restrictions are in place in India?

After landing in India, travellers need to follow the rules in place for the destination they have flown to, as these change from region to region.

Vaccinated travellers arriving in any destination must self‑monitor their health for 14 days after arrival in India. Non-vaccinated travellers will have to take an on-arrival Covid-19 test and then home quarantine for seven days. Another test must be taken on day eight.

The cost of these on-arrival tests varies depending on the airport that travellers land at. Mumbai has the cheapest tests, from 600 Indian rupees ($8), while Bangalore's express tests are some of the more expensive options at 3,200 Indian rupees ($43) per person. Travellers arriving in Kerala and requiring an on-arrival test will receive it free of charge.

All travellers may have to undergo thermal screening and should wear face masks in public places and avoid crowded areas when in India.

Which airlines are flying between India and the UAE?

Because of the air bubble restrictions, there are fewer flights operating between India and the UAE at the moment than there were pre-pandemic. However, several airlines are flying between the two countries.

Etihad Airways operates from Abu Dhabi to several destinations in India, including Hyderabad, Kochi, Trivandrum and Mumbai. From Dubai, Emirates airline flies to several cities across India, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Delhi and Kolkata.

Other airlines operating to India from the UAE include flydubai, Air India, Air Arabia, IndiGo, Vistara and SpiceJet.

When will India be added to the Abu Dhabi green list?

It's not clear when India will be added to the Abu Dhabi green list.

Abu Dhabi authorities will continue to add or remove countries to the list “subject to change based on global Covid-19 developments”.

Firstly, Indian citizens who are stranded in Abu Dhabi and wish to return to India are exempted from some of the travel restrictions. They are allowed to fly back to India, provided they follow the necessary quarantine and testing protocols upon arrival.

Secondly, OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) cardholders, who are foreign nationals but of Indian origin, are also exempted from certain travel restrictions. They are allowed to travel to India, subject to following the required protocols like quarantine and testing.

During this time, travelers are expected to follow all necessary precautions, such as wearing masks, practicing social distancing, and maintaining proper hand hygiene.

It's important to note that the cost of the institutional quarantine is usually borne by the traveler themselves. However, some states in India have waived or reduced the fees for certain categories of individuals, such as pregnant women, senior citizens, or those with financial constraints. It is essential for travelers to check the specific guidelines and requirements of the state they are traveling to in order to understand the full details of the quarantine process.

After completing the mandatory institutional quarantine period, travelers will be required to undergo further testing. This is usually a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test, which is considered more accurate. If the test result is negative, travelers will be allowed to proceed to their final destination within India. It is important to note that some states within India have different quarantine guidelines, so travelers may be required to undergo additional quarantine measures depending on their final destination.

Overall, it is clear that there are strict quarantine measures in place for travelers arriving from Abu Dhabi to India. These measures are crucial in preventing the spread of COVID-19 and protecting the health and safety of the Indian population. Travelers should be aware of and adhere to these guidelines to ensure a smooth and safe journey.

Exploring the Current Travel Restrictions in Arizona: What You Need to Know

Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is a major international transportation hub that connects many destinations around the world. One popular route for travelers from Abu Dhabi is to India, due to its close proximity and strong ties between the two countries. However, when planning a trip from Abu Dhabi to India, it is important to be aware of the current travel and transit regulations in place.

One of the key considerations for travelers is whether there are any options for direct flights from Abu Dhabi to India. Fortunately, there are several airlines that operate direct flights between these two destinations. Emirates, Etihad Airways, Air India, and IndiGo are some of the airlines that offer direct flights from Abu Dhabi to major cities in India such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bangalore. These direct flights provide a convenient and time-saving option for travelers who prefer to reach their destination without any layovers or transit stops.

However, it is important to note that the availability of direct flights may vary depending on the time of year and current travel restrictions. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, many airlines have reduced their flight schedules and implemented additional safety measures. Therefore, it is always advisable to check with the airline or travel agency for the most up-to-date information on flight availability and any travel restrictions that may be in place.

In addition to direct flights, another important consideration for travelers from Abu Dhabi to India is the transit regulations that may be in place. Many travelers opt for connecting flights, especially if there are no direct flights available or if they are looking for more flexible options. In such cases, it is essential to be aware of the transit regulations imposed by the transit countries.

For example, if a traveler is flying from Abu Dhabi to India with a layover in Dubai, they would need to comply with the transit regulations imposed by the United Arab Emirates and India. This may include obtaining a transit visa, adhering to specific COVID-19 testing or quarantine requirements, and complying with any additional travel restrictions or protocols that may be in place. It is crucial to research and understand these transit regulations well in advance to avoid any complications or delays during the journey.

Travelers from Abu Dhabi to India should also keep in mind that transit regulations may vary depending on the traveler's nationality or residency status. It is advisable to consult the Indian embassy or consulate in Abu Dhabi or the relevant government authorities for the most accurate and updated information on transit regulations and any necessary travel documents.

To summarize, there are options for direct flights from Abu Dhabi to India, offered by various airlines. However, the availability of these direct flights may depend on factors such as current travel restrictions or other external circumstances. In addition, travelers should be aware of the transit regulations imposed by any transit countries, especially if they are planning to take connecting flights. By staying informed and being well-prepared, travelers can ensure a smooth and hassle-free journey from Abu Dhabi to India.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms batter UAE: Several flights cancelled, alerts issued | VIDEO

Residents of the uae woke up to strong winds, thunder and heavy rains in the early hours of thursday, although the intensity decreased by 4:30 am. an amber alert was issued by the met department and several flights were cancelled as more rain was expected..

Aveek Banerjee

Although the intensity of the rain decreased around 4:30 am, further downpours of varying intensities are expected throughout the day. The UAE's meteorological department issued an amber alert on Thursday, indicating that rain-bearing clouds had covered most parts of the Middle Eastern country.

Moderate to heavy rains were reported over the western islands of Abu Dhabi, including Al Abyad Island, along with small hailstones in some areas at 1:30 am. Moderate rainfall with lighting and thunder was also reported in Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Al Shawamekh in Abu Dhabi around the same time. This evolved into heavy rainfall with lightning and thunder across most parts of Abu Dhabi.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms were reported at 3 am at Jebel Ali, Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai Industrial City, Dubai Investments Park, and Jumeirah Village Triangle. Other areas of Dubai received moderate to heavy rainfall by 3:30 to 4:30 am, after which the intensity of rainfall decreased in Dubai.

Flights cancelled, advisories issued

The National Centre of Meteorology of the UAE has asked residents to follow safety measures during rainy conditions. ""Avoid driving unless absolutely necessary. If necessary, drive with caution and remain vigilant and alert to ensure the safety of all road users," the alert read. Adding a safety tip reminding motorists to turn on low-beam headlights when visibility is reduced," it said.

Several flights across the nation were cancelled, delayed or diverted as rainfall affected air travel. Emirates Airlines announced reduced flight operations at Dubai Airport due to the weather and said passengers flying in and out of Dubai should be prepared for potential delays and rescheduling. "We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience. Affected customers will be re-accommodated. Those who wish to rebook should contact their travel agent or nearest Emirates Office. All rebooking charges will be waived," it said on X.

Waterlogging was reported in several parts of Abu Dhabi. The Dubai police also issued guidelines under the circumstances, asking people to avoid driving through flooded areas and reduce speed. "Let's work together to ensure everyone’s safety during rainy weather conditions by following the necessary guidelines on the road, at work, and home," it said.

Air Arabia also advised passengers flying from Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah to plan for additional travel time to the airport due to weather conditions. Meanwhile, inter-city bus services between Dubai have also been suspended until further notice due to unstable weather conditions, according to Dubai's Road and Transport Authority (RTA).

UAE's worst rainfall in 75 years

This came after the UAE experienced an unprecedented weather event earlier this month as heavy rains and a storm struck the nation, sweeping its main city Dubai and leading to widespread disruption of essential services like traffic or air travel. Even now, the country is struggling to recover from the rainfall as its main airport worked to restore normal operations even as floodwater still covered portions of major highways and roads.

The desert Arab country does not usually receive much rainfall. The state-run WAM news agency called the rains beginning from Tuesday “a historic weather event” that surpassed "anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949". The Emirates carrier, whose operations had been struggling since the storm, had stopped travellers flying out of the UAE from checking into their flights as they tried to move out connecting passengers.

At least four people died in the record rains, as the Dubai International Airport struggled to clear a backlog of flights and many roads were still flooded in the aftermath of the deluge. Flooding trapped residents in traffic, offices and homes. Many reported leaks at their homes, while footage circulated on social media showed malls overrun with water pouring from roofs.

Passengers departing from Abu Dhabi to any destination in India must have a PCR test result taken within 72 hours prior to departure, Air India Express said on Monday.

Earlier on Saturday, the airline had said that passengers who have taken both the doses of Covid-19 vaccination in India are exempted from taking PCR tests prior to their departure to India from the UAE.

However, in a travel update for individuals travelling specifically from the Abu Dhabi International Airport, the airline clarified that such relaxation wasn’t applicable when flying out from the Capital.

“All passengers departing from Abu Dhabi Airport must have a RT-PCR report issued within 72 hours,” the airline said on Monday.

Air India Express’ directive is in line with the protocol followed in Abu Dhabi by the national carrier Etihad Airways.

“You must take a PCR test to travel with Etihad Airways even if the country you are travelling to does not require one,” Etihad Airways said.

Unstable weather in UAE: Here are the latest updates

Uae weather.

  • Environment

Take a look at the latest weather updates and advisories from across the UAE

Heavy rain lashed the UAE on Thursday morning, but cloud cover has since significantly receded. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) says the unstable weather was caused by an extension of low pressure from the Red Sea, along with humid south-easterly winds, which caused rain clouds to migrate from Saudi Arabia towards the UAE.  Will it rain on Friday? NCM expert explains what to expect over the weekend.

Here are the latest updates from across the UAE.
