4.5 stars. We joined the Free tours by foot in NOLA/ Garden District back in Feb, had a great experience and was glad to find out there is one in Boston as well. Signing up for the tour was easy enough though I don't really like the idea of paying the (optional) fee via PayPal. For some reason when I did that in New Orleans, it automatically created a new PayPal account for me, based on the email address I used. (Even though it says you don't need a PayPal account...) But this time when I attempted to use the same email to pay, it just wouldn't go through despite resetting the password and what not. Ended up asking hubby to pay with his PayPal. Quite a hassle. Other than that, our guide, Brian, was hilarious and passionate about educating us and I had a great time. We took the tour on Mother's Day and half of the 25 or so customers were from Europe. I think maybe there is a little language barrier as not everyone laughed at Brian's jokes. Plus it was a super windy and cold day and some just wanna go back to bed I guess. The tour was about 1 hour 45 mins. It really didn't walk far, maybe 1-1.5 miles. But I truly enjoyed the story telling. Highly recommend.

We had a great North End tour with David today. In spite of the rain throughout the tour David kept us entertained along with providing great and interesting detail throughout the tour. David's appreciation for food made the tour that much better. We were definitely ready to eat some great North end food by the end of the tour. Along with David's entertaining stories he also shared a very moving story when telling us about the beautifully designed Holocaust memorial. Free Tours and David are highly recommended.

What a lovely tour! Stephen was erudite, entertaining, informative and passionate about Boston - the people, place, the history. As an English teacher I loved the "extras" ( e.g. "Bostonian" origin of words and expressions (like "to read someone the riot act" and "hooker"). He's a born story-teller and teacher. The talk was fast paced, chock full of interesting details - sometimes heartbreaking details - (the graves...) - at other times wild hilarious snippets of info. He made Boston come alive and deepened my appreciation of the art and architecture. Cool clear weather, small group, drawing history through our feet. What more could we want. Bravo Stephen!

My family did two tours with Free Tours By Foot- Freedom Trail and the North End Tour. We have done several Free Tours By Foot in Washington, DC and both Boston tours were phenomenal! Our first tour was on the Freedom Trail. Our guide gave us some great historical information and just the right amount of humor. Our second tour was with David and the North End tour. He had a different energy from our first guide but he still was excellent. David also gave us several excelllent food recommendations for food in the North End including the fabulous Maria's Pastry Shop! I cannot recommend the tours and these tour guides more. 5 Yelp stars!

Excellent tour of the Freedom Trail in Boston. We met Brian at Boston Common after arriving in Boston that morning, and wandered down the Freedom Trail for about a mile and a half with the tour ending at Quincy Market. We had been delayed at the airport over night, so we needed something to get us moving and wake us up. Brian delivered!! His enthusiasm and energy is contagious. We learned so much about the history and city in just a few short hours and felt much more grounded and aware of our surroundings than we would've been on our own. He's got a fantastic "Southie" accent and it made the tour even more delightful. We highly recommend the tour and hope to do it again some day!

Very knowledgeable and offered great advice on where to stop for food! Loved the tour with David P.

We toured Boston's Freedom Trail this summer and it was the best experience! Our guide, David P., really kept everyone engaged the entire time, even my 8 yr old! And I'm sure my 15yr old will forever remember the greatest early American architect, Charles Bullfinch! We loved the tour so much that after lunch we decided to join in on his second half of the trail tour. So much history in Boston and David explained it all so well. I definitely recommend Free Tours by Foot!!!!

I did the Free Tours by Foot with David in Cambridge, starting right on time at the Harvard Square T station, moving through the Harvard Campus and then ending right back where we began, two hours later. A tremendously interesting tour with lots of tidbits, small pieces of knowledge and a great engaging style from David. From the number of times he described things with "we," his passion about Harvard and Cambridge shined through for the entire walking tour. The tour is completely free, so there's no commitment. If you don't like it, and I doubt that would happen, you just wander off. If you're still there at the end, you tip the tour guide, as I did. $20 or so per person works well. So be prepared and have the cash with you. I've done a number of free walking tours in various cities (Barcelona, Dublin, Edinburgh, etc.) and this was absolutely one of the best. Really enjoyable. Thank you, Free Tours by Foot. And thank you, David.

I fell in love with Free Tours on Foot when I studied abroad in Europe and I'm so glad they had a company that offered the same affordable, interesting, and fun tour by a real local. Our guide for our 2-hour Freedom Trail Tour was Brian and he was GREAT. He had such a lively personality to get the group going and was clear with how he explained the history and background and 11/17 stops on the Freedom Trail. Even though it's 2 hours it still didn't feel like enough just based on all his knowledge. Our tour group was between 15-20 people so it is a bit on the medium size group but we were able to still hear everything and didn't miss a beat. Brian had a great sense of humor as well and made sure that we were engaged the entire tour. We passed by Carrie Nation during the tour and we were fortunate to have the opportunity to see the speakeasy in the back and that had us coming back hours later. We ended up near Fanueil Hall but per Brian's recommendation we ended up going to Sam La Grassas for pastrami and Omni Parker for a Boston Cream Pie.

The 10 Best Freedom Trail Tours in Boston

Explore the history of the original New England patriots.

From day trips to weekend getaways, our biweekly Traveler newsletter shows you the best of New England and beyond.

Freedom Trail tour guide in Boston Common

A Freedom Trail Foundation tour guide in Boston Common. / Photo provided by Freedom Trail® Foundation

Whether you’re a Boston local or a tourist here for the weekend, you’re probably familiar with the red-brick road of the Freedom Trail, a quintessential landmark as recognizable as our beloved Citgo sign. But unlike Kenmore’s iconic sign, there’s no debate over the historical significance of the Freedom Trail. With 16 sites over 2.5 miles, stretching from Boston Common to Charlestown, the Freedom Trail paints a picture of the American Revolution, and the vital role our city played in the nation’s independence. Next time you’re looking to revisit the roots of our city, check out one of these tours to find the experience that works best for you.

Boston By Foot Heart of the Freedom Trail

Dust off your U.S history knowledge in a 90-minute, 0.7-mile tour of downtown Boston’s most famous landmarks from the nation’s path to independence. From Faneuil Hall to the first public school in America, you’ll be guided through the stomping grounds of the original New England patriots.

$8-$15, Samuel Adams Statue, Faneuil Hall, Boston, 617-367-2345, bostonbyfoot.org .

Boston By Foot: Boston By Little Feet

Described as a “child’s-eye view” of the Freedom Trail, this condensed version of their Heart of the Freedom Trail tour is designed specifically for children ages 6-12. Covering 0.7 miles and 10 historic spots in 60 minutes, the Boston By Little Feet tour is built to pack the city’s history into shorter attention spans.

$10-$12, Samuel Adams Statue, Faneuil Hall, Boston, 617-367-2345, bostonbyfoot.org .

Boston Duck Tours

The duck boats are as iconic as Boston itself, so why not use these semi-aquatic vehicles to tour the city? On any Duck Tour, you can see Freedom Trails sites like the Granary Burying Ground, Boston Common, and Faneuil Hall, as well as slightly more modern landmarks, like Cheers. Plus, you can receive discounts at the Museum of Science, the New England Aquarium, shops, and restaurants with your ticket.

$10.50-$42.99, 9 a.m. to 1 hour before sunset, Prudential Center, 53 Huntington Ave., Museum of Science, 1 Science Park, New England Aquarium, Central Wharf, Boston, 617-267-3825, bostonducktours.com .

Free Tours By Foot Freedom Trail Tour

With Free Tours by Foot, you name your price. This 2-hour, 1-mile tour of Freedom Trail sites including the Old Corner Bookstore, Park Street Church, and Boston Common tells an “epic story of Boston’s rise and America’s birth.” And at the end, the price is up to you.

With tours conducted by classically trained historians, Lessons on Liberty promises to be “Boston’s most historically accurate tour,” providing “little known facts and details” about colonial Boston’s landmark events, from the Stamp Act to the Boston Tea Party. With Old Town Trolley Tours Trolley and Freedom Trail Package, you can experience a narrated hop-on, hop-off ride from the Pru to the waterfront and a 90-minute walking tour of the Freedom Trail. As a bonus, your ticket grants you free admission to the Old State House Museum and Boston’s Dreamland Wax Museum.

$8-$14, February, select Saturdays and Sundays at 12:45 p.m., Boston Common Visitor Information Center, 139 Tremont St., Boston, 617-357-8300, thefreedomtrail.org .

The Freedom Trail Foundation’s Lantern Tour

Explore the darker side of Boston’s history guided by a costumed Freedom Trail Player and the eerie glow of lantern light. I am definitely bookmarking this for when I make it to Boston for the first time. Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks for posting this Ryan! Don’t think I would have ever considered a formal walking tour in Boston before!

No problem Aaron!

Really cool tours! Last time I was in Boston, some friends and I just showed up to the Sam Adams Brewery for a tour. Unfortunately it was packed and booked up for the day so that is definitely one people will want to get there early for or make a reservation.

Thanks Suzy! Yeah, the Sam Adams tour seems to be a popular one…

I’m heading here in May for the first time, and this will really help me out. thanks!

You’re very welcome!

This is awesome! Thanks for sharing this. We’ll definitely be up for some walking tours when we’re in Boston.

Estas excursiones son en idioma español?, me pueden decir cuales?

I’m not sure that these tours are in Spanish. You should contact the tour company and inquire about Spanish versions of the tours.

Have this tours been canceled? Last review was posted in 2013.

No. The tours are still running as of today. I recently went through the article and updated it with new info/links as well as a disclaimer at the top of the post stating that I do not run any of these tours.

Houston Rockets v Los Angeles Clippers

LOS ANGELES, CA - APIRL 14: Boban Marjanovic #51 of the Houston Rockets smiles before the game against the LA Clippers on April 14, 2024 at Crypto.Com Arena in Los Angeles, California. Boban Marjanovic was a fan favorite with the Clippers, the same way he has been at every stop in his NBA career — the man exudes the joy of getting to play a game for a living.

Boban is going to be even more popular with Clippers fans now. During the fourth quarter of the Clippers’ meaningless final game of the season against the Rockets (both teams’ fates had been decided), Boban stepped to the free-throw line and missed his first shot. The crowd cheered because the Clippers have a promotion where if an opposing player misses back-to-back free throws in the fourth quarter everyone gets a coupon for a free Chic-Fil-A chicken sandwich. People LOVE free food. Watch what Boban does next.

That is him saying, “I got you,” then intentionally missing a free throw, followed by a little celebration with the crowd. Boban is the best.

He wasn’t done, there was also this moment where 7'4" Boban lost a jump ball to 6-foot even Xavier Moon.

"OH MY GOODNESS!" 😂 Xavier Moon with a jump-ball win for the ages! pic.twitter.com/sACnXhahbq — NBA (@NBA) April 14, 2024

Maybe this game was meaningless, but Boban made it a lot of fun.

Scottie Scheffler wins 2024 Masters for his second green jacket

AUGUSTA, GEORGIA - APRIL 14: Scottie Scheffler of the United States celebrates on the 18th green after winning the 2024 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club on April 14, 2024 in Augusta, Georgia. (Photo by Andrew Redington/Getty Images)

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Scottie Scheffler has been stating his claim as the No. 1 player in the world for three years. Sunday, Scheffler declared himself the dominant force of his era.

Scheffler, 27, won the Masters by four strokes over a star-studded leaderboard for his second green jacket in three years. He becomes the fourth-youngest golfer to win the Masters twice, following Jack Nicklaus, Seve Ballesteros and Tiger Woods. He joins Nicklaus and Woods as the only three players with two Players Championship wins and two green jackets.

For some time on a picture-perfect Sunday afternoon at Augusta National, it appeared an all-time race for the Masters championship was coming into form. The four men playing in the last two groups — Scheffler, Collin Morikawa, Max Homa and Ludvig Åberg — were all tied at 6-under at one point on the front nine.

But then Scheffler, who shot a final-round 68, put his foot down, and everyone else got out of the way.

As he stood in the fairway on the ninth hole, Scheffler unfurled a shot so good it’ll have a chance to become part of Masters lore — hitting it just high of the flag stick from 89 yards away and watching it spin back to six inches. A foot away from the hole, it looked like it was rolling in for eagle, patrons leaping out of their chairs in anticipation. He “settled” for birdie and took the lead at 8-under.

Scheffler then birdied the par-4 10th, a hole he had double-bogeyed on Saturday, to get to a two-stroke lead over Homa and Åberg.

Morikawa, playing with Scheffler, was the first to drop from contention. He doubled-bogey the 9th hole, parred the 10th and then put his second shot in the water on No. 11, venting his frustration as he watched the Masters slip from his grasp with a second double bogey.

Åberg was next, also finding the water on Augusta National’s treacherous 11th hole and scoring a double bogey to drop four shots behind Scheffler.

Last was Homa, still within reach of Scheffler until his tee shot on the par-3 12th flew the green, took a nasty bounce into the greenery on the hill behind it, and forced Homa to take an unplayable lie penalty. He had a double bogey after a poor chip, and was three shots behind even after Scheffler’s bogey on No. 11, his second of the day.

From there it became clear there could only be one, Scheffler adding birdies on holes Nos. 13, 14 and 16 to keep the rest of the field hopelessly chasing. Åberg finished second (7-under) in his first Masters appearance, followed by Morikawa, Homa and Tommy Fleetwood (tied at 4-under).

Two years ago, Scottie Scheffler held a three-stroke lead the morning of the Masters and broke down in his wife Meredith’s arms, confiding in her that he did not feel ready for what was about to come. He was. He is, even though he did not have Meredith with him this week , as she stayed behind at their home in Dallas to await the birth of their first child. Scheffler had promised to withdraw from the tournament should she go into labor (she’s due later this month). It wasn’t necessary. Nothing was stopping him from this Masters win.

go-deeper

How the ‘Scottie Shuffle’ is Scheffler’s unique weapon as he seeks a second Masters

He now has nine PGA Tour wins with two majors, compiling a resume of excellence unmatched this decade. Those nine wins include two Masters, two Players Championships, two Arnold Palmers Invitationals, two Phoenix Opens and a WGC match play win. But maybe more telling has been Scheffler’s unprecedented consistency. He’s played 15 majors as a tour player, and he’s been top 25 in all but one. He’s been top 10 in 10 of them. The last time he finished a professional tournament outside the top 31 was in October 2022.

Scheffler’s been world No. 1 for 83 of the last 107 weeks, and his win Sunday further solidifies the belief that nobody is reaching him any time soon. The only question left for Scheffler was if he could stabilize his putting to ensure he added more majors and had a trophy room to match his special level. Now, he’s on a four-event run of winning the Players, the Arnold Palmer and the Masters as a 4-to-1 favorite.

Suddenly, the question is not whether Scheffler can truly operate like golf’s biggest star. It’s if anyone can stop him.
