8 Reasons Why Being a Tour Guide is the Best Job

my dream job tourist guide essay

Everyone is telling you to quit your day job, live the dream, escape your office cubicle and travel the world, right? You’re sitting at your desk reading this, dreaming of open roads and stunning sights, but probably wondering ‘how the hell can anyone afford that?’

The answer, my friends, is to earn while you’re travelling.

There’s a number of different paths to earning as you travel; teaching English overseas, working remotely for your company, becoming a virtual assistant or even travel blogging – but only one option that will enrich your travel experience. Becoming a tour guide is one of the most rewarding and exhilarating ways to see the world, learn about a country’s culture and history while sharing your love of travel with people just like you.

Here’s 8 reasons why being a tour guide is the best way to travel the world and still earn a living.

Why being a guide is the best job

1. You’ll learn a valuable skill set for a future career

Tour Guides wear multiple ‘hats’ while running a trip. It may look like your guide is having a relaxed holiday alongside the group, but the reality is that a tour guide is a travel agent, therapist, accountant, event manager, historian, conflict resolution manager, tax and currency expert and professional public speaker. All skills which carry across impressively to any future career.

Depending on what types of tours you decide to lead, you’ll also be required to become certified in a few different core competency areas which are irreplacable skills to possess for your own travels as well.

2. You will see more countries & cities than you ever thought possible

In most cases, a tour guide does not just do the same tour loop for an entire season. A fully trained tour guide will have the opportunity to guide many different itineraries for their tour company – meaning you will visit, study and experience new destinations multiple times! Start racking up that country count, you’re about to become a professional full-time traveller.

3. You will be living the dream

You will be paid to travel. Your job, every day, will be to show first-time travellers their way around a new destination. As a tour guide, ‘work’ means being a part of someone’s happiest holiday memories. You are actually required to have fun for a living while travelling! Be warned – most of your friends back at their desk jobs will be insanely jealous of your daily updates from Monaco, Barcelona and Bali.

Why being a guide is the best job

4. You’ll become an expert on history, art and architecture

To be a truly excellent tour guide, you need to know your stuff, which means studying up on architectural styles, historical fun facts and the best places to eat, drink and party. This isn’t your boring old history teacher studying – think researching the funniest stories of a royal family or the perfect recipe for goulash to share with your groups.

Pretty soon you will be an expert in Corinthian columns, traditional eating habits in multiple countries and the hilarious history of inter-country grudges. Your pub quiz score is going to go through the roof once you’ve become a tour guide!

Why being a guide is the best job

5. Your colleagues will be just like you!

Forget trying to make friends with Steve from HR who just doesn’t understand your wanderlust obsession. When you work in the travel industry, all your colleagues are as crazy about travel as you are! You will finally be surrounded by people who understand and encourage your need to see the world and experience new cultures. It will be a relief and inspiration all at once. (Sorry Steve)

6. You can save while travelling

When you are guiding, your transport expenses, accommodation and some meals are all covered – meaning half of what you earn can be saved. With no rent, car payments or gas bills, you can accrue a decent amount in savings while you travel. This means that at the end of a season of guiding you will have some cash stashed for your own travel adventures!

Why being a guide is the best job

7. You will become a destination expert

Knowing a destination inside out means you’ll know all the best restaurants, bars, cafes and insider tips to maximize the fun you’ll have while also getting the best possible price on meals and drinks.

8. You’ll have friends all over the world

Just like anyone who takes a tour, at the end of a trip you are best friends with the other people who shared the experience with you. That means, as a tour guide, you will have hundreds of best friends who were on your tours scattered across the world.

Next time you go backpacking in Australia, Mexico, South Africa or Canada you’ll have local friends from your tours ready to show you their home towns, and maybe even a free couch to crash on. What an excellent excuse to do even more travelling!

Why being a guide is the best job

Becoming a tour guide isn’t easy, there are some intensive training and a long interview process, but if you manage to score the job, it is undoubtedly the best way to travel the world and still earn the cash you need to enjoy it!

So, are you ready to abandon the 9 to 5?

Finally, I came to the realisation that it is my passion. Some people aspire to work as college professors or university instructors, but I would like to teach at a public school. I intend to devote the remainder of my life to teaching young children and students and I'm making a lot of effort to make my dream come true.

Reason I Chose Teaching

I picked teaching as my dream career for a variety of reasons. I enjoy teaching, which is why I started it first. I know that working as a teacher will allow me to lead a very dedicated life where I will be able to make a genuine difference in people’s lives. 500 Words Essay On My Dream Job

A career that combines activity, talent or passion with a chance to make money is referred to as a dream job. A dream job could be in the performing arts, law, medicine, acting, or any other vocation. Having a dream job offers us the drive to take actions that will help us realise our goals.

A dream can inspire you to pursue your goals, as lacking motivation is akin to lacking the desire or inspiration to do so. Setting the correct path is the first step toward achieving your goals. If the appropriate objectives are defined, one can undoubtedly realise their ambition.

Setting a goal is similar to making a strategy for each step and taking it one at a time. The key to achieving success in life is to have a clear goal in mind. Even though sometimes, not all of your dreams may come true, you should continue to have plans and keep working on achieving them.

My Dream Job : Doctor

My childhood dream has always been to become a doctor. I know the suffering of those who live in poverty and sometimes pass away due to lack of access to expensive medical care. There is no more extraordinary service than providing healthcare to the sick and poor people who suffer greatly in the absence of modern healthcare facilities. After hearing and witnessing some unfortunate incidents of people losing their lives simply because of their financial status motivated me to choose the medical profession. I made the decision to go into medicine and help people.

I'm keenly interested in learning about subjects relating to the human body. I've always been fascinated by how doctors comprehend the illness and successfully treat patients. Biology is my all-time favourite subject. Even though pursuing a profession in medicine is not simple, I'll work tirelessly to finish my studies and acquire my dream position one day.

I intend to help the underprivileged residents of my community once I have earned my medical degree. Numerous fatal diseases affect the poor, and they are unable to pay for better care. I would schedule a few days every month to provide treatment for all the needy people for free or at a minimal fee in an effort to help them receive medical attention that they need and deserve.

The profession of a doctor has the greatest respect. My goal in life is to become a doctor so that I can help others who cannot afford expensive medical care. I would help many people and their families by becoming a doctor. The joy and inner calm that come from rescuing lives transcends all other emotions.

People claim that the only other being capable of miracles after God is a doctor. Being a doctor is a lifetime achievement. By providing patients with medical care and treatment, a doctor relieves other people's pain and suffering. People who practise medicine bring joy to a lot of patients and their families. Not only is becoming a doctor a fantastic job choice, but it also brings inner satisfaction and fulfilment.

In his piece published by The Atlantic, Brooks questioned the concept of equivalence between having your dream job and being happy at work. Essay Prompts About Dream Jobs

Here are some essay prompts about the topic that might assist you in composing your piece.

Essays About Dream Jobs: What is your dream job?

You might be the one who was able to pursue the career you’ve been aiming for your whole life or the one who held it off either because of personal priorities or several other factors. In your essay, share what you aspired to become when you were young and try to look back on when you realized it. Finally, discuss how it influenced your life as you grew older.

You’ve managed to land your dream job and want to share the things you’ve learned to the new or up-and-coming graduates. Share the actions you undertook to increase their chances of joining you in the field. Did you build your network by attending conferences and talks, or by excelling during your internship? Talk about the attributes they should be looking for in a company, and consequently, what information should they include in their resume if they plan to apply. You can also include how to negotiate for the right compensation. Create a step-by-step instruction in essay form.

There are many reasons for a person to consider not pursuing their dream job. Is it because of financial constraints? Is it because of social and environmental factors? Ask yourself why some people stray off course in pursuing their passion. Discuss these challenges and obstacles and put in your two cents on how they’ll be able to overcome it.

If you’re stuck picking an essay topic, check out our guide on how to write essays about depression .

You pursued your dream job because you wanted to achieve something in the field. For example, did you become a doctor to be the first to cure cancer, or perhaps a lawyer who wanted to champion the poor? Talk about your primary motivation in getting your dream job and trying to insert what the future of your industry holds.

Trace your steps from when you’ve decided to go for your dream job. Write an essay sharing how your parents took this information. Did they support you or receive pushback? Share what you felt the first time you took a step into college surrounded by colleagues with the same aspirations. Was the competition friendly or fierce? Additionally, try to weigh the efficacy of joining a study group or studying alone.

If there are any, go through the time when you encountered pressure from family or peers and share a lesson or two on how to control those moments of hesitation.

Consider writing an argumentative essay based on this dilemma. For example, try to talk to people who have chosen passion over money and vice-versa and dive into their level of contentment. Were they happy with the choice they made? Were there moments of regret, and would you have chosen differently? By the end, assess your situation and decide where you’ll stand if you were given this option.

Editor’s Note: We know that many of you are looking for help writing travel experience essays for school or simply writing about a trip for your friends or family. To inspire you and help you write your next trip essay—whether it’s an essay about a trip with family or simply a way to remember your best trip ever (so far)—we enlisted the help of Professor Kathleen Boardman, whose decades of teaching have helped many college students learn the fine art of autobiography and life writing. Here’s advice on how to turn a simple “my best trip” essay into a story that will inspire others to explore the world.

Welcome home! Now that you’re back from your trip, you’d like to share it with others in a travel essay. You’re a good writer and a good editor of your work, but you’ve never tried travel writing before. As your potential reader, I have some advice and some requests for you as you write your travel experience essay.

Trip Essays: What to Avoid

Please don’t tell me everything about your trip. I don’t want to know your travel schedule or the names of all the castles or restaurants you visited. I don’t care about the plane trip that got you there (unless, of course, that trip is the story).

I have a friend who, when I return from a trip, never asks me, “How was your trip?” She knows that I would give her a long, rambling answer: “… and then … and then … and then.” So instead, she says, “Tell me about one thing that really stood out for you.” That’s what I’d like you to do in this travel essay you’re writing.

The Power of Compelling Scenes

One or two “snapshots” are enough—but make them great. Many good writers jump right into the middle of their account with a vivid written “snapshot” of an important scene. Then, having aroused their readers’ interest or curiosity, they fill in the story or background. I think this technique works great for travel writing; at least, I would rather enjoy a vivid snapshot than read through a day-to-day summary of somebody’s travel journal.

Write About a Trip Using Vivid Descriptions

Take your time. Tell a story. So what if you saw things that were “incredible,” did things that were “amazing,” observed actions that you thought “weird”? These words don’t mean anything to me unless you show me, in a story or a vivid description, the experience that made you want to use those adjectives.

I’d like to see the place, the people, or the journey through your eyes, not someone else’s. Please don’t rewrite someone else’s account of visiting the place. Please don’t try to imitate a travel guide or travelogue or someone’s blog or Facebook entry. You are not writing a real travel essay unless you are describing, as clearly and honestly as possible, yourself in the place you visited. What did you see, hear, taste, say? Don’t worry if your “take” on your experience doesn’t match what everyone else says about it. (I’ve already read what THEY have to say.)

The Importance of Self-Editing Your Trip Essay

Don’t give me your first draft to read. Instead, set it aside and then reread it. Reread it again. Where might I need more explanation? What parts of your account are likely to confuse me? (After all, I wasn’t there.) Where might you be wasting my time by repeating or rambling on about something you’ve already told me?

Make me feel, make me laugh, help me learn something. But don’t overdo it: Please don’t preach to me about broadening my horizons or understanding other cultures. Instead, let me in on your feelings, your change of heart and mind, even your fear and uncertainty, as you confronted something you’d never experienced before. If you can, surprise me with something I didn’t know or couldn’t have suspected.

You Can Do It: Turning Your Trip into a Great Travel Experience Essay

I hope you will take yourself seriously as a traveler and as a writer. Through what—and how—you write about just a small portion of your travel experience, show me that you are an interesting, thoughtful, observant person. I will come back to you, begging for more of your travel essays.

10 Dream Jobs For People Who Love To Travel, Revealed

From flight attendants to cruises, digital nomads to drivers, these are the best jobs for those with wanderlust.

The world has become smaller over the last few decades as international communication has become easier, and is available in more countries than ever. However, this same world that's gotten smaller has also opened up to the many people who enjoy traveling and want to experience the vastly different locations, cultures, and people that call this planet their home. Today, more than ever before, careers are available for those who wish to travel. Traveling doesn't have to be something you plan once a year when you get your annual vacation days from your employer. Traveling can be something you experience every day.

RELATED:  10 Air Travel Secrets Only Flight Attendants Know

10 10. Flight Attendant

When most people are asked to think of a career which would not only allow but also require them to travel, they think of a flight attendant. You could stick to regional flights, where you stay relatively close to home and attend flights that will allow you to be home a few nights a week. However, if you'd love to visit other countries, you can also apply for a role as a flight attendant on international flights. Some airlines offer more international flights than domestic so the company you choose should be able to offer you the type of travel you are looking for. Also, many flight attendants can fly free through the airline they work for when not working, so you can easily take a vacation anywhere that airline travels.

9 9. Cruise Ship Career

Similar to working as a flight attendant, those who work on a cruise ship will travel to any of the locations the cruise ship is scheduled to visit. While you would most likely have to be onboard the ship or helping those who have signed up for shore excursions at most ports, most of those who work on a cruise ship can be scheduled for a day off when the ship will dock. This way, you can go ashore and participate in the excursions or just experience that location the way the locals do. Cruise ships hire entertainment personnel such as casino dealers and bartenders, but also retail employees for the many shops on board, or even cooks and waitstaff for each of the restaurants.

8 8. TEFL Teacher

A TEFL teacher focuses on Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Of course, many countries already speak English as the primary language, but more of them do not. China is a popular destination for many English teachers as are many other Asian countries. However, with a little research, you will probably find someone hiring a TEFL teacher in any country you'd want to travel to.

RELATED:  10 Budget-Friendly Destinations In Asia

You'd need a passport and visa, as well as a TEFL certification for most positions. Most positions you find will also require a contract to teach for either a semester or a full year. This means that after your contract is up, you can sign a contract with a new school or agency in another city or country, allowing you to travel.

7 7. Traveling Nurse

Most traveling nurses have a specialty that is important and highly sought after, but not always needed at every hospital. For example, some nurses that have focused experience with contagious diseases and the prevention of spreading may need to travel to a part of the country or the world that is facing an epidemic. While this not only allows you to travel and experience other cultures, it also puts you right where you are needed as a nurse with your experience. If you are already a nurse, whether you have specialized training or not, there are many countries that are suffering a shortage of nurses.

6 6. Travel Agent

When it became popular for travels to book their flights and accommodations online instead of going through a travel agent, most travel agents didn't see a lot of work. However, things are changing. Busy parents won't be able to sit at the computer and decide whether they want to go to Disneyland or Disney World, and which hotel to stay in, and all the activities they want to do with their kids. Most parents only want to enjoy the vacation and not stress about planning it. That's where a travel agent comes in. Travel agents also need to be well-traveled themselves, able to share personal stories of different cruises, cities, hotels, etc.

5 5. Tour Guide

Have you always wanted to visit Paris? Why not find a position with a tour guide company in Paris that will teach you about the history and culture you will be conveying to other travelers. Then, you can share all that you love about the city of Paris with others who came to visit as well. You can choose to be a tour guide in many different cities, from London to Barcelona, Rome to New York City. After being a tour guide in one location for a while, feel free to move on to another city that you'd love to experience.

4 4. Truck Driver

Truck driving is typically an American job, as much of the country's commerce and agriculture revolves around it. A truck driver can be local, meaning they stay within their city and cities close to it, or regional. Regional truck drivers can travel to a city in one day, stay overnight, and then travel back the next.

RELATED:  10 Stops On The Great American Rock and Roll Road Trip

These types of truck drivers don't travel very far from home. Over-the-road, or OTR, truckers can be on the east coast one week, the west the next, and then in Canada after that. This allows the driver to see much of North America and get paid for every mile. It is becoming more common for couples to drive across the country whether only one person is a driver or they both are and they share the responsibility.

3 3. Au Pair

An au pair is very common in Europe which makes it the perfect job for someone who would love to experience the European continent and also love children. Parents can hire an au pair to help care for the children physically with meals, baths, exercise, etc. An au pair may also be asked to provide transportation for the children, help with homework, and other tasks. In exchange for all this help with the children, the au pair will be provided room and board, and some families will also offer a stipend on top of those expenses. When the family travels, the au pair will usually accompany them to help with the children.

2 2. Digital Nomad

The term "digital nomad" is very new, and as you can imagine from the name, revolves around the ever-increasingly technology-filled world we live in. Those who work as freelancers remotely, such as writers and editors or even marketing managers, work digitally and are free to roam the world. Other digital nomads include travel photographers, consultants, and others who can do their work from anywhere they have an internet connection. Millennials are quickly grabbing hold of this lifestyle and while these aren't typical careers you'd expect someone to jump into after college, it is leading to a very culturally-aware generation.

1 1. Peace Corps Or Red Cross Volunteer

While volunteering for the Peace Corps or the Red Cross, you will often find yourself somewhere in the world where your services are desperately needed, and you know you will have room and board, food, and travel expenses paid for. Volunteers for international agencies such as these can experience many different environments, cultures, languages, and more simply by volunteering their efforts for a certain length of time.

There are a lot of jobs in the society which provides a very good pay scale. Some jobs are Blue collar, and many are white-collar masses like to do according to their choice. Today here I would like to talk about a job which I would love to do in the future because it is my dream job. This job is work in a Google company and the first time I heard about this from my friend she is my best friend, and she worked in Google company from last five years and gave me information about how they treat their work and provides a lot of facilities like good medical facilities and for fitness provide gym membership, as well as they, give some opportunities to travel in other countries so this kind of facilities make this job a dream job for me.

Now I prepare myself to complete my education, and after that, I apply my application form in this company to do work in this because they provide a very good and higher pay scale, which will be useful for me to fulfill my all needs in the future. Yes, I would recommend this job to one of my friends she has very good computer skills, so I recommend her to work in this company because this company has a value of their employees and they provide good facilities which I mentioned earlier. So, this is a job that is now my dream job, but with hard work, I achieve this job in the future.

Bài mẫu Talk about your dream job – Teacher

Describe your dream job You should say: What is it? Where did you hear it from? How long do you want to do it? Would you recommend this job to others?

Well, my dream job is to work as a professor at a University. I have a passion for the teaching profession. So I would like to work there, and I first heard about this job from my cousin, who has been working currently as a professor in a reputed University. She told me about the benefits of getting a job and securing a future there. So it fascinates me alot. I would like to be employed permanently there because I know that there are alot of opportunities when one can enhance his or her experience as well as upgrade his qualification.

So person will not get bored in the company of books as well as meeting new people because University doesn’t mean that one is bound to work round the clock. There are more chances to see cultural activities as well as doing some noble work for the students, and I would like to recommend this job to the persons, who have passion for teaching and who would like to expand their knowledge as well as broaden the horizon of their knowledge.

Bài mẫu Talk about your dream job – Doctor

Describe your dream job that you want to have in the future. You should say: what qualification or experience you would need for this job what the job would involve what the most difficult thing about the job would be and explain why it is your dream job that you want to have in the future.

To tell the truth, I am reasonably happy with my current job, but it never really hurts to think about a “dream job” once in a while, does it?

Anyway, the dream job, I want to have, is the job of a Medical Doctor. Interestingly enough though, when I was a young student, the medical profession never really appealed me, probably because it involved too much study time and very little fun time. Of course, my parents urged me to become a medical doctor at some point of time, when I was a junior college student, but I chose to ignore their suggestion because I rather wanted to be a business administration and management personnel.

So, I eventually finished my MBA before joining a very prestigious multi-national firm in my country. But, anyway, while, so far, I have enjoyed my career as a top manager at a corporation, I feel like I could probably offer a lot more as a doctor to my community. But, of course, it never is an easy proposition because I would have to go back to school again in order to finish at least a 5/6 years of medical school. Then, I would also need to work as a resident or intern for at least a year before qualifying for a medical practice license.

After all, healing sick people and give them a new and healthy life never is an easy job by any stretch imagination. But, above everything else, I think that the most difficult thing about this job would be to remain patient at all times since it is a matter of life and death for a person.

Anyway, I consider this to be my dream job, mainly because perhaps no other jobs in this world draws as much appreciation and gratitude from another fellow human being as the job of a medical doctor. It is my dream job also because it would always allow me to learn new things about human life, the most fascinating subject of all.

Bài mẫu Talk about your dream job – Engineer

Ví dụ thẻ bài mẫu:

Describe a job you dream to have in the future. You should say: what the job is what responsibilities it has what you like about this job and explain why this is your dream job.

Everyone has a dream to be something in future and accordingly I also own such a dream. I want to be an aeronautical engineer and serve at any noted airline company after completing my graduation. In fact, this is the job that I have been dreaming for a long time.

I might clear the issue here in brief. Aeronautical engineering is the branch of science that deals with the engineering aspects of air vehicles mostly. This is a subject that teaches some specific knowledge of engineering and raises skill among the students. As a result, they can be the aeronautical engineer in their profession. The profession is all about dealing with the air vehicles and their maintenance. But it is not possible for any individual who lacks knowledge on the issue. Rather this is the profession for some skilled people who own the specific knowledge about aeronautics and the aeronautical industry.

The major responsibilities of an aeronautical engineer are wide. First of all, the engineer is responsible for maintaining the air vehicle. The position is also responsible for overall checking of a flight including the pre and after flights stages. Besides, the aeronautical engineer also plays the role of supervising any of the repairing activities of the air plane or any other air vehicle. This job is almost similar to the job of a car mechanic but there are some differences. To be a car mechanic, any individual does not need to study hard. This is a branch of science and you need to have more knowledge and skills over the issue of aeronautics. Anyone can be a troubleshooter for vehicles but it is completely opposite in the case of aeronautical engineering. The engineers are to take part in flight tests, analyse the oil pressure, maximum altitude limit for the air vehicle and more other matters at a time.

The responsibilities of an aeronautical engineer are not limited. Rather they always need to remain busy. They become busy most before a flight takes off. I like this part of the job most for some reasons. Besides, checking the airship in technical aspects is the other interesting thing for me. The remuneration for the job is also smart and helps to lead a very decent life with family. The engineers also get some special facilities which are not available in the ordinary jobs. But there are some risks found in this job as well. An aeronautical engineer is deployed to check the overall conditions of an aircraft. If the engineer cannot figure out any trouble during his routine check, and trouble occurs during the flight on the sky, there might be some serious consequences. Hence, they need to be aware of the issues and complete their tasks in a perfect manner.

This is a dream job for me. I have always wanted to fly like a bird and when I saw the aeroplanes in the sky, I felt something strange inside my mind. Gradually, I discovered a weakness of mine on flying and wanted to be a pilot. But later, changed my mind and decided to be an aeronautical engineer. The pilots are unaware of the mechanisms about an aeroplane while the aeronautical engineers are the people who can even make an airplane. This was the part that helped to change my mind towards aeronautical engineer. Since then, I have been dreaming of being an aeronautical engineer at any major airline company.
