Bad Bunny Just Announced The “World’s Hottest Tour”

Literally, he called it “World’s Hottest Tour.”

If you didn’t get tickets to Bad Bunny’s upcoming El Último Tour del Mundo , don’t worry. You’ll have another chance to see him in concert soon. On Monday, Jan. 24, the singer announced he’s embarking on his first-ever stadium tour, titled Bad Bunny: World’s Hottest Tour , later this year. This means he has not one but two tours scheduled in 2022.

Bad Bunny announced his latest tour just weeks before embarking on El Último Tour del Mundo , which kicks off in Denver on Feb. 9 and ends in Miami on April 3. This tour went on sale last April. Billboard reports Bad Bunny sold 480,000 tickets in less than a week . According to a press release from Live Nation, this makes El Último Tour del Mundo the fastest-selling tour on Ticketmaster since 2018.

As for his second tour of the year, Bad Bunny will perform in various cities across the United States and Latin America. So if you’ve been eager to see him perform live on tour, now’s your chance to get tickets. Here’s everything you need to know about Bad Bunny’s 2022 World’s Hottest Tour before it arrives.

Bad Bunny's Most Wanted Tour: Everything to Know

Bad Bunny

Get all the details on the Puerto Rican superstar's fifth concert tour, including the dates and setlist.

Bad Bunny  has officially kicked off his highly anticipated Most Wanted Tour!

The 29-year-old Puerto Rican superstar launched his fifth concert tour on Feb. 21 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and on Saturday, he took over San Francisco's Chase Center for his second sold-out show at the venue.

ET was on hand for the concert, which was a departure from his 2022 record-breaking tour,  El Último Tour del Mundo . Unlike the last tour -- which amassed over $435 million, according to  Billboard ,  and featured more upbeat party hits -- Bad Bunny fully embraces his "King of Latin Trap" title as he returns to his trap music roots by performing songs from his latest album,  Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana.

Bad Bunny's concert was full of surprises from start to finish. In addition to the updated setlist, the show features three different stages (including a floating catwalk), a full orchestra, inclusive choreography, a ton of pyrotechnics, incredible light shows, and even a real-life horse.

During the second act of the show, Bad Bunny makes his way to one of the stages on horseback as part of the tour's Wild West theme. In fact, PETA recently slammed the musician for the concert stunt, telling Newsweek ,  "Horses are extremely skittish individuals, and they're not props to be ridden across a stage amid flashing lights, booming music and noisy crowds. As they're easily spooked, this could have ended in tragedy, all for an absurd and thoughtless gimmick." The "Where She Goes" rapper has yet to issue a public response.

While the majority of the concert consists of Bad Bunny singing hit after hit, the performer does take a moment during the middle of the show to share his appreciation for his fans.

"I want to thank you for being here tonight once again. San Francisco, thank you for being here. I appreciate it so much," he told the crowd in Spanish, before asking how everybody was feeling.

As the crowd cheered, Bad Bunny continued: "With this place full of so many people, it is impossible for each of you to be feeling good. It's impossible. I am 100 percent sure that perhaps many of you tonight are going through a situation in your lives, a concern, a difficult moment, but either way, you came out... you left your problems outside and are here spending the night with me... Thank you very much. You guys also make me feel better, so thank you."

Bad Bunny has long been open about his mental health struggles , and during his performance on Sunday, he spoke about how some days are harder than others, saying some days he wakes up not wanting to do anything, and other days, he feels like "moving the world."

"It's part of life," he told the audience. "We have those moments where we're not totally OK. It's part of the day-to-day process."

Following his only speech of the night, Bad Bunny transitioned into an acoustic set, accompanied by a piano, before closing out the show with some of his more popular hits, including "Dakiti," "Me Porto Bonito," and "Where She Goes."

The event stated that it would begin at 7pm. It didnt start till almost 9pm. It would be helpful if the start time was more accurate. Overall, it was a good performance. Wish there was some performance before the concert. I did enjoy how the effects were presented, love the bracelets that were on the seats. The surprised guest fantastic. Will I come to another concert of Bad Bunny, probably not for a long time. Hoping that he comes out with more surprises later in the future.

Announcing the new shows via Instagram Reels , Bad Bunny also revealed that a new album is on the way: “While I work on my new album, you can buy tickets for my next tour,” he said. The album will be his first major release since 2020’s El Último Tour Del Mundo .

Bad Bunny to kick off worldwide tour in Salt Lake City Wednesday

bad bunny tour cities

SALT LAKE CITY — While the Utah Jazz are taking advantage of the All-Star break, the Delta Center will come to life Wednesday night as a global superstar kicks off his world tour.

Bad Bunny, a three-time Grammy winner, is set to perform 47 shows in 31 cities across the country over the next three months, starting with a visit to the Beehive State.

The singer, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez, has spent the last three days in the Salt Lake area, rehearsing and making sure everything is ready for his big performance tonight.

It'll be the singer's first visit to the Delta Center, which his team proposed due to Utah's growing Latin community.

When the agent for Bad Bunny began mapping out a world tour, his first call was to the man who helps run live events at the Delta Center, Mark Powell.

"He reached out and said, 'Hey; the secret’s out, Salt Lake is a great Latin X market, and if you have the dates available, we want to come there and rehearse and start the tour,'" Powell explained. "We had the dates because it’s All-Star break for the Jazz and we finalized the deal and yeah, they’ve been loaded in since Sunday.”

Bad Bunny's portfolio has generated nearly 19 billion streams on Spotify and he has a net worth of $50 million. Shy of 30 years old, the superstar also has a YouTube channel with 46 million subscribers and 30 billion video views.

To say the Utah tour date is a big deal is an understatement.

“This is our highest grossing single day concert in the history of the arena," Powell said. "More than U2, more than the Eagles, anybody.”

Last year, the Delta Center hosted four Spanish-speaking artists and this year there will be more than twice that.

“The citizens of Salt Lake are really supporting these shows and they’re coming out and they’re having a great time," Powell reflected. "All of our customer satisfaction surveys are off the charts. It’s just a fun night when we have these shows here in the building.”

Tickets for the highly-anticipated concert start at around $200, and Powell said there are still some available for those who want a last-minute night out.

Bad Bunny starts his Most Wanted Tour in Utah this week. Here’s why.

Why is a worldwide music sensation starting his North American tour this week at Delta Center?

For Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican singer-rapper who’s launching his “Most Wanted Tour” Wednesday night in Salt Lake City — the first of 47 shows in 31 cities — it came down to good timing and the support of Utah’s growing Latino fan base.

Bad Bunny’s show is the “highest grossing single-day concert” in Delta Center’s nearly 33-year history, said Mark Powell, the arena’s senior vice president of events.

As Bad Bunny was planning the tour, Powell said, his agent reached out to Delta Center directly.

“He’d heard this was a great market for Latinx shows,” Powell said.

The numbers back that up, Powell said. For every Delta Center show, he said, the arena conducts a post-concert survey to gauge how positively people feel about a show. “A good [survey] score is usually about 30 to 35,” Powell said. “For all our Latinx shows, we have an average [survey] score of 70, which is just off the charts.”

Powell cited the success Delta Center has had with the Mexican singer-songwriter Carin León, who has played the arena twice in the last two years.

“When Carin León came the first time, it was a very small, independent promoter that was out of Mexico,” Powell said. After the show, Powell said that León “told us … that he’s going to tell all his friends how great a place this is to play.”

Last year, such acts as Banda MS, Christian Nodal and Peso Pluma also played Delta Center. Pluma played his first U.S. arena show here last June, and it sold out in three weeks, Powell said.

Powell said Delta Center has between seven and 10 more shows by Latino artists coming in 2024. Mexican singer Luis Miguel is scheduled to play there on April 28. And the Colombian singer Feid, also known as Ferxxo, is set to perform there May 15 as part of his “Ferxxocalipsis” tour of North America.

In the next few months, other Salt Lake County venues are bringing in such acts as Colombian singer-songwriter Andrés Cepeda, Mexican rock bands Caifanes and Cafe Tacvba, the Mexican singer Xavi, the Mexican grupera trio Los Temerarios and the Mexican rock acts División Minúscula and Jumbo.

“That genre of music is really exploding nationwide, and Salt Lake is no different,” Powell said.

According to a study issued in October by the entertainment data company Luminate and reported in Daily Variety , music in Spanish is now listened to more in the United States than music in any language besides English — and one out of every 13 songs streamed is in Spanish.

A musician making history

Bad Bunny is one of the acts leading that surge — making history, as charted by Billboard , as the first Spanish-language artist to be Spotify’s most globally streamed artist in 2020, a feat he repeated in 2021 and 2022. (It took the cultural juggernaut that is Taylor Swift to knock him out of the top spot last year.)

Bad Bunny’s 2021 “El Último Tour Del Mundo” became the fastest-selling tour since 2018. His 2022 album “Un Verano Sin Ti’' was on the Billboard 200 chart for 13 non consecutive weeks — and went on to win best música urbana album at the 65th Grammy Awards, and was a nominee for album of the year.

Last year, he became the first Spanish-language artist to close out a set at Coachella. Under his given name, Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, he’s also acted in the movies “Bullet Train” with Brad Pitt and “Cassandro” with Gael Garcia Bernal.

His hallmark is a combination of reggaeton and trap that he continues to stand by , tracing back to his Caribbean roots.

That’s the music that Jeff Quispe heard on the radio that got him interested in Bad Bunny. Quispe, who’s from Peru and lives in Utah, said he’s been a fan ever since the artist’s debut album, “X 100pre (Por Siempre),” in 2018.

“In Latin America, we listen to a lot of reggaeton, trap, salsa, bachata,” Quispe said. “X 100pre,” he added, “was more like a trap album instead of reggaeton. I love that album. And then, basically, the rest is history.”

Having Bad Bunny start his tour in Salt Lake City is “a big advantage” for local fans, Quispe said. “I don’t have to travel, like, to Vegas or other places to see him.”

Quispe said he’s seen Bad Bunny live twice before, but he doesn’t have tickets for the show — he wasn’t selected for Ticketmaster’s coveted presale codes, and after that the tickets were too expensive. (Powell said ticket pricing is controlled by the artist.) Quispe said he’s hopeful to snag a ticket somehow.

Ann Clark, 56, has her tickets for Wednesday’s show. Her kids introduced her to Bad Bunny, she said, and she’s been a fan since 2021. She doesn’t speak Spanish, but the language barrier isn’t an issue, she said.

“I can’t understand what he’s singing about, I just like the beat,” she said. “The music appeals to me without even knowing.”

Quispe said that part of Bad Bunny’s legacy is that his fans span the world and over language barriers. It’s a toss-up, he said, whether some fans will pick up on his Spanish slang references.

Abram Spencer, another fan, served a mission in Mexico for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is fluent in Spanish.

“When I first got there, the first thing I heard was Bad Bunny, and I just kind of fell in love with it. It was like a connection,” Spencer said. “So when I got home, I just kind of dug deeper into Bad Bunny and I discovered songs I never heard before that I absolutely love.” What really sticks out for Spencer, he said, is how Bad Bunny can craft songs about heartbreak.

A great place to start

Starting the tour at Delta Center is also a product of fortunate timing, Powell said. The arena’s most prominent tenants, the Utah Jazz, will have a few days off for Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game.

That break, Powell said, is giving Bad Bunny extra time in the arena before Wednesday’s show.

“He immediately knew this would be a great place for him to rehearse the tour before it goes out,” Powell said.

“Bad Bunny, right now, is the No. 1 Latin artist in the world, in my opinion,” Quispe said. “That he’s opening his tour here in Salt Lake City can open the city to other artists to come and maybe do the opening night of their tours here. … It’s difficult for a Latino artist, especially, to get into other markets, so that’s really impressive.”

For the “Most Wanted Tour,” perhaps Bad Bunny’s words put it best: “Nadie sabe lo que va a pasar mañana. No lo dejes escapar. Porque quiz as no lo vuelvas a ver” — or, in English, “No one knows what’s going to happen tomorrow. Don’t let it slip away. ‘Cause you might never see it again.”

(Ricardo Pinzón | Sony Music Colombia) Colombian singer-songwriter Andrés Cepeda is scheduled to perform April 16, 2024 at Metro Music Hall in Salt Lake City.

Besides Bad Bunny’s concert Wednesday at Delta Center, these internationally known Spanish-language musical artists are scheduled to come through Utah in the next few months:

División Minúscula and Jumbo • Mexican rock bands, April 25, The Depot.

Bad Bunny Has It All—And That’s the Problem

The Puerto Rican superstar is known for his anthems of community. His latest tour is about his own isolation.

A black-and-white photo of Bad Bunny standing alone onstage in a suit and backward cap

Near the end of Bad Bunny’s 2022 World’s Hottest Tour in Las Vegas, all the lights went out. The Puerto Rican singer and rapper filled the darkness before the song “ El Apagón ” with a six-minute speech in Spanish about what makes his home island bien cabrón —“really fucking awesome.” He highlighted not only Puerto Rico’s beauty but also its resilience in the face of immense challenges: corrupt governance, poor electricity and water access, a hurricane only five years after the devastation of Hurricane María . Although “it is always becoming harder for Puerto Ricans to live on the island,” he said, their strong sense of kinship saves them: “The leaders are the people, who always help one another.”

His speech soon turned into a lament twinged with guilt. “Sometimes I see comments that are like, ‘Where is Bad Bunny?’” he told the stadium. “I’m here, in Las Vegas. This is my job.” The price of fame, he went on to suggest, was a type of exile—work that he cherished but that kept him from the island and people he loved.

Community has long been central to Bad Bunny’s work. The Latin-trap superstar, who has set Spotify streaming records and repeatedly topped the Billboard 200 chart, seldom introduces himself without mentioning where he comes from (accepting the 2022 Video Music Awards Artist of the Year trophy, he declared, “I’m Benito Antonio Martínez, from Puerto Rico to the world!”). He famously resists singing or giving interviews in English. Many of his songs contribute to a long Caribbean musical tradition of rebellion against colonialism . Meanwhile, others form an archive of place; the mountains, rivers, and beaches of Puerto Rico seep into numerous perreo anthems. “This is my beach / This is my sun / This is my land / This is me,” ends the house track “El Apagón,” signaling an understanding of Caribbean people as inextricable from the islands themselves. Bad Bunny’s latest tour and album, however, mark a spiritual departure for the artist, finding him retreating inward to wrestle with cynicism and isolation at the top of the world.

The ongoing Most Wanted Tour, which began in late February, is less of a communal celebration and more of a solo rodeo. I don’t mean this only metaphorically: Midway through the Barclays Center concert I attended this month in Brooklyn, Bad Bunny appeared onstage atop a real, live horse. In the lead-up to this entrance, the stadium darkened as a three-minute video played on-screen, revealing a desert landscape of desolate sepia tones. “They tell me Jesus was in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights,” the singer growled in Spanish. “I’ve lost count of the years I’ve spent between sand and cactus.” In the video, a masked Bad Bunny, encased in a buckskin jacket, rode a slow-trotting horse into an apocalyptic sunset. “I remain like this,” Bad Bunny said. “Alone.” (At this point, my friend’s 78-year-old Puerto Rican grandmother, whom I attended the concert with, cried out in concern: “We’re here for you, baby!”)

This new lonely-cowboy persona is in line with the artist’s most recent album, Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana , the 22-song trap opera behind this tour. In it, Bad Bunny explores what it means to be the caballo ganadór , or winning horse—at least that’s what he calls himself in the opening track, “Nadie Sabe,” an orchestral rap that samples trampling hooves. In 2022, he was, by several measures, the top artist in the world. Yet he doesn’t seem convinced that the hype is worth the stress. “Everyone wants to be No. 1,” he raps. “If you want it I’ll give it to you, motherfucker.” What fun is being No. 1 when no one can share it with you?

From the get-go, the new tour has approached listeners from a more standoffish posture. “If you’re not a real fan, don’t come,” read the official ads . Instead of energetic house warming up the audience as happened in 2022, this year’s show opened with the longing strings of a classical orchestra. (My friend’s grandmother: “They’re putting me to sleep!”) The ensemble’s rendition of Charles Aznavour’s French ballad “Hier Encore”—which Bad Bunny’s “Monaco” samples—set an early tone for the evening of nostalgia, as if happier days existed largely in the past.

Visually, the Most Wanted Tour was also decidedly placeless, leaning into minimalism and abstraction. At the World’s Hottest Tour show I attended in Las Vegas, the vibe was “beach party”: Bad Bunny appeared in an array of joyful pastels. Dancers in bikinis and denim shorts freestyled under string lights. Visuals showed cartoon dolphins swimming toward island oases. I remember feeling shocked when I left the stadium and stepped into the Mojave Desert’s hot and twisting air. The concert had felt like a portal home to the Dominican Republic, ready to rival JetBlue. I could almost feel the cool shine of the sea melting over my feet.

Yet this time around, tropical maximalism was replaced by nondescript, arid visuals and monochrome Yeezy-style fashions. The dancers, dressed in all-black hoodies or chaps, appeared sparingly. Most often, Bad Bunny was onstage by himself, hopping from one end to another while performing trap bops in burgundy cowboy gear.

For much of the performance, he also sported a Spider-Man-style mask or a studded nun’s habit (à la the Virgin Mary )—a tongue-in-cheek choice for a singer frequently criticized for his lewd lyrics. His hidden face added a layer of distance between him and the audience, seemingly signaling how much access to him we should really get to have. Bad Bunny has rebuked the parasocial aspects of fame, including people’s entitlement to his personal space. Throughout the Nadie Sabe album, he makes several references to a much-reported instance in which, during a vacation in the Dominican Republic, he threw a fan’s phone into some bushes after she photographed him without his consent.

Yet despite the lingering specter of celebrity’s dark side, the show’s final act still managed to conjure a wider sense of connection within the audience. Bad Bunny ended with a slew of his reggaeton hits, old and new, and segued into his song “Tití Me Preguntó” with a roll call of places— asking where, among other groups, his Ecuadorians, Mexicans, Dominicans, and Puerto Ricans were at. With each mention, the stadium erupted into ecstatic screams of recognition. Flags rippled; decibels flared. The rare roar of a crowd of Dominicans, all in one place in the U.S., immediately brought tears to my eyes. Once the song started, we screamed back his lyrics about bringing a roster of girlfriends to his VIP table. We in the audience were there, together. Meanwhile, Bad Bunny looped the stage, alone again.

Review: Bad Bunny the bandido lights up the Wells Fargo Center on his ‘Most Wanted Tour’

Bad Bunny came to South Philly on Friday night for a sold-out show at the Wells Fargo Center.

It was the first time in Philadelphia for the Puerto Rican rapper, singer and influential cultural force — who was born Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio — since he headlined the Made in America festival in 2022.

The stop on his Most Wanted Tour was in support of his 2023 album Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana — which translates from Spanish to English as Nobody Knows What Is Going to Happen Tomorrow — and a thumping, infectious celebration of Latino pride.

The Inquirer’s Rosa Cartagena and Dan DeLuca went to the show. Here’s their review.

Dan DeLuca: Good morning after Bad Bunny, Rosa. We saw Bad Bunny take the stage following an overture by the Philharmonic Orchestra Project (led by Grammy-winning conductor Carlitos Lopez), ride a horse, and entertain fans while looking down on them from a floating skybridge. How’d you like it? What were the highlights for you?

Rosa Cartagena: I am still so pumped. Sore, but energized. Bad Bunny is one of the artists who has defined my 20s. He’s delivered so much incredible music that has catapulted reggaeton, Latin trap, and Spanish-language music overall to a completely new level — all while simultaneously shining a spotlight on Puerto Rico’s political problems and resilience. My family and I love Bad Bunny and we have so much fun listening to him together, so what I was really excited to see was how the crowd reflected that, too: There were so many intergenerational families (including at least one abuela!) and it warmed my heart.

Inside the arena, the biggest highlight for me was his Latin trap section. Nadie Sabe was a great album, but I desperately wanted to hear such tracks as “Tú No Metes Cabra,” “Chambea,” and “Soy Peor.” I wish he performed more than snippets but I’ll take what I can get. He was his flirty, funny self — blowing kisses, waving, and winking at the crowd. The floating stage brought him closer to the fans at all seating levels and he had me tearing up at one moment when the lights went on and showed so many Puerto Rican flags, and he simply, quietly, soaked it all in from his perch.

Despite being a fan since the mix-tape days, I hadn’t seen him live before, but you’ve seen him a few times in Philly, right? How did this show compare?

D.D.: I’ve only seen him once before, actually. When he headlined Made in America in 2022, in the closing night show that, if the festival, which is canceled again this year, never comes back will go down as the last-ever MIA performance.

I enjoyed this more. What was cool about that MIA show was how he transformed the grounds into a Latinx dance party, making Jay-Z’s festival over in his own image and language. This was a really smartly staged arena show with top-shelf production — though the relationship between Bad Bunny and the audience is still what makes it special.

He did a lot of standing there and soaking in the adulation — it was a bit Evita -ish when he was on the floating stage, looking down on his people from the balcony. But who can blame him? The passion and appreciation for the ways he’s represented Latino culture and refused to compromise or cross over by rapping or singing in English is real. His audience loves him for it, as well they should.

Yeah, the Latin trap section was impressive. I could feel the bass coming up through the soles of my shoes.

Let’s talk about the staging. The orchestral introduction was classy, and created an Ennio Morricone Spaghetti Western vibe, fitting with the outlaw imagery of Nadie Sabe . A friend of mine on Facebook who’s also a non-Spanish speaker compared it to watching an Italian opera. You can be swept up by the emotion of the music, and the contours of the story reveal themselves.

R.C.: The orchestra definitely brought a level of class to the crowd ready for perreo — and that kind of genre-mashing surprise is part of why people love his sound. I see the bandido theme here almost in between Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter (which came out five months after Nadie Sabe ) and Taylor Swift’s brand-new The Tortured Poets Department , because it’s both bad boy and sad boy. (And unlike Beyoncé's country, he leans hard into Tex-Mex vaquero culture with a bolo tie and his mariachi-inspired outfit.)

But the resonance isn’t just contemporary. He also spotlights Puerto Rican folkloric music, like bringing plena performers to last year’s Grammys. Before he arrived onstage, the orchestra played an instrumental rendition of the iconic bolero by La Lupe, “Qué Te Pedi,” a beloved song that cuts across generations, proving what I heard from so many fans last night: He hasn’t forgotten his roots. It was also refreshing to hear his intimate, pared-down acoustic section, when he sat on the piano and crooned while holding a horse plushie.

D.D.: The piano section was sweet. Sitting on it, sort of like Michelle Pfeiffer in The Fabulous Baker Boys . It was impressive that he could pull off a cocktail lounge vibe in a massive arena. And before “Qué Te Pedi,” the intro music was Billie Holiday’s “I’ll Look Around.” Mood music of the highest order.

The filmed interlude of a masked man riding across the desert was like Clint Eastwood in a Sergeo Leone movie crossed with Max von Sydow in The Seventh Seal . But when Bad Bunny actually rode in on a horse it was anticlimactic, a brief video screen talking point. And I was glad it was short, though: I was worried the poor horse was going to freak out in a room with 20,000 people!

The setup with two stages, plus the floating sky bridge — that worked really well. And the lights were spectacular. It seemed almost everybody was wearing the light-up Bad Bunny boot necklaces synced to turn the room green or red, in rhythm with the music. The only show I’ve seen that used that trick so well was the Weeknd at the Linc a couple of summers ago.

R.C.: Breathtaking, for sure. The orb lights were versatile and dynamic, at one point making a bridge (like our own Benjamin Franklin). He threw down. The only thing Philly fans might have missed was “Acho PR,” the track where he shouts out Bryce Harper and the Phillies .

Bad Bunny brought a live horse, an orchestra and Puerto Rican pride to Austin concert

There was a live horse.

Friday night at the Moody Center, reggaetón idol and fashion trendsetter Bad Bunny switched sides and costumes. Earlier he donned a suit and wig under an L.A. Dodgers cap, then he rocked a tan jacket with frills. In between, a soliloquy about taking the road less traveled via pre-recorded video.

In it, Bunny crossed the dessert on a horse with the self-serious swagger of a cologne ad.

“No one else dares to take this path,” he narrated on-screen in Spanish.

Then, for about 15 seconds, he walked into the arena on a brown horse, gave it a pat, and we never saw it again. For one of the world’s mightiest rock stars, it was the most over-the-top flourish in a night filled with them.

A full orchestra; 20 back-up dancers; a rotating cat walk; 10 to 15 minutes of just posing on said cat walk to breathe in the idol worship while giving back brooding stares; barroom singalongs of sweeping breakup ballads like “un x100to” performed while lounging on top of a grand piano; the audacity to not book an opener; the bravado to leave out song of the summer 2022, “Callaita,” which was in a beer commercial, from the set list. And like Leo Messi, the rock star born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio never bothered to address his adoring English-speaking public in anything other than his native Spanish.

He’d ask where all the Latinas in Austin, Texas were at to get screams, sure, but also offer affirmations about identity and self-actualization.

“What we can’t control is what people will say about us,” he’d say, later shouting out how special it was to see Puerto Rican flags from fans. (I counted more than 10 large ones stretched out by patrons, including a giant flag draped over the mezzanine wall like a soccer match.) In his pep talk, Bad Bunny was alluding to being a tabloid regular—he split with Kendall Jenner in December—but also seemingly shouting out what it’s like to be a Latinx person in the U.S.

And the Spanish-first community was proudly about town. Selling $10 cowboy hats; enjoying hot dogs with a million toppings, fresh off a street griddle; even third- and fourth-generation Texans seemed excited to tap into the fashion and swagger of Mexican uncles at a child’s birthday party on Bad Bunny night.

You forget that Bad Bunny is an idea and lifestyle, too. Locally, dance clubs like Mala Vida are molded in his neon image. In South Austin, the same operating group’s Gabrielas restaurant has a permanent Bad Bunny throne that diners can snap photos on. He’s emboldened the community with a zest for gender-neutral brightness so undeniably appealing that Mark Zuckerberg is now wearing gold chains and letting his curls flex.

Between bangers at the Moody, he told us to seek out “people who love you and support you.” The dude projects a lot, defiantly adding banter like “people tell me things every day, but I’m sure of who I am.”

More from the Statesman: In Montopolis, a constant battle to preserve Austin's historic Mexican cemeteries

Were his gradient lights hypnotic? Was the cowboy boot necklace we all got at the door, that synced to the lightshow Coldplay and Taylor Swift-style, a lovely souvenir? Were his vocals muffled and mixed to overpowering degrees so that at times you heard him echo twice as loud as the accompanying beat? Absolutely and of course.

Structurally, this Most Wanted Tour is a celebration of October’s “Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va Pasar Mañana” record, a more somber and rap-centric offering relative to 2022’s relentlessly romantic party masterpiece “Un Verano Sin Ti.” The former is almost a Rick Ross album, rich with thumping beats and strings—mood music for the bosses that makes you want to put a bib on and eat crab.

And so the show began with 10 uncompromising new songs, then revved into a string of party barge standards post-horse: “Yo Perreo Sola,” “La Santa,” “Me Porto Bonito.” Illuminate your reality and proudly let the dog out—he couldn’t be any clearer.

Bad Bunny’s Go-To Accessory Is Right on Trend

Bad Bunny is currently on the road: The Puerto Rican rapper has embarked on his North American “Most Wanted” Tour. Last night, the star made his latest pitstop in Louisville, Kentucky—just two weeks before he will serve as a co-host at this year’s Met Gala in New York City, no less. As usual, Benito couldn’t resist bringing a strong fashion look to the stage. His cool take on suiting up included a fresh accessory that is right on trend.

What is this standout accessory, you may ask? A western-style bolo tie. Styled with a cropped double-breasted blazer and dress pants, Bad Bunny’s tailored look was punctuated by a gold and black bolo tie slipped underneath his white collared shirt. The choice is extremely current—partly because fashion is embracing the western look , and stars like Lana Del Rey and Beyoncé are going country. (Beyoncé has been wearing the jewelry style almost nonstop since she released Cowboy Carter , which saw the superstar step into a new era.)

A sleek bolo tie, however, is nothing new for Bad Bunny. The piece is one of his go-tos; he's been spotted wearing them everywhere from the stage to courtside with ex-girlfriend Kendall Jenner. And we don’t blame him—worn with a crisp collar, a bolo is a cool, fresh alternative to a stuffy traditional tie. Now that two of the world’s biggest superstars—Bunny and Beyoncé— have given them a stamp of approval, something tells us it’s only a matter of time before they become a full-on global trend.
