Disney World Fireworks Cruises: The Ultimate Guide

Looking for a way to celebrate a special occasion with a group? Don’t care to be sandwiched in with thousands of other people to watch the nighttime shows at Magic Kingdom or Epcot? Then a Disney World fireworks cruise is a fantastic option.

Here’s all you need to know about the private specialty fireworks cruises.

In this article

What is a private fireworks cruise?

Private fireworks cruises are essentially a pontoon boat rental with a Disney captain to navigate you and your party to a special spot to watch the nighttime spectaculars at either Magic Kingdom or Epcot.

They are a pay-one-price outing, so if you have a larger group (maximum is 10 guests) they are economical on a per-person basis.

We love using these chartered private specialty cruises to have a relaxing evening after a big park day or to celebrate a successful trip.

Epcot Fireworks Cruise

What to expect on your cruise

Epcot Fireworks cruises set sail from the marina dock at Disney’s Yacht Club. From there, your Disney captain will drive your private group around Crescent Lake for about 45 minutes.

Weather permitting, they typically take you up by Hollywood Studios before making their way back towards Epcot.

Before the fireworks begin, your boat will join the other private charters and dock near the International Gateway at Epcot. You’ll have a prime view for Luminous The Symphony of Us (which is the current fireworks show at Epcot).

When the nighttime spectacular is finished, your captain will drive the boat back to the dock at the Yacht Club.

View cruising on the pontoon boat for the private fireworks cruise

Prices range from $449 to $499 (they vary by date). You’ll need to also factor in tax and a tip for the boat driver.

  • Very good view of the fireworks
  • If you have a big group, the per-person cost is less than other specialty fireworks viewing options
  • Private (except for the Disney captain)
  • Relaxing way to spend an evening
  • Feels like an exclusive, intimate experience
  • If you have a small party, the per-person cost is on the expensive side
  • Weather can influence how enjoyable the experience is
  • The snacks and drinks provided are not very robust
  • If you are prone to motion sickness, a small pontoon may not be the most fun
  • There is limited availability, so booking in advance is important

What is the view like?

The view from the docking station just past the International Gateway bridge is unobstructed. You are close enough to see all the elements of Luminous The Symphony of Us.

The only downside is that if you aren’t in the front row, you may have other boats in front of you, but even when that happens the view is still pretty fantastic.

Where and when do you meet your captain and board the boat?

Arrive at the Yacht Club marina an hour and 15 minutes before the start time of the fireworks.

Empty pontoon boat prepared for fireworks cruise

How long is the cruise?

The cruise, including the actual fireworks, lasts about an hour and 45 minutes.

What are the amenities on board?

Disney provides soft drinks and a few packaged snacks (think cans of Diet Coke and Sprite and a few bags of pretzels or chips).

Banners announcing a birthday or anniversary are available at no extra cost, but you must mention which, if any, you would like when making your reservation.

If you or someone in your party uses a wheelchair or ECV, a transfer is necessary.

Magic Kingdom Fireworks Cruise

Fireworks above Cinderella Castle

Magic Kingdom Fireworks cruises set sail from the marina docks at the Contemporary, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Fort Wilderness, and Wilderness Lodge. From there, your Disney captain will drive your private group around Seven Seas Lagoon or Bay Lake for about 45 minutes.

Before the fireworks begin, your boat will dock and enable the synchronized audio onboard so that you can enjoy Happily Ever After.

When the nighttime spectacular is finished, your captain will drive the boat back to the dock from where you originally boarded.

Contemporary Resort marina

  • Sound of the fireworks is not as loud as seeing the show in the park
  • Can catch a glimpse of the Electrical Water Pageant, as well

Electrical water pageant

  • The projections on the castle are not clearly visible

The view of the fireworks is quite pretty, but the full show loses something without the projections on the castle being fully visible.

Arrive at the marina you were assigned to when you booked an hour and 15 minutes prior to the start time of the fireworks.

Marina at Polynesian Resort

How do you book a Disney World specialty fireworks cruise?

You can begin booking the specialty fireworks cruises up to 60 days in advance by calling (407) WDW-PLAY or (407) 939-7529. Unfortunately, these are not available to book online. Phone lines open at 6 a.m. Eastern time.

With limited availability, booking these as soon as your booking window opens is advisable.

There is a one-day cancellation policy, meaning the full price will be charged/forfeited if you don’t cancel within one-day or are a “no-show.”

Other important details

What can i bring on board.

We suggest bringing your own snacks and drinks on board if you would like more than the standard offerings. You are allowed to bring whatever food and beverage (including alcohol) you would like.

Also, watch the weather and dress appropriately. Remember that it is often chillier out on a boat than in a park. If appropriate, you might want blankets or umbrellas.

What happens if there is bad weather?

The Private Fireworks cruise will still occur in inclement weather , but may be modified or canceled due to extreme weather conditions.

Fireworks at Magic Kingdom or Epcot may be changed or canceled without prior notice due to inclement weather.

Are there restrooms on board?

No, these are pontoon boats. Be sure to use the restroom at the nearby resorts before boarding.

Do you need theme park tickets?

No, theme park admission is not required for this experience.

Is there an alternative on-the-water option?

The Ferrytale Fireworks cruise is an option for those interested in viewing Happily Ever After from the waters surrounding Magic Kingdom. We review our experience on that cruise here: All About the Ferrytale Fireworks cruise . There is not a similar offering for Epcot.

Have you embarked on a private fireworks cruise? Tell us about your experience in the comments below.

love the idea of a fireworks cruise its like vip without the crazy park crowds gotta save up for this one

Hey Jennie, great info on the fireworks cruise. Was wondering, for the Epcot one, is the view really that good from the water? Some pics or a bit more detail would've been super helpful. Planning the trip's been hectic and wanna make sure it's worth the splurge for the family. Thanks!

It’s nice but check if it fits your budget. There are other great spots in Epcot to watch fireworks for free.

Tim R., the view is amazing. It’s a different perspective from the usual crowd experience. Totally worth it for a special occasion!

Disney Cruise Line Emailing Silver Anniversary at Sea Guests with Details on the Fireworks Show

Today, Disney Cruise Line sent emails out to guests to provide an update on the entertainment offerings that are part of the Silver Anniversary at Sea celebration this summer. The core of the communication deals with the fireworks show which is offered “on most” sailings.

DCL Summer 25th Anniversary Fireworks Update

The anniversary offerings across our fleet will provide guests with an opportunity to meet favorite Disney Characters dressed in new, shimmering outfits, enjoy festive décor, limited-time food and beverage and more.

25th Anniversary Fireworks Show

The 25th anniversary fireworks show will be featured on most 4-night or longer sailings visiting The Bahamas, Caribbean and the Mediterranean this summer. Guests on the following Silver Anniversary at Sea itineraries are receiving emails with more information about their sailing’s entertainment offerings.

  • 3-night Silver Anniversary at Sea Sailings aboard the Disney Wish  : The fireworks presentation during 3-night cruises will be our popular Pirate’s Night fireworks, weather permitting.
  • 4-Night Disney Wish Sailing Departing July 3: This sailing will feature two fireworks presentations, weather permitting. Instead of the 25th Anniversary themed fireworks, this sailing will feature our July 4th fireworks and our popular Pirate’s Night fireworks.
  • 4-night Silver Anniversary at Sea Sailings aboard the Disney Wish  Departing June 12, June 26, July 24 and Aug. 7: The fireworks presentation on these sailings will be our popular Pirate’s Night fireworks, weather permitting. Due to the speed and location of the ship on the other evenings, we are unable to present a second set of fireworks.
  • 4-night Silver Anniversary at Sea Sailings aboard the Disney Dream Departing Aug. 26 and Aug. 30: The fireworks presentation on these sailings will be our Silver Anniversary Fireworks at Sea presentation, weather permitting. Due to the speed and location of the ship on the other evenings, we are unable to present a second set of fireworks.
  • Alaska Silver Anniversary at Sea Sailings aboard the Disney Wonder : Fireworks are not offered on Alaskan cruises. During Alaska sailings, Freezing the Night Away with Anna, Elsa, and Friends deck party will be presented instead of pirate night fireworks and 25 anniversary fireworks.
  • Select Disney Dream Silver Anniversary at Sea Sailings: Due to the speed and location of the ship, fireworks are not offered on select European cruises.

According to Disney, guests sailing on Silver Anniversary at Sea Sailings aboard the Disney Fantasy and Disney Magic will not be receiving emails.

Guests are reminded to check the Disney Cruise Line Navigator mobile app once onboard for all shows, activities, and times.

5 Replies to “Disney Cruise Line Emailing Silver Anniversary at Sea Guests with Details on the Fireworks Show”

' src=

“According to Disney, guests sailing on Silver Anniversary at Sea Sailings aboard the Disney Fantasy and Disney Magic will not be receiving emails.”

That’s curious, any reason why? I assume its because most of those sailings can easily get the two shows (I know the Fantasy has already started two shows…).

Here’s hoping. I have a 3 night on the Magic and I don’t expect 2 fireworks shows but I’d rather see the new show once than Pirates again.

' src=

I am also curious about why no notifications on the 7 day cruises as well. Got a first time Disney Cruise on the Fantasy and we’re psyched about the fireworks show. (we love our Disney fireworks in general) and was hoping that we were going to have 2 shows on our trip. I’m hoping that it’s just something simple as they are only emailing upcoming cruises to mitigate any customer service loads contact emails like that can draw out.

' src=

We got the same letter for our WBTA cruise in September. We did the same cruise last year and had fireworks. Not sure what the real issue is but it’s not speed and location as DCL says.

' src=

Just got the email that we get no fireworks for Dream cruise to Italy and Greek Isles. Kind of bummed to not get to see the special show.

' src=

We just got off the Fantasy today. The fireworks were nothing special. They played to the new song and then were done. For merchandise, everything was limited to 2 per guest. They had very limited sizes of the spirit jersey. They also had 0 Fantasy pandora charms. The 25th anniversary trivia was a bust due to crafts going over time and they never repeated it. The See you real soon was also disappointing as they only had a few princesses and the main 8 characters, no one from the shows.

Magic Kingdom and EPCOT Disney Fireworks Cruises

By: Author tanialamb

Posted on Published: January 22, 2024

If you’re looking for something special to do during your Walt Disney World vacation, Disney fireworks cruises may be just what you’re looking for! They’re the perfect way to see Disney fireworks without the crowds, plus you get your own private cruise. Here’s what you need to know about Disney fireworks cruises.

What is a Disney World Fireworks Specialty Cruise?

With a Disney fireworks cruise, you and your friends can rent a private pontoon boat to sail around Disney waters and watch fireworks. You have two choices of fireworks with Disney specialty cruises – Magic Kingdom fireworks or EPCOT fireworks. I’ve done both and they each have their pros and cons.

Your party will have their own chartered boat from either Bay Lake or the World Showcase Lagoon for up to 10 people. Magic Kingdom fireworks are bigger and more dramatic while EPCOT fireworks are more intimate and you get to watch so close to World Showcase.

Guest should arrive 1 hour and 15 minutes before fireworks start. You’ll board the boat and sail around the water for about 45 minutes. Then you’ll park and wait to enjoy the fireworks.

Disney Specialty Cruise View

You’ll also receive complimentary snacks like Mickey Krispy Treats, chips, and bottled drinks.

How Much Do Disney Fireworks Cruise Cost?

Disney Fireworks Cruises start at $449 plus tax. Cost varies depending on the date. More popular times are more expensive.

How Can You Book a Specialty Cruise?

To reserve a cruise, please call (407) WDW-PLAY or (407) 939-7529. Guests under 18 years of age must have parent or guardian permission to call.

Departure Docks

Guests will depart from the docks at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts to experience Luminous The Symphony of Us at EPCOT or sail from the following marinas to view Happily Ever After:

  • Contemporary Marina
  • Polynesian Village Marina
  • Grand Floridian Marina
  • Fort Wilderness Marina
  • Wilderness Lodge Marina

Why Should You Choose a Disney Fireworks Cruise?

Specialty Fireworks cruises off a unique perspective to watch fireworks from the water! They are a great way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or any accomplishment! You have limited guest capacity for an intimate experience. It really makes you feel like a baller and like you’re a VIP.

The Disney magic comes alive by the entertainment and storytelling of each theme park fireworks show. Having a private boat with you and your friends and family just feels super special. Plus the views from the water offer such a unique point of view.

Disney World Fireworks Cruise Review

Are the Disney Specialty Fireworks Cruises Worth It?

At minimum you’ll be spending at least $500-ish for a Disney fireworks cruise. It’s worth it if you are celebrating a special occasion and you have the money. They are a lot of fun! And if you have 10 people, then it makes it even more worth it. If you have a girls’ trip, you can split the cost amongst everybody or even if you’re coming for a runDisney race .

This would also be a fun way to propose to someone on a private boat either alone or with close friends and family.

The biggest con to doing a Magic Kingdom fireworks cruise is you can’t really see the projections on Cinderella Castle. The projections are one of the biggest magical additions to Happily Every After, so that’s kind of a bummer. However, not having to fight crowds on your way out of Magic Kingdom is a big plus. And the view is still gorgeous for the fireworks themselves!

I have done both and enjoyed them both for different reasons. Bigger and better fireworks – Magic Kingdom. More intimate and cozy – EPCOT.

Children under 12 must wear life jackets on board. Also if the weather is cold, our boat had towels and blankets on board. Disney comes prepared! I’d recommend the Disney fireworks cruises to anybody who has the money to spare for a unique experience!

Yes, my husband and I are “on board” with this great opportunity.

I called Disney Reservations and talked to several people. They said the only boat you could get to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the Seven Seas Lagoon would cost $399. The boat would hold up to 10 people. When I told them of the price that was on this site ($99 for adults) they said that was wrong and told me again about the $399 boat. Somebody is not telling the truth.

Hi Andy! There are two different experiences — the private chartered boat is $399 (and is currently available to book), while the Ferrytale Wishes Dessert Cruise is a different experience that will be returning September 18th. This one takes place on a ferry boat with other guests, similar to a dessert party (just on board a boat!).

When I was talking to Disney, I explained the difference to them. They continued to tell me there was no cruise on the Seven Seas lagoon for the price you state, just the $399 boat rental. I may try later and see if they have new information.

They CURRENTLY do not have any cruises available at the $99 price point but will have them come September 18 as the article states

My only question: is there a bathroom on the boat?

Yes there is.

I highly recommend the Ferrytales fireworks cruise for adults – it can be a very romantic way to top off the evening with no crowds. The snacks and desserts are very good, and the beverages are good (and bottomless)! Although you can’t see the castle (and main street) projections, it was fun to be on a boat cruising around.

REVIEW: Disney World’s Ferrytale Fireworks Cruise Is Back, But Is It Worth $100?

By Zac Panza 5 Comments

Ferrytale Fireworks: A Sparkling Dessert Cruise is officially back in Disney World!

do disney cruises have fireworks

Happily Ever After

This experience lets you enjoy Magic Kingdom’s Happily Ever After Fireworks (which will soon be replaced by Disney Enchantment ) on the Seven Seas Lagoon! On its opening night (or reopening night), we went on this dessert cruise to see if it’s as good as we remember and if it’s worth the price.

Admission is $99 for adults and $69 for children ages 3 to 9 (tax and gratuity included).  We checked in for our show at the Ferry Station at the Transportation and Ticket Center . Sailing time will change, of course, as it depends on when the fireworks shows will be scheduled each night. Be sure to pay attention to the information for your particular booking.

do disney cruises have fireworks

When we checked in, we were given a lanyard with the name of the cruise, but there is a special surprise on the back!

do disney cruises have fireworks

It’s almost time!

On the back, there are Mickey lenses that turn the fireworks into Mickey shapes! We’ll get back to this later… .

do disney cruises have fireworks

These make the magic happen!

After checking in, we boarded the General Joe Potter , our ferryboat for the night! Yep, these are the very same ferry boats you’d normally use to shuttle to and from Magic Kingdom and the Transportation and Ticket Center. Tonight, though, it’s your traveling nautical dessert party!

do disney cruises have fireworks

Let’s hop on the boat!

Inside, it was your standard Disney ferry, with mostly standing room and a handful of seats. Basically what you’d find on the ferries during the day en route to and from the park. So be prepared, if you’d prefer to sit while eating your desserts, you’ll have to scope out a traditional ferry bench for a seat. The plus side to being on the ferry is guests with a wheelchair, ECV, or stroller should have no issue boarding the lower level of the boat.

do disney cruises have fireworks

Inside the ferry

One question we had on our nautical adventure was similar to the last time we took this same cruise: after an evening of eating and (more importantly) drinking, where are the…onboard facilities, if you catch our drift. The Joe Potter does have a small restroom on board for cruises like this, so drink up (alcoholic or not!) knowing you’re not without options.

The Hidden Mickey Scavenger Hunt is a great activity for kids to do onboard! Ok, we enjoyed doing it, too… .😊

Guests use a special flashlight to find glowing Hidden Mickeys all over the boat! SO fun!

Early in the evening, the dessert tables were VERY busy with lots of people trying to get sweet treats! As the night continued, things got less busy.  Dessert tables were set up on both the upper and lower decks, so people could spread out and have plenty of access to snacks. However, the bar was only available on the first deck. The only difference we spotted is that the second level had cupcakes and it was the bigger dessert table of the two. So you want booze? Head downstairs. Cupcakes? Head up the stairs. 🙂

Dessert Tables

Let’s take a look at how the treats tasted!

The dessert tables are all self-serve and you can have as many desserts and drinks as you want (within reason)! When we boarded the boat, we were given  Blue Champagne  to kick off the party!

do disney cruises have fireworks

Blue Champagne

There were two featured beverages on this cruise, the Fireworks Punch and the  Liquid Fireworks, both were non-alcoholic.

do disney cruises have fireworks

We tried a few other drinks like the  Fireworks Punch! This was a surprisingly good Disney drink and had a nice tart taste. It is made with Lemonade  and  Pomegranate Monin and was very refreshing.

The other beverage we tried was the Liquid Fireworks! It was sweet and had a nice pineapple flavor. It’s made with Blue Curacao Monin, Pineapple Juice, and Sprite.

You can also sip on wine, beer, and champagne…

Now, jumping into the “dessert” part of this dessert party, we headed over to the buffet tables to scope out what they had to offer. A favorite of ours was the Grand Finale Key Lime Tart! The filling was very good and creamy with that tart bite you expect from key limes. The crust was crumbly and buttery. The buttercream on top was a fun touch too (there are even tiny edible flowers!).

do disney cruises have fireworks

Grand Finale Key Lime Tart

The Red Velvet WOW! Pies were another favorite. These were very messy but delicious! The red velvet flavor was rich and there was plenty of cream cheese filling. You can see from the tongs and plate though that these were very soft, squishy cake on the exterior. Expect messy hands with this one!

do disney cruises have fireworks

Red Velvet WOW! Pies

Next up was the Vanilla Cupcake with Buttercream! This was good, but just a standard cupcake. It might be a good classic for guests or kids who prefer something simple and sweet. It was a very standard Disney World cupcake (nothing wrong with that!).

do disney cruises have fireworks

Our Dessert Spread, which features the Vanilla Cupcake with Buttercream!

Then, there were the Cherry BOOM! Cream Puffs . These were alright, but nothing particularly special. If you’ve had a cream puff before, then you get the general principle behind this dessert. It was a puffed pastry shell filled with vanilla pastry cream crusted in red cherry-flavored sugar. However, instead of being a Cherry BOOM , it was more like a Cherry… boom. It just didn’t have enough filling and the cherry flavor barely there. This was fine for a cream puff though.

do disney cruises have fireworks

Cherry BOOM! Cream Puffs

Next, were the Brownie BURST! Bites . Much like the cupcakes, these were nothing particularly special, but still hit the spot. The colored splatters all over was really fun.

do disney cruises have fireworks

Brownie BURST! Bites

The Popcorn Push Pop looked cute, but it had an artificial fruit flavor to it that we didn’t enjoy. This seemed like the standard Disney rainbow popcorn to us just stuffed in a push pop container. Cute presentation (if not a bit wasteful with all the plastic just to hold a couple kernels of popcorn). This is one of our favorites to look at, but not to eat!

do disney cruises have fireworks

Popcorn Push Pop

If you’re looking for something more savory, there are a variety of crackers …

do disney cruises have fireworks

…and cheese and grapes to snack on.

do disney cruises have fireworks

Assorted Cheese

Another highlight of the night was the Build-Your-Own Chocolate Mousse Explosion ! This was a really cute treat and was a great interactive treat with lots of flavors.

Build-Your-Own Chocolate Mousse Explosion

You can stop by the customization station and add Popping Candy, Chocolate Rocks, and Chocolate Cookie Crumbles Mixed with Honeycomb!  This experience was available on the lower level of the boat.

The customization station!

Finally, the Panna Cotta with Boba Pearls was a creamy, citrusy treat! The boba on top was a nice touch that added an extra layer of texture to the dish. This was one of the prettiest presentations, we thought. Very fancy looking!

do disney cruises have fireworks

Panna Cotta with Boba Pearls

At the end of the cruise, you do a few laps around the lagoon before heading back to the dock. When we left for the night, we were given a parting gift: a Ferrytale Fireworks Cookie!

do disney cruises have fireworks

Ferrytale Fireworks Cookie

The cookie features the logo and was a nice touch to close out the dessert party. If you’ve had a royal icing decorated sugar cookie before, this is just that. It isn’t anything special but it’s thick, sweet, and a nice snack for later on in your evening.

So real quick, we’re gonna compare this to an earlier iteration of this very same cruise (back in the Wishes days!). You can read the full review here , but the big thing we noticed was the shift in food and drinks. Previously, they offered about the same amount of variety, but we appreciated that the treats all felt connected to the surrounding area. There were foods from each hotel on Seven Seas Lagoon, cute Mickey Balloon tarts, a Cinderella slipper, as many Mickey bars as you could eat, and more.

do disney cruises have fireworks

Ferrytale Fireworks Desserts

The food here was no better or worse, just different. Most of the treats were pretty uninspired — a basic brownie, a basic cupcake, etc, BUT some were pretty unique. We really enjoyed the creative interactive portion of the mousse dessert and some, like the panna cotta, were quite pretty. But nothing was a slam dunk, flavor-wise. It was all…OK. Also the takeaway item this time around is just a cookie. That’s fine, but previously it was a fun light-up plastic champagne flute that was really neat to carry around the dark ferry.

do disney cruises have fireworks

Sparkling Wine in Light-Up Souvenir Champagne Flutes

Most people won’t keep those forever, so the cookie kinda makes sense, but it also doesn’t feel as “ooooooh!” as a sparkly light-up glass you get to keep. All this said, one thing that HASN’T changed is the price — it was and remains $100 a person.

The view for the fireworks from the boat is a super unique experience, but things like the projections and Tinker Bell flying were hard to see from this distance. We wouldn’t recommend it if this is your first time seeing the show. However, if you don’t mind not being able to see the projections that well, then you’ll be okay! For something like Enchantment, where all new projections on Main Street, U.S.A. will be a big draw for guests and something cool most haven’t had a chance to see in Disney World, we think this would even more so be a “do it AFTER you’ve seen the show IN the park” type special event.

do disney cruises have fireworks

The audio from the show , which is usually played through speakers on the ferry, was a little bit hard to hear on the boat. However, this seemed like a temporary issue that resolved as the show went on.

Remember those Mickey lenses we were given on our lanyard when we boarded the ship? Well, here’s how they make the fireworks look when you peek through the lenses! A sky full of Mickeys is definitely our version of happily ever after!

do disney cruises have fireworks

Mickey Vision

Also, be sure to stake out a spot to view the fireworks ASAP! we recommend grabbing a plate then cozying up to a railing somewhere to nibble while you wait. If not, you’ll be stuck in the back with a bad view. There was also PhotoPass available before and during the cruise , but it wasn’t included in the price of admission unless you already have Memory Maker .

Nosh or Not

Take a bon voyage on the Ferrytale Dessert Cruise if…

  • You’ve seen the fireworks before! If you’re a seasoned fireworks fan, then you’ll be able to really enjoy this party.
  • You don’t have a park ticket but want to see the fireworks! This is a great way to enjoy the fireworks without a Magic Kingdom ticket. Another option is the dessert party at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
  • You want a dessert party for a lower price! This party has a lower price point than some of the options at Magic Kingdom or Disney’s Contemporary Resort .

Skip the Ferrytale Dessert Cruise if…

  • You want a good view of the fireworks! Although you’ll be able to see the fireworks just fine (and in many ways they’re extra special seeing them from enough of a distance to really take it all in), you won’t be able to see the projections or Tinker Bell well from this angle. It’s also not quite that surround sound immersive experience you feel standing feet from the Castle.
  • You want a more “deluxe” dessert party! This is definitely the least luxurious of the dessert parties we’ve tried at Disney World, with more “fancy” options coming this October .
  • You want room to sit during fireworks! There is very little sitting room at this party, which means you’ll have to stand up for much of the show. This can be especially tricky for little kids or guests with mobility issues.

Was this worth the $100 per person price tag? Well, it depends. If you plan on enjoying a few cocktails, eating plenty of treats, and getting a good spot for fireworks early, you’ll likely get your money’s worth, but temper those expectations. However, if you were looking for a more upscale experience and it’s your first time seeing the fireworks, this might not be the experience for you. If you don’t feel like spending a lot of cash, it might be better to watch the fireworks the old-fashioned way inside the park. If you’re willing to shell out some money, maybe consider splurging on one of the new dessert party experiences coming to Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Contemporary Resort instead. Don’t forget you can easily watch the fireworks (with *roughly* the same view) from the shores of the Grand Floridian or Polynesian Village Resorts and hear the music piped in outside. That cost is FREE (aside from possibly a Dole Whip or Lapu Lapu to snack on while you watch and maybe booking a dinner reservation so you’ll be at the hotel for the fireworks).

The Ferrytale Dessert Cruise had both its hits and misses for us. For the most part, the food was pretty good and the view of the fireworks was great (if you get up to a railing and can see clearly!). However, some of the foods were a bit standard and basic. The drink selection was also tasty but limited. We enjoyed the punches the best and it was nice to have the option to add some rum and make our cocktail.

You’re here to view the fireworks from the unique vantage point of the middle of the lagoon, and it certainly accomplishes that, but you also ARE standing around on a ferry boat the whole time with little sitting room . Compared to other firework parties where you’re at a dedicated location set up for the show, it’s hard to ignore you’re standing on the same ferry boat that was recently shuttling hoards of guests to and fro all day. They do their best with it, but it’s still a chill party on floating Disney transportation. 😂 It’s still quite fun but not as much ambiance as, say, a dedicated viewing area on land could be.

At points during the fireworks show, we found it hard to see (or hear) any other parts of the show besides the fireworks. And you know how much we LOOOOVE the Happily Ever After music! But we’re hoping it was just a technical difficulty on that first cruise. It was also a bit tough to get a good spot to see the fireworks (thankfully, someone was kind enough to share their spot with us). But if you prefer to sit or have tykes with you, you’ll need to stake out a spot well in advance to ensure you have a good view , and in the end, you might find yourself sharing elbow room with your neighbor. When you’re paying $100 bucks a person, you kind of expect you’ll get a great view of the show, but that wasn’t a guarantee here like it practically is at most other firework parties we’ve attended. It also got crowded at the dessert tables at the beginning of the night, so pace yourself or head up to the second level where the large table is stocked.

If you’ve got the cash to blow, we think you’ll enjoy the experience. As for us? We’ve now done this trip multiple times and walked away satisfied enough but not blown away. It’s not a repeat event for us, just like it wasn’t the first go-round (yes, we realize we ended up back here. 6 years had passed — we had to check it out for you!). Compared to the first version of this cruise we experienced, the earlier version gets the edge for us simply because it felt a bit more coherent and planned out. Again, if you’re in the market for a dessert party, this will do fine, but it’s pricey for what it is and there are better options out there. For our money, there’s a lot of better ways to spend $100 in Disney World AND still enjoy the fireworks.

I live in Michigan and we are not annual passholders. We only make it to Disney World about once every 2 or 3 years. I would love to see the Enchantment fireworks. We have never we seen them before. We have a short 4 night trip planned at at the end of Sept. and my hopes of seeing this fireworks show are likely ruined by the Halloween party now being on 2 of the 3 nights we have available. Do you think Ferry Tale fireworks would be a good option for us to try to see them all once, even if from afar? Or should we add on a whole extra park day and go to the MK on a super busy non Halloween party Saturday to try to see the fireworks from in the park? Kids ages 5 and 7. Thanks! I read you said you wouldn’t do this if you haven’t ever seen Enchantment before.

Hi Marie! Generally, on holiday party days such as Halloween, Christmas, etc. Disney will still show the Enchantment fireworks at park close and then later in the evening switch to the holiday fireworks show so you would still have a chance to see them.

We just did this cruise in November 2023. It was our third time doing the same cruise. What a disappointment. First we did not get Mickey landyards. That was exclusive to children, and the 3 adults who asked for them before anyone else could ask. We did not get champagne glasses or a souvenir plate as in years past. The champagne we did get was in a small disposable cup. The desserts were on a small table on the upper deck. Got the feeling of, don’t eat too much because they don’t have enough for everyone. Wine, beer, and liquor were plentiful. Views of fireworks were great. Everyone had a seat. Sound was barely audible. It was a smaller crowd than in years past. Also raining. No covered tables set up as in past. We did not get anything on departure. In the past we got a trading pin or cookie. Also last two times we were given a bus ride back to our resort. This time we were pointed in the direction of the monorail and told to catch something at Magic Kingdom. Party night crowds for that! We were overall very disappointed in the party and will likely not do it again. Same price point. Not a good value unless you can drink a lot and are there for a unique view of the fireworks.

Disney Cruise Pirate Night- Fireworks on Disney Cruise Line Ships

Pirate Night Disney Cruise

Pirate Night is a Pirates themed day on the Disney Cruise Line ships that ends with a spectacular fireworks show! Pirate Night is included on all Disney Cruise ships and is a popular event especially for Pirates of the Caribbean fans.

Pirates Night starts off with Pirates of the Caribbean themed music playing in the ship with Pirate themed character greetings, themed food, games, and of course, the fireworks show. Pirates Night is a fun event for families and many guests get into the spirit with full pirate outfits!

Keep reading for all the details on Pirates Night on the Disney Cruise Line including my recent experience celebrating Pirates Night on the Disney Dream which included special themed characters, a pirate deck show and fireworks! This was a cool event to experience especially to see how dedicated Disney Cruise guests are to celebrating the event.

You can view the currently available dates for Disney Cruise Line in 2024 and 2025 along with full itineraries. After viewing the dates be sure to come back and request a FREE quote from our travel partner for your cruise .  For a limited time Mickey Visit readers get up to a $400 onboard credit.

Disney Cruise Line Pirate Night

Pirate Night includes a pirate-themed dinner, show and deck party, fireworks, plus a variety of pirate inspired experiences throughout the day!

You might even see Disney characters dressed in their best pirate gear. But one highlight for many guests will be the chance to meet Jack Sparrow as he is often a big part of Pirate Night on the Disney Cruise!

Jack Sparrow Disney Cruise priate nite

Each guest receives a party bandana but we saw so many guests decked out in full pirate gear- adults and kids alike! Disney Cruisers go all out for themed events. It had us wishing we had more than just the included bandana but it was still a fun touch.

The Pirate Night fun starts with a family game show in the afternoon and many of the activities at the youth clubs will be pirate themed!

Pirate Night Themed Dining

Dinner in your main dining restaurant for the night will be Pirate themed with all the servers dressed in their pirate best and ready to greet you you in their ‘Pirate' accents.

The themed menu resembles a treasure map and options include the Jolly Rogers Barbecue Rib Salad or Pirates Gold-en Pot Stickers or even Chilled-to-the-Bone Honeydew Melon and Watermelon Soup.

Pirates in the Caribbean Deck Party

The Pirates in the Caribbean deck party will include a dance off and singalong with pirates and interactive games. Kids will love this sing along and we saw families really loving this experience.

Teens might not be as impressed by this show as it definitely felt like it was geared towards children 12 and under. My son was a bit antsy during it and wasn't too impressed. But the show does pick up when Jack Sparrow makes an appearance!

Pirate Night Disney Cruise Jack Sparrow

After Jack Sparrow joins the stage, the show does pick up a bit for adults and teens as this is a fan favorite character with many Disney fans.

Pirate Night Fireworks

The Pirates Night show ends with fireworks above the Disney Cruise line ship. Keep in mind that fireworks are weather permitting and could be postponed or cancelled if there are high winds.

During our Pirate Night, there were high winds and our show still took place which surprised me! I think it takes some serious weather to cancel these events which is great news for fans.

You can see the fireworks well from nearly any vantage point on the top deck but those on the upper most level did have the best view. They were also more exposed to the wind and the preference of many guests was to sit on the deck by the stage.

Pirate’s Rockin’ Parlay Party on the Disney Wish

Pirate Night on the Disney Wish is a bit different than the other Disney Cruise ships! This show on the top deck features live music, stunts, special effects, and other surprises.

This show also features Captain Redd, a descendent of the famous red-headed rogue from the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, and her band of Pirates performing famous radio hits along with a rendition of “Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me).”

This show also ends with a fireworks spectacular over the ship underscored by an original arrangement of the soundtrack from the Pirates of the Caribbean films.

Pirate Party vs. Pirate Night on Disney Cruise

  • Pirate Party does not include free Pirate bandanas
  • Dining rooms keep their standard menus and serving team is dressed in regular clothes for the restaurant

Overall, the experience and show remains the same unless you are sailing on a 3-Day Disney Cruise on the Disney Wish which has a different Pirate Night stage show.

Pirates Night includes a themed Pirate deck show, fireworks, plus pirate activities throughout the day and character greetings.

Once you board the ship and connect to the Disney Cruise wifi for the Disney Cruise Line app, you will see your itinerary for your cruise which will reveal what night Pirate Night is.

Some groups go all out in full Pirate costumes! But all Disney Cruise guests receive a free Pirates theme bandana.

Most Pirate Nights take place starting at 7:30PM on the ship with fireworks at 11:30PM.

Disney Cruise Line Informs Guests About 25th-Anniversary Fireworks Changes

Disney Cruise Silver Anniversary at Sea

Earlier today, Disney Cruise Line emailed guests sailing on Alaskan, European, and Westbound Transatlantic cruises. Guests were informed that there would not be experiencing the 25th-anniversary fireworks.

For many guests, this was not a surprise. Disney does not have the Pirates fireworks show in Alaska or Northern Europe for environmental reasons. Other guests on Bahamian, Mediterranean and Transatlantic cruises were surprised to receive this information.

Disney Cruise Silver Anniversary at Sea New Fireworks Show

The Eastbound Transatlantic cruise that sailed earlier this month did get to experience an abbreviated 25th-anniversary firework show. The show was cut short because a guest entered the restricted area during the fireworks. The fireworks were stopped for safety reasons.

The 25th-anniversary fireworks show will be featured on most 4-night or longer sailings visiting The Bahamas, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean this summer.

11 surprising things you probably didn't know about Disney cruises

  • Disney Cruise Line (DCL) has four ships that run throughout the year.
  • DCL had to get special permission from the US Coast Guard to be able to use yellow lifeboats instead of standard orange ones on its ships.
  • You can complete a 5K race on the cruise ship, or at Disney's private island in the Bahamas.
  • Disney movies debut at sea the same day they premiere in theaters on land.
  • Visit Insider's homepage for more stories .

Insider Today

You may have heard of Disney Cruise Line , or DCL, but you might not know much about the magical trips.

DCL has four ships — the Disney Magic, the Disney Wonder, the Disney Fantasy, and the Disney Dream — and each offers a different experience, though many have some of the same special details and designs.

Here are some interesting things you may not know about Disney cruises.

DCL had to get special permission to use yellow lifeboats on its ships.

do disney cruises have fireworks

DCL was the first cruise line to have lifeboats that are yellow and not the regulated orange color — and it had to get special permission from the US Coast Guard to do so.

The yellow boats are meant to be the same shade as Mickey Mouse's shoes, which keeps the ship's Mickey color scheme — the hull of the ship is black, the superstructure is white, the funnels are red, and the trim is yellow.

You can easily navigate the ship by looking down at your feet.

do disney cruises have fireworks

The hallways on a DCL ship might seem confusing, but no matter where you're going you can direct yourself by looking down at the carpet, since the stars on it always point toward the front of the ship.

On the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, you can also remember what side of the deck your room is on by looking at the clips on the side of your door.

The starboard (right) side rooms have starfish clips and the port (left) side rooms have fish clips.

Minnie Mouse was promoted to Captain Minnie in 2019 as part of a STEM initiative.

Captain Minnie was introduced to DCL in April 2019 because Disney wanted to help inspire the next generation of female leaders in the maritime industry.

The initiative also included the debut of a new youth program where Captain Minnie Mouse helps train young passengers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) skills that are needed for success on an ocean-liner.

Disney has a private island that many of its cruises visit.

do disney cruises have fireworks

Located in the Bahamas, Disney's private island Castaway Cay is on the itinerary for a number of DCL trips.

The island has a beach for families, and it also has an adults-only beach called Serenity Bay, which is tucked away off an old airstrip. This beach has a dedicated lunch spot and bar, too.

While on a Disney cruise, you can run a 5K race.

do disney cruises have fireworks

The race takes place on Castaway Cay, but if a ship doesn't dock there due to weather conditions, the Castaway 5K will typically happen on the ship.

DCL ships have unlimited, free soft-serve ice cream.

do disney cruises have fireworks

Throughout the ship, guests can have unlimited, free ice cream from designated machines.

For those who are willing to spend a few bucks, some of the DCL ships also have specialty gelato shops where you can get themed sundaes.

Cruisegoers can get unlimited Mickey-shaped ice-cream bars delivered to their room for free.

do disney cruises have fireworks

The same Mickey-shaped ice-cream bars that you can get at Disney parks are available on the ships for free, and those onboard a Disney cruise can use the 24-hour room service to order them whenever they like.

Some of the DCL ships play famous Disney songs with their horns.

do disney cruises have fireworks

On both the Disney Fantasy and the Disney Dream, you'll hear quite a few familiar Disney songs when the ship blows its horn.

Song selection is up to the captain and the crew, but some of the songs they can choose from are "When You Wish Upon a Star," "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)," "It's a Small World," "Be Our Guest," and "Do You Want to Build a Snowman."

The cruises use fireworks that are made of "fish food."

do disney cruises have fireworks

DCL claims to be the first cruise line to have fireworks at sea, and its fireworks' shells are actually made of special biodegradable materials, which Disney calls "fish food."

All Disney movies premiere on the ship when they debut in movie theaters on land.

do disney cruises have fireworks

On Disney cruises, new movies typically get a midnight premiere and then have multiple showings in the weeks and months that follow the initial release.

On the ships, iconic Disney characters can be found wearing special outfits each night.

DCL packs a whole new wardrobe for its beloved characters, like Mickey, Donald Duck, and Minnie

During each night of the cruise, Mickey and the gang are dressed in something different, like formal attire, pirate-themed garb, or even the traditional outfits of the place the ship visited that day.

Is a 7-Night Disney Cruise Right for You?

Advantages: who it’s best for.

A 7-night Disney Cruise offers an ideal balance of adventure and relaxation. It’s particularly well-suited for:

  • Multi-generational families seeking quality time together
  • Disney enthusiasts wanting to fully immerse in the magic
  • Couples looking for a romantic getaway with entertainment options
  • Solo travelers eager to explore multiple destinations
  • First-time Disney cruisers wanting a comprehensive cruise experience
  • Food enthusiasts who are excited to try various dining options
  • Those who enjoy a mix of port days and sea days

Disadvantages: Who It Might Not Suit

While 7-night cruises are popular, they may not be ideal for everyone:

  • Travelers with limited vacation time
  • Those on a tight budget (shorter cruises are generally less expensive)
  • People prone to seasickness or claustrophobia
  • Individuals who prefer a more fast-paced, port-intensive itinerary
  • Those who aren’t fans of structured entertainment or cruise ship environments

Is a 7-Night Disney Cruise Too Long?

For most guests, a week-long cruise hits the sweet spot. Here’s why:

  • Ample Time to Unwind : The first day or two allows you to decompress, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the cruise
  • Multiple Port Experiences : Visit 3-4 destinations without feeling rushed
  • Opportunity to Try Everything : From specialty dining to adult-only areas, you can experience it all
  • Better Value : Often more cost-effective per night than shorter cruises
  • Flexible Pace : Enjoy busy days and relaxed ones without missing out

For shorter options, you can consider a 3-night Disney Cruise or a 4-night Disney Cruise . If you want more information about shorter voyages, check out our guide to the Shortest Disney Cruises .

Could a 7-Night Disney Cruise Be Too Short?

For some travelers, even a week might not be enough. Consider a longer cruise if:

  • You’re combining multiple destinations (like Mediterranean and Greek Isles)
  • You want to fully explore each port without feeling rushed
  • You’re traveling from far away and want to maximize your time at sea
  • You enjoy sea days and want more time to relax between port visits
  • You’re celebrating a special occasion and want an extended escape

Remember, the ideal cruise length depends on your personal preferences, budget, and vacation goals. The Vacationeer can help you determine the best option for your needs.

Tips for Making the Most of Your 7-Night Disney Cruise

To maximize your week-long cruise experience, consider these tips:

  • Plan Ahead: Research the ship’s offerings and schedule your must-do activities in advance.
  • Pace Yourself: With seven nights, you can enjoy everything without rushing.
  • Try Different Dining Options: Experience Disney’s rotational dining and perhaps a specialty restaurant.
  • Enjoy Sea Days: Take advantage of onboard activities and amenities during days at sea.
  • Book Popular Activities Early: Reserve specialty dining and popular shore excursions in advance.
  • Participate in Ship Events: Attend shows, deck parties, and other special events throughout the week.

Choosing the Right Stateroom for Your 7-Night Cruise

Your stateroom choice can significantly impact your week-long experience. Disney offers various options to suit different preferences and budgets.

Some passengers prefer to save money on their cruise by booking an inside stateroom instead of an oceanview .

Others want to take advantage of the relaxed pace and enhanced privacy that comes with upgrading from an oceanview cabin to a balcony stateroom .

Or perhaps you want the biggest stateroom possible, given the length of the cruise. Consider a roomy Deluxe Family Stateroom or splurge on a concierge suite !

Disney Cruise Line vs. Carnival: Which family-friendly cruise line should you choose?

Megan duBois

If you're looking for a family-friendly cruise that everyone in your group will enjoy, you might be comparing Disney Cruise Line and Carnival Cruise Line . Both popular cruise companies offer a variety of onboard experiences, top-notch service and lively entertainment that will keep everyone in your family having fun every day.

The two lines offer tricked-out play areas for kids and adults-only sun decks and fun bars for mom and dad. Couples looking for rest and relaxation and seniors wishing to play bingo or sip martinis can find their happy place on either Carnival or Disney.

Both lines have sun-drenched itineraries that take passengers to the Bahamas and Caribbean , with seasonal sailings to the Mediterranean and Alaska .

Still, there are lots of differences between the lines, starting with price. Here, we compare Disney Cruise Line and Carnival to see what they have in common and what they don't, so you can figure out the best cruise for you.

Size of ships

do disney cruises have fireworks

Disney Cruise Line has three classes of ships while Carnival Cruise Line has eight.

The smaller ships on both cruise lines (Disney Cruise Line's Magic class and Carnival Cruise Line's Fantasy and Spirit classes) carry between 2,000 and 3,000 guests.

Carnival's midsize ships include the Conquest, Splendor, Vista and Dream classes that can carry upward of 4,900 guests at full capacity. The midsize ships carry more passengers than Disney Cruise Line's largest ships (the Triton and Dream class), which have a maximum cruise capacity of 4,000 passengers.

Another difference in these two ship sizes is tonnage (essentially, how big the ships are). Carnival's midsize ships range from 110,000 to 130,000 gross registered tonnage. Disney's Dream-class ships are equal to Carnival's larger midsize ships at 130,000 gross tons, while the Triton class is larger at 144,000 gross tons.

Even though Disney's Triton-class ships are bigger than Carnival's Dream-class ships, Disney's ships carry fewer people, even at full capacity. That makes for a higher space-to-guest ratio and a less crowded feeling on board.

Related: Best Carnival cruise ships: Here's which ship you should sail, based on your travel style

Carnival's largest ships can accommodate over 6,400 people at full capacity.

On Carnival's larger Excel-class ships, such as Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration , guests will find an abundance of amenities that aren't available on the smaller and older ships like Carnival Elation. The Excel-class ships have a roller coaster , ropes course and a flex-space theater in the middle of the ship with panoramic views of the ocean. While the party vibe is high on Carnival Elation, Carnival's smallest and oldest ship, the over-the-top amenities just aren't available.

What guests sailing on Carnival will find on every ship in the fleet is restaurants from celebrity chefs like Guy Fieri, fun waterslides, vibrant kids clubs and an adults-only pool area known as Serenity.

Disney Wish , the first ship in Disney Cruise Line's Triton class of ships, feels different from the other four ships in the Disney fleet. While the ship does have a lot of the same amenities, including Disney-themed bars, exciting kids clubs, a slew of restaurants and movie theaters showing first-run movies, Disney Wish has a more upscale vibe than the ships in the Dream or Magic classes.

On the flip side, Disney Wish doesn't have the adults-only district that the other four ships have. On those ships, lounges and bars are clustered together to create a true retreat with nighttime entertainment for adults.

The three ships in Disney's larger Dream- and Triton-class ships feature raft rides, including the AquaMouse on Disney Wish and the AquaDuck on Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. The smaller Disney Magic has a drop slide, called the AquaDunk, that plunges guests down multiple decks. Its sister ship Disney Wonder does not have a major water ride, though it does have a twisting waterslide as part of its kids splash area.

Every ship in the Carnival fleet is a floating resort with outdoor pools, casinos, spas, bars and live entertainment taking place day and night. Disney ships also have that resort feel but without the casino and with more dedicated kids spaces.

One of the biggest differences between Carnival Cruise Line and Disney Cruise Line is the price of a sailing. Carnival is known for its affordable prices and many drive-to departure ports around the U.S. (eliminating the need for the added expense of airfare). Disney's prices are more akin to a luxury vacation.

For example, a weeklong sailing to the Eastern Caribbean in July 2024 starts at $909 for two people in an inside cabin or $1,249 for two people in a balcony cabin on Carnival Cruise Line's Mardi Gras, one of its newest and biggest ships. The same itinerary on Disney Fantasy starts at $5,171 for an inside cabin or $6,445 for a verandah cabin for two people.

In 2024, the starting rate for a three-night Bahamas cruise is $189 per person on Carnival or $618 per person on Disney, both based on double occupancy.

If the price is the determining factor of your vacation, then Carnival is easily the best value for the price. Its ropes course, adults-only sun deck and many of its dining options (including venues linked with celebrity chef Guy Fieri) are included in the fare. Just be sure to watch for added fees that can increase the cost of your cruise, such as drinks packages, specialty dining, shore excursions and roller coaster rides.

For those who have a larger budget, Disney Cruise Line may be a better fit with more-spacious ships, standard cabins created for families and a more upscale feel. Cruise fares include access to first-run Disney, Marvel, Pixar and "Star Wars" movies at the onboard theater, meals in multiple venues (often with dinnertime entertainment), nonalcoholic drinks (including soda) and Disney's high-quality entertainment, from original musicals to deck parties with character performances and fireworks.

Added costs on Disney include tours, alcoholic beverages (Disney doesn't have onboard drinks packages to potentially save you money) and specialty dining in the adults-only restaurants.

Cabins and suites

do disney cruises have fireworks

Both cruise lines offer a wide range of cabin styles in various price ranges for all types of families, including windowless inside, ocean view, verandah (with a private balcony) and suite. Carnival and Disney offer connecting rooms and cabins that can sleep four or more. However, they vary in design and layout, with different specialty cabins and perks for the top categories of accommodations.

Disney Cruise Line is better if you want a cabin with virtually everything your family needs on a cruise. Most of Disney's standard cabins have the cruise line's signature split bathroom (toilet and sink in one room, sink and shower in another), which is helpful for larger families looking to get ready for the day with ease. The cabins also have a large curtain dividing mom and dad's bed from the upper bunk and sleeper sofa the kids are sleeping on. Parents can get a bit more privacy and can keep the lights on after kid bedtime without bothering sleeping children.

Another fun touch: The smaller inside rooms on Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy feature a "magical porthole," a window-shaped LED screen with real-time views of the outside world, along with appearances by Disney characters.

Carnival's standard cabins are more casual, with plenty of storage and colorful decor. The line does offer some of the largest standard cabins in the cruise industry.

Related: Everything you want to know about cabins and suites on Carnival Cruise Line ships

Carnival offers more specialty cabins and suites than Disney, if you're interested in a unique or themed room. Some of the specialty cabins include Havana suites that have access to a private pool and lounge deck, the Cloud 9 Spa rooms that have exclusive perks like unlimited use of the spa's thermal suite, and Family Harbor cabins and suites that come with access to a family-friendly lounge packed with snacks, board games and TVs.

Both cruise lines have larger suites with extra amenities, but Disney gets the nod in this category.

Disney Cruise Line's larger concierge suites range in style from family ocean-view cabins to lavish two-story suites, one of which is located inside the forward funnel on Disney Wish. Perks of booking a concierge suite include access to the concierge lounge, where snacks and drinks are available all day. Attentive hosts can book specialty dining reservations, excursions and more for your family. Concierge guests also get priority access to embark and disembark the ship and the first pick of seats inside the Walt Disney Theatre for shows.

Newer Carnival ships have more suites than older ships in the fleet, where the nicest rooms are bigger but not always fancy. On Carnival's Excel-class ships, the Havana cabins and suites have access to a private pool deck, and Cloud 9 Spa cabins come with unlimited access to the ship's thermal suite in the spa. Travelers who pick a standard suite can enjoy access to Loft 19, a private pool deck with loungers and cabanas, concierge service and an infinity whirlpool.

Food and drink

do disney cruises have fireworks

Dining on both Carnival and Disney is abundant, but Carnival leads the pack with its plentiful and tasty free options, plus a variety of extra-fee specialty restaurants. Disney is known for its unique rotational dining plan and entertaining dinner shows.

Carnival cruisers have their favorite food destinations on board each ship. For some, the celebrity chef-led restaurants pique their interest. They might go for complimentary burgers or barbecue at Guy's Burger Joint or Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse | Brewhouse, respectively, both of which are collaborations with celebrity chef Guy Fieri, or extra-fee New Orleans fare from Emeril Lagasse. Other cruisers enjoy the extra-cost classic steakhouses or Italian favorites at Cucina del Capitano.

Complimentary restaurants are mostly found on the pool decks and include a make-your-own taco and burrito bar, Italian-style pizza and a deli dishing out sky-high sandwiches. The main dining room gets high marks, especially for its outstanding Indian cuisine and iconic melting chocolate cake .

On Disney cruise ships, passengers aren't assigned to one main dining room, as they are on Carnival, but rotate through three themed dining rooms with their waiters in tow. Each included restaurant has its own set of menus and theme.

Related: The ultimate guide to cruise ship food and dining

Among the three, you're likely to find one more elegant dining space, a dining room with character interactions (like the "Frozen" or "Tangled"-themed dining rooms on Disney Wish and Disney Magic, respectively) and a restaurant with interactive elements – such as creating animations or taking down a Marvel villain – to keep everyone occupied during mealtime.

Guests can also indulge in complimentary fast-food fare (burgers, chicken strips, etc.) at the buffet and casual pool deck venues.

Disney ships offer minimal extra-fee restaurants, with Disney Magic and Disney Wonder offering just one and Disney Wish, Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy featuring two. All are adults-only. The highlight of all five ships is Palo (Palo Steakhouse on Disney Wish), which features elevated Italian cuisine with sweeping ocean views. On Disney's larger ships, Remy and Enchante are French fine dining restaurants ideal for date night or celebrating one of life's many milestones.

Kids activities

do disney cruises have fireworks

No matter what age your kids are, they will find plenty of fun inside the kids clubs on board both lines' cruise ships. Both lines have impeccable programs that keep kids entertained throughout the day with age-appropriate activities and different spaces for kids of all ages. For younger kids, you just can't beat the size and innovation of Disney's Oceaneer Club.

On Carnival, Camp Ocean divides junior cruisers ages 2 to 11 into three age-based groups and offers activities like games, movies and crafts. Carnival also has a Suess at Sea program, and kids can participate in activities inspired by Dr. Suess books and meet favorite characters like the Cat in the Hat.

Kids ages 2 to 11 interested in space can also join the Space Cruisers program, where youngsters learn about space exploration and participate in activities developed in partnership with NASA's Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

Over at Circle "C," teens ages 12 to 14 have a hangout spot that's all their own with counselor-led activities like dance parties, games and outdoor movies. Older teens ages 15 to 17 head to Club O2 to enjoy karaoke sessions, movies and video games with their peers.

Carnival does not have a nursery for kids under age 2, but at night, parents can drop their youngsters off at Night Owls, where kids ages 6 months to 11 years can enjoy games, activities and parties or get some rest until 1 a.m.

Disney Cruise Line has some of the most impressive kids clubs at sea. Kids ages 3 to 12 can enjoy Disney's Oceaneer Club on all five ships, though the themed spaces are different from ship to ship. Inside this space, kids can enjoy learning how to fly the Millennium Falcon in a "Star Wars"-themed area or building roller coasters at the Walt Disney Imagineering Lab. Kids can also see and play with their favorite Disney characters like Mickey Mouse and Thor.

Tweens and teens also have their own spaces on the Disney fleet with Edge and Vibe, respectively. As on Carnival, teens can enjoy counselor-led activities like trivia contests, shipwide scavenger hunts and even a movie-making course.

Unlike Carnival, Disney does have a nursery for kids ages 6 months to 3 years. Parents can reserve times to drop their kids off at the nursery online or once on board the ship, and the minimum reservation time is one hour. There is a small fee to use the nursery, but it can be helpful for parents who want to enjoy specialty dining or the spa. The nursery is also open while in port, so parents can drop their kids off if they have a planned excursion or want to explore on their own.

Onboard attractions

do disney cruises have fireworks

Carnival is known for its over-the-top upper decks where families can have thrilling adventures throughout the sailing. Its WaterWorks water parks feature waterslides and splash pads for every thrill level on most ships. Most also have sports courts and minigolf.

Starting with the Dream class of ships, the outdoor decks feature an added ropes course; on the Vista-class ships, the upper decks include a suspended bicycle that goes around the perimeter of a deck. Carnival's newest ships – Mardi Gras, Celebration and the upcoming Jubilee – all feature a roller coaster, water park and ropes course.

On Disney Cruise Line, the activities are much more subdued but still exciting. Each ship has large outdoor pools, and most have a raft ride or slide.

On Disney Magic, the water ride is a drop-floor body slide called the AquaDunk, while Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy feature a family-friendly raft ride around the top deck of the ships called the AquaDuck. On Disney Wish, the family raft ride is the AquaMouse, which also goes around the edge of the ship but includes snippets of cute Mickey Mouse cartoons. The Disney Wonder doesn't have one of the big slides, but does have a bright yellow double-looping waterslide called the Twist 'n' Spout slide.

Other onboard attractions include interactive games featuring Disney characters and a salon where kids can get made up as princesses and pirates. Disney also has movie theaters showing Disney classics and first-run movies.

Carnival and Disney Cruise Line both offer pool decks open to everyone, as well as adults-only sun decks. (Carnival's have hot tubs, while Disney's also have a pool.)

Entertainment

do disney cruises have fireworks

Disney Cruise Line and Carnival have different entertainment styles, but you'll never be bored with so much happening around any of the ships.

Disney excels with its Broadway-caliber live shows, which are either virtual retellings of Disney movies such as "Beauty and the Beast," "Tangled" or "Frozen," or original productions featuring characters from multiple movies and themes around the power of wishing and magic.

Adults will also find entertainment just for them at the various adults-only clubs and bars on board, with comedians and variety acts performing throughout the sailing. (Note that unlike Carnival, Disney Cruise Line does not offer a flat-fee all-you-can-drink package.)

Guests on board Disney's ships are also privy to seeing Disney characters around the decks, whether it's at scheduled meet-and-greets or surprise times when families unexpectedly run into the likes of Captain Minnie Mouse or Spider-Man. One of the most popular meet-and-greet times is the Princess Gathering, an opportunity to meet multiple Disney princesses at the same time.

Disney Cruise Line is also known for its Pirate Night deck party on all five ships. The swashbuckling fun includes scheduled character meet-and-greets with Disney pirates such as Captain Hook and Captain Jack Sparrow, and themed menus and waiter attire at dinner. The culmination of the event is a massive deck party with singing, dancing and appearances by Disney characters followed by a fireworks display.

Carnival is known for its onboard versions of TV shows like "Deal or No Deal" and "Family Feud," and its comedy shows at The Punchliner Comedy Club. Multiple guest comedians come aboard every sailing to perform family-friendly shows during the day and spicy adults-only shows after the sun goes down.

The line's high-tech musical shows, called Playlist Productions, are worth checking out, too. Each show is under an hour and features popular tunes performed by live singers backed up by energetic dancers.

Both cruise lines also have a roster of small-group musical acts that entertain guests in lounges and bars around the ship, though Carnival's live music options are more varied than Disney's. They feature everything from tribute bands to tropical steel drum sounds. If you're feeling like becoming the entertainment, Carnival offers karaoke almost every night around the ship.

Disney's live music is generally regulated to the atrium of the ship during mealtimes, when the space is packed with people coming and going from the nearby restaurant, or in the adults-only spaces after dark. If you want to sing your heart out to your favorite Disney song, the D Lounge is the spot to be on the Magic- and Dream-class ships.

Both cruise lines have classic cruise entertainment like bingo, trivia and games for the family.

Who is on board?

Carnival is known for its affordable cruises with departures from numerous U.S. homeports, attracting travelers who prefer to drive rather than fly to their departure port. The casual cruise line's "Fun Ship" fleet sees a mostly American crowd, including plenty of young adults, multigenerational families and large groups traveling together. Many people book Carnival for its low cruise fares, lively and casual atmosphere, tasty free food and ease of travel.

Disney Cruise Line's passenger base is a mix of American and international travelers. While the cruise line mainly welcomes families with younger kids on board, you'll also see couples without kids and adult travelers who have fond memories of Disney from their childhood. The crowd on Disney is a bit more upscale than Carnival, partly because of the higher fares (even for the most basic cabins) and the fancy suites with concierge service and perks on Disney.

Itineraries

Carnival sails from 14 different ports around the United States, so there's likely a ship setting sail within driving distance of your family if you live near the coast. Cruises take passengers to the Caribbean, Bahamas, Alaska, Canada and New England, Bermuda and Mexico. The cruise line does offer some European sailings, limited cruises around Australia and two 2024 Asia sailings.

Related: The 5 best destinations you can visit on a Carnival Cruise Line ship

Disney focuses its attention on North America, with ships making their way to the Caribbean, Bahamas (home to the line's exciting private island, Castaway Cay, and upcoming private destination Lighthouse Point), Mexican Riviera, Pacific Coast and Alaska. Disney Dream sets sail in Europe over the summer months. Disney also takes guests to international destinations like the South Pacific, New Zealand and Australia.

Bottom line

First-time cruisers will find that both lines have an abundance of activities and top-notch service. Pick Disney Cruise Line if you're looking for a more upscale atmosphere and plenty of kid-friendly activities, and don't mind Disney theming and characters everywhere. Choose Carnival if you're on a budget but still want to maximize the amount of fun you have onboard.
