Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire have announced the return of their renowned co-headlining tour across North America – Heart & Soul 2024 Tour. The Live Nation produced tour brings together the timeless music of Chicago and the iconic catalog of Earth, Wind & Fire for one unforgettable night of music filled with epic sets from each artist that will culminate in an encore performance with both bands on stage together. The 30-city tour kicks off on July 10 at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in St. Louis, MO making stops in Toronto, ON; Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA and more before wrapping up in Palm Desert, CA at Acrisure Arena on September 7. Santana’s ‘Miraculous Supernatural Tour’ braved a storm in Tampa to perform a memorable show

Live Review: Carlos Santana and Earth Wind and Fire – Miraculous Supernatural Tour –Mid-Florida Credit Union Amphitheatre, Tampa, FL- August 27, 2022

On Saturday, Carlos Santana and Earth Wind and Fire rolled into the Mid-Florida Amphitheatre to a barrage of lightning and rain showers. Roads were flooded just getting to the venue, which made me wonder if the show would be canceled. Fortunately not (albeit delayed), Earth Wind and Fire hit the stage around 8 p.m. after the rain was reduced to mere sprinkles.

Wearing sparkly attired in red, black, and white, the band Earth Wind and Fire came on stage to a happy—yet damp—sold-out show. With choreography reminiscent of Motown singers, the band pranced, danced, and vamped across the stage singing 70s funk favorites such as “Shining Star”, “Serpentine Fire”, and “Sing a Song”.

Formed in 1969 in Chicago by the late Maurice White, three original members in the band include Verdine White (bass), Philip Bailey (vocals), and Ralph Johnson (percussion). Earth Wind and Fire include almost a dozen members, including an impressive brass and percussion section. Some of these cats are in their 70s and showed no signs of stopping any time soon.

During the show, a lot of the audience members were standing and dancing—even in the aisles. Hearing songs like “Reasons” took me back to high school dances, bringing warm memories. When I looked around I saw many with eyes closed and heads tilted back, swaying to the beat. Bailey hit and held some impressive high notes and Gary Bias’ sax solo was fantastic.

Hit after hit, the band performed memorable songs such as “That’s the Way of the World” and “Boogie Wonderland”, which had the entire audience on its feet. It was a funk disco dance party by the end of the set with “Let’s Groove” and “September”.  Honestly, seeing and hearing the band was pure entertainment and joy for anybody that grew up with their music.

It was 9:30 p.m. by the time a video of indigenous people playing rhythms was shone on a screen and Carlos Santana and his band (another large orchestra) which included two drum kits and multiple percussive instruments). Wearing a Bob Marley shirt and hat, Santana sauntered across the stage performing the memorable “Soul Sacrifice”, “Jin-go-lo-ba” and “Evil Ways”, taking us back to  Woodstock, New York in 1969.  The classic 60s/70s theme continued with “Evil Ways”, “Oye Como Va”, “Black Magic Woman”, and “Everybody’s Everything”.

One favorite moment of the evening was the band performing “No One to Depend On” which featured short solos by band members, highlighting their skills. David Mathews mesmerized with his organ virtuosity and bass player Benny Reitveld performed a jazzy solo, earning a standing ovation. Impressive was the drumming of Cindy Blackman Santana, who is possibly is one of the top 5 drummers in the world—always energetic and on point.  Paoli Mejías killed it on the congas as the song melded into a salsa fusion.

“Europa” featured lovely harmonies between guitar player Tommy Anthony and singers Ray Greene and Andy Vargas, who often pranced on stage, bobbing like a rapper. Ray Greene doubled on trombone during the evening, which showed off his skills not only as a singer but a multi-instrumentalist.

A Latin funk version of the Zombie’s “She’s Not There” segued into other songs with the same beat like War’s “Spill the Wine” and Iron Butterfly’s “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”.

Santana performed very emotive guitar playing with its distinctive sound that never ceases to impress. During the evening, he seemed to stay on the sidelines and let his band shine. He paused during a song break, thanked the audience for “putting up with the weather”, and gave a heartfelt 2 ½ minute soliloquy regarding religion and spirituality saying, “It is important to know that every one of you is celestial…like Bob Marley said ‘we have been liberated from mental slavery’.”

The evening continued with “Put Your Lights One” which prompted the audience to hold their cell phones high with the flashlight on, illuminating the amphitheatre. People had their eyes closed and the venue had a feeling of being in mass.

It felt like a salsa dance party when the audience stood and danced to “Corazon Espinado”, “Maria Maria”, and “Foo Foo” before coming to an end. It was almost 11 p.m. by this time and the audience was cheering for more. Santana reemerged and the band performed “Smooth” and The Chambers Brothers’ “Are You Ready?” and “Love, Peace, and Happiness”.

Earth, Wind and Fire's musical genres cover the expanse of R&B, soul, funk, jazz, disco, pop, rock, dance, Latin, and Afro-pop sounds. They are disco kings who could take you down "Boogie Wonderland" with dancefloor gems like "September" and "Let's Groove"; or they could take you for a ride down the soul train with the everlasting strains of "Reasons" and "After The Love Has Gone". It is not only fans who rave about them. The music press have also been dancing along to their infectious rhythms. Rolling Stone called them "innovative, precise yet sensual, calculated yet galvanizing" and declared that the band "changed the sound of black pop". VH1 has also described EWF as "one of the greatest bands" ever.

It takes two to tango, so they say… The other half of the supernatural force is none other than the one and the only, hailed as a Latin rock god is Carlos Santana, at the helm of the Chicano rock group Santana. Their appearance at 1969's Woodstock paved the way for stardom with monster hits like "Black Magic Woman", "Jingo", "Evil Ways", and "Oye Como Va". In 1999, Santana wound up new heights of commercial and critical success with the album "Supernatural", powered by its singles "Smooth", featuring singer Rob Thomas, and "Maria Maria". The album reached No. 1 in eleven countries and sold 12 million copies in the US. Shortly afterward, his album "Shaman" topped the charts again with the lead single "The Game of Love", featuring vocals from Michelle Branch, and debuted at number 5 on the Hot 100.

Together, they will rock and trip the light fantastic with their "Miraculous Supernatural tour".

The weather isn’t the only thing heating up around Tampa Bay.

Not only is Megan Thee Stallion bringing her “Hot Girl Summer Tour” to town — there’s a sizzling slate of concerts for fans of just about every music genre.

Expect to see some fun pairings, from longtime peers (Missy Elliott with Busta Rhymes) to some wild mashups (Red Hot Chili Peppers and...Ice Cube?). Sting, who just swung through Tampa with Billy Joel , will even return two more times to rock out with the Florida Orchestra.

Diana Ross: The legendary Motown singer will bring solo hits and favorite songs from the Supremes to the BayCare Sound in Clearwater on Thursday, May 9.

Janet Jackson: The “Together Again” tour comes to MidFlorida Credit Union Ampitheatre in Tampa on Tuesday, July 16.

Sting and the Florida Orchestra : The “Englishman in New York” join conductor Michael Francis and the Florida Orchestra for two intimate benefit concerts. Thursday, May 9 and Friday, May 10 at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg.

Peso Pluma: The 24-year-old Mexican superstar who beat both Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny’s YouTube streaming record last year announced a performance at Amalie Arena on June 21.

Pepe Aguilar : The “Jaripeo Hasta Los Huesos Tour” pays tribute to the Mexican tradition of the Day of the Dead. Sunday, June 30, at Amalie Arena.

Chappell Roan : The self-proclaimed “Midwest Princess” is coming to Jannus Live in St. Petersburg on Sunday, May 19, hot off of opening for Olivia Rodrigo (Both singers work closely with producer Dan Nigro). Expect campy synth pop, technicolor costumes both onstage and in the audience and perhaps an appearance from local drag queens.

Madison Beer : Hear TikTok-famous hits like “Make You Mine” at Jannus Live during the “Spinnin Tour” on Wednesday, May 22, at Jannus Live. Upsahl will open.

Niall Horan: One Direction’s Irish heartthrob brings the “The Show” Live on Tour to MidFlorida Credit Union Ampitheatre on Friday, May 31.

Justin Timberlake: The pop star, now touring to support his sixth solo studio album, is bringing sexy back to Amalie Arena in Tampa on Friday, June 14.

Melanie Martinez: Beach Bunny and Sofia Isella open “The Trilogy Tour” on Tuesday, June 18, at Amalie Arena.

Sleep Token: The masked alt-metal band from England comes to Tampa’s Yuengling Center on Monday, May 6 with Empire State Bastard.

Toto: The band will bless the rains down in Africa at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater during the “Dogs of Oz Tour” on Wednesday, May 8.

Amon Amarth : “Heed our warning: We are gearing up for our biggest and most epic raid in North American history,” the Viking metal band posted to announce their upcoming tour. Cannibal Corpse, Obituary and Frozen Soul open the “Metal Crushes All Tour” on Saturday, May 18, at the Yuengling Center.

Santana and Counting Crows: Now celebrating a 50-year career, Santana will team up with Counting Crows on Sunday, June 16 at Amalie Arena in Tampa for the “Oneness Tour.”

Alanis Morissette: The Canadian-American singer is bringing a dose of ‘90s alt-rock nostalgia to MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa on Wednesday, June 19. “You Oughta Know” that Joan Jett and the Blackhearts will be opening, along with Morgan Wade.

Red Hot Chili Peppers: Catch Flea and friends on the “Unlimited Love Tour,” featuring special guests Ice Cube and indie rockers IRONTOM, on Friday, June 21, at MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre.

Sammy Hagar : The Red Rocker — and special guest Loverboy — will perform during the “Best of All Worlds Tour” on Sunday, July 14, at MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa.

Styx and Foreigner: Foreigner already embarked on a farewell run in 2023, but a tour with Styx seems like a good reason to return to Tampa. Catch the “Renegades & Juke Box Heroes Tour” on Saturday, July 20, at MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre.

Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire: The “Heart & Soul 2024 Tour” features two bands that have been going since the late 1960s — and two MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre shows. Thursday, Aug. 15 and Friday, Aug. 16.

Dirty Heads and Slightly Stoopid: Rock, hip hop, reggae and soul come together for this double-headliner at The BayCare Sound in Clearwater on Saturday, Aug. 3. Common Kings and the Elovators will open.

Beach Fossils: The Brooklyn indie rockers, whose sound ranges from lo-fi to surf rock, head to the Orpheum in Tampa on Friday, April 19.

WMNF Tropical Heatwave : The “eclectic music extravaganza” takes place at the Cuban Club in Ybor City on Saturday, May 4. Bands include The Record Company, Ruthie Foster, Say She She, The Dollyrots, Selwyn Birchwood and more.

Sad Summer Fest: The Vans Warped Tour may not be happening anymore, but this day-to-night festival comes close. See Mayday Parade, The Maine, The Wonder Years, We the Kings at the BayCare Sound in Clearwater on Saturday, July 27. Real Friends, Knuckle Punk, Hot Milk, Daisy Grenade and Diva Bleach round out the lineup.

Slash’s S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Festival: The Guns N’ Roses guitarist, soon releasing his blues album Orgy of the Damned, is coming to the BayCare Sound with ZZ Ward, Robert Randolph and more. A portion of the proceeds from this blues-themed celebration will go towards organizations focused on equity and justice.

Clearwater Smooth Jazz Jam: This two-day jazz and artist celebration takes over Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater on Friday, June 14 and Saturday, June 15. The lineup includes Jeffrey Osborne, Brian Culbertson, Sheila E. and the E-Train, Rick Braun, Richard Elliot, Gerald Albright, and Peter White.

Tampa Bay International Carnival: Celebrate Caribbean culture at this two-day festival featuring Inner Circle, also known as The Bad Boys of Reggae, Kes the Band and more. Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14 at Albert Whitted Park in St. Petersburg.

Nostalgic acts and covers

Emo Orchestra: Grown-up scene queens can hear their favorite MySpace-era hits performed by a live orchestra at the Nancy and David Bilheimer Capitol Theatre in Clearwater. Escape the Fate leads the festivities on Friday, May 3.

Tom Sandoval and the Most Extras: Bravo’s scandalous Tom Sandoval, of “Vanderpump Rules” fame, is heading to the Nancy and David Bilheimer Capitol Theatre on Saturday, May 18 with his cover band, the Most Extras.

Hauser : The Internet-famous Croatian cellist will return to Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater on Saturday, June 1. Expect to hear a wide range of covers across genres, from Celine Dion to Lady Gaga.

Motion City Soundtrack : The pop-punk band celebrates the 20th anniversary of their album “I am the Movie” with Prince Daddy & the Hyena and the Iron Roses at the Ritz Ybor in Ybor City on Sunday, June 2.

New Kids on the Block: The “Magic Summer 2024 Tour” will be a reimagining of the band’s 1990 tour of the same name. Paula Abdul and DJ Jazzy Jeff open the show on Wednesday, July 19, at MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa.

Barbie the Movie: In Concert : You may have seen Margot Robbie at the movie theater. But have you watched the film with an all-women, majority women-of-color orchestra playing the soundtrack live? The hybrid movie-concert experience hits the MidFlorida Credit Union Ampitheatre on Tuesday, July 2.

Lionel Richie Announces Co-Headlining Summer 2023 Tour with Earth, Wind & Fire — See the Dates!

The R&B and funk legends are teaming up for the Sing a Song All Night Long Tour — 20 dates across North America throughout August and September

Get ready to party "All Night Long" with Lionel Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire this summer!

On Monday, the R&B and funk legends announced they'll be teaming up for a string of 20 concerts, billed as the Sing a Song All Night Long Tour, across North America.

"Well, my friends, the time has come to announce a tour — not just any tour, but the tour I've been trying to do for years, and now it's going to actually happen," said Richie, 73, in a video shared to social media alongside the tour announcement. "This is the place you need to be."

Kicking off Aug. 4 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the tour will see the superstars perform in cities including Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Seattle and more before wrapping on Sept. 15 in Los Angeles.

Tickets go on presale for Citi cardmembers from March 7 at 10 a.m. local time through March 12 at 10 p.m. local time before a general sale begins on March 13 at 10 a.m. local time. VIP packages are also available, with more information regarding all tickets available at Richie's website .

The tour will follow the American Idol judge's string of concerts in Europe throughout June and July, as well as Earth, Wind & Fire's previously announced U.S. concerts in June and July.

The 21st day of September is just a few days shy of the start of Earth, Wind & Fire’s new Las Vegas residency , but the limited engagement will still be an affair to remember.

Earth, Wind & Fire will be performing their vast array of hits at The Venetian Theatre inside The Venetian Resort Las Vegas from Oct. 9 through Oct. 19. All performances will begin at 8:30 p.m. PT.

Victoria Monét Surprised By Earth, Wind & Fire On 'CBS Mornings'

Earth, Wind & Fire garnered their first Grammy nomination in nearly 20 years after appearing on Victoria Monét’s “ Hollywood ” off her Grammy-winning debut album, JAGUAR II . Prior to that, the group’s other foray into contemporary R&B came in 2021 with the release of their Lucky Daye-assisted duet, “ You Want My Love .” Per Rated R&B , the single peaked No. 2 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, marking the group’s first top 10 single in 28 years.

Prior to his death, founding member Maurice White spoke on EWF’s influence in contemporary R&B and shared , “I don’t really listen to contemporary R&B with an ear for hearing my influence. Music is a spirit unto itself, and all of us musicians influence each other all along the chain.”
