“There is something about flying down narrow alleys of mangrove trees that is just a rush. I could never get tired of it. The guides always give more than just a ride. You learn so much about the Everglades and the total ecosystem that it is. We most certainly will be back!

—C. from Florida

“The mangrove tour was so much fun! We saw a family of dolphins swimming along the boat, several alligators, and a few fish jumping out of the water. Riding through the mangroves was beautiful and a fun way to see the Everglades. I would recommend to anyone.”

—J. from Massachusetts

“We really enjoyed seeing the alligators. The captain of the airboat gave a lot of information about the Everglades and habitat. The addition of the two-way headsets let us all communicate during the tour. This was really a highlight of having friends down visiting us new Florida residents. Plan to bring other guests."

—K. from Florida

“We did the combo package and it was amazing! Great way to experience all 3 ways to 'see' the Everglades! Would highly recommend. All the captains for each segment were fantastic! Had a great time!"

Boat Assisted Kayak Eco Tour

This is our most popular eco-adventure and combines the best of a Boat Tour, a Kayak Tour and a Walking Tour in a single great learning experience. Depending on the season, you can encounter manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, bald eagles, ospreys, herons, egrets, pelicans, alligators, rosette spoonbills and/or numerous species of fish and shore birds. A very comfortable transport boat will bring you deep into the Park with your Naturalist guide. Once we reach our first destination, we "slow" the tour down using very stable, comfortable kayaks to get you close to the flora and fauna. Imagine paddling next to a manatee or a dolphin!!! (No previous kayaking experience is required and we have single & two-person kayaks). Continue your interpretive experience with a walking tour on pristine barrier island beach ... a beach that is seldom visited by tourists. (9am and 1:30pm; Retail $149.95; 24 pax)

Mangrove Tunnel Kayak Eco Tour

This is a wonderful alternative to an airboat ride ... quiet, peaceful and surreal. It is a leisurely paddle experience with a naturalist guide who throughout the tour will be interpreting and explaining what you are seeing. It is a wonderful learning experience in a very unique part of the Everglades. The Everglades is a vast and varied ecosystem containing the largest mangrove forest in North America. Throughout the forest are brackish "lakes" whose waters are a mix of "sweet" fresh water and salt water. They are refuges and nursery grounds for herons, egrets, stilts, ducks, wood storks, spoonbills, alligators, otters and a gamut of fishes. Some lakes are host to colonies of roosting and breeding birds. Interconnecting these lakes are narrow, flowing tidal creeks. The mangrove forest grows to the very edge and over the tops of these creeks forming a canopy or a tunnel. The dense canopy regulates moisture and humidity allowing orchids and bromeliads to thrive. The sunlight (or moonlight) shimmering through the canopy, the stillness of the forest vegetation and the sounds of the forest itself, make for a surreal experience in the tunnels. We use single and two person kayaks and you do not need previous kayaking experience. Although, completely different than the Boat Assisted Kayak/Canoe Tour, it is an integral to understanding the multiple facets of the Everglades. (8:30, 1:00pm and Sunset; Retail 99.95; 30 pax).

Dolphin, Birding, and Photography Boat Tour (2 hr)

The 2 Hour Dolphin Birding, and Photography Tours are a wonderful adventure for the whole family and a great introduction to the area. In captain's style seating on very comfortable powerboat, you will be safely through the Everglades or Rookery Bays' 10,000 Islands for a interpretive tour of the area. Depending on the season, you can expect to encounter manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, bald eagles, ospreys, herons, egrets, pelicans, alligators, rosette spoonbills, as well as, numerous species of fish and shore birds. Our tours are never "canned", so each tour is different. The area's wildlife move around in order to exist in their world and so must we. Many species are seasonal and inhabit different areas in different environmental conditions, so too, we must be able to adapt. Bring your snacks, favorite drinks, hats, sunglasses and have a great time!! Cameras are a must! Departures from Marco Island and Everglades City.(8:30, 11:00, 1:30 and 4:00; Retail $79.95; 24 pax).

Guided Everglades Swamp Walking Tour

Experience the Everglades with a "Swamp Walk" in Big Cypress Swamp National Preserve or Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park with one of our knowledgeable (and passionate) naturalists. Learn about the natural history of the Everglades, the impact of humans on the ecosystem, and the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) - the largest restoration project our planet has known. A vast variety of native and exotic flora and fauna species inhabit this ecosystem. You may come across an endangered orchid in bloom (such as the ghost orchid or the dingy-flowered star), or see fresh tracks or scat from an elusive Florida panther or black bear. Encounters with white-tailed deer, red-shouldered hawks, barred owls, pileated woodpeckers, egrets, herons, alligators and water reptiles are always a possibility, and definitely a bonus. (9am and 1:30pm; Retail 99.95; 30 pax)

Everglades Expedition Wildlife Boating & Walking Tour (3.5 hr)

This is a premier learning experience in the Everglades Area and is superb for the entire family... from toddlers to the grandparents. Limited to just six guests, it is a personalized, hands-on eco-adventure. Every day is different in the Everglades and 10,000 Islands so we try to be very flexible and dynamic. The tour may/will include a bit of birding, some photography, strolling thru tidal pools, shelling on a remote beach, exploration of one of the 10,000 Islands and/or beach seine-netting for underwater life. The first part of the experience is a guided boating eco tour in search of the areas rich wildlife. The second part is a hands on,, interpretive, guided walk on a remote barrier island to explore the island's beaches, tidal pools and inter-tidal zones. With your assistance, we use supple seine nets to temporarily and humanely capture samples of the wonderfully diverse critters that call this zone home. Magnifying viewing devices are used to view, examine and identify the various species before they are carefully released. For parents and grandparents wanting an active role as educators, our naturalists guides will facilitate the experience and help you be the instructor. (9:00 and 1;30; Retail $149.95;24 pax)

Paddle with Manatees (1.5 hrs)

The Florida manatee inhabits coastal waters and rivers throughout the Florida. They easily move between fresh, brackish and marine habitats including where we paddle! We can see manatees anywhere, anytime on our other tours in the warmer months.. In the cooler months, in order to stay warm, they seek warm water, discharges, springs and in our area, deep water passes and canals. The deeper water retains heat and helps keep the manatees warm. We use a combination of single and tandem kayaks to view the "sea cows". Led by an experienced naturalist, we will paddle amongst a natural, wild population of manatees; close enough to view without disturbing these gentle creatures. Even though they are wild, we still encounter manatees on most every tour! (9:30, 11:30 and 1:30; Retail $59.00; 60 pax)

2.5 Hour Kayak Tours

These kayak tours are all about enjoying yourself on the water. However, we are just as focused on letting you experience the wonderful local natural area and wildlife. Depending on where we (and the wildlife) are we commonly encounter dolphins, manatees, sea turtles, ospreys, eagles along with lots of wading and shore birds. These experiences are great for singles, couples or the whole family. Depending on the conditions, your requests, where we have been spotting wildlife, and certainly, the whims of your naturalist guide, we may launch from any number of locations in and around Marco Island.. Wind down, chill out and enjoy Paradise at its pristine best ... on a kayak tour. Our professional guides and naturalists will work hard so that you get the most out of your experience. (Departures from Naples, Marco Island and Everglades Retail $69.00; 60 pax)

Guided Bioluminesence and Moonlight Kayak Tours

During the warm summer months the waters around Marco Island can come alive and glow! Fish, paddles, kayaks, even your hand moving through the water produces a splash of tiny fireworks that manifests as a bluegreen glow. Bioluminescence! Why does the water glow? In varying concentrations, the water hosts single-celled organisms called dinoflagellates. While there are over 4500 species of dinoflagellates identified, some species, when disturbed, will emit light. This is called bioluminescence. With concentrations great enough, the water appears to glow. It is bright enough sometimes to cast shadows! Typically, warmer water hosts greater concentrations and, hence, a brighter glow. The experience is awesome. A true "Must Do" while in Marco Island. Or Naples Retail $69; 60 pax)

Quick Facts About the Everglades

The Everglades is mystical place.; it’s so large, and so much lies within. How much do you actually know about the area? Could you answer basic questions about the most famous wetland?  Many people know the Everglades is located in Florida, contain alligators, and that people take airboat rides throughout the area; however, there is so a lot more know about this special place.

Here some quick facts about the Everglades. You may have heard of some of the facts before, but many are unknown to the majority of people. We hope these tidbits make you want to check out this natural wonder!

The Everglades is home to 14 endangered species and 9 threatened species.

The Everglades used to be spread across 8 million acres, but now, the area is less than 50 percent of the size it once was due to human settlement and drainage.

The Everglades isn’t really a swamp or forested wetland (although it’s refereed to being so, often), it’s a very slow-moving river.

The American alligator and the American crocodile only co-exist here.

The entire Everglades ecosystem stretched from the Kissimmee River to Lake Okeechobee before people began settling in southern Florida.

The Everglades is a Word Heritage site, a Wetland of International Significance, and an International Biosphere Reserve.

One out of three Floridians get their water supply from the Everglades.

It is the largest, continuous saw grass prairie on the continent.

It contains the largest mangrove system in the western hemisphere.

The area is home to the bestt breeding ground for tropical wading birds on the continent.

The ghost orchid only grows in the Everglades.

The Everglades is known as the “River of Grass.”  Native Americans called it and still call it  “pahayokee,” which means grassy waters.

Check out the Everglades

There is so much more to know and learn about the Everglades beyond these few facts.  The best way to learn about the area is up close and personal! We just had the most incredible adventure that I couldn't wait to share with you all. We recently went on Capt. Ron's Awesome Everglades Adventure in Marco Island, Florida, and let me tell you, it was absolutely mind-blowing! First off, let's talk about Captain Ron himself. He's not only a seasoned professional, but also one of the friendliest and most knowledgeable guides I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He's got a passion for the Everglades that's contagious, and it's clear that he genuinely cares about giving his guests an unforgettable experience. Now, let's dive into the adventure itself! From the moment we boarded the jet ski, I knew we were in for something special. The tour took us through the breathtaking Everglades National Park, showcasing the most stunning landscapes and wildlife I've ever seen. We spotted dolphins and a variety of unique bird species, making it a wildlife lover's paradise. Capt. Ron knows all the hidden gems in the area, and he took us to some secret spots that were straight out of a dream. We explored hidden mangrove tunnels, feeling like true adventurers as we navigated through these natural wonders. It was like stepping into another world! The entire tour was not only incredibly informative and educational, but also tons of fun. Capt. Ron's enthusiasm was infectious, and he answered all our questions and shared fascinating stories about the Everglades' rich history. To top it all off, the jet ski itself was top-notch! Clean, comfortable, and equipped with all the necessary amenities to ensure a smooth and enjoyable ride. Safety was a top priority, and I felt completely at ease throughout the entire trip. Capt. Ron's Awesome Everglades Adventure truly exceeded all my expectations. It's an experience that allows you to appreciate the beauty of nature. If you're in the Marco Island area, I HIGHLY recommend booking a tour with Capt. Ron. Trust me, you won't regret it! Whether you're a nature enthusiast, an adventure seeker, or just looking to have a fantastic time, this is an absolute must-do.

Photo of Dawn Y.

My daughter and I went on Capt Ron's tour as complete novices! His jet skis were easy to use - in fact another family on the tour who actually had their own jet skis back home - were so impressed and kept remarking about how easy his jet skis were to use! TBH - I had a recently surgically repaired knee and am about to be 60! But after watching The Golden Bachelor- I wanted a memorable adventure with my 28 year old daughter. Capt Ron inspires confidence!! He does hurricane rescues!! The whole tour was so exhilarating! And we learned so much about the Everglades. Capt Ron knows every nook and cranny! All the best places! Wildlife! Shelling! Am about to book again for my son and his girlfriend visiting from Boston. Can't recommend enough!

Photo of Lisa S.

We have done this tour twice now with Captain Ron and really enjoyed it. Capt Ron is big on safety and making sure his group is well cared for. He knows the area extremely well so if you have special requests like I want to see a turtle or dolphin, he knows where to take you. He does a great job of pointing out uniquenesses in the area. On our last trip, the water was so calm it was like glass, reminded me of our MN lakes. It made for fast, fun, smooth trails through the Florida mangroves. On a long straightaway, I got up to about 60mph, fast enough for me. I liked the weaving better. Our group size was 4 plus Capt Ron so it was perfect for staying together. Hope to do this again.

Stop your search here...Captain Ron is a Marco Island legend. Don't waste your time looking for a cheaper tour, better rated tour, etc. This is the tour for you. Ron has been in Marco forever, he knows the islands like the back of his hand, and he caters the tour to you. I couldn't get any of my family onboard to come and it was totally their loss. Captain Ron took me on a solo trip and it was AWESOME. I've ridden before, so after a quick test we were FLYING through the mangroves, soaking in the sun, and riding with dolphins. Whatever your skill level, he'll guide you through it all the way. Don't miss out on this adventure if you're on Marco Island

Photo of Tom B.

We had an excellent time on Captain Ron's tour! His jet-ski rentals are really nice high-output Yamahas, not the cheap ones you find at so many other places. He really knows his way around the islands. There's no way I' ever have been able to navigate that kind of tour without stopping every few minutes to check the GPS. It's so much more fun to just follow Captain Ron and not need to worry about getting lost. We'll definitely be going out with him again.

Photo of Logan B.

Great experience! Saw multiple dolphins! Capt Ron takes the time to make sure everyone is cared for and involved! He knows his stuff and take safety seriously. We also enjoyed that he got great photos so we were able to fully submerge ourselves in the experience!

everglades tours from marco island

Captain Ron is the bomb!! The wave runners are in great condition. He knows exactly where to go.. this tour is the perfect mix of fun & safety! We saw TONS of dolphins & over all it was an AMAZING tour!!!

everglades tours from marco island

Amazing time on the water. Capt Ron is an awesome guy who takes safety serious, with that being said he knows how to have fun! Brand new equipment and a great route he takes you on! He's been doing this for over 30 years. Definitely recommend!

Photo of Craig W.

Best tour ever! Worth every penny. We logged 45 miles because we had group that could drive. Lost count of how many dolphins we seen while out. Ron took lots of pics so we didn't have to worry about it. After watching the other tours from other companies I'm glad we went with Ron it had the right amount of thrill and chill. Definitely will go again and bring back others.

Photo of Israel R.

Thanks to a recent discussion, I was reminded of one of my favorite 2013 adventures. Yeah, it was a while ago, but even with my horrible memory i still remember just how freaking fun this tour was. I read about Capt. Ron's on a travel blog (before my introduction to Yelp). A few bloggers were raving about how they really enjoyed interacting with the wildlife and the pics they got. A few minutes later i was calling Capt. Ron to book an excursion. I didn't like the idea of giving my credit card info to a stranger over the phone but it's been 2 years and no weird charges have shown up on my card, so I'd say they're trustworthy. Once you're booked you'll get a confirmation email with instructions, directions and tips for the adventure. The cost of the adventure is per machine, not per person. Naturally, most people would prefer to do something like this with someone they know. So my follow up call was to my then ex-GF. In hindsight, inviting an ex for a weekend getaway is a horrible idea - even with the promise of racing dolphins. Don't fret if you don't have an angry ex to invite though, there will be plenty of cool people out there to interact with and it would still be really fun to go out and do by yourself! Get there on time, especially if you've never operated a jetski before. The crew will run you through the basics with a ski on land. A few minutes later you'll be in the water putting the theory into practice. It really isn't hard, you'll get the hang of it within minutes. The tour starts of a little slow so you have a bit to get a feel for the skis. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, ZOOOM! You take off full throttle. A lot of the tour is spent with the pedal to the metal [more like the lever to the rubber], bit it's necessary (and fun) for the sake of seeing everything there is to see. You do not want to bring grandma or your 5 year old on this adventure. I'm sure the guides would slow down if need be, but you'd be screwing the rest of the group of the best 3 hours possible. Kids 10+ and adults that don't mind a little rush are the participants of choice. We raced through both the murky swamp water and the cool blue sea. Even though you're topping out your ski you still get to take in the beauty around you. Our guide, Avi, knew that what everyone wanted was to get close to some dolphins and manatees. He is known as the "Dolphin whisperer" and it's definitely a fitting title because we came across a few different pods through the tour. It sounds weird but the dolphins seem to love the wake of the skis. I was the first ski behind Avi for most of the tour and i recommend that you try to secure the same spot if you REALLY want to get close to dolphins. They usually "play" with the first few skis, but there are times when we were stopped that they came by to mess around too. There were a few stops where we had a chance to take photos, talk to fellow adventurers, swim, do some bird watching and even visited one of the islands to score some shell trophies. Some bottled water is included in the tour but I'd also recommend bringing a small snack or two so you could munch during one of the breaks. Our tour ended up being just a little over 3 hours long from the point where we took off from the ramp. Time flies while you're adventuring so make sure you make the most of every second! If you love nature, adventure, socializing and trying new things then Capt. Rons Awesome Everglades Adventure tour is money well spent.

Hi Meeko-rtw,

Thanks for your response - most helpful.

Best wishes

everglades tours from marco island

Ron's is really a tour of the 10,000 islands and not the Everglades. We see Ron's jetski's EVERYWHERE while on the island and it is supposed to be a fun, well-run operation. About a month ago, we saw the tour while stopped at an island near Cape Romano. The guests all looked to be having a wonderful time and the guides seemed very attentive from what we could tell.

If you want to do an Everglades tour, there are many outfits in Everglades City. I would recommend looking for the highest rated group on Tripadvisor. What i would recommend, though, is traveling West on Tamiami Trail to Shark Valley and taking the tram tour. It will take you about an hour and a half to reach Shark Valley (much farther than Everglades City), but it is a GREAT place, full of alligators and exotic birds. The park ranger there are very knowledgeable and the tour seems fun! We have never taken the tram, but we have biked Shark Valley MANY times and I can highly recommend it!!

Whatever you decide to do, have fun!!

Thanks Marcomamma,

I appreciate your response. It is very helpful.

Hope you have a fabulous time..

Thanks UnsureNow,

I am certainly getting plenty of ideas based on what everyone has so kindly sent me.

Can't wait!

I have done a kayaking tour with everglades area tour people out of Chokoloskee. I highly recommend it ... you get to see what the 10,000 islands and Everglades ... are all about

Don't confuse these tours to the speedy Airboat tours on or around Everglades City. Good luck and welcome to the Paradise Coast.
