2002-2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Fuse Replacement

Introduction.

This guide demonstrates how to remove and replace fuses for your Dodge truck.

What you need

Step 1 2002-2008 dodge ram 1500 fuse replacement.

Open the hood by pulling the hood lever in the driver-side footwell.

Reach under the center of the grille and press the hood latch.

Add Comment

Locate the fusebox. The fusebox is the box that says "Fuse and Relay Center", near the left front fender of your Dodge.

Unscrew the plastic nut that holds the cover of the fusebox in place.

Remove the nut and the cover of the fusebox. Use the inside of the fusebox cover to determine which fuses you need to check.

Locate the fuse grabber. The fuse grabber is located near the front of the fusebox.

Remove the fuse grabber from its holder.

Use the fuse grabber to carefully pinch the fuse.

Pull the desired fuse out.

Be sure to replace each blown fuse with a fuse of the correct current rating and size. Serious damage can occur if the wrong fuse is used.

To replace a fuse, follow these instructions in reverse order. Make sure you buy the correct fuse to replace a blown fuse. Serious damage can occur if you do not use the correct replacement fuses.

thanx anyway. but not the answer I wanted. didn't tell me anything about which fuse it was .I looked in the fuse box and didn't c the fuse labled headlight there...

Integrated Power Module (IPM) is located on driver's side of engine compartment, in front of battery. IPM consists of Power Distribution Center (PDC) and Front Control Module (FCM). PDC mates directly with FCM to form IPM Fuse and Relay Center. PDC is a printed circuit board-based module that contains fuses and relays, while the FCM contains the electronics controlling the IPM and other functions.

Cruise control fuse location

Some time ago the cruise control stopped functioning on my '97 Grand Caravan and the light does not come on with the switch either. I've done searches here and read all the cruise related problems/solutions but before I go down those paths I would like to check the fuse as suggested in the shop manual. The trouble is I can't find it. I did not see it in the standard fuse locations so either I've just made an error while looking or it's in a special location. If anyone knows its location, any help would be appreciated. I would like to check that out before going to a garage for clockspring work, etc. Thanks, Joe  

Joe, Two things. First, your van has two fuse/relay panels. One is up under the driver's side of the dash, and the other is under the hood next to the battery, a black box marked Power Distribution Center. You should check both. Second, no need to go to a local shop for the clockspring repair. This is a recall item that the dealer will do for free. Rick P.S. OK, a third thing. Check the connector that's mounted under the dash that includes the plunger for your brake lights switch. It's an integral part: cruise control connector/brake light switch. If the only problem is with your cruise (i.e. horn is OK and air bag warning light is not lit), you may have a problem with the switch/connector. It's an $18 part you have to get from the dealer, and can install yourself in 20 minutes. And don't forget to disconnect your battery when you work on this stuff. Accidentally setting off your air bag can really get your attention, I'm told.  

I'm pretty sure I had way more miles than 90K on my van when I had the clockspring recall done. A safety item is a safety item, so I don't think these have any sort of expiration date. Good luck Rick  

Cruise Control Joe My wife has a 97' GC with 130K. Just recently it developed problems with the cruise control. The symptoms are identical to your post. I also looked in both fuse locations but found nothing that was identified as related to "Cruise Control". I have a 96Caravan and my cruise control just stop all together. I thought it was the clockspring and it is garantied for life meaning no limit on mileage. To replace it the airbag lights had to stay on in order to do the recall. Well, no help with the guy at the dealer. And then try to find the relay fuse for the cruise control under the the brake pedal and under the hood? Still puzzle... Thanks Diane  

In my case to qualify for the clockspring recall, my horn and cruise had stopped working. No questions asked, dealer replaced the clockspring and problems solved.  

Well, same problem here. My '97 GC has 169kmi, the airbag light was at first intermitten and these last 3 days its been on solid. Additionally, and suddenly, my cruise: light and operation does not work....NOR does the horn. So, whats my chances of getting the 'recall' treatment and the dealership doing this free under the above circumstances?  

Most of what I read here, people got the light air bag on and the horn not working... and of course it falls directly under the recall no matter what mileage you have. What about just the ''cruise control''? Anybody have any ideas?  

There is no CC module on this vehicle. It is run by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Sorry, your problem isn't fuse related. Gas28man is right on the money about the stop switch. The switch does triple duty--it turns on the brake lights, it tells the PCM when you're applying the brakes, and it allows the CC to turn on if it senses your foot is OFF the brake. If that part of the switch has failed, it will never allow you to turn the system on.  

Thanks Rick for replying but the stop switch has been replace with a new one and no change! My 96Caravan sport as 400 000km when the cruise control stop. and a couple days after the brakes lights stayed on and we change the swicht for the brakes. :help:  

Your vehicle might have two brake switches. One for the brake lights and another for the CC. Check farther up on the brake pedal pivot arm.

cruise control fuse.

So today started having issues with my cruise control not wanting to turn on. Checked the fuse panel and it looks like the 20amp fuse has blown. I'm curious though if others have a 20amp fuse? The book says it's supposed to be a 10amp. I have a 2014 eco diesel Laramie. Anyone able to check for me?  

Unless something is really wrong or you shorted out a wire, how could a 20 amp fuse blow?  

Did you buy your Laramie new? If not it must have blown before and the previous owner instead of finding the problem put a larger fuse in. Not good.  

I have a 2011 ram 3500 an I can't find the fuse for the cruise control can anybody help me out with this it's got the 6.7 Cummins diesel engine in it  

My cruise control just went out so I'm going to check my fuse and hopefully that's it

Cruise control button quit working?

Searched and saw a few say they've experienced this but no solution to the problem Jumped in my truck the other day got out on the highway went to hit the button and nothin, tried for 10 minutes to get it to come on, came home un hooked my batteries and now it seems to be working as it should or at least it did the last time I drove it, I tried to get it to screw up and couldnt, have an apt at the dealer monday to have them look at it but that was before I got it to work again so I might just cancel it. Anyone else run into this? I had something similar happen with my 2014 1500 ram and the lower switch pannel quit working, "fixed it" the same way  

I have this going on. I have to press very hard but only some times. Who has had this fixed? Try pushing hard, hitting cancel and on back and forth, hard...  

The evic control buttons only work about 50% of the time. One of these days Ill get it looked at.  

Mine doesn't work sometimes also. After shut down and restarted it works again, every time so far.  

Mine does this on occasion. Try pushing it at the same time as you push the one next to it. Think its resume or set, one of the two. Mine only works about 20% of the time when I push the button by itself, but works every time I push it at the same time as the on directly to the right of it.  

Just went and tried the double button push and it worked! Thanks!  

I even tried shutting mine down at a stop sign and it didn't work, funny this doesn't seem like an isolated incident I'll keep the double button press in mind if it does it to me again!  

I've had this happen a couple times. If it happens while I'm driving, sometimes putting the truck in neutral and back to drive works. I've not figured out a true pattern.  

mine was intermittent also until I gave the steering wheel a hard tap right where the buttons for the controls are. Been ok ever since.  

My cruise does the same thing intermittently and sometimes my Tradesman evic screen is blank when I turn my key on. Then once the engine is running the screen is back to normal. I believe only the lightning bolt light is on and everything else is off when it does this.  

Mine acted up again today I hit the cruise and resume button at the same time as previously mentioned and it turned right on lmao  

My '13 did that intermittently. They could never duplicate it (of course). I had the truck in for a check engine light (emissions) and the service manager tried to tell me cruise was disabled when the check engine light was on. I had to laugh right in his face...  

Actually I think if you have a CEL then the cruise doesnt work. Regardless these buttons dont work worth a ... same on the 1500s. Some say it has to do with the "cpu" not having enough processing power for all the electronics on the truck which could be part of it. The switches are probably extremely CHEAP crap that saved them some money.  

My '13 did this a couple years ago. It would do it occasionally then stop. Turned out the mechanical button was failing. It was replaced under warranty and I haven't had anymore issues.  

I do believe the cruise can be affected by a CEL. Remote start, too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk  

Cruise works with the check engine light on:I have driven many miles with a CEL. That is why I had to laugh. It does disable the remote start. My 2013 threw codes quite often, but nothing of consequence. I bought a code reader and started clearing the codes myself.  

I work with a guy who owns a 2013 1/2 ton Tradesman. He had the same issue with the cruise control button. The dealership replaced the button and no further issues.  

I have a 2015 2500 and this just happened to me over the past week or two. Yesterday I pulled the fuse to check it out. It was fine, so I put it back in. Ever since then my cruise control has worked. Maybe this will work for y'all.  

I experienced similar problems. Started with intermittent cruise control buttons and then all buttons quit working on steering wheel completely to include my horn. Ended up being the clock spring, brother had same issue on his 2018. He payed to have his replaced, I removed and soldered the broken connections and have had no issues since. I'm not saying that you are having the same problem, but this was my experience and after some research clock springs seem to fail quite often.  

Found a fix for the cruise control. The cruise control is held in by 2 screws. One screw is accessible from the back of the steering wheel. Loosen it maybe 1/4 turn.
