Star Trek: The Next Generation Cast & Character Guide

Why star trek: the next generation's enterprise had a rarely-seen second bridge, why a controversial star trek: tng season 3 episode was banned in the uk.

  • Patrick Stewart shares in his autobiography how uncomfortable the original Star Trek: The Next Generation uniforms were, and the extreme measures he took to get new costumes for the cast.
  • Stewart's campaign to change the uniforms fell on deaf ears until his agent intervened with a threat of legal action, which ultimately led to the introduction of new uniforms in season 3.
  • The new costumes, designed by Robert Blackman, were made of polyester and featured a two-piece design, providing more comfort and flexibility. However, Captain Picard's uniform still had to remain smooth, resulting in the famous "Picard Maneuver" of tugging the hem of his tunic.

Star Trek: The Next Generation changed uniforms in season 3, which Patrick Stewart explains was due to his campaign to secure more comfortable outfits for himself and the cast. Stewart's autobiography, "Making It So: A Memoir," delves into his years playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard on TNG , the four movies that followed, and Star Trek: Picar d. Sir Patrick has no lack of stories about the early days of TNG, and in one passage, he details the extreme discomfort the Starfleet uniform he wore in the first two Next Generation seasons caused him.

In "Making It So: A Memoir," Patrick Stewart describes how uncomfortable it was to wear the original Star Trek: The Next Generation uniforms , and the ingenious plan he and his agent hatched to get a new costume on the show. Read the excerpt below:

Our one-piece uniforms, created by the original Star Trek's costume designer, William Ware Theiss, were made of spandex and deliberately cut one size too small so that they never wrinkled and kept our bodies on constant display... The problem was these uniforms, beyond their leaving little to the imagination, were constricting to the point of causing pain... I campaigned to Gene directly to switch to different uniforms but my pleas fell on deaf ears. Then my agent, Steve Dontaville, came up with a brilliant idea: I would consult my doctor and ask him to make an appeal, as a medical professional, to change the uniforms. Steve also threw his weight around, intimating to the Paramount execs that if the situation were not remedied, he would bring suit against them for any muscular and joint damage I suffered.

Patrick Stewart went on to explain how their plan resulted in new Star Trek: The Next Generation uniforms in season 3, and how it gave birth to the famous "Picard maneuver." Read his quote below:

Our strategy worked. It took a couple of seasons to implement the changes, but finally, a new costume designer, Robert Blackman, sympathetically came up with a two-piece uniform made of polyester. My new getup, with a top separate from my trousers, was still snug but had plenty of give. Gene, however, was adamant that Captain Picard's uniform must always be unfailingly smooth. So every time I sat down in my captain's chair, I tugged on the hem of my tunic - a tic that Star Trek fans have named the "Picard Maneuver."

Star Trek: The Next Generation has one of the most beloved cast of characters in all of science fiction. Here are the major characters of the classic.

Star Trek: The Next Generation's Uniforms Changed Twice More In The TNG Movies

The uniforms worn by the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation changed two more times during the TNG movies. Redesigned uniforms for Star Trek Generations were scrapped at the last minute, which led to the production borrowing Star Trek: Deep Space Nine 's turtleneck and jumpsuit-style uniforms. Since they weren't specifically designed for the TNG cast, this explains why the switched uniforms in Star Trek: Generations didn't quite look right or fit the actors who wore them properly. Star Trek: First Contact then introduced sleek new uniforms that not only were worn in the final three TNG movies but the cast of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine switched to wearing them as well.

In "Making It So: A Memoir," Patrick Stewart also writes that Jean-Luc Picard not wearing a Starfleet uniform was one of his conditions for starring in Star Trek: Picard . Stewart wanted to depict a Jean-Luc who had moved on from his Starfleet life. In Star Trek: Picard season 3, Stewart did not wear a Starfleet uniform and instead wore dark and utilitarian street clothes and a jacket that evoked his decades of service in Starfleet. Meanwhile, the "Picard maneuver" has indelibly become a part of Star Trek: The Next Generation lore.

Ranking Every STAR TREK Uniform, From The Original Series to STRANGE NEW WORLDS

Starfleet has had several uniform designs in over 55 years of Star Trek . And we mean several . It’s wild how often Starfleet changes tailors. But while some uniforms have been fashion-forward, others… not so much. Here, we rank all the main Starfleet uniforms seen in the franchise thus far. We are skipping Alt-timeline uniforms , except for the J.J. Abrams Kelvin universe, since it made prominent appearances. And we skipped ones with very brief screen time, such as the U.S.S. Kelvin crew uniforms. So, let’s set phasers to stunning, and talk about some future fashion, ranking from best to worst.

Spock (Leonard Nimoy) from Star Trek classic, Picard (Patrick Stewart) from The Next Generation, Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) from Voyager, and Spock (Ethan Peck) and Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) from Strange New Worlds.

1. Wrath of Khan through Generations (1982-1994)

The cast of the Star Trek flms, wearing their parts II-VII uniforms.

Costume designer Robert Fletcher designed some of the worst Starfleet uniforms ever for 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Luckily, he got a “do-over” for The Wrath of Khan in 1982, and the subsequent five films . These uniforms are the crème de la crème of Trek wear. Yes, unlike most Starfleet uniforms on this list, they are only one color, maroon. But their design recalls 19th-century nautical uniforms, and so they just look so very regal. Officers must have loved these, because as TNG flashbacks showed us, they stayed in circulation for over fifty years.

2. The Next Generation , Seasons 3-7 (1989-1994)

The Star Trek; The Next Generation cast, in their seasons 3-7 uniforms.

These are the uniforms most think of when they think of TNG. After seasons one and two costumes were retired (we’ll get into why later), designer Robert Blackman came up with new yet similar uniforms for TNG year three . These had the same color designs as the earlier seasons, but were two-piece jackets and pants combos, and now with a more dignified collar instead of a V-neck. There is something about these that are just simple and classy, and there’s a reason they have remained iconic. Maybe it’s also because we always loved when Jean-Luc pulled down on his shirt in a huff.

3. Picard, Seasons 2-3 (2022-2023)

The bridge crew of the U.S.S. Titan, as seen on Star Trek: Picard season 3.

These first appeared in season two of Picard , and feature prominently in season three . Why do we love these so much? They take the color combo and general aesthetic of the Deep Space Nine/Voyager uniforms, but add the details and front “open flap” of the ‘80s movie uniforms. And it just all works. We kind of wish the black was on the shoulders instead, but hey, it’s ok. These new uniforms rock. Let’s keep them around.

4. First Contact, Insurrection, Nemesis, Deep Space Nine Season 5-7 (1996-2002 )

Picard wearing the First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis Starfleet uniforms, also worn by Ben Sisko and the crew of Deep Space Nine.

Usually, we hate gray tones in Starfleet uniforms. But the uniforms introduced in the 1996 film First Contact really are very smooth. And the pop of color in the undershirts/collars keeps them from looking bland and lifeless. Much like the original maroon movie uniforms, these look the most “military” of all the Starfleet uniforms. This fits, as they introduced them in a war with the Borg , and later used them on DS9 when the Federation was at war with the Dominion.

5. Strange New Worlds (2022)

Anson Mount as Captain Pike and Ethan Peck on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

A very recent addition to the canon, the retro-modern uniforms introduced in Strange New Worlds totally evoke the Pop Art colors of the original series. Only with much better fabrics that show much more in terms of details. The little Starfleet Deltas on the shoulders and sleeves? We love that touch. These uniforms prove that the basic concept of the classic ‘60s series still works today if you do them right. Kudos to SNW costume designer Bernadette Croft for bringing that classic style to the modern day.

6. Star Trek (2009) , Into Darkness, Beyond (2009-2016)

Spock (Zachary Quinto) and Kirk (Chris Pine) wearing their Kelvin timeline Starfleet uniforms.

Similar to Strange New Worlds , the “retro chic” uniforms of the Kelvin timeline movies were meant to evoke the bright, primary colors of The Original Series . And they really did just that, just as SNW’s uniforms currently do. The only reason that SNW ranks a wee bit higher is that we’re not super crazy about the “shirt over another shirt” thing the Abrams films had going on. Luckily, that was modified for Star Trek Beyond . But other than that detail, we love these.

7. The Original Series, The Animated Series (1966-1969, 1973-1975)

The Enterprise crew on the original Star Trek series, as they appeared from 1966-1969.

Yes, to modern eyes, these old-school uniforms look kinda cheap. The shirts scream “your Mom’s favorite fabric store,” and instead of a metal badge, it looks like someone slapped a Starfleet Delta sticker on the shirt. But, these bright primary colors instantly grab your eye, and make you think of a fun rainbow-hued future you actually want to live in. So hats off to TOS designer William Ware Theiss, who made these velour uniforms pop on all those tube television sets back in the day. They will live long and prosper.

8. Deep Space Nine Season 1-5, Generations, Voyager (1993-2001)

The standard Starfleet uniforms seen in Deep Space Nine season 1-5, Voyager, and the film Generations.

These uniforms first appeared on Deep Space Nine in 1993, then in the film Generations in 1994 , and finally in Voyager from 1995-2001. Since they were lost in space, Janeway’s crew was stuck with one uniform design for seven years. They are very classic Trek, and are pretty much the TNG era uniforms, only with color on the shoulders and black in the torso. We dig them, and they’d rank higher, except for one thing. The cut and fit of these really make them look like cozy space pajamas. And once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

9. Discovery Season 4 (2021-2022)

Captain Michael Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery in Star Trek: Discovery season 4.

We were not big fans of the original early 23rd-century designs, seen on Starfleet officers on Discovery. Star Trek only really got away with “one color” uniform standard one time (see entry #1). But when Discovery jumped to the 32nd century , the crew got some snazzy new uniforms to go with their new home in the far future. These costumes evoke the best of TOS, TNG , with a touch of the classic nautical tradition seen in the original movie uniforms, right on the shoulder. We hope these stick around in season five and beyond.

10. Lower Decks (2020-Present animated, 2023 live-action)

The Lower Decks uniform design, on the animated series and on Strange New Worlds in live-action.

Yes, this is an animated show. But it’s canon, so we are counting them. We are not sure why the U.S.S. Cerritos has different uniforms than the rest of Starfleet, but we must admit, these are kind of cool. Much like the current Picard season three uniforms, they combine classic ‘90s Starfleet aesthetic with a little bit of the classic film uniforms, with the open flap on the shirt. The real reason we know these are good is that on the Strange New Worlds episode “Those Old Scientists,” both Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid) and Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome) wore the animated uniforms in live-action, and they were quite fetching.

11. The Next Generation Season 1-2 (1987-1989)

The original Star Trek: The Next Generation Starfleet uniforms, retired after season two.

During the first two seasons of TNG , creator Gene Roddenberry decided that in the future, no one would want to see wrinkles. Look, he had a lot of wacky ideas. So he had his original series costume designer William Ware Theiss design jumpsuits that looked like spandex. To avoid wrinkles, they came with a foot strap to go over the shoe so that they could pull it taut. This was pure hell on the backs of the cast. Later, they demanded they be changed for season three into two-piece costumes. The basic design is still iconic, but they just look uncomfortable, making these awkward designs rank this low.

12. Discovery Seasons 1-3 (2017-2020)

The original Star Trek: Discovery officer's uniforms, from season 1-3.

Discovery’s first two seasons were set ten years prior to TOS, but the leap from these uniforms to what we saw later is head-scratching. While we like the blue hue, the silver piping on them and the accompanying shoes really just make these uniforms look like space tracksuits. It’s as if Starfleet decided to hire Adidas to design for them. When the crew of the Enterprise showed up in season two in classic colors, it just made us dislike these uniforms even more. Luckily, the Discovery crew eventually ditched them for snazzier threads when they landed 900 years in the future in season 3.

13. Prodigy (2021-2022)

The unique uniforms worn by the kids who run the Protostar on Star Trek: Prodigy.

Technically, the uniforms used by the kids on the Protostar in the animated series Prodigy are not quite official Starfleet. But these unique uniforms have a cool design overall. We dig the asymmetry in the torso. But we would love them way more if they ditched the grey and gave us some classic gold, red, and blue. Maybe we’ll get there someday. This series is just in its infancy.

14. Picard Season 1 (2020)

The various Starfleet uniforms seen in season one of Star Trek: Picard

We didn’t see that many Starfleet uniforms in the first two seasons of Picard . But the ones we did see didn’t hit the mark. The basic design recalls the old DS9/Voyager uniforms, but there are just too many extra details on the shoulders. They are just a bit too busy. At least for the higher-ranking officers. The lower-ranking officers were ok, the collars are just awkward. Set phasers to “meh.”

15. The Original Series , Pilot Episodes (1965)

The original Starfleet uniforms, as seen on the first two 1960s Star Trek pilot episodes.

Think of these as prototypes. This sweater/pant set was seen first on Captain Christopher Pike in the first TOS pilot “The Cage.” Then again on Kirk in “Where No Man Has Gone Before,” the second pilot. The design is actually kind of snazzy, in a mid-‘60s Mad Men- era way. But the color palette? Just way too muted. They’re just gray/blue and a boring pale yellow. Kind of yawn-worthy. Not awful, but they didn’t last long enough to make an impression. Luckily, when Star Trek went to series, they got much more fun in terms of color choices.

16. Enterprise (2001-2005)

The early pre-Federation Starfleet uniforms, seen on the crew of the NX-01 Enterprise, on Star Trek: Enterprise.

We understand that Enterprise , set only 150 years in the future , was supposed to look more like our own modern era. But man, these Starfleet uniforms really just look like Captain Archer and crew were working as mechanics in a space garage. They are just a tad too real-world looking, and lack any sci-fi fun and fantasy. They’re still better than the Enterprise theme song though. And luckily for them, they are not the lowest ranked on this list.

17. The Motion Picture (1979)

The beige and muted uniforms of 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Talk about coming full circle. Robert Fletcher, the same designer who made these lowest-ranked costumes for The Motion Picture , later designed the best uniforms in Star Trek in our estimation, from films II – VI . Much like the DS9/Voyager uniforms, these straight-up look like pajamas. But unlike the ones worn by Sisko and Janeway, these come in boring tones of beige, gray, and white. I’m sorry, Earth tones are Star Wars . We come to Star Trek to taste the rainbow. And Kirk’s regular duty uniform looks like he’s an interplanetary dentist. These made only one appearance, and there’s a reason why. Blow them out the airlock.

Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Episode 4 Easter Eggs

This Star Trek: Picard article contains spoilers.

At this point in Star Trek: Picard season 3, one thing is clear: This season isn’t just paying homage to the ‘90s era of Trek . This season is a direct sequel to those adventures. From details about Changelings to deep dives into the past of the old Stargazer , to new wrinkles about the Borg, the fourth episode of Picard season 3 had a lot to unpack.

Here are the best easter eggs and Star Trek canon references in “No Win Scenario.”

Five Years Ago…

We start in a flashback, with Jean-Luc hanging out in the Los Angeles version of Ten Forward. Five years prior to Picard season 3 would put this flashback in 2397, which is, interestingly enough, just two years before Picard season 1. At this point in the timeline, Jean-Luc would be fully retired from Starfleet, meaning the young Starfleet officers would be pretty excited to see him out in the wild. Notably, the uniforms of the officers in this scene match the style of Starfleet uniforms from season 1, which are slightly different from what we’ve seen in season 2 onward.

Ad – content continues below

Ten Forward Has A Lot of Easter Eggs

Introduced in season 2, this version of Ten Forward is always brimming with easter eggs. In the flashback scenes in “No Win Scenario” — which occur at the beginning of the episode, and toward the end, we see the following:

  • A model of the Enterprise-C
  • A photo of Picard and Guinan from Generations
  • A photo of an Andorian in a TOS uniform
  • A publicity still of Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan from The Next Generation
  • A sign for “Frontier Day.” This could indicate this celebration might occur every five years. Maybe?

The Hirogen, Tamarians, and “Darmok”

The younger officers quiz Jean-Luc about a few adventures, but we only really hear him talk about two throughout these flashbacks. One is something we’ve never heard of, while the other is a very famous TNG episode.

At the start of this flashback, Picard is asked about the Hirogen . This is an alien species from the Delta Quadrant, first introduced in Star Trek: Voyager . Jean-Luc and Worf dealing with the Hirogen never happened in the TNG series or feature films. This is why somebody asks Jean-Luc if he asked Admiral Janeway for “advice,” and also why they wondered about how the Hirogen got “into the quadrant.” In Voyager , the Hirgoen were a hunter species from the Delta Quadrant.

However, later in the episode, when Picard talks about the Tamarians basing their language on “metaphor,” that is something we’ve seen. There, he’s referencing the beloved TNG episode “Darmok.”

“No Win Scenario”

The title of this episode refers to the Kobayashi Maru scenario, a “no win scenario,” first introduced in The Wrath of Khan . Interestingly, this is the third episode of a new Star Trek series to reference this in an episode title in the past two years. The 2021 Discovery season 4 premiere was called “Kobayashi Maru,” while the sixth episode of Prodigy , in early 2022, was called “Kobayashi.”

While Seven searches the quarters of the suspected Changeling, we briefly see her favorite game: a Vulcan Kal-Toh. This game was referred to as “Vulcan chess,” but it’s way harder. This is at least the second time we’ve seen a Kal-Toh set in Picard — in the season 1 finale, we saw one near Raffi and Seven in the finale moments of “Et in Arcadia Ego Part 2.” But the game itself originated on Voyager , and Seven was very good at it.

Jack tells Jean-Luc a story about “Matalas 4,” which he says was a “real dump.” This is one of many references to showrunner Terry Matalas throughout the season. “M’Talas Prime” is the crime-ridden planet where Worf and Raffi have been hanging out throughout the first three episodes.

Changeling Bucket and Odo!

Shaw gives Seven the low-down on the limits of shapeshifters, specifically, the fact that they need to regenerate somewhere. On the PADD Shaw hands Seven, we see a “Changeling Report,” which also shows a picture of Odo (René Auberjonois) from Deep Space Nine . When Seven locates the bucket on the Titan , it looks very similar to the one Odo had on DS9 .

Jack Crusher (Senior) and the Stargazer

Picard tells young Jack about his time with Beverly’s first husband, Jack Crusher Sr. This story about them getting stuck in a shuttle, stranded away from the Stargazer , is not something we’ve heard before. It also seems to predate Jack meeting Beverly, since Jean-Luc and Jack were single and ready to mingle. It also seems possible that Jean-Luc was not yet the captain of the Stargazer when this happened.

USS Constance, Wolf 359, and Locutus of Borg

We learn that Captain Shaw was previously an engineer on the USS Constance during the Battle of Wolf 359 . This, of course, references the legendary TNG two-parter “The Best of Both Worlds,” in which Picard was assimilated by the Borg and turned into Locutus. We now know that Shaw served on the USS Constance during that battle, which was destroyed at Wolf 359, along with all the other Starfleet ships.

Previously, we’ve seen a schematic of the Constance in the end credits for every episode of Picard season 3, though, up until now, we haven’t known why. The Constance itself takes its name from a painting in the 12 Monkeys episode “Causality.” That series was helmed by Terry Matalas.

Shaw’s dislike of Picard because of Wolf 359 parallels Sisko’s experience in the DS9 pilot episode “Emissary.” Like Shaw, Sisko also kinda blamed Picard for the destruction of his ship, the Saratoga .

“Weird Shit on the Stargazer”

When Shaw says “forget about that weird shit on the Stargazer,” he’s not talking about Jean-Luc’s Stargazer from back in the day, but rather, the newer Sagan-class version of the USS Stargazer from Picard season 2. When Shaw says “the real Borg are still out there,” what he means is that the nicer version of the Borg seen in the finale of Picard season 2 are not the only version of the Borg that exist in this timeline. This means the original version of the Borg Collective is intact in the Picard season 3 timeline.

Space Babies at Farpoint

Dr. Crusher determines the nebula is full of space-dwelling alien lifeforms. She points out this is not the first time they’ve encountered creatures like this and Picard says “Farpoint.” This references the giant space jellyfish in the very first episode of The Next Generation ever, “Encounter at Farpoint.”

“To seek out new life”

Both Crusher and Riker get to say parts of the famous Star Trek opening monologue when Beverly says “to seek out new life” in response to seeing the space jellyfish all over the place. Riker responds by saying “I think we should boldly get the hell out of here.” Neither character has ever been able to say parts of this — or modifications of it — ever before.

Deanna Troi

Riker and his wife, Deanna Troi, catch up via subspace communication at the end of the episode. This is the first time we’ve seen Troi in the present in this season of Picard . She only appeared in a flashback in the previous episode. Troi is likely on the planet Nepenthe, which first appeared in Picard season 1.

Admiral’s Log

Jean-Luc closes the episode with a voice-over “Admiral’s log.” This is the first time he’s done this in the entirety of the series of Picard . This is the first time we’ve heard a log-style voiceover from Patrick Stewart since 2002 in Star Trek Nemesis . The episode concludes with a tease about deeper mysteries concerning Jack Crusher, but for now, the first four episodes of the season feel very much like the conclusion of one, very long and action-packed episode of The Next Generation .

Why Picard's Special Uniform Is More Important Than You Think

Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard on Star Trek

Star Trek: The Next Generation went through an evolving process with regard to their uniforms. For the first two seasons, most everyone was wearing incredibly tight onesies with boot straps. The goal was that there would be no wrinkles, and that worked! Unfortunately, there was a metaphorical wrinkle — the uniforms were so tight that the physically pained the actors wearing them. At the time there was only one other option: the skant, a version of the uniform that ends in a skirt. Both men and women background actors wore the skant on occasion, but the only lead cast member to ever wear it was Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) and even that was temporary.

Much to the relief of most cast members, the standard Starfleet uniform was updated, beginning in season 3, by costume designer Robert Blackman. Rather than being one piece, the new uniform was a jacket and trousers.

However, there is one actor who got yet another version of their uniform: Captain Jean-Luc Picard ( Patrick Stewart ). The reason why his suit was changed is interesting, in more ways than you might guess. Let's talk about the genesis of the uniform, what it consists of, how it came to be, and how it seamlessly evolves the character of Jean-Luc Picard in ways you probably never even thought about.

Darmok and Jalad and a sweet, new suede jacket at Tanagra

Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Patrick Stewart, and Marina Sirtis in Star Trek: The Next Generation

The stardate is 45047.2, the actual date is September 30, 1991, and the episode is "Darmok." The Enterprise-D has been tasked with attempting to build The Children of Tama despite extreme difficulty in understanding their language. If you were alive when that episode first aired, you were likely very distracted for one very simple reason: the captain was wearing an open jacket.

Yes, while everyone else was still in their normal uniforms, Captain Picard was tooling around in a suede coat with black, leather shoulders. And while the leather would ultimately be replaced with microsuede, we'd start seeing Picard in this outfit more and more often. The question is, where did this new jacket come from, and why?

It turns out that Sir Patrick Stewart himself was interested in making Picard stand out, according to StarTrek.com . Robert Blackman, along with Stewart's input, set about making this new jacket to do exactly that. There's justification for a captain-specific uniform both within the continuity of Star Trek, and in real life: For example, on Star Trek: The Original Series, Captain Kirk (William Shatner) got his own wraparound tunic uniform. In real life, it's not uncommon for certain air carrier and submarine commanders to have a uniform specific to them.

But what makes this new uniform really interesting is the psychological component, as far as Picard himself. We've spent years with everyone but Troi perpetually wearing the same thing, and it's noteworthy that Picard, of all people, is the one to stretch his wings and wear something different. The reason, as it happens, is related to a rather dark incident with the Borg .

What it means for Picard to choose to stand out

Patrick Stewart as Locutus of Borg on Star Trek: The Next Generation

Let's look a little further back for a moment. The stardate is 44001.4, the actual date is September 24, 1990, and the episode is "The Best of Both Worlds Part II." Captain Picard has been assimilated by the Borg. His identity has been ripped from him, all his knowledge has been devoured by the Collective, and they are using his face and his voice to act as ambassador while the Borg attempt to systematically dismantle the entirety of the Federation. Using Picard's knowledge and his body, the Borg invade the Alpha Quadrant, engage a fleet of Starfleet vessels, and obliterate them all.

Eventually the crew of the Enterprise-D stop the Borg and save Picard's life, but the psychological damage is done. Picard has lost a part of himself, and, furthermore, must live with blood on his hands, even though he had no control of his actions.

Picard is, infamously, a bit of a stuffed shirt when we first meet him. After being assimilated by the Borg, it's safe to say that he crawls behind his stiff, public persona for safety. "Darmok" takes place almost exactly one year after Picard recovers from Borg assimilation. What makes that new uniform so interesting, then, is that it explicitly sets him apart from the rest of the crew: That suede coat is Picard expressing (and reclaiming) his individuality, even though he's usually so strict in his following of Starfleet rules. In essence, one year after being assimilated by a collective intelligence, Picard finally finds the strength to publicly declare that he is his own person, and that he has the right to stand out from the crowd.

That new jacket isn't just nice to look at, but is Picard's way of moving on from the Borg, and that's what makes the costume so special.

‘All of Us Are Dead’ Season 2 Just Got Closer to Our Screens

'the old man' season 2 episode 3 recap: daddy issues, mystery thriller ‘scarpetta’ is coming to tv with nicole kidman and jamie lee curtis.

Over the course of forty-odd years, two series, and a handful of movies, Jean-Luc Picard ( Patrick Stewart ) has been through a lot, but the final season of Star Trek: Picard introduced one scenario that he had never experienced before. Fatherhood. In the second episode , Picard learns that he and Beverly Crusher ( Gates McFadden ) had a son, and that son is Jack Crusher ( Ed Speleers ). Due to very reasonable rationale, Beverly decided not to tell Picard about their child, but fate threw a wrench in those plans twenty years later when a dire situation led to Beverly calling upon Picard for help.

The first five episodes of Season 3 have truly showcased how perfectly cast Speleers is as the child of Beverly Crusher and Jean-Luc Picard , and watching him go toe-to-toe with Stewart while exploring the complex relationship that the two characters are forging, is something truly magical. Jack Crusher is, without a doubt, one of the best characters to be introduced in this new era of Star Trek on Paramount+, and brings a lot of hope for the next generation of The Next Generation .

Ahead of the premiere of Star Trek: Picard Season 3—before the world knew just how pivotal Ed Speleer's role would be on the very fabric of the Star Trek universe, Collider had the opportunity to have a lengthy conversation with Speleers about Jack Crusher, working with Patrick Stewart, the songs that helped him get into the role, and what it was like to interact with iconic sets and costumes. Now that Episode 5 has passed , we can finally share the spoiler-filled portion of our interview, but be sure to check out the first half which delved into his role on You . Be sure to check back in when the series comes to a close in a few weeks to read another fun tidbit from this interview.

COLLIDER: You have played in a few different iconic series like Downton Abbey and Outlander , but I really think that Star Trek is probably the biggest.

ED SPELEERS: Yeah. I mean, I would not want to do a disservice to other shows I've been a part of, but yeah. I mean, this thing has been going since, I want to say 1964, but that might just be in my head. It's such an honor. I mean, the whole thing was so surreal to be a part of it and to be given the role that I was given. Yeah, it's been a privilege from start to finish and so surreal within that because you cannot escape without knowing... It's impossible growing up anywhere and not [having] a subtle understanding of what Star Trek is and then what it might mean to so many people globally.

I remember when it originally leaked that you were going to be part of Picard , and I was like, "Oh, that's really cool. That's a huge TV series to be part of.” But I don't think I could have guessed just how big your role would be. So I want to know, what was the casting process like?

SPELEERS: I mean, I really want to say that it was incredibly extensive, and I did round after round after round and had screen tests galore, but it wasn't. The thing that took the longest was me actually finding myself, plucking myself the courage to do the tape. It took my girlfriend really... Not [persuading] me, because I love the thing. When it came in, I was like, "Oh my God, this is great. This ticks all the boxes. This is exactly the sort of challenge I'm looking for." But I struggled to tape. I was like, "Oh no, this isn't working."

I was almost in tears. I just couldn't quite work out how to do it, and I nearly gave it up. I nearly was like, "No, I'm not doing this. I can't. I'm not going to do it." I was very dramatic. It was very actor-y behavior. It took my girlfriend to sit me down, have a cup of tea, tell me to grow up, pull myself together, and we shot it, and we did a late-night tape, and we sent it off. And two weeks later, I found out that they wanted to maybe test me with Patrick [Stewart]. And then very quickly, they changed their mind on that and said, "No, actually we want to offer you the role." And I was like, "Oh, okay. This is kind of serious." I mean, it very quickly meant a lot to me, really.

Were you already a Trekkie or a fan of Star Trek ?

SPELEERS: I wouldn't say I was a Trekkie per se. I have nostalgic memories of coming home from school and [ Star Trek: The Next Generation ] being on and me sitting by the fire, and there only being a few things you could possibly watch, Next Gen being the best thing. I did remember lapping it up. My dad was quite into the original Star Trek from the '60s.

Once I had this part, I talked at length to—who's now my good friend—Terry Matalas, our showrunner, [whose] knowledge of Star Trek is encyclopedic. As a result, he was like, "Right." I felt that in order to take this role on, because of this huge passionate fan base, I couldn't do it unless I knew everything I needed to know. “I need as much backstory as possible. I need all the nitty gritty. I need the nooks and crannies. Give it to me.”

And he was like, "Right, okay, I'm going to send you to Star Trek University." He gave me this extensive list of Star Trek films to watch, First Contact being very prevalent. He was like, "This is very important to what you are doing." And he gave me quite a long list of episodes that he thought would be worthwhile from the Next Gen series. And I went to town, and it was amazing. When I first got to LA, getting ready for the role, I would be working on the role in the day and then in the evening I would watch a Star Trek movie. I mean, it was pretty special really.

It has to be so cool to step into such an established franchise. Obviously, there are shows that have run for a couple of seasons, but this is something that most of this cast has been part of for the better part of their lives. So, what was it like getting to join such an established cast in a role that is the physical embodiment of a relationship that meant a lot to Star Trek fans?

SPELEERS: I mean, I can't tell you how much of an honor it is and was. It's something that I will hold—no matter what happens from this point forward, if I never work again—I can hold my head up high and hold very dearly to my heart that I was a part of this and part of this special group of people, and special group of creatives who have worked tirelessly over decades to create these characters. To be given the opportunity to play this role that is so pivotal in the final season, or the penciled final season, for Picard , I get… I mean, I'll be honest, Maggie, I get very emotional talking about it because the whole thing meant so much to me from start to finish.

As I said, it was the sort of role I have been craving and looking for, for such a long time. And to be given it on this level, surrounded by those people who were so supportive of me, I cannot thank Paramount CBS enough to give me the opportunity. I feel very honored and humbled, and I still find it very surreal just talking about it, to say I'm part of such a juggernaut of a franchise.

You do so well in the role. There are so many moments that I wish I could just be like, "Let's talk about this moment." But something I really enjoyed was the rapport between Jack and Seven. I thought the last two seasons of Picard that Seven very much felt like a pseudo-child to Picard, the way that she looks up to him. Can you talk a little bit about their dynamic in this final season?

SPELEERS: Yeah, I think that's a really interesting angle to be looking at because I think it's maybe one that could go under the radar, but I think it's kind of pivotal as well. Obviously, because of Seven's own background of who she is and what she represents, [there are] huge links there that we don't really understand until much later on. But there is a kindred spirit between them because they're both, if anything, the two that would push Starfleet away. Of course, Seven over time has been completely embraced by Starfleet. But if anything, Jack doesn't want anything to do with it. He wants to find his own two feet, do things his own way. But I feel that actually, there is a connection. They have a, dare I say, a worldliness, an ability to maybe look at things from a different angle, which obviously they can relate to.

I feel that there's a lot more to give with their dynamic actually that I think we've only sort of scratched the surface. But I love getting a chance to work with Jeri [Ryan]. She's an icon of the Star Trek universe, and she is a wonderful actor. She knows exactly what she's doing in this world in terms of how to do the jargon, how to do the action. But also, she's just a great human. So she allows a fun, safe space to work and to play. And I feel that the dynamic between those two is a very playful one, and it could be really exciting to explore that further.

Absolutely. Jack gets to wear a Starfleet uniform for a little bit. What was it like the first time you got to put that uniform on, and was that a moment where you're like, "Oh my God, I am in Star Trek "?

SPELEERS: I mean, to be honest, I'm still having those moments just chatting to you about it. I'm having the moments of almost, "God, I'm in Star Trek ." But yeah, I mean, putting the uniform on and having the phaser in hand whilst in the Starfleet uniform was, of course, it's a moment, and it feels ... I guess I felt like I was welcomed in at that point.

I suppose it was already happening. Michael Crow, who did the costumes, has done an amazing job. I love those Starfleet leather jackets that come in later on in the season. I think that those are wonderful, and how each character had their own sort of different take on that was so nuanced and so brilliantly thought out. Yeah, I mean, it's a pinch-yourself moment wearing that stuff. It really is.

I feel like bridging off of that a little bit. You also got to be on some really cool amazing Star Trek sets. You got the bridge, the brig, the bar. What was it like to just stand there and take in all of this incredible technology and design that they put into the sets on the show?

SPELEERS: Yeah. I mean, [David] Blass, the production designer, he has gone another ... I mean, the beauty of working on this season was there were so many people creatively behind the scenes who are Trekkies, who are absolutely nuts for Star Trek , and in particular Next Gen , which just allowed this passion to come through in their creativity, which then feeds into yourself. As an actor, if you're surrounded by it, it makes your job so much more enjoyable, so much easier when you're surrounded by people like that, but also who have created this world that is so visceral to be in. I didn't want to get overly bogged down in, "Oh my God, I'm here and this is what's going on." Because if you do that too much, then it can actually become suffocating. But rather to relish and enjoy the fact that you're standing on this amazingly orchestrated set, like the Titan for example, when you've got those screens that are actually operating.

There's a whole team of people led by Larry, who's making sure that these screens work to perfection. They're working on cue. They know when certain camera angles are happening, when certain shots are happening, when certain people were talking to respond in a certain way. I mean, the whole thing is such a huge well-oiled machine. And again, to be part of that, it's a really special thing for me.

Genuinely, I cannot tell you how much the last 18 months, having been a part of that thing, has meant to me, and having been able to stand in these really cool sets and be sparring with Sir Patrick Stewart in a bar situation in Ten Forward, which is a place that's held to Picard's heart so very dearly. To be having these moments, and these great long scenes, these complex family scenes, trying to understand each other, [and] trying to understand relationships. I mean, it was a real dream for me. It was amazing.

Well, that perfectly lines with my next question. What was it like getting to act opposite a heavyweight actor like Sir Patrick Stewart?

SPELEERS: It was incredible. It really was. I feel that Patrick and I—we hit it off very quickly. When you go into bat with someone like that, you kind of feel you've got to bring it. You got to bring your A-game, I suppose, and you have to be on point. He's a very smart, astute man who doesn't let things slip, and he wants the best. He wants you to bring your best, he wants himself to bring the best. I think we pushed each other, and I think we relished that.

I've got a great deal of respect for him and a lot of love for him as well. He really was supportive of me, got behind me, and we had a lot of fun as well. We had some wonderful scenes together, and I feel very, very lucky to have ever been able to play with him and talk about... I feel very lucky that we've been able to form a bond, I think. It was a special moment. It's a special storyline because nothing like this has happened to his character before. So I feel he felt that as well.

It's definitely a very fun storyline to watch play out after seeing so much of Picard's life and then having him finally get to be a father is just so fun to watch. I feel like music is such an intrinsic part of Jean-Luc Picard's character. Did you have a song that you gravitated towards for Jack, or maybe a playlist you created?

SPELEERS: I do. I've got a whole playlist! There's certain things that did get played a lot. I'm going to have to just quickly find it. It should just come to the top of my head.

I'm very curious to know.

SPELEERS: Well, there's different things. Oh my goodness! There's so many things. Listen! Oh, I don't even know where to begin. I'm just looking through it now. Primal Scream's “Loaded” was in there. Going back to my roots, Richie Havens was in there. There's quite a lot of Oasis in there that's popped up before. There was a track that's like 30 minutes long that I just discovered whilst I was out here working. It's about 30 minutes long, it's called “Searching” by Burning Beat.

It's this South African group, and it's amazing, and it's like soul, it's funk, it's everything. It was something that I just discovered whilst I was out here working on Picard , and it just resonated with me, and it stuck with me. I felt that was something that, for whatever reason, the music within that, as I was driving out to work each morning, it would strike a chord with me, and it would get me in some sort of mindset, sometimes just a relaxed mindset, so I could then play the scenes the way I wanted to play them. There's some more emotional music in there, as well, that I listened to, but I don't want to give it all away.

How Picard Season 3 Finally Broke a Classic Star Trek “Mandate”

The New Next Generation is here.

Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine in 'Star Trek: Picard' Season 3.

It’s hard to believe, but 30 years ago, as The Next Generation began its seventh and final season, there were still vocal Trekkie haters who claimed the show wasn’t really Star Trek. How times change. What was once the “new” Star Trek — a 1987 sequel to a 1960s sci-fi series — is now retro.

In 2023, Picard Season 3 is the second coming of The Next Generation. But, according to the people who made it, this season isn’t just about looking back. The callbacks may be tied to the ‘90s, but for showrunner Terry Matalas, his cast, and crew, this season is all about pushing the franchise into a brave new style of Star Trek storytelling.

Launched in 2020 , Star Trek: Picard sought to tell ruminative down-to-Earth stories about the struggles and further adventures of a much older version of Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). Often called the Star Trek version of Logan , the tone of Picard has always been more earnest and darker than in The Next Generation. Despite its merits — including nuanced writing from Pulitzer-Prize-winning novelist Michael Chabon — aspects of Season 1 rubbed fans the wrong way. And while most hardcore fans loved the new Stargazer in Season 2, there’s debate on whether or not that season stuck the landing.

But now, it seems with Picard , the third time’s the charm. The advance buzz for Season 3 is overwhelmingly positive, with all critics noting there’s a pretty big tonal shift here. But how did it happen?

A new Picard story

Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes and Jeri Ryan in 'Picard' Season 3.

Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, and Jeri Ryan in 'Picard' Season 3.

“This season came to me very fast,” showrunner Terry Matalas tells Inverse . “I knew what all the big moves are and I had to sell it to Patrick [Stewart], to Secret Hideout, and to Paramount+ very quickly.” Matalas joined the Picard creative team after Season 1, and the tonal and aesthetic differences with Season 3 are all the result of his vision. Before joining Picard , and before helming the SyFy reboot of 12 Monkeys , Matalas was a production assistant on Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise . His nerd street cred is clear.

Although series star Patrick Stewart had initially been resistant to bringing back too many TNG characters just for the sake of it, Matalas won him over with the overall pitch for the season. Johnathan Frakes, who returns as Riker, and directs two episodes this season, was there when Matalas outlined his vision to Captain Picard himself.

“Before we started, Terry had lunch with me and Patrick [Stewart], and was very upfront about what he wanted to do,” Frakes says. “He asked if Patrick was cool with it, and Patrick was all in.”

Conflict on the Bridge

LeVar Burton as Geordi La Forge in 'Star Trek: Picard' Season 3

In Picard Season 3, the stakes are bigger, and the tone is closer to classic Star Trek feature films. “We wanted this season to be something monumental for this crew,” Matalas reveals. “It had to feel big, the same way The Undiscovered Country was for the original crew. The stakes have to be high because this is the last go at it.”

By now, most fans know that all seven cast members from The Next Generation are reunited in this season, along with a few secret surprises from the ‘90s Trek yet to be revealed. But, for the returning cast, there was a big difference between Picard Season 3, and the heyday of The Next Generation . In the ‘90s, the crew of the Enterprise didn’t argue with each other. In Picard Season 3, conflict is everywhere.

“In the original Next Gen the mandate was no conflict among the main bridge crew,” LeVar Burton says. “And that was tricky and unnatural. So, this was delicious to play, it was great fun.”

Because the show is still called Picard , you can easily guess which character Geordi La Forge (Burton) finds himself in conflict with. But he’s not the only one. Jean-Luc’s reunion with Beverly Crusher is also brimming with down-to-Earth conflict. For McFadden, the material in this season was bigger than anything she was ever able to do on TNG .

Gates McFadden as Beverly Crusher in 'Picard' Season 3.

“I wish we'd had more scenes like this earlier on,” she says. “It was fantastic because Patrick and I are both theatre actors. So, it’s wonderful to just have a scene where you can really go for it.”

Stewart agrees with McFadden and notes that part of why he even agreed to do Picard at all, was because of the tonal difference of the series. “Some experiences that these characters have had, some are good. Some are not so good,” Stewart reveals reflectively. “And that had a strong effect on me and made it possible for me to sometimes sink a bit low in mood and temperament. I think it’s closer to real life.”

A new Star Trek ship, a new crew

While the final season of Picard creates an exciting story that allows The Next Generation cast to shine in bold new ways, it’s not only about the old gang. Raffi (Michelle Hurd) and Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) — who appeared in the two previous seasons of Picard — return here. And through these characters, the future of Star Trek beyond this moment might be glimpsed. Seven, of course, originated on Star Trek: Voyager , but her arc in Picard has turned her into a much more well-rounded character. And this time out, she’s finally in Starfleet, the first officer on the USS Titan , and constantly sparring with Captain Liam Shaw, played by Todd Stashwick, probably famous to sci-fi fans for his role in the TV version of 12 Monkeys.

Todd Stashwick as Captain Liam Shaw in 'Picard' Season 3.

In the first episode, fans will notice that Shaw and Seven don’t get along. Like, at all . But Stashwick says this isn’t a mistake. It’s by design. “When choosing a first officer, you don't want someone who agrees with you,” he explains. “You want to have a dissenting opinion. You want to have someone who is the things you aren't.”

The Titan bridge is rounded out by several newcomers, too, perhaps most notably, Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut as Sidney La Forge, one of the daughters of Geordi La Forge, who is the helmsman of the new USS Titan . Chestnut tells Inverse she decided to create a consistent way to control the Titan , by repeating certain patterns with her hands. “There’s a method to my madness if you look closely at my hands!” she says with a laugh. Sidney’s journey is also bigger than it might seem. But, detailing too much about her character, or, for that matter, Ed Speleers' new role, might be a spoiler. For now, let’s just say, there are plenty of new Starfleet heroes in Picard Season 3.

The future of 25th-Century Star Trek

Patrick Stewart, Jeri Ryan, and Jonathan Frakes in 'Picard' Season 3.

(Picard) Patrick Stewart, Seven (Jeri Ryan), and Riker (Jonathan Frakes) on the bridge of the USS Titan in the debut episode Picard Season 3, “The Next Generation.”

Whether or not Star Trek: Picard Season 3 leads to a new season of a different Star Trek series remains to be seen. For now, this is the ending of this series and the ending of the story of The Next Generation crew. And the feeling will remind fans of the 1987-2005 era of Star Trek. But, Picard Season 3 is also a contemporary television show, and that means massive twists are coming, and the drama won’t unfold in the style of ‘90s Trek.

“I’m really interested in telling human stories,” Matalas says. “In terms of television, one influence on me is very much Ron Moore’s Battlestar. I like those situations where everybody's right and everybody's wrong. It’s really great dramatic territory.” Matalas explains his views on how to write effective twists and mystery boxes slightly differently than other showrunners in the business: “There is a practice in some writers' rooms that, if the audience can guess what you're doing, don't do it. And I don't subscribe to that. You have to accept the fact that the audience may guess what's going on, but they have to like it, too.”

Matalas is quick to point out he didn’t write the season by himself. He reteamed with two of his 12 Monkeys collaborators, Sean Terretta and Chris Monfette, and sings the praises of the other Picard writers, Cindy Appel, Jane Maggs, and Matt Okumura. “I had a tremendously brilliant writing staff. They worked really hard under difficult time constraints and a lot of pressure. And they shined through it all.”

Will team Matalas continue to tell stories set in the 25th Century era of Star Trek? The showrunner reveals that when one fan told him that this felt like the “beginning of the Terry Matalas era of Star Trek,” at first, he “winced.” At first.

“But, then, after I thought about it, I understood what they meant,” he says. “There is a different kind of tone here that blends a lot of different kinds of storytelling. I just hope people respond to it.”

Star Trek: Picard Season 3 debuts on Paramount+ on February 16, 2023. It will consist of 10 episodes.

Today, Paramount+ released the official poster for the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard during a panel at the Winter TCA (Television Critics Association).

Old School Cool For Picard S3

Here is the brand-new poster, which uses a classic design style…

In addition to Jean-Luc Picard, the poster features the returning Next Generation cast, including Brent Spiner playing a version of Lore along with Jeri Ryan as Seven and Michelle Hurd as Raffi. The poster also features the USS Titan-A being pursued by the Shrike, commanded by Vadic (Amanda Plummer), the main antagonist for season 3.

Last summer, Paramount+ also released a series of individual character posters  at San Diego Comic-Con.

More to come from TCA 2023

Paramount+ brought showrunner Terry Matalas and executive producer Alex Kurtzman to the TCA event along with actors Sir Patrick Stewart, Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd, Gates McFadden and Michael Dorn. Check back later for a roundup of all the big reveals from the panel.

The third and final season of  Picard  premieres on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, exclusively on  Paramount+  in the U.S., with new episodes of the 10-episode-long season available to stream weekly on Thursdays.

Picard  streams exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S.A. It is distributed concurrently by Paramount Global Content Distribution on Amazon Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories, and in Canada it airs on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel and streams on Crave.

Interesting warp effect happening on the letters of PICARD at the bottom.

Do y’all think head size is role size?

Head size usually aligns with the placement on the call sheet and the size of the role.

What I find interesting is the placement of Riker in the middle. Second largest head is consistent with Matalas having said that Riker is in every episode, but also suggests a centrality to the season’s storyline.

Exactly what I was thinking. Very Picard/Riker centered with important parts for Crusher and La Forge.

Hope there is a bigger Worf on that poster!

I hope we’re getting more Worf than his placement on the poster would indicate! Dorn is a better actor than a lot of the actors with larger heads…

Raffi is so out of place on that poster. Everyone else is a great character.

I like Worf and Seven side by side because they’ve appeared as regulars on other Trek series.

Looking good! It’s still crazy it’s even happening.

Yup, let’s face it, this is what all those people at STLV and on the internet were cheering for when Sir Patrick was introduced back in 2018.

I know he is a polarizing figure to many, but I have give kudos to Kurtzman for realizing the mistakes they made with this show and for remedying them by putting S3 into the sole hands of Matalas.

As you said elsewhere, you have heard or read feedback from those who have actually seen S3 and things are looking positive. Less than a month to go!

Yep, per usual, I am right there with you!

As you know, I don’t love all the shows and that includes Picard, but I ALWAYS support Kurtzman because he clearly listens to the complaints and issues people have and try to improve and make changes where he sees there can be improvement. End of the day, that’s all you can ask for. It doesn’t mean its all better, but it’s improving.

I’ll be very honest, look at Discovery, I still don’t love it lol. And YET nearly every complaint I had about the show in the first season has been erased. That’s the crazy thing. I didn’t like it being a prequel (but got over it by season 2), it was too dark, the Klingons (ugh), not enough exploration, feels waaaay too advanced for its period, lack of new species, the uniforms suck, the characters are too distant and unlikable (but that’s happened for other new Trek shows), giving Spock a sister and on and on and on and on and on lol.

But I look at the show today and all those issues are gone for me. They obviously listen to feedback. Now I still think the show is mostly ‘meh’ but that’s because of the #1 issue I had back in first season, it’s just not a good written show. Not awful, there are way worse shows out there, but yeah. But I can’t sit here and pretend the show hasn’t improved or evolved. That’s what is frustrating, I want to like the show more. I should like the show and I still just don’t. It’s great to see the first Trek show since TNG to be in a completely new century and setting; Kurtzman gets a lot of credit for really trying to do something innovative with a 50 year old franchise. It’s why it’s frustrating, this is wanted for a long time now. I don’t know if I’ll ever really like it, but I do give credit where it’s due.

And with Picard I’m really hoping they surprise us, but they are obviously this season has to get to right, not just as ‘legacy’ to show since it’s ending, but what’s coming after it too.

Lore. Is he wearing a Starfleet uniform? It is different from the one on the trailer. Interesting face gesture.

That does look like a Starfleet uniform to me. I wonder — if B4 couldn’t handle Data, did they try uploading him into Lore’s more advanced positronic brain, leaving the latter feeling a little conflicted and confused, and ever-more Data-like? (I appreciated the nerve of making S1 sort of a “Quest for Data” and ending it with Data being “definitively” deleted, but it also felt a little bit narratively gratuitous — Picard could have gotten over the loss without such a literal consolation.)

I have so many questions. Like in a previous post, he also has human color type of skin.

Wonder if they will end up reviving Data to fight Lore. Maybe a Data with a Golum type of body. Knowing Picard, maybe he was forced to revive his deleted files. : D

Thank you! He is totally wearing a Starfleet uniform. What is that about? This make my mind run wild! Wild I tell you!

Can’t wait to watch Season 3! Still, I prefer to wait 6-7 weeks to watch a couple of episodes all at once.

Lore has android eyes but human skin. Cool.

I’m very stoked about this! I hope it’s good!

Dear old Patrick is reportedly saying that he is open to a FOURTH series appearance….if the show can ‘maintain the quality of the first three seasons’.

Oh my sides, the sheer F-bomb hubris! :)

Since he’s saying that and also open to another TNG film, I guess the character isn’t dying (again) in season 3. ;)

Are we not getting Guinan?

Bring it home Terry. Let’s go out with a bang.

So nobody dies? That’s a relief…unless talk of a follow-up is being used to disarm us!

I’m not sure why there is so much emphasis on anyone dying since Star Trek had 5 shows in the previous era and no one died by the end in any of those except Trip in TATV and we saw how well that went over lol.

Matalas stirred the pot when he suggested some could die but I’m guessing none of the main characters would when you are planning future spin off shows and maybe another movie will finally get made before they all hit 90. In other words keep your options wide open.

Possibly because the other seasons had more death than Trek typically does, and leaned on it prettily heavily for emotional impact (not always earned). So that’s probably why folks are expecting someone’s going to get the axe for the series finale.

Absolutely agree Tiger2! As demonstrated countless times since TWOK, death is not always permanent in the Star Trek universe.

In fact, considering the omnipotence of the continuum, I would not be surprised to see Q once again deliver those words… “au contraire mon capitan! He’s back!”

Looks like the latest plate from Hamilton

Not enough skin smoothing. LOL

Looks like a plate

For a second I thought this was the poster of The Expanse Season 5.

They should make these available. I can imagine there would be a few collectors out there that would want one.

I’m getting strong “Trust Terry” vibes from this poster.

Star Trek: Cocoon.

Interesting that Data is the low man on the totem pole.

star trek picard season 3 uniforms

Uniforms from Picard.

-Added a standalone for a jacket that was worn by (mostly) the original Enterprise cast.

-The trigger is "pcdjck,Star trek jacket,<color> shoulders" where <color> is red, yellow or blue.

-It works best for yellow.

-In the show it was worn with a black colarless shirt, add ing "black shirt" will sometimes generate it, by mostly it will have a collar, or will cover a neck. You can try to add "collarbone" to get the original version. But as seen in my examples basically anything should work with the jacket.

TITAN CREW UNIFORMS

Basic trigger is "pcdst,Star trek uniform,<color>", where <color> is red, blue or yellow but you can add ",<color> shoulders, black jumpsuit" to reinforce the uniform.

As always, its good practice to add "headless" in the neg.

  18. Uniforms? : r/Picard

Yeah, Trek has gone crazy with a ton more uniforms over the last few years. With Picard, it's definitely in overdrive. But between three different Starfleet costume designs in DSC, the LD design, the SNW redesign of the DSC redesign of the TOS uniform, and now too many designs to count from Picard, I can only assume this is probably explained by a desire to increase licensed costume sales.
