Best Time Of Year To Visit Niagara Falls

The summer months are generally considered the best time to visit Niagara . The weather is nicest from June to August. Although this is also the busiest time!

In my opinion, September is the best time to visit as the crowds start to die down by then, but the weather is still warm and sunny.

Although, surprisingly, winter is actually also a great time to visit! Sometimes sections of the falls will freeze over which is quite a unique sight to see. Plus the landscape is particularly beautiful when it’s covered in snow.

Niagara Falls Tours From Toronto: view of Niagara falls partially frozen in winter, with mist rising from below

What time of the year is Niagara Falls least busy?

Niagara is least busy in late fall and early spring, when school is still in session. If you’re looking to avoid the crowds, visiting in November or April would likely be the best time.

When can you see fall colours at Niagara Falls?

Fall colours are usually at their peak in mid to late October at Niagara. However, depending on the weather, you may be able to see them as early as late September, or as late as early November.

Fall is a great time to visit Niagara. The waterfalls look particularly stunning while surrounded by hues of yellow, orange and red. And this is the absolute best time to drive the Niagara Parkway, as it’s one of the best places to see fall foliage in Ontario.

Niagara Falls FAQs

Is one day enough to see niagara falls.

You can easily see the falls in just one day. The best way to do this is by booking a day tour from Toronto . Or if you’re coming from the US, there are also various day and half-day tours which start there.

What can you do on a day trip to Niagara Falls?

There are so many activities to do on a Niagara day trip. In particular, to get the best views of the falls I recommend doing a Niagara City Cruise , going up the Skylon Tower , or even taking a helicopter flight over the falls !

Other must-do activities in the Niagara region include driving the Niagara Parkway, visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake and doing a local winery tour .

Is there an entry fee for Niagara Falls?

No, seeing Niagara Falls is actually free. But, to fully experience the Falls, you will likely want to book some activities. And, if you’re not driving in your own car, getting to and from the falls also comes at a cost. The best way to get there is by booking a day tour which includes transport, or renting a car .

How much does a Niagara Falls day tour cost?

Niagara Falls day tours tend to range anywhere from around $70 USD ($90 CAD) to $250 USD ($330 CAD), depending on what’s included.

Niagara Falls Tours From Toronto: View of the falls surrounded by orange and red fall foliage

Is Niagara Falls better at night or day?

Niagara Falls is spectacular during both the day and night. During the day, you can see the full view of the majestic falls and the detail of the cascading water. Whereas at night, the falls are lit up with colourful lights and a fireworks display on Wednesday and Friday evenings in the summer.

To see the Falls during both the day and night, you can book a Niagara Day and Evening Tour with a boat cruise and dinner .

Can you see both sides of Niagara Falls in one day?

Yes, both sides of the falls are close to each other and are connected by the Rainbow Bridge . You can either drive or walk across to the other side. Although remember this is an international border, so you will need to have your travel documents with you to cross.

Do you need a passport for Niagara Falls?

If you’re planning to stay on the side of Niagara Falls you’re already on, you don’t need a passport. However, if you want to cross to the other side of the falls, you will need your passport and a visa (or visa-exemption), if applicable.

The tour departs/returns from the Fairmont Royal York hotel which is across the street from Union Station. Yes. Our tours go rain or shine.

How long is the drive between Toronto and Niagara Falls?

Can you accommodate large groups?

Yes. We can accommodate groups of any size.

Why should I book this tour?

There is a walk of approximately 10 to 15 minutes to get from the vehicle to the boat dock. The walk from the boat dock to the vehicle is slightly uphill. Red Arrows Touch Down in Nova Scotia to Begin 2024 Canadian Tour

The British High Commission is excited to welcome the UK's Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team —the Red Arrows—to Canada for their Maple Hawk 2024 tour in Canada.

Red Arrows flying over lighthouse.

The British High Commission to Canada is excited to welcome the United Kingdom’s Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team (RAFAT)—best known as the Red Arrows—as they touch down in Greenwood, Nova Scotia to kick off the highly anticipated Maple Hawk 2024 tour in Canada. Invited by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) to mark its centennial and, concurrently, celebrate the Red Arrows 60th Diamond Season, this landmark tour presents a unique opportunity for aviation fans and the general public to experience a series of spectacular air displays and ground activities by one of the world’s most recognisable aerobatic display teams over five weeks.

The Red Arrows will tour across six Canadian cities taking part in a series of Canadian airshows, beginning with a grand arrival in Nova Scotia at the renowned Greenwood Military Aviation Museum. They will also perform four “flypasts” in iconic locations, which will be visible for free to the public: at Niagara Falls, the Old Port of Montreal, the harbour of St. John’s, and through central Ottawa. Following the jets’ arrival, the Red Arrows will take to the skies at Air Show Atlantic , marking the team’s first public appearance as part of Maple Hawk.

The tour is a significant occasion, spotlighting the strong defence, trade and business links, as well as the cultural and historical bonds between the UK and Canada. From the British Red Arrows to the Canadian Snowbirds display team, these national ambassadors reinforce the reputation of each nation for innovation, expertise and skill.

The inaugural stop will also highlight the importance of STEM studies, showcasing the excellence of the Royal Air Force engineers, technicians and support team in inspiring the next generation of STEM leaders. To further this goal, the British High Commission Ottawa and the Red Arrows have partnered with Let’s Talk Science , a registered Canadian charitable organisation dedicated to advancing education and skills development for children and youth in Canada through STEM initiatives.

British High Commissioner to Canada, Susannah Goshko CMG, stated:

It is a tremendous honour for the RCAF to invite the Red Arrows to Canada, particularly in this landmark year. At each stop of their tour, alongside treating crowds to a stunning aerobatic performance, the Red Arrows will engage with young people to showcase the UK’s excellent science and innovation credentials. We hope these memorable experiences will inspire these potential future leaders to pursue a STEM qualification from one of the UK’s world-class universities.

The Red Arrows aim to captivate audiences with their distinctive blend of precision formation flying and exhilarating aerobatic manoeuvres, showcasing the team’s commitment to excellence and military distinction. This year’s routine features a new display that revives the iconic Diamond Nine formation for the first time since 2021. Each leg of the tour reinforces the deep and enduring military ties between the Red Arrows and the RCAF, symbolising their collaborative spirit and shared history.

Brigadier Edward Sandry OBE, stated:

Each airshow and flypast will offer the public an engaging spectacle, crafted by a team of skilled engineers, support staff, and experienced pilots. The Maple Hawk tour aims to highlight the strong bond between our two nations’ militaries. We hope that thousands of Canadians will be inspired by the Red Arrows’ display of teamwork and talent.

Following Greenwood, the Maple Hawk 2024 tour will take the Red Arrows through the following Canadian cities for public viewing and interaction:

  • Air Show Atlantic – Greenwood Aviation Museum, Nova Scotia (August 24 and August 25)
  • Niagara Falls flypast - Niagara Falls, Ontario (August 28)
  • Canadian International Air Show – Toronto, Ontario (August 31, September 1 and 2)
  • Ottawa River flypast - Ottawa, Ontario (September 4)
  • AERO Gatineau-Ottawa – Gatineau-Ottawa Executive Airport (September 7 and 8)
  • Airshow London – London International Airport, Ontario (September 13, 14 and 15)
  • Montreal Old Port flypast - St. Lawrence, Montreal (September 18)
  • St. John’s flypast - St. John’s Waterfront (September 20)
