Japan Golf Holidays

Golf packages in japan.

Japan is a magnificent country and well worth visiting for a vacation. Known for its incredible scenery, people, culture, architecture and food, Japan is a special place to visit and comes alive during a golf holiday.

Can you imagine what it would be like to play a stunning par-3 hole with a view of Mount Fuji in the background? You can turn that thought into reality by booking a fantastic Japan golf package. Regardless of whether you have a group of golf courses in mind you would like to play and need assistance to book your rounds of golf and accommodation or you are looking for a ready-made package, you will find it all here.

The only difficulty you will have when planning a Japan golf holiday is choosing which area of the country to visit. Japan is divided into over 40 different prefectures and five main islands, which are Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu and Okinawa. The time of year to book a Japan golf holiday will depend on which region of the country would like to visit. For example, Hokkaido in the north is best visited during the summer months of April through to October.

We have a complete range of Japan golf packages to choose from in Hokkaido. The Sapporo Stay and Play Package is a good example and by booking this you will stay in the city of Sapporo and make short journeys each day to the best golf courses in the region. Kitahiroshima Golf Club is a must-visit when in Hokkaido and here you will find a selection of 3 different 18 hole golf courses to play, meaning you could remain at this golf club and enjoy a different challenge each day.

Other top golf courses in Hokkaido which you could add to a Japan golf holiday include Hokkaido Brooks Country Club Golf Club, Gozensui Golf Club, Niseko Village Golf Course and Hanazono Golf Course.

However, if you would like to visit Japan to play golf between November and March you can do so by travelling to Okinawa. This is the southernmost of the five main Japanese islands and therefore enjoys a humid subtropical climate. It may be the smallest and least populated of the five main islands of Japan but there are some cracking golf courses to play including Emerald Coast Golf Links, PGM Golf Resort Okinawa and The Southern Links Golf Club.

For those who would like to base their Japan golf package around the capital city of Tokyo, you have many options in terms of golf courses. Some of which such as Hakone-en Golf Course and Nakaizu Green Club include spectacular views of Mount Fuji which cannot be missed. Mie Prefecture is also a highly rated region of Japan for golf lovers. Very easy to reach from anywhere in Japan, Mie Prefecture is on Honshu island and boasts over 20 different golf courses. You could easily stay in this region of Japan for well over a week and be left wanting to come back for more.

It must be mentioned that golf in Japan is considered an all-day affair. The front nine is usually normally played in the morning with an hour’s break for lunch. The back nine is commenced after lunch with particular focus attributed to the midday meal.

Where meals are included in the tour, the venue will be revealed each morning.

The timings are indicative and will be updated prior to departure.

Where group movements between hotels occurs, luggage will be securely trucked to the next destination separately from the group. We advise taking a day pack with your essentials because your luggage will not be accessible until we reach the hotel.

Day 1 – Arrivals

The time has come for your ultimate Japanese adventure. On arrival, you’ll be escorted to Hotel New Otani (based on arrivals into Haneda Airport. Narita airport arrivals will incur extra transfer fees due to extra distance from the airport to Tokyo).

This evening is free to spend at your leisure. We keep this night free to ensure everyone arrives on time for the welcome dinner.

Day 2  – Golf Day

Today we launch right into a warm-up round of golf at the Club at Ryugasaki. Golf in Japan is an intriguing all-day affair, with no afternoon tee-times due to the elongated length of time you’ll spend at the venue. The Japanese are very punctual people, and focus on spending time at a golf club to make every second count. Lunch between nines is over an hour long, so sit back, relax and enjoy life done in a different format.

This evening is our official welcome dinner you’ll enjoy a traditional Japanese specialty: Shabu Shabu, which is where a meal is cooked in a hot pot, bursting with flavours. Tonight is a great time to meet everyone over a casual meal, and we’ll have a speech to welcome you to Japan and explain how things will run.

Day 3 – Tokyo Full Day Tour

After breakfast at your leisure, make sure you pack a camera as today is our first official sightseeing day. We’ll load onto our private coach with a tour guide to explore Tokyo, one of the most densley populated regions on earth. This tour will visit:

  • The Imperial Palace
  • Nakamisse Street, Sensoji Shrine
  • Omotesando Street

The evening is free to spend at your leisure.

Day 4 – Golf Day

Today we play one of the most scenic golf courses on our itinerary: Camellia Hills Country Club. We’ll enjoy breakfast at the club as we prepare for the day ahead. This beautiful parkland golf course features plenty of forests, bunkers, water hazards and tough greens. One particular thing to note are the flowers you’ll encounter – be sure to pack a camera!

Day 5 – Full Day Tour

After breakfast at your leisure, we’ll take a private transfer and start a full-day tour of the following locations:

  • Mt Fuji’s 5th Station
  • Homagatake Ropeway

Included meals are breakfast, lunch and dinner. As always, take your camera & enjoy the ride as our expert tour guide will explain the places we visit and provide an insight into this ancient, yet modern culture.

After a full day seeing the sights, we’ll transfer to the Sengokuhara Prince Hotel for three nights.

Day 6 – Golf Day

Today we’ve got a round of golf scheduled at Dai Hakone Country Club at Kanagawa. This is one of the best golf courses on our itinerary. Surrounded by the beautiful Sengoku Hills, this parkland course has been landscaped to amazing standards. Designed by Komyo Otani, this course opened in 1954 and has hosted various national tournaments. This is a championship golf course. The signature hole is the 17th, known as the “Lotus Flower” due to its incredible green surrounded by tricky bunkers.

We’re lucky to be staying at the resort onsite, so after golf you can relax, enjoy an onsen and an evening free at your leisure.

Day 7 – Golf Day

This morning we’ll transfer to Shizuoka for a round of golf at the famous Kawana Hotel’s Oshima Course. This is a fantastic seaside parkland course that plays at some elevation on the Izu Peninsula, south of Tokyo. Enjoy the transfer out as it’s a beautiful drive south from Sengokuraha. The Kawana Hotel opened in 1928 and has become one of Japan’s most well-known golf destinations.

After golf, we’ll return to the Prince Hotel for one more night free to spend at your leisure.

Day 8 – Kyoto Half-day Tour

After two days of golf, it’s time for some more sightseeing. We’ll pack up & take a private coach to Odawara Station, before hopping on a Bullet Train to Kyoto which was once the capital city of Japan. We’ll enjoy a half-day tour this afternoon. The highlights of today include:

  • Odawara Station
  • Bullet Train
  • To-Ji Temple

After our sightseeing day, we’ll check into the Granvia Hotel for two nights.

Day 9 – Full Day Tour

After breakfast at your leisure, we’ll don our cameras and head out for a full-day tour of Kyoto, one of the most spectacular cities in the world, known for its ancient traditions and beautiful architecture. We’ll visit:

  • Arashiyama, Bamboo Path
  • Kiyomizudera Temple, Sannen Zaka Street

After our tour, the evening is free to spend at your leisure. Perhaps you’ll join the tour leaders as we find a local Ramen or Gyoza restaurant?

Day 10 – Half Day Tour

After breakfast at your leisure, we’ll check-out and take a private coach to Nara, where you’ll come face to face with wild deer and see some of the most important sites, including:

  • Todaiji Temple (Wild Deer)

After sightseeing, we’ll transfer right to Rihga Royal in Osaka for two nights. Included in the tour is dinner at a local restaurant where you can take your pick of the best menu items from a buffet exclusively for ourselves.

Day 11, Thursday 11 April – Golf Day

For our next round of golf, we’re heading to Golden Valley Golf Club at Hyogo, which was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr in the 1980s. The golf course was carved from a pine forest with plenty of amazing scenery to enjoy. This is a long golf course presenting plenty of challenges, but it is also one of the most spectacular with streams, lakes and hills incorporated into the design.

After golf, we’ll head back to the hotel and enjoy an evening spent at your leisure.

Day 12 – Travel & Tour Day

Today, we’ll enjoy a fun day of sightseeing as we travel from Osaka to Hiroshima. The weather gradually gets warmer as we head to more tropical areas further south on the main island of Honshu. Today’s sites include;

  • Bullet Train – Osaka – Hiroshima

We can guarantee this will be one of the most memorable days on tour. Afterwards, we check into Hotel Granvia Hiroshima for one night.

Day 13 – Travel & Tour Day

There is so much to discover in this wonderful country, our sightseeing barely scratches the surface. Today, we’ll travel from Hiroshima to Fukuoka, enjoying the following:

On arrival in Fukuoka, we’ll transfer directly to Hotel New Otani Hakata for three nights. This evening is free to spend at your leisure but there is always an open invitation to join your hosts at a local restaurant.

Day 14  – Golf

For our second last round of golf, we’ll visit Fukuoka Century Golf Club, which is a beautiful course designed with flowers and trees as a central pillar of course construction. This golf course is located on a flat stretch of land beside a set of hills, but it requires the use of every club in your bag.

After golf, the evening is free to spend at your leisure in Hakata, which is not far from Fukuoka’s main town area.

Day 15, Golf

For our final round of golf, we head to Central Fukuoka Golf Club, which is situated over rolling hills which are characteristic of Japan’s topography. This parkland course was designed to blend harmoniously with native cedars and cherry trees. This is a golf course that everyone can enjoy, no matter your handicap.

After golf, we’ll head back to the hotel to freshen up before our final Farewell Dinner at   a local restaurant. This is where we’ll say our goodbyes, enjoying a final meal to remember the good times before we all head off around the world, returning home after a wonderful few weeks spent in Japan!

Day 16 – Departures

After breakfast at your leisure, you’ll be transferred to Fukuoka Airport for your departure home. An alternative option is to get a Shinkansen bullet train back to Tokyo (5 hrs).

Can I bring my non-golfer partner?

Of course you can. Our tours are specifically designed so non-golfing partners enjoy the trip as much as their golfing partners. Our hotels are always central to towns and popular activities. We also create non-golfer itineraries that are crafted with the interests of the non-golfers in mind and that means we consult with you before we book any non-golfer activity.

Do I need a certain handicap to join this tour?

No, our golf tours are accepting of all golfers. Depending on the destination, some golf courses require you to have a certain handicap, and this will be expressed prior to any booking confirmation. Otherwise, you are welcome to join our golf tour as they are always inclusive.

What happens on tour?

Escorted golf tours are one of the most enjoyable types of holidays. Our groups are small and everyone gets to know each other on a first-name basis early-on in the tour.

On a golf day, breakfast is usually taken between 6:30 - 08.30, and our first tee-times are usually mid-morning. This allows for the early risers and late-goers to enjoy a two-hour period for breakfast. We like to keep the afternoons free for sightseeing, resort relaxation, shopping or general downtime. We usually restrict each day to having one activity, whether it's a half-day tour or round of golf, it's usually quite relaxed.

Apart from the welcome dinner and farewell dinner, we usually keep evenings free to enjoy whichever destination you are in. If you are travelling by yourself, the tour leaders have an open invitation to dine with them; if this is the case, you're in for a real treat as the tour leaders know where to go for the best meals. We always stay in destinations where local restaurants are either a short walk or short transfer away, so there are plenty of options to dine.

What is the make-up of your tour guests?

Over the decades, our tours average the following guest ratio: 70% couples, 30% singles. Our tours are comprised on average of 55% male and 45% female. One fact we are proud of is that our tours enjoy an average of 70% or higher repeat guest rate .

Are you an accredited travel company?

Absolutely. We are firm believers in travelling safely and with transparency. See our full list of accreditation here .

ABN: 18 653 731 876

ACN: 061 223 998

How do I compare the cost with other operators?

We are very transparent with our pricing. The easiest way to compare costs is to take the tour cost and divide it by the number of  nights on the tour . Then, compare this per-night rate with other operators' tours. You'll find that some operators use the number of days to inflate numbers but the industry uses the nightly rate as the correct basis.

If you are trying to compare two tours, do the above equation and compare other factors including:

  • Number of people (big tours mean less per person costs, but travelling as part of a large group isn't always as fun)
  • Included activities
  • Quality of golf courses on the tour
  • Location of Hotels & quality of Hotels (are they near restaurants or do you have to catch a taxi to the closest restaurant?)

Voyages.golf has market-leading prices due to our long-established relationships with suppliers. We go out of the way to secure the best deals for our tours to bring costs down but also provide a sensational experience to maximise comfort and enjoyment for all participants. If you have any doubts or are comparing the costs between operators, feel free to let us know and we'll talk you through it.

Golf in Japan

Japan golf courses.

Japan's best golf courses available for review on:

www.golfasian.com

Golfing in Japan is not as expensive as most golfers think, and with meticulous attention to detail and typical Japanese quality, golf in Japan will surprise and delight those searching for great golf in Asia.

Golf in Japan offers some of the most beautiful golf courses in the world, especially if you’re willing to travel an hour or two outside the city. Many of them have been designed by the leading golf course design firms from the West to resemble famous courses such as Pebble Beach and Augusta National.

Many Japan golf courses offer amenities (such as driving ranges, pro shops, restaurants and overnight facilities) to help you enjoy the experience, and some offer conveniences you wouldn’t find in the West (like Japanese hot spring baths and mahjong rooms). Even if you’re only a casual golfer, you’ll enjoy the cultural experience of golfing in Japan where few of your friends and business partners have.

Due to the slow economy, many Japan golf courses that had been for members only are now opening at least partly to non-members. Combined with some beautiful public courses which never required membership in order to play, Japan now offers a full range of courses of every size, level of difficulty and level of service to the general public. And with the yen losing so much of its value since its 1995 peak at 80 yen to the dollar, many of these Japan golf courses are affordable for the first time to non-Japanese business travellers, tourists and golfers from around the world. Golf Japan, Asia’s golf paradise.

Golf is a very popular sport in Japan as it is in Asia. Since space for golf courses is limited, golf club membership fees are very high. However, there are public driving ranges throughout the country where golf lovers without a club membership, can practice. These driving ranges are big constructions that are wrapped in large green nets. One can see these constructions everywhere, even in the middle of cities. Often balls can be played from two or more floors in order to allow a greater number of players to practice at the same time.

Even if you’re only a casual Asia golfer, you’ll enjoy the cultural experience of golfing in Japan where few of your friends and business partners have. And you’ll have joined the likes of Tiger Woods, Mark O’Meara, Nick Price, Brad Hughes and other pros who have found Japanese courses to be among the most challenging in the world.

It’s a fact that many of the golf courses around Tokyo are less expensive, more convenient, more challenging and offer more excitement than those found in Australia, Canada, the United States or Europe! All part of what makes Golf in Asia great!

LIV golfer Jon Rahm appeals European tour fines and is clear to play in Spanish Open

Jon Rahm on Thursday appealed the European tour sanctions against him for playing the LIV Golf circuit, allowing him to play the Spanish Open and other European tour events until an independent panel decides if he must pay fines.

Rahm's formal appeal was a pivotal move because it allows him a chance to reach the minimum four European tour starts required to be considered for the Ryder Cup next year.

Rahm, a former Masters champion and world No. 1, joined the Saudi-funded league late last year for a signing bonus reported to be in the $300 million to $400 million range.

Other players who defected to LIV, Tyrrell Hatton and Adrian Meronk, are going through the same appeal and are allowed into tournaments as the process plays out.

Hatton played the British Masters two weeks ago. Both are entered in the Spanish Open.

The European tour said in a statement, “Jon Rahm has a pending appeal against sanctions imposed on him and in accordance with the DP World Tour’s Regulations, he is eligible to participate in the (Spanish Open) later this month.”

The DP World Tour is the commercial name of the European tour.

“I don't intend to pay the fines, and we keep trying to have a discussion with them about how we can make this happen,” Rahm said on Wednesday from LIV Golf Chicago, where he is battling Joaquin Niemann for the individual title worth $18 million to the winner.

Rahm said he has entered the Dunhill Links Championship and the Andalucia Masters. That would give him four starts because the Olympics counts toward the minimum.

The appeals process is the same as it was when several Europeans first joined LIV Golf in the summer of 2022. An independent panel, Sport Resolutions, ruled in April 2023 the players committed serious breaches and the European tour was within its rights to penalize them.

“I'm glad Jon decided to appeal and he can play his events in which he wants to play and be eligible,” European captain Luke Donald said Thursday from the Irish Open. “I know the Ryder Cup means so much to him, and I’m sure that was a massive factor in his decision.”

Rahm is primarily opposed to being fined for playing LIV events opposite tournaments he had never played or did not intend to play. Among European tour events opposite LIV this year were stops in Bahrain, South Africa, Japan, China and the Czech Republic.

“He has his thoughts and he doesn’t agree with the fines and paying fines, especially for events that he would never have played on the DP World Tour. But those rules are the rules, and they were certainly in place when he signed with LIV,” Donald said.

Donald said he hoped golf's landscape would be different before the September 2025 matches at Bethpage Black. Executives with the PGA Tour and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia met this week in New York to continue negotiations about PIF becoming a minority investor in PGA Tour Enterprises and what that would mean for players on both sides.

The tour and PIF first had a framework agreement announced in June 2023.

“I'll take today as a nice little victory for me personally to know that Jon is eligible and can play his three events now," Donald said. “What happens in the future, I can't tell. What happens in 15 months, I think all of us thought something more would happen.”

How to see the wild side of Japan

Beyond the bustling streets of Japan's inner-city metropolis' lies a variety of dramatic, ever-changing landscapes. From sinuous jungles and white-sand beaches to tectonic land formations, here's where to experience the best of Japan's extremes.

Straddling four tectonic plates, Japan’s landscape buckles and ruptures at the whims of the fiery Pacific Rim. The result is dramatic: a beautiful, ever-changing crust that concertinas, gurgles and fissures into rippled mountains, hot springs and ocean trenches.

This trip explores the best of the country’s contrasting scenery. It begins in Hokkaido, the most northerly part of the archipelago, and finishes in the islands of Japan’s southerly Okinawa Prefecture. Reaching a latitude of 45°N, Hokkaido can receive 50 feet of snow in winter, while spring sees Ussuri brown bears shake hibernation from their shaggy coats.

A day’s bullet train ride south brings travellers to the centre of Honshu island, where the Japanese Alps surge into the sky. Whitewater rafters can rush through the foothills, while hikers conquer treacherous peaks or wander picturesque old trade routes.

Southbound flights to Naha from Tokyo or Osaka bring you next to Okinawa, where Japan’s landmass peters out into a subtropical archipelago of green turtles and white sands. Once home to the Ryukyu Kingdom, the region later became a Second World War battleground and is now a haven for snorkellers and divers.

1. Daisetsuzan National Park Hokkaido’s wild interior is home to Japan’s largest national park, nicknamed ‘the Playground of the Gods’. An inferno of sulphur and obsidian rock, seasonal blooms and belching terracotta calderas, it’s a region with isolated onsen (hot springs) and scene-stealing treks. Climb the Asahidake stratovolcano (7,516ft), traverse gorges and spot local wildlife such as loping brown bears and the anime-inspiring pika, a round-eared rabbit relative.

2. Noboribetsu In Shikotsu-Toya National Park, Noboribetsu on the southwest coast is one of Japan’s best onsen resorts. The town’s ryokan (traditional inns) are fed with geothermal waters, while its streets are crowded with comical demon statues as a nod to Jigokudani (‘Hell Valley’): a   barren white-and-red landscape to the north.

3. The Japanese Alps The best whitewater rafting is found on the east edge of the Japanese Alps, on the Tone River, with tours from the town of Minakami. Japan’s second-longest waterway pours from Mount Ominakami in a riot of snow-cold froth, with class 4+ rapids in spring, mellowing out to class 1–2 towards summer. After drying off, head some 120 miles west into the mountains to hike the old Nakasendo trade route through cypress forests around the town of Magome, or   tackle formidable peaks in Kamikochi.

Rock formations standing on a white sand beach with clear turquoise waters

4. Kerama islands A half-hour ferry ride west of Okinawa’s namesake main island, a smattering of smaller isles make up Kerama-shoto National Park. With brilliant aquamarine seas, they’re a popular day trip and have some of Japan’s best diving and snorkelling — but it’s worth staying overnight in a local guesthouse. Walk off Zamami Island’s white-sand beaches into turtle-filled waters, dive Aka’s reefs while spotting lionfish and pufferfish, and watch nursing humpback whales from the breeze-blown coast (December to April). seasir.com

5. Yanbaru While Okinawa’s south is largely given over to Ryukyu culture and war memorials, its north is thick with sinuous jungle. Called Yanbaru, this UNESCO-listed national park area is home to endangered and endemic species including the flightless Okinawa rail and Ryukyu long-tailed giant rat. A highlight is the 40-minute forest trail hike to Hiji Falls. In Yanbaru’s north, visit the sprawling banyan trees of Daisekirinzan — a natural shrine.

Rory McIlroy not trying to send any 'message' with exhibition against LIV Golf stars

Rory McIlroy has been critical of LIV Golf since it began in 2021.

Rory McIlroy said his decision to join forces with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and take on LIV Golf stars Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka was motivated by pleasing golf fans and not a way to help foster a deal that can bring the sport back together.

"It's a way to show golf fans in the world that this is what could happen or these are the possibilities going forward," McIlroy continued. "I've been saying this for a long time. I think golf and golf fans (should) get to see us together more than four times a year."

The PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which finances LIV Golf, announced last week that they are planning to meet in New York about a potential investment in the hopes of repairing men's professional golf. Wednesday was the 23rd anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that crashed four commercial jets at New York's World Trade Center as well as at the Pentagon and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

"Yeah, it's certainly peculiar timing," McIlroy said of the meeting. " I don't know much about the talks that are going on. I know that there is, but that's not something that I'm a part of.

"I think we are all in the game of golf trying to look for a solution to all this and try to move forward. So we'll see, yeah. I know as much as you do at this point, and I'm sure news will start to trickle out here in the next few days."

McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Adam Scott are part of the PGA Tour Enterprises transactional subcommittee, which has been negotiating with the PIF. McIlroy has expressed his frustration since the creation of LIV Golf, which began in 2021 and has splintered the sport.

But despite the current state of men's golf, McIlroy remains hopeful that a deal can be worked out.

"I think everyone in the game would love there to be one (a resolution)," McIlroy said.

"A solution is hard to get to because there are different interests and people want different things. There's going to have to be compromise on both sides but, hopefully, they're the things they're talking about in those meetings.

"I'm hopeful and hopefully we'll be hearing some good news in the foreseeable future where things start to come back together."

Golf Guide & Links

Some aspects of golfing in Japan may be different from your home country. Learn the general booking procedure for a round of golf, rules that may be unique to the Japanese way of play, and common courtesies practiced at golf clubs in Japan to make your game experience smoother and stress-free.

How to book a round of golf in Japan

Japan’s most prestigious courses are often members-only, though some allow non-members to play for a fee. Reservations at these and Japan’s many public courses are typically made over the phone, or through the course’s official website. Green fees vary from course to course, and are usually discounted on weekdays. Clubs and carts can usually be rented, and caddies can be hired for an additional fee. Please confirm whether a caddy can speak English when making a reservation.

What you need to know about golf in Japan

Golf is typically an all-day event in Japan. Some clubs allow play through, but on most 18-hole courses players are required to take an hour-long lunch break before moving on to the back nine.  Courses in Japan have a couple of unique rules international players may not be familiar with, for example yellow flags and OB tees. Yellow flags are often placed on the fairway about 230 yards (the average driving distance for most golfers here) from the tee. This is to show the recommended line and also for safety, as players are expected to wait for the group ahead of them to pass this flag before teeing off. There can also be a forward tee rule for tee shots that go out of bounds. This is intended to speed up play. Instead of playing a 3rd shot, you simply move to the designated forward tees (usually where a good drive should land) and you play your 4th shot from there.

golf tour in japan

Players are also expected to wear appropriate attire during the game; typically a collared shirt with slacks or a skirt for ladies, and always golf shoes or sneakers. In summer time, most courses are OK with shorts, however some may require knee-length socks. Some high-end clubs will require men to wear a jacket inside the clubhouse. Most clubhouse facilities in Japan will have an extensive locker room featuring an onsen hot spring or bath, so players can soak their muscles and relax. It is advisable to confirm the dress code and etiquette in advance (usually mentioned on the club's website).
