The Best Travel Vloggers on YouTube in 2022

If you’re anything like me, your YouTube home feed includes a lot of travel stories, with food and travel vloggers, around the world explorers, van life channels, and outdoor adventurers.

Watching travel videos helps me decide where to travel next in the world, and what exactly to do once I get there.

In person travel around the world is difficult with the pandemic right now, so I’ve loved watching travel adventures virtually from my favorite YouTubers. It’s a wonderful way to mentally escape the stress and uncertainty of the last year.

YouTube has more than 2 billion (yes, that’s billion with a b ) monthly logged in users. If you’re a prospective travel vlogger, getting your videos on YouTube can be as easy as filming a video, editing with a video editor , and uploading. Because getting started on YouTube can be so simple, that’s meant plenty of vloggers, with interesting stories to tell, are on the platform.

Many of my favorite vloggers introduce viewers to bucket list travel adventures around the world, while others stay closer to home.

Several travel bloggers on this list, like Kara and Nate, made the transition from around-the-word travel videos to van life during the pandemic. Others have bought and renovated isolated cabins, while others continue their adventures locally.

I enjoy watching their current adventures, but it’s also a great time to dig back in the archives and watch older videos. I even check out a few classic travel TV shows from time to time!

Kara and Nate 2.1 Million YouTube Subscribers

I just found Kara and Nate’s channel in the last year. It’s fantastic, and I wish I’d found it sooner! Kara and Nate are a husband and wife team from Nashville Tennessee, who traveled to 100 countries before travel slowed down in 2020.

The production quality of this channel is fantastic, with high quality videography, and great audio as well. These days, they’re making content driving through the USA in a van, with plenty of stops at interesting accommodations and attractions along the way.

Eamon and Bec 782K YouTube subscribers

Eamon and Bec are a Canadian couple that I started watching when they were travelling around Europe and Morocco in their self converted Sprinter van. There’s plenty of gorgeous content on here about their travels, their vegan recipes (they even have a vegan cookbook), and life on the road.

These days, Eamon and Bec are vlogging about renovating their cabin in the woods of Ontario, Canada.

Foresty Forest 245K YouTube subscribers

Foresty Forest is the real deal, if you’re interested in bicycle touring, ascending mountains, and the great outdoors. His crockpot makes frequent appearances, with simple home cooked meals made in the van.

This is old school YouTube, without paid sponsorships, or paid reviews.

You’ll find yourself singing the insanely catchy theme song, “ Foresty Forest, he lives in a van… Foresty Forest! “

I always catch myself smiling when there’s a new Foresty Forest upload.

Favorite video: Living in a Minivan During Freezing Temperatures

Christian Schaffer – 70K subscribers

Christian makes her living as an outdoor adventure and travel photographer, and was a former Abercrombie model and retail manager.

As you’d expect, her travel videography is beautiful, but the channel is also packed full of thoughtful, intelligent tips about van life, making money, and life in general.

The Wild Card: Tom Green 267K YouTube subscribers

Bet you didn’t expect to find Tom Green on this list!

Tom is best known as a comedian, whose career started on MTV in the 1990s. He’s known for quirky and often pretty juvenile comedy like the Bum Bum Song , the Slutmobile , and Hollywood films Road Trip and Charlie’s Angels, as well as being married to Drew Barrymore in the early 2000s.

These days, Green seems a lot more introspective, as he’s vlogging his van life with his adorable dog, Charlie. Green’s still a quirky mix, with gorgeous cinematography, visits to stunning and out of the way places, musical offerings, and rambling, free-form live streams.

Slim Potatohead 129K YouTube subscribers

Slim Potatohead is something of an outlier among travel vlogs.

There’s definitely good videography and storytelling here, but this is not the vlog for you if you’re looking for fast paced, high excitement travel. Slim meanders along on his adventures, and it often seems like very little happens in a given blog. That said, he’s definitely an authentic voice that’s well worth checking out.

He travels pulling a small older trailer, spending plenty of time off grid in nature. Older videos feature the USA and Mexico, but these days he’s focusing on travel within Canada. There are videos on frugal camper renovations, camping spots, and plenty of exploring and meandering.

Mark Wiens 7.28 Million YouTube subscribers

Enthusiastic and energetic, Mark Wiens is a food vlogger who shares about South East Asia from his home base in Bangkok, Thailand.

I was first introduced to Mark’s Migrationology blog back in 2012, and I’ve loved following his transition to being one of YouTube’s most popular food and travel vloggers.

He features plenty of street food videos, with a strong focus on Thai food and travel.

Tyler and Todd 77K YouTube subscribers

Tyler and Todd are one of my absolute favorite channels. They’re funny, engaging, and have absolutely gorgeous videography and solid audio.

They’re a Canadian couple who travel with their adorable dogs Charlie and Eddy.

Because of the pandemic, they’re currently not traveling, but I’ve loved following along as they make a home in Nova Scotia, building an off grid cabin.

Incredibly personable and funny, they’re a treat to watch each week.

Vancity Vanlife 145K YouTube subscribers

Vancity Vanlife features Chrome and his adorable bulldog pup, Cruz.

Chrome is a former professional DJ, so this is a fantastic channel if you love great music and great audio. As a former DJ, he has a fantastic voice for audio.

He uploads almost every day, and this channel is a throwback to early daily vlogs of YouTube. Videos are based mostly around Vancouver, British Columbia, but he does sojourn around Canada and into the USA when he’s able. It’s a great channel to get a feel for daily van life realities.

Drew Binsky 2.34 Million YouTube subscribers

Drew, an American YouTuber, is definitely an engaging, entertaining presence on YouTube. He’s also controversial, as he continued traveling during the pandemic, and he’s garnered criticism for visiting countries like North Korea.

This is the type of channel that you’ll likely either love or hate.

Favorite travel video: He is the Ice Man (Wim Hof)

Project Amber 57K YouTube subscribers

Project Amber follows the adventures of a UK vlogger and his adorable Spaniel puppy, Lance as they travel in a converted ex-ambulance.

There’s plenty of great content in the archives that features road trips around the UK and Europe.

The man and dog duo just bought off-grid land in Portugal, and I’m looking forward to watching his local Portuguese adventures.

Lost in Europe

Ash Pollard of Lost in Europe is a 27 year old photographer from Leicester/England.

As the channel title suggests, he mostly features van travel around Europe. There’s some gorgeous videography here, and I’ve loved his time in Scotland, as well has his new content on van life in the winter.

Bald and Bankrupt 2.66 Million subscribers

Bald and Bankrupt follows the adventures of English travel vlogger Benjamin Rich, who mostly focuses on visiting post-Soviet states.

This channel is much more about meeting everyday people, and getting to know them and their lives, than cinematic scenes and views. It’s great entertainment, and I love that it focuses on getting to know people.

Like Drew Binsky, Rich has travelled during the pandemic. Rich was hospitalized for nine days for coronavirus in July 2020 in Serbia, which was not under lockdown at the time. He admitted that he was “blasé” about the pandemic, and has cautioned his viewers to take the pandemic seriously.

12 Inspiring Travel Challenges (For Each Month of the Year)

Are you up for a travel challenge? How about twelve?

In this article, you’ll find 12 inspiring travel challenges , one for each month of the year.

So, let’s play a game:

Let’s make travel a bit more interesting than just checking attractions off a bucket list. And let’s concentrate on the experiences and the lessons learned, not the places we see when we travel.

If you’re ready to take your travels to the next level, this is my suggested travel challenges list for you.

Let’s conquer!

1. January: Riding the Last Narrow-Gauge Train in Bulgaria

📝 Travel Challenge Description

To start the travel challenges list, I have an unusual train journey for you.

You see, narrow-gauge trains are a rare species. The 760-mm (30-in) wide rails aren’t used much anymore.

In Bulgaria, there’s just one line left, which runs on narrow rails. This is the track from Septemvri to Dobrinishte. It cuts through the magical Rhodope Mountains and the proud Pirin Mountain.

📍 Where to Go for this Travel Challenge

The most picturesque and awe-inspiring section of the journey is between the SPA Capital of the Balkans, Velingrad , and the highest train station on the Balkans, Avramovo.

Riding the narrow-gauge train is like time-machine travel .

The line was constructed between the 1920s and the 1940s. It seems like time has stopped in the villages whose train stations you pass. The ride is the most authentic glimpse into the lives of the people from the surrounding mountains.

✅ How to Conquer This Travel Challenge

Buy your ticket at Velingrad Central train station. It costs BGN2.60 (€1.30 / $1.50). You can also catch the train at Velingrad-South train station. There’s no office at this station, so you need to buy the ticket on the train.

After one hour, several 8-shaped serpentines, and tens of tunnels, the train will arrive in Avramovo. The ride back leaves in an hour. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from Velingrad to Avramovo and ride the train just in one direction.

The narrow-gauge train runs several times a day. You can check the current timetable at any of the train stations.

📆 Why You Should Do it in January

In January, winter is in its peak. The season’s fluffy, white duvet covers the mountains and they look surreal.

The cold weather also adds an extra level of difficulty to your travel challenge. Getting your hiney a bit cold is a challenge you’re up to, right?

2. February: Walking Trunk in Hand With an Elephant Lady in South Africa

I couldn’t create a travel challenges list and skip an animal encounter. So, here we go:

Walking “trunk in hand” is the alternative to walking hand in hand with your buddy. Only in this travel challenge, your buddy is an elephant lady. She puts her trunk in your hand and the two of you go for a walk.

The Elephant Sanctuary near Plettenberg Bay on the Garden Route is home to rescued elephants. You should put it on your South Africa itinerary !

These South African animals were saved either from illegal private zoos or from the wild. They have been mistreated or suffered an injury. Into the wild, they can’t make it on their own. In the sanctuary, they learn to live with each other and to take care of themselves.

For example, the lady on the photo above lost the tip of her trunk. This meant that she would starve to death as her trunk serves as a multi-purpose tool.

One of the functions of her trunk is to pick up food and place it in her mouth. With her severed trunk, she was unable to do so. In the sanctuary, she learned how to suck in objects instead of picking them up. Now, she’s able to feed without extra help.

One thing I noticed in the sanctuary is this:

People are afraid of elephants. Well, they should be! The giant mammals have unpredictable behaviour. They might vandalise an entire forest just for the fun of it.

Standing near a one-tonne-heavy bully with the size of a small house is indeed scary. However, if you overcome your fear, you’ll end up with one of the most amazing travel experiences of your life!

Simply hold your hand with the palm facing up and your elephant friend will place her trunk in it. Then, you’ll start walking and she’ll follow you. It sounds so simple, but it’s the most extraordinary experience on this travel challenges list.

📆 Why You Should Do it in February

February is the shoulder season in South Africa. There aren’t many tourists around and you wouldn’t have to wait long in line until your turn to walk trunk in hand with your new elephant friend comes.

3. March: Exploring a Snapshot of the Past in Italy

Next on the travel challenges list, we have ancient ruins and a mighty volcano. But that’s not all.

Usually, when you visit ancient ruins, you see what time has done to a city. Stones have fallen down, walls have been demolished, and you can’t fully imagine the grandeur of the place.

But when you visit Pompeii , you’ll notice that it wasn’t time that destroyed the city.

It was one single act of violence from nature – the eruption of the nearby Vesuvius Volcano – which wiped off all living creatures from the city.

In a matter of seconds, life in Pompeii ceased to exist. However, the buildings, the streets, and the interiors survived the disaster. Buried under a thick layer of ashes, the city of Pompeii kept most of its original appearance from the 1 st  century AD. Once archaeologists removed the ashes, they uncovered an almost untouched “snapshot of the past”.

The archaeological site of Pompeii lies near Naples, Italy. You can reach it easily by train, car, or bus.

You can admire the threatening sight of the active volcano from a distance or visit it after you’ve seen what it was capable of doing.

Wear sturdy shoes if you decide to visit Pompeii. The cobble-stoned streets and the ruins of the city have uneven surfaces.

Moreover, if you also climb Vesuvius, you need to do a short but steep hike up the side of the volcano. The trail is covered in slippery stones and volcano ashes.

📆 Why You Should Do it in March

As you might imagine, Italy receive hordes of tourists each year.

Luckily, the weather in March is still a bit cold for most travelers who want to spend a day outside, roaming the ruins of an ancient city. This is your chance to walk alone the back alleys of Pompeii.

4. April: Discovering Unexpected Attractions in Paris

Let’s mix things up. Why not add one of the most visited city in the world on the travel challenges list.

You might be wondering already, what unexpected attractions can Paris possibly hide?

Surprisingly, even the most popular attractions keep unexpected secrets. For example, when you hear the Louvre, in your head certainly pops up the image of Mona Lisa.

But if you check the map of Louvre’s collections, you’ll discover that there are tonnes of equally exciting artefacts to explore in the largest museum in the world.

So, where can you find unusual things to do in Paris ? You see, even the most famous museums hide surprising treasures.

Here’s a short but sexy list to inspire your search for crazy things to do in Paris:

• The Louvre : Find peculiar collections and marvel at the interior of the former palace.
• Graveyards : Pay respect to some of the greatest talents of the past in the Parisian cemeteries.
• The Eiffel Tower : Spy on Gustave Eiffel’s secret private apartment.
• Parks : Play with sailboats in the royal ponds.
• Cabarets : Discover the best of the Parisian nightlife.

My best advice for Paris is to limit your stay to exactly three days.

Why only 3 days in Paris , when there’s so much to see and do in the French capital?

Because if you stay longer, you’ll start seeing the imperfections of the large city with hordes of tourists even in low season. Because if you stay longer, you’ll push yourself to see more than your mind can take and walk further than your feet can carry you.

Moreover, because if you stay longer, you might not want to return. And Paris is not a place to visit just once in your lifetime and never return to!

📆 Why You Should Do it in April

To avoid at least some of the tourist crowds, come in low season. Autumn and early spring is the best time.

In April, the temperatures are pleasant for long strolls along the Seine River. The trees are turning green and the parks look lovely.

5. May: Finding Secluded Paradise in the Dominican Republic

Despite being best-known as an all-inclusive destination, the Dominican Republic still hides countless secluded beaches and unexplored jungles.

For the next item on the travel challenges list, we’re going to the Caribbean island.

You can find seclusion on empty Dominican beaches .

You can descend into the depths of the Earth in one of the largest limestone caves in the area.

Or you can explore the last secret gem of the Caribbean, Samana Peninsula .

The first step is to get away from all-inclusive resorts. Don’t be afraid to explore the vibrant Dominican Republic and search for its hidden gems. Be prepared and open-minded and you’ll end up with wonderful memories.

📆 Why You Should Do it in May

You want to avoid visiting the island republic during the hurricane season. During the rest of the year, the weather is great for sunbathing and exploring the tropical paradise.

The months from December to April are the best time to visit the Dominican Republic. That’s why my recommendation is to pick May – shortly after the crowds have left – for your adventure in the tropical paradise.

6. June: Conquering Europe’s Deepest Canyon on a Raft

In the mountains of Bosnia and Herzegovina, runs the Tara River.

Known as the Colorado of the Balkans, the river has carved a fascinating canyon. It’s deeper than any other in Europe. For comparison, the Grand Canyon is only slightly superior to this one.

Between the Bosnian town of Foca and the border with Montenegro, you can raise your adrenaline in a surreal white-water rafting adventure in the deepest European canyon.

The turquoise waters of the Tara River canyon invite you to jump right in. You should be careful, though. The crystal waters might seem shallow, but the river between 2 and 4 m (6.56 ft. and 13.12 ft.) deep!

Take part in a rafting adventure, organized by the skilful tour companies in the area. You can find small camps at the riverbanks along the road.

📆 Why You Should Do it in June

The neoprene suits provided by the rafting companies protect you from the refreshing waters of the river. However, once you come on shore, you need to shower and dry yourself.

Trust me, it’s not pleasant to do so when the temperatures are below 10°C (50°F). However, in the peak of summer, you risk being eaten alive by mosquitoes.

This leaves June as the perfect month to indulge in this unforgettable rafting adventure.

7. July: Dancing the Night Away at the Black Sea Coast

The next one on the travel challenges list is for the most hard-core and open-minded travellers.

You see, Bulgarian folk dances are also known as the Eighth Miracle . That’s how fascinating line dancing in Bulgaria is! And once you’ve tried it and you’ve mastered the steps, you won’t stop until you can no longer stand on your feet.

Visit the small villages at the Northern Bulgarian Black Sea Coast . Stay at an authentic, rustic guesthouse and make friends with the other visitors.

There are just three easy steps to conquering this travel challenge:

• Stay at a traditional guesthouse .
• Make friends with everyone around you.
• Join the dances when the music starts.

📆 Why You Should Do it in July

For this travel challenge, I recommend July for two reasons:

• It is summer and you can combine the dances with suntanning at some of the best Bulgarian beaches or enjoy sea kayaking around the rugged cliffs.
• If you arrive on the last day of June, you can witness the traditional July Morning festivities. They are a joyful celebration of new beginnings and positive thinking.

8. August: Surviving and Making Friends at The Roof of the World

The Pamir Mountains in Central Asia, aka The Roof of the World , is a place of extremes.

Nothing grows on this Alpine desert at the altitudes of over 4,000 m (13,000 ft.). Inaccessible peaks rise twice as high. Streams might freeze even in mid-August. In winter, the temperatures might drop lower than in Siberia and Alaska.

However, despite the harsh living conditions and possible language barriers, you meet some of the friendliest and kindest people in the world.

They invite you to their homes, share the little food they have, and most importantly tell you about their lives, dreams, and desires. You make friends for life and experience diverse cultures, which you can’t meet anywhere else on the planet.

To conquer the next item on the travel challenges list, go to the Pamirs . You’ll need to reach the ex-Soviet republics of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Getting to their capital cities is quite convenient. For Kyrgyzstan, most travellers don’t need visas. For Tajikistan, you can apply for an e-visa . When visiting the Pamirs, don’t forget to request a GBAO permit as well.

You can drive, cycle, or even hitchhike the Pamir Highway . Take the road from Dushanbe (the Tajik capital) to Osh (the second-largest city in Kyrgyzstan) or vice versa. You’ll be most flexible and safe with a guide and a driver.

Governments – past and present – have long forgotten the area in the two neighbouring ex-Soviet republics. The few roads, which were once paved, have more potholes than asphalt left.

The so-called Pamir Highway can hardly qualify as a speedway in any modern country. Instead, dusty roads take you to small villages without running water and electricity.

But if you’re up for a life-changing travel experience, this is your destination! Pack light and warm, take your biggest smile and the friendliest attitude you’ve got, and you’ll end up with unbelievable stories to tell your grandchildren.

📆 Why You Should Do it in August

August is the driest month of the year in the Pamir Mountains.

This is extremely important because even a few raindrops can cause landslides and roadblocks, preventing you from having an adventure of a lifetime.

9. September: Greeting the Sun over the Rock Forest Meteora

Have you ever visited a place, which exceeded the boundaries of your imagination? For me, one such place was the Rock Forest of Meteora, Greece .

The high-rising boulders, topped with levitating monasteries, form an incredible image. Nature and the human spirit have created scenery like no other.

Perched atop the cliffs, the Meteora Monasteries near Kalambaka in Central Greece welcome visitors all year round.

Follow the 7-km (4.3-mi) long scenic road to admire the surreal views of the rocks and the monasteries around you.

There are just four steps to conquering this unforgettable travel challenge:

• Get up early. Use an app or ask the locals about the time of the sunrise. Dress warm, even in summer. The wind can be fierce. After all, it carved these mesmerising rock formations.
• Drive to the Meteora Rocks. Try to arrive about half an hour before dawn. There are several designated areas where you can position yourself and meet the new day.
• Greet the first sunrays. As they hit the rocks, their reflections paint the cliffs in gentle pink colours.
• Move on to the Great Meteoron Monastery. Listen to the sound of the bells calling for prayer.

📆 Why You Should Do it in September

The temperatures at the end of the European summer are more pleasant than at its zenith. However, they’re still quite high – and you need them to be over 20°C (68°F). 

That’s because the winds, which have shaped the Meteora Rock Formations, still blow harshly. After all, if you get up in the middle of the night to greet the sun, you’d want to feel at least some comfort.

10. October: Tasting Exquisite Slow-Food Delicacies in Ireland

Next on the travel challenges list is a culinary experience.

You know how we’ve become obsessed with time and getting things done quickly? Even when we eat, most of us prefer the so-called “fast food” to save some extra minutes.

However, that’s not only unhealthy but it’s unpleasant and boring. Food should be devoured slowly, each bite should be enjoyed, and each aftertaste should be appreciated.

That’s what the slow food culture is all about. Taking time to make a perfect dish and then savouring each moment while devouring it.

The Beara Peninsula in Ireland, albeit not as famous as other regions of the island, is home to local producers who keep ancient recipes. They take the time and effort to produce delicacies, which will make your palate cry with joy.

These are some of the places where you can devour Beara’s exquisite treats:

• The award-winning seafood chowder at the Beara Coast Hotel .
• The Beara Ocean gin with water from the Atlantic Ocean at the Beara Distillery .
• The Irish farmhouse raw-milk cheese at the Milleens Cheese .
• Locally farmed mussels at the Kush Shellfish Restaurant .

📆 Why You Should Do it in October

There’s something magical about the countless shades of green in Ireland. Combined with the radiant autumn foliage of the trees in October, you’ll experience more colours than your eyes can distinguish.

11. November: Chasing the Last Summer Days on the Best Cyprus Beaches

Cyprus has the longest summer season in Europe. The island is also home to ancient ruins, stunning beaches, and incredible sunsets.

Arm yourself with your best camera and explore the beaches waiting for the perfect sunset.

The Cypriot coastline is predominantly rocky with rugged cliffs rising up like scary guardians. The Mediterranean Sea and the harsh winds have sculptured jaw-dropping arcs and bottomless caves.

Nevertheless, if you know where to search, you’ll find amazing beaches to work on your tan as well.

To check this item off your travel challenges list, follow these steps:

• Check the map and visit as many of the numerous Cyprus beaches as possible.
• Suntan and stock on vitamin D whenever the temperatures allow it.
• Explore the countless ancient ruins on the Mediterranean island when not on the beach.

📆 Why You Should Do it in November

As with other popular destinations, it’s key to visit Cyprus when the crowds have already left. Moreover, you should do it before winter. The winds, which have shaped the rugged coastline, are fierce.

Hence, November is your last chance before spring to sunbathe or even swim anywhere in Europe. Bring your swim trunks and a quick-drying tower to conquer this travel challenge.

12. December: Uncovering the True Spirit of Christmas

In my humble opinion, the true spirit of Christmas doesn’t come from exchanging expensive presents with your loved ones but from spending precious time with them.

In the dull, winter days, what better place to spend a few hours and enjoy the bright decorations than a German Christmas Market !

Germany is home to some of the oldest and most joyful Christmas traditions in the world.

Every square in every town, every castle or fortress, every farm and every community organize their own Christmas market. Although the size and splendour can vary greatly, there are fun things to do and nice memories to make at every Christmas market.

Still, the most famous Christmas markets in Germany are in the following cities:

For the best possible results, go on a Christmas market hopping tour!

Either in a German city you’re visiting, or through a larger area, don’t limit yourself to just one German Christmas market. The magic is in the variety and the different themes of the markets.

Explore the World with the Best Travel YouTubers

During the many lockdowns and time spent indoors, many of us spent time yearning for escape . We wanted to discover places that weren’t our apartments or houses. Those sentiments seemed to grow stronger with each day and week that passed by.

After stumbling into the rabbit hole of travel vlogs during this period, these were the travel Youtubers who managed to make a very small world large again . These are just a taste of the best travel YouTubers available to watch and a small sample of their travelling vlogs.

Travelling Vlogs

For the uninitiated, travelling vlogs are stories or journeys that are personal to that particular person or couple. Some of the best travel youtube channels set themselves challenges when visiting a country that gives viewers an alternative experience of a place. A lot of the travelling vlogs circa 2020 lockdown centre around van life.

This involves buying a van, converting and attempting to live in their new mobile home. Some do it really well and others struggle to adapt. Of course, the beauty of watching travelling vlogs are the journeys people take and the culture they immerse themselves in. The best travel Youtubers do this with ease and allow the viewer to form their own opinion on a place.

And so, after over a year of watching and building relationships with people I only know via my TV, these are the best travel YouTube channels and travel Youtubers who helped me get through that period of my life when I needed to escape into the wider world .

The Best YouTube Travel Channels

Best couple travel youtubers – travel beans.

Alex and Emma feel like your relatable best friends . They started their travel Youtube channel 7 years ago and have a wonderful community of fellow ‘beans’. Their travelling vlogs have covered series building and transforming a van, travelling through Germany and making friends with Hollywood celebrities. They’ve been engaged forever and love to explore the world . They’ve had their struggles with depression and it’s nice to see that real side that so often people hide from the cameras.

Alex is blunt and says whatever is on his mind. He’s also a huge fan of birds, which I thought was a long-running joke but turns out he really does love anything furry with wings. Emma is a wonderful breath of fresh air. Her enthusiasm for building their van and doing 99% of the work on her own was massively inspiring . Their series on  Puglia  has inspired a visit the next time in Italy.

Recently the Travel Beans have had a bit of bad luck, having decided to purchase a new motor home in the USA named Frank which erupted into flames as they prepared for the start of their journey travelling around the US and its National Parks. 2022 has been a bit of a wild ride for the Travel Beans, but here’s hoping to a non-explosive new van in the future!

Best Couple Travel YouTubers – Kinging It

Where to begin with Aimee and Craig, the amazing travel vlogging duo that makes up Kinging- It. They are the biggest breath of fresh air that you could ever ask for. Their positivity and infectious enthusiasm are rampant throughout their videos. They’ve battled broken necks and cancer, their motto being ‘ Rule your own world .’ It’s impossible not to come away from watching Kinging-It and not end up with a massive smile plastered across your face.

Kinging It are probably one of the best couple travel vloggers on Youtube and they recently hit 200,000 subscribers. A massive milestone for them after 7 years of hard work. Their travelling vlogs are hysterical and have moments of poignancy that will bring a tear to your eye. Kinging-It are having an epic 2022 with their series to date featuring adventures in Custard the Bus in Morocco, a Wheelie-Bin challenge across Wales and Motor-Biking in Vietnam.

Series include the Mongol Rally, the NC500 in Scotland, driving around every inch of Wales, but my all-time favourite is their Indian series. They travel to Northern India, Dehli, buy a rickshaw and drive ‘Chapati’ down South. It is utter brilliance .

Best Couple Travel YouTubers – Tim & Fin

For long-form travel content then look no further than travel vloggers Tim & Fin who have created some seriously impressive and in-depth destination videos. The couple are enthusiastic travellers who present viewers with a multifaceted view of destinations. From staying in a 5-star luxury hotel in Santorini to a hostel, this couple lays it all out for their viewers. And that’s what I enjoy about this couple is that they can plan their content around the ‘average’ person and not just for the views.

Tim & Fin are refreshingly normal and if their Instagram account is anything to go by, hilarious and down to earth. When I was on the fence about visiting the island of Milos , I discovered their in-depth travel vlog of the island which helped me cement my decision to visit one of the best Greek islands.

Best Couple Travel YouTubers – Kara and Nate

I hesitated about adding powerhouse Kara and Nate to the list. I initially enjoyed their enthusiasm for visiting new places, but it quickly wears thin as they attempted to visit 100 countries before Nate’s 30th birthday. In their earlier videos, their appreciation for culture is incredibly lacking and apparent. They would jet into a country, caring more for their business class plane seats or the lounge experience than the place itself. So much so that they would leave a city early and spend hours in a lounge, because, free food?

As they’ve gotten older, they have definitely grown wiser . And this is the reason for their inclusion on the list. As they approached their goal of 100 countries, they slowed down and started to enjoy their travelling a lot more. They immersed themselves into the local culture and appeared to become more appreciative of learning from new experiences.

Some of their best work to date stems from Nate’s mountain bike trip in Colorado. It was a feat of endurance and hands down, absolutely brilliant . As someone who has followed them for a few years, it has been amazing to see their growth as travel vloggers and how comfortable they are in their roles.

Their travel youtube channel has grown from brief visits to far-flung countries to now pushing the limits in their relationship and bodies to challenge themselves personally and physically. And whilst a lot of their videos from 2020 and beyond have focused on challenges, the couple has grown enormously on their journey and it’s been a pleasure to watch.

Best Couple Travel YouTubers – Eamon & Bec

Eamon and Bec are some of the sweetest travel YouTubers out there. The Canadian duo are experts not only in van builds but also in building their own cabin in the Canadian wilderness. Their videos are filled with goodness and laughter and highlight some really spectacular Canadians travel highlights. Their journey in creating their dream cabin is a wonderful series, tinged with moments of sadness and personal achievements .

2022 has been a tough year for Eamon and Bec with Bec being diagnosed with breast cancer. Her honesty and openness in her cancer journey have been incredible and at times really difficult. And whilst 2022 hasn’t been the year that they had planned, the couple’s positive outlook on life has made their channel a safe place for people who are going through similar hard times.

It only means that in 2023, Eamon and Bec will be out on the road again, creating excellent travel vlogs and in full health. We can’t wait for their healthy return to the space.

Kara and Nate are travel vloggers that are just good wholesome fun.  They set out from Nashville Tennesee to travel the world about 5 years ago.  Soon after, they made a bucket list goal to visit 100 countries by 2020.  They met their 100-country goal, and by that time, YouTube was a steady career for them.  Kara and Nate are truly addicted to international travel, but COVID changed that game for the couple.  Having no quit in them, they found a way to travel safely and returned to the United States.  They converted a Sprinter van and have set a new goal to visit all 50 states.  Kara and Nate are one of the largest travel channels and have now put out more than 800 videos, so you better get started!

What Makes Kara and Nate Special:  

Kara is a joyful soul. There is nothing more fun on the planet than watching these two crazy Welsh kids tackle the world! Their accents are hilarious.  They are hilarious.  Craig and Aimee have been together for a very long time, and their relationship has been strengthened by a near-death experience by each of them!  When they met, Aimee had just received a cancer diagnosis, and the road was long and hard.  Then, Craig challenged their relationship some more with a broken neck from an adventure sports accident. 

These two events, in a short span of time, convinced this crazy pair to chase after an unconventional life, and to live every moment to its fullest! Through it all, they have kept their joy and their sense of spontaneity.  Their motto is to “Rule Your Own World,” and they certainly do.  They have spent the last couple of years renovating a Mercedes Vario Bus into their new home.  Custard the Bus is a beauty, and her European adventures are just beginning. They have 500 travel videos for you to binge!  We think they are one of the best travel channels on YouTube and terribly underrated. 

What Makes Kinging It Special:

Craig and Aimee are absolutely hilarious.  They will have you wetting yourself, every episode!  Plus, they take on the wildest challenges.  They have completed the massive and absurd Mongol Rally, a competition that travels all through Europe and Asia, usually ending somewhere in Eastern Russia.  The car must be a clunker and have under a 1L engine, and chaos is highly encouraged!  Craig and Aimee’s Mongol Rally Series will have you rolling. Then these crazy kids bought their own rickshaw and proceeded to drive it from across India from North to South.  It was a wild ride.  Craig and Aimee are two personalities that you won’t soon forget, and their wild abandon, hilarious travel stories, and zest for life will make you want to live a little more freely, and “Rule your own world!”

Raya and Louis

Who are they:.

Raya and Louis are fairly new to the Travel YouTube scene as a couple, but Louis Cole has been in the biz for a long time.  His original channel, FunForLouis has over 2Million Subs, and it’s easy to see why.  Louis is just likable with his laidback vibe and a head full of dreadlocks. He’s an easy-going and loveable dude.  He and Raya are currently traveling through Europe in a rented van visiting family and taking holiday, but soon they will head back to their main mission.  They have about 50 videos out, so you can still easily catch up with the adventure.

What Makes Raya and Louis Special: 

Raya and Louis are into deep convos.  They have spilled the beans about the hard parts of their relationships and mental health issues, and there is just something about that level of vulnerability that makes you want to watch. They are also very eco-conscious and give great tips on how to travel in an eco-friendly way.  They have recently purchased land in Costa Rica to build a tree-house jungle community.  Like with everyone else, COVID changed their plans a bit, but soon, they will be making their way down to Costa Rica in their converted school bus to start a new life!  We can’t wait to see the community they build. 

Endless Adventure

Eric and Allison are the most charming couple from Missouri.  They’re sometimes Southern twang and complete and utter talent to be their quirky selves is both endearing and super funny.  Eric is a computer geek and a total self-proclaimed nerd.  Allison is red-headed beauty with the best big awkward laugh.  These two specialize in unique accommodations and lots of food! They always show us the best places to eat, and exactly what weird foods to try. 

Their lighthearted personalities and willingness to just be their nerdy selves make you instantly love them!  They have currently begun a tiny home renovation too, but not any old sprinter van would fit these two.  They have bought a completely run-down 1970s RV, and they are taking on the renovation completely by themselves!  Clementine  is going to be a beauty, and it has been an awesome journey to watch.  They have  737  videos for you to catch up on!

What Makes Endless Adventure Special:  

They make great videos.  They cover great content, but Allison and Eric are people you could watch read the phone book and be happy.  They are really enjoyable to watch, no matter what they are doing.  They obviously love one another. They love good beer and whiskey in equal measure, and they love a challenge.  They are awkward, funny, quirky, and absolutely adorable!  Keep it coming Eric and Allison. We love it all!

Who Is He:  

“Food is the reason you should travel.”  Well, Mark, we agree!  After University, Mark Wiens set out to find the world’s best street food.  He has traveled the markets of Southeast Asia, stalls of Japan, and he recently spent 16 days with the street vendors of Pakistan.  Mark’s channel is absolutely huge!  With over 8 million viewers, it’s obvious that we YouTube viewers really love food…and Mark.  Mark is an unassuming and charming guy. His great big smile, love for food, and humble demeanor are endearing.  Between his YouTube personality and his incredibly informative blog, Migrationology,  it’s no wonder he has so many faithful followers.  Mark has found a beautiful wife in Thailand and settled with his new family in Bangkok, but they still travel frequently in the hunt for the best street foods in the world!

What Makes Mark Special: 

Honestly, we all wish we knew Mark’s secret!  We think the secret to Mark’s success, aside from some great business savvy, is his magnetic personality.  Mark is one of the most positive personas online.  Even after over 1,100 videos on food, he still seems just as excited as he did with the first one!  Mark greets every new place and every new food adventure with gusto and genuine excitement.  Mark loves food, and we love Mark!

Travel Beans

Alex and Emma are a pair of Brits out traveling the world and documenting their “Tipsy Beans” moments.  They may or may not have a tendency to get a little inebriated while filming.  Alex is witty and his sarcasm comes at the most unexpected moments.  Emma is a doll and has been very prominent in the push for better mental health advocacy.  Emma has struggled with some depression issues, which they have well-documented in a two-part series on their channel.  Thankfully, she has received the help she needed and has come out on the other side.  She now uses their channel on occasion to express the importance of finding life and health in this world, and doing what makes you happy! That’s all because she has the unique distinction of holding a Guinness World Record.  Lexie was the youngest person ever to travel to all 196 countries of the world.  She accomplished this feat before her 21st birthday!  Lexi is a remarkable young woman, and that level of travel has made her wise and mature beyond her years.

This solo female traveler has literally experienced every culture on earth.  She has lived with remote African tribes and tried the world’s most nasty foods.  She is a lovely girl, with a great series of travel vlogs that cover a wide range of topics, obviously!  Her footage is surprisingly well-shot and well-edited. Alexander Ayling

Alex and Marko Ayling made YouTube travel content for years as the Vagabrothers.  They have now slowed on that, but Alexander is taking on a brand new adventure.  He has moved to New Zealand and bought a homestead with his wife Carrie. Matthew Karstan is a true vagabond.  His channel focuses on hiking and camping adventures and budget travel advice in some incredible and off-the-tourist-track places.  Matt has worked with everyone from Lonely Planet, to National Geographic, and Go Pro.  He excels as a travel blogger and photographer,  in print and social media. His travel blog tells exceptional stories of life on the road as a digital nomad. However, his YouTube channel is a fabulous collection of his adventures in true old-school vlogger fashion. E and B are another great couple that has proved during this pandemic that they could sit and do absolutely nothing, and we would still tune in every Sunday to get our fix!  We have watched them tackle everything from van conversions to home conversion, dog fostering, and more. And, we still can’t get enough. This delightful pair has over 300 vids for you to veg out on, and we know you’re gonna love them.

Rick Steves

Rick Steves is the king of all things travel-related. Period.  There are no better travel guide books on the planet! His fabulously detailed books and ridiculously nerdy audio guides have been leading us through Europe and making us snort-laugh for years! But, the YouTube videos he produces are just as good.  Rick isn’t really a vlogger in the traditional sense.  His videos are definitely professionally researched, written, filmed, and produced by a talented professional team.  They are just the right mix of fun and informative, with all the necessary information on tourist sites and local must-do items. 

What Makes Rick Steves Special:

In short, the experience.  Rick has traveled Europe extensively, with multiple visits to each country.  His team of local guides, researchers, and destination experts put for the most up-to-date and interesting information and leave out the fluff!  With well over 1800 videos to peruse, there really is no better place to get all your necessary trip information. 

Sailing la Vagabonde

Riley and Elayna have the world’s largest sailing YouTube channel.  These two Aussies are going through a transition though.  They recently had their second baby and sailed their last sail.  So, what is up for the crazy foursome now?  We don’t really know, but we know it will be fun!

Jits into the Sunset

Tania and Adam are an Irish and English couple traveling the UK with their Sprinter van  Jitters.  They are different in the YouTube crowd.  They make travel vlogs, yes, but not all that often.  They are self-proclaimed slow travelers, who put out new videos whenever they feel like it. However, they are full of travel inspiration and well worth the wait.

Ryan and Abby are culture vultures who genuinely love to learn about history, cultural oddities, and all the things that make different people groups unique.  They are full-time travelers and digital nomads, so their version of slow travel and international living is refreshing to watch. 

What Makes Lost Among Locals Special:  

They traveled internationally for 12 years before leaving for full-time travel and had already experienced several amazing destinations as a pair.  So, they bring a unique blend of touristy sites juxtaposed with everyday local life and budget travel tips.  They dance with Albanians at a baby’s birthday party, play street games with old Turkish men, and score the best local foods in every destination.  COVID definitely made local interaction harder for them, as they regrettably express, but we look forward to seeing more of their off-the-beaten-path lifestyle in the future!  Keep up the good work guys!

The Vandersons

Emily and Danny feel like instant friends.  They are just so likable.  Danny and Emily set out in their van, with their cat Graham and dog Sombrita right after they got married.  They have since been traveling through Central America with their nomad pet family! Their goal is to make the full journey from Seattle to Argentina in their tiny, colorful van.  Though they are new to video making, their vlogs are heartfelt and laidback.  Danny is a lifelong BMX biker and app developer, with a surfer boy vibe and Emily is the sweetest soul. How To Create Engaging Travel Videos

There’s a lot of travel-based content on YouTube.

If you want yours to stand out, you can’t expect to just throw together some footage and hit publish.

Instead, here are some key ideas to help your travel videos be more memorable:

• Hook your audience with your footage: The first 3 seconds of your videos are crucial. You can use dramatic footage, an unknown landscape, fly over a majestic landscape or use captivating audio. Anything that’s ‘out of the norm’ will do the trick.
• Ask questions: Travel videos are generally one-sided. The content creator presents content and the viewers watch and listen. Asking questions makes viewers active participants in your videos. The more engaging the question, the better. Asking, “Can you travel around the world using $100?” is a more engaging question than, “Did you know you can travel on a budget?”
• Use teasers: At various points during your video, you can tease what’s coming next in that video (or in future ones). This gives people a reason to keep watching.

Travel Planning And Research

Planning and research play a huge part in creating engaging travel videos.

When planning, the first thing to consider is how you’ll differentiate your travel content.

Most travel videos explore common tourist areas, markets and well-known landscapes.

What if you go off the beaten path? Could you show your audience unique and lesser-known destinations or experiences? Sharing hidden gems will make your content different.

Are there any local festivals or hidden culinary delights your viewers must try?

You can also create travel itineraries for your viewers.

Here you’re not only providing your audience with visual walkthroughs of attractions. You’re also telling them the best order to visit them.

If you can create plans for different numbers of days in a city, (for example, 3 days in Paris, 5 days in Sicily) that will be even better.

How To Capture Great Travel Footage

Another way to stand out is to have variety in your travel footage.

Most people show a zoomed-in version of whatever they’re filming (and stick to it throughout the video). Instead, try this: don’t always stay too close to your subject.

People love seeing different points of view. You achieve this through varying shot lengths.

You might want to start with close-ups of food, crafts or architecture. Then, zoom out to show the big picture.

You can even have talking head videos (where a person is talking on camera). Then at various moments, you overlay B-roll footage of an attraction you’re talking about.

Two other crucial factors are lighting and audio.

Natural lighting is the best type of lighting. Usually, the golden hour (when the sun is rising and setting) offers excellent opportunities to film travel videos.

Your audio is another critical factor.

Use a portable microphone if possible to capture the best quality sound.

This little touch goes a long way when filming outdoors – especially if the video has background noise (including wind, waves, or crowds).

Increasing Audience Engagement

Creating YouTube content means you’re not publishing videos for yourself. You’re doing it primarily for your audience.

You want people to engage time and time again with your content. This engagement can become the foundation of a travel community.

Over time, you want your viewers to look forward to your content. You want them to watch, like, subscribe and comment.

As you build a community of like-minded people, ensure you have calls to action in your videos. These should match whatever you’re trying to achieve.

For example, if you want to create a “travel hacks” course, ask people to join your email list or follow you on Instagram to learn more.

If you want them to subscribe, be clear and explicit about it.

Don’t assume it will happen without asking.

Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or just going on your first solo trip, you have knowledge you can share with the world.

The above ideas will help you get started creating content others will find valuable.

Why is everyone taking photos of their airport trays?

To Pack and Wear: 2 skirts, 2 jerseys or leotards, 1 pullover sweater , 2 pair shoes , stockings, bra, nightgown, robe, slippers, cigarettes, bourbon. Bag with: shampoo , toothbrush and paste, Basis soap, razor, deodorant, aspirin, prescriptions, Tampax, face cream , powder, baby oil. To Carry: mohair throw, typewriter, 2 legal pads, pens, files, house key.

This pared-down, slightly old-fashioned packing list comes from Joan Didion 's The White Album , her second essay collection. It reproduced the roll call of clothes, cosmetics and other essentials that “was taped inside my closet door in Hollywood during those years when I was reporting more or less steadily. The list enabled me to pack,” she writes, “without thinking, for any piece I was likely to do.”

The list has also become more famous than many of her essays, which aren’t exactly obscure themselves. It’s republished in magazines and reproduced , adoringly, in Reddit forums dedicated to minimalist packing. And no wonder: there’s something endlessly fascinating about the things people take travelling. In the list that the musician and poet Patti Smith wrote on the eve of a tour, we learn that she washes her clothes in her hotel sink, “besides my dungarees and my trusty Ann Demeulemeester black jackets”. She inventories Moleskin notebooks , “seven small tubes of Weleda salt toothpaste”, “witch hazel wipes”, and “Loquat leaf tea bags for cough”, then declares: “I guess I am ready.”

This fascination is all over TikTok right now. The “airport tray aesthetic” has more than 16 million related posts, all following the same conceit: an airport security tray full of well-arranged, well-chosen stuff. Passports, plane tickets, phones , headphones , jewellery, hats, bags and even shoes are fashioned into colour-coordinated constellations of good taste. The publisher Faber even posted half a dozen trays themed around its books on Instagram.

This trend raises a couple of practical questions. Surely not all this stuff needs to go through a scanner? And surely the people behind you in the queue rushing for their flight would blow a fuse if you took 10 minutes to arrange your tray just so? Clearly, these pictures are – or should be – staged. Last month, the TikToker Chelsea Henriquez posted a tutorial in which she instructs aspiring tray artists to go through security normally, then “GET OUT OF WAY” and set up the photo somewhere a bit quieter. For the sake of everyone in the airport, this is very good advice.

These artfully curated trays don’t exactly go in for Didion-style minimalism. But they fit into the same broad principle: when you sail off into the world, you’re freed from your home and its endless clutter, and you have an opportunity to mould your personality anew via the possessions you bring along. Because the things we carry with us are, in some ways, part of us. Hence the interest in what’s in celebrities’ bags or wallets – we think that seeing these things will help us see more of them. (Here at GQ , we have our own series asking people what their 10 essentials are.) Well-worn books; half-used bottles of perfume or tins of Vaseline; notes scratched onto crumpled receipts; dented rings – these objects all betray their physical closeness to the owner, and have a certain magnetism because of it.

A voyeur studies these things to try and learn about someone. But the person carrying them might have the opposite intention: to conceal themselves. We can’t curate our entire lives, but we can curate the accessories we keep on our person. For a younger generation locked out of the housing ladder, holidays – particularly short holidays, where you only need hand luggage – are one of the few real luxuries within reach. A small suitcase or security tray becomes a place where your life can look coherent and in control.

Didion knew this. Reflecting on her own packing list, she wrote: “It should be clear that this was a list made by someone who prized control, yearned after momentum, someone determined to play her role as if she had the script, heard her cues, knew the narrative.” The punchline, she then revealed, was that her list didn’t include a watch. Didion was prepared for every other eventuality, but still had to call her hotel’s reception desk – or, when that got too embarrassing, her husband – to find out the time. “This may be a parable,” she says, “either of my life as a reporter during this period or of the period itself.” Those beautiful, tasteful security trays are probably parables of our own time too.

8 creative travel challenges to inspire your next trip

Do at least one thing you have never done before in your life – and you won ’ t be able to stop..

We’ve selected 8 creative and inspiring travel challenges that will turn your trips into personal adventures. Our source of inspiration is a book –  “203 Travel Challenges. Travel the world. Explore Your Inner Self” .

Traveling is something personal, so take the ingredients of the following challenges, stir them, move them and change them to create your own challenges to spice up your trips.

1 . Jump into a warm, open-air mineral pool while it’s snowing

There are plenty of warm, mineral pools in the open air around the world. However pleasant they may be in the summer, there is nothing like getting into one in the winter, when snowflakes are falling from the sky and you are soaking in warm, mineral water, not caring about tiny details like weather forecasts or an air temperature more suited to polar bears…

How to do it: Don ’ t forget to take a towel to dry yourself off as quickly as possible as you climb out of the pool. Also take your favorite warm drink in a thermos for pure bliss (coffee, cappuccino, tea and rum, etc.).

2 . Night Challenge

There are many attractions which stay open even when it ’ s dark outside. There are also events created to make your night more interesting. It ’ s a different world when you trade the light of the sun for the light of the moon and the stars.

A couple of ideas for night events: European Night of Museums (every year on a Saturday, around 18th May – the International Day of Museums), European Literature Night (in May – celebrities read excerpts from European works of art), European Theatre Night (in November). European Researchers ’ Night – research centers and museums open doors to show their achievements (every year in late September). Open-air cinema to enjoy a movie under the stars.

A couple of ideas for attractions open during the night: Every summer from May until October the Colosseum in Rome , Italy, is open until midnight on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays (reservation necessary). In New York the Brooklyn Museum has free admission until 11 p.m. the first Saturday of each month (except September); the Top of the Rock observation deck at Rockefeller Center offers 70th floor views of Manhattan until midnight (last elevator up is at 11 p.m.), and the Empire State Building ’ s observation deck is open until 2 a.m. In Bangkok , Thailand, every district has its own night market where you can find all kinds of food, goods and fun activities, at the same time immersing yourself the best way possible into local life. Try the biggest market , Rot Fai, or the bohemian JJ Green Night Market.

For seasoned travelers: Take a night walk through the mountains. Under the only light of the moon or a headlamp – with an experienced guide or along trails you know like the back of your hand. Night walks are an experience that is hard to forget.

3 . Go out of range for 24 hours

Go out of range, see the sunrise, read a book, talk to people. 

You are constantly online. You follow the events on the social networks and sometimes it’s as if the real world has disappeared. We challenge you to go for at least 24 hours to a place where electronic devices are out of range. We challenge you to feel that you are here and you are here now, instead of drifting through virtual space.

For seasoned travelers: Deliberately turn off all your devices for a day. Get out of range for a week.

4 . See a shooting star and make a wish come true

Seeing a shooting star to make a wish may seem to you like pure chance. The truth is, you can help chance come your way by being in the right place at the right time. Every year, around 12 August, the sky night fills with hundreds of shooting stars (or meteorites to be exact). The reason is the annual meteor stream called Perseids .

Fun fact… The meteors are called Perseids because when we look at the sky it seems like they come from the constellation Perseus.  In fact, the shooting stars we see in the sky are part of the comet Swift-Tuttle.

How to do it: The Perseids peak around 12 August (look up the date for the year) when hundreds of meteorites can be seen every hour.

A couple more ideas: There are other meteor streams throughout the year (Geminids in mid-December, Lyrids in mid-April, Quadrantids in late December – early January) when you can see a shooting star.

5. Bathe in a waterfall

Enjoy a free shower from nature. If you try to find pictures of the waterfalls listed below, without a shadow of a doubt you will want to shower there next time.

A couple of ideas:

Skogafoss (Iceland), Havasu (Grand Canyon, USA + more ideas for waterfalls you can bathe in the USA ), Ouzoud (Morocco), Skradinski buk (Croatia), Kempty (India). Or just visit the nearest waterfall to you.

6.  Celebrate the International Picnic Day

On International Picnic Day (every year on 18 June), enjoy one of the best ways to be close to nature. The importance of picnics dates back to the Victorian Age when young men and women could spend time together in the open. Back in the day, they would bring fancy meals, sandwiches, sweets and crackers. Nowadays picnics require far less effort, but they can be a good reason finally to go somewhere you ’ ve been meaning to, but haven ’ t had the chance.

How to make it more interesting: You can give the picnic a theme – everyone to wear red, to bring only Italian cuisine, tea and board games, a candlelit picnic, etc. To make it more fun, you can throw in a kite, slackline, hacky sack, badminton or a frisbee.

Fun fact… According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the biggest picnic in the world was organized in Lisbon, Portugal, on 20 June 2009 with more than 20 000 participants.

7. See a shipwreck – without going underwater

It ’ s human nature – we are drawn to tragedy and decay. We roam around abandoned villages, enter buildings carrying legends of ghosts and dive to reach sunken ships. If diving is not your passion, we challenge you to visit one of the most famous shipwrecks in the world … without having to dive.

Zakynthos, Greece – At Navagio Beach, you will see the remains of a vessel washed ashore. You can take a peek from the high rocks or reach it by boat.

Muynak, Uzbekistan – Outside the town of Muynak (or Moynaq) in Uzbekistan, in the direction of the Aral Sea, you will witness a sinister view along the road – the skeletons of ships and fishing boats abandoned long ago in the desert. Up until about 30 years ago Muynak was a sea harbor, but today it is in the middle of the desert, 50 km (30 miles) from the coast, after the rivers were diverted for irrigation purposes, and so the road leading to the Aral Sea turned into a ship graveyard.

Sydney, Australia – Homebush Bay in Sydney has become the final resting place of no longer operating ships. Some of them were swallowed by mangroves, growing over the rusty decks.

8. You want a raise? Take a holiday!

It is a proven fact that employees who use more of their vacation days achieve better results at work and have a higher chance of being promoted. Many people don ’ t use all of their vacation days as they fear that their long absence might show their bosses that the work can be managed without them. A study, however, shows that employees, who take all of their vacation days, show better results at work. Statistics in the USA and Canada reveal that for every 10 days off from work, the employee ’ s results improve by an average of 8%.

50 exciting traveling challenges to do before you turn 50

Sometimes it seems that time passes by so fast and this is, unfortunately, the cruel reality. But when the time is well spent, then instead of feeling sad about aging you can always go back to the good memories and the great experiences you’ve had.

For most people, these good experiences come mainly with new adventures and with traveling. And of course, this is mainly how people learn something new, discover and explore and collect new episodes of their movie called life.

Exciting traveling challenges to do

So what we have here are some challenges to do to spice up your travel life a bit. They can lead you to new experiences and new feelings you haven’t encountered before and, as traveling works, they can leave you speechless and then turn you into a storyteller. Well, here you have it – a list of traveling challenges we recommend. Some of them may inspire you to go on a trip immediately, while some you might have already done, so check out how creative you are while you’re on the road.

• Try hitchhiking with your friends in a foreign country.
• Go camping on a deserted beach with your new lover.
• Run along the Chinese wall with your selfie stick up in the air.
• Watch the stunning Northern lights while having a glass of excellent wine.
• Skinny deep late at night in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
• Take a selfie with a llama on Machu Picchu.
• Try to avoid social media during a trip – can you do it?
• Find the funniest looking person at the bus station and buy a ticket for a day trip to the destination he/she is going.
• Go on a Zipline anywhere you can in the world, but if you want an actual challenge then choose to do a zip line in Nepal.
• Try out tandem paragliding above a lovely surface such as a famous national park or a spectacular blue sea.
• Make a photo album (a real one, not on social media) about every trip you’ve had and keep it in a good place for eternal memory.
• Send postcards from places you visit your friends and the people you’ve met along the trips.
• Visit Disneyworld no matter how old you think you are (and you are never too old for Disneyland).
• Visit some of the most popular music festivals organized throughout the world.
• Pick a destination that is on the other side of the world from the point where you live.
• Don’t be scared to fall in love with whoever you find amusing and is nice to you along the way.
• Taste some traditional Asian food that includes insects and other stuff you might not feel like trying out at all.
• Take a ride on a train that goes through the most beautiful railways in Austria, Switzerland, and Italy.
• Go on a cruise that lasts for more than a week and stops at exotic places.
• Learn a few interesting phrases in as many languages as you can.
• Visit a new city without a map, nor any knowledge of the city, just ask the people along the way for which places to visit, where to go and what to do.
• Use your money to travel more instead of buying unnecessary things for your home.
• Visit at least three continents.
• Have fun while you pretend that you’re a famous TV star visiting a foreign country.
• Sing your heart out with the street musicians you meet in a new city.
• Go on a camel ride through some of the deserts in Egypt.
• Visit the seven wonders of the world.
• Book a ticket to Bali, Indonesia and spend a few days relaxing at a spiritual retreat .
• Travel to China to hold baby pandas at panda research bases.
• Go snorkeling in Seychelles and get inspired by the most beautiful and colorful underwater world.
• Drive a motorbike and enjoy the scenic view from the Great Ocean Road in Australia .
• Watch the craziest soccer game on Earth called Superclasico played in Buenos Aires.
• Attend one of the most exciting and diverse street carnivals .
• Travel to China to be amazed by the Lantern Festival that is organized every year.
• Leave your problems behind whenever you go on a road trip .
• If you have kids , try to travel as much as you can with them and create memories together.
