VA Youth Travel Team Rankings

Virginia produces some of the best baseball teams and programs in the Mid-Atlantic region. A fair number of these teams get to face off with teams from North Carolina, and these teams have proven Virginia baseball is every bit an equal in terms of quality teams. We wanted to try and provide a ranking for Virginia, as we do for North Carolina, in order to offer some guidance for teams in both states looking to find some of the best competition outside their own region.

We're going to do our best to try and develop an up-to-date ranking for each age group, 8u-13u. Please remember these rankings are NOT definitive. The purpose of these rankings are to 1) provide recognition to high-performing teams, 2) to offer some insight into the level of competition you might be facing in an upcoming game or tournament, or 3) to allow parents and coaches some ability to gauge who some of the best teams are around the state in different regions or age groups. These are meant to be purely fun and informative. If you disagree or think we're missing something in our rankings, let us know! We have also archived our previous rankings for each of the age groups. You can find links to older rankings on the respective age group's current ranking page.

Established in 1992 by Marvin (Towny) Townsend also known as Coach T, the Blasters were one of the top travel baseball organizations in the United States and were quoted by Sports Illustrated as "The best amateur baseball team ever assembled" as 9 of the 12 players went on to play professional baseball! Some of the Blaster alumni include current and former MLB players, such as Michael Cuddyer, David Wright, Mark Reynolds, BJ Upton, Justin Upton and Josh Rupe.

Blaster STORY

The Blaster organization prides itself on training over “trophy hunting”. While winning is always great, the number one goal of our coaching staff is baseball longevity. Blasters are not only taught the physical aspects of the game but are also taught the mental aspects of what is needed to play and be successful at higher levels. We believe the mental toughness, teamwork, and leadership skills instilled in our players are transferrable and will help guide them both on and off the field.

Games played at tuckahoe sports complex and surrounding complexes teams who sign up early receive a complimentary dozen of usssa baseballs. 8 team maximum per age division.  teams must email [email protected] or text 804-572-8294 to enter. please list coach, team name, 2024 age division when requesting to play. usssa aa classified teams play in age division, usssa aaa classified teams must play up an age division in aa. except 12u. 9 gg, 11 game maximum, including end of season championship dates: 8u, 10u, 12u, 14u -----9/17, 10/1, 10/15, 10/29 9u, 11u, 13u ---- 9/10, 9/24, 10/8, 10/22   league championship  11/5 entry fee: 8u--  $550 9u-12u--$675 13u-14u-- $725 teams pay umpires at home plate and provide 2 baseballs umpire fees:8u $35, 9u-12u $60,13u-14u $65 usssa rules apply.  teams receive usssa points and power rankings  .

CAVALRY BASEBALL

Loudoun County, Virginia

CAVALRY LEADS THE WAY

The Cavalry is a travel baseball organization based out of Loudoun County, Virginia that competes in the NVTBL.  Established in January 2016, the Cavalry consists of players primarily from Loudoun South Little League as well as other surrounding Loudoun County Little League teams.

The travel baseball year starts in fall and ends in spring, with tryouts for the next fall happening right after the spring season, typically near the start of June. Exact dates, times and location for tryouts will be posted for each team on this website and the Cavalry Facebook page typically around the end of May. If a player makes a Cavalry team they are committing to play with the team for a full year.

The fall season runs from September to November and usually consists of 2 practices during the week and a double header on Sundays. The spring season runs from April to June and usually consists of 1 practice during the week and a double header on Sundays. The number of tournaments (whether in town or out of town) depends on the specific Cavalry team. Most teams typically play about 3 tournaments each season. Usually it's a tournament to start the season, one to end the season and another somewhere in between.

We highly encourage our players to play Little League during the spring season, hence only 1 practice per week in the spring. The extra time on the field can help their baseball development and allows them to be eligible for Little League All-Stars, which is a great experience if they're selected. We also encourage our players to play other sports, if they're able to, because we feel playing other sports helps with the overall development of player's muscles and motor skills. Many of our players will play another sport in fall, while playing for their Cavalry team.

Starting at the end of January each Cavalry team begins an 8-10 week indoor training program. This is typically once per week in a facility near Dulles Corridor. The program works on every aspect of the game, as well as conditioning and is made to get the players ready for the spring season.

Typical dues per player range from $500-900 per year , depending on the Cavalry team and how many tournaments they decide to play. The more tournaments the higher the dues. The dues pay for a practice jersey, 2 game jerseys (home/away), 1 hat, tournament costs, umpires and field allocation for weekly double headers, team equipment, winter indoor training and insurance. (Note: the 7U development team  dues are less because of their overall costs)

To know which team to try out for, it's whatever your player's age is on April 30, that is your travel age for that year. For example, if your player is 11 years old on April 30th, then they would be trying out for the 11U team in the fall. For more information about the age policy check out the NVTBL website .

Arlington Travel Baseball's mission is to provide youth baseball players in Arlington County, Virginia, an opportunity to acquire superior skills through higher levels of competition.

Developing Ballplayers in Arlington

Arlington Travel Baseball is a year round program for 8-14U athletes.  Our 8U-12U players are required to play in Arlington Little League (ALL) or Cal Ripken Babe Ruth (CRBR) during the spring season. Our goal is to minimize conflicts between ATB and ALL/CRBR practices and games, and we will work with the players’ ALL/CRBR coaches in an effort to achieve this goal.  The Arsenal 13U and 14U programs play a program designed to ready them for the rigors of high school baseball.

Development, teams are composed of 8u through 14u  players who love baseball and want to develop their skills and understanding of the game.  additionally we operate an academy for players who want to develop their baseball skills as well as prepare them for the challenges of competitive baseball through fundamental training., team values, our culture is all about positive player development, instilling a lifelong love of baseball and emphasizing "safety first." atb coaches and parents are expected to model positive sportsmanship, teamwork and cooperation, and follow a code of conduct emphasizing this. atb players are also required to abide by a code of conduct., news & events, youth baseball night @ o’connell – march 20th, registration is open for the 2023 coach fox fall classic, atb_arsenal.
