BROTHER CANE is set to make a triumphant return commemorating their 30th Anniversary. A U.S. celebration tour is set to begin October 26 in Woodstock, GA continuing through December 2nd in Memphis, TN.

More dates are expected to be announced soon, see below for the initial itinerary and full details. In addition, their 1993 self-titled debut album, a timeless classic, will be reissued on October 20, 2023, and offered on vinyl for the first time igniting a wave of nostalgia and excitement among fans.

Adding to the anticipation of this re-release, the band went back into the studio with longtime collaborator and multi-platinum producer Marti Frederiksen and recorded two brand new songs. “Blinded By the Sun” and “Are You In There Anymore,” are set to be released as a special 7” vinyl simultaneously.

As founding member Damon Johnson explains of reuniting, “It was our manager, Kevin, who suggested we do this now after hearing from fans at my other shows who kept asking ‘when is Brother Cane coming back?’ After Glenn and I had loosely talked over the years of playing music together again, we all felt the time was right for us now.”

Co-founding member, Glenn Maxey echoes the same sentiment, “Seldom does a person get the chance to relive a dream that they pursued in their twenties. It’s hard to put into words. I’m just extremely grateful for the chance to play great music with great friends at this time in my life. Let’s go!”

As they hit the stage once again, fans can anticipate the live renditions of the band’s chart-topping favorites (“Got No Shame”, “And Fools Shine On”, “I Lie In The Bed I Make” and more), each performance capturing the energy and essence of Brother Cane's signature sound while reigniting the passion that made them favorites of their generation.

This highly anticipated reunion tour promises to deliver an unforgettable experience, as they take audiences on a nostalgic journey through their extensive catalog while also introducing some exciting new material. Brother Cane's resurgence serves as a testament to the enduring power of their music.

At the heart of Brother Cane's long-awaited reunion are its founding members, Johnson (lead vocals, guitar) and Maxey (bass) who originally formed the band in 1991 in their hometown of Birmingham, AL.

Johnson's distinctive guitar skills, vocals, and captivating stage presence, combined with Maxey's solid bass lines and rhythmic foundation, formed the core of the band's signature sound. Brother Cane found immediate success with the release of their self-titled debut album which delivered three singles: “Got No Shame”, “That Don’t Satisfy Me,” and “Hard Act to Follow” with “Got No Shame” reaching #1 on the Mainstream Rock charts earning the band U.S. tours with Aerosmith, Robert Plant and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

The reunion of these talented and road tested musicians brings an added sense of authenticity and excitement to the tour. The chemistry between Damon and Glenn has stood the test of time, as their musical connection effortlessly translates into electrifying live performances.

With their reunion, fans can expect a renewed energy and a deep sense of camaraderie on stage, as the founding members of Brother Cane join forces once again to captivate audiences with their raw talent and unwavering passion for their craft. Joining the duo for this reunion are longtime friends and fellow bandmates Jarred Pope (drums/Tom Keifer Band), Buck Johnson (keys/Aerosmith, Hollywood Vampires), and Tony Higbee (guitar/Tom Keifer Band).

Brother Cane to Reunite for 2022 + 2023 Tour Dates

You can add another reunion to the 2022 slate as '90s rock favorites Brother Cane will be hitting the stage later this year. The band, fronted by singer-guitarist Damon Johnson, have confirmed their return with plans not only for 2022 but also 2023.

Johnson will be joined in this reunion iteration of the band by original Brother Cane bassist Glenn Maxey as well as his longtime collaborator Buck Johnson on keyboards and drummer Jarred Pope.

While dates are currently in the process of being booked, the band's first confirmed show will take place at the Northern Lights Theater in Milwaukee on April 22 .  Johnson also revealed to AL.com that the group will add shows for their hometown of Birmingham, Alabama and Nashville, where he currently resides, for later this year.

Johnson and Maxey were founding members of the band back in 1991, with the group going on to release three studios albums - 1993's self-titled debut, 1995's Seeds and 1998's Wishpool - before their eventual split. Over the course of their run, they scored several Top 10 Mainstream Rock singles including the chart-topping " And Fools Shine On " and " I Lie in the Bed I Make " as well as " Got No Shame " and " That Don't Satisfy Me ."

In the years since their split, Johnson has gone on to perform with Thin Lizzy, Black Star Riders, as part of Alice Cooper's band and just last year he filled in for Gary Rossington in Lynyrd Skynyrd. It was that last tour that convinced him to reform Brother Cane, with the musician revealing he was surprised how many Skynyrd fans recalled the band and what their songs meant to them. After questions of a reunion continued to pop up, Johnson moved forward with his plan to reactivate the group.

While 2022 will bring select dates, the band is planning a full-fledged tour for 2023 coinciding with the 30th anniversary of their debut album. “I’m just over the moon about this!” says, Johnson. “Brother Cane fans are some of the most passionate that I’ve encountered in all of my travels.”

He adds, “I love all of these songs and the guys and I cannot wait to get back out there and share them with the amazing fans and friends of Brother Cane. Let's Go!”

BROTHER CANE Reforms For Live Shows, New Music

BROTHER CANE will return to the concert stage next month. The first confirmed performance will take place on Friday, April 22 at The Northern Lights Theater in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Joining frontman/guitarist Damon Johnson will be longtime collaborator Buck Johnson on keyboards, drummer Jarred Pope and original BROTHER CANE bassist Glenn Maxey .

BROTHER CANE is an American rock band originally from Birmingham, Alabama. Formed by Johnson and Maxey in 1991, the group released three studio albums, charting several singles including three No. 1s and five top 10 hits.

BROTHER CANE found immediate success with the July 1993 release of its self-titled debut album, which delivered three singles: "Got No Shame" , "That Don't Satisfy Me" and "Hard Act To Follow" . "Got No Shame" reached No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock charts and garnered the band U.S. tours with AEROSMITH , Robert Plant and LYNYRD SKYNYRD . The band's next album, "Seeds" (1995),yielded another No. 1 rock track, the haunting and swampy "And Fools Shine On" . This hit led to a lengthy and successful tour in support of the mighty VAN HALEN . Three years later saw the release of "Wishpool" (1998) and BROTHER CANE 's third No. 1 song at rock radio, "I Lie In The Bed I Make" . After major personnel changes at Virgin Records (the band's label),as well as a major shift in style at rock and alternative radio formats, the band laid down their instruments and called it a day in 2000.

Over the next 20 years, Johnson went on to become one of the most sought-after guitarists and songwriters in rock. Touring extensively with rock icons like ALICE COOPER and THIN LIZZY , and co-writing tracks for the likes of Sammy Hagar , Stevie Nicks , Carlos Santana and Steven Tyler , Johnson 's profile steadily rose.

2019 found Johnson recording with producer Nick Raskulinecz ( FOO FIGHTERS , KORN , RUSH ) and releasing the critically acclaimed debut from DAMON JOHNSON & THE GET READY , 2020's "Battle Lessons" . It was while supporting that record in 2021 that he received the call that any guitarist that grew up in the south could only dream of: filling in for Gary Rossington in the legendary LYNYRD SKYNYRD . Touring with SKYNYRD , Johnson was pleasantly surprised at how many fans not only remembered BROTHER CANE , but shared their stories on how much the band and those songs meant to them. "Will you ever get back together? Would you ever tour again? Please!!??" Those big questions are now getting a big answer: "Hell Yes!"

BROTHER CANE will perform select dates in 2022, with plans for a full tour in 2023 — and for some new music.

"I'm just over the moon about this," says Johnson . " BROTHER CANE fans are some of the most passionate that I've encountered in all of my travels." He adds, "I'm certainly proud of all these songs, and the guys and I are looking forward to bringing them to the people once again."

Beloved Alabama rock band reuniting for 2022 shows, full 2023 tour

They scored rock radio hits. Toured with Van Halen, Aerosmith and Robert Plant. And they’re probably the biggest and baddest hard-rock band to ever come from Alabama.

And now, ‘90s faves Brother Cane are back. Singer/guitarist Damon Johnson and the band’s original bassist Glenn Maxey are reuniting for live shows this year. The new lineup also boasts Aerosmith touring musician Buck Johnson on keyboards/backing vocals and Johnson’s solo band drummer Jared Pope.

The first show announced is for 8 p.m. April 22 at Milwaukee’s Northern Lights Theater. Tickets start at $20 and go on sale 3 p.m. March 3 via paysbig.com/shows/brother-cane .

Back the day, the Midwest was a strong market for Brother Cane. Johnson has maintained those connection in decades since, during an impressive career in which he played guitar in Alice Cooper’s touring band and as a latter day member of Thin Lizzy. Last year, Johnson got the call to play guitar for Southern-rock heroes Lynyrd Skynyrd, stepping in for original member Gary Rossington, who’s been recuperating from heart issues.

Johnson tells AL.com he plans to later add Brother Cane shows this year for Birmingham, the city where the band was founded, and Nashville, where he currently resides. Maxey is a Huntsville resident and native.

Brother Cane released their self-titled debut album in 1993 on Virgin Records. Sonically, the music evoked a mix of Black Crowes and Guns N’ Roses. Brother Cane’s signature hit: metallic boogie “Got No Shame,” powered by Birmingham blues legend Topper Price’s hot harmonica. The debut album’s other hits included soulful ballad “Hard Act To Follow,” “That Don’t Satisfy Me.” In addition to Johnson and Maxey, the lineup for Brother Cane’s first album and tour included drummer Scott Collier and rhythm guitarist Roman Glick.

Following their ’22 shows, a full Brother Cane tour will follow in 2023, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the band’s debut album, as well as new music from the group. “I’m just over the moon about this,” Johnson says. “Brother Cane fans are some of the most passionate that I’ve encountered in all of my travels.” I’m certainly proud of all these songs, and the guys and I are looking forward to bringing them to the people once again.”

By the band’s second album, 1995′s “Seeds,” they’d parted ways with Maxey, moved Glick to bass and brought Huntsville guitarist Dave Anderson into the fold. “Seeds” birthed the vibey number-one rock hit “And Fools Shine On.” This second lineup remained intact for Brother Cane’s third and (thus far) final album, “Whishpool.” That LP found the band significantly modernizing their sound, as heard on rock radio chart-topper “”I Lie In The Bed I Make.”

After the “Wishpool” touring cycle, Brother Cane dissolved. Glick went on to joining Southern hard-rock band Jackyl. Anderson joined classic-rock band Atlanta Rhythm Section. Maxey stepped away from music, working in industrial electronics for 28 years before reemerging in 2021 join the solo band of Travis McCready, formerly the frontman with rising Mississippi band Bishop Gunn. Johnson last did Brother Cane shows in 2012, with a lineup that included Anderson, Collier and bassist Flip Cooper.

The setlist for the 2022 Brother Cane shows will lean heavily on the debut album, which celebrates its 30th anniversary next year. Johnson says the set will include songs the band hasn’t played since the original era, deep-cuts they’ve never played live, as well as the hits from “Seeds” and “Wishpool.”

In addition to tours with Cooper, Lizzy and Skynyrd (who Johnson will be playing shows with again in 2022), Johnson cowrote songs recorded by stars like Sammy Hagar and Stevie Nicks. Johnson has also built a solid solo career. In 2020, he released his strongest solo effort yet, the Damon Johnson & The Get Ready album “Battle Lessons,” which found Johnson, who grew up in Monroeville and Geraldine, returning to his hard-rock roots.

Brother Cane is an American rock band originally from Birmingham, Alabama. Formed by singer/guitarist Damon Johnson and bassist Glenn Maxey in 1991, the group released three studio albums and several charting singles including three number 1’s and five top 10 hits. Brother Cane found immediate success with the release of its self-titled debut album which delivered three singles: "Got No Shame", “That Don’t Satisfy Me”, and “Hard Act To Follow.” “Got No Shame” reached #1 on the Mainstream Rock charts and garnered the band U.S. tours with Aerosmith, Robert Plant, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

The band's next album, Seeds, yielded another #1 Rock track, the haunting and swampy, “And Fools Shine On.” This hit led to a lengthy and successful tour in support of the mighty, Van Halen. Their last release, Wishpool, brought Brother Cane’s third #1 song at Rock Radio, “I Lie In The Bed I Make”. After major personnel changes at Virgin Records, the band's label, as well as a major shift in style at rock and alt radio formats, the band went on what turned out to be an extended hiatus. During this time, Damon toured the world as the guitarist for legends, Alice Cooper and Thin Lizzy. Just when he thought all of his musical dreams had come true, In early 2021 Damon was asked to fill in for the legendary Guitarist and founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gary Rossington. A position that Damon still holds today. While touring with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Johnson was pleasantly surprised on how many fans not only remembered Brother Cane but shared their stories on how much the band and those songs meant to them. “Will you ever get back together? Would you ever tour again? Please!!??” Those are big questions, and they deserved a big answer, “Hell Yes!”

Brother Cane is headed back to the studio with the original producer, Marti Frederiksen, and will be performing on select dates in 2022 with plans for a new release and full tour in 2023!

Got No Shame is a GREAT song…loved it back in ’93. I forgot about these guys, I should give that first album a listen…

Not too long ago I revisited the first album. I don’t recommend it. It has not aged well. Just my opinion though.

Brother Cane

About brother cane.

Brother Cane is an American rock band originally from Birmingham, Alabama. Formed by singer/guitarist Damon Johnson and bassist Glenn Maxey in 1991, the group released three studio albums and several charting singles including three number 1’s and five top 10 hits. Brother Cane found immediate success with the release of its self-titled debut album which delivered three singles: “Got No Shame”, “That Don’t Satisfy Me”, and “Hard Act To Follow.” “Got No Shame” reached #1 on the Mainstream Rock charts and garnered the band U.S. tours with Aerosmith, Robert Plant, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

The band’s next album, Seeds, yielded another #1 Rock track, the haunting and swampy, “And Fools Shine On.” This hit led to a lengthy and successful tour in support of the mighty, VanHalen. Their last release, Wishpool, brought Brother Cane’s third #1 song at Rock Radio, “I Lie In The Bed I Make”. After major personnel changes at Virgin Records, the band’s label, as well as a major shift in style at rock and alt radio formats, the band went on what turned out to be an extended hiatus. Please!!?? Those are big questions, and they deserved a big answer, “Hell Yes!”

Brother Cane is headed back to the studio with the original producer, Marti Frederiksen, and will be performing on select dates in 2022 with plans for a new release and full tour in 2023!
