River Cruise on Luxurious Radisson Boat

Equipped with ice-breaking technology, these huge fancy yachts are the only river cruisers running all year around. The round trip journey takes two and a half hours and floats past all the big sights like the White House, Novodevichy monastery and the Kremlin. There’s a large open air observation deck up top, while the main body of the ship houses a restaurant with a dance floor for a romantic post dinner dance. For a particularly romantic experience take one of the evening boats and admire the bright lights of the city skyline at night.

The most relaxing and picturesque tour that Moscow can offer: a great way to see the city center and its main attractions. This is a perfect alternative to exploring the city by car, if you only have time to do sightseeing during weekday rush hours.

Your English-speaking guide is eager to share every bit of their knowledge about the surrounding landscape, the architecture and historical details.

We conduct Moscow river tour on Radisson Flotilla boats all year around!  It’s warm inside during winter months, while there’s air conditioning during hot summer days. You may also treat yourself to drinks, lunch or dinner on board (drinks and food are not included in tour price).

Check out Moscow’s NEW electric river trams (PHOTOS)

metro cruise events

Water transportation has become another sector for the eco-friendly improvements the Moscow government is implementing. And it means business. On July 15, 2021, on the dock of Moscow’s ‘Zaryadye’ park, mayor Sergey Sobyanin was shown the first model of the upcoming river cruise boat.

metro cruise events

The model of the electrical boat with panoramic windows measures 22 meters in length. The river tram - as Muscovites call them - has a passenger capacity of 42, including two disabled seats. The trams will also get cutting edge info panels, USB docking stations, Wi-Fi, spaces for scooters and bicycles, as well as chairs and desks for working on the go. The boats will be available all year round, according to ‘Mosgortrans’, the regional transport agency.

metro cruise events

Passengers will be able to pay with their ‘Troika’ public transport card, credit cards or bank cards.

The main clientele targeted are people living in Moscow’s river districts - the upcoming trams will shorten their travel time in comparison to buses and other transportation by five times, Mosgortrans stated.

metro cruise events

As the river trams are being rolled out, Moscow docks will also see mini-stations, some of which will also be outfitted with charging docks for speed-charging the boats.

metro cruise events

Moscow is set to announce the start of the tender for construction and supply in September 2021. The first trams are scheduled to launch in June 2022 on two routes - from Kievskaya Station, through Moscow City, into Fili; and from ZIL to Pechatniki.

metro cruise events

“Two full-scale routes will be created in 2022-2023, serviced by 20 river trams and a number of river stations. We’ll continue to develop them further if they prove to be popular with the citizens,” the Moscow mayor said .

How to make the most of 2024 Woodward Dream Cruise: When it starts, where to park, events

Portrait of Liam Rappleye

On Saturday, about 1 million car enthusiasts will converge upon metro Detroit with the same goal: appreciating sweet rides.

But the festivities don't start Saturday — the Dream Cruise is a weeklong celebration that began in 1995. Car collectors slowly cruise along Woodward Avenue from Ferndale to Pontiac, with plenty of special events along the way. For many, the annual event is a hallmark of the last days of summer, taking place on the third Saturday of every August.

As the annual celebration of automotive history approaches, here is everything you need to know to make the most of it.

Where to park for Dream Cruise

For an event targeted at car enthusiasts, it can be hard to get a car to the area. The 16-mile cruise makes Woodward Avenue partially inaccessible. Attendees should expect to get their steps in while walking from a parking lot to the heart of the car show.

According to the Woodward Dream Cruise's official website , each city along the route will offer public parking.

In Birmingham , cruise-related activities will be within walking distance of the parking decks located downtown, which are free for the first two hours of parking.

In Ferndale , the genesis of the cruise, several public parking lots surround downtown.

In Pontiac , public lots and parking garages dot the map around the downtown area, where the cruise will come to a close amid a slew of other activities.

In Royal Oak , public parking lots within walking distance from Woodward will be available, though in high demand. Additional parking will be available at the Royal Oak Golf Center, Gunn Dyer Park and Upton Park near Coolidge Highway.

To find a specific parking solution for the weekend, visit the Woodward Dream Cruise parking information Facebook page , where you can find the right place to reserve a spot.

Dream Cruise 2024 map

Ditch the car, take the bus.

On Saturday, SMART buses will provide a free shuttle service for people hoping to attend the cruise without the stress of finding a parking spot.

To catch a ride, just hop on at any red SMART or FAST stop along Woodward from Ferndale to Pontiac. The free shuttles, which are wheelchair accessible and equipped with bike racks, will be available from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

What to do in Ferndale during Dream Cruise

Ferndale is where the cruise begins, and it is also the home of many free-to-attend Dream Cruise-related events on Friday and Saturday. On both days, there will be live music, along with food and merchandise vendors.

  • Ferndale Emergency Vehicle Show: From 1-7 p.m., the emergency vehicle show will showcase all the coolest cars with sirens at the corner of 9 Mile Road and Woodward. At 5:30, the Lights and Sirens cruise parade will begin. The route will coast along 9 Mile then head north to 11 Mile and swing back to 9 Mile.

  • Mustang Alley: From 10 a.m.-6 p.m., one of the largest car shows of the cruise will feature more than 650 Mustangs in downtown Ferndale. The ponies will stretch from Planavon to Hilton Road along 9 Mile. What to do in Pleasant Ridge during Dream Cruise

  • The Ford Bronco Corral: Collectors and enthusiasts of the Ford Bronco will be meeting for the "corral," an annual showcase of the recently remastered Ford classic. The Broncos will meet from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday at Woodward and Oakland Park Boulevard.

What to do in Berkeley during Dream Cruise

  • Berkley CruiseFest Parade: On Friday, beginning at 6:30 p.m., nearly 400 cars are registered to drive along in Berkley's annual Dream Cruise parade. The parade will travel west down 12 Mile Road from Woodward to Greenfield. Following the parade, there will be live music and movie screenings in downtown Berkeley.

The event, hosted from noon-10:30 p.m. on Friday and again from 10 a.m.-10:30 p.m. on Saturday, aims to immerse attendees in the culture of 1964, with Beatles, Beach Boys and Motown cover bands and throwback fashion. Long-forgotten car revs back to life during Woodward Dream Cruise

Jay leno takes restored car to woodward dream cruise.

Shawnte Passmore , Reporter

PONTIAC, Mich. – Dreams really do come true during the Woodward Dream Cruise as a long-forgotten car revs up back to life.

In front of the Williams International headquarters, the worlds of Hollywood and Metro Detroit collided. Gregg Williams, president and CEO of Williams International, and Hollywood legend Jay Leno met on an overcast Saturday.

“It was a real pleasure and honor for our team,” Williams told Leno in front of a film crew. “It was a team of all volunteers.”

Full-time comic, and part-time car enthusiast, Leno is known for his massive and rare collection -- including an unusual car. A turbine car Chrysler built in the early 1960s. Needless to say, it’s special to him.

“Well, it’s a part of my history because they had one at the World’s Fair in 1964 to see it,” Leno said. “It made a jet noise . . . going around and around. So, it’s always been a part of my history and I met a lot of guys exactly my age who also saw it at the World’s Fair.”

Just like most vintage cars, this one gave Leno some trouble when the engine died.

So, who better to fix it than Williams International, a design and manufacturer of gas turbine engines. Gregg Williams’ father founded the company only after working for Chrysler on the you guessed it . . . turbine car. Not only did it take time to source the materials, but it also required some time-traveling to rebuild the motor by revisiting the engineering behind it.

Williams’ told Local 4 the project took about two years with the eureka moment happening about a week ago.

The final act? She started up beautifully with the engine sounding more like a plane on a tarmac. This turbine is ready for takeoff. Next stop: Woodward Dream Cruise.

“The history of what I love – the automobile is based here in Detroit,” Leno said.

---> Your guide to the 2024 Woodward Dream Cruise: What you need to know

This is a Chrysler Turbine Car built in the 60s. Super rare car and few are operable including Jay Leno’s car. Williams International rebuilt the engine because the company’s founder spearheaded the design while employed by Chrysler. The project required volunteers and took about two years to finish. Sounds like a plane! The car will debut during the Woodward Dream Cruise. Posted by WDIV Local 4 / ClickOnDetroit on Saturday, August 17, 2024

Cruise ship makes dramatic rescue to save migrants on stricken boat

A British holidaymaker captured the moment a cruise ship came to the aid of an overcrowded boat taking migrants on a perilous journey across the Ionian Sea.

The stricken vessel was adrift 112 nautical miles south-west of the Greek coastal town of Pylos when the Royal Caribbean liner’s crew diverted to answer the distress call.

The captain made an emergency announcement, saying that all ships in the area had been requested to attend the sinking boat, as the liner altered course en-route to Santorini.

The luxurious Odyssey of the Seas, which is 1,138ft long and has 16 decks, launched two smaller boats to bring the drifting vessel alongside and transfer 77 people onboard.

The occupants included 36 men, seven women and 34 children.

Kevin Gibbons, 41, an ex-pat from the UK who lives in Spain, watched the rescue unfold on Monday night.

‘The crew did an amazing job, sending out two rescue boats to tow the overloaded sinking boat back to the cruise ship,’ he said.

‘Where you can see they were all transferred to the cruise ship awaiting the arrival of the coast guard and authorities to take over.

‘I understand it’s international law to rescue any sinking ship or distress call at sea, I totally accept it’s the right thing to do, but surely the whole world, including the rich states need to do more to assist and deter these deathly attempts to reach Europe.’

Twenty-seven of the rescued were transferred to a Hellenic Coast Guard patrol boat and the remaining 50 onto the Panagia Thalassini passenger-launch before being disembarked at the Greek port of Kalamata.

The liner had to reschedule a port stop in Santorini because of the diversion, with the anchoring taking place yesterday instead.

A Royal Caribbean spokesperson said: ‘On August 5, 2024, the ship encountered a small vessel adrift and in need of assistance.

‘Alongside the Greek Coast Guard, the ship’s crew immediately launched a rescue operation and has returned to its sailing.’

A spokesperson for Greece’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Island Policy told Metro.co.uk: ‘Under the coordination of the Unified Search and Rescue Coordination Centre, 77 foreigners who were onboard a sailing vessel were located and rescued from the Royal Caribbean cruise ship in the sea area 112 nautical miles south-west of Pylos.

‘Then the foreigners were transferred to the port of Kalamata.’

According to the Greek Coast Guard, the ‘foreigners’ said that they had launched from an unknown point on the Turkish coast near Bodrum destined for Italy.

They are said to have stated that they paid people traffickers 8,000 euros each (£6,800) for their passage to Europe, taking them across a hazardous stretch of water.

The Greek authorities arrested two men and one woman, aged 48, 36 and 26 respectively, on immigration, people trafficking and exposure of life to danger charges.

An investigation into their activities and possible links with wider organised crime networks is being carried out by the Port Authority of Kalamata and the Directorate of Security and Protection of Maritime Borders.

The perilous nature of the journeys undertaken by migrants trying to cross the Mediterranean has previously been highlighted by Metro.co.uk

The Royal Navy recovered a dead body, plucked an underweight 12-day-old baby from an overcrowded ship and gave chase to a wooden boat packed with hundreds of people when it supported EU operations in the region in 2015, our investigation showed.

According to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the central Mediterranean route was the deadliest migration journey in the world last year as ‘desperate’ people tried to reach the safety of Europe.

Nearly 2,500 people died or went missing as they attempted to cross from Algeria, Egypt, Libya and Tunisia to Italy and Malta, the IOM said.
