NOFX Announce Their Final Tour Of Australia

40 years. 40 cities. 40 songs per night. That’s how NOFX are marketing their upcoming Final tour, which you won’t want to miss when the legendary punks return to the east coast of Australia in January 2024.

“This is not a final tour like Mötley Crüe or Black Sabbath ,” vocalist Fat Mike said in a statement. These are the very last shows NOFX will ever be playing. We are gonna play with all our hearts...With all our joy...And then we are done. We are done done.”

Fat Mike told the punk music-loving world that NOFX would be hanging it up back in September 2022. The bass player, primary songwriter and frontman for the Californian punk band made the shocking announcement via the most low-key method imaginable: a  reply to an Instagram comment . 

Responding to a fan who asked why NOFX didn’t tour Canada, Fat Mike replied, "Actually, We love Canada, it’s just that next year will be our last year. We will be announcing our final shows soon. It’s been an amazing run….” He added, “Los Angeles will be the last place we play. It’s where we started, it’s where we’ll end.”

In a November 2022 interview with Kill Your Stereo , Fat Mike told Dan Cribb, “ I'm so sick of being Fat Mike on stage. ”

He continued, “This last tour is going to be very special, and we're playing all the songs we've ever written, and it's so exciting for me - I can't wait. It's going to be really hard and emotional, but I haven't given it my all, and I can't wait to fucking play these albums we've never played before and connect with the crowd.”

He wasn’t kidding about playing all the songs NOFX have ever written on their upcoming tour – on the band’s Final tour of Australia, NOFX will perform over two nights in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, celebrating the following albums: Wolves In Wolves' Clothing, Punk In Drublic, The War On Errorism, White Trash Two Heebs And A Bean, So Long And Thanks For All The Shoes and The Decline.

In addition to playing three albums a night, NOFX will also bring out some rarities.

The general on-sale begins this Friday, 8 September, at 10 am, but Live Nation Australia, SBM and NOFX subscribers can access pre-sale tickets on Thursday, 7 September, from 10 am until 9 am the following day.

Nofx announces frenzal rhomb, bodyjar and more as support on last-ever australian tour.

Following their slot at last year's Good Things festival, the notorious band will be coming back for one final run.

The legendary punk band NOFX has announced the support acts for their highly-anticipated 40 Years 40 Cities 40 Songs Per Night, set to take place early in 2024.

The band will be bringing a wide range of local talent along for the ride, including Frenzal Rhomb, Bodyjar, Flangipanis, Clown,  The Bennies, VOIID and more.

Australian fans will have one last chance to catch and fire and fury of the iconic punk rock band NOFX live in action when they stop by in January.

On the first nights in each city, the bands will be focusing the setlist on tracks from the albums Wolves’ In Wolves Clothing, Punk in Drublic and The War On Errorism, while on the second night, they’ll be working their way through White Trash, Two Heebs And A Bean, So Long And Thanks For All The Shoes and The Decline.

No setlist will be the same and each will be a whopping 40 songs long as the bang promises to go out with a bang.

“This is not a final tour like Mötley Crüe or Black Sabbath. These are the very last shows NOFX will ever be playing,” said bassist and lead vocalist Fat Mike in a statement. “We are gonna play with all our hearts…With all our joy…And then we are done. We are done done.”

After forming in the early ’80s, NOFX quickly became a foundational force in the American hardcore and skate punk scenes before gaining a cult global following. Their distinct combination of thrashing power chords, hectic stage performances and humorous yet political lyricism has influenced generations of musicians and won over fans across the world.

Their send-off is expected to be rowdy, loud and a little emotional – as it should be.

NOFX Add New Dates, Supports To Australian Tour

So Cal punk’s finest NOFX have announced some fair dinkum Australian punk royalty as supports for their upcoming Australian tour, as well as some fresh dates for their rapidly selling tour.

Joining Fat Mike, El Hefe, Melvin, and Smelly will be some of Australia’s finest homegrown punk bands, Frenzal Rhomb, The Bennies, Bodyjar, Local Resident Failure, and Army Of Champions.

These bands will play on various nights but there’s no doubt that with acts like Bodyjar and Frenzal Rhomb joining the bill, things will definitely be getting Punk In Drublic , the classic NOFX gold album which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.

NOFX’s latest Australian tour will be the first the band have played before local audiences since the release of last year’s EP Stoke Extinguisher and 2012’s full length album Self Entitled . So if you’re heading to the gigs strap yourself in to hear tunes like 72 Hookers and Xmas Has Been X’ed live for first time in Australia.

Tickets to many of the shows have already sold out but extra dates have been added to Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. Tickets are on sale now so hurry up! You can check out which supports acts are playing where and full tour details below.

Formed in 1983 in Los Angeles, California, NOFX is an American punk rock/ ska punk band currently consisting of members, Fat Mike, El Hefe, Eric Melvin and Erik Sandin.

In 1983 Mike Burkett (Fat Mike) and Eric Melvin met and started the band, and were later joined by Erik Sandin. The group released their first album in 1985 with Mystic Records. The band then underwent a lineup change, but through the changes, the original three members remained intact. In 1986 the band released an album attacking the PMRC (Parents Music Resource Center) for their campaign against music censorship with “The P.M.R.C Can Suck On This.” Following this album was “Liberal Animation” in 1988, which was recorded with Bad Religion’s Brett Gurewitz.

The collaboration with Gurewitz led to the band signing with Epitaph Records, and releasing their third studio album “Ribbed.” Shortly after the release, Aaron Abeyta, aka El Hefe, replaced Steve Kidwiller on guitar, followed by “White Trash, Two Heebs and A Bean” being released in 1992. In 1994 they released their best selling album, “Punk in Drublic” and received support from the mainstream media, as well as reaching certified gold.

Following a series of record releases that all fared well, the band made the move to sign with Fat Wreck Chords in 2005. The band continued to release albums that challenged the social and political systems that they didn’t agree with, and did so in true punk fashion.

Live reviews

NOFX, as many bands playing the main stage at the Reading Festival do, once performed in front of a banner stating their name. No surprises there, except theirs was about the size of a tea towel, visible to only the front few rows (who found the whole thing hilarious, of course). As an act, it pretty much summed up what makes them continually endearing – their refusal to pander to the rock and roll game, and a bratty sense of humour that still dictates the legendary punk rock band’s every decision even as they enter middle age. They might never have had a hit, but the devotion of their fans is palpable, with everyone from those in their early teens to hardened, Mohawk sporting gentlemen who can remember a time before colour television belting back ever puerile lyric that emanates from singer Fat Mike’s mouth. Circle pits and rampant moshing are commonplace, but the atmosphere is one of joyous release rather than aggression. One word of advice though; if you’re in the front row and Fat Mike offers you a drink, perhaps politely decline – it’s probably not meant for human consumption, unless you’re in to some particularly racy stuff in your private life.

Fat Mike, El Hefe, Eric Melvin and Erik Sandin are the foursome that make up NOFX, a punk rock band of American origin. Although the band enjoyed their hay day (if, indeed, they even got to celebrate such a thing) in the 80s, boasting a pretty low score of hits, they nonetheless garnered a great deal of underground attention and built quite the fan following. NOFX are far from gimmicky, if anything the band is surprisingly low key and understated for their genre. But each member is truly talented and the band represents real, rockin’ American punk. They have mastered their musical capabilities to exceptional heights over the decades and slowly cemented their tongue-in-cheek bitterness only to combine the two in what was a brilliant, nostalgic and tongue in cheek performance. The crowd went crazy for classics such as 'Bottles To The Ground', 'We Called It America' and 'Murder The Government': they belted the lyrics along in full force, to the surprise and delight of the band. Fat Mike commented his delight that someone knew the lyrics because the band had long forgot them. All in all a great night.

NOFX, the Californian punk rockers have been working as a group for thirty years now and over this time they have learned both how to play their music to an exceptional level and how to entertain the masses with their tongue in cheek performance style.

Something of a cult phenomena in the UK, the band never matched the commerciality they achieved in the States yet fans from far and wide have packed into London's Shepherd's Bush Empire to see the classic material played alongside the new stuff. Starting with a piercing '60%', the band begins with an unimaginable high amount of energy that never really seems to falter.

As the crowd claps, cheers and sings along through favourites including 'Bottles To The Ground' 'We Called It America' and 'Murder The Government'. There is a sense of bitterness in nearly all of Fat Mike's vocals and the audience enjoy mimicking this during their singalong. The band thanks the crowd sincerely and explains they are the reason they continue to visit British shores and give them a modern day taste of Americana punk.

Useless ID was amazing, they had awesome stage presence and their music was tight. Pears was explosive and super fast, I was so excited when they played some of my favorite songs (Snowflake in particular). Then NOFX took the stage, oh boy, Fat mike was pissed that Trump won the election. Given the recent political mayhem in the US, they played songs like "Murder The Government" "The IDIOT has Taken Over" and "Leaving Jesusland". Now let me say, If your not a fan of NOFX you wouldn't like this show. NOFX is famously lazy in their playing and stage presence, but that just added to the experience for me. The entire crowd was a pit when they played "Separation of Church and Skate" and I got elbowed in the side of the head a couple of times. 10/10 would go deaf again.

The concert was the day of trumps election, and the previous show mike sprained his ankle. Suffice to say Fat Mike was not having a good night, and it showed. The band was totally not into playing and you could tell they just wanted to get off stage. CLASSIC NOFX, awesome show 10/10 would get called a poser again.

Now I'm just writing something else to comply with the rule that a review must be at least 30 words long. Kind of an utterly moronic rule, since I don't really need more words to describe a performance such as this one.

It was awesome! They were entertaining, energetic and just great! Good music, great laughs! It was just so cool how they interact with the crowd! Looking forward to seeing them again!

Show was amazing. No complaints. Keep up the good work. Drink stands were food. Service was good. Security was good. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the good experience.

I loved the show, but I could do without all of the starter bands. NOFX only played for about an hour and a half compared to the 6 hours of starter bands.

NOFX: the final tour

“The first time that I saw NOFX, they were the fastest band I’d ever seen”.

Punk Rock is something that turned my life upside down when I was 15. It was The Ramones, Black Flag, Descendents, The Damned, Local Resident Failure (Newcastle Represent) and NOFX. From day 1, it was always them. Being 16 years old and going to a Punk Rock show was a foreign concept to me. But NOFX was coming to town with Frenzal Rhomb, I couldn’t miss it.

It was the first and only time my mum had to wait with me and pick me up as it was an 18+ venue. I paced the lounge room waiting to go, to be with ‘my people’. It’s a little embarrassing looking back at it.

I was let loose into a room of punks. The PA that I found myself situated in was so busted and loud that I couldn’t hear out of my left ear for days. I couldn’t make out a single song Frenzal Rhomb was playing, and I was the only person cheering for the newer NOFX songs. It was the best. 

Fast forward 9 years and 2 more NOFX shows later, almost the same show I saw as a 16 year old was coming to Brisbane, but this time it was going to be a bit more emotional. NOFX have decided to call it a day; but not without one final visit to the nice Australians. I’m now 26 and can do this on my own. Hopefully without crying but even now I can’t make any promises. For the 4th and possibly final time, I was ready for NOFX, Frenzal Rhomb and Flangipanis.

Flangipanis: Brandishing a sincere “G’day C*nts” and an acknowledgement of country leading up to the ever divisive January 26th (the land we stand on is stolen land. There is no pride in genocide), the local punk scene is well represented by Flangipanis.

The strongest weapon of peace is your voice. And Flangipanis shoot that weapon with an aim so direct that even if you avoid getting hit, you can feel it. Even when singing a song that vocalist Jodie Lawler is telling you a song is about “anal sex” or telling incels to “stop killing women” it’s like a metaphoric dagger to the heart. Exactly how punk rock should be. 

Ever heard a song go from hardcore punk, into a metalcore-esque breakdown, back into hardcore, then into ska punk before returning to hardcore once again? All in the space of 2 and a half minutes? Flangipanis wrote it. And the crowd f*cking loved it. When bands like NOFX and Frenzal Rhomb are in town, it’s no secret that the Brisbane punk contingency will be there. A nearly packed out room for the local support on a Tuesday night is incredible. 

Their ability to combine the party punk sounds that Australia is renowned for whilst hitting all the hard topics like having a sh*t haircut, Flangipanis were loud, proud and fun. It really doesn’t get any better for a show opener.

Frenzal Rhomb: if you’re an Australian punk and you’ve never seen Frenzal Rhomb before… where the hell have you been? The iconic 4 piece have been doing this for over 3 decades and only appear to be aging like a fine box of goon.

The ever loved impromptu introductory jam of ‘When Will I be Loved’ by ‘The Everly Brothers’ would crash straight into ‘Where Drug Dealers take their Kids’ from the bands latest album ‘The Cup of Pestilence’. 

Frenzal have become a regular staple when NOFX come to town, having done so since the mid 90s. Hand in hand like cigarettes and cheap wine, you can’t have one without the other. 

Busting out the timeless hits, songs like ‘Mr Charisma’ ‘Bucket Bong’ and ‘Russell Crowe’s band’ would send the crowd into a frenzy (pun intended? You be the judge) The band balances the hits without leaving an album behind, a perfect opportunity to introduce you to the chaos that is Frenzals discography. But seriously, if you don’t know who Frenzal are by now, what are you doing? 

“We are f*cking ancient” says guitarist Lindsay McDougall. But you wouldn’t believe it by watching them. Guitar tricks, running back and forth, jumping off any elevated or flat surface they could possibly find, there was no part of the stage left untouched. Meanwhile instead of jumping around I’m sitting here with a pain in my neck. Count your blessings dammit. 

There seems to be no slowing down for Frenzal Rhomb. However it seems they’re going to have to find another band to link up with if this is truly NOFX’ farewell. We’ll have to just wait and see. 

Also fun fact; Frenzal Rhomb bassist ‘Dal’ was bassist/vocalist of aforementioned Newcastle punk band ‘Local Resident Failure’ who actually opened for NOFX/Frenzal Rhomb the first time I saw them. This was such a full circle moment for me.

NOFX: So is this really it? 40 years summarised into 2 nights with 40 songs a night? If it really is then it doesn’t get much better than this. Tonight, we celebrate the albums ‘The War on Errorism’ ‘Wolves in Wolves Clothing’ & the iconic ‘Punk in Drublic’.

Generations have gathered here tonight. It feels like the most casual funeral you’ve ever been to. Everyone is dressed in black and pissed out of their brains to numb the pain of leaving that is about to occur. Or to at least to compensate the price of entry.

The sounds of Reggae soon turn into the ‘Time Warp’ as Fat Mike gallivants and dances his way across the stage. With their signature banter (thankfully leaving the very awkward Trans joke out this time) referring to Brisbane as the Armpit of Australia, the 1st of 2 farewell shows has begun.

“Personally I think Wolves is our best album” says Fat Mike after blitzing through ‘60%’ & ‘Seeing Double at Triple Rock’ before Hefe jumps in to say “if you shook my hand today, you have my Covid” It’s hard to tell if he’s joking, but if not I hope you didn’t have plans to see night 2.

“I don’t know if you can tell but we actually practiced” before struggling to put together the introduction to ‘Franco Unamerican’ is absolutely ironic. But in true NOFX fashion they powered through it and just hoped it would all work out. The crowd didn’t care, it was time to go ballistic. If Mike wasn’t singing, the crowd was there to cover it. 

The notorious “they suck live” comment has become a fixture in NOFX history; (and I’ve seen my fair share of slightly awful NOFX performances) but it seems the band wants these final shows to be a little more put together. 

If you’re expecting to hear only the 3 advertised albums per night, well guess again my friends. Tapping into some tunes from ‘Coaster’ & ‘First Ditch Effort’ the band sprinkled a little bit of variety through the set. These 40 song sets don’t write themselves you know. And even if they did, the band wasn’t following them. Don’t bother looking up the set in advance, just enjoy this moment whilst it’s here.

“What would Blink do?” Says Fat Mike, before announcing it was time to play some harder songs. Would I classify ‘She’s Nubs’ as a hard song? Maybe tempo wise. But who cares? She’s nubs. But it couldn’t be NOFX all the time, as the band busts out a cover of ‘Radio’ by Rancid as Hefe takes over vocals duties. A fun little addition to an already stacked night. But when that turned into the power chords of ‘Linoleum’ the sound was deafening. Not a single beat was missed, nor a lyric missed. If there was one song they were going to absolutely nail, I’m glad it was this one.

The band would take a small intermission of as they called it “we have prostates and need a piss break” before getting right back into their “18 song encore”. There is nothing wrong with taking an encore, let’s be real. It’s a chance to breathe and piss, maybe it would be more widely accepted if it was just called a piss break? 

When did punk rock become so safe? Well that depends on who you ask. The crowd made the use of the wide open dance floor to the fullest degree. Bodies were flying over the barricade or into each other. The lucky ones were continually coming out to the bar drenched in sweat and trying to catch their breath. But the most important thing? They were smiling. In such a sad moment for punk rock not just in Australia but world wide, the joy couldn’t be contained. And if that isn’t the most beautiful thing about punk, I don’t know what is.

Rounding out with a 2024 adaption of ‘Theme from a NOFX Album’ where the band would in true fashion make themselves the brunt of a joke, the crowd would unite in a moment of solitude. This could be be the very last time for some, it’s important to sink it all in.

I’d be lying if I said my expectations were low before tonight. I wasn’t 100% sure of the NOFX we’d get and just what was going to occur. But what I got was the band that blew this 15 year olds mind the first time I heard them and I am perfectly okay with being wrong. It was a culmination of 40 years broken down into the first 2 hours of a 4 hour farewell that in the end just wasn’t long enough. 

They were crude, controversial, and sometimes downright f*cked up. But still, there goes one of the best damn bands punk rock has ever seen.

If this really is the end, I’m glad I got to be a part of it.

THE FINAL NOFX TOUR  

Inf luential punk band NOFX is known as one of the world’s most controversial and significant punk bands of their time. They are no strangers to pushing boundaries at their live shows, and their final tour will be no different. The dream tea m of NOFX and Cameron Collins from Brew Ha Ha Productions and the Punk In Drublic Craft Beer & Music Festival has joined forces to curate the first wave of announced tour dates in the United States.

18 additional shows in 9 North American cities have been announced for the NOFX Final Tour, including the last NOFX shows ever--October 4, 5 and 6, 2024, in Los Angeles at San Pedro’s Berth 46.  Options include single day, the Bro Bundle, VIP, and more, including a digital download of each show with ticket purchase.

The in-progress forty cities around the world tour began on April 22, 2023 in Austin, TX. The trek includes shows in Australia in January, Europe in May and June, and the April – October 2024 North American dates. NOFX will perform forty songs a night, including full albums and rarities at all shows during the NOFX Final Tour. Plus, they will never repeat a setlist to ensure that each show is unique.

Nofx announces frenzal rhomb, bodyjar and more as support on last-ever australian tour.

Following their slot at last year's Good Things festival, the notorious band will be coming back for one final run.

The legendary punk band NOFX has announced the support acts for their highly-anticipated 40 Years 40 Cities 40 Songs Per Night, set to take place early in 2024.

Australian fans will have one last chance to catch and fire and fury of the iconic punk rock band NOFX live in action when they stop by in January.

On the first nights in each city, the bands will be focusing the setlist on tracks from the albums Wolves’ In Wolves Clothing, Punk in Drublic and The War On Errorism, while on the second night, they’ll be working their way through White Trash, Two Heebs And A Bean, So Long And Thanks For All The Shoes and The Decline.

No setlist will be the same and each will be a whopping 40 songs long as the bang promises to go out with a bang.

“This is not a final tour like Mötley Crüe or Black Sabbath. These are the very last shows NOFX will ever be playing,” said bassist and lead vocalist Fat Mike in a statement. “We are gonna play with all our hearts…With all our joy…And then we are done. We are done done.”

After forming in the early ’80s, NOFX quickly became a foundational force in the American hardcore and skate punk scenes before gaining a cult global following. Their distinct combination of thrashing power chords, hectic stage performances and humorous yet political lyricism has influenced generations of musicians and won over fans across the world.

Their send-off is expected to be rowdy, loud and a little emotional – as it should be.

Before saying goodbye after 40 years together, punk rock band NOFX are going all out for their newly announced farewell tour. During their final run of shows, the Los Angeles band will perform in 40 cities with a unique 40-song setlist for each night. And once they walk off stage at the very last show, they won’t be coming back .

“This is not a final tour like Mötley Crüe or Black Sabbath,” NOFX’s Fat Mike shared in a press release. “These are the very last shows NOFX will ever be playing. We are gonna play with all our hearts…With all our joy…And then we are done. We are done done.”

NOFX are kicking off their farewell with the announcement of 12 of the forthcoming 40 shows, with the tour scheduled to begin this spring and wrap in 2024 after the band has said their proper goodbyes.

NOFX first announced their plans to split up in September 2022. “Actually, we love Canada, it’s just that next year will be our last year,” Fat Mike wrote at the time in an Instagram comment to a fan inquiring about why the band doesn’t come up north anymore. “We will be announcing our final shows soon. It’s been an amazing run….” Replying to a separate comment, he added, “Los Angeles will be the last place we play. It’s where we started, it’s where we’ll end.”

Northam's 'Flying 50' helps preserve a piece of Australian racing history

The streets of a West Australian country town have been transformed into an old-school race track in celebration of the storied history of Australian motorsport.

With roads closed and bollards erected, the streets of Northam, 100 kilometres east of Perth in WA's Wheatbelt, turn into a 1950s inspired racetrack almost overnight, where thousands of spectators watch time trial action up close. 

Prior to the creation of purpose-built tracks such as Wanneroo Raceway and the Collie Motorplex, car enthusiasts took to the streets of towns such as Northam, Geraldton, Narrogin, Pingelly, Beverley and Albany. 

The only two around-the-town style events that remain in Australia — Northam and Albany — are both in WA.

Northam Motor Sport Festival co-event coordinator Randle Beavis attributed the event's long-term success to the community's natural curiosity for days gone by. 

"We are continually showing people, as they migrate away from cities and move to country regions, which we know they're doing ... that this is what used to happen once upon a time," Mr Beavis said.

"For this year's 90 competitors it is a chance to do something they may have never done before, all while showing off their pride and joy."

First run in 1952, before being phased out later that decade, the Northam Flying 50 re-emerged in 1999.

Entrant numbers for the 2024 event, held at the weekend, were the highest since before the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Mr Beavis said safety was a key component of the event's continuation in the Wheatbelt.

"WA is unbelievably fortunate to get the only two events that the country has both in the same state," Mr Beavis said.

"We have recreated and managed each year's events in a manner that is showing the general public, shires and insurance companies that we can set up, run and achieve these events in today's world without any issues. 

"We've been doing it for that long that the authorities have realised that these people know what they're doing, they can do it safely."

Mr Beavis said organisers with hopes of replicating the success of the Northam Flying 50 often had a critical eye on the event. 

"We have been scrutinised, and we continually get scrutinised, because various motorsport groups on the east coast are always looking to do these kinds of events, and they keep getting knocked back," he said.

"We're under immense scrutiny about our events to make sure that we run them correctly, and that we don't have any major issues — but they can't find a reason to shut us down — that's how we see it."

Women's contribution

The theme of this year's festival was Celebrating Women in Australian Motorsport. 

Car enthusiast and first-time attendee, Janielle Andersen, showcased a 1934 Ford Coupe hot rod she shared with her partner in the show and shine competition.

Ms Andersen said the competitive spirit of V8 Supercars and Formula 1 increased her appreciation for all things automotive.

"I've always been the person who keeps a keen eye out for new cars on the road, cars I want to own and appreciated cars in all the senses," she said.

"Being a part of a car club has given us the ability to travel to different towns and make new friends. 

"The race around the streets has been a stand out today; it's exciting to be at an event where people are actually racing the cars that they are showcasing."

Shire of Northam President Chris Antonio said the event was a focal point of the town's calendar, bringing in hundreds of thousands of dollars to local businesses. 

"It's one of our four main cornerstone events of the year where people out of town travel to our shire and inject much-needed funds into our community," he said.

"I've already spoken to people who have booked their accommodation ready to come back next year which is a really good indication that we are doing something really special here."
