With dozens of bite-sized, melt-in-your-mouth plates, creative cocktails, and live music nights, Tim Marin provides the perfect energy and atmosphere to kickstart your weekend in The Bronx.

8 pm: Check into your hotel

Exterior of Opera House Hotel at dusk

For a family-friendly stay, head to Marriott Residence Inn, Metro Center , with one- and two-bedroom suites to accommodate the kids, as well as free breakfast, and a pet-friendly policy in case Fido is part of your traveling family. For a more luxurious experience, check into Opera House Hotel  (pictured). This historic property was at one time the great Bronx Opera House, hosting performances by Harry Houdini, the Marx Brothers, and John and Lionel Barrymore. The renovated hotel in its space offers nice perks like a continental breakfast and occasionally a complimentary cookie hour.

7 am: Watch the sunrise at Orchard Beach

Wake up early and head to the only public beach in the Bronx, Orchard Beach. Part of Pelham Bay Park—the largest public park in New York City!—Orchard Beach was created in the 1930s and was once proclaimed “The Riviera of New York,” where families from all over the city came for sun and sand. The landmark pavilion and promenade was made in a “Beaux Arts” style. The park’s 1.1-mile crescent-shaped beach provides the perfect sunrise viewing location.

8 am: Eat Breakfast at  Jimmy’s Grand Café

Have breakfast with a Bronx Latino twist at Jimmy’s Grand Café. Their brunch menu offers Coquito (coconut) French Toast, Dominican Breakfast, and other breakfast favorites with a complimentary Mimosa, Bellini, or Sangria. Eat well—you will need the energy to fuel up for a fun-filled day exploring The Bronx.

10 am: Visit the  Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum

Credit: Richard Warren

Head back to Pelham Bay Park and visit this Greek Revival mansion to learn about the history of The Bronx and the park itself. Physician Thomas Pell purchased about 50,000 acres of what is now Pelham Bay Park from the native Lenape people, land that now makes up parts of Pelham Bay Park and lower Westchester County. It is the only surviving estate in the Pelham Bay community and has been designated as both a New York City and National Landmark, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Admission is $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors 65+.

11:30 am: Horseback riding at City Island Stable

Credit: @allbronxeverything on Instagram

That’s right, Pelham Bay Park is large enough for a beach, an island neighborhood, a multi-acre mansion, multiple picnic areas, bike paths, fishing docks, dense woods, and a horse ranch with trails! The center is open year-round, but if you are visiting in the fall, you can enjoy the beautiful fall foliage in Pelham Bay Park during a nice horseback ride before lunch. Trail rides are $70, pony rides are $10, horse rides are $15.

1 pm: Have lunch at  Sea Shore Restaurant

While in Pelham Bay Park, head to City Island , another Bronx hidden gem. This quaint, suburb-like island at the edge of the borough is more fishing village than urban neighborhood. Filled with old Victorian homes and seafood restaurants, it is the perfect location for lunch on a sunny afternoon. Sea Shore Restaurant is one of dozens of places to eat with some of the best seafood dishes in New York City. Seating choices include a covered patio or completely open-air dock seating with umbrellas for shade.

3 pm: Visit the  Bronx Zoo or head to  New York Botanical Garden

A lion roaring at the Bronx Zoo in NYC

Whether you are traveling with children or simply love animals, a trip to the Bronx Zoo is a must! At more than 265 acres, this is one of the largest zoos in the country. To maximize your time here, go to the Southern Boulevard entrance and take the Zoo Shuttle, stopping at Tiger Mountain and ending at Wild Asia, with commentary about the animals and exhibits along the way. In Wild Asia, take a ride on the monorail, with a safari experience where you will see red pandas, tigers, elephants, rhinos, and more. If you visit in October, Boo at the Zoo is an entertaining Halloween-themed experience for kids, with a costume MASKarade, extinct animal graveyard, pumpkin carving demos, and the popular candy trail. If you visit in the winter, you can check out Holiday Lights during evenings from November to January; The park comes to life with holiday cheer as immersive light displays, custom-designed animal lanterns and animated light shows sparkle across the zoo. Admission is currently Flex Pricing , $37.95/adults, $33.25/seniors, $28.75/children. Advance tickets required.

Looking for more of a Zen outdoor experience? Try the New York Botanical Garden . This 250-acre garden is the largest in any city in the United States and is a National Historic Landmark. With 50 specialty gardens and collections that include more than one million plants, trees, greenhouses, and special exhibits, there is a lot of ground to cover in a few hours. The seasonal walk, open year-round, includes the Native Plant Garden, with more than 30,000 trees—many of which come alive with color during fall foliage season—and the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, a gorgeous Victorian-style glasshouse. Admission is $35/adults, $31/students and seniors 65+, $15/children 2-12. Tickets can be purchased at the garden or reserved in advance online.

6 pm: Walk around Bronx Little Italy

Credit: @foodtalkny on Instagram

A visit to the Bronx must include a visit to the Belmont area, home to the “Bronx Little Italy” and Arthur Avenue. Celebrities from this area including actor Chazz Palminteri and Dion DiMucci of Dion and the Belmonts fame—named after Belmont Avenue. Joe Pesci once worked as the maitre d’ at a local restaurant where he was discovered by Robert DeNiro. A walk around the neighborhood will bring you to artisanal food shops and unique specialty stores with authentic local and imported items. Of course, if you are visiting a neighborhood called Bronx Little Italy, you must stop by an Italian bakery! Try Artuso Pastry Shop  (pictured), a staple of the neighborhood since 1946. Be sure to get cannoli, tiramisu, and seasonal specialties such as Struffoli (honey balls) and homemade Italian Ices. Buy some dessert to go and enjoy it later at your hotel.

7:30 pm : Eat dinner at Enzo’s of Arthur Avenue

With dozens of fine restaurants along Belmont and Arthur Avenues, it’s hard to choose just one, but Enzo’s of Arthur Avenue is a standout. The founder of the restaurant, Enzo Di Rende, was a graduate of New York’s Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, which is one of the reasons Enzo’s is listed in the famous culinary Michelin Guide. Any dish here will be amazing, but Enzo’s is especially known for the fried meatballs appetizer, made from veal purchased from a local butcher on Arthur Avenue. Served with spicy onions, these are some of the best meatballs you will ever eat.

8:30 am : Stock up on a New York specialty at Empire Bagels

Check out of your hotel and head to Empire Bagels for fresh-baked bagels and muffins. There’s no seating, so order a bagel to go—or a dozen to bring home and share with family and friends.

9:30 am : Snap a pic at Yankee Stadium

Exterior of Yankee Stadium

Yankee Stadium , usually busy in October as the home team is known for its frequent World Series appearances, is open. Catch a game from March-September or take photos in front of the stadium, at Babe Ruth Plaza, and at Heritage Field across the street—site of the original House That Ruth Built. Another popular Bronx location for photos and selfies is 1520 Sedgwick Ave., where in 1973 a young man, who would later become known as DJ Kool Herc, mixed together beats on two different record players at a party, inventing hip-hop . The building, its prominent address displayed out front, still stands and is one of the stops on Hush Hip Hop Tour ’s the Birthplace of Hip Hop bus tour.

11 am : Experience history at  Van Cortlandt House Museum

Credit: Julienne Schaer

Plantations did not only exist in the South. Believe it or not, there is one right here in The Bronx. The Van Cortlandt House Museum is an important historical institution to help further our understanding of enslaved people. During the Revolutionary War, the House and plantation were used by both General George Washington and British and Hessian officers, as it was considered neutral ground. Washington later stayed there before heading to New York City for the surrender of British troops after the war. Admission is $5/adults, $3/students and seniors, free for children, and free for all visitors during June.

12:30 pm : Have brunch at Bronx Alehouse

Credit: Courtesy of Bronx Alehouse

Not too far from Van Cortlandt Park is a local fave, Bronx Alehouse. They have a rotating beer menu that includes local breweries such as Kings County Brewers Collective and Wild East Brewing Co. both in Brooklyn, along with Hudson Valley Brewery and Industrial Arts Brewing from north of the city. The food menu features brewpub favorites that are great at any time of day. For brunch, burgers go perfectly with beer, so we recommend the Alehouse's breakfast burger—topped with cheddar, bacon, and egg—which is delish!

2 pm : Get cultured at  Bronx Museum of the Arts

What to Do in the Bronx, According to Locals

Image may contain Road Freeway Building City Town Metropolis Urban Bridge and Overpass

Bronx locals will tell you that their borough is many things: the birthplace of hip-hop, a living gallery of street art , a global food crawl of family-run restaurants, a destination for world-class attractions including the New York Botanical Garden , the Bronx Museum of the Arts, and the Bronx Zoo .

But recently, as the South Bronx has appeared in the press as an emerging neighborhood, few of these attributes have been mentioned—instead, the write-ups have largely heralded new development projects and controversial retail-and-dining complexes that have sparked backlash from residents about the neighborhood’s gentrification.

With this in mind, we talked to four South Bronx advocates with deep neighborhood roots and cultural connections, to find out, in their own words, what they want us to see when we visit their home—whether we’re traveling from another part of New York City or another part of the world.

Ed García Conde started blogging as a hobby eight years ago, and today, his writing career has grown into a full-time job: His Welcome2TheBronx blog is a respected resource for Bronx community news and opinions.

Feel like you’re eating homemade food from a friend’s kitchen at Xochimilco Family Restaurant . When you sit down to eat, you put yourself in the hands of Rafael and Susana Mata and their family, who manage everything from cooking to deliveries. “They have vegan tacos with pumpkin flower blossoms and mushrooms," says Conde. "There's traditional horchata , and they have the agua de jamaica , or hibiscus flower tea, which is cold-brewed and sweetened. Try the mole!”

Dive into Italian food at Yolanda’s , which has been owned by the same family for three generations. “A lot of people don’t think you can get Italian food in the South Bronx,” says Conde, who references farther-north Arthur Avenue as the better-known destination for Italian cuisine. “But you can: Yolanda’s has been around for almost 60 years.” How did this Italian restaurant come to have such a non-Italian name? The story goes that, back in 1960, the original sign-makers misspelled the name of family matriarch Mrs. Calisi—and ended up with Yolanda’s instead of Iolanda’s.

La Morada, which has been open since 2009, is a hub for community activists.

Taste West Africa in the Bronx at Baté Nabaya , which Guinea native Aissata Kaba opened in 2008. Though the menu is known to be more of a guideline than a list of exact offerings, Conde suggests the grilled fish and rice. “They have a coconut soup with rice that’s also really delicious. You can just walk around the South Bronx and run into these different kinds of restaurants.”

Get to know some of the borough's up-and-coming artists, especially those from underrepresented groups, at Longwood Gallery of the Arts . “They put on several exhibitions throughout the year. It’s all contemporary art and a lot of artists from the Bronx. Last year they had an amazing LGBT exhibition. It’s a great space to check out," says Conde.

Celebrate Puerto Rican and Latino culture in the Bronx and beyond with a play at Pregones . “This is an amazing theater with the mission to keep the Puerto Rican culture alive through plays,” says Conde. Today, the organization—which also has a venue in the heart of Broadway—offers a robust mix of theater, dance, music, and other performance arts, as well as training and education programs. Productions are offered in both English and Spanish.

Nilka Martell is a community activist who began her work with an effort to beautify her own block—the same one where she grew up and still lives. Her initial project grew into Loving the Bronx , an organization that promotes civic engagement, park and river clean-ups, advocacy, and tours. Martell sits on several green-focused boards, including the Bronx River Alliance and the Bronx Council for Environmental Quality.

Savor the flavors of real Oaxacan food, made from scratch by a Oaxacan family at La Morada . In March of 2017, La Morada sous chef Carolina Saavedra competed on Chopped , but that’s not the only claim to fame for this South Bronx staple, run by her family since 2009. “The gentleman there [founder Antonio Saavedra] is an immigrant from Mexico, and he’s a community activist on a whole other level. It’s not like you’re just going to eat," says Martell. "You’re going and getting this whole course on immigration and the immigration experience.”

Revel in natural beauty where you’d least expect it—by paddling out onto the Bronx River . “I tell people we’re more than the home of the Yankees, the Bronx Zoo, and the New York Botanical Garden," says Martell. "We’re also the home to New York City’s only freshwater river.” Thanks to the Bronx River Alliance , there are many opportunities for visitors to get out on the water, from free canoeing, short paddling trips, and the annual Bronx River Flotilla, a five-mile paddling excursion and celebration of the revitalization of this once-polluted waterway.

Sam Goodman is an urban planner for the Bronx Borough President’s office. He grew up on the Grand Concourse and likes to say that he’s had a relative on the famous boulevard since 1927. He occasionally leads walking tours of the Concourse for the Bronx Museum of the Arts, the Municipal Art Society, and the Art Deco Society of New York.

Visit the largest park in New York City, Pelham Bay Park , which comprises 2,772 acres. “You could fit three Central Parks in Pelham Bay Park," says Goodman, who also loves Van Cortlandt and Seton Falls parks for their untouched beauty, as compared to the landscaped Central Park. “[In Seton Falls,] you feel like you’re in some primeval forest. There are these little dirt paths and a natural stream, and it’s altogether isolated from everything. When you’re inside, you don’t see any sign of urban life, yet when you come out, there’s the city."

Stroll down the Grand Concourse, once known as the Boulevard of Dreams. Originally modeled after Paris's Champs-Élysées when it was conceived in the 1890s, the Bronx’s main thoroughfare is lined with a notable collection of Art Deco buildings. “The Grand Concourse was historically the best address in the Bronx, and one of the best in New York City for about 50 years," says Goodman. "Most of the apartments that line it are a reflection of what it was."

Start your DIY art tour at the Bronx Museum of the Arts and then hit the neighborhood’s many galleries.

Walk through the halls of a landmarked mansion with a very strange history, the Andrew Freedman Home . “Commissioned in the early 20th century to resemble an Italian palace, guests could live there for free, forever, and be treated to all amenities on one very odd condition,” says Goodman. "You had to prove you were at one time a millionaire who was now destitute. It lasted from 1922 to approximately 1970, and then the endowment Freedman had left expired.” Today, the landmarked mansion serves as a community arts hub, and there's even a bed and breakfast.

Juanita Lanzo is the director and curator of the Longwood Arts Gallery, the visual arts program of the Bronx Council on the Arts. She’s long been involved in the Bronx’s art community, mentoring emerging artists and curators in her current position, and previously working in visitor services at the Bronx Museum of the Arts.

Engage in a conversation about art and culture at BronxArtSpace . “I love that it’s run by women, I like the energy that they put out, and there are quality exhibitions with emerging artists," says Lanzo. Past exhibitions have focused on themes ranging from immigration to the pseudo-reality created by 3-D software. Coming up? A retrospective of works by Bronx-based street-art icons Tats Cru .

Pelham Bay Park, which is the largest public park in New York City.

See how photography can build community at Bronx Documentary Center . “The Bronx Documentary Center is very focused on journalism and photojournalism, with a social-justice approach rather than for art's sake,” says Lanzo. A recent exhibition surveyed the evolution and importance of eyewitness accounts using technology like Facebook Live. Beyond the gallery, BDC holds frequent workshops, screenings and talks, a teen mentoring program, and an annual conference on gentrification.

Sample street art by veterans and newcomers at WallWorks gallery . Bronx-born graffiti pioneer John "Crash" Matos made his name painting trains in the 70s. In the 80s, he started to bring street art to the mainstream world when he curated the exhibition "Graffiti Art Success for America" at the South Bronx’s Fashion Moda studio, and later participated in shows alongside artists Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Today he runs the WallWorks gallery, which spotlights graffiti as well as other types of contemporary art from established and emerging creators. “They have amazing exhibitions,” says Lanzo. “I think when people can see themselves in art that is created by people like them, they can also relate to that.”

Colorful olives for sale in Bronx's Little Italy

When you think of New York City's Little Italy, you're probably thinking of the one in lower Manhattan. But the city is home to a second Little Italy that has far fewer tourists, and just as excellent (if not better and more authentic) Italian restaurants and markets.

Located in the Belmont section of the Bronx, Little Italy here centers around Arthur Avenue. A short stroll down this bustling thoroughfare will reveal dozens of delectable restaurants serving everything from brick-oven pizza and homemade, bubbly lasagna to shops selling imported cheeses, antipasto, and dried pastas.

The historic neighborhood dates back more than a century. It was, and still is, a haven for Italian immigrants and today is one of the best places to visit in New York City for a glimpse of its multicultural colors.

Today the cemetery is the final resting place for more than 310,000 souls. It's a non-sectarian cemetery and was envisioned as a place for the "famous and powerful," according to the National Historic Landmark plaque.

While visiting the cemetery, guests can also explore the arboretum, which has more than 140 varieties of trees.

This year-round public parkland has manicured lawns and gardens, lily ponds, and benches at scenic overlooks. Wave Hill also offers guided walks, yoga classes, art workshops, exhibitions tied to nature, environmental programs, and concerts.

Getting Around The Bronx

Like much of New York City, most of The Bronx is walkable — and bikeable. Actually, Citi Bike stations are all over NYC, including The Bronx, and offer a budget-friendly way to get around in an eco-friendly way that also allows you to see the sights.

In terms of public transportation, the best way to get around The Bronx is via subway, which gets you anywhere you may need to go for just $2.75 — no need to wait in traffic.

Additionally, The Bronx (and the rest of NYC) is connected via other public transportation options like buses and even ferries. While buses are operated by the MTA, just like the subway, you’ll want to download the NYC Ferry app to see schedules and buy tickets for the ferry.

Prefer a private car service? Uber and Lyft are plentiful in The Bronx, though do note that cabs tend to be much cheaper. You can hail a cab on the a main street, which is the cheapest option, or use an app like Arro or Curb to order one.

Driving? It’s much easier to find parking in The Bronx than it is in Manhattan, though you can always use the SpotHero website and app to snag super discounted parking spots. This is especially recommended if you end up driving into Manhattan, where finding parking is a nightmare.

Prefer self-contained stays?

You can also use the map below to search for local stays. It’s set to Mott Haven, but you can easily change the location to your specific destination. Note that Mott Haven does have a high crime rate; however, it’s also very close to Manhattan, easily accessible the Bronx attractions like Yankee Stadium, and is home to great restaurants and hotels itself.

If you’d like something with a lower crime rate, Bronx neighborhoods like Country Club, Kingsbridge, Morris Park, Riverdale, and Woodlawn may be a better fit.

The Bronx Travel Insurance

When visiting The Bronx — or anywhere else in the world — make sure to get travel insurance to protect your health and safety.

In my opinion, the best travel medical insurance for travelers is SafetyWing as they’ve got a large network and offer both short-term and long-term coverage — including coverage if you’re traveling for months as well as limited coverage in your home country).

Additionally, SafetyWing is budget-friendly and offers $250,000 worth of coverage with just one low overall deductible of $250.

With coverage, you’ll have peace of mind as you embark on your Bronx travel itinerary.

The Bronx sometimes gets a bad rap for safety, especially due to negative connotations from its past, but overall this borough is very safe to visit.

It’s important to use common sense, but you should not have any issues when visiting The Bronx, especially in areas near tourist attractions.

Of course, like with any city, you would not want to wander around unfamiliar streets in The Bronx alone late at night. Also, check with your hotel for advice on places to avoid, especially after dark.

Q: What is The Bronx best known for?

The Bronx is best known for being home to Yankee Stadium, where the New York Yankees play.

This borough is also home to the Bronx Zoo and the New York Botanical Garden, which are two attractions popular with tourists and locals alike.

Additionally, The Bronx is known for being a diverse borough. In fact, according to The Census Bureau, it is the most diverse area in the country, with nearly one-third of residents born in a foreign country, and immigrants from all around the world living in the borough.

Q: What are some important Bronx travel tips to keep in mind?

If you’re going to a baseball game at Yankee Stadium, stay hydrated and wear lots of sunscreen! This also goes for other outdoor activities in The Bronx, like visiting the Bronx Zoo or one of the beaches.

Another Bronx travel tip is to plan your journey using the subway. The 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, B, and D subway lines all serve The Bronx, and it’s the easiest and most affordable way to get around.

Q: What are some top places to go in The Bronx?

If you are wondering what to do in The Bronx, you can’t go wrong with classic tourist activities like visiting the Bronx Zoo or strolling through the New York Botanical Garden. These attractions are just a few of the many reasons New York City is so popular.

Beyond that, The Bronx is home to some fantastic museums. The Bronx Museum of the Arts is a must-visit for art lovers who have already checked off the Met and the MoMA. The Van Cortlandt House Museum houses an interesting collection in an 18th-century mansion.

And if you’re interested in literary history, the Edgar Allan Poe Cottage is a great place to check out in The Bronx.

Q: What are the top things to do in The Bronx?

One of the top things to do in The Bronx is catching a baseball game at Yankee Stadium.

If you’re looking for great food in The Bronx, you can’t miss Arthur Avenue.

This street in the Belmont neighborhood of The Bronx is home to the most authentic “Little Italy” in New York City. You’ll have no shortage of options for mouth-watering, made-from-scratch Italian food instead.

Q: How far is The Bronx from New York City?

The Bronx is actually located within New York City! It’s one of NYC’s five boroughs along with Manhattan , Queens , Brooklyn , and Staten Island .

Q: How long is the subway ride from The Bronx to Manhattan?

The Bronx and Manhattan are right next to each other, so it depends on where you need to go. For instance, if you’re going from the bottom of the South Bronx to top of East Harlem (in Manhattan), which are connected via a walking bridge, it would be less than 10 minutes on foot.

On the other hand, if you’re traveling from Van Cortlandt Park in the northern Bronx to The Battery (formerly known as Battery Park) on the southern tip of Manhattan, it would take about 55 minutes via subway or 45 minutes via car.

Q: How much spending money do you need for a week in New York City?

The average traveler spends about $240 per day in New York City on accommodations, transportation, food, activities, and other travel expenses.

That being said, there are certainly ways to save money in the city — like staying in hostels, considering Couchsurfing, cooking your own meals, sticking to public transportation, and enjoying some budget-friendly NYC activities .

Q: How long can a tourist stay in New York?

Most visitors from abroad who are allowed to enter the United States — the country New York State is located in — can stay for up to six months. Entry requirements and allowances vary depending on where you are from, so definitely check the US government website .

Q: Do I need a travel visa for New York?

Visa requirements vary depending on where you are from. You can visit the US government website to see if you need a visa and what type.

Q: Where is The Bronx?

The Bronx is the northernmost of the five boroughs of New York City , which is located in the southeastern part of New York, a state located in the United States .

The Bronx is separated from Manhattan by the Harlem River and is the only NYC borough located on the US mainland.

Q: Are credit cards accepted in The Bronx?

Credit cards — particularly Visa and Mastercard — are widely accepted in The Bronx, though it is always wise to carry some cash for street stalls and in case of emergency.

Q: Can you drink the tap water in The Bronx?

Yes, the tap water is safe to drink in The Bronx.

Q: What is the local currency in New York State?

Visit Bronx

The Bronx is one of New York’s most beautiful boroughs, with a rather tough reputation, but full of history and nature. Mostly rural until the turn of the late 1800s, it was once where Manhattan’s elite had their country homes. Look for some of these buildings still visible amid construction. Today, come for baseball games at Yankee Stadium or celebrate a slightly macabre literary heritage at the Edgar Allan Poe Cottage.

Bronx’s rural past translates into pockets of beautiful nature. Bring a swimsuit to lounge at Orchard Beach or binoculars to spot migratory birds flying above Pelham Bay. Walk along the paths of Van Cortlandt Park or view the natural world in full bloom in the greenhouses and grounds of the New York Botanical Gardens. Nearby, lions roar and bear cubs tumble at the Bronx Zoo. See celebrities’ final resting places and enjoy the quiet in Woodlawn Cemetery.

After exercise and fresh air, head to iconic Little Italy for the culinary delights of the Arthur Ave. Retail Market. Attend public lectures or just soak up the youthful campus atmosphere at Fordham University. Learn about the borough’s artistic heritage at the Bronx Museum of Art, a celebration of everything that makes the Bronx iconic.

The Bronx is located north of Manhattan, across the Harlem River. Several MTA lines run into the borough, though they do not extend throughout the neighborhood. A robust system of buses provides connections between subway lines and covers areas that have no subway at all. Most of the most famous destinations in the Bronx are easily accessible by public transportation, but getting around by car here is easier than in the rest of the city.

The borough is safer than its reputation implies, but use caution when walking around late at night.

Watch the sunset in the Bronx while enjoying seafood and drinks on the patios of City Island, the perfect place to see the sky turn pink behind the Manhattan skyline.

Information about General Data Protection Regulation

We may be collecting and using information from you if you are from the European Economic Area (EEA), and in this section of our Privacy Policy we are going to explain exactly how and why is this data collected, and how we maintain this data under protection from being replicated or used in the wrong way.

What is GDPR?

GDPR is an EU-wide privacy and data protection law that regulates how EU residents' data is protected by companies and enhances the control the EU residents have, over their personal data.

The GDPR is relevant to any globally operating company and not just the EU-based businesses and EU residents. Our customers’ data is important irrespective of where they are located, which is why we have implemented GDPR controls as our baseline standard for all our operations worldwide.

What is personal data?

Any data that relates to an identifiable or identified individual. GDPR covers a broad spectrum of information that could be used on its own, or in combination with other pieces of information, to identify a person. Personal data extends beyond a person’s name or email address. Some examples include financial information, political opinions, genetic data, biometric data, IP addresses, physical address, sexual orientation, and ethnicity.

The Data Protection Principles include requirements such as:

  • ● Personal data collected must be processed in a fair, legal, and transparent way and should only be used in a way that a person would reasonably expect.
  • ● Personal data should only be collected to fulfil a specific purpose and it should only be used for that purpose.
  • Organizations must specify why they need the personal data when they collect it.
  • ● Personal data should be held no longer than necessary to fulfil its purpose.
  • ● People covered by the GDPR have the right to access their own personal data. They can also request a copy of their data,
  • and that their data be updated, deleted, restricted, or moved to another organization.
  • Why is GDPR important?
  • GDPR adds some new requirements regarding how companies should protect individuals' personal data that they collect and process. It also raises the stakes for compliance by increasing enforcement and imposing greater fines for breach. Beyond these facts it's simply the right thing to do. At TripCorner.com we strongly believe that your data privacy is very important and we already have solid security and privacy practices in place that go beyond the requirements of this new regulation.
  • Individual Data Subject's Rights - Data Access, Portability and Deletion
  • We are committed to helping our customers meet the data subject rights requirements of GDPR. TripCorner.com processes or stores all personal data in fully vetted, DPA compliant vendors. We do store all conversation and personal data for up to 6 years unless your account is deleted. In which case, we dispose of all data in accordance with our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, but we will not hold it longer than 60 days.

We are aware that if you are working with EU customers, you need to be able to provide them with the ability to access, update, retrieve and remove personal data. We got you! We've been set up as self service from the start and have always given you access to your data and your customers data. Our customer support team is here for you to answer any questions you might have about working with the API.
