Types of Private Cruise Charters

  • Corporate Charters : Companies charter ships for corporate events like meetings, conventions, product launches, and anniversaries. This allows businesses to provide a grand gesture of appreciation.
  • Affinity/Promotional Charters : Organizations charter cruises to re-sell cabins to niche interest groups. This curates exclusive, premium experiences like themed or concert cruises.

Ways to Charter a Cruise Ship

There are a few different types of cruise ship charters:

Full Ship Charter

Booking an entire cruise ship allows for ultimate customization and luxury. With complete control, you can create truly one-of-a-kind experiences tailored to your group. Full buyouts offer unmatched exclusivity and service for planning over-the-top events, celebrations, or corporate functions.

Remember that most full charters on major cruise lines cost millions, given the large ship capacities and amenities. They are best suited for large organizations or well-financed entrepreneurs seeking an exclusive, customizable cruise.

Full Ship Charter Highlights:

  • Complete control and customization
  • Ultimate exclusivity
  • Luxury amenities and service
  • Ideal for large groups and budgets

Partial Ship Charter

Partial charters, also known as half-ship charters or “contract groups,” offer the flexibility to reserve a large block of staterooms without buying out the entire ship. Typically 30-50% of the ship’s capacity is booked to secure preferential rates, amenities, and some exclusive access.

While you don’t control the whole vessel, partial charters provide customizable perks for your guests. You’ll be able to secure private spaces within the ship for meetings, concerts, and other events, away from the ship’s other non-participating guests.

The main advantage of partial charters is flexibility – you can release unused room allotments without penalty as the sailing date approaches. However, cruise lines often impose minimum spending requirements, so read the fine print carefully.

Partial charters provide an excellent middle ground for medium to large groups seeking an exclusive experience with more customization than a group booking but without the price tag of a full buyout.

Partial Ship Charter Highlights:

  • Reserve block of rooms (typically 30%-50%)
  • Some exclusive spaces
  • More flexible booking
  • Cost-effective compared to full ship charters

Group Cruises

Group bookings are a great option for smaller groups seeking an intimate, bonded cruise experience without full ship customization. Groups are booked as regular passengers on pre-planned itineraries.

In general, scoring a group rate requires booking 16+ passengers across 8+ cabins on the same existing cruise itinerary. The ship’s dining, entertainment, and port excursions are already determined.

Ideal for family reunions, church groups, hobbyist clubs, corporate departments, and more, group cruises provide hassle-free travel with everything figured out for you. Enjoy quality time bonding with loved ones, colleagues, or friends with a shared interest.

Group Cruise Highlights:

  • Pre-set itinerary (not customizable)
  • Intimate group experience
  • Most affordable chartering option

Costs & Pricing to Charter a Cruise Ship

Chartering a private cruise ship is a major investment, with full ship rentals starting at over $1 million for a week-long sailing. Costs vary significantly based on factors like:

  • Ship size and class : Larger, more luxurious ships come at a higher premium. For example, mega-ships can run $5-12+ million. Midsize contemporary vessels start around $1.5-3 million.
  • Duration : Short 3-5 night voyages are more affordable than extended 7+ night trips. A 7-night charter may cost 70-100% more than a 4-night charter.
  • Occupancy : Fees are typically based on double occupancy per stateroom. More guests mean higher service costs.
  • Destinations and dates : Popular summer trips in hotspots like the Mediterranean or Caribbean fetch premium pricing compared to off-season sailings.
  • Custom requests : Specialty dining, entertainment, tours, décor, and more can ratchet up the price.

To give rough estimates, here are sample full ship charter prices:

  • 4-night Caribbean cruise on a midsize ship: $1.5 – $3 million
  • 7-night European cruise on a large ship: $3 – $8 million
  • 7-night Caribbean cruise on a mega ship: $5 – $12 million

As an example, here’s how Royal Caribbean breaks down its full ship charter fees:

Partial charters cost several hundred thousand dollars to a few million depending on the ship, date, and portion reserved . Group cruises can run $100k-$300k based on group size and needs.

Cruise Charter Payment Terms

When chartering a cruise ship, payment terms can vary. However, to give you an idea, we’ll use Royal Caribbean’s transparent terms as a representative example. It’s worth noting that while other cruise lines might have similar structures, there can be slight variations.

Option 1: Staggered Payments with Letter of Credit

  • 10% deposit at contract signing
  • 30% of fees due seven months, five months, and three months prior to sailing
  • Letter of credit required through 60 days post-sailing

Option 2: Payment in Full at Contract Signing

  • 100% of fees paid upfront at contract signing
  • Payment is non-refundable
  • No letter of credit required

The remaining taxes, gratuities, and customs fees are due 30 days pre-departure under either plan. Remember that minimum spending requirements are standard, so check the fine print.

A travel partner like The Vacationeer can handle all payments on your behalf and help determine the best payment schedule for your event. Their relationships with cruise lines can also help secure optimal pricing and terms.

Best Cruise Lines for Chartering a Ship

When selecting a cruise line for your private charter, the top players to consider are Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Carnival Cruise Line.

  • Royal Caribbean stands out for its innovative mega-ships with splashy amenities like surf simulators, skydiving wind tunnels, ice skating rinks, and more. The amplified Oasis Class ships offer ultimate customization flexibility with their resort-style layouts. For more intimate charters, the Radiance Class vessels provide midsize options.
  • Norwegian Cruise Line shines for its lively, flexible Freestyle Cruising model with no set dining times across dozens of restaurants. Norwegian ships also offer high-energy nightlife and entertainment like Broadway shows. Their vast fleet ranges from boutique Jewel Class to the massive Breakaway Plus Class.
  • Carnival Cruise Line is ideal for price-conscious groups seeking a casual, family-friendly experience. As the largest cruise operator, they have a vast fleet with contemporary fun ships suited to any charter size. While not luxury, Carnival’s charter value is unbeatable.

To find the best cruise line partner, first consider your group’s demographics, interests, and budget. Ask questions like:

  • What style of cruise do we want – sophisticated, action-packed, or laid-back?
  • What amenities and activities are must-haves?
  • What level of service and inclusions are we expecting?
  • How many guests will we have, and what ship sizes work?
  • Are there any limitations on our budget?

With the right cruise line match, you’re on your way to smooth sailing on the chartered getaway of your dreams!

Q & A: How to Charter a Cruise Ship

How early should i plan a private charter.

Ideally, begin planning a full ship charter at least 12-18 months in advance to allow time for logistics, promotion, and best availability. Partial charters may require 12 months, but sometimes less.

Can I choose the cruise destinations and itinerary?

Absolutely, you can typically select desired destinations and build a customized itinerary, subject to the ship’s capabilities and any restrictions. The cruise line or travel agency can advise on the optimal itinerary. Partial charters and contact group charters have less flexibility since they are not full ship charters, and there will be other passengers aboard.

Are there usually cancellation penalties for private charters?

Yes, cancellation penalties for private charters are typical and can be significant. However, in certain contract group charters, unused room allocations might be releasable without penalties as the sailing date nears, and additional rooms can sometimes be added (if needed). Always thoroughly review cancellation policies and associated fees before finalizing any charter agreement.

How can a travel agency assist with a private cruise charter?

Agencies can help with financial arrangements, negotiations, logistics, staffing, customization, and insider knowledge of ships, deals, and revenue guarantees. An experienced travel agency like The Vacationeer is invaluable.

What kind of onboard equipment and amenities are included?

Many ships offer state-of-the-art AV equipment, conference spaces, entertainment systems, etc. If certain items aren’t available, the cruise line or travel agency may be able to arrange specialized rentals.

Does pricing for private charters differ significantly?

Yes, pricing varies based on factors like cruise line, ship size/age, amenities, and more. Luxury ships may cost more but offer intimate, high-end experiences. Mass-market ships provide more capacity for potentially lower per-person rates.

What is included with chartering a private cruise ship?

Inclusions can vary by cruise line, but most charters include meeting spaces, dining, activities, entertainment, standard beverages, and more. As the charterer, you can often fully customize offerings to align with your event theme and brand. The cruise line or charter agency handles the arrangements, allowing you to focus on planning a phenomenal event.

What are some key questions to ask about customizing the experience?

Ask about décor rules, brand integration opportunities, entertainment options, specialty menus, securing rental equipment, and any legal/liquor restrictions based on your itinerary.

Are there tips for maximizing value when chartering?

Opt for off-peak dates, scale guest count to ship size, avoid over-customizing, and work with an agency to find deals. Release unused cabin allotments if possible.

Does Disney Cruise Line offer private charters?

Full ship charters with Disney Cruise Line are extremely rare. Disney seems to prefer keeping their ships open to the general public rather than doing private takeovers.

In their 25+ year history, Disney has only done a handful of full charters for select groups such as Disney Vacation Club members or media partners (TCM, for example).

The cost to fully charter a Disney ship is speculated to be several million dollars , likely putting it out of reach for most. Booking Disney group cruises or partial charters may be a better option for groups to enjoy a touch of Disney magic.

  • How Much Does it Really Cost to Rent a Cruise Ship?

How much does it really cost to rent a cruise ship?

Are you looking for an exciting, unforgettable experience for your organization’s next corporate retreat, offsite meeting, or annual event? Renting a cruise ship and sailing away to the world’s best destinations may be just the ticket.

On board the ship, nearly every aspect of the experience is customizable, with limitless branding possibilities to grab attention and drive business goals. Out-of-the-ordinary meeting venues and extraordinary event spaces ensure your guests are always engaged. Exhilarating entertainment, 24-hour room service, world-class dining venues, spa services, and boutique shopping sprees promise endless ways for guests to relax and enjoy themselves between functions.

A private cruise offers companies and organizations myriad options for tailoring sailing itineraries around the globe, giving your guests an experience of a lifetime.

What does it mean to charter a cruise ship?

Chartering a cruise ship, in a word, means exclusivity. Your company, group, or organization buys the exclusive use of the ship, its staterooms, services, and onboard amenities for the itinerary you choose.

Booking a private cruise with Celebrity Cruises means you’ll enjoy the complete attention of the crew. You’ll have an onboard cruise coordinator at your disposal to assist you and make sure every detail of your private cruise is addressed seamlessly, resulting in the most memorable cruise experience for you and your guests.

Full-Ship Charter

A full-ship charter is perfect for a large group meeting venue, incentive reward, corporate retreat , trade show, fundraiser, product launch, or themed event for your organization.

In a full-ship charter, your company or organization agrees to purchase all staterooms (double occupancy) and pay taxes and associated fees for a given ship and itinerary in order to have the ship, its crew, and amenities, as determined by a charter contract, at your disposal for the duration of the cruise and the pleasure of your guests.

Full charters are generally booked for itineraries that Celebrity normally sails, like 5-day Caribbean cruises or 10-night Spain, France, and Italy cruises.

To create the most successful events for employees, team members, business partners, and other guests, you can arrange fitness classes, spa treatments, and activities such as theater performances, movies under the stars, and tastings. Of course, you have access to all of the ship’s rooms, suites, and corporate event venues for meetings, exhibitions, and entertainment.

With a full-ship charter, you’ll have a dedicated onboard event coordinator and account executive to assist with details, no matter how small. The ship’s crew is at your disposal to assist in planning and executing memorable meetings and events to motivate your team, celebrate their successes, and build excitement for what’s ahead.

Partial-Ship Charter

A second option for chartering or renting a cruise ship is a partial charter. Your company or group purchases a large number of staterooms, often within a particular stateroom class, along with meeting spaces for private events aboard a ship with an itinerary that is open to the public.

This type of charter is excellent for group incentive rewards, meetings, and special celebrations. It can be customized in many ways, including special events on board and customized events on shore.

How much does it cost to rent a cruise ship?

The cost of renting a cruise ship depends on the ship, date, and itinerary you’re considering, as well as the level of customization involved.

To ensure a cost-effective experience for your company, as well as a magnificent cruising experience for your guests, we have specific requirements and preferred experiences for booking a charter, including a history of chartering ships of similar size, either with Celebrity or another cruise line.

Payment terms include 10% of the charter rate and prepaid gratuities due at contract signing, along with an irrevocable standby letter of credit; 30% of the charter rate and prepaid gratuities due at seven, five, and three months prior to sailing; and prepaid taxes and requested amenities due three months prior to sailing.

You also have the option to pay 100% of the charter rate and prepaid gratuities at contract signing, without a letter of credit, with interest earned and applied as a shipboard credit during the charter.

When considering a full charter, you’ll want to be sure that your guest count closely matches the double-occupancy count of the ship, as the rate you’ll be charged and prepaid gratuities are based on such occupancy, no matter how many guests are sailing. Based on the final number of guests aboard, you’ll also be expected to meet an onboard-revenue target, with associated taxes and fees.

If you’re set on sailing an itinerary aboard a specific ship, but have concerns about your final guest number, be assured that Celebrity’s charter team is skilled in organizing and scheduling the flow of events on board to accommodate the group and ensure a smooth flow to all staterooms and venues.

What’s included in the private cruise ship price?

A chartered cruise ship gives your guests an impressive and luxurious venue to relax, renew, and reinvigorate for the business ahead. It is essentially yours to command for the duration of the sailing. Our crew and staff are available exclusively to lavish time and attention on your guests and make them feel special and appreciated.

The private cruise ship price includes all staterooms and suites and round-trip sea transportation to the ports of call on the itinerary. Most meals are included, as are most nonalcoholic beverages, and most entertainment aboard ship, such as regularly scheduled Broadway-quality live shows in the ship’s theater and lounge entertainment.

Imagine your guests’ delight in knowing that all the ship’s venues are available for them to enjoy, like the swimming pools, hot tubs, sundecks, spa, fitness center, library, gaming room, lounges, casino, and so much more.

Onboard items and services not included in the charter price include: air transportation and transfers to and from the ship; meeting-break or special-event set-up fees, and any technical and broadcast fees when needed; telephone calls, internet services, and photographs; and all guest spending of a personal nature, including casino gaming, specialty-restaurant charges, spa or salon services, purchases from onboard stores, and laundry or medical services.

What kind of customization is available on a chartered cruise?

You’ll want to offer your guests, members, clients, and executives the most memorable cruise experience possible, so there are a number of ways to customize a full charter.

One of the easiest and most requested ways to tailor a charter, creating an even more special sailing, is to switch out a port of call within your chosen itinerary while keeping the departure port and dates of departure and arrival the same.

It’s also possible to combine itineraries, creating a unique cruising adventure. All departing cruises from the United States must visit at least one foreign port, and each of these customized scenarios is subject to additional costs and fees, which are included in the initial charter quote.

In addition to itinerary changes, there are many opportunities to add excitement and value to your charter. Possibilities include food and beverage arrangements, such as specific menu items or courses; entertainment events, including arrangements for specific shows; even fireworks displays.

Depending on your group’s focus, you could request that specific onboard venues, such as the casino or certain bars, be closed for the duration of the cruise, with incremental fees added to the charter contract to cover lost revenue.

During port calls, continue to amaze and delight your participants with exciting and enlightening shore excursions. Our crew’s in-depth knowledge of destinations and our network of top tourism operators around the world are at your disposal. We’ll assist you in curating a perfect menu of private shore excursions tailored to your group’s interests, from exclusive journeys and destination highlights tours to Celebrity Discovery excursions that offer immersive local, cultural, and culinary adventures.

What kind of events can I host on a chartered cruise ship?

If you can imagine it, we can make it a reality when you sail on a Celebrity Cruises charter. From corporate meetings at sea and formal evenings honoring your top performers, to themed parties and outdoor concerts on the Rooftop Terrace, it’s all possible and guaranteed to create enduring memories.

Large-scale events, such as fundraisers, trade shows, and conferences, take on a whole new dimension when staged on a chartered ship with multiple dynamic venues that keep attendees engaged. A chartered cruise is also the perfect venue for hosting a themed event like a food-and-wine or music cruise open to the public for booking, or more personal events like a family reunion, wedding, or anniversary.

Can I rent a cruise ship for a private party?

A partial charter cruise is an excellent option for private parties, group incentive travel , meetings at sea, and special personal occasions.

A partial-charter group cruise offers many of the same options as a full-ship charter to create and customize a memorable sailing experience for your private party, with a stateroom-booking requirement of just eight staterooms.

Imagine the impact when your guests are invited to dine in exclusive specialty restaurants. Booking buyouts of specialty restaurants is possible and an excellent way to celebrate special occasions and events. For example, at Tuscan Grille, a party of up to 150 can dine on Italian specialties with a modern twist, including handmade pasta and dry-aged steaks. If you’re looking for a more relaxed atmosphere, you can host a casual grill party for up to 50 at the Rooftop Garden Grille.

TALK TO A CHARTER EXPERT

You’ve got questions. We’ve got answers.

Why Choose a Charter Cruise

A private boat charter has many advantages over an independently booked  small ship cruise . In addition to the many reasons to travel by small ship , a private ship charter offers your family or small group exclusivity, flexibility, privacy and savings. A full yacht charter can save 10 to 30% off regular per-person cruise rates, and you can often choose the length, route and many other details to truly make the trip your own. Just note that our private boat tours are all overnight, no day-only bookings.

How Many Passengers Do I Need?

Private cruises are perfect for families and small groups of 6 to 200+ travelers, so there really no set minimum to book a charter cruise. Our charter cruise clients have ranged from couples booking small 6-guest yachts to zoological societies, family reunions, wedding groups and alumni associations booking larger ships. Business groups and clubs have sought out luxury private cruises with us, and we’ve arranged simpler, affordable charters for families as well.

Where to Charter Cruise

As long as there is an ocean or river and an available ship, you can book a charter cruise anywhere. Our experts will work with you to determine where and when is best for your group. Sometimes we start planning with the destination. And other times, we start with a date range then select where to charter cruise.

Seeking a family charter to the Galapagos? A private Caribbean cruise? Our most popular destinations for small ship charters include Alaska; Hawaii; Baja California; Belize; the Caribbean; Costa Rica; Northern Europe’s England, Ireland and Scotland; Panama; Galapagos, Antarctica; the Amazon; Australia; Indonesia; the South Pacific and the Mediterranean. These locations have a wide variety of small ships, meaning there are lots of options for groups to choose from. In addition, the competition between operators keeps charter rates down. View the following pages for further details on our most popular charter cruise destinations and trips:

  • Alaska Yacht Charters
  • Galapagos Islands Yacht Charters
  • Mediterranean Yacht Charters

How Far in Advance to Book a Charter Boat?

Typically charter cruises are planned and contracted at least one year in advance of the departure date, but as long as space is available a charter boat can be booked at any time. Much depends on the time of year you’re seeking to travel and the destination’s popularity. Learn more about the private cruise ship selection and booking process in our How to Charter a Ship guide.

What Costs to Expect

How much is a charter boat ? Costs vary greatly depending on passenger count, destination, season, etc. But did you know that a private cruise charter costs 10-30% less than booking individual staterooms? Many travelers are surprised to learn how affordable a cruise boat rental is versus paying individual cabin rates. But also be aware that a charter boat rate remains the same, whether or not you have enough travelers to fill all the staterooms. For more details about pricing, read our detailed guide on cruise ship rental cost , with explanations and further considerations about pricing.

Private Boat Charter Deals

In addition to saving on individual cabin rates when you rent a cruise ship, look for additional promotional savings by browsing our charter deals . Many times, charter boat operators prefer to block off their ships for private groups for ease of operations and the fun of flexibility. Oftentimes if you look early, you can get the best deal on a private boat charter.

Customizing Your Charter Cruise

Cruise itineraries, on-board programs, activity levels and even food service can be customized to the interests, ability and budget of your group. Have a keen interest in bears, whales or bird watching? Want to kayak all day or just a little? Traveling with a school science class? Looking for a focus on ancient religion or indigenous cultures? Want to hone in on whiskey tasting, golf, tennis, or horse-riding? Our experts can find the right destination, the right charter boat and the right itinerary for your group.

Meet Your Captain, Crew & Guides

All our charter cruises are fully crewed charters, outfitted with an experienced and professional captain and crew. We do not offer bare-boat charters. We believe that the captain, guides, chef and crew are an integral part of expedition cruising and that their experience and expertise are essential to a safe and successful voyage.

Choosing Your Charter Boat

If you’re considering a private boat charter, we recommend starting with destination and/or ship size. If you’re flexible, looking by charter boat size is a great starting point. Pick your size from the list below to browse private cruise ship listings, filtering by destination and ship type. Perhaps you’re seeking a charter boat for family travel? Something small with a romantic cruise feel, for a few couples? A private ship for a business event? Or to rent a cruise ship for your wedding? Start your search here:

Small Yacht Charters (6-20 guests)

Small yacht charters offer an active and intimate cruise experience up close to nature, wildlife and culture. Private yacht cruises offer daily opportunities to explore away from the vessel on hikes, sea kayaking, snorkeling or zodiac excursions. If you’re looking for a private sailboat charter or a small luxury yacht, this is your starting place. Note that 6- to 20-guest yachts, riverboats, sailboats and barges vary considerably in price and amenities. You’ll find everything from rustic floating base camps with bunk beds and shared bathrooms to luxury yacht cruisers with hot tubs and elegant furnishings. Most small yachts carry kayaks for up-close exploration, and some  Belize catamaran charter  sailboats even carry jetskis.

Large Yacht Charters (21-50 guests)

Large yachts offer the intimate nature and efficient landings of the small yachts combined with all the roominess, amenities, service and luxury of the small ships. Expect more spacious cabins, bathrooms, dining rooms, lounge and deck space. Many large yachts offer spacious suites in addition to standard cabins. Cuisine is delicious and service exceptional. Large charter yacht cruises offer plenty of space for group functions or private moments on deck. The extra space aboard large yachts makes them popular for families with kids and teens, as well as some added amenities for those seeking luxury yacht charters. Some large yachts carry kayaks while others do not.

Expedition Ship Charters (50+ guests)

Expedition-size small ships are the largest vessels we offer. Ships larger than this lose the intimate experience and ability to explore away from the ship that is so crucial to a successful adventure cruise. These ships offer the most space with larger cabins, bathrooms, salons and lounges, dining rooms and more deck space. Each small ship offers a variety of cabins from standard to suite. Expect professional service with restaurant-style meals. Small ships also offer the largest staff of naturalists and guides.

Luxury Boat Charters

If you are seeking a luxury boat charter, you’ll find one in every ship size category mentioned above. Since the definition of luxury is very relative to each traveler, we recommend contacting our charter cruise specialists to discuss which luxury private cruises are best for your needs. A luxury boat charter on the Amazon River can mean a private cold plunge pool on your own cabin balcony, while small luxury yacht charters in Alaska might be less about what’s on board the charter boat and more about the exclusive experience with guides, cuisine and access to wilderness.

Great trip. Action packed. We almost needed a vacation from the vacation.

We traveled with another family so it was super fun and easy. This trip is a great way to go with 2 families. Kids and adults had a blast!

The charming boat, excellent crew, and good friends made this a joyful, memorable trip.

The Infiniti ship and crew were excellent. Suite on Infiniti was excellent. Room serviced multiple times a day. Could have used additional shampoo/conditioner/soap daily.  Would have enjoyed turn down service chocolate nightly (instead of occasionally).

Food options were excellent. Chef able to accommodate multiple vegans/vegetarians. Proteins (meat/fish) were a tad overcooked, but all meals impressive. Favorite was Italian-themed day.

Juan was passionate and enthusiastic about educating guests about all-things Galapagos. Carlos was a little more reserved, but still excellent.

[We most enjoyed]...the Galapagos Islands. [We least enjoyed]...Quito due to altitude sickness. About half of the guests off boarded mid-trip and another 11 guests on boarded. Average age of second half considerably younger. All passengers were great, no jerks.

AdventureSmith was helpful as COVID protocols changed just prior to trip.

Plan for sea sickness regardless of your past experience.

After sitting idle for 16 months from traveling outside of the US, it was awesome to finally venture out and have it be to Belize! This was a trip that was postponed from 2020 and it exceeded our expectations in experience, accommodation and activity. (We had) a desire to go on a sail boat, snorkel and dive and get out to the Caribbean. We were able to dabble in the interior for some jungle love and then on a sailing catamaran extravaganza around the cayes of Belize. We traveled with another family so it was super fun and easy. This trip is a great way to go with 2 families. Kids and adults had a blast! The mantra of the trip "Now we're doing something" couldn't have rang more true!!

Chaa Creek was beautiful and our villa was quite fancy. Large windows, spacious, a/c, our own pool and howler monkeys hanging out next to it. The catamaran "Tranquilo" was equally as nice. It fit the 8 of us plus the 2 crew just fine. Had a/c in the rooms, seemed to have plenty of storage, and the bathrooms worked fine.

Food at both the lodge and on the catamaran was wonderful. All fresh and uniquely prepared. Kainie from the boat was amazing in what she prepared and even went the extra mile and gave us a 4th of July picnic since we were there for the holiday. Just awesome.

Our group loved the ATM wet cave where you swam and splunked through big caverns and narrow passageways only to come to a part of the cave where old pottery relics and skeleton bones dated 1600 years were left behind by Mayan people. The Mayan ruin of Caracol. The fishing, snorkeling and diving of the incredible reefs of Belize. There is not much not to enjoy but I probably would not have done the tubing from Chaa Creek as it was long and slow.

I think if you have a group that would like to go to Belize spending the money on a charter boat is the way to go. So intimate, lots of flexibility and fun. The kids were taught to spear fish by our captain, sailing to the different cayes was amazing. I would have liked to have seen some more local communities but that can be for the next sailing trip. Being in the jungle and at Chaa Creek was also a great side trip to do in addition to the boat. So glad we got to experience both the jungle and sea!

Transportation was arranged via Chaa Creek and Belize Sailing Vacation. All were flawless and we were met on time with comfortable travel vehicles all equipped with a/c which was great since it was so hot and humid!

Communication about expectations and how to prepare were spot on and well needed since it had been awhile since any of us had traveled out of the country. With all the nuances added due to Covid we never felt uninformed about changes or requirements. Pretty seamless. Adventuresmith also provided us with a useful app that had all of our pertinent information, flights, etc for easy access to resources.

Adventuresmith prepared us in such a way that we always were kept abreast on any and all changes, requirements or nuances with the trip that we needed to be aware of. The app we had that held all of our information was pretty slick. Trip information and details were complete and accurate. Friendly and knowledgeable staff that were genuinely excited for us to travel.

Flights seem to change constantly so keep up with it. Make sure to do your research on what excursions you want to do and ask questions. Sometimes while you're in the country of travel you need to work a little for clarification for some of the excursions or experiences.

The nature of the boat means cabins aren't spacious, but that is part of the experience. The Catalyst is a marvelously maintained craft with handsome brass fittings, proudly maintained original engine, and rich teak accents. It's a beauty.

Every meal was a visual and gustatory feast.

It's hard to pick a favorite. The hikes and kayaking were enjoyable, presentations were outstanding, the vistas were serene, and the crew members' interactions with us were always to ensure our comfort and pleasure.

What a crew! It's hard to imagine a better one. Each crew member was highly skilled, each ensured that we were enjoying the trip and the excursions, and each seemed to interact flawlessly with the others. Captain Che Rodgers is a skilled, talented leader who ensured not only the safety of the boat and passengers but also their enjoyment. Naturalist Jesse Turner was superb. He was knowledgeable, accommodating, and delightful. The last night's slide show set to music which was put on a thumb drive for each of us along with other photos and nuggets, is a cherished treasure. Mate/engineer Dan Liden was clearly skilled, adventuresome, and fun.

Fellow Passengers Review

A friend booked the trip, and I was invited to join the group. We were all good friends in the beginning and became even closer as a result of this experience on the Catalyst.

AdventureSmith prepared us well for the trip.

Ready to Live the Cruise Ship Musician Life?

If you’re looking for an adventure, it’s the best-paid vacation you’ll ever have.

Here’s what just a few of our musicians have to say

"Working for Landau Music was a BLAST! I made memories that I will never forget. If you're wondering whether a position on board one of Landau Music's ships is for you, trust me, you'll be in great hands!"

“The last contract was even better than the first. The musicians were great, the people I worked with were fantastic, opportunities for creative expression abounded, and the itineraries were phenomenal."

"Landau Music and the cruising experience has truly changed my life forever and those who have the fortunate opportunity to audition and work with Landau Music will one day understand the enthusiasm that I cannot even express through words."

"I have worked on cruise ships for less than two years and have already seen half of the world and have had a great time doing it, meeting some great players and friends along the way. I'm glad to have found an agent who is as responsive and sympathetic to my goals as Landau Music."

"A typical day would be waking up, traveling to a beach to snorkel or go sight-seeing for 4 hours, then capping my night off doing what I love: playing music! Then wake up to do it all over again! Other musicians with other agencies told me how jealous they were of how good I had it with Landau."

"I can accurately say that Landau Music has definitely improved the quality of my life. The travel, the adventure, the money and most of all the people have improved the quality of my life more than I could have imagined. Thank you Michael and staff for all the work you've done for me and so many deserving musicians."

Is this for real?

You're not dreaming. We're placing qualified musicians on luxury cruises all around the world...right now! And when we say luxury, we're talking "floating Ritz Carlton". Picture the best room in Vegas...with the best view in the world.

And I really get paid?

Yes. You’re paid a competitive salary and you get to spend your down time in exotic locations around the world—beaches in the Caribbean, excursions in Alaska, and more…

But I have to pay to get there, right?

No. We fly you there and back—and if you’re interested, we can even make sure you’re lined up on another one before you come home.

Do I have to pay for anything?

The only thing you have to pay for is a pre-employment medical. (Oh, and maybe some fancy clothes for formal nights).

Wait… I can get off the ship?

Yes, that’s the best part. If your ship goes to Egypt, so do you. Thailand? Yep. Argentina? You got it. Aruba? For sure! When the passengers disembark, you’re welcome to do so too. Most musicians play at night, which means your days are free to explore the world.

Anchoring Down: Life on Board

Crew quarters, meals, and recreation: your home away from home.

As a cruise ship crew member, you'll find that life on board is a unique experience, with accommodations designed specifically for staff (not always so comfortable).

While crew cabins might be smaller than passenger staterooms, they are equipped with all the essentials you'll need, including a bed, storage space, and a private or shared bathroom.

Meals for crew members are usually served in a dedicated crew mess, offering a variety of cuisines to cater to diverse tastes. You'll never go hungry, and you might even discover some new favorite dishes!

In your downtime, you can take advantage of recreational facilities available for crew members, such as gyms, lounges, and sometimes even crew-only swimming pools. These spaces provide a perfect opportunity to unwind after a long day of work.

Socializing at Sea: Building Friendships and Embracing Cultures

Working on a cruise ship offers a fantastic opportunity to make friends from all around the world. With crew members hailing from various countries and backgrounds, you'll have the chance to learn about different cultures and expand your global perspective.

Social events and gatherings are often organized for crew members, providing the perfect setting to forge lasting connections and share memorable experiences. Your fellow crew members will become your family at sea, making your time onboard all the more enjoyable.

Adapting to Life at Sea: Embracing the Unique Work Environment

Life on a cruise ship is undoubtedly different from working on land. Adapting to this unique environment is essential for a successful and fulfilling experience.

Be prepared for the potential challenges of living at sea, such as coping with limited personal space, adjusting to irregular work hours, and dealing with the occasional bout of seasickness.

Embrace the adventure and remember that the rewards – travel, friendships, and personal growth – are well worth any temporary inconveniences.

  • Age: Be at least 18 or 21 years old, depending on the cruise line's requirements.
  • Language fluency: Be proficient in English, or another language specified by the cruise line, to communicate effectively with passengers and fellow crew members.
  • Valid passport: Ensure your passport is up to date and has enough validity remaining for the duration of your contract.
  • Visa or work permit: Obtain any required visas or work permits for the countries the ship will visit - the cruise line or agent will assist you with that.
  • Basic safety training certificate: Complete mandatory safety training courses, such as the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) certification.
  • Medical examination: Pass a comprehensive medical examination to confirm that you're fit for duty.
  • Criminal background check: Clear a criminal background check to guarantee the safety and security of passengers and crew.
  • Hard worker and people skills : you will be required to work long hours and interact a lot with guests. You will have to be comfortable with people.

By meeting these requirements, you'll be well on your way to starting an exciting and rewarding career on the high seas. No to worry, the successful candidate will get help from the cruise business before the start of their employment in order to get ready for their new careers.

Sailing Through Salaries: How Much Do Cruise Ship Jobs Pay?

Setting sail with entry-level pay.

As you embark on your cruise ship career, it's important to understand the salary expectations for various roles. Entry-level positions, such as galley cleaners, pot washers, and deckhands, typically have lower salaries, starting around $500 per month. However, these roles often come with free accommodations, meals, and the opportunity to travel the world, which can offset the lower pay.

Anchoring Down Higher Pay with Specialized Roles

As you gain experience and move into specialized roles, your earning potential increases. For example, cruise ship doctors can earn over $10,000 per month, while other specialized roles like captains and entertainment directors also command higher salaries.

With dedication and hard work, you can climb the ranks and reap the rewards.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cruise Makes a Splash In Year 2

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cruise Makes a Splash In Year 2

JC Allen recalls his time aboard the second annual Buccaneers cruise.

  • Author: JC Allen

In this story:

It was smooth sailing on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ second annual Bucs Cruise presented by Cruise Planners and Celebrity Cruises. The ship set sail from Port Everglades on April 4th docking in Key West and the Bahamas before returning to Fort Lauderdale four days later. Over 600 Bucs fans descended on the cruise from across the U.S. filled with Buccaneer legends, current players, cheerleaders, and of course, Captain Fear.

Aboard the ship Silhouette, fans took in player panels, participated in games, and of course got to mingle one-on-one with some of their favorite players. That experience wasn’t just meaningful for the fans but also for the players themselves as Luke Goedeke notes.

“Being able to interact with them in an environment other than a football setting has been a phenomenal experience," Goedeke said. "Just being able to be myself around them and them seeing me more as a person instead of just a football player.”

The cruise boasted 13 players spanning the history of the Buccaneers franchise, featuring legends like Jimmie Giles, Dexter Jackson, and Warren Sapp to current Bucs like Rachaad White, Yaya Diaby, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, Jamel Dean, Luke Goedeke, Christian Izien, Cade Otton, and Greg Gaines.

The voice of the Bucs, Gene Deckerhoff, was on board as well as Chief Operating Officer Brian Ford. It even featured a video message from Rob Gronkowski who teased his possible appearance on next year's cruise. Martin Gramatica was also on hand before the ship set sail signing autographs and taking pictures with fans.

undefined

The cruise kicked off with a sailaway party on the top deck introducing the players that would be onboard. It featured a DJ and drinks flowing as fans got to interact with and receive autographs from some of their favorite players. Following the sailaway party was the first of four cocktail receptions that featured an intimate experience for fans to chat it up with players and get memorabilia signed.

The next morning featured a special breakfast with Bucs legend Derrick Brooks benefiting charity which allowed another opportunity for fans to meet the Hall of Fame linebacker. Throughout the day there were special guest presentations with Deckerhoff, Moore, Sapp, Ford, and Brooks himself as well as trivia and time to explore Key West.

“It’s been pretty cool! It’s a great deal for fans and for players," defensive tackle Greg Gaines said. "The Bahamas were sweet, the ship is sweet, everything is cool. It’s a lot of fun hanging out with fans and players and there's a lot of one-on-one time.”

The action didn’t stop or slow down on our day at sea, kicking off the day with two-player panels. The first of which featured legends from Buccaneers franchise history followed by current players. Both panels were hosted by Bucs team reporter Casey Phillips. In between the panels was a thrilling game of heads-up where a fan was paired with a player competing for the win. As fans were heading into the theatre some were randomly handed cards and were told to hold onto them. Coincidentally, I was handed one of those cards.

undefined

I was paired up with Otton and we crushed the competition, going seven for seven in correct answers before the time ran out. But we weren’t the only ones to get every answer correct. Goedeke and his partner also finished with seven and a head-to-head competition was in order. While he was quick with the buzzer, Otton answered incorrectly, giving the win to Goedeke and his partner. It was a fun experience to be a part of and only set up the competitive nature for what was to come later in the day.

“It’s been awesome the fans have been super respectful, but also you can tell how much they support their team," Otton said.

It was time for a volleyball showdown, which ended up being Team Dean versus Team Tryon-Shoyinka. The competition was fierce and after a close game in the first round, Team Dean, consisting of White, Diaby, Goedke, and Sapp, put the finishing touches on Team Tryon-Shoyinka, who went Husky heavy in his draft. Team Dean went on to quickly defeat the captains and crew of the ship for the second straight year, with Diaby winning the MVP.

undefined

That night there were more player presentations with Sapp and others, Bingo, and a family feud-style game that featured players versus cheerleaders. The final day of the cruise featured a free day to explore Nassau, Bahamas. I set out on an excursion to Pearl Island to swim with the pigs. Greg Gaines was with me, and I can say it was an experience for sure. Most of the other players spent their day in Atlantis while others enjoyed the sights and sounds of the Bahamas.

The final night of the cruise was celebrated with players and fans with the last two cocktail parties of the voyage. It was another opportunity for fans to mingle and meet their favorite players while receiving autographs and taking pictures. To say one final farewell, fans rocked out at a retro creamsicle party that featured a surprise appearance from Bucco Bruce himself.

undefined

The Bucs Cruise is an opportunity to make memories that will last a lifetime. Sailing with Buccaneers legends and players out on the open sea was a fantastic experience. One that I won’t soon forget.

7 things to do as soon as you board a cruise ship.

Making the most of embarkation day can set you up for an enjoyable cruise vacation.

If you’ve never cruised before, embarking a modern vessel for the first time can be truly overwhelming. You don’t know what you don’t know, but by not doing certain things within the first hours, you risk spoiling your dream vacation.

The embarkation day process for a cruise is like a streamlined airport experience. Cruise lines provide a time window, usually from late morning to mid-afternoon, for arrival at the port.

Upon arrival, keep your boarding documents and ID ready. Once you’ve dropped off your luggage, cruise staff guide you to check-in where you'll present your ID, complete a health form, and receive your cruise card or wristband.

This card acts as a boarding pass, room key, and payment card onboard. Some lines offer keyless embarkation, allowing direct access to rooms and cards collected at the cabin. Before boarding, you'll go through a security line, albeit less rigorous than at an airport.

Once onboard, make sure to do these seven things as soon as you can. From checking your accommodations to enjoying the iconic sailaway, these steps ensure you maximize your onboard experience right from the start.

‘Outlander’ Finally Comes To Netflix With An Incredible New Season

300 billion perfect storm bitcoin price crash under 60 000 suddenly accelerates as ethereum xrp and crypto brace for shock fed flip, the top 10 richest people in the world may 2024, check your accommodation thoroughly.

As soon as you enter your cabin, inspect everything to ensure it meets your expectations and everything is in working order. Check that all facilities, such as the shower, toilet flush, lights, and electrical outlets, function properly.

If there is anything amiss, this is the time to contact guest services. You should expect a long queue on embarkation day, but the sooner you identify an issue, the higher the chance of a quick resolution, especially if an alternative cabin may be required.

You should check your cruise ship cabin and meet your room steward as soon as you can on embarkation ... [+] day.

This time also gives you an opportunity to stow your valuables in the cabin safe, and freshen up if desired.

Meet Your Cabin Steward

Introduce yourself to your cabin steward . They are key to ensuring your stay is comfortable, and will most likely call on you as soon as they realize you have arrived.

Discuss any specific preferences or needs you might have, such as extra pillows or allergies, or mention if you are late sleepers, for example. If you have any queries about room service or laundry options, now is the time to ask.

Cabin stewards are always professional, but getting to know yours early can enhance your onboard experience significantly.

Book Everything

Modern cruise ships are home to a dazzling range of entertainment and dining options. Early booking is crucial for popular onboard activities, dining reservations, and shore excursions.

In some cases, popular activities may have sold out prior to the cruise. For those that need to be booked on board, visit the relevant information desk or use the onboard app to make all your bookings as soon as possible.

You should also check your allocated dining time, if you are on a ship that operates a fixed dining concept. If you’re unhappy with the allocation, visit the maitre’d to request a change.

Attend Muster

The only absolute must-do on the first day is the muster drill. Prior to the pandemic, many cruise lines still required physical attendance in the theater or other large venue to go through the cruise safety procedures .

Nowadays, almost all cruise lines offer a virtual muster experience. Typically, a safety video is available on the cabin TV (which must be watched before accessing other functions) or even on the cruise line app.

You may still need to attend your designated lifeboat station to have your name taken, but this is straightforward and takes mere minutes.

Take Advantage Of Ship Tours

When you arrive in your cabin, check your daily planner to see if there are any introductory tours or sessions offered by the cruise line.

Embarkation day can be hectic and overwhelming. Join a guided tour to get your bearings.

Ship tours are ideal for first-time cruisers unfamiliar with the ship’s layout and generally how things work on board.

Keep an eye out for embarkation day tours or introductory sessions at the spa, fitness center, or casino. These often include special promotions or offers to kickstart your cruise experience.

Airplane Mode

To avoid hefty roaming charges, switch your phone to airplane mode. While at sea, your device could inadvertently connect to a cellular maritime network , which incurs high costs or data.

Even if you don't actively use your phone, you might accrue a significant bill from background data usage by your apps before you even receive an SMS notification—if you receive one at all.

Most cruise ships offer Wi-Fi packages, so consider purchasing one if you need to stay connected. Remember, cruise line apps typically require connection to the ship’s Wi-Fi network, but you can use them without buying an internet package.

Alternatively, use this time to disconnect and enjoy the break from constant connectivity. If so, use the time before sailaway to send some farewell messages.

Enjoy Sailaway

The sailaway party is a cruise tradition not to be missed. On many lines, the top decks will host live music and festivities as the ship departs.

It’s the perfect time to grab a drink, meet other travelers, and take in the stunning views as you set sail on your adventure. If you want to toast the sailaway, be sure to get a drink in good time, as the bars will all be busy.

Cruise Line Jobs for North Americans

Until changes come from the U.S. government, what does this mean for you as a job seeker when North Americans are somewhat excluded from the low wage housekeeping, maintenance, and kitchen support staff positions?

Cruise Ship Jobs can be Tough to Find for North Americans but its not Impossible

Fortunately, a majority of cruise ship passengers are North Americans, so cruise lines are eager to hire Americans and Canadians for customer service positions involving interaction with English-speaking tourists. This includes shore excursion directors, retail clerks, bartenders, cruise staff, casino staff, and hosts, just to name a few. Not only do these positions pay far better than most other shipboard jobs, they’re more interesting, carry more privileges and freedom to roam all areas of the ship and mingle with passengers, and often afford better living quarters than lower-wages.

Of course, the drawback to this arrangement is that many low-skill jobs that would normally be entry-level on land simply won’t be available to you. This means that you must work hard to convince cruise lines that you already have the skills necessary to work on board in more specialized positions, such as casino work , retail sales, or aerobics instruction. Also, you must sell yourself as having the ability to interact well with passengers, one of a personnel manager’s primary concerns.

Not all cruise lines use foreign-registered vessels, and several use crews which are almost entirely American. If you end up looking at Norwegian Cruise Line employment opportunities, consider that they have an offshoot called NCL America. This division cruises in Hawaiian waters.

These cruise lines are often more specialized and hire a much smaller staff than the large cruise lines, but they do hire Americans for entry-level work as room stewards and kitchen and maintenance staff. Since the staff is much smaller than on a large ship, you might find yourself with a greater combination of duties. For instance, you might clean rooms all morning, assist with meal preparation in the afternoon, and help with ship maintenance in the evening. These smaller companies often cruise exclusively along North America’s coasts and rivers. Check the cruise listings carefully.

A cruise to nowhere: Royal Caribbean sailing canceled after guests boarded

cruise ship for hire

A Royal Caribbean International Alaska voyage became a cruise to nowhere over the weekend, with the line canceling the sailing after guests had already boarded.

The cruise line’s Radiance of the Seas ship experienced propulsion issues, forcing it to shorten and eventually scrap the weeklong itinerary, according to notices shared with guests. The sailing was originally set to depart from Vancouver on Friday.

Charlene Chong, who was on board with her husband, their 3-year and 11-month-old children, and her parents, said passengers were notified Saturday afternoon that the cruise was canceled. The 34-year-old teacher and her husband previously took a cruise for their honeymoon, but this marked their first trip with Royal Caribbean.

“My parents had wanted to go to Alaska for a really long time,” said Chong, who lives in Vancouver.

The cruise line warned guests several days before boarding that the ship had a “technical issue with its propulsion system,” according to an email sent to passengers that Chong shared with USA TODAY. The line later pushed the departure back by two days to allow more time for repairs.

Royal Caribbean said boarding would proceed as planned but that the terminal would close Friday evening due to U.S. Customs and Border Protection rules. Passengers would not be able to leave until the ship arrived at Icy Strait Point.

“We were going stir crazy a little bit,” said Chong.

Royal Caribbean gave guests onboard credit worth two days of their fare, a future cruise credit of the same amount, complimentary drinks and other compensation, another email said.

According to Chong, the ship sailed toward a nearby cargo port, but the captain announced Saturday afternoon that the sailing could not proceed and that guests would need to disembark by Sunday at 4 p.m. Chong said she and her family were “lucky” they were local, but she saw other guests scrambling to change their flights and find accommodations.

Your cruise was canceled: Now what?

“We understand the disappointment due to this unfortunate turn of events,” the cruise line said in a letter shared with guests. “We truly extend our sincerest apologies for the continued unforeseen disruptions to your vacation.”

Royal Caribbean gave them their money back as onboard credit with any remaining amount refunded, increased their future cruise credit to 100% of their fare and kept its open-bar policy for the remaining time on board. The line also offered to reimburse trip change fees up to $250 for guests traveling domestically and $400 for international travel and additional reimbursements for hotel and transportation costs, among other compensation.

“Due to a technical issue, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the April 26 sailing," a Royal Caribbean spokesperson said in an emailed statement. "Guests will receive a full refund and 100% future cruise credit, and have been notified directly.” The spokesperson did not comment on the specifics of Chong's experience.

The ship will resume service for its May 3 sailing.

After they got home, Chong and her family booked a trip to Mexico instead – though her parents decided not to join as they were “a bit exhausted by the whole ordeal.” For now, she’s not inclined to use the future cruise credit. “I would like to go to Alaska,” she said. “I'm not sure if I want to go with them.”
