ELEPHANTPROOF (FEATURING FOUNDING MEMBERS OF GOOSE) ANNOUNCES 2022 WINTER TOUR DATES

Article contributed by greg knight | published on thursday, november 11, 2021.

elephant proof tour

Today, Boston-based progressive rock quartet ElephantProof announced plans for a four-show northeast run in January 2022. The project, born nearly a decade ago at Berklee College of Music, features founding members of Goose Ben Atkind (Drums) and Chris Enright (Keys), as well as Sean Cronin (Guitar) and Shon Gordon (Bass). Tour commences on 1/7 at Soundcheck Studios in Pembroke, MA, followed by a show at the brand-new Park City Music Hall in Bridgeport, CT on 1/8. The subsequent weekend will see the band visit Putnam Place in Saratoga Springs, NY on 1/14. ElephantProof will close the run with an inaugural visit to The Fillmore Philadelphia to open for Baltimore-based funk act Pigeons Playing Ping Pong.

“2021 was a big year for us - we released new studio material, and we were so stoked to finally perform again at Fred [The Festival],” said Ben Atkind (Drums). “We can’t wait to take this project out on the road next year and show everyone what we’ve been working on.”

ElephantProof 2022 Tour Dates

Performances at Soundcheck Studios and Putnam Place will include supporting sets from Saratoga Springs rock band Annie in the Water, and Connecticut psych-groove quartet KRIS will open the show at Park City Music Hall.

For more information, and to purchase tickets, visit the band's facebook page .

This week, ElephantProof released a pro-shot video featuring a live rendition of original single “Baltimore Scrappledorf.” The uncompromisingly gritty track showcases the band’s command of cohesive dissonance, slowly amalgamating complex themes into a toe-tapping dance tune. “Baltimore Scrappledorf” was recorded and engineered by Robert Aceto at Gary’s Electric Studio in Brooklyn, NY, and the video was directed by Bryan Murphy .

ElephantProof Bio:

ElephantProof is a euphonic snapshot of the unique sonic energy born at the house parties your best friends still talk about to this day. Refined by disciplined training and years of performance experience, Ben Atkind (Drums), Sean Cronin (Guitar), Chris Enrigh t (Keys) and Shon Gordon (Bass) are reconnected, traipsing along the rigid confines of genre using erudite tonal expression.

The four members met at Berklee College of Music and officially established ElephantProof in 2012, quickly becoming a cornerstone in a Boston music scene brimming with emerging talent. After a string of successful local performances in 2014, ElephantProof members elected to explore a season of separation in pursuit of individual artistic identity. Atkind and Enright became founding members of Goose , while Cronin and Gordon found roles with a handful of diverse musical acts in the Northeast.

The band returned to the studio in 2021 to complete EP EP , a seven-track project comprised of tracks written over the past decade. The project, a collage of precise musicianship, free-flowing improvisation, showmanship, and humor, arrived before a premiere late-night set at Lockn’ Presents: Fred the Festival . Armed with fresh material and a thirst for musical exploration, ElephantProof will return to the road in 2022.

Ben Atkind Confirms Initial 2024 ElephantProof Appearance After Parting Ways with Goose

Ben Atkind Confirms Initial 2024 ElephantProof Appearance After Parting Ways with Goose

In December 2023, Ben Atkind officially announced his separation from Goose. The band followed up, offering their own statement and later enlisting a new backbeat, Cotter Ellis. In a live music move, Atkin has shared his intent to perform at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl on Thursday, March 21, alongside ElephantProof.

Atkind is an original member of Boston’s Berklee College of Music formed quintet, ElephantProof. Before his start in Goose, the drummer was gigging alongside the jazz-informed unit, which started in 2012 and eventually went their separate ways in 2014.

Notably, in 2021, Atkind, Sean Cronin, Chris Enright, and Shon Gordon came together in the studio to cut the 7-track collection EP EP.  In continuation of their collective experience, ElephantProof’s March dates function as the band’s initial 2024 appearance and Atkind’s first with this unit of musicians after leaving Goose.

Apart from ElephantProof’s involvement in the Brooklyn Bowl gig, the March 21 bill extends to include stage time from TalkPeck SoundSystem, featuring Matt McNulty, Sammi Garett (Cool Cool Cool), Tim Palmieri (Lotus), Mike Greenfield (Lotus), Miles Livolsi (Residual Groove), Kiran Edwards (Residual Groove) and Garret Conroy (Residual Groove) and more.

ElephantProof Tickets

Elephantproof concert tickets.

Escape into the jazz-blues genre with ElephantProof tickets from TicketSmarter. Beginning with the birth of blues in the 1870s Deep South, the storytelling quality of the genre has made it one of the most beloved and intimate music styles. As the 1920s approached, jazz came on the scene and became a rousing compliment to an already-established musical movement.

Drawing from its origins in the traditions of African Music, the blues greatly influenced the emergence of early jazz. Often woven with themes of struggle and spirituality, the jazz-blues genre rose to prominence with early pioneers such as W.C. Handy, known as the father of the blues.

Popularly considered to be the soul of New Orleans and St. Louis, the unmistakable sound resonates with a diverse range of listeners. Instruments play a significant role in the stylization of the music itself and popular accompaniments include harmonica, saxophone and slide guitar. Artists like B.B. King brought the genre to a new generation in the 1950s.

As the music continued to emerge and evolve, musicians like Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Joe Bonamassa carried the traditional sounds to contemporary audiences. Buy ElephantProof tickets today and get lost in the music.

How much are ElephantProof tickets?

100 elephants are moving across the U.S. — a herd of life-size replicas

Visitors will be able to get close to — and even touch — 100 life-size sculptures of Indian elephants which are beginning a cross-country journey.

The Great Elephant Migration traveling art exhibition aims to spread awareness about conservation efforts.

The herd consists of replicas of real-life elephants personally known to The Coexistence Collective — the community of around 200 artisans in southern India who made them.

Conceived a decade ago by The Coexistence Collective together with Elephant Family USA , a nonprofit that helps protect Indian wildlife, the sculptures were first shown in London and India before coming to the U.S.

The herd can be seen in Newport, R.I., through early September. From there they will head to New York City, Miami, the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana and finally Los Angeles.

The organization is planning to sell the elephants off to raise funds for 22 conservation organizations around the country as the tour progresses. Organizers said 30 sculptures had already been sold off, with prices ranging from $8,000 for a baby elephant to $22,000 for the largest tusked specimen.

In Newport, the proceeds will go to Save the Bay , which works to remove invasive weeds from local salt marshes in order to help restore the salt marsh sparrow population.

Turning an invasive weed into an art material

The enormous, life-like sculptures are made out of lantana camara — a tough, invasive weed that’s been encroaching heavily upon the elephants’ natural forest habitat, pushing the animals onto tea and coffee plantations where they live in much closer proximity to humans.

"Lantana has displaced animals across huge areas, because it takes over from herbs and shrubs that are edible for animals," said Tarsh Thekaekara, a wildlife conservationist specializing in human-elephant relations who's connected with the Great Elephant Migration project. "40 to 50% of many parks in India are taken over by Lantana."

From elephants in India to coyote and raccoons in the U.S.

Elephant Family USA trustee and Coexistence Collective cofounder Ruth Ganesh said that even though the exhibition has traveled internationally, it was always conceived with the U.S. in mind, because Americans already understand what it means to share urban environments with wild animals like coyote and raccoons.

"You have such an array of wildlife where there are genuine coexistence challenges," said Ganesh. "So this exhibition about elephants coexisting with humans brings the issue to life."

She hopes visitors will learn more about how important it is for animals and humans to negotiate shared space, as more places become uninhabitable for both owing to direct human destruction and the impacts of human-caused climate change.

For more than a decade now, Cage the Elephant has been quietly racking up smash hits on rock radio. The band is back at No. 1 on one specific tally, one which they have come to know very well throughout the years. The group earns another winner this frame, and as they do, they match several of the most successful acts at one format.

Cage the Elephant’s current focus track “Rainbow” climbs to No. 1 on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart this week. The track ascends from No. 4 to the throne on Billboard’s ranking of the tunes that reach the largest audience at a radio format known as adult alternative.

The band has now earned seven No. 1s on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart throughout their years together. That’s one of the more impressive accumulations of champions in the tally’s history, and Cage the Elephant is now matched with some familiar figures .

As “Rainbow” hits No. 1, Cage the Elephant ties R.E.M., as well as two acts with the word “crow” in their title. Both Sheryl Crow and the Counting Crows have also snagged seven rulers on the radio ranking.

At present, U2 continues to lead all artists, with 14 No. 1 singles earned on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart. Coldplay is following very closely behind, with a lucky 13 dominating tracks.

Impressively, half of all the songs that Cage the Elephant has placed on the radio roster have reached the summit. So far, the band has seen 14 tracks hit the Adult Alternative Airplay chart, and 11 of them have entered the top 10.

“Rainbow” marks Cage the Elephant’s second No. 1 on the tally this year. In March, “Neon Pill,” the title track from their recently-released album, climbed to the top spot. They landed a pair of No. 1s in one other year: 2019. Back then, both “Ready to Let Go” and “Social Cues” topped the ranking for a time.
