is essential for the right game feel and can even affect your performance. Whether it's a whole room or a corner, retro or modern, we'll give you tips on design, decoration, wall and light design, furniture selection, sound insulation and much more.
Gaming Room Ideas
Before we dive into some planning, let's first take a look at some gaming rooms for inspiration from around the web...

Maybe you’ve already got some gaming room ideas. Together with our instructions, you will soon be able to turn them into reality.
Time and budget for your game room
Setting up a beautiful gaming room is no easy task. The optimal gaming room includes many different components and the furnishing should always be seen as a process. How quickly you want to set up your gaming room, or how far you want to go into detail, depends of course on the size of your wallet on the one hand and on your available time on the other. If you don’t want to spend too much money, be sure to check out ebay, flea markets and other second-hand shops – every now and then you can find cool things to decorate. Depending on how creative and crafty you are, you can also build many things yourself out of wood or other materials. If furnishing an entire room for gaming is too much effort for you or you lack space, you can always limit yourself to furnishing a gaming corner.
Crafty people build their gaming room completely by themselves. Here the possibilities are endless | Credit: pinterest.com
Determine room size - gaming palace or gaming corner?
First of all, you should think about how much space you can and want to allocate to your gaming room. How do you want to set it up? Should it be a whole room or more of a gaming corner? We have listed the advantages and disadvantages of each option:
Choosing a suitable room
Now that you may have an idea of how big your room should be, you need to choose a suitable room for it. When choosing a suitable room, of course, it depends on the conditions at home. If you still live with your parents, it might be difficult to convince your dad to convert his study into a gamer den. Unless you have other empty rooms, you have no choice but to decorate your own room accordingly. So for you, a gaming corner probably makes more sense. But a gamer corner also makes sense for anyone who doesn't necessarily want to convert an entire room. For example, a guest room or training room can also be a gaming room at the same time.
Building a gaming corner into a sloping roof?
What sounds cozy at first glance could turn out to be impractical, depending on the orientation of your gaming setup. If you place your table against the wall under a slanted roof, you can only use small monitors, depending on the slant, because they will otherwise hit the slant. It becomes even more problematic if you have or want to purchase a height-adjustable gaming table. This can then no longer be moved into a standing position.
Furniture & Accessories
What furniture, hardware and decorative elements are part of the furnishings of a modern gaming room?
There are no limits when it comes to furnishing your gaming room. Of course, there are a few core components (e.g. table and chair) that belong in every room. If you spend a lot of time at the computer, you should also pay attention to the ergonomic qualities of your equipment. The more ergonomic your gaming furniture is, the better and longer you'll be able to play.

Gaming Setup
Your gaming setup is the heart of your room. However, your PC or console as well as the associated hardware like monitors, keyboard and co can influence the design of the rest of your room. If you have a minimalistic setup, a minimalistic design would also fit well. If you have a setup with a lot of colorful RGB lights, it's a good idea to make the whole room glow.
Gaming desk
The desk is the foundation of your gaming room, as everything happens on it. Generally, it should have enough space for a large mouse pad and keyboard, dual or triple monitor setup. Especially for larger setups, it is also important to make sure that the tabletop is made of one piece and does not bend or collapse under heavy towers or streaming setups. If you attach importance to ergonomics and health, a height-adjustable desk also makes sense in order to always sit at the right height or even to play and work standing up.
👉 You can find our complete gaming desk guide here.
Gaming chair
The gaming chair is another core component that should not be skimped on. It should usually have elements such as backrest, armrests and height adjustability.
👉 Check out our comprehensive guide to buying a gaming chair .
Gaming arm chair or couch
Unless you're a competitive gamer, you're more likely to need a comfortable couch or gaming chair if you're a relaxed console gamer. This way you can comfortably sit in front of your big flat screen or canvas. If you want to install a projector, you should make sure that your gaming room is large enough to provide enough distance between the projector and the screen. However, short-distance projectors are now available, but they are a bit more expensive.

You don't need a big budget!
Contrary to what many might expect, electric height-adjustable desks that provide ergonomic support for your back and also look cool are available at affordable prices. Take the LeetDesk Entry , for example. Starting at just €229.95, it offers all the ergonomic benefits of a pro model!

Gaming room accessories
Almost everyone has a PC at home and everyone knows that you need a mouse, a calculator and a keyboard. But in order to enter the virtual battle as successfully as possible and with style, the room can be enriched with various gadgets. As I said, accessories are mainly about two things: Enhancing the aesthetics of your room and increasing your gaming performance. The following things are suitable for your setup:
An investment in high-quality keyboard and mouse pays off
Always at hand: The headset on the headset holder
Gaming keyboard
The market offers a huge selection of gaming keyboards these days and everyone has different needs - so we won't go into too much detail here. Depending on the style you choose for your gaming room, a backlit keyboard (keyword "RGB") might make sense. If you suffer from wrist pain or want to prevent it, an additional wrist rest might make sense.
Tip for minimalists: Keyboards with a 75% layout look especially good in minimalistic rooms.
Gaming mouse & bungee
Gaming mice are a dime a dozen and for good buying advice, we refer you to the relevant specialist sites. For a clean look, however, a wireless mouse is attractive as it often looks better. Do your research well, though, because there aren't many good wireless mice for fast shooters.
For those with a wired mouse, a Mouse Bungee is recommended. With this gaming accessory, cable twists and tension on the mouse cable are a thing of the past. Again, there are plain designs or LED versions - choose the one that best suits your gaming room look.
Gaming headset & holder
A headset is a must-have for every gamer. Not only does it protect you from storm-ringing neighbors because you turned it up too loud again, but it can also greatly enhance your gaming performance by sharpening your sense of hearing, improving your reaction time, and promoting online communication.
The headset mount serves as a storage space. With this accessory, your headset is easy to hang, always at your fingertips, and keeps an organized look in your gaming room and on your desk.
Don't forget about cable management! All these accessories come with a lot of wires attached. Our cable management guide will help you to keep your setup clean.
LED Gaming Room Lighting - Discreet or RGB Life?
The right lighting in a gaming room not only ensures a cool design, but also serves your health, safety and performance. It prevents premature fatigue, prevents bad posture and accidents, and also enhances performance. However, incorrect or excessive lighting can distract you, cause headaches, or irradiate the neighbors.
LED vs. sunlight
Daylight and artificial light therefore play an important role in setting up your gaming room. It is also important to pay attention to the angle of your screens to the window in order to avoid possible reflections. Remember, reflections can cost you the victory! You must always keep in mind how you can improve your own game from the outside and which factors play a role in this. Your screen should ideally be oriented across the window so that the sunlight hits the gaming surface from the side of your writing hand. Of course, it is always possible to work with curtains, but sometimes it is also quite pleasant not to have the game room completely artificially lit. Of course, LED light strips look pretty cool, but you should also make sure to let natural sunlight into the room.
If you want to achieve top performance while gaming, you should also use more sunlight than LED lights in the room. The natural light of the sun is very important for the biological energy production of humans. The light flicker of LED lamps puts the human body under stress and can cause headaches, fatigue, migraines, exhaustion and concentration problems. Most of the time, people do not actively perceive the flickering light, but if you notice that you already perceive the flickering of the LED lamp, switch it off immediately!
If you want to set accents with light sources in general, it is best to place them behind the screens. Shining direct light on the screen should also be avoided. This tires the eyes and weakens your ability to concentrate. If “health” is an issue for you anyway, take a look at our article “Sitting correctly at the PC – for a healthy and better gaming lifestyle”.
Although it looks very chic, too much light can disturb you while playing. The black light-like colours can also have a negative effect on your mood in the long run.
Direct vs. indirect lighting
The optimal lighting concept is a mix of direct and indirect lighting as well as a table lamp and daylight. This way you can always decide for yourself whether the daylight is sufficient and which light source is best to switch on. Pendant, floor or wall lamps are also an optimal solution for perfect room lighting, as they not only emit their light downwards, but also distribute it indirectly in the gaming room. This way, the light is well distributed in the room and your spatial perception is also supported, since all surfaces get a structure and the room does not look monotonous.
If you are aiming for the RGB Life, then make sure that you do not have any direct light in your eyes and that you take some time off from the LED light - preferably with natural sunlight.
Where are you my sunlight? Natural light can also have a positive effect on your well-being from time to time!
Cable management
It starts with the LAN cable and doesn’t seem to end. Unfortunately, almost everything needs a cable (loudspeakers, consoles, screens, PCs, lamps, etc.) and so there is often a cable chaos in the room. Not only does it look lame, in the worst case you might even trip over it.
Internet connection - WiFi vs. LAN?
Before we turn to cable management in general, we need to clarify an important question first: WiFi vs. LAN? By now, everyone has a WLAN-capable router at home, which is of course super practical and helps to save a lot of cable clutter. In addition, an unlimited number of devices can be used simultaneously. However, when it comes to FPS games like Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, Battlefield or Fortnite, a fast and interference-free internet connection is necessary. It often helps to connect the PC or console to the router with a conventional LAN cable, because the LAN connection has a higher transmission rate and is less susceptible to interference. Ideally, the router should be as close as possible to the PC or console to avoid unnecessary cable traffic. One thing is certain: it all depends on the ping! A WLAN connection is somewhat more susceptible to interference in this area and there can therefore be dropouts in the connection. This does not happen with a LAN connection. Even though you can connect more devices with WLAN, the connected devices have to share the power. With a LAN cable, on the other hand, each connected device receives the full speed.
Taming the cable chaos
As a solution, you can try to hide as much of it as possible under carpets and behind cupboards. In addition, you can also fold several cables together and turn them into one big cable with a cable tie. For the gaming desk, it makes sense to store as many cables as possible directly under the tabletop – either with a bunch of cable ties and tape or with a cable rail that is screwed under the desk.

Sound isolation - For streamers, sound enthusiasts and clairaudient neighbours
Who hasn’t experienced it? You’ve just had a super killing spree and already you can hear your mother scolding you to be quiet? Admittedly, a gaming room is typically quite noisy, the cries of despair or joy are often louder than you realise. However, good sound insulation not only protects your fellow occupants from noise, but also helps boost the sound quality in the gaming room itself and ensures clear sound during microphone recordings.
From carpet to sound absorber
Carpets, thick curtains or even several pieces of furniture provide reasonably good sound isolation. But if you want to take it to the next level, you can buy a suitable sound insulation. Acoustic foam insulation ensures that the sound from your gaming room is greatly reduced. It’s best to use thick composite foams because the thicker the foam, the better the isolation. You must be aware that you are not allowed to attach anything to a foam wall (no pictures, posters, etc.) and you are not allowed to paint the foam wall. However, if you really want to spice up the wall, you can use wallpaper. Be careful, though, because the foam is soft and holes can easily appear if you touch the wall. On the other hand, you can also use sound absorbers or wall tiles in different shapes to make your wall a little more beautiful and still isolate the sound.
Sound Absorber Panels as a Gaming Room Wall
In addition to the actual function of sound insulation, these panels can also be used specifically for wall decoration.

Gaming Room Deco - Minimalist or Themed?
You now have your room so far that all components are in place, your gaming room accessories are ready for use and the right lighting is tuned? Perfect, then all that's missing now is the gaming room decor! Overall, you can say that there are three ways you can design your gaming room: Minimalist, RGB, Themed or a combination of all.
Minimalist and modern gaming room
A minimalist gaming room is, as the name suggests, very minimalist in design. This design is suitable for all those who like things to be tidy and who see themselves and their gaming in the foreground. You only need the most important things: your desk, your chair and your PC. Playful PC accessories are not desired here. Since it’s all about gaming here, ergonomics also play a relevant role, so look for appropriately ergonomic gaming furniture. The colour scheme is characterised by few colours, usually only two (e.g. black and white or black and orange). Many people opt for cold light here, but as we have seen, warmer light is better for one’s well-being in the long run

RGB & LED Gaming Room
Neon, colorful and bright, anyone who still remembers NFS Underground knows what we are talking about. Meanwhile, many are designing their rooms according to the #rgblife. The use of many colored LED lights often creates a futuristic look that reminds you of the cyberpunk genre. The advantage of such a decoration is the flexible mounting and the different color modes. You can be as creative as you want! Your gaming components can of course also include RGB lighting. Here are a few gaming room ideas regarding RGB lighting in a gaming room:
- RGB enabled keyboard, mouse & mouse pad
- RGB enabled headset & headset holder
- LED light strips for desk and walls
- LED panels and illuminated signs

If you think that a themed gaming room is only for otakus, you’re wrong! You can express your passion for a game quite well through themed decoration. In the list below, we have listed a few gadgets and furnishings that are often available in different themes (games, movies, pop-culture etc). Just Google your favourite game, film or similar in connection with these furnishings:
- Mouse, Keyboard & Controller Skins
- Printed mouse pads
- Pictures, posters and displates
- (Deco) Lamps
- Wall tattoos and wall foils
- Printable floor mats
- Figurines and stuffed animals
- Mugs & coasters

Everything was better in the past - that's why there's nothing better than living in the past and wallowing in nostalgic melancholy in your retro gaming room with synthwave music.
The next flea market or ebay is a treasure chest for cheap relics from the past. Look around for the following stuff:
- Old consoles, games & controllers
- Old Action Figures
- Old games magazines
- Old stereo equipment
- Display cases 4:3 TV sets

GAMING AND ENTERTAINMENT SET-UP
First up we have the gorgeous 48” LG C1 OLED TV which makes basically anything you throw at it look absolutely stunning.
The deep blacks contrast really nicely against bright colours. I’ve never normally been one to fuss over a TV before - but every time I sit down to watch this after watching something on our other Samsung TV, it just looks so much better. Still hands down the best TV I’ve ever owned.
Connected to this TV we have both the PS5 and Xbox Series X . I tend to play the PS5 with my kids but for me, from around 10pm until midnight you can find me sitting on my sofa, playing the Xbox Series X and playing some cross-platform Call of Duty with the same 3 people I’ve played with basically since lockdown, half of which play on PS5 and the other on Xbox. It’s been great to just chill out, put my feet up and complain about which Call of Duty is the buggiest.
I generally tend to play with headphones on because the kids are normally asleep upstairs - and for me, it’s the official Playstation headphones or the Steelseries Arctis 9X depending on the console I’m using, though to be honest, if I could swap the Playstation headphones for the Steelseries equivalent then I would do that in a heartbeat.
Another piece of tech that you’ll notice we’ve got going on here is the lighting - and this is all from Govee .
There are 2 Govee Floor Lamps that add some really fun splashes of colour to the wall, and there’s also the Govee Immersion TV Backlights which had to do a workaround to make them fit, mainly because they’re designed for 55” or larger TV’s, and secondly, because the LG C1 is so thin, it doesn’t really have much to stick the camera to.
Lastly to finish off the Entertainment space I’ve got the Sonos Beam soundbar underneath, which sounds really good. I love being able to use this to play music and use the built-in Google and Amazon voice assistants, but as I said before, I generally use the headphones when playing games, so the Beam only gets used when listening to music or when watching the odd bit of YouTube or Netflix content.
We’ve also got some hooks on the walls now. These are from Amazon - one for me to hang my bags on because it gets them up off the floor, and one on the other side of the room to hang T-shirts. Shout out to Akixi who have partnered with me for 2022 to create content over on their channel.
The only bit of art that I really have on my walls - which I’d love more of - is this teardown of an original, iPhone. The day I’m making this post marks 15 years since Steve Jobs came on to the stage to launch a Phone, MP3 Player and Internet Browser all in one device. And the world was changed.
The guys at Xreart offered to send one of these to me, and they showed me their whole selection where they tear down products and frame them like this. From Gameboys to Apple watches and old Nokias - but I had to go for the original iPhone since it paved the way for a huge amount of tech that we all use in our daily lives now. Shout out to Xreart for this, thank you, and if you want to grab one, they make for amazing gifts as well as look really good on your wall, use this link for 10% OFF
WORKSPACE SET-UP
In some ways, this is the same as it was before, but in others - totally different.
Firstly I replaced what was some pretty badly fitted Amazon fake white brick sticky squares, with felt tiles. They’re individual tiles that you stick to the wall, but I love how they’ve transformed the wall into something that just looks so much better.
We’ve also got yet more Govee lights , and these just work perfectly for what I wanted them for. This year was all about getting rid of the excessive number of lamps and random lights that I had strung around the room, getting the wiring off the floor and making some more permanent fittings. These lights are perfect for what I wanted.
Random fact, but I also swapped out the lights in the ceiling for Philips Hue in both parts of the room. So now I can control the colour of the wall, the Govee strip lights, the TV and basically all parts of the room really easily without having to move things around.
I’ve still kept the same desk, which is the Ikea worktop and the Alex drawers. Classic but very affordable desk combination right there. Also, I have the Herman Miller Embody Chair which I’m a huge fan of. And then I’ve significantly simplified and reduced what I’ve actually got on my desk.
We’ve got the Ergotron monitor arm which makes manoeuvring the massive weight of this Samsung G9 Oddssy Neo a breeze, and means I can reclaim the desk space back from underneath where the stand would normally go. On top of the screen I have the Belkin light bar , just to brighten up my workspace when I’m sitting here late in the evening.
This one has adjustable colour temperature and brightness which is great when working late, and on top of THAT, I have the Logitech C920 webcam . Though I’m looking to upgrade that to something else soon, providing I can actually get my hands on one.
Over to the side, I have my M1 Mac Mini , still loving that. It’s the 2TB with 16Gb of Memory model which is still an absolute beast.
Next, I still have the Caldigit TS3 Plus dock . It’s worked flawlessly, I have no reason at all to change it and It connects to everything I need it to. Currently, I have my Mac running at 120Hz into the DisplayPort of the G9 Neo because it’s what I use almost every day. I also have a PC connected to the screen - more on that in just a moment.
If you remember before I used to have a massive Rode Podcast desk. Well, I decided to put that back in its box, for now, that will be given away or sold off - and instead, I replaced it with the Focusrite audio interface , which is much smaller - but honestly, it’s all I really need for video calls and when I speak to my notabusinesscoach.com coaching clients each week.
Into the Focusrite, I connect in the Sure SM7B , which I guess you could call it the industry standard for podcasting right now. But I normally keep it tucked away on a shelf because I only really use it one day a week where I have back to back coaching calls.
I’m also still rocking the original Harmon Kardon Soundsticks - again, no real reason to upgrade them because they work great.
Other miscellaneous items on my desk are the Logitech MX Keys and the original MX Master, though I have been tempted to try out a mechanical keyboard lately. And we’ve got a Spigen wireless charger - nothing special but it does the job that it needs to do.
Underneath the desk, we have my Windows Gaming PC - which I don’t really use for gaming anymore since getting the Xbox and PS5. Instead, it’s now used to test many of the applications I use and review for these YouTube videos, things like comparing the best Password Managers and Cloud Storage .
The Ryzen 5 with 16Gb of DDR3, a 2080 Graphics Card is another miscellaneous item on my desk, and that’s basically it. Actually, I have an Elgato Capture card in the back of this that I planned to use to stream regularly but then didn’t. So that will be another thing to add to my pile of tech that I’ll either sell off or giveaway to those on the Newsletter and with Patreon getting first dibs.
To the side of my desks I have 2 IKEA shelves, On the left, we have a few bits of camera gear, awards that my business won, props and remotes for various lights and video gear.
You’ll also notice that I’ve got this light that is hanging down from the ceiling. This is part of my mission to get everything off of the floor and just tidies up the whole room rather than having a stand and cable get everywhere.
I’ve also got a bit of a charging station for my iPad, the headphones which I’ve hung on a double hook I got from Amazon, as well as the Apple HomePod Mini. I’ve also got the charger for my new Oura ring which was a Christmas present, absolutely love that.
We’ve got a Levoit Air Purifier because I found that my room would get really dusty, and this helps filter out all of the dust in this room, plus is a nice fan for the summer and I can control it via Amazon’s assistant.
On the other side, we have the Oculus Quest 2 sitting on top of the Anker charging dock. Then the Shure SM7B Mic along with my little baby Yoda friend.
Below that we have the QNAP TS-hEC973AX NAS drive which I have over 80TB of Raw storage for archiving YouTube videos and my Plex library which streams around the house. I chose this NAS because it has a 10GB Ethernet port which I connect directly into my Mac Mini via a Caldigit Thunderbolt adapter so I can move files quickly. Then has the 1Gb for everything else. But also because it has enough ports in there to add SSD’s and caching and all sorts.
This also runs my Home Assistant home automation system which has worked really well for the past year. It’s been flawless to me. No issues. Chugs away through all of the data with no problems. Awesome for what I need it for. I’m backing this up to the cloud - I’m currently testing a few cloud backup services so subscribe if you want to see the video on that one.
Finally, let’s flip around to the other side of the room. The only thing that’s been done so far is that I’ve got yet another Govee light, which is a neon strip that you can basically shape into anything you want. The best I could come up with, through all of my creativity, well - was my initials - but like all the other lights you can get some pretty cool effects out of it. I’m sure someone more creative than me could make some really cool shapes out of it. This corner will eventually have a small storage slash table where my plan is to set up a permanent overhead camera set up so I can quickly shoot the b-roll footage for some of my videos, as well as store all of the mess of boxes and wires underneath too.
Over briefly for the main YouTube desk setup - I’ve now got a smaller electric desk, from my favourite desk company - Ergodesks . And again, attached to the wall now instead of cluttering up the floor with stands is my Overhead camera and Microphone. The other I actually planned on mounting the light to, but realised I could mount the Camera and teleprompter because I kept kicking the camera tripod whilst filming, so that solves that problem. I might get another one for the light - not quite sure yet. But I’ll leave a link to my Kit page below if you’re interested in all the camera and lighting gear that I use to shoot my videos. Thanks for reading - and I’ll see you in the next one.

“Gaming Room Ideas: 10 Tips to Create the Ultimate Gaming Room in 2022”
Don’t miss the recent redfin article we were featured in:.
Video games are big. Like $155 billion big. In fact, it’s estimated that 26% of the world’s population are regular video gamers across various platforms. Given these statistics, it’s likely that you or someone you know is an active video game player, especially if you own a home or rent an apartment in video game meccas like Seattle, WA, or Austin, TX.
Video game rooms are a great way to help get more immersed into a game, regardless of the platform. Depending on budget and space, a gaming room can allow you to bring in more computing power, louder and fuller sound, storage for all of your accessories and decals, and can give you an excuse to use that unused room in your home.
Invest in Quality Displays
You’ll be looking at your displays for hours on end while you game, so choose carefully. There are three general choices to choose from: monitors, televisions, and projectors. Monitors benefit from their smaller size and versatility, while “projection screens can enhance your experience by increasing immersion,” says Benjamin of Elite Screens, a source for cinema-quality projector screens. “Not only do projector screens give you a cinematic feel, but they are better for your eyes as well.”
Projectors are generally best for much larger rooms and are hard to move from one room to another. TVs are the perfect option for those who like consoles and will be sitting farther away from the screen. However, since monitors tend to be the most popular, let’s take a close look at those.
Redfin asked us, along with other experts, to share why you should consider a gaming room for your home. Check out what we had to say!

1. Wooden Desk Top
A wooden desktop is essential game room furniture if you want to pull off this nature-inspired look. It forms the basis of your gaming room decor because it’s often the focal point of any game room setup. This TOPSKY 59″ Big Large Computer Office Desk isn’t the same top used in this image, but it’s really close and achieves the same effect. If you want to create a more rustic feel in your gaming room, you could try using a suitably-sized piece of wood and fashion it into a desk with some DIY tools and skills.
2. Bamboo Monitor Riser
Another essential piece here is the monitor riser. This Oasis Solid Bamboo Riser is a great addition that adds extra desk space and helps lift your monitors. They’ve opted to use a monitor arm in this particular setup, but the riser offers similar benefits and gives you some extra desk space.
3. Various Potted Plants
It wouldn’t be a nature-inspired build without a couple of plants. While you could pot some garden plants as a quick solution, we suggest getting artificial plants to add to your gaming setup. Artificial plants add a splash of green to your gaming room without needing any maintenance. This 4 Pack of Artificial Plants by CEWOR is a great choice because you get a variety of plants to decorate your gaming space.
4. Wooden Speaker Stands
Adding wooden accents is the secret to creating a nature-inspired build without much effort. This pair of Technical Pro 8 Studio Monitor Bookshelf stands has a darker shade than the other items listed. However, it still matches the earthy palette we’re looking for to create a nature-inspired gaming room setup.
5. Wooden Keyboard Rest
Lastly, we’re finishing this section with the Meatanty Wooden Keyboard Wrist Rest . Wooden keyboard rests can look amazing when paired with a keyboard that has a similar color palette. You could even get a wooden keyboard to further add to the theme, but they’re relatively uncommon and might not be the sort of modern peripheral common in a gaming room. This makes a wooden keyboard rest a good way to add a nature-inspired touch to your peripheral setup.
An Ultra Minimalistic Gamer Room With Neutral Colors
Minimalistic gaming room setup ideas aren’t uncommon, but we’ve chosen to highlight this one because it’s really clean and makes fantastic use of neutral colors.
Featured Setup by Gman
6. Customizable Wall Lights
The Nanoleaf Rhythm Edition Smarter Kit is a staple ambient lighting accessory that you’ll see in many gaming room setups. It has a geometric shape that suits most gaming space aesthetics, but you can also tile it to create unique shapes and patterns. This makes it a flexible lighting piece for any minimalistic gaming room with a focus on neutral colors.
7. Adjustable Standing Desk
An essential element of this game room is the UPLIFT V2 Ergo-Edge Curve table in white. It’s big, a neutral color, and has plenty of space for your gaming peripherals. Aesthetic aside, a standing desk like the UPLIFT is an excellent choice for long gaming sessions as it promotes movement and might improve your posture. Curious? We have an article on gaming standing up that you might be interested in reading if you’re curious about trying it.
8. White Storage Cabinet
Game room ideas can get a little wild, but we shouldn’t forget simple and practical additions such as a white storage cabinet. This South Shore Accent Cabinet is close to the cabinet used in Gman’s setup if you’re after something similar. However, any cabinet or storage piece works as long as it’s a neutral color and has enough room to store your belongings.
9. Wall-mounted Hex Shelves
Matching geometric decor elements is one of the classic gaming room ideas you can use to enhance an entire room. These AHDECOR Wall Mounted Hexagon Floating Shelves pair well with the Nanoleaf lights mentioned above, making for a simple yet effective combination that works great for a minimalistic game room setup. Pick a neutral color such as black or white to make it feel even more modern and slick.
10. Cable Management Kit
A hallmark of minimalistic game room design is clean cable management. This 152-piece Cord Management Organizer Kit comes with everything from adhesive ties to sleeves to help you cut down on cable clutter. While it can seem like a hassle to manage your cables, the clean result is well worth it and a must for a minimalistic gaming room setup. Not sure where to start with cable management? Check out our 5-step guide on desk cable management that will run you through the basics.
A Cool Gaming Room With Blue Tones and Diffused Lighting
This cool gaming room with a blue focus and diffused ambient lighting is probably closer to what you might envision when you see the words “game room.” Here are some accessories to consider if you want to create something similar.
Featured Setup by fluxgamess
11. Unique Wallpaper Texture
The brick wallpaper on one of the walls is one of the more eye-catching parts of fluxgamess’ setup. It adds an extra layer of visual interest to their gaming room. If you’re after a similar brick texture, check out Brewster’s FD31284 Rustic Brick Wallpaper , as it’s affordable and easy to install. You can, of course, go for a different pattern depending on your preferences.
12. Hexagon RGB Lights
These Cololight Pro Hexagon RGB Lights are a fantastic addition or alternative to the Nanoleaf lights common in gamer rooms. They’re a lot smaller, but they’re also much cheaper and are an easy and affordable way to add more color to your desk.
13. Funko Pops
Funko Pops aren’t for everyone, but they’re a great choice if you love collecting gaming merchandise and displaying it as decor. They’re inexpensive and easy to showcase in a gaming-focused room, so they’re an easy way to add some flair to your room. Grab one of their collaborations with popular games like this Borderlands 3 Claptrap Funko Pop for instant gamer cred.
14. Playstation Gaming Lights
Adding lots of lights to your setup is a great way to build a modern gaming aesthetic, and this Paladone Playstation Icons Light accessory is a fantastic little gem that we had to include. We feel it’s a beautiful addition for any PlayStation fan and works in any gaming room or setup.
15. RGB Light Strips
Many users use RGB light strips like these DAYBETTER Led Strip Lights to create diffuse lighting. Hiding RGB strips behind objects such as your desktop or TV creates a softer, more atmospheric glow than a lightbulb’s bright and harsh light. If that’s not an option, you can also get a diffused ambient lighting look by running your RGB strips through a plastic diffuser channel instead.
A Classy Gaming Room With Zero RGB
The past couple of game room setups have been relatively modern, with RGB lighting and cool colors. But that’s not the only way to go: this elegant gaming room eschews RGB for a cozy, warm, and inviting look.
Featured Setup by Pneub
16. Industrial Wooden Table Lamp
While not quite the same as the ones in Pneub’s setup, this Industrial Wooden Table Lamp is a close alternative that costs a fraction of the price. The exposed bulb design gives it a steampunk vibe that helps it fit with the rest of the gaming room. Install a warm bulb for a perfectly relaxed atmosphere.
17. Autumn Canvas Painting
There are lots of autumn colors in the setup pictured above, which is part of why Pneub’s gaming room feels so classy. One of the best ways to bring that autumn feeling into your game room is with a painting like this Boieesen oil painting . It’s not the only option available, but we think it’s a great, affordable way of echoing warm colors from the rest of your furniture..
18. Leather Footrest
Most of us know the importance of a comfortable office or gaming chair. However, many tend to forget that a footrest can be just as crucial for resting your feet comfortably. A leather footrest like the one in the photo complements the classy theme of this setup perfectly. They can get pricey, but this Moroccan Ottoman Leather Pouffe from Etsy is an affordable option we’d highly recommend for a gaming room like this. Grab your controller, put your feet up, and play in style and comfort.
19. Wooden Pipe Desk
This Industrial Pipe Desk might seem like any ordinary bit of game room furniture at first glance, but its steel pipe legs and massive desk top make it unique. The polished wood helps to reflect some of the warm light from the nearby bulbs and provides plenty of space to put items on your desk, whether decorative (lights) or functional (studio monitor speakers).
20. Vintage Medallion Rug
The vintage medallion rug is perhaps the star of this gaming room, giving it an old yet sophisticated feel that sets it apart from the other options on this list. There’s really no wrong choice here; just pick what you feel fits your room the best or whatever design catches your eye. A rug from this SAFAVIEH Monaco Collection could be a great pick. It’ll really tie the entire room together.
A Neon Gaming Room Setup With Everything You Could Wish For
We’ve saved this bright and colorful neon gaming room for last because it’s an awesome gaming room setup that cranks everything up to eleven. There are a lot of custom-made and high-end items in this setup, so we’ve done our best to provide some accessible alternatives.
Featured Setup by chroman
21. Lounge Chair and Ottoman
The lounge chair and ottoman combo used here is the classic Eames Lounge Chair , which is prohibitively expensive. This Mcombo Swiveling Recliner Chair from Amazon is a much cheaper alternative that looks similar and would be a great fit for playing consoles like in this setup. But really, any lounge chair works as long as it’s comfortable. You can even replace it with a comfortable sofa if you regularly game with other people.
22. Floorstanding Loudspeakers
A cinematic gaming setup should be complemented by an amazing sound system. The large white loudspeakers that flank chroman’s television are the Sopra N°2 , a high-end consumer sound system. But at an eye-watering $13,999 for a pair, we thought it’d be best to include some more affordable alternatives.
If you’re interested in floorstanding loudspeakers, you’ll likely have to go for a passive pair like the KEF Q750 . You’ll need to pair them with a suitable amplifier, which is arguably a bit of a hassle, but we believe that this lets you really tweak your sound system to your preferences. This is a deep rabbit hole, so we recommend you take some time and research the best speaker and amplifier combos within your budget.
23. Custom NES Table
One of the coolest additions to this room is the custom NES coffee table, a fantastic homage to one of the most iconic game consoles ever made. Unfortunately, it’s a custom piece of furniture that you can’t just purchase from Amazon. This Custom Painted NES Nintendo Controller Coffee Table from Etsy is a close alternative, but you could also speak with a furniture designer or contractor if you want specific dimensions or a glass top like the one in the setup photo.
24. Soft White Rug
Keep your feet nice and warm with this SAFAVIEH California Premium Shag Collection Rug . It’s soft and big, and doubles as a comfortable mat for you to sit on as well. Rugs like this take a little bit of maintenance to keep them looking pristine, but it’s well worth it for the added comfort. A simple white rug like this is perfectly fine for a colorful room with lots of lights, but you could always go for something with a gaming design like this Controller Gamepad Carpet instead.
25. Home Theater Projector
In addition to the large television in this setup, chroman also has a high-end projector in their setup for cinematic gaming and movies. Most low- or mid-range projectors aren’t suited for gaming, so you’ll have to go for a higher-end unit if you want to emulate their setup. A high-end projector like this Sony VW325ES 4K HDR Home Theater Projector would be an excellent choice here. It offers excellent picture quality, framerate support, and brightness, and is similar to the projector that chroman uses. It’s not the only option available, though, so shop around for one that offers great picture quality and low response times.
26. Glass Cabinet
Glass cabinets are fantastic for displaying your gaming merchandise and prized possessions. In the pictures above, we can see that chroman has gaming equipment and a sweet pair of Nike MAGs, but you can show off whatever you feel fits your gaming room. This Modern 4-Tier Shelf Glass Display Cabinet is a great option, but any kind of glass cabinet will work.
27. Projector Screen
You need a flat, clean surface to project your games and movies onto, and the best way to get that is with a projector screen like this 135-inch Elite Screens Starling . Choosing a screen is a balancing act between your projector, room size, and how much space you have. So, unfortunately, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. It takes a bit of research, but the results will be well worth it.
28. Retro Console Setup
Chroman has a small retro gaming setup, complete with a CRT television, tucked away to the right of his primary TV. A retro corner like this can be a wonderful homage to your favorite video games and game consoles growing up. You can aim for authenticity by purchasing the original consoles from marketplaces like eBay or taking simpler routes via official mini versions such as the Nintendo NES Classic or a Raspberry Pi -based emulator setup.
29. Globe Mood Lamp
Chroman has a Mr.Go LED Glowing Ball Light behind his ultrawide monitor. This is a simple yet effective little accessory that adds to the bright neon aesthetic of the room. It’s an affordable item for virtually any setup, so we highly recommend it for a bit of mood lighting.
30. Acoustic Panels
You probably noticed those large panels on chroman’s walls, next to the television. These acoustic panels reduce reverberation and echo in your room, providing a cleaner, more enjoyable listening experience. These aren’t necessary, but they are helpful additions if you plan to use high-end speakers in a large or reverberant gaming room. Many options are available, but these BUBOS Art Acoustic Panels will do a perfect job while looking great.

Over to You!
Gaming rooms are fun, recreational spaces that you can decorate any way you want. One idea is to think of a theme and then decorate the room accordingly. After all, it’s really easy to buy gear and just throw it all together, but it really takes creativity and time (and a little inspiration from Displate) to take it a step further with design and personalization.
Some gamers believe that wall art for your gaming room is just as important as the games themselves. If you’re one of them, check out our ever-growing portfolio of officially licensed designs , including collections from your favorite video games such as Hearthstone , The Elder Scrolls , Doom , The Witcher , Overwatch , Fallout , World of Tanks , Cyberpunk , Assassin’s Creed , and more.
