I maybe misreading this, so I'm going to try clarify a couple of things.

1. Are you staying overnight in Dubai?

2. Are you staying overnight in Melbourne?

3. Are you staying overnight in Bangkok?

There is two ways to approach this. You go to a reputable high street agent and get them to book this. Alternately, you could book MAN-DBX-MEL, SYD-BKK-MAN, then book the domestic sectors separately. The reason why I suggest you doing this, is because as you are presumably overnighting in Melbourne at the start of your holiday, and in Sydney at the end of the Australian holiday, so there little to no advantage you booking this as one 'continual' ticket, as you don't have sectors within Australia that needs protected connections. In that regards, you could book your domestic sectors in Australia, all as one way, one by one.

Think I've confused myself with all this to be honest! So dubai and bangkok would be classed as stopovers to and from australia?

Google flights only came up with one answer for that routing, a Quantas/Emirates codeshare @ £1215 most dates and £3800 business ;-)

Why does it error out when booking a multi trip Qantas classic reward itinerary?

Tried booking with points Melb to lax, lax to Orlando return on multi trip so I can pick own flights. Using qantas and AA only. Error comes up. Qantas tell me no one can book multi trip using points. If I try first leg only Mel to lax and lax to Orlando it works. Rang qantas who advised the flights I want on either legs are not available even though I can book the first leg myself. Two questions what’s up with error on multi trip. Why does qantas say seats not available when I can book them using multi trip (1 leg only)

You need to cross check reward flight availability using the standard/normal website. This will show you which flights have rewards seats available - then use this knowledge to book the same legs using the multi-leg engine. The reason it fails is because it’s showing all possible flight combinations - even those with no reward flight seats available. It can be a fine art of patience and determination to navigate these issues - and it’s getting worse. The biggest pain is that the multi-leg process will let you go all the way through to the last step before it throws the error. Extremely frustrating. I have no idea why Qantas doesn’t fix this once and for all. It’s only happened post covid, that I’ve seen. All my reward bookings prior to covid always went through. However now it fails more often than not - I’ve booked 5 multi-leg trips for myself and family members since early 2022 and only 1 had no issues. Some even had up to 7 legs. Most times rechecking availability on the normal site allows me to see and work around flights - usually it’s only 1 leg of the itinerary that is the issue - and then the booking will go though successfully.

Thanks for the advice however I have checked all legs under the usual method and even though it says it’s available it will not work with multi trip. I also donot understand why the QF website says flights are available but when I ring they say there are no flights.

I have had this happen too… I then phone up Qantas and tell them I can see the flight right now. They do something their end and it allows the booking to then go through. Could be worth a try.

The multi city search is so buggy for me lately. I’ll try to look at, or change something, and then it’ll kick me back to the multi city details with errors and I give up.

I think they’re purposely making their redemption pages so buggy that people never use their points.

Inventory Requirements

Lowest Inventory, Same Cabin

If original inventory is not available rebook lowest inventory available in the same ticketed cabin. As a reminder, customers that do not hold a Basic Economy fare should never be booked into B inventory.

Basic Economy -

• Must be booked in B inventory only. If B inventory is not available, then an alternate flight must be selected. Advance Purchase and Ticket Change restrictions are waived.

Instant Upsell -

Refer to Travel Notice Policy - Travel Agency Guidelines for rebooking guidelines and Endorsement Box requirement when the customer purchased Instant Upsell (IU) directly with American on aa.com . IU PNRs contain the following SSRs:

• Travel has not commenced on the affected flight segment and the ticket has not been reissued by American Airlines

• More than one change allowed without an additional collection, including penalty or change fee within the Travel Notice dates
• Original issuing agency responsible for ticket reissue
• Ticket Revalidation not permitted
• The return travel must be booked in the original class of service (inventory)
• Refer to Extend Travel Rebooking after the Travel Event
• Basic Economy must be rebooked in the appropriate Basic Economy inventory
• Please ensure the above procedures are accurately followed to prevent debit memo issuance

Rebooking - Exception to Fare Rules

Exception to Fare Rules: All fare rules apply with the exception of the following:

• Advance Purchase requirement waived
• Minimum/Maximum Stay requirement waived

Extend Travel Rebooking Guidelines

If customers are unable to rebook within the New Travel Dates, may reschedule their reservation to/from the same city or alternate cities and reissue their ticket with the below guidelines:

• Cancel their itinerary and apply the value of the original ticket towards the purchase of a new ticket for travel commencing within 1 year from the date of original issuance
• Change fee only is waived as long as the original ticket is reissued within ticket validity and the impact dates are in accordance with those identified in the Travel Notice
• Basic Economy fares may only be used towards the purchase of other Basic Economy fares.
• Residual MCO's are not allowed when using the TNADVE waiver code for reissue.
• Extend Travel Rebooking does not apply to tickets in conjunction with Instant Upsell (IU)

Refund Policy Information

When the flight is cancelled or the length of delay is 91+ minutes , travel agents may refund ticket(s) through normal GDS/ARC/BSP processing. Refer to our Schedule Irregularity policy for delays 90 minutes or less.

• Refund To Original Form Of Payment - All penalties/fees waived
• Non-Refundable Fare
• Refundable Fare with cancellation Fee
• Basic Economy Fare
• Bulk/Opaque Fare

Note: If the ticket has been exchanged by American as an INVOL submit the refund request directly with American. Refer to American Airlines Refunds .

When the flight is not cancelled or the length of delay is 90 minutes or less , a refund does not apply:

• If customer elects to cancel their reservation and use the value of the ticket toward the purchase of a new ticket outside the Travel Notice dates; may use Extend Travel Rebooking or may hold ticket for future travel; all rules and restrictions apply.
• Travel must commence no later than one year from the date of original issuance.

En route/Diversion

• Connecting customers' en route to one of the above-listed destinations or whose flights are diverted will have the option to return to their original departure city and rebook travel to alternate future dates.
• Customers should work directly with the airport to obtain a boarding pass for return travel to their original departure city. If the customer wishes to rebook travel to alternate future dates, please contact American Airlines Reservations for assistance. Alternatively, they may receive a refund if re-accommodation options are unacceptable.
• If a ticket has already been reissued by American Airlines or the ticket is partially used, travel agents must submit the refund request online at https://prefunds.aa.com/refunds/
