Toyota Tundra Cruise Control Not Working (How to Fix)

My friend has been using Toyota Tundra for 2 years, and everything is going well. But last week, when I was going with a friend on a trip, he told me about his cruise control that was not working perfectly.

I tried as many troubleshooting as possible, but it was not even working. Then I researched for him to find the possible reasons and how I could fix these issues.

Obviously, you are also wondering about the possible fix but don’t worry because today, I will give you all the possible reasons and fixes.

Let’s dive into:

Table of Contents

How to Fix Toyota Tundra Cruise Control Not Working

Toyota Tundra Cruise Control Not Working

1. Wheel Speed Sensor

The cruise control is directly attached to the speed sensor, which transmits signals to the cruise control to fix the speed. Check that the speed sensor and the speedometer are working correctly.

If you notice that the speedometer is not working fine, it could be why your cruise control is not working.

To fix the problem, you should have to repair or replace the speed sensor, and I recommend you visit a Toyota-certified technician.

The speed sensor will cost you almost $290 to $350 , which may change with time.

2. Cruise Control Switch

Whenever you press the cruise button to set a specific speed, this button through the switch transmits the signals, but if your cruise control switch is faulty and not working properly, it could also create a problem.

To check the cruise control switch, press the on/off button at the cruise control switch, which is located on the right side behind the steering wheel. An indicator light in the panel blows when the cruise control is working fine. But if this sign is not turned on, your cruise control switch is not working.

This problem could be solved by the replacement of a cruise control switch. You can order it online, replace it at home, or visit a Toyota maint shop.

This switch may cost up to $250 to $370 , but this cost will fix your problem as well.

3. Brake Light Switch

There is also a possibility that your brake light switch is not working properly, and that’s why you are facing difficulties in using cruise control.

Whenever you press the brake padel, its light switch passes the signals to the cruise control to set your desired speed, but if this light switch does not work properly, it could stop the cruise control from working.

This issue could occur due to a blown fuse due to a short circuit for the reason of overheating.

To fix this problem, you should have to replace the brake light switch, and after this replacement, your cruise control will start working fine.

4. Faulty Fuse

There is a fuse under the steering wheel inside the fuse panel, and if it is blown for some reason, it could stop the cruise control from working.

This fuse could become faulty due to overheating the engine and a short circuit. This problem cannot be fixed until you replace the fuse. You can replace the fuse by yourself by opening and assembling the steering kit.

But if you didn’t know, you have to visit the Toyota care center to help you get out of this problem.

5. Engine Problem

If you are traveling a long distance and driving your Tundra without rest, it could be an engine problem. Your vehicle may be overheated, and the sensors are not properly.

This could also happen if you don’t maintain your engine regularly, like changing the oil, etc.

If everything is working well and your cruise control is not working, you should have to check your engine.

Check the engine compartment and rest in your Tundra; it will solve your problem if the engine creates some problems.

6. Throttle Position Sensor

When the throttle position fails to operate, it could also stop the cruise control from working. You have to identify that your throttle position sensor is working fine.

Your engine computer will produce black exhaust, which can be observed from the tailpipe. The throttle position sensor can also produce dead spots, and that problem can lead the cruise control to stop working.

To fix the problem, replace the sensor, which may cost up to $160 to $200 .

7. Check Tail Light

The tail light at the rear glass of the Tundra is parallel connected with the cruise control, and if this light is faulty, it could be a possible reason for your problem.

Check the light by pressing the brake padel of your vehicle, and if it is not blowing, then it means this light is the reason for the problem.

Replacement of the tail light will fix this problem.

8. Check Tundra

Your cruise control may not be working due to some bugs in the system. There is another way that could help in some of the cases.

Rotate your steering wheel end to the Right to turn the tyers and then left. After doing this, drive the Tundra in forward and reverse directions too.

This will fix minor bugs in the system, and if your wheel sensors are creating some problems, that will also be fixed.

9. Rain or Slippery Road

Driving any vehicle in rain or slippery roads is always difficult but in the case of Tundra, cruise control stop working in extremely rainy weather and slippery roads.

Suppose you are driving your Tundra on a rainy road and apply the brakes. This will sometime damage the brakes and tyers due to the slippery way.

The brakes and tyer sensors are directly connected to the cruise control, so it could stop working.

I recommend not using this feature on rainy days or wet roads.

Why is my Toyota cruise control not working?

This could be due to a faulty fuse, brake switch, speed sensors, or cruise control switch. Whatever the reason is, in your case, you have to find it and fix it.

Is there a fuse that controls the cruise control?

Yes, there is a fuse under the dashboard on the driver’s side in the fuse panel. If this fuse is faulty, then it will stop your cruise control from working.

Does the ABS sensor affect cruise control?

Yes, ABS sensors directly affect cruise control. There is one sensor in every wheel, and these sensors are directly connected to the cruise system and will stop this system from working.

5 Reasons Why Your Cruise Control Stopped Working

Magnus Sellén

  • Updated: March 15, 2023

Cruise Control Not Working

It would be difficult to find a vehicle on the road today without cruise control. This invaluable feature makes driving long distances easier but can also cause trouble when it malfunctions. Understanding the reasons your cruise control stopped working ensures that you can get the problem fixed quickly for a more enjoyable ride.

While this fault can cause issues with the cruise control system itself, there could also be an effect on the acceleration of your vehicle. That’s why you want to have it looked at as soon as you notice a problem. Let’s take a quick look at the reasons your cruise control may have stopped working.

Reasons Why Your Cruise Control Stopped Working

The most common reason a cruise control stops working is due to a blown fuse or a defective brake pedal switch . It can also be caused by issues with the throttle control system or the ABS. In older cruise control systems, it can be caused by a broken vacuum line.

Here is a more detailed list of the possible reasons your cruise control is not working:

1. Blown Fuse

broken fuse

All electrical systems in the vehicle are controlled by fuses. Your cruise control system is attached to a fuse that can blow if there is a short circuit or fault. Without a good fuse, the cruise control system can’t work at all.

Thankfully, it’s not difficult to find and replace a blown fuse. Look in the owner’s manual to find the fuse that corresponds with the cruise control technology.

2. Defective Brake Pedal Switch

push brake pedal

The brake pedal switch is responsible for turning the brake lights on and off based on the pedal position. Cruise control systems are designed to disengage whenever your brake pedal gets pressed.

Because the cruise control is wired into the brake pedal switch, any fault can cause it to stop working. When the brake pedal switch malfunctions, the car believes the brakes are engaged, causing the system to turn off automatically. Not only that, but your car’s brake light might also be stuck on, leaving confused drivers in your wake.

3. Malfunctioning Speed Sensor

abs sensor close

Speed sensors are located on every wheel or differential. The purpose of these sensors is to monitor the speed of the wheels to determine if traction control is needed.

The speed sensors are also part of the cruise control system. When a sensor fails, the cruise control can stop working and the speedometer might act strange as well.

If there is an issue with a speed sensor, it will often show with an ABS warning light or a check engine light on the dashboard.

4. Electrical Issues

cruise control buttons

The cruise control system is electronic, with many components working together to make the system operate. If the cruise control fails to work, you want to check the wiring harness and associated connectors for a fault.

You also need to ensure that the voltage source is supplying enough power to the system. Even the smallest fault can cause defects with the cruise control. In many cases, there can be an issue with the cruise control lever or buttons causing the cruise control to not engage.

If your cruise control buttons are located on the steering wheel it could also be caused by a bad clock spring, which is located behind the steering wheel.

Check the system with an OBD2 scanner to look for any trouble codes related to the cruise control.

5. Damaged Vacuum Actuator, Hoses or Cable (Older cruise control)

If you drive an older vehicle with cruise control, you might have an issue with the vacuum actuator or the cable that connects to the throttle. If there has been damage done to the vacuum hoses or the actuator, the cruise control will stop working altogether.

Additionally, the cable linking the actuator to the throttle must be in good shape. If it has been broken, the cruise control will fail.

What is Cruise Control?

Cruise control is a feature that is used when you are traveling at a consistent speed. Cruise control was first introduced for automobiles in the 1950s. However, it took many years before it became a staple in the modern vehicle.

This electrical system allows you to set a predetermined speed and take your foot off of the gas pedal. If you are on a long drive, there is less fatigue because you don’t have to try to maintain your speed. Cruise control can also benefit fuel economy because the vehicle uses less fuel when traveling steadily.

In newer cars, you might be able to find adaptive cruise control , which is a smart technology. Adaptive cruise control allows you to travel at a predetermined speed, but it also helps to maintain a safe distance from the vehicles in front of you with the help of sensors. With conventional cruise control, you need to take over when the car in front of you slows down, but that’s not the case with adaptive cruise control.

There are also vehicles nowadays with not only cruise control, but fully self-driving vehicles . We will most likely see much more of this in the future.

Cruise Control Repair Cost

The cost to repair your cruise control system depends on what caused it to fail. If you need to replace a cruise control or brake switch, you might spend between $125 and $350, including parts and labor. However, the cost to change a fuse is only a few dollars and you can perform the replacement yourself in just a matter of seconds.

On the other hand, when something major fails, such as the actuator, you could be looking at a much higher repair bill. In some vehicles, the cost to replace a cruise control actuator can cost more than $700. These costs rise if you drive a luxury vehicle or one that is difficult to get parts for.

It might not seem immediately important for you to fix the broken cruise control, but this defective system can affect other performance aspects. You could start to notice issues with acceleration or have trouble with the speedometer. To play it safe, it’s always best to have the cruise control repaired as soon as you notice a problem.

Is there a fuse for the cruise control?

Yes. If the cruise control is installed from the factory, you should check your car’s owner’s manual for the fuse location. If it’s an aftermarket cruise control, you’ll need to follow the wires to find the fuse.

Does the brake switch affect the cruise control system?

Yes. The brake switch affects the cruise control system. The brake switch sends a signal to the cruise control system to let it know when the brakes are being applied for the engine to know when it should stop accelerating.

Will the cruise control work if the check engine light is on?

The cruise control function will be disabled when the check engine light is on in most car models, even if the cause of the check engine light is not the cruise control itself. This is mainly due to safety reasons.

Can a vacuum leak affect cruise control?

Older vehicles use vacuum to control the throttle for the cruise control, and in this case a vacuum leak can heavily affect the cruise control. However, modern cruise controls are fully electric and in most cases will not be affected by a vacuum leak if the check engine light is not illuminated.

Although many people may think that the cruise control system is unimportant and not worth spending money to repair, the problem can be caused by a faulty part that will affect the engine’s performance or durability. Therefore, it is best not to ignore the problem if your cruise control is not working without first diagnosing the car properly.

If your cruise control still isn’t working after trying all the tips in this article, it’s probably time to take it in for a professional opinion from a mechanic. It may be a more serious problem that requires replacement parts or repairs. In the meantime, drive safe and enjoy the open road!

cruise control not working

this has happened twice now. driving along - go to turn on the cruise control & nothing - the light is there but you can't set it or anything. stop, turn off the truck, restart & it work just fine - any ideas? Has this happened to anybody else?

2008 toyota tundra cruise control not working

My wife swears this has happened to her, it happened about a week after we bought our 02 Limited, same thing pulled over, shut it off then it worked. We've owned it for a few months now and I just brushed it off, hoping she didn't know what she was doing but who knows the problem may resurface. If you ever figure it out let me know, I think next time I take it to the dealer I'm going to complain about it, see if there's a TSB or known fix/problem.

Toyota cruise controls are kind of funny if a brake light is out. I would first check to see if all your brake lights are functioning. If that isn't the problem, take a look at this web page Toyota Pickup Cruise Control . It will help you find which circuit is acting up, but is no help for fixing the problem.

Cruise Control Troubleshooting

  • Add to quote

Hello, I am a new member and just bought a used 2004 Corolla LE. The car works great except for the Cruise. It will not set. Is there a troubleshooting guide someone may have put together on the forum? I searched w/o any luck. If not where do I start? Thanks !! Wayne

When you say it does not set, do you mean the cruise shuts off, and the light goes out, or it does not keep the speed? Are you auto or manual? Check the actuator under the hood and clean the connections, also check fuses, the 3 brake lights, and brake fluid. Do you have any check engine lights on? Also, check a switch up on the break pedal that disables the cruise control, maybe that switch is unplugged or bent.

i am having the same problem for almost 2 years. i am in a manual 03 S. mine turns on and the light comes on but wont set. i checked all the connections (that i believe of) and i cant get it to work.

With the manual, you cannot have any pressure at all when you try to set the cruise. Try this it is worth a shot, hold the back of the clutch pedal with your foot then try to set the cruise. Any normal road vibration it will deactivate the cruise, for some reason, the clutch and CC is really sensitive. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b40/webby242424/fuselocations.jpg Check 19, 22, 29. I doubt that they are bad, but it will help to eliminate them. If you cannot find a problem, it is likely the clutch switch or the brake switch for the CC. Look at the top of the clutch and brake pedals for the switch, and see if anything is broken/loose. Just in case no one knows how to use CC: Press button in on stalk - observe green light. Tap stalk down to set speed. Tap up or down to adjust set speed. Pull stalk toward you to cancel. Must be about 25 mph to work.

Thanks for the suggestions. The car has an auto trans. Also I do not have any check engine light on. Let me clarify - I am not even able to get the green light to come on. Tonight I will do the following and let you know the results: Check the wiring connections at the cruise module, check the switch and connections on the brake pedal, check the fuses, 3rd brake light, fluid level

Let us know, do you hear a click when you press the cruise button? If all of the stuff you checked is ok, it could be something as simple as the button.

Just a suggestion, but maybe it is the CC control itself. They are very easy to change, and cost about $55, if you buy it somewhere other that from Toyota. If I recall correctly, it has an AC Delco part number. (I recently added CC to my 07 CE)

For the owners of 2003-2004 cars, you should have a cruise control cable that connects to the throttle body. It's possible that the cable has broken, or somehow become disconnected from the throttle body (or cruise module). 2005-2008 cars don't have that -- the throttle is Drive-By-Wire (DBW), so there are no cables, and the ECU operates the cruise control through the DBW system.

i checked all the fuses and they are fine. brake fluid is good also. Does anyone know where the cruise control actuator is located?

if you just bought the car recently I am sure you have warrnaty on it, unless u bought it privately save urself the money and headaches and take it back to where u got it from and tell them to fix it I am sure you and less than 2 weeks grace period

Last night I did the following: Mechanically checked the brake pedal switch to see if it was operating properly, checked the third brake light checked all of the wiring harness at the CC Module checked brake fluid. pulled the pedal back while driving ( above 25 MPH) and tried to get the CC green light to come on. - still no good. I did not check the fuses - which one is for the cruise? Wayne

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b4...elocations.jpg Check 19, 22, 29.

Toyota Tundra Cruise Control Not Working

Toyota Tundra is a wide truck having a luxurious feature of cruise control by which you can set the speed of your vehicle for safe driving.

Toyota Tundra cruise control stops working due to a defective cruise control switch, faulty brake light switch, and a blown fuse. In addition, broken warning lights, low-quality speed sensors, and damaged connectors also cause this problem.

This system integrates speed management into accident prevention systems by including laser with radar technology.

Many people complain that they can not adjust the speed of their pickup and the main reason is the damaged parts.

Defective Cruise Control Switch

The Cruise control switch helps you to set the speed of your truck. It provides information like – SET, + RES, on-off for decreasing and increasing the acceleration of a vehicle.

The information from the switch goes to its module and the engine control unit to sustain the speed.

Faulty connections in the switch do not transfer the information to the module and the engine control unit, and the system will not work correctly.

You should check that connections are in their proper positions to maintain the speed of the pickup.

You should also check the socket and the wires to connect them properly to resolve this issue.

Faulty Brake Light Switch

When you press the brake pedal, its system detects the brake light switch to set the desired speed.

If the brake light switch is not detected, this switch will stop working.

It is due to the blown fuse due to high voltage current and short circuits caused by over-heating.

The other issues are a burned-out light bulb, broken switch, and inferior quality switches that do not last for a longer time.

Replace the fuse and adjust the current between the circuits to prevent the search for a power supply.

You should also change the burned-out bulb or broken switch instantaneously so that you can drive your Tundra at your desired speed on its own.

In Toyota Tundra, the fuse in cruise control is located below the steering wheel in the fuse panel.

A fuse can be damaged due to overheating in the engine and short circuits.

If its fuse is blown out, then the switch will stop working until a new one replaces it. This happened to my last year when I was driving my truck.

It can be challenging to fix this issue, so it is better to replace the blown fuse as soon as possible to set your vehicle’s speed.

Problems in Engine

If there is a problem in transmission or engine, then a check warning light comes on, symbolizing that your engine is having some trouble.

After the engine control unit detects the issue in the engine of your pickup truck, its system will be deactivated instantaneously as a safety measure.

Due to a faulty engine, you cannot set the acceleration speed by pushing a switch that is present on the side of the steering.

A Common fault is overheating, caused by the blown gasket and skipping proper maintenance like ignoring oil changes.

Check the engine compartment before driving that the switch is properly working and maintain the engine of your Toyota Tundra.

I have seen many people go through this issue due to the lack of knowledge, and I have added this easy solution to fix the problem.

Faulty speed sensors

Like all other vehicles, speed sensors are also a part of Toyota’s pickup for transmission of speed statistics.

If these do not provide details about the speed, the system will automatically be out of functioning and can be deactivated.

Speed sensors may be faulty due to their inferior quality, an internal electrical fault, and poor truck maintenance.

Faulty speedometer readings and shortage of torque converter clutch exercise are also the causes of defective speed sensors.

It is better to replace the old speed sensors with new ones of good quality. You can also repair the faulty sensors if they are not damaged completely, but it can be a bit tricky most of the time.

You can also fix this problem by regular maintenance of the vehicle, and also completion of torque converter exercise will be helpful in this case.

Damaged connectors and wiring harnesses

Working of the cruise control is directly related to regular checking of connectors and wiring harnesses.

There is a spiral cable inside the steering wheel, any problem such as breakage will lead to an open circuit, and it will not work correctly.

Due to poorly insulated wirings, worn-out wires, these electrical components will not function properly, and as a result, they will stop working.

Repairing electrical components or replacing damaged wires with well-insulated wires can make it functional.

I suggest accessing all the parts before you plan to replace or modify them.

Bad vacuum actuator

This is a process to create artificial vacuum pressure for the movement of a piston in automobile engines of modern times.

A bad vacuum actuator results in cruise control failure of your pickup, which is one of the main reasons that lead to this issue.

There are many methods to fix the problem, but it is better to add a new part.

Replacement of the non-functional vacuum actuator with a fully active one will allow you to use the truck’s feature.

Rainstorms and wet roads

Driving a truck in bad weather conditions is always challenging.

You should not use this feature during rainstorms and on wet floors because it can cause hydroplaning due to slipperiness.

If you press the brakes, then tires and brakes are badly affected as these are directly connected to the cruise control system; any defect in these can cause a problem.

It is better to drive slow on wet roads without using frequent brakes.

Cruise Control problems of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Six problems related to cruise control have been reported for the 2008 Toyota Tundra. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2008 Toyota Tundra based on all problems reported for the 2008 Tundra.

1 Cruise Control problem

Toyota dealership inspection reported on 10/05/16 that actuator assembly failed. Mileage 122,482. Disabiling, abs brake, speedometer, odometer, cruise control, and displaying engine check lights for abs. This occurred one day after replacing water pump, water hoses, serpentine belt, and fluids associated with service. Cost estimate $2642. 78. Started engine and engine indicator lights showed engine check and abs malfunction started moving and speedometer cruise control inop along with odometer.

2 Cruise Control problem

Cruise control randomly stops working. Works perfectly for a few days then quits. Sometimes the cruise light is illuminated but the cruise control still does not function. The issue seems to be related to the steering column. Sometimes when the steering wheel is turned lock to lock the cruise control then operates normally. Local mechanic says this may be the "clock gear" which is very expensive to replace.

3 Cruise Control problem

The contact owns 2008 Toyota Tundra. While driving 65 mph utilizing the cruise control, he noticed that the vehicle was traveling at speeds greater than what was exhibited on the speedometer. Prior to the recent failure the contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer where repairs were made under NHTSA campaign id numbers 09v388000 and 10v017000, vehicle speed control:accelerator pedal. The dealer could not duplicate the failure. The current and failure mileages were 11000.

4 Cruise Control problem

Uncontrollable acceleration to 100+ mph. Will not slow or stop even while pressing brake with both feet. Continues to accelerate. Cruise control will not override acceleration when brake is applied. Had to put in neutral, and turn the key while hitting bar ditch, nearly flipping truck and colliding with two 18 wheelers.

5 Cruise Control problem

Truck was in cruise control. Accelerated to pass slower traffic. Let off throttle. Truck went to full throttle. Could not get truck to decelerate. Had to stand on brakes to bring to a stop. Truck needs new rotors and pads Toyota will not help. Occurred once. The consumer stated the floor mat and gas pedal can interact. When the all weathr mat is not clipped in place, and is moved under the gas pedal, it will become fully depressed. The mat can trap the pedal. Updated 11/13/09 updated 03/29/10.

6 Cruise Control problem

I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra 4wd, large v8 . While applying the brake I have had three instances were the vehicle suddenly accelerated. Each time this occurred at a low speed[2-6mph]. ] further pressure on the brake stopped the vehicle. There was no way both pedals were pressed. I find the accelerator to be very touchy. I find myself having to engage the auto differential lock to control my acceleration from a stopped position. If I don't the accelerator causes the vehicle to spin the tires. I can't help feeling this is related to the cruise control components. Thanks for your time.

2014 tundra cruise control issue

  • Add to quote

Hi, i'm new here, and i'm having a frustrating issue with the cruise control on my 2014 tundra. After setting the cruise at highway speeds, when i approach a hill, or a strong headwind it disengages the cruise control! This never happened on my 2011 tundra. Any help is appreciated.

2008 toyota tundra cruise control not working

Doesn't sound right to me. I would get it to the dealer and get it checked out

2008 toyota tundra cruise control not working

You're probably experiencing one of the following, from what you are describing with larger hills and strong headwind. This is described in the manual: ■Automatic cruise control cancelation Cruise control will stop maintaining the vehicle speed in any of the following situations. ●Actual vehicle speed falls more than approximately 10 mph (16 km/h) below the preset vehicle speed. At this time, the memorized set speed is not retained. ●Actual vehicle speed is below approximately 25 mph (40 km/h). ●VSC is activated. ●4WD models: The operation cannot be switched for 5 seconds or more after operating the front-wheel drive control switch.

2008 toyota tundra cruise control not working

Sounds like pretty much every vehicle out there that has cruise control LOL.

2008 toyota tundra cruise control not working

How steep are these grades? I've never had CC kick off on my Tundra, but I've had CC disengage on other vehicles I've owned. Going up steeper hills (>5-6% grades) I've had CC kick off after CC tried downshifting one gear and failed to keep the set speed. I've also had CC kick off while going over a bumpy section of road (train tracks, potholes, etc.) Even though it seems annoying, it's a safety "feature". CC is meant to disengage if you come across unexpected terrain.

2008 toyota tundra cruise control not working

bring it to the dealer... def not right

2008 toyota tundra cruise control not working

Doesn't sound right. Mine has kicked down two gears, so I know it'll rev right up if it needs to.

Thank you guys, i have taken it to the dealer, and they quoted me the same thing that aztundra25 stated. The main technician at my local dealer contacted the regional tech support guy, and he said that it's just part of the new adaptive cruise control. I'm driving the same highways that i drove in my 2011 tundra, and it never kicked the cruies control off. The strange thing is that it does downshift, but then it will only rev up so high before it gives up, and shuts the cruise off. I wish i would have known this before buying it. After being a loyal tundra owner, i'm about to give up if i can't get it to behave normally. Maybe a raptor instead? Ugh.

2008 toyota tundra cruise control not working

I have to check that out in my truck. I usually cancel my c.c. when I start elevating.

The only issue I have with cruise control is it drops gears which is really annoying .. Is there some sort of fix for this ??

2008 toyota tundra cruise control not working

This is a common problem in the FJ world. The cruise control is really sensitive. which means, if you drop below the exact speed its set for, it will begin compensating, then continue to compensate with gears, if it continues to call for it. My theory, especially with the FJ was that the powerplant just could not keep up with the demand. It's worse when your lifted, bigger tires, more weight etc. My Tundra doesn't shift down as much, because having the supercharger, keeps the truck at a more steady speed, even with the mods. When I start to pull hills, even with the charger, I turn the cruise off and feather into the throttle, to try and keep it at a maintained speed. I think if the of control had a small percentage leeway, it would not be shifting down as much. in some ways , the old mechanical cruise control, that would keep you plus, or minus, the speed you set it at, probably works a little better, for not being so gear change happy

Especially on windy days. Wind starts to slow you down so it's constantly shifting really bugs the crap outta me. Regardless love my truck .

If you have a Tow/Haul mode you could try using that even though you are not towing. It is designed to prevent frequent shifting.

I dunno, so far the cruise in my 14 has been perfect, thousands of miles with cruise on. Good luck Op

2008 toyota tundra cruise control not working

i have never experienced this problem but i always help the cruise when i know a big hill is coming.why wait for the truck to kickdown and rev up so high. normally all i needto do to help it out is turn tow mode on or give it a bit of gas.

...sorry to dig up an old thread , but... Count me as somebody supremely disappointed in this cruise control cancelling "feature". I've towed a lot of miles, with a lot of different trucks and never had a cruise control cancel because the engine, transmission or the programming of either couldn't keep up. I thought it must be malfunctioning until I found this thread. Now I think it's damn near a deal breaker. I don't have any desire to cover big mileage without cruise control.

Truck is a 5.7. My cruise was kicking off with a small load - boat/trailer that weighs 5k Lbs. on mostly level ground, trying to go 70 MPH.
