Transportation from Cannes to Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (NCE) in France

Getting to Cannes from Aéroport Nice-Côte d’Azur is possible by helicopter, bus, train, and airport shuttle vans, cars, or limousines.

Cannes Beach is easily reached on public transportation from Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (NCE)

Cannes may easily be reached from Nice-Côte d’Azur Airport (NCE) on public transportation or pre-reserved cars and shuttle van services. Helicopters are the fastest way to one of the most glamorous resorts on the French Riviera but most solo travelers will find express buses (81, formerly 210) more affordable. Trains offer a reasonable alternative while regular municipal and inter-city buses are cheap but slow. Taxis are available but a pre-booked limousine or airport van shuttle service may be cheaper with a guaranteed price and assured availability.

By car, traveling time is around half an hour if using the toll highway. Expect to pay around €80 for a pre-booked car and €150 for a minivan — taxis charge according to the meter.  Welcome gives online quotations for private airport transfers without first requiring personal details or flight numbers.

By Zou! Express Bus 81 (previously 210) from Cannes to Nice-Côte d’Azur Airport

Zou! Airport Express Bus 81 (previously 210) is often the best public transportation choice for traveling between Nice Airport and Cannes. The express bus connects Airport Terminal 2 and Cannes directly and via the highway so traffic is less of a concern.

Express Bus 81 generally runs every 45 minutes with the first (last) departure from Cannes at 7:00 (19:45) and first (last) departure from the airport at 8:00 (22:00). Traveling time is around 45 minutes.

Express bus 81 departs from Terminal 2 (use the free tram or free navette shuttle buses from Terminal 1 — walking is not an option). In Cannes, the bus stops at Le Cannet (Paul Doumer / Place Benidorm) and at the Gare SNCF (station).

Express buses have a special price structure and not the €2.60 standard ticket on ZOU! buses in the Alpes-Maritim département. The new simplified bus price system from early 2023 ended many discount fares. The basic single one-way ticket is €19. Discounted tickets for small groups, e.g. €39.90 for a group of 3 or €76 for 8 are only sold at agencies (Safebag shops at the airport) or on the bus. (Add 40c to any ticket bought on the bus. A ten-trip card is good value at €133 but may only be used by one person at a time. Children 4 to 11 pay half fare, and under 4 travel for free.

Tickets may be bought from Safebag Aéroport shop (Terminal 1: Gate A0 and Terminal 2: between gates A1 and A2) or directly from the driver (with a small surcharge), or  online (single tickets only). The ticket is valid for a particular day and does not guarantee a place on a specific bus.

By Train from Cannes to Nice-Côte d’Azur Airport on the French Riviera

Fort Carré in Antibes seen from a TER Train

Trains offer a reasonable alternative to using express buses from Cannes to Nice-Côte d’Azur Airport. Trains are cheaper but as there is no train station directly at the airport, a bit of hassle is added, especially if traveling with luggage.

Nice-Saint Augustin is the closest train station to the airport. Use Tram 2 to Grand Arénas — the first tram stop after the airport. Travel is free on the tram from any airport terminal to Grand Arénas, which is a block from the station. See Traveling to Nice-Côte d’Azur Airport by Train for details.

Train travel from Cannes to Nice-Saint Augustin on TER trains takes only 36 minutes and costs around €7 (standard, second class one-way ticket).

Trainline is simpler to use than the official websites of French Railways — SNCF-connect and  RailEurope .

By Bus 620 (ex-200) from Cannes to Nice-Côte d’Azur Airport

Ligne d'Azur bus in Cannes from azur airport

The budget alternative for the cheapest travel between Cannes and Nice-Côte d’Azur Airport is bus 620 operated by Zou! (previously bus 200 by Lignes d’Azur) which connects Cannes and Park Phoenix in Nice generally twice per hour.

Bus 620 bus does not stop at the airport terminals itself. When traveling to Cannes, bus 620 stops at the Aéroport/ Promenade on the main street outside the airport. When traveling to Nice, bus 620 does not stop at the airport — use tram 2 from Parc Phoenix.

Bus 620 is a standard municipal bus with no special space for luggage. At busy times, the bus gets full fast and won’t pick up additional passengers. At times it may be full with travelers to Nice even before it reaches the airport — it may be sensible to use tram 2 to Parc Phoenix, which is the terminal for bus 620.

Traveling time very much depends on traffic. Early morning or late night it can be as fast as an hour but at peak traffic, it can take closer to two hours.

Bus 620 runs mostly three times per hour on Sundays and every fifteen minutes on weekdays and Saturdays. First buses from Nice city pass by the airport around 6:10 (7:00 on Sunday).

The standard fare from early 2023 is €2.50 (€2.90 if bought on the bus). A second piece of hand luggage adds €1 and a suitcase incurs a hefty €5 charge, which makes the train the cheaper (and faster) option.

By Helicopter to Cannes from Nice-Côte d’Azur Airport in France

Helicopters allow well-heeled travelers to whisk between fashionable Cannes and Nice-Côte d’Azur Airport in seven minutes. Several companies offer scheduled helicopter flights between Cannes Airport (CEQ) and Nice Airport (NCE) with further flights available to Saint Tropez and Monaco .

Prices for shared scheduled helicopter transfers are around €120 per person. A private helicopter with up to six seats is around €400 to Cannes Airport (just outside town) and around €500 to arrive at Cannes Heliport closer to the town center.

The fares usually include transportation from the heliport or Cannes Airport to the final destination.

From Nice airport to Cannes

Summer is here and it’s time to live it up in the dazzling city of Cannes. Known to host many a celebrity for their breakaway in the sun…and if it’s good enough for them, well then it’s good enough for you!

The closest airport to Cannes is Nice Cote d’Azur Airport which is around 27km away from the centre of the city. As Nice Airport is very busy (especially in the summer) and serves pretty much the whole of the French Riviera, there are many options for transfers to and from the airport.

Depending on your budget, and of course, you’ve preferred mode of transport, there’s something to suit everyone. One thing we’d recommend before flying over is deciding your mode of transportation to ensure you have a smooth and enjoyable experience at the airport.

Table of Contents

– Train –

One of the most cost-effective and reliable modes of public transport on the French Riviera is the train. The airport is not served by a specific train station but

Nice St Augustin Station is only a 10-minute walk away and has frequent, direct trains straight to Cannes.

The train will only set you back around 6€ for a one-way ticket. It’ll be a comfortable trip, as trains in France are quite spacious and you’re likely to get a seat due to the carriages being double deckers. Trains are fast, cheap and less hassle than buses.

Remember to have changed to purchase the bus ticket as you board the bus if this isn’t an option, you can also buy your ticket from either airport terminal.

from nice airport to cannes train

– Bus –

There are two bus options to get you from Nice airport to Cannes, and the best is the Express Bus Service bus no. 210. Although more expensive, it’s a much faster journey so doesn’t eat into your precious holiday time. Let’s get you to your accommodation and in the pool as soon as possible!

The public bus number 200 is much slower as there are many more stops in between Nice and Cannes. The journey can take up to 90-minutes! After a flight, this is probably the last thing you’d want to do, especially in the heat (although buses are air-conditioned).

There is a bus station at both terminals (for the Express Bus), so unlike the train, there’s no need to walk anywhere to catch either bus. This can be quite tempting for the travellers amongst us that aren’t so keen on walking.

A little pricier than the train, and less likely to get a seat, so perhaps not the top budget option. The Express Bus Service will cost 22€ pp, under 26’s can travel for 16.50€ and under 12’s pay only 5€. Tickets can be purchased from the bus ticket windows directly from the driver, or online.

For the public bus, the price is 1.50€, and these tickets can be purchased on the bus from the driver. Buy from the ticket window if you want a booklet of a few passes. You will need to walk to the specified bus stop which is just outside the airport to catch this bus.

A taxi from the Nice airport to Cannes will cost a fixed rate of 80€ for up to 4 people (including luggage) and takes approx 30 minutes. Yes, it’s much more expensive but at least it’s a door to door service and you’ll arrive at your Cannes home feeling refreshed for the exciting holiday ready.

Paying in cash is much appreciated by the driver, but most taxis have card machines as not everyone carries that much cash. Taxis wait outside both terminals, so you’ll be sure to find one straight away. It’s always best to confirm the price before you leave the airport, to prevent a little surprise when you arrive at your accommodation.

– UBER –

Another option is Uber. Both Nice and Cannes are served by the Uber app, providing both tourists and locals a cheaper and more comfortable option for transport in either city. Being almost half the price, you can expect to pay around 55€ for an Uber from the airport to Cannes. Being requested at the destination, you’re unable to pre-book the taxi but it’s almost certain an Uber will be ready and waiting to take you all the way to Cannes.

So, as you can see, Nice Airport is very well connected with many options to get you on your way to party it up in the city of Cannes. All modes of transport are easy and hassle-free, supplying complete relaxation as soon as you step off the plane.

Best ways to get from Nice to Cannes

Here are the best ways of getting to Cannes from Nice.

You might also enjoy our post Nice vs Cannes: Which is Better to Visit? , where we compare the two cities.

1) By train

Taking the train is by far the easieast and most convenient way to get from Nice to Cannes. The journey takes just 30 minutes and departs every half hour or hour depending on the time of day. The cost per ticket is around 10€ each way, making it a great value for the convenience.

To take the train from Nice to Cannes, head to the Gare SNCF Nice-Ville station, which is located just outside of the city center. From there, you can buy tickets and board the train to Cannes.

If you want, you can also buy the tickets ahead of time in Omio.

The other main option for getting from Nice to Cannes is by bus.

The most common line is the public bus line 200. It departs from Nice Airport and goes all the way to Cannes after first stopping in Antibes.

The journey takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes, depending on traffic. You can buy tickets online or at a ticket vending machine at the bus station for around 1,50€ one way.

Even though the price is a bargain, personally, I find the bus to be less convenient than taking the train as it is slower and more prone to traffic delays.

If you want to take a scenic drive along the coastline, renting a car is another way to get from Nice to Cannes. The drive takes around 45 minutes without traffic.

You’ll need to make sure you have an international driver’s license or equivalent, and it’s also recommended to get car insurance when renting a car.

You can rent a car either at the Nice Airport or in town through rental companies such as Avis, Hertz, or Europcar.

🥐 My Nice Restaurant Guide is now out!

Are you a foodie? Then the Nice Food Guide is definitely for you.

This ebook contains a list of the 30 best restaurants in Nice (in the categories of seafood, lunch, fine dining, cafés, Niçoise specialties, and brunch) and is on sale for only €6.90.

4) By Taxi or Ride-sharing Service

Finally, you can take a taxi from Nice to Cannes. The approximate cost for the journey would be around 100€ depending on traffic conditions. I usually only take this option if I need to get somewhere quickly, as it is much more expensive than taking the train or bus.

Since Uber came to France, you can now also take an UberX or other ridesharing service from Nice to Cannes. This tends to be cheaper than taking a taxi, while still being more expensive than the train or bus.
