When it comes to running a business, there are various ways to expand the brand and increase the revenue. One of the popular ways is to create a sister company. A sister company is a subsidiary or a separate company that shares the same ownership as the parent company but operates under a different name, brand, or industry.

In this article, we will delve deeper into what sister companies are, their benefits, types, and FAQs related to sister companies.

Creating a sister company can yield numerous benefits for the parent company. Here are some of the advantages of having a sister company:

  • Brand expansion: A sister company can help the parent company expand its brand into new industries or markets. For instance, a software development company can create a sister company that specializes in website design. This helps to increase brand recognition and establish a more prominent presence in different fields.
  • Reduced risk: A sister company can help the parent company reduce its risk by diversifying its portfolio. This way, if one company fails or faces a setback, the other remains unaffected, thus ensuring the stability of the parent company.
  • Increased revenue: The creation of a sister company can bring in additional revenue streams for the parent company. This can help it to grow and expand its operations without compromising its core business.
  • Separate liability: A sister company is a separate entity from its parent company. Therefore, in the case of legal issues, each company’s liability is separate, and the parent company will not be held responsible for the sister company’s debts or legal disputes.

There are various types of sister companies, each unique in its way. Here are some of the common types of sister companies:

  • Parallel sister company: A parallel sister company has the same business model and target market as the parent company. The only difference is that it operates under a different name and brand. For example, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has various parallel sister companies that specialize in different vehicles, such as automobiles, motorcycles, and power products.
  • Vertical sister company: A vertical sister company specializes in a specific part of the supply chain of the parent company. It may either be an upstream (supplies raw materials), midstream (manufactures and assembles products), or downstream (distributes products to the end-users) sister company. An example is the Coca-Cola Company, which has vertical sister companies that specialize in bottling, packaging, and distribution.
  • Joint venture: A joint venture is a sister company where two companies from different industries come together to create a new business venture. The companies share the ownership, risk, and reward equally. For example, Sony and Ericsson created a joint venture company named Sony Ericsson to specialize in mobile phones.

Frequently Asked Questions about Sister Companies

A subsidiary company is a legally independent company, whereas a sister company is a separate entity that shares common ownership with the parent company. Unlike a subsidiary company, a sister company is not necessarily a legally independent entity, and it can either operate in the same industry as its parent company or in a different one.

A sister company can serve various purposes, such as expanding the brand, reducing risk, adding new revenue streams, and tapping into new markets. It allows the parent company to diversify its business portfolio, improve its brand recognition, and establish a stronger presence in various industries.

Creating a sister company is often a better option than expanding the parent company because it reduces the risk of getting into unfamiliar territory, provides a fresh start away from the established brand, and helps to build and strengthen new branches. Additionally, a sister company can specialize in its industry and focus on the area that the parent company might not have expertise in.

The risks associated with creating a sister company include the possibility of disrupting the existing operations of the parent company, creating more bureaucracy, and diluting the parent company’s brand. Additionally, if the sister company fails, it can affect the parent company’s reputation or, in extreme cases, financial stability.

To establish a sister company, the parent company must decide on its purpose, industry, and brand identity. It should then create a separate business plan, secure funding if necessary, and legally register the sister company as a separate entity. Next, the parent company must create a separate team and infrastructure for the sister company and maintain proper communication and management between the two companies.

The most important factor to consider when creating a sister company is the compatibility between the parent company and the sister company. The sister company should share the vision, values, and goals of the parent company to ensure a smooth and successful collaboration.

When selecting a name for a sister company, it is essential to consider the target market, industry, and purpose of the sister company. The name should resonate with the audience and distinguish the sister company from the parent company. It should also be distinctive and easy to remember.

Yes, sister companies file separate tax returns because they are separate legal entities. Each company has its own assets, liabilities, income, and expenses. Therefore, the parent company and the sister company will have to file separate tax returns for their respective businesses.

The parent company can finance the sister company, but it can also secure funding by applying for loans, selling shares, or creating joint venture partnerships. It is essential to have a solid business plan outlining the sister company’s financial requirements, growth projections, and revenue streams to secure funding efficiently.

Yes, sister companies can have different logos. A sister company can have its own brand identity, including its name, logo, and color scheme that distinguish it from the parent company.

Yes, sister companies can have different management teams. Each company operates independently, and it is crucial to have a separate management team, infrastructure, and operations to avoid conflating both companies’ interests.

If a sister company goes bankrupt, it will affect the parent company’s reputation and financial stability. However, the parent company and the sister company are separate legal entities, and the parent company will not be held responsible for the debts or legal disputes of the sister company. The sister company may also be dissolved or cease operations.

Sister companies can share resources if it is advantageous to both companies, such as sharing back-office operations, technology, or distribution networks. However, the resources shared must be legally and financially sound, profitable for both companies, and not detrimental to either company’s operations.

Yes, there is an existing legal agreement between the parent company and the sister company. The legal agreement outlines the terms and conditions governing the relationship between the parent and the sister company, such as ownership, management, branding, and funding. It also establishes the legal boundaries between the two companies and protects their respective interests.

The success of a sister company can be measured through various metrics, such as revenue growth, market share, customer loyalty, employee satisfaction, and community engagement. It is also essential to align the goals and vision of the sister company with those of the parent company to create a consistent and coordinated effort.

A sister company is an excellent way for a parent company to expand its brand and operations into different industries. It can help reduce the risk, increase revenue, and establish a stronger presence in various markets. Creating a sister company requires a thorough understanding of the parent company’s vision, values, and goals. It also requires proper planning, financing, infrastructure, and communication to ensure a successful collaboration between the two companies.

Subsidiary vs. Sister Company: What's the Difference?

travel department sister company

Yarilet Perez is an experienced multimedia journalist and fact-checker with a Master of Science in Journalism. She has worked in multiple cities covering breaking news, politics, education, and more. Her expertise is in personal finance and investing, and real estate.

travel department sister company

Many people incorrectly use the words "subsidiary" and "sister company" interchangeably, when these two terms have entirely separate meanings. Simply put, a subsidiary refers to a corporation that a parent company either fully owns or holds a controlling interest in. Conversely, sister companies refer to subsidiaries that are related solely by virtue of the fact that they are owned by the same parent company.

Key Takeaways

  • The difference between a subsidiary and a sister company lies in their relationship to the parent company and to each other.
  • By definition, parent companies own one or more separate corporations, known as subsidiaries.
  • Sister companies are subsidiaries that are related because they're owned by the same parent company.

A subsidiary may either be a preexisting corporation that a parent company acquires, or it may be an entity that a parent company creates anew, in order to broaden its consumer base. Sometimes referred to as daughter companies, subsidiaries function as independent legal entities, rather than as divisions of a parent company. Interestingly, it is theoretically possible for a subsidiary company to control its own subsidiary or sets of subsidiary companies.

Parent companies may file a consolidated tax return, which can radically simplify the corporate tax calculations for both the parent company and its subsidiaries. Furthermore, parent companies enjoy the ability to offset gains and losses between subsidiaries in an effort to lower their overall taxable revenue.

Sister Company

Sister companies are subsidiaries that are related to one another by virtue of the fact that they share a common parent entity. Each sister company operates independently from the others, and in most cases, they produce unrelated product lines.

In rarer cases, sister companies are direct rivals who operate in the same space. In such situations, after becoming sisters, the parent company often imposes separate branding strategies in a concerted effort to distinguish sister companies. This helps each sister reach distinct markets, thus boosting their individual chances for success.

There are exceptions to this rule, however, when sister companies join forces. This may entail consolidating marketing desks or offering one other special pricing on their respective inventories. For example, a fabric manufacturer may work with a furniture retailer to jointly produce and market a line of upholstered goods.

Sister companies with common target markets may reduce costs by sharing the same vendors and suppliers in order to snag cheaper rates.

Blurring the Lines

As a company grows into a conglomerate, the divisions between its subsidiaries and its sister companies may grow fuzzy. For example, while multimedia giant Viacom Inc. counts Viacom Media Networks as a subsidiary, Viacom Media Networks’ underlying array of cable channels, including Nickelodeon, BET, and Spike, are considered sister companies. By owning these channels, advertising packages can be purchased more cheaply and efficiently.

Gap stores are well-known to consumers, but Gap Inc. is actually the parent company of Old Navy, Athleta, Banana Republic, Intermix, and several other familiar retail chains. In effect, each of these is a sister company that occupies its own market niche.

What Qualifies as a Subsidiary?

A subsidiary is a wholly owned company or one that is majority controlled by a parent or holding company.

What are Two Subsidiaries Owned by the Same Parent Company Called?

Two or more subsidiary companies owned by the same parent company or entity are called sister companied.

Can a Company Have More than One Parent Company?

Yes, The subsidiary is the company that is owned by the parent. The subsidiary can have more than one parent company.

The Bottom Line

Subsidiaries and sister companies are two separate concepts. While a subsidiary may be owned in part or wholly by a parent company, a sister company will be an affiliate of a parent that owns two or more companies under the same corporate umbrella.

Traveler Street Coffee

Save your company time and money on business travel

What are the drawbacks of each solution.

  • Need to compare various websites and pay out of pocket in order to secure the best price
  • Many hidden costs, with fees for cancellations and changes
  • Many back-and-forth emails when booking for companies
  • Need to pay upfront
  • No support for issues on the road
  • Time-consuming manual reimbursing and expense tracking
  • Impossible to ensure compliance with company travel policy
  • Online booking tools are typically buggy, with bad UX
  • Employees end up calling support or book, when they’d rather save time by booking for themselves, with the options they want
  • Costly service
  • Above-market transport/accommodation prices
  • Company policy compliance is difficult to guarantee
  • Lack of travel inventory and options
  • Clunky user experience that travelers don’t enjoy
  • Offshore customer service, typically ranked as the top frustration in customer reviews
  • Often overly complicated and feature-laden
  • Impossible to control travel when travelers can’t or won’t use the tool
  • Lacks low-price flights and hotels available online
  • Impossible to guarantee company policy compliance

The pillars of modern travel management:

  • Trust – Trust travelers to book using the approved process and policy, and make it easy for them
  • Transparency – Let travelers see what they’re allowed to spend and choose accordingly, and let finance and administrative teams see what is being booked and why.
  • Simplicity – Create a process that works and meets everyone’s needs.
  • Impact – Measure the impact of business travel on the company and reduce unnecessary trips that leave travelers exhausted and businesses with needless expenses.
  • Duty of care – Ensure a thorough duty of care strategy is in place to mitigate risks for employees when traveling
  • Sustainability – Being aware of the impact of travel on the environment and adopting good practices to reduce the effect

How can a good corporate travel program help companies to save money?

Ensuring compliance with company travel policy, access to more affordable flight options, stay on top of travel spending trends, six steps to managing corporate travel effectively.

  • Choose a smart booking tool
  • Assure 24/7 travel support
  • Create policies and approval workflows
  • Organize and utilize travel spend data in real-time
  • Improve collaboration between admin and finance
  • Reduce your company’s carbon footprint

1. Choose a smart booking tool

  • Self-booking within policy – Trust your travelers to book what they need, and set up policies and parameters
  • Consolidated invoicing – The ability to get one monthly invoice for all travel from one vendor, instead of having it spread across the web
  • Travel spend reporting – Easy access for all finance and administrative team members who need to track travel itinerary details and spend by cost centers, tags or labels
  • Easy booking process that travelers love – Invoice consolidation and accurate reporting are impossible if employees want to cheat on the approved tool, so choose a tool that’s easy to use with consumer-grade UX. Make their entire travel experience, from booking to coming home, as easy and smooth as possible. Introducing a mobile app is just an added bonus!
  • Great inventory – Inventory is not a side note. Make sure the platform you use has every available option you can find online and that the company is committed to adding more inventory
  • Travel support – You need travel assistance that’s available 24/7 in your native language so that employees can get help even when the internal admin team is unavailable

2. Assure 24/7 travel support

Here are the requirements to look for in travel support:.

  • Available 24/7
  • Easy to reach a real human
  • Guaranteed follow-up and follow-through
  • Native language support
  • Fast escalation for big issues

3. Create policies and approval workflows

  • Maximum cost of airfare
  • Maximum cost per hotel per night
  • Minimum amount of days booked in advance
  • Hotel star rating
  • Flight class allowed

" "

Travel Management: The Ultimate Guide

Approval workflows.

  • No approval required for any trip
  • Approval required for some trips
  • Approval required for every trip

4. Organize and utilize travel spend data

  • Cost centers – Does your company use different payment accounts for different geographical regions? How many cost centers does the company have? Make sure that travel spend is getting charged to the right accounts and that you're making accurate expense reports.
  • Tags and labels – Beyond cost centers, are there any important filters that the finance team would have to have when viewing travel spending reports? For example, would they like each trip tagged by team or by project? Decide upfront so that the tagging system can be implemented clearly from the get-go.
  • Keep all travel in one place – to get accurate travel data, you need to keep all travel in one place—whenever possible. Work with a travel management solution that integrates with providers that matter to your company, such as budget airlines, AirBnb or European train lines. If your company has negotiated hotel rates, you want your corporate solution to be able to book those rates for you, so you don’t lose the travel data by booking directly.

5. Improve collaboration between admin and finance

  • Streamlined approvals process – If your approval process requires action from the admin and the finance team, try to make this as seamless as possible.
  • Easy access invoices – The finance team needs to grab all invoices quickly so they can reconcile expenses and set clear reimbursement processes. The best way to do this is to use a platform that consolidates travel spend into one monthly invoice.
  • Ability to track spend instantly – Consolidate all travel spend into one platform so that they can generate reports on what is being spent, by who, and why (when using tags and labels). Same as with the invoices, determine whether you need to send them a monthly report, or if they want to download it themselves.
  • Cost savings on trips – Fixing travel isn’t just about saving time. Many businesses are still using travel booking platforms that were built in the 80s and 90s. This means that they markup the inventory so that the company is paying more than a consumer would! Impress the finance team by reducing travel costs and introducing consumer-grade prices for trips.

6. Reduce your company’s carbon footprint

  • Work out your starting point by calculating your company’s travel carbon footprint
  • Design a green business travel program, which creates data-driven strategies to increase employee commitment
  • Choose economy class
  • Reduce your fuel consumption where possible
  • Pick low-emission airlines and avoid layovers
  • Vet your accommodation for sustainability practices
  • Utilize green travel tax breaks

The bottom line: it's time to upgrade your travel management

Let’s bring it all together.

  • Choose a smart booking tool – Meet everyone’s needs
  • Share the burden of travel support – Don’t try to do this alone
  • Set up cost centers and labels – Let the tool reflect the business
  • Create policies and approval workflows – Put the policy inside the booking process
  • Improve collaboration between admin and finance – Grab invoices and reports

What is a sister company? Definition and examples

A sister company is a business that has the same parent company as another business. The two companies may operate completely separately and only be related to each other because they are siblings – they share the same parent.

Put simply, sister companies are subsidiaries (daughter companies) of the same company.

The Fox News Channel (Fox News), a US cable and satellite news television channel, has the same parent company (21st Century Fox) as Britain’s Sky News – making the two of them sister companies. Fox News’ other sister channels are Fox Business Network, Fox Broadcasting Company, Sky News Australia and Sky TG24.

Sister companies may be quite different

Sister companies may not necessarily operate in the same business sectors. Their activities and products may be completely different.

Berkshire Hathaway Inc., which is led by multi-billionaire Warren Buffett, is the parent company of Exxon Mobil (oil & gas), Coca-Cola (soft drinks), and American Express (financial services).

Sometimes, sister companies may appear to be arch-rivals in a specific industry, but are owned by the same parent company. ConocoPhillips and Exxon Mobil, for example, compete aggressively in the oil & gas markets, but are both owned by Berkshire Hathaway Inc.

British multinational Virgin Group Ltd., which was founded by billionaire mogul Richard Branson and Nik Powell, today consists of many sister companies that operate in several sectors, such as telecommunications, media, food & drink, healthcare, transport and financial services.

Virgin sister companies

Some operate in the same sector

Germany’s automotive giant Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft has several subsidiaries in the vehicle production industry, such as Audi, Bentley, Cupra, Jetta, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT, Škoda and Volkswagen.

Why Sisters Make the Best Travel Companions

So why do sisters make the best travel companions.

As an avid traveler, I’ve learned finding a great travel companion is not always the easiest task. My perfect travel companion is someone who can roll with the punches but is not too much of a pushover, enjoys engaging in deep conversation yet is also comfortable with silence, is a team player but can take charge when decisions need to be made, loves to indulge but is practical about expenditures, and is down for anything yet knows when its time to say no. I need someone who can keep me grounded when the going gets tough, who is willing to embrace the newness of everything, and wants to have as much fun as possible! After going over my list of requirements, I’ve come to realize that I’ve been describing my two sisters this whole time.

As my constant companions throughout life, it’s obvious that they’d be the ideal companions on the road. Sure, I’d be lying to say that we’re always happy campers when we’re together. I’ve had some pretty hellacious moments with these two but its never been too catastrophic that we haven’t been able to kiss and make-up. And that’s the beauty of sisterhood: that even with all the drama we serve one another, we can hug it out the end. I’m missing my sisters like crazy right now given the fact that they’re both in Brazil celebrating a milestone birthday — bottoms up baby Dre! — while I’m thousands of miles away in Vietnam. (Boo-hoo, sorta, but not really). But in honor of my baby sister’s big twenty-first birthday, here are ten reasons why sisters make the BEST travel companions!

1. THERE’S SOMEONE TO CAPTURE “THE MOMENTS”

From my own experiences traveling alone or being with people who aren’t as committed to recording every minute of an adventure, taking photos becomes somewhat of a nuisance. When you have your sisters around, it never feels like an imposition to ask for a photo every minute. It’s actually second nature that someone is cataloging the trip — if not for ourselves, then for mom and dad’s sake. Every moment captured is a way to document our family history. And the best part is that someone always has back-ups just in case phones get stolen or memory cards accidentally get erased!

2. YOUR WARDROBE WILL DOUBLE

… or in my case, triple! I count myself so incredibly lucky that both of my sisters have a killer sense of style and that they never refuse to share their clothes when we’re traveling. It’s way more practical to just trade clothing instead of overpacking. The woes of a heavy suitcase disappear completely when sisters are in tow. In fact, one of my favorite things about traveling with my sisters is that they style my outfits every day on the road. There’s nothing better than starting the day feeling beautiful because your sisters took the time and effort to make you feel your very best.

 3. THEY’LL HELP MANAGE STRESS LEVELS

While there may be times they’re adding to your stress instead of reducing it, they’re mostly trying to help relieve you of your anxieties. Sisters tend to be very emotionally attuned to one another. If someone is sensing tension, it triggers an empathetic reaction in the other(s) and prompts a need to share the burdens. As a person suffering from social anxiety disorder, I can get super stressed-out while I’m traveling. My sisters can immediately sense when I’m feeling overwhelmed and rush to my aid, no matter the circumstance.

 4. THEY KNOW WHAT YOUR LIMITS ARE

… meaning they can rightfully assess when something is too much for you handle or, if you’re short-changing yourself. It’s empowering to be supported endlessly but its also comforting to have a fall back when you’re feeling afraid of something. Its important to be in the company of people who have an understanding of your capabilities so doubt doesn’t cripple you but in the same vein, you aren’t endangering yourself. When I was nineteen, I dragged Mira and Andrea on a punishing climb up a volcano in Guatemala. Halfway up, I knew that it was more than I bargained for and Andrea was especially suffering, so I took it upon myself to hire a horse to take her the rest of the way up. I was able to address my mistake and prevent my sister from resenting me because I knew what her limits were.

5. THEY HAVE YOUR BEST INTERESTS AT HEART

In respect to all aspects of our lives, I believe that good siblings a) want you to have fun; b) want you to feel good; c) want you to be happy; d) want you to be healthy, and e) want you to succeed. I’ve seen sisters and brother move mountains if its in their power to do so, to ensure that these hopes are achieved. The benefit of having a sister as a travel companion is you have someone who genuinely cares for your overall well-being. When my sisters and I travel together, we become very doting of one another, almost to the point of coddling. As travel companions, sisters become more responsible of one another since we are personally invested in each other’s welfare.

6. THEY CAN TAKE YOUR HONESTY

No matter how close you are to someone, there’s always the fear that offense will be taken, especially while you’re traveling. I’ve seen the strongest friendships crumble because of some mishap on the road. With a sister as your traveling partner, you don’t have to walk on eggshells just to keep the peace. As sisters, you have had a lifetime to learn how to settle your difference. Also, if sh** hits the fan, they’re kinda stuck with you forever so its more in their favor to forgive and forget. When I’m not up for something, I don’t have to lie to my sisters. When I’m angry about something, I don’t have to suppress my frustrations. It’s healthy to be on an adventure where you can be more of yourself as opposed to the person your traveling partner wants you to be.

7. THERE’S NO SHAME IN ANYTHING YOU DO

Let’s be real: who hasn’t dreamed of being an Arabian princess??? Even with an angry Turkish photographer criticizing our inability to “smize** like we meant it,” we didn’t back down from a once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity! Now who else would convince you that putting on a smelly head scarf worn by millions of tourists in a musty underground reservoir would be a good idea? Your sisters have seen you make a fool of yourself a bunch of times. Chances are they’re used to it by now or you’re used to the judgement. Either way, they want you to have fun and they’re probably enduring the humiliation right beside you (see picture below).

**where you smile… using only your eyes – a term coined by diva-queen Tyra Banks of America’s Next Top Model

8. THEY’RE ALWAYS DOWN TO TRY NEW THINGS WITH YOU

Footlong doner kebabs in Turkey, sketchy roadside pupusas in Guatemala, questionable conveyer belt sushi in Poland… okay, okay, so new things don’t always entail foodfoodfood (… maybe to the Pulido girls it does…). But the general statement is true: when we’re surrounded by people we are comfortable with, it’s easier to be goaded out of our comfort zones. It’s hard to try new things alone. But sisters provide the camaraderie we need to face the new and unfamiliar. Sisters are masters at the art of persuasion ie. use copious amounts of flattery, drop words of encouragement here and there, hype-up the fun, and go the guilt-trip route. Also, sisters usually don’t want to leave each other behind so they’re bound to accompany you whether or not they want to.

9. THEY WILL BE GENEROUS TOWARDS YOU

Its an uncontested truth that when you’re on the road with family, they will take care of you no matter the cost. When we were children, our travel expenses were covered by our parents. They not only wanted us to see the world, but ultimately, grow closer as a family. My sisters and I shared everything on these trips: a bed, clothes, food, souvenirs, photos, and most importantly, these memories of places that we may never return to. Because of our upbringing, in adulthood, we’ve continue to give to one another graciously and generously. My sisters never fail to amaze me with their thoughtfulness on our trips: they’ve paid for my massages, covered my meals, and even treated me to shopping sprees in the past! These actions speak volumes when you take into consideration that our trips (flights, transportation, food, etc.) are all covered by our own hard-earned cash. Now that’s love.

10. YOU’LL HAVE YOUR SUPPORT SYSTEM WITH YOU

When you have a sister as your travel companion, you’ll never be alone. They’ve been with you through thick and thin so when you’re on the road together, they will always have your back in times of need. The act of traveling is like being on an emotional rollercoaster — one minute you could be at your highest high, checking off a bucket list item you’ve only ever dreamed of and in a blink of an eye, you could be at your lowest low, having been mugged with no way to recover your lost belonging. In these ordeals, they will be laughing and crying with you. They won’t bat an eye if they have to defend your honor. You have your cheerleader/voice of reason/bodyguard/girl-friend/best friend neatly packaged in the form of a sister. The universe has created the perfect companion to follow you not only on your life journey, but also your journey around the world.

As the years pass, I’ve seen the dynamics in my household shift. We’ve begun to move onto the next chapters of our lives — but in separate directions. I’ve been based abroad for the past two years; Mira is on the verge her college graduation and is finishing up her last semester of school in Brazil; and Andrea is a few months away from embarking on her college study abroad. The only time we can remedy geographic estrangement with one another is during our trips together. As the physical distance widens between us, we find ourselves growing more nostalgic of the times –and places– we once shared. It is during my walks down memory lane that I’ve been able to grasp how much my sisters have been there for me and were the fundamental piece to all my best trips. From Bosnia to Belize, Turkey to Thailand and where to next, I daresay. All that’s sure is that I have not one, but two of the BEST travel companions , and they’re mine for a lifetime ♥

Aw, this post is really sweet! I’m not going to lie I am a bit jealous of you and your sisters relationships! I have an older sister, and she’s awesome, but we have a bit if an age difference so we never really were that close. Also, no one in my family is interested in travel besides me! As a matter of fact they think I am crazy for wanting to go to other places, haha a continuous struggle to try and explain why I am so attracted to travel! I always go to places thinking it would be fun if my family were here to enjoy this with me, but I know there’s no way in hell that’s going to happen! lol You and your sisters look so fun and cute together! Also, I can’t really borrow Scott’s clothes, so my wardrobe will be the same old stuff 🙁 hahahaha

What’s your age difference between you and your sister? I have a little brother and we’re 12 years apart. I’m always thinking about how hard it must be for him to have three older sisters who are so close to one another and what that must feel like… Wait, no one in your family travels?!? That’s so crazy to wrap my mind around since I view you as someone who’s been raised to vagabond! But then again, look at how you’re paving the road for others who are in the same boat — people hankering to get out but no one else has done it around them so I really salute you for chronicling your journey so that others out there can see that its possible for them too! Maybe you and Scott could have a destination wedding *hehe, too soon :P* which would force your family to get on out there! And come on girl, we can borrow our men’s flannel shirts and make it our own! Well Tim is a simple-kind-of-guy so he would pack lightly thus giving me more space to fit my junk as well 😛

I loved this post! You and your sisters are so beautiful and fashionable! I loved looking at all your stunning pictures and reading what you wrote. My favorite part was when you talked about the Turkish photographer who tried to make you smize. Hahahaha.

Awww, thanks boo! My sisters need to take credit for all my outfits though! Seriously, I’m at least wearing one item of clothing belonging to them in every single picture. LOLOLOLOL do you know how scary it is to be yelled at by a Turkish man because your eyes are not expressive enough? The Turks can’t relate! All their women are so drop-dead gorgeous with their almond eyes. Those are the kind of eyes that are MADE to smize!

Great post, but I guess I can’t comment because I have two…brothers, haha. Don’t know what it’s like traveling with sisters, but I gotta say that I used to love travelling with my brothers (especially because of reasons 4,6, and 8). It’s too bad that we are all married and grown up now, and that they are both in the USA and I’m in Korea, because I rarely get to see them, and when I do it’s not like solo traveling. Someday I’d like to travel with them like you have with your two sisters! Great writing, thanks for sharing!

I didn’t mean to make this post so gender-bias but I’m glad to hear that some of the reasons resonate with your own siblings. We have a younger brother (the only boy in the family) and I’d like to think that these reasons apply to him as well (even the wardrobe expansion because of the tiny, lanky Asian boy that he is — we steal his shirts :P). You are going to have that someday with your brothers and it will be like old times I’m sure. Have they had the chance to visit you in Korea yet?

' src=

I don’t have a sister. I only have a brother whose work brings him all over the world. The only person left is my husband who was my boyfriend since I was 20. But I can’t swap clothes with him, haha! Kudos to your parents who gave you so much to remember with your sisters. I’m sure your next get-together with your sisters will be full of fun and laughter and amazing photos! Cheers!

But the hubby I’m sure shares his luggage allowance with you 😉 Yes, so grateful for parents who raised us to be close with one another. You know how it is as Filipinos: family first! But my dad worked in the airline industry and his biggest passion was travel and my mom worked abroad in Saudi and has traveled extensively as well so traveling has played a very big role throughout my life. I cannot wait for that next time! My family’s planning to visit me in Vietnam for Christmas which I’m praying works out!

This was such a great post to read, and I am extremely jealous that I don’t have a sister to travel with..although I travel with my brother and he’s equally fun and carries all my stuff! I found it interesting that they help to manage stress levels…I find my brother doesn’t help when I’m stressed; he adds fuel to the fire!

Dude brothers are the best! I saw the pic of you and your brother celebrating your birthday together! That’s awesome that he’s a gentleman and carries your stuff around… you raised him right 😉 Oh man, my sisters stress me out — they definitely know that — but they’re the only ones who can calm me down which is ironic. Then again, women are very sensitive to other women’s mood shifts. We’re all natural keepers of the peace! Men are sometimes clueless! 😛

' src=

First, you three are too cute. Second, I totally agree that siblings are the best companions for all the reasons you mentioned and more. Third, you made me miss not just my sister but my whole family. I’ve been travelling for four months now (South America) with only one month and a bit to go and one of the things I realised during this time is that I need to spend more time with them. And I will. Thanks for the inspiring post. Cristina X

Thank you for stopping by the blog Cristina! As a visitor, your thoughtful comment means a lot to me! Its true what they say: absence makes the heart grow fonder. Every time I find myself on the road, I wish I had my family nearby so that they too could share in these incredible experiences. Enjoy the remaining month and I hope that your reunion with your loved ones will be filled with so much joy!!!
