Just after the introductory tutorial in Coruscant, you'll come to your first of many Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Meditation Points . These are crucial for actions such as healing, refilling the stims you can collect at the various Star Wars Jedi: Survivor stim canister locations , upgrading your skills, assigning the best Star Wars Jedi: Survivor perks , changing to the best Star Wars Jedi: Survivor lightsaber stances , and fast traveling. However, you need to progress in the game to unlock fast travel.

You can begin to fast travel once you reach the game's second Meditation Point, which, for most players, will be at Derelict Dam. After this point, you can travel to any other Meditation Point you've unlocked during your playthrough. Fast travel by using a Meditation Point, selecting the fast travel option, scrolling to the desired Meditation Point or hovering over it on the map, and holding the button prompted to confirm your destination.

Note that you can't fast travel from the Meditation Point on the Mantis , and there will be story moments that block your ability to fast travel. Generally, you can only travel and from Meditation Points to other Meditation Points (though you'll gain the option to fast travel directly to the Mantis from Meditation Points), and you can only travel to other Meditation Points within the same map.

This means if you want to search for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Coruscant collectables immediately after hunting for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Koboh collectables , you'll need to first head back to the Mantis and have Greez fly you there to continue your scavenger hunt. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has numerous planets and locations that you'll visit as part of your journey. Naturally, you'll want to make exploration a lot more manageable. Here's our guide to help you with fast travel in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

How to fast travel in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

You can access the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor fast travel function by interacting with any Meditation Point. Think of these as akin to bonfires in Souls-like games. You'll see the following options:

Stances - Change your Lightsaber stance.
Rest - Replenishes your HP, Force, and Stim charges , but causes enemies to respawn.
Perks - Assign your perk badges/passives.
Training - Learn a bit of combat know-how.
Skills - Allocate skill points (you can learn more about this mechanic in our best skills guide ).
Fast travel - This is what you'll need to select.

Fast travel locations are shown on the left-hand side of the screen.

Upon clicking on the fast travel option, you'll see a map of the planet that you're on. You'll notice icons/markers, such as those for NPCs and rumors/sidequests. Moreover, you'll see a panel on the left-hand side showing all the Meditation Points

you've discovered and interacted with. Hold the selection button and you'll be taken to that area.

This is how the Star Wars Jedi Survivor fast travel system works. However, there are also a few caveats:

There are a few instances when you'll be prevented from using the function, usually due to the storyline. As such, you'll have to advance or complete that particular main mission.
Pyloon's Saloon acts as your main hub on Koboh. This is where you'll find several resource vendor NPCs . You'll often return here as you acquire more collectibles.
Cal's ship, the Mantis, has a Meditation Point, but fast travel can't be selected (you may only fast travel to it). That's because the Mantis has its own navigation method, known as the Holotable or Galactic Map. Think of this as a means of fast traveling to other planets that you've visited in the galaxy, including Coruscant .

To the delight of many players, fast travel is a new feature introduced in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor . There were many quality-of-life issues in the previous game that were never addressed in updates but are now being introduced in the sequel. While the system isn't perfect, it certainly is a much-needed feature that allows players to explore the larger open worlds much quicker.

Players that may have missed the brief notification might be asking themselves how the system works and what the limitations may be. Here is a quick rundown on everything about the fast travel system as well as some helpful tips on traversing the landscape faster in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

How To Fast Travel In Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

The Fast Travel system is fairly straightforward and shouldn't be too difficult to understand.

Fast Travel is only unlocked after the initial tutorial on Coruscant Undercity, on the first planet, Koboh.

Players need to take the following steps in order to make use of the fast travel system:

These are indicated as circular blue runes on the ground and when seen from a distance have glowing blue beams of light emanating vertically.
This will activate the Meditation Point allowing access to fast travel. This will bring up the menu for various options like Stances, Perks, and Skills. Also, you can find out how to manually save your game from this screen.
This will bring up a map with a navigation menu on the left showing all the unlocked Meditation Points as well as a Map on the Right with small white icons that you can hover over. Refer to the screenshots above.
As mentioned above, Meditation Points are the destinations that players can fast travel to and from. These are named in the navigation panel on the Left that players can press up or down arrows or up or down on the D-Pad on controller. They can also be navigated to by hovering over small white icons on the Map to the right.

Note that players are only able to fast travel between Meditation points that have been discovered and interacted with previously . Any meditation points not yet found will not appear on the map.

Fast Travel From The Mantis

Interestingly, players do not have the option to fast travel from the meditation point inside the Mantis. What's bizarre is that the game allows players to fast travel TO the Mantis from any other meditation rune. Hopefully, this feature gets fixed in an update in the future as when Cal is inside the Mantis he is required to slow walk through the ship.

Thankfully, but nonetheless frustrating, fast travel locations are usually nearby on any planet or moon.

Making use of these fast travel locations in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a welcome addition that saves time commuting and prevents unnecessary deaths. And for those who still enjoy exploring on foot, there's also the option to ride a mount on Koboh to make the world feel more immersive.

Fast Travel at Meditation Points

You can find the option to fast travel at any meditation point on a planet. Choosing the Fast Travel option will open the Holo map, and you can hover over unlocked meditation points to fast travel. Fast traveling allows you to explore and progress faster compared to the first game where you have to map another route going back.

Unlock Meditation Points

To unlock fast travel points on the map, you must first interact with and discover meditation points throughout the planet; only then will they appear in the holo map to be interacted with.

How Does Fast Travel Work

Strictly planetary.

You can only fast travel to meditation points of the planet you're currently on . Fast traveling from one planet to another is not an option . Players can fast travel back to the Mantis and choose a different planet to explore another world.

When and how do you get a Mount

You have probably heard from trailers and pre-launch interviews and announcements that Cal is able to mount up and travel much easier and faster in Star Wars Jedi Survivor compared to Jedi Fallen Order. It’s true! On so many levels.

In Star Wars Jedi Survivor , you can call a mount at any time in the open world. For the most part, your mount will be a two-legged Nekko.

You will learn how to tame a Nekko and use it as a mount during the main objective to reach and explore the Forest Array on Koboh .

After you complete the orientation mission ( starter mission on Coruscant ), you will arrive on Koboh. Here you will see Nekkos roaming around. You will not be immediately able to call one and mount it.

The story will introduce you to the taming experience and from this moment, you will be able to freely call a Nekko and mount up. The taming moment happens pretty early on during your main objective on Koboh.

There will be an unskippable segment in the Basalt Forest where you have to find a Nekko hidden in a cave in the forest, tame it and mount up on it to use it to traverse slippery slopes of terrain and jump over a high fence.

While on Jedha, you will be riding on the back of the tall-legged Spamels (Space Camels). They behave in a similar way to Nekko, but for lore reasons, you ride them while on Jedha.

How to use Mounts in Jedi Survivor

To call a mount, simply press the shortcut keybind. The default on PC is CTRL. For the controller, it’s RB for Xbox and R1 for PlayStation 5. A mount summoned this way will be highlighted green for a short moment then it will run to you.

When you ride a Nekko, you can use your lightsaber or blaster while riding to perform mounted combat .

Note that until you have unlocked the Blaster Stance, you will only be able to use one Lightsaber while mounted.

Fun fact: You can pet your mount while riding it. This is done by pressing R1 or CTRL on Keyboard.

How to Fly in Jedi Survivor

To traverse long distances and drop quickly from high altitudes, you can use a Relter Bird. Same as Nekkos, you have to go through a story bit first where Cal tames a Relter.

You will see these birds as soon as you land on Koboh. At first, they will fly away as soon as you approach them. During your trip to the Forest Array on Koboh , you will learn how to tame the Relters and from this point on you will be able to use them to fly. Well, glide.

Note that Relters are strategically placed in locations where it makes sense of the story requires it. These are not typical mounts and you cannot call them whenever you please.

When you see a Relter sitting on the edge of a cliff or at the top of a mountain, approach it and it will take off the ground, then stay and wait for you to jump beneath it.

Simply jump up, Cal will grab the two legs of the Relter and it will take you off the ground.

While gliding, you have limited controls. You can force the bird to gain a little height for a brief moment and you can steer left and right. You can use fumaroles or updrafts to gain altitude during your flight. These updrafts are also placed in strategic places where the developers saw fit.

How to use Meditation Points to Fast Travel

Meditation Points are not new to Cal or to you (if you have played Jedi Fallen Order). In Star Wars Jedi Survivor you can use them to fast travel from one to another instantly. This opens up a whole new front for you to navigate the planets you explore with much greater freedom and speed.

To activate a Meditation Point, approach it and click on it. Cal will sit and meditate on it. While there, you can do a few more things like swap your Combat Stances, Spend unused or Reset all Skill Points, take a rest to fill up your HP and Stims, change your active Perks and practice in a training environment. You will unlock some of these as you progress through the main story of the game.

To travel from one Meditation Point to another, stand on a Meditation Point, Click on it and when the menu appears, choose the Fast Travel option. Then from the menu on the left side or by navigating the map, choose where you want to fast travel to.

How to travel between planets

Same as with the first game, in Jedi Survivor you can explore a number of planets. Some are larger than others. None is larger than Koboh. To unlock a new planet, you have to progress your main story objective.

Once you have unlocked a planet, you can return to it pretty much at any time from the Mantis ship. Obviously, you need to get the Mantis first. This, as you have already guessed probably, happens through the main story and it happens very early in the game as well.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is as dense as beskar steel. As Cal Kestis — a padawan who survived Order 66 and then became BFFs with the cutest droid in Star Wars canon — you travel across the galaxy to swing a laser sword and perform a bunch of high-wire space parkour. If you played the predecessor, 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order , its trappings may feel familiar. You’ll just find more: more droids to fight, more planets to explore, and of course, more walls to run on. Here are 12 things you should know before starting.

It’s worth brushing up on the story

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor ’s story takes place five years after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order . The sequel technically has a recap of the first game, but that recap is heavy on the vibes, and light on the actual plot details. (Pop quiz: Who’s Jaro Tapal?) Before you start, take time to familiarize yourself with the story and timeline of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order . It’ll make following Survivor ’s plot much easier.

Navigation assist — and other tips for finding your way

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is first and foremost an exploration game. As such, you may spend a good amount of your play time trying to figure out where to go between objectives. Navigation assist — a setting that adds an icon showing to the mini-map you where you to go and can be toggled in the gameplay menu — will go a long way toward pointing you in the right direction.

There are other methods for figuring out your place in the galaxy. Parsing the map reveals more hints than you might expect; green doorways and yellow brackets indicate pathways you can currently pass, while red objects mean you don’t have the necessary upgrade yet. You also might spot a pathway in the architectural rendering that you otherwise missed.

Pay close attention to your environment as well. White ledges are the start of climbing routes. Many pathways are tucked behind barely perceptible cracks in walls. (Yes, Jedi: Survivor does the shimmy-load-screen thing.) Most of all, keep an eye out for walls with rivets or scratches; you can usually use them to wall run to a new area.

Always double-jump into wall runs

Wall running is a key traversal technique in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor . Pro tip: Double-jumping into a wall run will give you more height at the start, thus giving you more height when you end the wall run as well. This will help you clear some of the longer gaps in the early game. (You eventually get a midair dash ability that makes wall running a breeze.)

Turn off fall damage, and mess with other settings

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor features a deep array of accessibility settings. The first one you should turn off? Disable Fall Damage , under the gameplay submenu.

Getting rid of fall damage doesn’t make you invulnerable to receiving damage from height, a fact Polygon has confirmed through much testing. (Sorry, Cal!) It makes it so when you fall into an abyss during a platforming challenge, you respawn nearby without losing health. There are a ton of tough platforming gauntlets in Jedi: Survivor . You will fall. A lot. Ensuring you don’t lose health each time will save you many, many headaches — including the one where you lose a bunch of health because it took you five tries to cross a chasm, and then die from an errant blaster shot when you reach the other side.

There are other settings you should try as well. Arachnophobia Safe Mode in the gameplay submenu makes spider-like enemies look less like spiders. Dialogue Line Skipping allows you to fast-forward dialogue lines in rote interactions, like conversations with shopkeepers or quest-givers. And if you’re looking to tone down the gorier bits, you can deactivate Human Dismemberment in the accessibility submenu.

Lean on your allies

Some story missions pair you up with one of various allies (left unspecified for spoilers). Activating the special ability of whoever’s accompanying you (R1 + square on PlayStation) stuns enemies, giving you some breathing room to either heal or dish out damage. It’s tied to a cooldown, but that cooldown is vanishingly brief. Cal was largely a lone wolf in Jedi: Fallen Order , so it’s easy to forget he’s not always alone in Survivor . Don’t forget to use ally abilities liberally!

Your lightsaber is great at blocking

As with all soulslikes, parries are indeed an effective defensive move in Jedi: Survivor , but don’t sleep on blocking. As long as you still have block meter remaining (that’s the white one in the bottom-center of the screen), you’ll be able to automatically block most attacks. It’s when your enemy starts to glow red that you should be careful. Those attacks are unblockable. Dodging works. Sometimes, though, you’ll get more distance between a foe by double-jumping out of the way.

And at being a flashlight

In dark spaces, BD-1 will turn on a small headlamp, but it has a limited field in front of the droid. Pulling out your lightsaber does a far better job at illuminating everything in close proximity. This, by the way, is one reason you should always rock with the dual wield lightsaber stance: You’ll get twice as much flashlight power.

Keep an eye out for shortcuts

There’s another way to mitigate backtracking in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor — look out for shortcuts. Nine times out of ten, shortcuts are zip wires you that connect a subregion you’re currently in with a subregion you were just in, like, five minutes ago. They’re invaluable for returning to meditation spots to restore your health (and save) before forging onward.

Also: When you’re on a zip wire, you can press triangle/Y to switch directions, in case you decide you no longer want to head back.

Rejoice, you can fast travel in Jedi: Survivor

One of the biggest criticisms of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was that you couldn’t fast travel. Backtracking was a genuine pain in the ass. So it’s good that Respawn corrected course in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor . Yes, you can fast travel — but only on the planet you’re currently on.

There are other limitations: You can only do it while you’re at a meditation spot, and you can only travel to previously unlocked meditation spots. All the more reason to interact with every one you see.; Note too that there are some story-gated instances where you can’t fast travel. (You’ll know so when the option to fast travel at meditation spots is grayed out.)

You’ll come back to that planet later

Jedi: Survivor prevents your progress by partitioning out your traversal upgrades, meaning you’ll end up doubling back through each planet to cover ground you weren’t able to reach before. You won’t be able to get everything on your first visit to each planet; if you want to explore, you’ll have to come back later once you’ve unlocked more abilities.

That said, thoroughly exploring each planet to the extent you can before moving onto the next story objective is always worth the time. You can find essences that increase your health or Force meters, or grant you a free skill point. You can find chests containing cosmetics for Cal and BD-1’s casing — or, in rare cases, a stim canister that increases the number of times you can heal in a row. Various types of local currency are strewn around each planet, and can be exchanged at vendors for cosmetics. Databanks and Force echoes , meanwhile, fill in lore through brief journal entries.

Save your skill points

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor features eight skill trees to dump skill points in. Beyond Cal’s basic stats — health and Force powers — you’ll end the tutorial with three different lightsaber stances, each with its own tree. You’ll soon get two more, including one that lets you rock a blaster. Mid-game Force abilities (which we won’t spoil here) open up the possibilities even more. If you’re not entirely sold on burning precious skill points on upgrades you’re not enamored with, you won’t regret saving them for later.

You can regain lost XP in Jedi: Survivor

Accrue enough XP in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor , and you’ll earn a skill point. Once you’ve earned a skill point, you can’t lose it . That said, you can lose all of the XP you’ve earned progressing you to your next skill point.

Every time an enemy kills you, you’ll lose all of your banked XP. If you want it back, you’ll need to locate the enemy who killed you — usually exactly in the room you died in. You’ll see them glowing gold. Simply touching that enemy with a single attack will restore all of your lost XP. (You can easily cheese this from a distance with a blaster shot or lightsaber throw.)

It works a little bit differently in boss fights. The enemy won’t glow gold. Instead, you’ll see a golden pillar of light in the spot you died. Running into that will restore your lost XP — and in some cases, at least for optional bosses like Koboh’s rancor , you’ll then be able to turn tail and run out of the chamber entirely, with your XP intact. Nowhere in the Jedi code does it say you have to be brave!

How to fast travel in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

Cal Kestis has a new set of planets to explore in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor , and these are much larger than any he's previously had to traverse. As big as they are, they are also dense with things to collect and do off the beaten path. There's also a ton of things you won't be able to do until you come back later with new abilities. Cal's a fit young Jedi, but you aren't expected to hoof it across the entire galaxy every time you need to get somewhere. If you want to get where you're going faster than the Millennium Falcon, here's how to fast travel in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor .

How to fast travel

Fast travel isn't kept from you for very long in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor . In fact, you only need to sit at your second Meditation Point to unlock it, which can be done as early as the second chapter while on Koboh.

Step 1: Play through the game until you get to Koboh in chapter 2.

Step 2: The second meditation point you can get is the Derelict Dam point.

Step 3: Sit at this point, and select the Fast Travel option on the lower-right side.

Step 4: You will see a list of all the Meditation Points you've been to. Just select the one you want to go to and away you go!

There are a few points in the game where fast travel will be locked off from you, as well as times when your Meditation Point in the Mantis will not allow you to fast travel from it (though you can fast travel to it). Meditation Points also allow you to change your stance, refill your health, force and Stim charges, and unlock new perks and skills.

After a boom of video game studio foundings, acquisitions, and developer recruiting in the late 2010s and early 2020s, the industry is headed in the opposite direction. Acquisitions have slowed down, layoffs happen multiple times a week, and news of canceled projects and studio closures has overtaken that of studio announcements. During this time, an industry veteran and game director behind titles like God of War 3 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has started a new studio

Stig Asmussen left Respawn Entertainment in September 2023. At the time, we didn’t know what was next, but this morning, Asmussen announced that he had founded a new studio called Giant Skull alongside veterans from companies like Respawn Entertainment and Epic Games. That team is now at one on creating its first title, an action-adventure game that Giant Skull is keeping under wraps for now. Prior to the announcement, I spoke with Asmussen to learn more about this AAA studio emerging at a time when the video game industry is struggling. No regrets “This idea of being able to start a studio from the ground up with really good people and to be able to define the culture, the types of games that we're going to make, and the types of players that we want to speak to, it really resonated with me,” Asmussen tells Digital Trends. “I just couldn’t let it go.”

Amid a layoff wave at the end of February, EA canceled a Star Wars first-person shooter that was in development at Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment. Considering this is a genre that Star Wars once dominated, as well as Respawn’s mastery with games like Titanfall 2, the news especially stung, even if it's small potatoes next to all the jobs lost in EA's layoffs. On February 28, the Atari-owned Nightdive Studios released Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster. Saber Interactive, the game developer and publisher behind highly anticipated upcoming games like the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, is reportedly being sold by its parent company, Embracer Group.

Bloomberg reports that Saber Interactive will be sold to private investors for "up to $500 million." Saber Interactive has several subsidiaries, including 3D Realms, 4A Games, Aspyr Media, New World Interactive, Tripwire Interactive, and Zen Studios, but it's unclear how many of those it will retain ownership of after being sold at this time as Embracer Group and Saber are declining to comment on the deal. Embracer Group originally acquired Saber in February 2020, and it served as one of the company's primary operating groups.

While exploring the incredible world of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on foot never gets boring, gaining access to fast travel is extremely useful. Every planet is packed with secrets to uncover and Meditation Points to find, so backtracking to locations you've already visited can net you a lot of rewards.

However, players will notice that fast travel is not unlocked at the very beginning of Cal's adventure , so how do you unlock this useful navigation tool in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor ?

How do you unlock fast travel?

In order to unlock fast travel, you'll need to reach the Derelict Dam Meditation Point on Koboh.

As this can be found in the second main story mission after reaching the Mantis ship, it shouldn't take you too long to unlock the navigation tool.

After reaching this location, a 'Fast Travel' option will be available when you interact with any Meditation Point on your journey.

Meditation Points

If you're looking to fast travel in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor , you'll need to interact with one of the Meditation Points you've unlocked . These are useful checkpoints that can be found on every planet that allow Cal to regenerate his health, upgrade skills, change stances, go into training, and of course, fast travel.

Simply visit one of these locations, select the 'Fast Travel' option and you'll be able to instantly travel to any other Meditation Points that you've unlocked on your current planet.

It's worth noting you cannot fast travel to Meditation Points on other planets , only the one you're currently on. A list will even appear on the side of the screen with all the locations you can travel to, making it easy to pick exactly where you want to go.

Jedi Survivor fast travel explained

To fast travel in Jedi Survivor, visit any meditation point and select the fast travel option. This brings you to a new menu listing all the meditation points you’ve unlocked so far for the specific planet you’re on. However, this isn’t unlocked from the start, as you must make it to Koboh before you can fast travel.

When do you unlock fast travel in Jedi Survivor?

To unlock fast travel in Jedi Survivor, you must make it to the second meditation point on Koboh, called Derelict Dam. From here, you’ll be able to hop between any meditation points you’ve already discovered, which at this point will just be the Gorge Crash Site. Note that you can’t return to Coruscant just yet – you’ll need to wait a while until you progress further through the game for that.

How to fast travel in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

When Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was released, the player base had a few gripes with the game. One of the chief complaints was the lack of a fast travel system.

Instead of being able to instantly travel back and forth between set locations, players had to run wherever they want. This got extremely tiring for some and led players to request the developers introduce a fast travel system in the sequel to Fallen Order. Well, in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the developers have listened to feedback and introduced a fully functioning fast travel system.

However, the fast travel system is not available from the start of a player’s journey in Survivor. Instead, they will need to reach a certain point of the game to take advantage of it. You can read all about how the fast travel system in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor works in the guide below.

The fast travel system in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

During your first 15 minutes of gameplay in Survivor, you will come across something called a Meditation Point. These are marked by a blue beam in the ground surrounded by a glowing circle. If you approach the circle, you will be given the option to Meditate, which sits Cal down and gives you the chance to rest, change your stance, acquire skills, train, and more.

Players will also be able to use the Meditation Points to fast travel, but only after they reach the second planet, Koboh. Koboh is the planet players visit after they depart the opening level of Coruscant. On Koboh, after reaching your second Meditation Point, a new option will be added to the Meditate screen under the Skills box.

This option is called Fast Travel, and if you click on it, you will be able to instantly travel to any of the previously visited Meditation Points on your current level. You can only fast travel to points you have found and rested at, so make sure to always interact with the Meditation Points you come across.

I didn’t find the fast travel system to be extremely useful early on, but it becomes much more useful as the game goes on.

You unlock fast travel in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor after the initial mission on Coruscant. Once you arrive on Koboh, you are free to explore and fast travel, after meeting the proper requirements.

In order to fast travel, you need to be at a meditation site. Along with fast traveling, these sites can be used to spend skill points, train, swap stances, restore health and stims, and various other activities.

The fast travel option will appear near the bottom right of the screen, with an icon of an arrow moving right. Select this activity, and it will take you to the overworld map. From here, you can select another meditation site to instantly travel to. After this, hold down the corresponding button, and you will soon be there.

You should note that you can only fast travel to meditation sites on the same planet you are currently on. If you want to travel between planets, you will need to return to your ship and select the planet where you want to go. Meditation sites can also not be used if you are actively in combat, so ensure that the area around you is clear.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor improves on its Fallen Order forerunner in just about every way . That's according to GamesRadar+'s Heather Wald, who rolled straight from the first game into its sequel – having gone hands-on with an in-development build of the latter this week. From its combat to its character development, its fighting to its fast travel, our Senior Staff Writer was impressed across the board with the nips and tucks made to Cal Kestis' latest tale. Which, of course, bodes well for Respawn Entertainment's incoming action role-player sequel as it bears down on its April 28 release date.

Everything in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is designed "without fast travel in mind", the devs told us, suggesting that the introduction of the mechanic in Survivor (one notably absent from Fallen Order) is in place to encourage exploration, and not restrict it or simply speed things up. On the player's end, there's a fine line between each of these outcomes, and while I'm yet to experience fast travel in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor myself, the outward conversation is an important one – especially when considering how the mechanic applies in some of our favorite open-world games in recent years.

The trash-talking enemies in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order are the ultimate motivator

I enjoy the fundamentals of open-world games – non-linear quests, divergent mission structures, sophisticated leveling systems, scores of troubled NPCs, and reams of weapons and armor and spells – but one simple pleasure that I adore is pushing the boundaries of their maps. I love climbing to the highest peak early doors, picking a point of interest far off in the distance, and traveling to it simply because I can. I spent my formative years being wowed by the visual strides made in the Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, and Uncharted series, but being shown a glorious but inaccessible vista in Drake's Deception, and being able to plunder one in, say, Elden Ring , are two very different things.

Games like Fallen Order are more contained than FromSoftware 's latest, massive and sprawling ARPG, but the absence of fast travel in Cal's debut outing was something that irked many players. "Fast travel was definitely something that was requested," said director of production Kasumi Shishido at our Star Wars Jedi: Survivor preview event. "A lot of people wanted it for Fallen Order. And you know, that's something that we kind of agree with the fans – like, that's really going to help exploration and we have a lot of side content in the game."

Survivor's design director Jason De Heras added: "The Nekko that you ride, you know that's part of his journey and his progression and getting more powers and that obviously helps you navigate areas faster. Fast travel's there, but you don't have to use it and we design everything without fast travel in mind."

"But, equally, knowing that this decision was not an arbitrary one, and that everything here's been designed without fast travel in mind is refreshing".

De Heras' closing sentiments there made me think of another of FromSoftware's esteemed action RPGs: Dark Souls. During the first half of Dark Souls, players cannot fast travel whatsoever, which forces them to learn the game world's seamlessly interlinked pathways and vertical shortcuts between zones. By the time fast travel is unlocked, the player already understands the geography, logistics and physics of Lordran's mainline and offshoot locations, which makes fast travel itself more of a convenience as the game ramps up its challenge towards conclusion. Later Souls games arguably diluted their scope for exploration by offering fast travel from the outset – something I reckon Elden Ring helped sidestep by way of its unpredictable elevations and insurmountable knife-edge drops. You can fast travel from the outset in Elden Ring, but doing so doesn't always make traversal easier.

In games like Skyrim , Fallout 4 , God of War , and Spider-Man , fast travel all but renders exploration pointless by their third acts, wherein players have unlocked every waypoint and have access to the entirety of these games' playgrounds. In linear games such as the Dead Space remake, backtracking can be frustrating, but with new enemies and scripted events introduced to familiar areas between times, doing so keeps tension high from start to finish.

And so, ultimately, it's great to hear the Respawn team not only taking on board player feedback to this end, but also staying true to their design vision. The absence of fast travel in a game that likely needed it was apparent in Fallen Order, and it shows a respect for players' time by adding it in Survivor. But, equally, knowing that this decision was not an arbitrary one, and that everything here's been designed without fast travel in mind is refreshing – especially with the likes of Starfield , Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom , Diablo 4 , Marvel's Spider-Man 2 , and Dead Island 2 all still to come this year.

The second installment in EA's Star Wars Jedi series is coming to Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass and EA Play this week. Subscribers can continue Cal Kestis' journey in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on April 25, almost a year to the day after its debut . If you haven't checked out the first steps of Cal's adventure, it might be best to get started with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which is also available through those services.

Jedi: Survivor picks up five years after the events of the previous game, with Cal continuing his fight against the Empire. This time around, you have five lightsaber stances to make use of, while the maps are larger than in Jedi: Fallen Order (at least the sequel includes fast travel). While Jedi: Survivor was generally well-reviewed, the PC port had notoriously poor performance out of the gate — an issue that developer Respawn Entertainment has tried to remedy through updates .

Star Wars Jedi Survivor offers up five different Lightsaber Stances for players to try out. Each one offers a slightly different attacking and defending style, with one even throwing a blaster into the mix as well. Of course, you’ll have a favourite Stance based on personal preference, but is there an overall best Stance? We certainly think so.

Different Lightsaber Stances generally excel at different things. Depending on whether you’re facing down a boss, multiple droids, or ranged enemies, the Stance you’re using can really determine how difficult a battle is likely to be.

Here’s the best Stance to use in Star Wars Jedi Survivor , as well as some tips on some back up options that’ll thrive in boss battles, and other specific battles types.

For our money, the best Stance in Star Wars Jedi Survivor is the Double-Bladed Lightsaber. There are a few reasons for this, namely because it offers the best defence against ranged attacks, and is great for fighting off multiple enemies at once. Upgrades will make blaster-deflecting seriously damaging to foes, and the Endless Hurricane combo is extremely fast if you can pull it off.

Against bosses, the Double-Bladed Lightsaber stacks up rather well. You have enough defence to weather strong attacks, and plenty of speed to dodge around the battlefield. The main thing that this option lacks is Power, which can mean slightly draw out boss fights.

This is why we recommend pairing the Double-Bladed Lightsaber with the Crossguard Lightsaber. This is the best choice for boss fights, as it allows you to do more damage to an enemy’s stagger meter per hit. Switching between these two Stances is the best option you have while playing Star Wars Jedi Survivor .

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Comes To EA Play Ahead Of Expected Subscription Hike

EA has been on a tear of releasing high-quality single-player titles the last few years, and perhaps no series has fared better than Respawn Entertainment’s third-person action-adventure Star Wars Jedi games. Starring Cameron Monaghan (Shameless) as a young Jedi survivor of Order 66, the series follows his character, Cal Kestis, as he deepens his relationship with the Force, wages a rebellion against the growing Empire, and decides how he looks with a mullet . Last year’s sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor , was no slouch, and now it looks to be arriving on EA’s subscription service just ahead of a possible price hike.

Earlier today, Star War Jedi: Survivor was spotted on storefronts in other regions with a mention of the game being available on the publisher’s subscription service, EA Play. IGN later confirmed that Jedi: Survivor was added to EA Play in the UK , though EA itself has yet to make a formal announcement. This is likely because the publisher is preparing to announce a price hike for EA Play, and wants to sweeten that bitter pill by doing so at the same time as announcing the addition of one of its most acclaimed games of the last several years.

A few weeks ago, Gamesindustry.biz reported that it had discovered EA would be raising the prices of its subscription service in the near future. Reportedly, EA sent emails to its subscribers warning them of the increase in price, which would raise the monthly subscription at the basic tier from $4.99 to $5.99, and the annual fee from $29.99 to $39.99. The price hike is set to go into effect by May 10.

EA Play, which comes packaged with PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate , grants access to a small, but growing catalog of EA’s titles. Though its games don’t hit EA Play immediately at launch, they do often come a little ways down the line, and in the meantime, the subscription service offers its members discounts and trials for these titles. It’s a poorly touted service that people often forget they have, but this might help them remember. Considering that EA Play is bundled with much larger subscriptions like Game Pass, signs point to Jedi: Survivor coming to that service in the very near future, likely whenever EA is ready to make the official announcement of its subscription prices rising.

Jedi: Survivor is a hell of a game to sell people alongside a price rise. It launched in a bit of an unpolished state around this time last year, but quickly solidified itself as a frontrunner for the year . Jedi: Survivor is a sprawling metroidvania with some top-notch combat and one of the more interesting stories in the series, and a third game is all but confirmed to be in the works. If that isn’t enough though, Star Wars Outlaws is coming later this year, making this a hell of a time to get into the Star Wars games .

You can find the option to fast travel at any meditation point on a planet. Choosing the Fast Travel option will open the Holo map, and you can hover over unlocked meditation points to fast travel. Fast traveling allows you to explore and progress faster compared to the first game where you have to map another route going back.
