If you haven't seen Turnstile live, I insist that you buy a ticket the next time they are in your vicinity. You will walk out of the venue with your heart pounding and perhaps whisper to yourself, "Now THAT was a motherfucking rock and roll show."

This show was amazing. I’ve never seen any of the bands live before. I’ve also never been To Baltimore Soundstage even though I’ve been in Baltimore my whole life. I’d love to see everyone play again. Thanks for a sick night.

Turnstile Announce Love Connection Tour Heading to North America in 2022

Baltimore five-piece rock outfit Turnstile are taking their new album Glow On on the Love Connection Tour in 2022. The record dropped on Aug. 27 via Roadrunner Records.

Kicking off in San Francisco in late February for two shows before officially resuming in April, the 22-date trek through North America will feature support from Citizen, Ceremony, Ekulu, Truth Cult, and Coco & Clair Clair.

The title of the tour, Turnstile Love Connection, comes from the band’s summer EP of the same name. Those four songs, including the comeback single “Mystery,” worked their way onto Glow On for their first new album in three years.

​“A lot of it is a big-picture reflection on the effect that you have on the world as a person, and on what you leave behind when you’re gone,” Turnstile’s Brendan Yates told Kerrang of the project.

Turnstile Book 2022 Headlining North American Tour With Five Other Bands

Turnstile will hit the road next year on a headlining North American tour in support of their new album,  Glow On , and they'll be bringing Citizen, Ceremony, Ekulu, Truth Cult and Coco & Clair Clair with them.

Before the "Turnstile Love Connection Tour" officially kicks off, the band will perform a pair of California shows at the end of February with support coming from only Citizen and Coco & Clair Clair. Once April 26 arrives, the full six-band package will spend a month on tour, playing in cities across America with one stop over the border in Canada before everything wraps up in Washington D.C. on May 26.

Experimental hardcore act Turnstile have announced a run of 2022 tour dates behind their rapturously received album GLOW ON .

"The Turnstile Love Connection Tour" begins in February in California. After a pause for the month of March, Turnstile will begin the tour in earnest with a Colorado show before performing across the United States and Canada. Citizen, Ceremony, Ekulu and Truth Cult will open all shows except the first two dates — Turnstile, Citizen, and Coco & Clair Clair are on the bill for those.

Turnstile have announced a 2022 North American tour with support from Ceremony , Citizen, Ekulu, Truth Cult, and Coco & Clair Clair.

Dubbed the “Turnstile Love Connection Tour” after the band’s recent EP , the trek officially begins with two warm-up shows on February 23rd and 24th in San Francisco and Los Angeles, respectively (Ceremony, Ekulu, and Truth Cult will not play those dates).

The primary leg of the outing then kicks off on April 26th in Englewood, California, and runs through a May 26th gig at the iconic 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. — a fitting conclusion for the high profile hardcore tour. Get tickets via Ticketmaster .

Concert tourism, or “gig tripping,” is on the rise, mostly fueled by Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour. With more mega tours scheduled for summer 2024, this travel trend seems to be here to stay as fans turn these concerts into mini-vacations, traveling across cities and states to catch their favorite artists live. While the gig trip phenomenon is undoubtedly exhilarating, it also comes with a hefty price tag. 

As we approach peak travel season, we wanted to shed more light on the actual costs of a weekend concert vacation in 50 of America’s largest cities, examining everything from concert ticket prices to flight and accommodation expenses. Whether you’re a seasoned concert-goer or planning your first musical jet set, understanding these costs can help you better budget for those unforgettable live music experiences.

Additionally, we took a look at the tour dates for 30 of the most popular 2023/2024 tours, from Taylor Swift to Drake to Olivia Rodrigo, to see which U.S. cities get the most and least concerts from major artists. 

When planning travel around a tour stop, the costs can hit as many high notes as your favorite singer, especially when considering the steep costs of flights, Airbnbs, Ubering, tour merchandise, and booze at the concert venue.

The 5 most expensive U.S. cities for a weekend concert vacation are:

• New York, New York –- $1,793
• San Francisco, California — $1,692
• Los Angeles, California –- $1,516
• Boston, Massachusetts –- $1,454
• Seattle, Washington — $1,407

It’s no surprise that New York City is the least wallet-friendly tour stop for concert travel, costing $1,793 for a 2-night concert trip for 1 tourist . In New York, the average concert ticket price at Madison Square Garden is a whopping $231.06. Flying into John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) ? Prepare to shell out an average of $441.34 round-trip. Additionally, an Airbnb for 2 nights averages $430.70, while ride-share and meal costs in NYC total $114.23 and $198.00, respectively. 

San Francisco isn’t far behind at $1,692 . Concert tickets here rack up to $244.33 on average, while flights into San Francisco International Airport (SFO) average $465.68, and a 2-night Airbnb stay averages $388.06. Even the booze carries a heavy price tag, with 2 16-ounce domestic beers at a concert setting you back nearly $40 ($38.02). Factor in ride-share, meals, and a $43 tour t-shirt, and you’re looking at a pricey getaway. 

Los Angeles, Boston, and Seattle round out the top 5 most expensive cities for concert travel. A weekend concert trip costs over $1,400 in each of these cities. 

While some cities may be expensive for the gig tripper, others offer the chance to enjoy the music without the financial hangover. 

The 5 least expensive U.S. cities for a weekend concert vacation are:

• Lexington, Kentucky — $1,037
• Cleveland, Ohio –- $1,073
• Cincinnati, Ohio –- $1,097
• Memphis, Tennessee — $1,123
• Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania –- $1,128

Lexington tops the list as the most wallet-friendly concert destination , where a full weekend of live tunes comes in at just over $1,000 . Cheaper flights ($247.34 round-trip), reasonable Airbnb rates (2 nights for $260.45), and lower food and beverage prices both in and out of concert venues make Lexington perfect for the concert junkie on a budget. 

Not far behind are Cleveland and Cincinnati , with costs hovering around $1,073 and $1,097, respectively . Cleveland concert-goers benefit from low beer prices at venues, where 2 16-ounce beers cost just $11.74 — compare this to the $39.74 charged in Seattle. In Cincinnati, the average concert ticket price is just $132.90, ranking ninth lowest in the study.

Memphis and Pittsburgh also make the list of the 5 cheapest concert destinations. Offering rich musical heritages without plundering your savings, these cities sneak in under $1,130 for the entire weekend. In Memphis, the average concert ticket price is just $132.90 at FedExForum –– the fourth lowest in the study, while Pittsburgh earns its spot on the list with its affordable Airbnb rates, at just $214.53 for a 2-night stay. 

With “gig trips,” the concert ticket cost is just the tip of the iceberg. Once you tally up flights, accommodations, transportation, and meals, the total cost of your trip can skyrocket. We’ve compiled our full data study for all 50 U.S. cities analyzed into the interactive table below. Search for your concert destination of interest and click on the heading of each column to sort by specific cost categories. 

When we zero in on concert ticket prices specifically, prices are highest in Austin, Texas, and Las Vegas, Nevada . In these hotspots, the average concert ticket at the top-grossing venues hits a whopping $279.03 in Austin and $260.52 in Vegas. Whether it’s the eclectic music vibe of Austin or the glitzy shows of Vegas, these cities are setting the bar — and the price — sky high for live tunes.

The cost of concert-going can quickly add up — from tickets to flights to accommodations. However, savvy travelers can mitigate some of these expenses by choosing the right credit card that offers cash-back on concert tickets, flights, and hotel stays. Planning to park at premier concert venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheater near Denver or The Sphere in Las Vegas? Be prepared to pay a premium. Parking pass prices at these locations and others can be steep, especially for shows of top artists. In certain scenarios, the price of a parking pass may even exceed $50. 

If you plan to see a concert in San Francisco , brace yourself — parking alone will cost you an average of $89.11 , making it the priciest city for concert parking. Not too far behind, Los Angeles averages $79.50 per parking pass. Rounding out the top 5 most expensive cities for concert parking are Austin, Boston, and Miami, where parking passes average $56 to $66. Concertgoers in these metros might want to consider ride-share or public transit when seeing Justin Timberlake or Blink 182 on tour this summer. 

Some cities seem to have all the luck when it comes to hosting the hottest names in music. By analyzing tour dates for 30 of the most popular 2023/2024 tours, we’ve uncovered which cities are concert capitals and which ones are left wanting more. 

Not surprisingly, cities like New York City (89 shows) and Los Angeles (70 shows) top the list, serving as frequent stops for major tours thanks to their larger-than-life venues and massive fan bases. 

Despite its relatively modest population of just 499,127, Atlanta, Georgia, punches way above its weight on the concert circuit, ranking fourth with a whopping 39 shows . Tampa, Florida, too, defies expectations with its smaller crowd of 398,173 residents, yet it boasts an impressive lineup of 20 major concerts . These cities are proof that size isn’t everything when it comes to live music — it’s all about the vibe and the fans.

On the flip side, Jacksonville, Florida , isn’t feeling the concert love. Despite having a substantial population of 971,319, it only received 1 tour stop. Similarly, Memphis , Tennessee, known for its rich musical heritage and a sizeable population of 621,056, surprisingly is host to just 4 shows.

In this study, we calculated the total of 8 cost factors in 50 of the largest U.S. cities to find the cost of a weekend concert trip for 1 tourist across the U.S., where a weekend equals a 2-night stay, flying in on a Friday night and flying out on a Sunday morning.

The concert ticket and parking pass prices in this study represent an average resale cost across 2024 concerts at each city’s top-grossing venue, sourced from Vivid Seats. Please note that actual prices will vary depending on the artist. Prices on resale platforms like Vivid Seats are determined by supply and demand dynamics, so factors like the popularity of the event, the availability of tickets, and the proximity to the event date can all influence prices.

Lastly, we looked at the city tour dates across 30 of the most popular 2023/2024 tours to see which cities get the most and least concerts from major musical acts. The 30 tours we analyzed were Alanis Morrisette, Bad Bunny, Beyoncé, Billy Joel, Blake Shelton, Blink 182, Drake, Eagles, Enrique Iglesias, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Hozier, Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Kacey Musgraves, Kid Cudi, Madonna, Maggie Rogers, Melanie Martinez, Mitski, Nicki Minaj, Noah Kahan, Olivia Rodrigo, P!nk, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones, Usher, Zach Bryan. 

As concert tourism and other pop culture travel trends gain momentum (both in the U.S. and internationally ), our study uncovers the stark reality behind the excitement: the significant costs. In all 50 cities examined, you won’t find a weekend concert getaway for less than a grand.

Every destination offers a different financial tune for gig trippers. Concert-goers can save over $750 by seeing their favorite artists in Lexington, Kentucky, instead of New York City. Whether you’re a concert veteran or a newbie to the live music scene, understanding these expenses is crucial for planning your next concert vacation.

From Mike DiGiovanna : Long lines snaked out from Dodger Stadium entrances a good three hours before Thursday night’s game, and most of the 53,527 fans in attendance were in their seats well before first pitch, a rarity for the notoriously late-arriving Chavez Ravine crowds.

The draw? It was Shohei Ohtani bobblehead night, the two-way star’s first as a Dodger since signing a 10-year, $700-million deal in December, with a doll of the slugger in his batting stance given to the first 40,000 fans through the turnstiles.

“It’s great for Shohei, it’s good for the Dodgers,” manager Dave Roberts said before the game against the Cincinnati Reds. “I mean, it’s gonna be a hot-ticket item for fans lucky enough to grab one of those.”

There were plenty of Ohtani bobbleheads on eBay Thursday night, with asking prices as high as $5,000.

For those who arrived too late to get an Ohtani bobblehead, the Dodgers can commiserate. They, too, left Chavez Ravine empty handed, managing only four singles–one a bloop, one that didn’t leave the infield–against seven pitchers in a 7-2 loss to a struggling Reds team that had lost 15 of its previous 19 games. It’s the first time since 2018 that Dodgers have gone without an extra base hit in two straight games.

Cincinnati shortstop Elly De La Cruz had four hits, a walk, an RBI and a career-high four stolen bases, and Dodgers ace Tyler Glasnow was roughed up for four runs and six hits in five innings, as the Dodgers lost their second straight game, their first such streak since they lost three in a row to Washington and the New York Mets on April 17-20.

From Dan Woike : As the Lakers continued meeting with prospects in the final days of the NBA draft combine, their coaching search continued to be a strong topic of conversation among rival scouts and executives.

Internally, Lakers sources not authorized to speak publicly have tried to describe their coaching search as being a “wide open” process, with things still in the early stages.

Following the dismissal of Darvin Ham , the team began researching a batch of candidates that included top assistants, former head coaches and, yes, broadcaster-podcaster JJ Redick .

Candidate interviews are close, but as of now, anything being discussed with certainty has been called “hypothetical” by candidates involved in the process.

But despite what the Lakers are saying, many around the league view Redick as the favorite and offered varying levels of approval.

The buzz that has swarmed the WNBA in recent weeks finally came to the Southland on Wednesday, engulfing a cellar team that played as if competing for a title in front of fans who cheered like they were champions.

The Sparks lost their season opener 92-81 to the favored Atlanta Dream, but make no mistake.

This is not the Sparks team that finished the last three seasons with losing records. This is not the Sparks team that has been recently booed and questioned and, worst of all, ignored.

From Kevin Baxter : Lionel Messi will make an MLS-record $20.45 million this season but he’s just one of six millionaires playing for league-leading Inter Miami, according to salary figures released Thursday by the MLS players association.

The league’s average guaranteed compensation is $594,389, up 12% from last season, with the median salary topping $308,000. Nine players have guaranteed compensation of more than $5.2 million and 20 have guaranteed compensation of more than $3.5 million.

Messi, who leads the league in goal contributions with 10 scores and an MLS-best nine assists, has a base salary of $12 million and guaranteed compensation of $20,446,667, the same as last summer. But his pay was prorated in 2023 because he didn’t join MLS until midseason. His guaranteed salary is larger than the total of payrolls of 25 other teams.

1875 — Aristides wins the first Kentucky Derby by one-quarter length over Volcano. The day marks the opening of Churchill Downs with an estimated 10,000 spectators witnessing the first Derby. Aristides is ridden and trained by Black jockeys Oliver Lewis and Ansel Williamson, respectively.

1915 — Rhine Maiden wins the Preakness Stakes, to produce the only Kentucky Derby-Preakness wins by fillies in the same year. The 1915 Derby was won by Regret, who did not compete in the Preakness.

2012 — Hall of Famer Johnny Petraglia becomes the first player in Professional Bowlers Association history to win a national or senior tour title in six decades, beating Ron Mohr 220-204 in the PBA Senior Dayton Classic. The 65-year-old Petraglia won the first of his 14 PBA national tour titles in 1966 in Fort Smith, Ark., at the age of 19. Dick Weber also won PBA titles in six decades, but his mark includes a PBA regional title.

2014 — The Houston Rockets advance to the Western Conference finals for the first time in 18 years after overcoming a 3-1 series deficit to eliminate the Clippers with a 113-100 victory.
