Chris Martin's ‘serious lung infection’ causes Coldplay to postpone tour dates

Coldplay has announced it is postponing several Brazil shows in its "Music of the Spheres" world tour due to "a serious lung infection" that singer Chris Martin, 45, has contracted.

In a statement posted on Twitter , Instagram and its website , the band expressed "deep regret" and said the shows should be rescheduled for early 2023.

The statement reads in part, "Due to a serious lung infection, Chris has been put under strict doctor’s orders to rest for the next three weeks.

"We’re working as fast as possible to lock in the new dates and will follow up with more information in the next few days."

After apologizing for any "disappointment and inconvenience," the statement continued that the group needs to prioritize Martin’s health.

A Coldplay rep told The Hollywood Reporter that there was no additional information available at this time about Martin's illness.

Ticketholders should hold on to their tickets, the band's statement added, as they would still be valid for the new dates, though all refunds will be honored.

"We’re optimistic that Chris will return to good health after the prescribed medical break and look forward to resuming the tour as soon as possible," the statement concluded. "To everyone affected, please accept our sincere apologies, and thank you as always for your love and support."

The Brazil shows would have taken place on select dates between Oct. 11-22. A 10-show appearance in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is still set to happen starting Oct. 25.

In September, Coldplay announced it would bring " Music of the Spheres " to feature film screens via a global broadcast of one of the Buenos Aires concerts on Oct. 28 and Oct. 29 .

Coldplay covers Taylor Swift at Vienna stadium where her Eras Tour shows were canceled due to foiled terror plot

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is showing some love for Taylor Swift supporters in Austria.

On Wednesday, the band kicked off the first of four concerts at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium where Martin, along with singer Maggie Rogers, sang an acoustic cover of Swift’s 2008 hit “Love Story.”

According to video footage posted on social media, Martin also invited “two genuine Swifties” on stage while he and Rogers performed the song.

“We sing this song with so much love for Taylor and so much love for Swifties,” Martin told the audience.

Coldplay appears to be the first major act to headline a concert at the Austrian venue since a thwarted terror attack plot caused organizers to cancel three of Swift’s Eras Tour concerts there earlier this month.

Swift was scheduled to begin the three-show run on August 9 when Austrian authorities announced they had prevented an ISIS-inspired plot to attack one of her shows there.

“The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows,” Swift wrote in a statement posted to her Instagram page on Wednesday. “But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.”

The Grammy-winner resumed her tour last week, performing a five-night run at London’s Wembley Stadium that concluded on Tuesday.

As far as safety measures go for concertgoers attending Coldplay’s shows this week, Live Nation GSA posted a news release on X outlining the venue’s safety plan.

“The well-being of all attendees, artists, and staff is our top priority and, as always, Ernst-Happel-Stadion is coordinating with local authorities and partners in the lead-up to the concerts, to ensure the safety of everyone on site,” it read.

Coldplay is scheduled to perform three more shows in Vienna on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

Chris Martin contracted a “serious lung infection” which forced him and his band Coldplay to cancel their upcoming shows in Brazil.

“With deep regret, we’ve been forced to postpone our upcoming shows in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo until early 2023,” read the statement released by the group and shared on Twitter on Tuesday.

Coldplay had 8 shows scheduled in Brazil between October 11 and October 22. The group had already performed in the South American country in September as part of the Rock in Rio music festival.

“To everyone in Brazil who was looking forward to these concerts, we’re extremely sorry for any disappointment and inconvenience, and we’re so grateful for your understanding at this challenging time where we need to prioritise Chris’ health,” they added.

The statement suggested fans hold onto their tickets “as they will be valid for the new rescheduled dates.” Those concert-goers that would like to get a refund instead could do so “at the point of sale.”

It’s not clear when Martin would be cleared by doctors to perform again but the band has scheduled dates for Buenos Aires, Argentina starting on October 25. Those dates have not been moved yet as of now.

“We’re optimistic that Chris will return to good health after the prescribed medical break and look forward to resuming the tour soon. To everyone affected, please accept our sincere apologies, and thank you as always for your love and support,” the statement ended.

Music | Coldplay postpones Bay Area, Los Angeles, Phoenix stadium shows

New levi’s stadium date has been announced.

Coldplay’s Chris Martin performs during their “A Head Full of Dreams Tour” at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Wednesday, October 4, 2017. (Nhat V. Meyer/Bay Area News Group)

Unfortunately, that number includes all the Californians with tickets to catch vocalist Chris Martin and company at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara and SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.

“We’re very sorry to announce that due to logistical issues, we’ve had to reshuffle the opening dates of our U.S. tour, ” the band said in a statement posted on Twitter. “The U.S. shows will now begin in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl Stadium on May 6.”

The Levi’s date, which was originally scheduled for April 23, has been rescheduled for May 15. The two Coldplay shows at SoFi Stadium have been postponed and have yet to be rescheduled. Coldplay expects to announce new SoFi dates “as soon as possible,” according to the band’s statement.

The other concert affected by the reshuffling is the State Farm Stadium date in Phoenix. The show, originally set for May 3, is now scheduled for May 12.

“We apologise (sic) to all affected ticketholders for any inconvenience these rearrangements will cause,” the band said.

“No other dates are affected — the Music of the Spheres World Tour will still start in Costa Rica on March 18 as planned. Thank you for your understanding. We can’t wait to see everyone soon,” the band said.

Fans can hold onto their previously purchased tickets, which will be honored for the new show dates. They can also request refunds at their point of purchase.

Malaysia’s Defining Political Tension Takes the Concert Stage

Coldplay Perform In Milan

J ust before Coldplay took to the stage in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday night for their final stop of the year on their Music of the Spheres world tour, Malaysian authorities announced that a “kill switch” would be available to the concert’s organizers should they need to pull the plug on the show on account of any misbehavior by the band.

In the end, to the relief of the more than 75,000 fans in attendance, the mechanism wasn’t used—but it’s emblematic of the precariousness that now hangs over international performances in Malaysia. The precaution was implemented in response to a July incident by English band The 1975, whose frontman Matty Healy drunkenly criticized the Muslim-majority nation’s anti-LGBTQ laws and kissed bassist Ross MacDonald on stage in protest. The entire Good Vibes Festival at which the performance took place was promptly canceled and the band blacklisted from playing in the Southeast Asian country again.

In the run-up to Coldplay’s concert, conservative leaders called for a cancellation of their show, too, arguing that the soft-rock group promotes “hedonism and deviant cultures” through its public advocacy for the LGBTQ community. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, in turn, pointed to Coldplay’s longstanding support for Palestinians, which aligns with the Malaysian government and most Malaysians’ stance, as reason not to call it off.

The concert scene in Malaysia, which has long been subject to strict performance restrictions, is increasingly becoming a high-pitch political battleground, spotlighting growing tensions over the direction of the country of more than 33 million people. On one side are conservative Islamists who have continually opposed international artists on religious and moral grounds; on the other are event organizers, vendors, and other business interests, who prioritize the commercial potential of concerts, as well as predominantly urban fans, who are more willing to embrace Western culture.

As Anwar struggles to maintain his grip on power, amid dual trends of rising religious fundamentalism and growing economic concerns, it’s a needle that’s becoming increasingly difficult to thread.

With the leading opposition party now regularly using concerts to “pressure the government” and label the ruling coalition as “immoral,” James Chai, a visiting fellow of the Malaysia studies program at the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, tells TIME, Anwar will continuously find himself having to decide whether to disallow concerts, reneging support for what his own government’s languishing tourism department identified last year as a vital industry, or “continue to have them and take the risk of getting criticized by the Islamic opposition.”

Read More: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim Is on a Mission to Save Malaysia’s Democracy

The battle over concerts in Malaysia is not new. Shows by international artists have long been a touchy subject in the country, where conservative religious groups are known to oppose performers they deem provocative. In 2007, Beyoncé canceled her planned concert in Kuala Lumpur after Islamic groups protested her sexualized image; and in 2013, Kesha’s concert was canceled by authorities just one day before it was scheduled to take place, despite the singer agreeing to self-censor her lyrics and outfits.

But while there remains some room for the world’s biggest artists to perform in Malaysia—after Coldplay’s sold-out show on Wednesday, Ed Sheeran is scheduled to perform in Kuala Lumpur in February—the country’s viability as a concert destination is growing increasingly uncertain amid heightened political scrutiny.

In July, after the controversy involving The 1975 at Good Vibes Festival, American singer-songwriter Lauv canceled his two sold-out shows in Kuala Lumpur; and in September, K-pop group Mamamoo was forced to cancel their November concert after their permit application was rejected by authorities. “Despite our constant efforts, the related issues were unfortunately beyond our control,” the Mamamoo concert organizer said in a statement , without specifying reasons for the rejection, though the group is known for its support for the LGBTQ community and for challenging gender stereotypes.

MTV World Stage Malaysia 2015 - The Concert Event

The impetus to ban performances or pressure artists to cancel, says Kevin Fernandez, a senior lecturer of political science at the University of Malaya, is “surrounded by this conservative idea of what's considered halal ”—an Arabic term denoting what’s permissible among Muslims. “These foreigners have been seen as people that are going to bring about a bad influence on local [Islamic] values,” Fernandez adds.

Leading the charge is the hardline Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), an opposition party that saw a surge in popularity during the November 2022 election and now holds the most seats in parliament of any single party. PAS has long taken aim at concerts, which it deems the cause of “immoral behavior” in the country. Last year, after Billie Eilish performed in Kuala Lumpur, the group’s leaders warned that holding such events would incur the “wrath of Allah.” In August, PAS’s youth wing went as far as to call for a ban on all upcoming performances by international artists , claiming that they promoted hedonistic culture, and it threatened to “stir up resistance across the country” if its demand was not met.

But not everyone is pleased with concerts coming under the crosshairs—especially those whose livelihoods are tied to the entertainment business. “We lead a dangerous life,” says Rizal Kamal, the president of the Arts, Live Festival and Events Association (ALIFE), a group that represents the interests of the industry and has been calling for an end to the politicking around Malaysia’s concert scene. Rizal says his association tries to mitigate the risks of event cancellations by “having continuous dialogue with the government and getting them to understand our business and our point of view.”

Malaysian authorities are also keenly aware of the lucrative potential of the live entertainment industry, which contributed to 6.8% of Malaysia’s GDP pre-COVID. Neighboring Singapore and Thailand are already enjoying the economic windfall of hosting some of music’s biggest names.

But as identity politics exacerbates in Malaysia, Anwar’s embattled government, led by the Pakatan Harapan coalition of center-left parties, has had to navigate a delicate balance between pursuing economic interests and shoring up political support.

Read More: Voters in Malaysia Jaded by Corruption Charges Are Turning More Toward Identity Politics

In October, in a bid to encourage the hosting of more music events in Malaysia, the government announced tax exemptions for local artists and tax reductions for international performers. But at the same time, Pakatan Harapan has attempted to win over conservative Muslim voters by trying to “out-Islamize” PAS . In August, the Malaysian home ministry announced a ban on a series of rainbow-themed watches from Swatch’s Pride collection, saying that the products were promoting LGBTQ rights, “which is not accepted by the general public in Malaysia.”

Authorities have also been taking steps to regulate concerts in public universities, with Anwar saying in June that he was not “giving leeway for youth to be corrupted,” though authorities were later forced to review their guidelines —which included a cut-off time of 10.45 p.m. and a ban on male and female attendees sitting together—after they sparked backlash from student groups.

The tension over concerts—and over the broader centrality of Islam to Malaysia’s government—is notably split more by geographical lines than age , with rural youth among the most prominent supporters of the country’s conservative parties and urban youth more in favor of Anwar’s liberal coalition.

With this division set to define voting patterns in Malaysia going forward, the degree to which Anwar caters to conservatives—and how that ends up being received by both sides—“will have long-term implications that could potentially worsen divisions among different communities in Malaysia,” says Fernandez, “leading to increased polarization and political tension.”

It’s also an issue that seems doomed to persist beyond Anwar’s tenure. “PAS has used international concerts as a political marker of their morality,” says Chai. “Every government that comes into power would have to contest on where the red line is and how frequently to hold international concerts like that.”

Coldplay Perform ‘Love Story’ in Vienna, Dedicate Song to Taylor Swift Fans Who Missed ‘Eras Tour’ Shows

Chris Martin Jokingly Thanks Taylor Swift for Leaving Germany

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and his opening act, Maggie Rogers , performed Taylor Swift ’s “Love Story” in Vienna two weeks after she was forced to cancel her Eras Tour concerts there.

On Wednesday, August 21, Martin, 47, and Rogers, 30, covered the 2008 hit at Ernst Happel Stadium, where Swift, 34, had been scheduled to take the stage on August 8, 9 and 10 before she pulled the plug on those performances amid an alleged terror plot .

“If this is not good, please don’t put it on YouTube because I don’t want to get in trouble with Taylor,” said Martin, dedicating the song to Swift’s fans who were supposed to attend her Vienna shows. “And if you could sing with us, that would be wonderful.”

Taking Martin’s cue, the crowd sang along with the musicians during the acoustic set, in which Martin strummed the guitar and Rogers evoked Swift’s emotional vocal style. Rogers later posted the footage via Instagram , writing, “f rom vienna with love 💗💗💗, ” and tagging Swift.

Earlier Wednesday, Swift spoke out for the first time since the cancellations.

“Having our Vienna shows cancelled was devastating,” she wrote in a lengthy Instagram caption . “The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows. But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.”

Swift continued, “I was heartened by the love and unity I saw in the fans who banded together. I decided that all of my energy had to go toward helping to protect the nearly half a million people I had coming to see the shows in London. My team and I worked hand in hand with stadium staff and British authorities every day in pursuit of that goal, and I want to thank them for everything they did for us.”

She then explained why she chose to stay mum after the news about the thwarted attack.

“Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows,” she wrote. “In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint, and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to. My priority was finishing our European tour safely, and it is with great relief that I can say we did that.”

Swift wrapped the European leg of her Eras Tour in London on Tuesday, August 20. She’s set to take a two-month break before resuming performances in Miami in October.

Coldplay are postponing a run of dates after frontman Chris Martin became sick with a “serious lung infection”.

The “Viva La Vida” pop group were set to play a run of eight dates in São Paulo, Brazil.

However, on Tuesday (4 September), the band shared a statement on social media announcing that the shows had been called off.

According to the post, the 45-year-old singer had been “put under strict doctor’s orders to rest for the next three weeks“.

The shows will be rescheduled for 2023.

“We’re working as fast as possible to lock in the new dates and will follow up with more information in the next few days… we’re so grateful for your understanding at this challenging time where we need to prioritise Chris’s health,” said the band.

“We’re optimistic that Chris will return to good health after the prescribed medical break and look forward to resuming the tour soon.”

Earlier this year, Coldplay responded to claims that they are being used as “useful idiots for greenwashing ” over their efforts to ensure that their world tour was eco-friendly .

The band developed a 12-point plan to minimise their carbon footprint , after vowing two years ago not to tour without finding an environmentally sustainable way of doing so.

Coldplay Cancel Tour Dates As Chris Martin Battles 'Serious Lung Infection'

By Katrina Nattress

October 4, 2022

Celebrity Sightings In New York City - June 17, 2021

Coldplay fans in Brazil will have to wait until next year to see the band live. Unfortunately, the band was forced to postpone their tour dates Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, revealing that frontman Chris Martin is battling "a serious lung infection."

"With deep regret, we’ve been forced to postpone our upcoming shows in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo until early 2023," the band wrote in a statement on Twitter. "Due to a serious lung infection, Chris has been put under strict doctor’s orders to rest for the next three weeks."

Coldplay's Music of the Spheres world tour is scheduled to continue in Argentina on October 25, and the band believes they'll be able to play that date and those that follow. "We’re optimistic that Chris will return to good health after the prescribed medical break and look forward to resuming the tour as soon as possible," they continued the message.

See the full statement below.

Last month, Martin revealed that Coldplay almost had to pull the plug on the tour due to "a big financial crisis."

“It became financially stressful, which we hadn’t had before. We never really had a big financial crisis,” he divulged. “This was the first time where there was a point where we couldn’t do the tour due to all the money stuff.

“But luckily we had some help and they saved the day and we did a few changes here and there," Martin added. "This tour was about trying new things and some of them work and some don’t. We are so lucky that we can survive and sustain losses and that’s OK.”

After Swift cancellation:

Coldplay fans worried, but organizers reassured.

Following the cancellation of Taylor Swift's concert series in Vienna on Wednesday due to the threat of terrorism, many Coldplay fans are now wondering what impact this will have on the four performances by the British band in the Ernst Happel Stadium scheduled from August 21. The organizer reassures.

"We understand the questions and concerns of all fans, but we should try to keep calm and not fuel the situation with further speculation," said a statement on Thursday from the organizer Live Nation, which also stages the major concerts by singer Adele in Munich.

"We are in very close contact with the relevant security authorities and are guided by their assessments and recommendations," it emphasized. "All fans can assume that the safety of visitors, staff and artists always takes priority."

State security does not identify any "explicit danger" Omar Haijawi-Pirchner, head of the Directorate of State Security and Intelligence (DSN), also stated at a press conference regarding the Coldplay performances and the Frequency Festival in St. Pölten that there was "no information that further concerts are subject to explicit danger". And Lower Austria's police consider themselves prepared.

Coldplay fans are worried about the cancellation of Taylor Swift's concerts and whether the band (pictured: singer Chris Martin) will perform in Vienna. (Bild: Nathan Reinds)

Swift cancellation "biggest accident to be assumed"  For music industry researcher Peter Tschmuck from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), the cancellation of the three Vienna concerts by US superstar Swift is "the biggest accident to be assumed" for Vienna as a major event location.

The damage to the city's reputation cannot yet be estimated, of course, but is undisputed. Swift herself could also have played a decisive role in the cancellation, said Tschmuck on Thursday. "As a music industry expert, my first reaction was that this could cause huge economic problems for Barracuda," said Tschmuck.

"This is practically the worst-case scenario. In the past, Vienna has always been an important hub for international concert acts - Coldplay is still due to play (four concerts at the Ernst Happel Stadium from August 21, please note). If there are then concerns about the risk of terrorism and attack plans, this naturally has an impact on international organizers."

"No recommendation for Vienna as a concert location "  The canceled concerts attracted tens of thousands of fans from all over the world to the Austrian capital, who are now faced with a bitter disappointment and have sometimes spent a lot of money. According to the music industry expert, good crisis management is now needed on the part of the city and tourism authorities.

Overall, according to Tschmuck, we unfortunately have to say: "Logically, this is not a recommendation for Vienna as a concert location." The added value generated by the events themselves, which is now lost, is one thing, but little can be said about the medium-term effects. One thing is clear: "In the long term, Vienna is not dependent on such concerts."

Coldplay and Maggie Rogers Send Love to Taylor Swift With ‘Love Story’ Cover in Vienna

By Maya Georgi

Maya Georgi

Coldplay ‘s Chris Martin always acts in the name of love. And he did just that during his latest tour stop in Vienna, Austria when he sang a cover of Taylor Swift ‘s “Love Story” with opener Maggie Rogers . He dedicated the song to Swift and her fans following the forced cancellation of her shows in the city earlier this month after an attempted terror plot.

“Of course, we haven’t mentioned that Vienna was in the news all over the world for all the wrong reasons. But what reached us was the beauty and the kindness of all of Taylor Swift’s fans,” Martin said, addressing Ernst Happel Stadium, the same one Swift was set to play two weeks prior.

“I don’t want to let you think that we don’t care about Swifties in our band,” Martin continued just before orchestrating his own sweet moment. With help from the crowd, Martin found the biggest Swifties he could and brought them onstage so they could have a front row seat to his duet with Rogers. “If this is not good, please don’t put it on YouTube,” he begged his fans. Of course, Martin and Rogers delivered honeyed harmonies to a rousing crowd that sang every word of the Fearless track right back to them.

Coldplay is currently on the road for the Music of Spheres Tour ahead of their upcoming album Moon Music , while Rogers is supporting them after the release of her album Don’t Forget Me.

VIENNA, Austria -- Coldplay paid tribute to Taylor Swift while performing in Vienna Wednesday evening.

The band, currently on its Music of the Spheres world tour, performed at the Ernst Happel Stadium days after Swift had to cancel three shows earlier this month amid a failed terror plot.

Swift later performed in London and s aid in an Instagram post Wednesday that the recent weeks have been a “rollercoaster of emotions.”

“Having our Vienna shows canceled was devastating. The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows,” Swift said. “But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.”

Coldplay, along with opening act Maggie Rogers, performed the pop star’s 2008 hit “Love Story.”

“From Vienna with love,” Rogers said in her caption on Instagram where she posted a video of the performance and tagged 34-year-old Swift.

According to a video shared by a concertgoer on X , Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin told the crowd they care about Swifties, a nickname for Taylor Swift fans.

“We haven’t mentioned that Vienna was in the news all over the world for all the wrong reasons. But what reached us was the beauty and the togetherness, and kindness of all of Taylor Swift’s fans,” Martin said.

A day before Coldplay’s show, LiveNation GSA released a statement on social media platform X ensuring concert goers that safety is their top priority.

“Venue security will conduct thorough searches at all entry points to the stadium, so getting into the venue may take longer than expected,” the statement said.

Discussing the idea behind the tour, the band said in a statement: “Playing live and finding connection with people is ultimately why we exist as a band. We’ve been planning this tour for years, and we’re super excited to play songs from across our whole time together.

At the same time, we’re very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis. So we’ve spent the last two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible, and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward.

“We won’t get everything right, but we’re committed to doing everything we can and sharing what we learn. It’s a work in progress and we’re really grateful for the help we’ve had so far. If you’d like to come to a show and sing with us, we’re so excited to see you.”

Integral to the tour are its eco-friendly measures, which have been set out on a new ‘sustainability’ section of Coldplay’s official website .

The measures include cutting direct emissions by 50 per cent compared to the band’s last tour in 2016 and 2017, using 100 per cent renewable energy and having solar installations at every venue.

Fans who travel to the shows by public transport will be rewarded with discounts, while the band are donating 10 percent of all of the tour’s earnings to climate change organisations. One tree will also be planted for every ticket sold.

Earlier this week (October 12), Coldplay played a tiny London show at Shepherd’s Bush Empire which featured a special guest appearance from Ed Sheeran .

Reviewing the gig , NME wrote: “The intimate settings bring out a rawer, rougher and slightly goofier side of the band. With only a few thousand fans to please – as opposed to the enormous crowds they pack into stadiums – they loosen up.”

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is showing some love for Taylor Swift supporters in Austria.

On Wednesday, the band kicked off the first of four concerts at Vienna's Ernst Happel Stadium where Martin, along with singer Maggie Rogers, sang an acoustic cover of Swift's 2008 hit "Love Story."

According to video footage posted on social media, Martin also invited "two genuine Swifties" on stage while he and Rogers performed the song.

"We sing this song with so much love for Taylor and so much love for Swifties," Martin told the audience.

Taylor Swift performs at Wembley Stadium as part of her Eras Tour on Friday, June 21, 2024 in London.

Coldplay appears to be the first major act to headline a concert at the Austrian venue since a thwarted terror attack plot caused organizers to cancel three of Swift's Eras Tour concerts there earlier this month.

Swift was scheduled to begin the three-show run on August 9 when Austrian authorities announced they had prevented an ISIS-inspired plot to attack one of her shows there.

"The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows," Swift wrote in a statement posted to her Instagram page on Wednesday. "But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives."

The Grammy-winner resumed her tour last week, performing a five-night run at London's Wembley Stadium that concluded on Tuesday.

As far as safety measures go for concertgoers attending Coldplay's shows this week, Live Nation GSA posted a news release on X outlining the venue's safety plan.

"The well-being of all attendees, artists, and staff is our top priority and, as always, Ernst-Happel-Stadion is coordinating with local authorities and partners in the lead-up to the concerts, to ensure the safety of everyone on site," it read.

Coldplay is scheduled to perform three more shows in Vienna on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

Coldplay performed Taylor Swift's hit Love Story.

The British band took to the stage and performed the hit after Taylor was forced to cancel her dates in the Austrian capital due to an alleged terror plot. The Eras Tour star had been scheduled to play at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium in early August, but the three sold-out shows were cancelled after police uncovered an alleged plot by suspected terrorists.

Chris Martin joined forces with opening act Maggie Rogers to perform Taylor's 2008 hit Love Story, according to videos circulating on social media. The Coldplay cover, during their Music Of The Spheres wold tour, appeared to be a nod to Taylor fans who had missed the opportunity to see the pop superstar perform live.

The alleged foiled terrorist attack came days after an attack in Southport in which three young girls were killed in a mass stabbing at a holiday club Swift-themed event. Grammy award winner Taylor paid tribute to the victims, saying she was “completely in shock” after the “horrendous trauma”.

Taylor addressed the alleged terror plot on Instagram after the European leg of her Eras tour came to an end. She wrote: "Walking onstage in London was a rollercoaster of emotions. Having our Vienna shows cancelled was devastating. The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows.

"But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives. I was heartened by the love and unity I saw in the fans who banded together. I decided that all of my energy had to go toward helping to protect the nearly half a million people I had coming to see the shows in London.

"My team and I worked hand in hand with stadium staff and British authorities every day in pursuit of that goal, and I want to thank them for everything they did for us. Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows."

She continued: "In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint, and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to. My priority was finishing our European tour safely, and it is with great relief that I can say we did that."

The superstar went on to thank her five crowds at Wembley Stadium, adding that the "energy in that stadium was like the most giant bear hug".

Legendary ‘90s band cancels U.S. tour due to low ticket sales

Helmet was once big enough that the Loudwire.com referred to the band as “post-hardcore icons,” this week.

But that apparently wasn’t enough for the band which rose to fame through the early-to-mid ‘90s to cash in on for its current tour. So, per Loudwire , the band is cancelling its upcoming North American tour.

“The cancellation is caused by a mix of significant financial concerns and lower than expected ticket sales which is a common problem for many artists this year,” the band told Loudwire. “We look forward to getting back out on the road in 2025.”

While the North American slate is off, the site reported that the European tour will go on for the band.

Founder and frontman Page Hamilton told Loudwire , “As much as we’d love to be getting back out on the road and playing, this one was not lining up well for us. We’re excited about upcoming November/December European tour which is looking great and we will reconvene in 2025 for more US dates.”

Helmet began playing in 1989 and played through 1998 before calling it quits. The band reunited in 2003 and has been together since with its last album, “Left,” being released in 2023.

Taylor Swift's Vienna concerts were cancelled due to terror attack threats.

While Taylor Swift’s concert cancellation in Vienna left fans heartbroken, it seems Coldplay’s Chris Martin and singer Maggie Rogers are showing all their love for the Swifties in Austria. Earlier this week, the band kicked off the first of their four concerts at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium, where they surprisingly sang an acoustic cover of Swift’s superhit song, Love Story. Videos going viral show Martin on stage with his band members along with Rogers as they present a special ode to the fans.

“We sing this song with so much love for Taylor, with so much love for Swifties, and we sing this song with love for young people who are brainwashed into doing stupid. If this is not good, please don’t put it on YouTube because I don’t want to get in trouble with Taylor. And if you could sing with us, that would be wonderful,” Martin said before singing the hook lines.

During this time, he also addressed the fact that Vienna was “in the news all over the world for all the wrong reasons,” further adding that the band was touched by the fans’ “beauty, togetherness, and kindness.” Before he brought two Swift fans to the stage, Martin said, “I don’t want to let you think that we don’t care about Swifties in our band.”

Taking his cue, the crowd cheered aloud and sang along with the musicians during the performance. While Martin strummed the guitar, Rogers tried to evoke Swift’s vocal style. She also posted the video on Instagram and wrote, “from vienna with love.”

Elated fans widely shared video clips from the performance across social media platforms. They expressed their joy through posts, heartwarming comments and much more. “I have so much respect for Coldplay for doing this. They will forever be the ones that comforted us first,” one wrote, while another added, “How heartwarming and sweet! Chris Martin has done more to comfort Swifties than Taylor Swift herself.”

“Vienna needed it,” the official handle of the Recording Academy wrote. Fans even called out, demanding a crossover between Coldplay and Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift’s Shows Cancelled

Amid reports of a possible terror attack, Swift’s multiple shows were cancelled in Austria. Authorities also confirmed that they had prevented an ISIS-inspired attack plot.

Addressing the same for the first time, the singer reached out to her fans on Instagram and wrote, “Having our Vienna shows cancelled was devastating. But I was also so grateful to the authorities because, thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives. I was heartened by the love and unity I saw in the fans who banded together.”
