1990 Skidoo Safari 377

I picked up a 1990 skidoo safari 377 ,i mainly plan on using it for trail riding and just having fun are these good reliable little sleds?I'm a sled newbie and it seems like the perfect sled to start on..

Sorry to rain on your parade, but the a arm Safaris weren't 1 of Ski-doo's stellar products. My father had 1 & it wasn't the best handling sled. Top heavy in my books. He was always tipping it over. He switched to an Indy Trail around '95 & it was a vast improvement. No problems w/it. Doing some comparisons before he bought the Poo, he found that the handlebar & seat heights of the Safari were taller than the Trail. Also, the Safari's ski stance was narrower than the Trail.

yeah mine has seen hell in the last 2000kms and she never burped untill the oil injection quit working...so if i was you keep useing the oil injection and just add little oil to every tank....better to let it smoke a little more then have to rebuild the engine like me...I know I will be adding oil every time from now on

True there is a adjustment and I riched mine out for the last 1000kms...

No spark on 90 Safari 377

What are all possibilities for not having spark. Coil, what else? Spark plugs are good.  

Does that heve a CDI box. That could be the problem  

Thats a huge question...At least tell us the obvious stuff you already tried...(Kill switch malfunction, loose connection, plug wires bad/installed improperly, spark plug cap installed improperly) CDI's rarely go bad...Have you checked the basic stuff?  

Just check all of the wire conection to make sure none of them are loose also check the spark plug boot to make sure the metal in the boot is hetting the plug.

is the coil good or is it bad?  

Coil is what i think it is. I have to test it,what's the easiest way?  

do you hve a voltmeter? You can use this to see if the electricity flows threw it or if it doesn't it looks like this[thumb]  

I think i do. What else can i check? ill check it thursday  

Just check that and tell me what you get  

Did it ever spark? When was it last running?  

I havn't gotten a chance to check it yet, but it hasn't run for a year or two  

Did it run good when you put it away or was it bad then  

Check the kill switch make sure it is hooked up properly if that isn't working unplug it.  

i have the same problem but mine is a 83 377 do you need the wireing harnes for thes old motors. it ran good when i pulled it a few years ago.  

I don't know anything about how it ran- i just got it, for free, from a friend. How should i check to see if the kill switch is working? Don't know anything about wiring harnesses.

I guess I would start with pulling it over and see if you have juice coming to the coil. If not, start with the switches, you should be able to bypass the ignition and kill switch. If that still checks out, Then its before the coil, CDI, stator or wiring. Process of elimination.

broken key on a 1990 safari 377

How can i fix this? Both parts of the key are out of the ignition. could I tape it ? Or how would i go about getting a new one. Thnx  

pull the plug from behind the key switch and run it without a key its what i do  

Thnx. We went out and got a new ignition switch.

Tie Rod End for a 1990 Safari L 377

Is it a right hand thread or left that you need? might have one.  

Yes, they are pretty much all the same. I'm using one from a 1999 Polaris on a 1990 Safari. They are opposite threaded on each end, so you'll need to know that. The one in your hand there looks like a right handed thread. (unless the photo is inverted)
