This Cycleboat tour is easily the best thing to do in the Boston Harbor! So much fun and so beautiful! Captain Ed and Rosie were amazing tour guides and gave us a great trip around the harbor. Here’s how to maximize your time on a Boston Harbor boat this season.

This classic harbor vessel recently got a top-to-bottom makeover after a fire in 2023: its four levels are newly renovated with more modern fixtures and finishes. Brunch, lunch and dinner cruises are fan-favorite events on board, thanks in part to the boat’s huge buffet. And for nighttime entertainment, there’s typically a DJ on the upper deck—making for a dazzling way to spend an evening under the stars. Spirit of Boston is one of the many city experiences from Boston Harbor City Cruises.

2.  ICA water shuttle

Care for a side of modern art with your harbor exploration? Consider taking the Institute of Contemporary Art ’s water shuttle from its Seaport location over to the seasonal exhibits in East Boston at the  ICA Watershed , or vice versa. Admission to the museum covers your shuttle ride, provided through Red Top Boats , and vessels run every 15 minutes.  Just make sure to select a boat departure time when you buy your museum ticket.

Classic Harbor Line offers a variety of ticketed cruises around Boston Harbor all year long. Choose from their yacht, Northern Lights, or the seasonal schooner, Adirondack III . You can take a standard sightseeing cruise, a sunset sail, or peruse one of the many themed cruises on offer: barbecue and beer series, holiday brunch cruises, jazz cruises, fireworks cruises and more. 

4.  Boston Launch Company water shuttle

What’s a day on the water without oysters and caviar? Navy Yard Hospitality, which operates splashy seaside restaurants in East Boston, the Seaport and beyond, has tapped Boston Launch Company to provide water shuttle service to its waterfront properties. The boat makes stops at Pier 6 in Charlestown, the Tall Ship floating bar in East Boston, and ReelHouse locations in both Eastie and the Seaport.

5.  Odyssey Cruises Boston

Dinner cruises on the Odyssey, part of Boston Harbor City Cruises’ fleet , combine good food, a relaxing ride and a bit of sightseeing in one buoyant outing. Enjoy a plated dinner (grilled peach and arugula salad, anyone?) as you gently circle the harbor. You’ll get a front-row seat to the skyline at sunset, not to mention views of landmarks like the USS Constitution and the Nantucket lightship. Reserve a window table for the best view, and when you’re finished eating, mosey over to the cash bar and DJ deck.

6.  Ferry to the Boston Harbor Islands

The Boston Harbor Islands provide an overwhelmingly pleasant escape from city life—with hikes, swimming , camping and more—just a 30-minute ferry ride away . Hop on a ferry to Spectacle, Georges or Peddocks Island to learn about the history of the numerous islands dotting the harbor. And do make time to walk around to the back side of Georges for views of Boston Light in the distance.

The newest offering from Boston Harbor City Cruises, the “Alive After Five” cocktail cruise is aimed at folks pouring out of work on a weekday. Board at 5:30pm from Long Wharf for 90 minutes of fun after a day at the office. The plan? Sip cocktails, enjoy a live DJ and forget about screens for a while.

8.  Charles River architecture tour

Prefer to keep the shore at an arm’s length as you sail? Set out on a Charles River architecture tour, courtesy of Charles River Boat Company . You’ll drink in spectacular views of both modern and historic architecture in Boston, with a guide to narrate the most impressive design facts and features. Highlights include the Prudential Building, the Hancock Tower and Marriott’s Custom House, among other more contemporary projects. Tours depart from Lechmere Canal in Cambridge.

9.  Encore Boston Harbor water shuttle

Maybe you don’t feel like inching up I-93 on a summer’s day to get to the Encore. Why not make a day of it by cruising over to the Everett casino by boat? Free water shuttles depart from Long Wharf every 20 minutes between May 1 and September 30—just check the schedule before heading out.

10.  USS Constitution cruise

Get up close and personal with one of Boston’s most famous historical landmarks as part of this offering from Boston Harbor City Cruises . The 45-minute tour takes you over to Old Ironsides, one of the very first ships commissioned by the US Navy in 1797. You’ll have the option to disembark at the Charlestown Navy Yard to tour the USS Constitution Museum , and then hop back on for a quick harborside swing around to other historical landmarks, including Bunker Hill Monument and Old North Church .

Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, just off the coast of Massachusetts, is one of the best spots for whale watching in the world. Each summer, around 50 individual humpback whales return to this hotbed of biological activity. Tiki cruises are so much better with friends! That’s why we require 6 islanders to go out. If there are less than 6 people booked for the cruise the day before, we will contact you and reschedule to the closest available time or issue you a credit which can be used to rebook at any time in the future.

Physically or spiritually? Oh, the boring one.

Our address is 60 Rowes Wharf (directly behind the Boston Harbor Hotel) and the dock our boats depart from can be accessed from Gate B or Gate C.

Now what kind of Tiki cruise would it be without some tunes?! We have a Spotify set up on board ready to play your favorite tropical beats.

On public cruises, the captain is also the DJ. They do take requests, but they reserve the right to deny a request if they believe it will mess up the vibe of the boat. No hard feelings!

On private cruises, you are the DJ. You get full access to the playlist and you can blast your heavy-metal-K-pop mashup all through Boston Harbor if that’s your cup of rum.

Our public events have a capacity of 24 passengers, this gives all our guests plenty of room to sit down or walk around the deck. Our private parties can have up to 30 guests.

To serve drinks on a boat you have to follow quite a few rules, so we can only welcome passengers aged 16 and up on public cruises. But don’t worry, all ages are welcome for private cruises, so bring the whole ohana! Also, just a heads up you have to be at least 21 or older to sit at the bar. Make sure to have your ID ready for a quick check when boarding!

Short answer – please don’t be! All of our boats run on a pretty tight schedule so we have to depart at the scheduled time. No worries though, we know delays happen and we can always try to hold the boat for a few minutes, but please allow ample time to get to the dock for your scheduled cruise.

If you do end up missing your cruise, we’ll try to put you on another one later in the day, but if we’re unable to do so, your tickets will not be honored. Sorry!

Islanders are encouraged to tip the crew, not the boat, during the cruise should you feel you’ve been provided with exceptional service. Additionally, you will receive a follow-up email asking about your experience with a link to leave a gratuity if you were blown away. Gratuity is split among the crew that made your experience possible. We highly appreciate any gratuities!

Looking at the forecast and seeing gray? Don’t believe a word they say! We’re kidding of course, but our New England weather is so unpredictable that it’s pretty much impossible to plan too far ahead.

If it happens to be raining at the time of your cruise, it shouldn’t be a problem at all – our boat has a roof and sides that come down so we like to believe it’s always 75 and sunny!

We always keep a close eye on the radar and if the weather does get a bit more extreme (heavy wind, thunderstorm,..) and we do have to cancel, we’ll make sure to notify you as soon as possible and offer you a reschedule or a full refund. Usually, this will be on the day of your cruise.

A Hawaiian shirt and a Lei, of course. That’s the official Tiki Islander uniform! Basically, wear whatever feels comfortable, but we always advise to bring an extra layer just in case. The temperature in the harbor changes throughout the day so it is better to be safe than chilly.

Unfortunately, since all of our boats carry a liquor license, we can not allow any outside beverages. Don’t worry, our bartender will make sure to keep you well-hydrated!

*Please note, that no beverages or cups can be taken off the boat after your cruise.

Of course! Feel free to bring your favorite light snacks to enjoy alongside our tropical cocktails.

Just make sure it’s nothing too messy – if there is a mess after the cruise that requires a cleaning crew, we do have to charge a $200 cleaning fee. It hasn’t happened yet, but nobody wants to be the first, so no shrimp cocktail towers or build-your-own taco stations please!

The cruise is in total 1 hour and 30 minutes long. The first 10 minutes is boarding and the last 5 minutes are deboarding.

Yes, we have a bathroom located at the rear of the boat.

Absolutely! We have 12 seats at the bar and another 12 at the front of the boat.

*Seating at the bar is first come, first serve and reserved for customers 21+.

Yes, we have a full bar on board which offers canned drinks as well as tropical cocktails.

We know sometimes life gets in the way and plans change. No worries – we got your back! If you need to cancel your booking, we can issue you a credit for the full amount that can be used to rebook at any time ( the credit does not expire! ). Keep in mind that a lot of people are eager to cruise with us, so we do require a 72-hour notice for all cruises. If you cancel your cruise within 72 hours of departure, you will not be eligible for credit. We do not provide refunds.
