Happy Friday, boos! I can’t believe we’ve been in our home for an entire YEAR!! It was a big leap to move from LA to Sun Valley, ID, but Luke and I couldn’t be happier about our decision. We were in need of a slower pace of life, wide open spaces and fresh air. Check, check, check… we hit the jackpot!! With a babe on the way, we feel very lucky to be able to live in such a beautiful mountain town.

In honor of our home-anniversary, I wanted to put together an updated VIDEO home tour of our modern farmhouse. I start on the front porch and walk you through the house, room by room. Hi. I have loved this home since the first day I saw it pinned! Would you mind sharing how many bedrooms are in the home? Is there an upstairs area? What would you have done differently if you rebuilt this same home? Thanks!

Hi Stacy! There are 4 bedrooms + and office, all single level. The overall design turned out fabulous. No major changes however I would have selected a few different finishes and used a bit more colorful paint.

Would love to know about your blinds in your kitchen, please link source and how do u like the darker color? And did you paint your window trim dark yourself? Would love info on how you did it. Beautiful house.

Hi Joy! We had all of the blinds in the modern farmhouse custom made by a local shop, Fox Creek Interiors. We had our painter paint the inside trim of the windows black.

Step Inside Jennifer Garner's Cozy California Home

Of her new home, Jennifer Garner notes, “I wanted it to feel old and cool and historic, but I also wanted to make it work for a big family with a lot of things going on.” The actor, who reprised the role of Elektra in this past summer’s Deadpool & Wolverine, will start shooting the second season of the Apple TV+ series The Last Thing He Told Me later this year. Nestled in LA’s sun-dappled hills, the resulting retreat is a dexterous blend of farmhouse charm and contemporary comfort, one that prioritizes togetherness, usefulness, and down-to-earth living—the kind of place that can handle muddy feet and impromptu dance parties in the living room. It’s a thoughtfully designed haven that defies Hollywood stereotypes—just like Garner herself, who in addition to her acting work, serves on the board of Save the Children and is a cofounder of Once Upon a Farm , a company that makes organic, farm-fresh snacks and meals for babies and kids.

Garner’s search for the perfect place began more than five years ago. “I realized that I was going to need to move out of a dream house kind of scenario,” she says. “I looked and looked for a house to move into, but I needed privacy, and any house that had privacy was more grand than I felt comfortable in.” This challenge led her to consider crafting something from scratch. “I was frustrated, but finally said, Okay, I think I’m going to have to build and found this lot.” She then enlisted the now Tennessee-based husband-and-wife architect and interior designer duo Steve and Brooke Giannetti , with whom she had worked before on previous projects. (Designer Laura Putnam also collaborated on the project.)

Jennifer Garner’s house is a dexterous blend of farmhouse charm and contemporary comfort.

This one, however, marked a significant personal milestone for Garner: the first time she was making design decisions on her own. As mom to three children, “she wanted a new, warm, family home,” Steve recalls. The architect drew inspiration from Garner’s childhood memories of life in West Virginia. “I had this idea of creating something that felt like a farmhouse and a barn,” Steve says. “We wanted natural wood, coziness—a kind of warm embrace of a house for her because she’s such a lovely person.” This vision quickly took shape, with Steve presenting an initial sketch showing a garden in the front and a walk through trees leading to the entrance, and a rear façade that felt airy and open to the outdoors. He found inspiration in old post-and-beam architecture with its exposed construction details, which served as a model. Garner immediately fell in love.

The result is a residence that eschews grandiosity in favor of understated elegance—a home that, while impressive, is always in awe of nature’s majesty. Enveloped in woods and orchards, the design pays homage to the great outdoors at every turn, whether through art, textiles, or architecture. (There’s even a screened-in porch on the second floor.)

The interior design process focused on creating a calm, neutral palette with an emphasis on natural textures. “Jen loves vintage pieces,” says Brooke, who acquired a French 1850s farmhouse table for the dining room, along with midcentury decorative items from Swedish and Danish designers. “There’s also something a bit whimsical about her. And she likes gentle shapes, curves. This place is kind of the house version of Jen’s personality.”

One of the most welcoming spaces is the kitchen, which features honed marble and soapstone countertops, rounded mohair-covered breakfast table chairs, and a fireplace. (It also opens directly onto the swimming pool.) “She responds to soft and cozy,” Steve says of his client. “She’s not trying to be showy or have huge pops of color or stuff like that. There’s a kind of natural quietness to the things that she likes.”

Garner also wanted to create spaces that support memory-making. “She had different ideas of what was important to her family and how she imagined using these different rooms,” Brooke explains. This led to unique features like a cozy blue study and an upstairs reading nook complete with a pair of stained-glass windows. The windows are the work of artist Reed Bradley and are inspired by the illustrations made by his mother, Marla Frazee, in the children’s book All the World, a family favorite. The work features owls representing Garner’s kids and their dog, Birdie.

The outdoor areas, designed in collaboration with landscape designer Christine London, are meant to be heavily trafficked. A kitchen garden provides fresh fruits and vegetables, while a pool and firepit area are perfect for hangouts and low-key entertaining. Having produce right outside the door is reminiscent of Garner’s childhood home. She says of growing up in West Virginia, “Very early, I remember my mom saying, if you pick something right off a vine, you’re so much more likely to like it. It’s like you can taste the sunshine.”

Because Garner really lives in her home, Steve and Brooke knew that the spot would continue to evolve. “I don’t think homes are ever finished,” Brooke says. “This is one moment in time in their life. As the family grows and as her children get older, they are going to add a layer and change things around.” Still, for today, Garner says with contentment, “I am happy that I feel like we use the space really well, and that the kids are all over the house. They’re as comfortable sitting in the living room as they are doing homework in the dining room. And that’s the dream, right?”

HC&G’s 20th Century Modern House Tour with Hamptons 20th Century Modern

Happening on Sunday, August 14, 2022.

HC&G  and Hamptons 20 th Century Modern (H20CM) will host the first ever 20 th Century Modern House Tour on Sunday, August 14, 2022, as announced in The New York Times .

The inaugural Modern Home Tour is a carefully curated and exclusive tour featuring five modernist homes with all black exteriors.  It is a sampling of the best of the Hamptons Modern Architecture from the mid to late 20 th century. This self-guided home tour will take visitors inside a myriad of architectural homes by some of the areas most noted architects. The featured homes, chosen for their architecture, interiors, gardens, iconic features and grounds, epitomize the Hamptons and will explore different neighborhoods, features and a variety of architectural styles all with a Modernist aesthetic.

“Many people don’t realize it, but the East End of Long Island has one of the highest concentrations of modernist homes in the country,” says HC&G  Editorial Director Kendell Cronstrom. “It’s incredibly important to draw attention to these houses and the brilliant architects who designed them. We are thrilled to be spearheading this tour.”

The architectural gems featured on the tour will be a Harry Bates home created for Jay Spectre, originally had a black interior, which was revolutionary for the time. The original sofa is still in the home and the original carpentry has remained untouched. A second Harry Bates house in East Hampton is also a part of the tour, including access to the gardens that feature a rare Rhododendron. Also included will be a re-imagined Eugene Futterman and an Andrew Geller home that was also re-imagined in black by designer John Bjørnen, who will be present as house captain offering insights into his interpretation of the modernization and the decision to create a black exterior. The fifth home is a Joe D’Urso, a purist of modern design who famously created Calvin Klein’s New York apartment. He worked on very few homes, this one being that last one in existence.

“These houses need marketing and P.R., so that people know about them, respect them, admire them and want to conserve them,” said Tim Godbold of HC20M. “Unless people know about them, it’s not going to happen. They’re just going to disappear.”

For VIP ticket holders, a sixth home will be on view: the Preston Phillips Bridgehampton property.

In addition, each home will be featured in HC&G ’s August 15 th Architecture issue.

Jennifer Garner Gives a Tour Inside Her L.A. Home Despite Being 'Such a Private Person': ‘I’m So Proud of It’

“I’m such a private person about my home,” the actress admits during a video tour of the space to ‘Architectural Digest’

Jennifer Garner is offering a look inside her very special Los Angeles home.

The Family Switch actress, 52, opened the doors to her cozy abode in a video tour for Architectural Digest on Tuesday, Sept. 3. During the tour, Garner revealed how important this space is for her because it was the first time she designed and built a home for herself. 

“I’m such a private person about my home and here I’ve just taken you through the entire house. And really, it’s for a couple of reasons,” she explains in the video. 

“I’ve never built anything all by myself before and I’m so proud of it. I am filled with gratitude every time I walk into my house. That I get to live here, that I’m so lucky to have my kids here,” she continues. 

Garner adds that it’s “unlike me” to share something that’s so personal to her and her family, but she’s “happy” she did, as she's proud of the work she put into it. She shares kids Violet , 18, Seraphina , 15, and Samuel , 12, with her ex-husband Ben Affleck .

On how her dream home came into fruition, the 13 Going on 30 actress says she worked with designer and architect duo Steve and Brooke Giannetti to bring every design element she wanted to life. 

Initially, she was on the hunt for her perfect home that she thought already existed, but she quickly discovered that wasn’t the case. 

“I realized that I was going to need to move out of a dream house kind of scenario. I looked and looked for a house to move into, but I needed privacy, and any house that had privacy was more grand than I felt comfortable in,” she tells the outlet.  

She eventually came to the conclusion that she would have to create something “from scratch.”

“I was frustrated, but finally said, ‘Okay, I think I’m going to have to build,’ and found this lot,” she says. 

Despite the fact that she’s “never even made a Pinterest board before,” Garner says she knew “exactly” the house she wanted to build. 

Describing the design style of Garner’s home, Steve notes that his client “responds to soft and cozy” features, and that there’s a “natural quietness” to her aesthetic. 

Brooke adds, “There’s also something a bit whimsical about her. And she likes gentle shapes, curves. This place is kind of the house version of Jen’s personality.”

As for the specific rooms in the space, Garner says her kids' “slumber party room” is an absolute “dream come true” for her because she loves when her family comes together in one place. The bunk beds were an absolute must as she’s a “stickler for sleep,” but it also makes the room a place where “kids can be kids.” 

She also highlighted her son’s Harry Potter -inspired office underneath the stairs as they’re all big fans of the franchise in her home. Meanwhile, in her kitchen, she notes that it’s like “being inside a treehouse” with all of the wooden detailing in the floors and cabinetry. 

Being a longtime lover of farming , Garner notes that another spot she "loves so much" at her house is the “little orchard” in her outdoor space, which is also outfitted with an alternative clover lawn .

On September 5,  Kyle Richards  and Mauricio Umansky's daughter shared several photos of her new home via her Instagram Stories, detailing how she's been designing and decorating the charming abode with her own signature style. 

"New pieces from Maison Midi ,"  The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills   daughter wrote over the first snapshot in her Stories which showed off framed art pieces from the Mediterranean-influenced home retailer. Alexia also noted the beginning of her "guest room journey," teasing the notion of more decor elements to be revealed.

In another photo, Alexia snapped a mirror selfie in what appeared to be the primary bedroom. In the pic, we could see how the California native outfitted the space with a damask-like-printed comforter on her bed, a black-and-beige geometric-printed area rug, and a hanging tapestry on her wall. 

Alexia then brought us into her beautiful kitchen area , complete with white cabinetry, gray countertops, pendant lighting fixtures over the large kitchen island, and a multi-bulb lighting feature hanging over the adorable breakfast nook that has two incredible unique black iron chairs with face-like shapes. 

Even better is Alexia's cozy living room, that has a cream-colored textured area rug, white chair, glass coffee table, and gray sectional couch. 

At night, the real estate agent revealed how she created the perfect ambience for the fall season with the warm glow of several "Halloween lights."

"Couldn't conclude my little home tour without the patio," Alexia wrote over a photo of her backyard area, which has a bohemian-style area rug, a wooden couch with cream-colored cushions, a wood coffee table, and two other folding chairs. Aleixa's space also has string lights overhead, granting the space the ideal ambiance.

Alexia noted the photo was from her birthday (we spotted her dad, Mauricio, and older sister, Farrah Brittany , in the snap).

"I have a bad case of Kyle Richards-itis," Alexia joked over a photo from Home Goods which showed several different pumpkins, pumpkin-shaped decorative objects, a mummy, a witch, and more fall-themed pieces. The Beverly Hills daughter was seemingly pointing out how alike she is to her mom, who also has a penchant for decorating for the holidays. 

"Like mother, like daughter," Kyle hilariously admitted in her re-share of Alexia's Stories.
