Five star review by erin l:.

I've been to Tour on several occasions - dinner with my daughter, date night with my husband and a larger event/bday party. The simulators are a lot of fun, and if you are not into golf, it is also just a great restaurant to enjoy in town. They also have a nice bar and several screens for watching any type of sporting event. Definitely a great place to check out!

Columbus-based restaurant Ding Ho goes viral on TikTok. Here's what made it stand out

The oldest Chinese restaurant in Columbus has gone viral on TikTok for serving up an appetizing menu, beloved egg rolls, and for being a generational gem. Ding Ho , a restaurant that's operated since 1956, is home to Cantonese food that locals say is the best in town, reports the Columbus Dispatch .

TikTok foodie Rob Martinez ( @eatingwithrobert ) paid a visit to Ding Ho, where he explored how the restaurant invented the popular dish Wor Sue Gai, which is chicken simmered in broth, deboned, fried and topped with gravy, crushed nuts and scallions. The video, posted on August 14, has since garnered more than 715,000 views and more than 100,000 likes in less than a week.

Ding Ho, which translates to "the best," is a family-run business that spans four generations, according to the TikTok video. In the background is a 90-year-old family member who is said to come into the restaurant every day to help.

The egg rolls are yet another menu staple, where the cabbage is fed through a custom-made press before it goes through a sausage press. According to the video, Ding Ho makes about 3,000 egg rolls each week to be shipped around the country.

According to the video, Ding Ho (located at 120 Phillipi Road), is also considered to be one of the oldest family run restaurants in the nation. Since the viral video, there's been a spike in demand. So much so that the establishment will close earlier than usual at 7 p.m., and it's not taking online carryout orders for now, though these actions are temporary until things settle back down, per the Dispatch.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

"Thank you @robmartinez for the viral video, we love everyone supporting our family," reads a pop-up note on Ding Ho's website. "Due to high demand we'll be closing at 7:00 p.m., we also won't be taking any online carryout orders at this time."

The 8 Best Restaurants in Moscow

From the traditional to the modern, fine dining destinations in Moscow celebrate the best that Russian cuisine has to offer.

By Elite Traveler

With many of the best restaurants in Moscow also doubling as bars and clubs, the atmosphere is nearly always one step away from a party, and many of the city’s elite come dressed to impress. Of course, there are still many elegant and family friendly restaurants for those who prefer a quieter evening. With such a large selection available, Elite Traveler has compiled a suitable list for diners of all persuasions.

Café Pushkin

Designed to recreate the feel of a 19th century aristocrat’s house, Café Pushkin has become one of the most popular restaurants in Moscow, thanks to the quality of its food, impeccable service and the excellent vodka selection. The atmosphere of pre-Revolution Russia is delightfully charming, from the flowery script of the menu to aristocratic country house décor. Pushkin is the ideal destination if you want to be treated like Russian nobility and dine like a Tsar – but book ahead, the restaurant’s popularity requires reservation well in advance.

cafe-pushkin.ru

Lavishly decked out with chandeliers and hand-painted furniture, the menu selection may come as a surprise to first-time guests, with options ranging from Pi Pa duck with melon and truffle to beefsteak with foie gras. Turandot puts a French spin on pan-Asian cuisine, and does so with incredible style and boldness. Whilst the interior décor is certainly to be marvelled at, it is the thoughtfully conceptualized and perfectly executed menu options that make for an incredible dining experience.

The views from Buono are unashamedly spectacular, while the décor is elegant, with soft creams complementing the fine views on offer. Italian for ‘small’, Piccolino is a cozy, homely restaurant – something of a rarity in Moscow.

Serving typical Italian food, the family friendly establishment is laid back, but this doesn’t compromise the quality of the food: good, hearty portions that are exceptionally tasty. The interior of Piccolino has been designed to replicate that of a large country house, and the décor is entirely fitting with the atmosphere of the restaurant. In a city where many of the establishments value the names of their guests over the quality of their dishes, Piccolino is the place to come if your preference is quality of food rather than famous faces.

Twin Gardens

With two tasting menus and an à la carte option, the Twin Gardens at the heart of Moscow caters to any palette. With the restaurant concept based on the symbiosis of science and nature, their Vegetables set menu explores all manner of produce from seedling to peeling, delicately plated in a tasteful homage to the natural life cycle of wild plants and flowers. For more adventurous types, their Rediscover Russia menu offers a culinary tour of various local specialties found in provinces across the vast continent. They also have a wide selection of Russian wines.

OAK HALL, CDL

Located in an elegant 19th century mansion, CDL is one of the most sophisticated restaurants in Moscow.

The interior has been gorgeously designed to recreate the grandeur of the Silver Age of Russian culture, with antique balustrades and bas-reliefs throughout the Oak Hall main room. The staircase in the Oak Hall is a particular masterpiece; it was built without a single nail or screw. The fireplace is equally impressive and has been used as a meeting room by President Dmitry Medvedev. Guests can also hire additional rooms such as the Cigar Room and the Cabinet Room. A menu of authentic Russian cuisine has been created by top chef Alexander Popov, with organic dishes bursting with flavor and a splendor to match the opulent surroundings. With so much luxury and class on display, it’s little wonder that former US Presidents Ronald Reagan and George Bush have chosen to dine here. Situated in the center of the city between Bolshaya Nikitskaya 53 and Povarskaya Ulitsa 50, it’s worth booking ahead to avoid disappointment.

White Rabbit

With a domed window inviting soaring views of the Moscow cityscape, White Rabbit has recently undergone extensive renovations, to both its interior and its menu. Renowned architect Natalia Belonogova has transformed the restaurant into an airy, modern space, perfected by the addition of a summer veranda. To connect the dining options with the new interior, head chef Vladimir Mukhin has created a new menu, Metamorphoses, to reflect the lifecycle of the mayfly butterfly.

Delight your palette with scallop, strawberries and blackcurrant or, for dessert, dandelion honey with melted cottage cheese. This summerlike and refreshing menu has its roots in Russian soil and its head in the clouds above Moscow’s skyline.

'labor of love:' brand-new new hampshire restaurant offers indoor golf and upscale dining, share this article.

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — As temperatures start to drop into the 30s and colder, many golfers may be resigned to putting their clubs away for the winter as they wait longingly for spring.

But the owner of the new Tour restaurant and indoor golf simulator facility says “this is our peak season.”

Ryan Lent said Tour will offer Seacoast residents five oversized indoor golf simulators, featuring more than 80 different courses from around the world, along with a full-size restaurant and bar serving “upscale country club food.”

“We’re trying to marry high-end food with a state-of-the-art virtual golf experience,” Lent said about the new business, which opened Wednesday.

“This concept just hasn’t been done before. That’s taken a lot of work, but I think we have a really good product at this point,” he said.

Lent, who is president of NNE Hospitality, also owns The Puddle Dock in Portsmouth.

“This has been a true labor of love, and we couldn’t be more excited to offer this experience to the Seacoast and beyond,” Lent said. “Our mission moving forward will be to help our guests create memories while welcoming, serving, and engaging them through the union of golf and hospitality.”

Tour is located at the former home of Tuscan Kitchen. Visitors will be struck by just how big it is as they walk into the restaurant or golf simulator areas.

Jerry Lewis cinema site

Some longtime residents might remember Tour’s location was also once home to the former Jerry Lewis cinemas.

Lent, a Rye resident who grew up in Portsmouth and graduated from Portsmouth High School, said workers had to dig into the foundation under the slab when they were creating Tour’s space.

“And we found the old walls to the movie theater,” he said.

People sitting in one of the many booths throughout the restaurant space can enjoy television for its party.

Tour restaurant in Portsmouth has multiple indoor golf simulators, as seen Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021. Olivia Falcigno.

“It’s just like the old jukeboxes at Papa Gino’s,” he said.

In addition to the five golf simulators, there are more than 200 restaurant seats, about 30 televisions, as well as restaurant and bar areas where you can see your food being prepared in Tour’s open concept kitchen.

The simulators, as Lent explained, are really “massive multi-media screens” that golfers hit into after picking the course they want to play from famous courses located around the world.

“We use special balls with markings on them that will track spin rates and ball speed and flight patterns and that sort of thing that determines how you’re playing a hole,” Lent said.

Plenty of room

Lent said he designed Tour’s golf simulator areas to be larger than he has seen at other locations, noting they sometimes left him feeling “like you had to lean back so you didn’t get hit by a club.”

“When we designed these, we took that into account and we made them bigger, there’s also bar seating behind a wall at each simulator,” he said.

tour a restaurant

When entering Tour in Portsmouth, guests can store their golf clubs in cubbies, as seen Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021. Olivia Falcigno.

Tour has four simulators where four golfers can comfortably play, plus there’s a fifth “executive simulator suite” in a “conference-size” individual room that features a multi-media screen that’s about 23 feet wide.

“This room can hold 50 people as event space if they’re not playing golf, but if you are playing golf, you can fit 10 to 14 people very comfortably in here and still play,” Lent said as he demonstrated the executive simulator at Tour.

Each golf simulator will be serviced by wait staff and golfers will have places to store their golf bags before and after they play, he said.

Lent, an amateur golfer who loves the sport but acknowledges, “I’m not very good,” hopes to offer lessons at Tour beginning as soon as this spring after hiring a golf pro.

“Hopefully I’ll get better playing here,” he said.

What’s on Tour’s county club menu

Lent stressed he wanted to craft “an upscale casual country club type menu,” around the golf simulators so guests can have a complete experience.

“We have a fantastic pasta selection, we have filet, we have New York strip, there’s seafood options, it’s really just upscale country club fare,” he said as he stood in the middle of Tour’s 11,000-square-foot kitchen space. “We have a top-quality chef making all the ingredients from scratch. It’s not going to be your typical restaurant.”

The open kitchen floor plan at Tour in Portsmouth allows guests to see their food being made, including a vertical rotisserie machine, as seen Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021. Olivia Falcigno.

Chef Doug D’Avico describes Tour’s menu offerings as “fresh American cuisine, with influences of Italian and a little bit of Asian.”

“We’re trying to be great county club cuisine, so we can take care of the golfers, but we also want to be able to be a great 160-seat restaurant where people can come in for a great dinner,” he said. He spoke Tuesday with his massive lighted kitchen in the background. “We’re trying to do a little bit really, really well so that we can get people to come in on a consistent basis.”

A different approach

Tour is not seeking to compete with other restaurants that specialize in say chowder or fried fish, but instead will offer visitors “something a little bit different that they can’t get anywhere else.”

As an example, he points to their Bacon Bomb appetizers, which he described as “Asian-style pork meatballs … wrapped in bacon.”

Tour also offers a Baked Local Cod in Paper entry, which D’Avico says is locally caught cod that’s baked in a bag with all the other ingredients.

“Everything’s created in the bag and then brought to the table,” he said. “When you open it up, you have that wonderful aroma from the dish and then your fish is moist and it’s hot and it’s something different.”

Tour also offers monthly memberships that golfers can buy that give them additional benefits, or discounted simulator rates, or both, Lent said.

Hours are noon to 8 p.m. ET Wednesdays through Sundays.

Did Harris-Walz Campaign 'Stage' Pennsylvania Restaurant Photo Op with 'Paid Actors'?

The harris-walz campaign's bus tour through western pennsylvania on aug. 18, 2024, ended with a rumor about a stop at a primanti bros. sandwich shop., jordan liles, published aug. 22, 2024.

A rumor circulating online during the U.S. presidential election in mid-August 2024 claimed the Kamala Harris-Tim Walz campaign "kicked out" diners eating at the popular sandwich shop Primanti Bros. in Moon Township, just outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to have a "staged" photo op involving "paid actors," who the campaign allegedly transported to the establishment in white vans visible in videos shared on social media. We received reader mail asking about this matter.

In our research and correspondence with sources described throughout this article, we learned the Harris-Walz campaign or someone else reserved the restaurant for the evening of Aug. 18, 2024. Reporting published by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette before the campaign motorcade's arrival described the upcoming stop as a "private party." The reporting quoted a "SWAT member" on-site who said that, following the attempted assassination of former U.S. President Donald Trump in nearby Butler, Secret Service personnel locked down the site, moved all cars away and "vetted" people entering the building.

We also learned more about the aforementioned white vans and have yet to find any credible evidence of involvement from "paid actors." Even so, we noted some reporting in online articles simply referring to the people seated at tables as "diners" as well as some of Harris' own social media posts not providing context about a photo taken inside the restaurant, as if the photo op occurred organically.

To start our investigation, we contacted the headquarters for Primanti Bros. by phone, email, Messenger and X but did not receive any responses. The company also did not post on its Facebook, Instagram or X accounts in the days following the campaign stop. We also reached out to the U.S. Secret Service, numerous officials associated with the Harris-Walz campaign and reporters who were part of the press pool at the restaurant.

Secret Service spokesperson Alexi Worley told Snopes by phone that the white vans were part of the Secret Service's motorcade, "transporting members of the campaign staff and press." As for the people seated inside the restaurant, campaign spokesperson Daniel Wessel told us via email, "I can confirm it was a volunteer appreciation event." Further, a local reporter who was on the scene also provided similar details, which we will go into later in this story.

Popular Posts Promoting the Rumor

Users began spreading this rumor on X at the end of a day filled with stops in the battleground state, in which U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz traveled together on a campaign bus to several locations, including meeting with volunteers at a campaign office, greeting firefighters at a firehouse and visiting with members of a high school football team.

For example, one user's popular post on X ( archived ) claimed that "every single customer was kicked out and replaced with actors," while another person's similarly popular post ( archived ) read, "Trump supporters and paying customers were kicked out of a restaurant to make room for Kamala 'supporters.'"

These and several other prominent posts featured a video of Trump supporters shouting at the Harris-Walz motorcade as it arrived at the restaurant. One person in the video ( archived ) shouted, "They kicked us out of Primanti Bros. because they said it was a private event!" This mention of a "private event" aligned with other information we located in our research. Another person said, "They kicked us out of Primanti Bros. so that they could get the paid actors inside."

A different user's post ( archived ) featured a second video recorded from the same location showing another campaign bus and numerous dark SUVs, and also a photo of an empty parking lot at the restaurant.

Eyewitness Insight and White Vans

Ryan Deto, a reporter for the western Pennsylvania publication TribLIVE.com , who was at the restaurant that day, told us in an email, "The people inside the restaurant were campaign volunteers who were there to meet with Harris, Walz and their spouses." He added he believed this campaign-volunteer aspect was "evident" to him upon his and the rest of the press pool's arrival at the restaurant, which occurred in the white vans mentioned in posts promoting the rumor.

Again, Worley, the Secret Service spokesperson, also told us by phone that the white vans were part of the Secret Service's motorcade, "transporting members of the campaign staff and press."

At least four journalists posted photos taken from the white vans showing the same group of Trump supporters visible in the popular videos on X. Deto was one of those journalists:

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Reports in Advance About 'Private Party'

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported at 5:12 p.m. EDT, 90 minutes before the campaign motorcade's arrival at the restaurant, "Allegheny County's SWAT team stood guard outside of a Moon Township Primanti Bros. ahead of a 'private party' scheduled for 4 p.m. that was rumored to include Ms. Harris and Mr. Walz."

The reporting from 5:12 p.m. also added, "According to another SWAT member, the Secret Service, under scrutiny since the attempted assassination of Donald Trump in Butler, is locking down the site well in advance of Ms. Harris' arrival, moving all cars out of the lot and only allowing people who've been vetted inside the building."

Syndicated AP Story Simply Called Supporters 'Diners'

Even with all of this information, we noted some online articles reporting on the campaign stop still referred to the people seated at restaurant tables, either within their stories or photo captions, simply as "diners," as if the event were organic. The people attending the private function were dining but the context of their visit constitutes more than such a word.

For example, The Associated Press called the people seated at tables "diners," with a later part in the story also mentioning the importance of "[scoring] face time with voters in small venues like diners and mom-and-pop shops." An AP photo caption also referred to them as "customers."

ABC News , NBC New York and numerous other local TV news websites and newspapers syndicated the AP's story.

Similarly, Harris' Facebook and Instagram pages each featured a post including photo of her shaking a person's hand inside the restaurant, with no mention of the gathering involving campaign volunteers or a private party. A separate post on her Facebook page did mention volunteers but did not show a picture of the Primanti Bros. visit.

Samuel DeMarco III, a Republican serving as at-large council representative for Allegheny County who appeared to often share his support of Trump, posted ( archived ) later in the day, "Hey, let's all cut [Primanti Bros.] a break regarding their asking customers to leave to prepare for the Kamala Harris photo-op. Oftentimes campaigns rent out a place of business for a private party or particular event. Perhaps that's what happened here? Anyway, I like a good Primanti's Bros 'hot & cheese' sandwich so let's cut them a break."

DeMarco had posted ( archived ) earlier in the day about the campaign stop, sharing the video reposted by many other users.

Video and Photos Captured Inside the Restaurant

In Fox News ' reporting of the Harris-Walz bus tour's stop at Primanti Bros., a reporter interviewed a patron who said the restaurant's bartender announced "last call" at 3:30 p.m. due to a "private event" starting "at the top of the hour." The article also mentioned restaurant staff or someone else turned televisions off, seeing as they were closing soon.

The Dallas TV station WFAA posted raw footage on YouTube credited to ABC News, showing Harris, Walz and second gentleman Doug Emhoff walking from table to table. At the 4:07 mark in the video, the videographer follows instructions for members of the press to move left and around the empty and closed bar area to find a better vantage and to allow the candidates space to greet people seated at the tables.

In the video, just as the Fox News story mentioned, all visible televisions appear off in the empty bar area and the rest of the restaurant, as one might see at other private events held inside bars and restaurants. In other words, people seated at tables occupied a specific section of the closed restaurant, all in view of the press pool, which featured local and national reporters and photojournalists.

Kunal Atit, whose X bio mentioned he's the Pennsylvania deputy campaign manager for Harris, posted ( archived ) a photo showing Harris greeting people at tables. Again, all visible televisions were turned off. On the far left side of Atit's picture, a person in the background can be seen wearing a "Kamala" hat.

As the ABC News footage and Atit photo both showed, some of the people seated at the tables appeared to dress for the occasion of meeting Harris and Walz, in blazers, dress shirts and at least one woman wearing a blue dress. Other people wore more casual attire.

Harris-Walz to kick off 'Road to Chicago' bus tour from Pittsburgh Sunday

Portrait of Kinsey Crowley

Vice President Kamala Harris and running mate Gov. Tim Walz will kick off a bus tour from Pittsburgh Sunday, stopping in multiple Western Pennsylvania spots.

The tour, dubbed "on the Road to Chicago," comes the day before the Democratic National Convention kicks off in Chicago, the Harris-Walz campaign told USA TODAY Wednesday.

The candidates' spouses Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and Gwen Walz will join them on the tour, the first time all four are campaigning together. The group will focus on meeting voters in their communities, stopping at volunteer canvass events and local retailers.

This will be Harris' eighth visit to Pennsylvania this year. The tour is scheduled after Harris is expected to make her first policy-centered speech in Raleigh, North Carolina Friday.

Sign-up for Your Vote: Text with the USA TODAY elections team.

Pennsylvania is a key battleground state

Pennsylvania provides 19 electoral votes (one less than it did in 2020). It was one of a handful of states that switched its vote from Donald Trump in 2016 to the Democratic Party in 2020.

In 2016, Trump won the state by less than 50,000 votes, beating Hillary Clinton with 48.6% of the vote compared to 47.9% of the vote for Clinton.

In 2020, President Joe Biden won 50% of the votes, beating Trump who won 48.8% of the vote.

Harris has already made several campaign stops in Pennsylvania, including her first appearance with running mate Walz. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro was another top contender for vice president.

When is the Democratic National Convention?

Harris' western Pennsylvania tour comes as many others in the party are headed to Chicago for the DNC.

The DNC is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 19 through Thursday Aug. 22.

13 Absolute Best Food Tours In New Orleans

tourists eating New Orleans background

The city of New Orleans can best be described as a food lover's paradise. Its rich and cultured past has paved the way for an eclectic and diverse food scene to rival all others in the country. In the Big Easy, everything is iconic, from fresh seafood out of the Gulf Coast to delicious drinks that fuel the festivities and sweet treats that many tourists travel far and wide to sample. The city's unique blend of cultures gives rise to exclusive dishes, drawing visitors from across the globe to savor unforgettable cuisine and create lasting memories.

When visiting a new city, it's often wise to let a tour guide tote you around to the most serene, signature spots on your checklist. When New Orleans is the destination, tourists should never leave before booking a food tour to open their eyes to tastes outside the tourist district. We all know to indulge in cajun gumbo and beignets. However, lesser-known New Orleans classics like hearty red beans and rice and yakamein soup are often overlooked by travelers. A food-focused tour ensures a taste of the renowned favorites of the city, while unveiling hidden gems beyond the staples of The French Quarter, where authentic Cajun and Creole flavors come to life. Using personal experience and research methods, this list sums up the best food tours to make your New Orleans vacation unconventional and, therefore, spectacular.

On the  Guided Underground  donut and beignet tour, you'll get to indulge in a different way than everyone else partying in the French Quarter on Fat Tuesday. How to Eat at Noma Before It Closes

Amex and Resy offer the ultimate way to tour and dine at one of the world's best restaurants before it closes.

tour a restaurant

Courtesy of Noma

Lingering on the cobblestone path that runs along the Noma 2.0 property in Copenhagen, just when the day couldn’t feel more surreal, I find myself trying to ignore that its co-founder, Rene Redzepi is sneaking by in a white towel. The world-renowned chef has taken a dip in the nearby canal in the middle of the afternoon and insists I do the same when I return a few hours later for the dinner that’s come to fruition from my wildest imagination.

When I arrived this morning, at least a dozen members of the Noma team were lined up waiting to welcome guests in their signature sea of navy blue shirts. The greetings were only comfortable for them. By the time we said our goodbyes, I’d be comfortable hugging.

Formality and mystique (and often pretension) come with the territory when you have the privilege of visiting some of the world’s best restaurants — like Noma, which ranked No. 1 on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2014. A diner's reasonable expectation of hospitality can be soured by an atmosphere of arrogance, even elitism. But when I arrive at Noma with 30 or 40 Amex Platinum cardholders who scored tickets with Resy’s Global Dining Access and initially feel like I'm part of a crowd interrupting a place of work so we may be be accommodated and entertained, there isn’t a trace of obligation in the air. We’re treated like guests invited into a home, and the ambiance is light-hearted and pressure-free.

The Noma team serves our group of strangers their typical family meal rice bowls for breakfast and a special Mexican menu for lunch. They answer all kinds of questions with openness and patience, and they appear to ask still or sparkling at every mere hint of thirst. (I’ll admit that no one ran over to help when I spilled coffee on my friend’s white pants at the end of dinner, but is pretending not to notice my embarrassment even kinder?)

The day is a fantasy for any restaurant lover. Redzepi shares the history of Noma, keeping 20 years of international impact brief and humorous, admitting to the gastrointestinal risk of foraging uncharted land, and describing his vision for the next 20 years. “I want to be in a place where creativity is at the forefront, where we are exploring, where we are the leading, most innovative food operation on earth that is continuously teaching people, our staff, and inspiring them to go on and do more.”

He introduces the leaders on his team who will be hosting us in their areas: Mette Soberg and Junichi Takahashi in the test kitchen, Kevin Jeung and Gaute Berrefjord in the legendary fermentation lab, and Sebastian Lunøe and sommelier Max Manning in the garden for a beverage tasting. The chefs share how they ideate and innovate, their recipe development process, many of their ingredients, and much of their inspiration from Noma’s nine-week Kyoto pop-up, March through May. We taste samples of pine cone salt and garums; pass koji and Danish bamboo shoots, a rare opportunity to see the ingredients up close; ask questions to our hearts’ desires, and capture imagery freely.

Soberg, who has worked at Noma for a decade, describes how menu development has evolved from changing one or two dishes at a time, to dividing the year into three seasons at Noma 2.0 : plants from June to September, wild game and forest finds from October to December, and seafood from January to May. “For us, creatively, that transition was the best thing that could’ve ever happened,” she says. “To just do a clean slate and a completely fresh menu gives us this really, really amazing energy."

"For example," she continues, "using only seafood in January means that all of a sudden there is a whole new world that’s open to us. It’s not because we weren’t using seafood before, but to make a whole menu where everything is from the ocean, that’s really been a massive shift [and] way to think.”

Manning, a recent addition to the Noma team, describes the format as opening a brand new restaurant three times a year before pouring five or six samples of sake from the producer he worked with in Japan. We learn more about the makeup of sake (water, rice, and koji) beyond the three styles and the process of rice polishing, then take a spin around the dining room and kitchen with CEO Peter Kreiner and head chef Pablo Soto who admits, while showing us the kitchen that’s not only open but open-air, that he “thought it was going to be a windowless life” when he became a chef.

We leave the team with a few hours of space for prep (and perhaps dips in the canal, which is a Noma staff custom) after an energizing day of education, and when we return for dinner, it’s not formal, but it is business. The dining room and kitchen are adjoined open spaces, and you can see and hear the intensity of a team getting 18 courses out to almost as many tables. The dishes draw even more of your attention than the choreography. For the Vegetable Season menu, bright flowers add vibrant color to each plate, fresh foraged berries are full of flavor, and vegetables are picked day-of and cut to perfect uniformity.

“You guys have chosen the absolute best time to come,” Soberg said. “The days are long and there are flowers and birds everywhere; it’s just so inspiring. Now we focus on the plants: There’s plenty of them, they’re so beautiful, you could make 20 vegetable menus because there’s so many ingredients to choose from – flowers, herbs, vegetables, you name it.”

Mushroom sashimi is served with elderflowers and a sauce made from hazelnut milk and fresh elderflower oil. The hot pink flower hip rose can be eaten whole with sweet mirabelle plum and tart raspberry inside. Flowers from the garden and wildflowers are presented as soup with tomato water and magnolia syrup. White currant fruit leather wraps around pumpkin puree and peas, garnished with tiny, delicate white, pink, and blue flowers. A tapioca and millet dumpling is showered with orange petals, also from the garden, and squash blossoms are served in Danish soy milk yuba with beech greens (leaves from the Danish forest tree that are a staple ingredient here) and gooseberries.

“In the spring and summer, flowers erupt everywhere,” says Mirek Anderson, a fellow research and development chef in the test kitchen.

The meal concludes with an encore of desserts, including ice cream wrapped in koji and lined with black currant leather — an homage to Japanese onigiri — and a magnolia flower with caramelized saffron.

“A lot of people have the wrong perception of the ingredients that we work with and that we want to be 100% Scandinavian flavor profile,” Soberg explains in the test kitchen. “That was probably true in the very early days of Noma, but now because of all these travels we’ve become a melting pot of all the different cultures and all the different nationalities that work here and all the experiences that we’ve had at these pop-ups.”

The beverage pairings come from Japan, France, Slovakia, Italy, and Austria, spanning sake, orange wine, and Champagne — all natural , which Manning qualifies as organic, farmed responsibly, spontaneously fermented without filtration or sulfur, and most importantly to Noma, made by good people. The non-alcoholic pairings are possibly even more compelling as they offer an opportunity to taste more innovation from the team, like mushroom kombucha with smoked corn husk and ancho chile.

There is inspiration from Kyoto throughout the courses, nods to Mexico and Sydney (2017 and 2016 pop-up hosts), and plenty of surprises — besides that the meal keeps going. At one point we are eating an entire rose flower and at another we are sampling caterpillar poop at the table, because our group had follow-up questions after the mention of its use in a kombucha. Someone in Japan is researching caterpillars’ poo after the insect eats cherry blossoms, and I am relieved the team isn’t being sent out to forage this in the wild.

I had considered attending the Noma dinner series in New York when the possibility popped up in my Resy app in 2022. I priced out upgrading my Amex, weighed the benefits, believed making it to Copenhagen any time soon was unlikely, but ultimately determined the cost put far too much pressure on the experience and convinced myself to let it go. Then Redzepi announced the dining room’s imminent closing , citing the unsustainability of fine dining restaurants, and I had to accept that I’d never make it. I’d be fine, but I wouldn’t see the fermentation lab that I’ve watched impact culinary education and chefs everywhere. I wouldn’t taste the ingredients that have broadened my horizons through a mere social media platform. I wouldn’t know if it really was the best restaurant in the world or get to take part in that conversation. Honestly, the door shutting on the opportunity to meet the team hadn’t crossed my mind. It was realistic and sufficient that we’d live on either side of Instagram at most.

But the reality of going to Noma before it closes is that you have to meet the team. If I am convinced of anything it’s that the legend is the people. The team has evolved with people from all over the world (Australia, Canada, India, Germany, Mexico, Japan, Spain, the U.S.) contributing 100 perspectives, areas of expertise, inspiration, culture, ideas, and excitement. As the restaurant has reckoned with the challenges of the industry, its culture has shifted, limiting services to five a week to hone better conditions for the team and encouraging self care to keep minds fresh.

We’ve become a melting pot of all the different cultures and all the different nationalities that work here.

As Soberg explained, “Some of the dishes have a million different components.” Some took three months to develop and are too complex to explain at the table. The full-day tour from Amex and Resy offers time for this deeper dive behind the scenes. For me it was a chance to absorb the impact that Noma has had on the food world, and my visit turned into more of a personal introduction than a farewell.

Noma is closing the restaurant as we know it to focus on the things that made the day so enchanting — research, innovation, flavor, experimentation, creativity, environment, impact — and they’ll share that on their terms in different formats going forward, including more pop ups around the world and products that people can use at home in their everyday cooking. To meet the people changing the culinary world in their element while you can still end the day with an elaborate tasting menu, check out Global Dining Access: Exclusive Experience at Noma, Game & Forest Season . Tickets go on sale July 17 for events on October 14 and November 4.

What is a Food Tour?

A food tour is an adventure for your taste buds, guided by a knowledgeable local passionate about their city’s cuisine and traditions. It’s a journey through the heart of a destination, exploring themes like markets, bakeries, or even wine tasting, depending on your interests. Often including tastings of food, wine, or liquor and insights into food production, food tours are a deep dive into local flavors and culinary practices.

At Tasty Itinerary, we think of it as a “foodie adventure” – a unique opportunity to sample, learn, and fall in love with local eats and drinks you might otherwise miss, all while having fun and trying new things.

A Food Tour Looks Like This

  • Meet and Greet : Your guide will welcome you at your meeting point, provide an overview of the tour you’re about to take, and introduce the city’s highlights.
  • First Bite : You’ll have your first taste, usually at a local bakery or café, sampling the city’s typical breakfast fare. Unless it’s an afternoon or evening tour.
  • Culinary Exploration : Part of a food tour is embarking on a walking tour through the city, stopping at local markets, eateries, and specialty shops to taste a variety of local specialties.
  • Diverse Dining : Experiences may include on-the-go street food tastings and-or sit-down meals at restaurants.
  • Learn and Taste : The food they introduce all comes with a story—learn about its history, production, and cultural significance.
  • Insider Tips : This is one of the most valuable parts of a food tour. Your guide will provide personal recommendations at other must-visit spots to eat, drink, and local gems to explore.

Practical Tips to Book a Food Tour

Now that we know what a food tour is, here are some practical tips to help you book and take a food tour during your next vacation.

During a private food tour in Girona, Spain , hubby got a lesson on how to slice jamón. And I fell in love with one of my favorite pastries to date, the local pastry of Girona called a Xiuxo.

1. Do Your Research

First things first: do some homework.

  • Ask friends or family who’ve visited the destination about their food tour experiences.
  • Read reviews on tour companies and individual guides on platforms like Viator , WithLocals , and Devour Tours .
  • Join travel Facebook groups for insider recommendations.
  • Aim for high-rated tours and rave reviews because these tours are vetted for.

2. Check What’s Included

tour a restaurant

Not all food tours are created equal.

  • Read the description of the itinerary. See how many stops are planned and what kind of tastings are in store.
  • Are you into paying for the guide and then paying for the food you choose to eat during the tour, or does an all-included fee sound more cost-effective?
  • Sometimes, splurging a bit on a private tour can offer a different perspective, and you can tailor it as you wish.

Foodie Tip: Above all, embracing new flavors and experiences is at the heart of what makes a food tour truly memorable.

3. Find a Tour That Fits Your Budget

Your budget will dictate a lot of your choices. Food tours can range from modest to extravagant, especially in cities like Rome, Paris, or New York, where the cost of living (and dining) is higher. Weigh the experience against the expense to find your sweet spot.

4. Check the Meeting Point and Schedule

We tried Tigella, a typical food from Modena, for the first time during a food tour. We had never heard of it until then.

Logistics matter. Look at where your food journey starts and ends and how it fits your accommodation and transportation plans. Timing is just as crucial; you want a tour that syncs up with your day without making you rush or miss out.

Pro Tip: Book your tour around breakfast or lunchtime, or make it a dinner adventure. That way, it doubles as a meal, filling you up with delicious experiences.

5. Communicate With Your Tour Company and Guide

tortellini being made by hand during a food tour in bologna

On a food tour in Bologna, we visited a pasta factory where several ladies made tortellini by hand.

Got questions? Dietary restrictions? Need to cancel or reschedule? Get in touch with your tour provider early on to smooth out any wrinkles before they become crinkles. A little pre-tour communication goes a long way in ensuring your food tour is as seamless as it is scrumptious.

Foodie Tip: We recommend touching base with your guide before you arrive; their insider tips on where to eat and what to see can be as valuable as the tour itself. You can start planning and making reservations.

Where to Book a Food Tour?

We always start our research and book most of the tours on these sites with great success. It’s a great starting point in finding one that fits your needs.

What is a food tour called?

A food tour goes by many names: culinary tour, foodie tour, gourmet tour, but here at Tasty Itinerary, we prefer “foodie adventure.”

How would you describe a food tour?

A food tour is an exciting experience for food enthusiasts, guided by a local expert passionate about showcasing their city’s best culinary offerings and traditions. It’s a chance to immerse oneself in the distinctive flavors of a location, accompanied by a fellow food lover.

tour a restaurant

It’s common to visit fresh local markets and specialty stores during food tours.

Why do people go on food tours?

People go on food tours to sample and learn about local eats and drinks they might miss if they were exploring on their own. Spending time with a local foodie makes the experience unique, as who better to learn from than someone passionate about local cuisine? Plus, it’s just fun to eat and try new foods!

How does a food tour work?

A food tour typically starts with meeting your guide, who leads you through 5 to 8 culinary stops, offering tastes and sips of the locale’s specialties. These tours can be private or in small groups of 6 to 10 people, lasting about three to four hours to ensure a more personal and manageable experience. The goal is to keep things intimate, making navigating and soaking in every delicious moment easier.

What is included in a food tour?

What you’ll get on a food tour varies with each company or guide. Typically, tours include a mix of guided walks and tastings of local foods and drinks, ensuring you get a hearty experience of the local cuisine. The amount and variety of food depend on the tour and location, but the aim is always to leave you happily satisfied.

Be aware that some tours offer just the guide’s expertise, leading you through the city’s culinary spots, where you pay for what you eat as you go. This approach lets you pick what tempts your taste buds but requires more flexibility and budgeting. Always check the tour details to know exactly what’s included and make the best choice for your appetite and curiosity.

Are food tours worth it?

Yes, we believe food tours are worth it and a great way to learn about a destination through its food, as it is part of its culture. The value you get from what you eat and drink and the bonus of having a great guide to show you around make it an amazing and worthwhile experience.

drinking coconut milkshake in mazatlan

It was hot in Mazatlan, so I wore a tank top, shorts, and a hat on our food tour.

What do you wear to a food tour?

Unless specified, be comfortable and stay casual. Always wear comfortable shoes as you will walk a lot during the tour when you’re not sitting down to eat.

Do you tip your food tour guide?

Always tip your food tour guide, especially if they’ve done a fantastic job.

Harris and Walz Venture Into Less-Friendly Terrain to Court Pennsylvania Voters

The Democratic presidential ticket went to the crucial swing state on Sunday to visit areas that are competitive and somewhat more conservative.

Kamala Harris stands and smiles while three people cheer behind her. From left are Doug Emhoff, her husband; Tim Walz and Gwen Walz, his wife.

By Rebecca Davis O’Brien and Nicholas Nehamas

Rebecca Davis O’Brien reported from Pittsburgh, and Nicholas Nehamas reported from Washington.

  • Aug. 18, 2024

Before their convention this week that will signal the final sprint to November, Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, headed out on a brief bus tour on Sunday to fire up voters in perhaps the most crucial battleground state in the 2024 election.

As they toured western Pennsylvania, their play for support beyond the state’s more liberal cities was apparent at the team’s first stop, a field office in Rochester, Pa., in the largely conservative Beaver County: Ms. Harris picked up a volunteer’s cellphone to speak with a resident from Erie, a northwestern city in one of the state’s swingiest counties, which Hillary Clinton lost in 2016 but Joseph R. Biden Jr. won four years later.

“I love Erie,” Ms. Harris said. “At some point we’ll get to Erie.”

Ms. Harris and Mr. Walz were joined on the outing by their spouses, Doug Emhoff and Gwen Walz, traveling in two new campaign buses from the Pittsburgh airport, where they arrived on Air Force Two to greet a small group of supporters.

The Pittsburgh and Philadelphia areas are the two main drivers of Democratic support in Pennsylvania, a state whose 19 electoral votes could decide the presidency. Recent polling shows a neck-and-neck race there between Ms. Harris and former President Donald J. Trump, with some surveys showing Ms. Harris gaining a narrow edge recently.

Mr. Trump is also increasing his presence in Pennsylvania: On Saturday he held a rally in Wilkes-Barre and another is set in York on Monday, while Senator JD Vance of Ohio, his running mate, campaigns in Philadelphia.

Both candidates have used their trips in the state to make attacks.

Speaking to a crowd of supporters outside the Rochester campaign office on Sunday, Ms. Harris appeared to suggest that Mr. Trump was a “coward” — just a day after he had called her a “radical” and a “lunatic” in Wilkes-Barre.

“Over the last several years there’s been this kind of perversion that has taken place, I think, which is to suggest that the measure of the strength of a leader is based on who you beat down,” Ms. Harris said — though she did not name Mr. Trump. “Anybody who’s about beating down other people is a coward.”

President Biden often preferred to campaign in Philadelphia, by far the state’s largest metro area. The city is easily reached from Washington and close to his home state of Delaware, nestled in friendly territory surrounded by counties he carried in 2020 .

Outside Allegheny County, where Pittsburgh sits, western Pennsylvania is less hospitable to Democrats, and Ms. Harris’s visit there suggests she may branch out more than Mr. Biden did.

“God bless them, they need to,” Nancy Cannon, a retired teacher who showed up at the Pittsburgh airport, said of the campaign’s planned visits. She described a landscape of Trump supporters, where she knew of Democrats who were afraid to put out their own lawn signs. “Maybe they would feel more supported,” she said, if Ms. Harris and Mr. Walz showed up.

Ms. Cannon said Ms. Harris’s swift ascent to the top of the Democratic ticket had given a jolt of energy to her family and friends. “I love Joe. But I am happier to see a younger person. I feel like this is an Obama moment.”

The trip points to the Democratic hopes that Mr. Walz can help the party reach working-class voters outside the big cities. The suburbs and small towns surrounding Pittsburgh resemble areas in Minnesota where Mr. Walz has performed well in his previous races.

One campaign stop on Sunday was also a clear effort to tap into Mr. Walz’s personal history: a football practice at Aliquippa High School in a former steel town with many Black residents that has struggled economically for decades. Mr. Walz’s own experience as a high school football coach has been a touchstone of the campaign so far, with Ms. Harris occasionally referring to him as “Coach Walz.”

Mr. Walz told the team he “remembered every single call” from his team’s state football championship. He and Ms. Harris were joined at the event by Jerome Bettis, the Hall of Fame running back who won a Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mr. Bettis, nicknamed The Bus, was a surprise, if appropriately named, addition to the Harris-Walz motor coach tour, which also made short stops at a nearby firehouse, a Sheetz gas station and Primanti Bros., a beloved chain of sandwich shops founded in Pittsburgh.

“The way you win elections in Pennsylvania is literally going everywhere,” said Lt. Gov. Austin Davis of Pennsylvania, a Democrat who is from the Pittsburgh area. “Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, but all the small communities in between.”

Mr. Davis also said that Ms. Harris would find a welcome audience in the working-class region for the economic agenda she rolled out last week that focused on lowering the costs of everyday life and cutting taxes for working families.

Conor Lamb, a Democrat who once represented a congressional district outside Pittsburgh, said Mr. Biden had become well known to many Pennsylvania voters, thanks to his decades of service as a senator in neighboring Delaware, an advantage Ms. Harris does not possess.

Mr. Lamb said that the bus tour reflected the fact that Democrats had learned their lesson from Mrs. Clinton losing the state after focusing most of her campaign on the major cities.

“You can’t just do Philly and Pittsburgh and rely on social media,” Mr. Lamb said.

And he agreed that Ms. Harris’s economic plans would be popular in places like Rochester, a small town once known for its glassmaking factories that sits in his old district.

“Some of the things that she laid out in that speech — the child tax credit, extending health care subsidies — all that kind of stuff is just universal,” Mr. Lamb said. “That should do as well in Rochester as it does in the heart of the city of Pittsburgh. And I’ve felt in the past that Democrats were a little bit afraid to go on the offense in those areas.”

Invision Studio - The Premier Restaurant Virtual Tour Provider

Restaurant’s profitability thrives on food and beverage margins, where the highest costs are empty tables. A busy restaurant can see an average of hundreds or thousands of customers everyday. As a restaurant owner, it should be expected, yet you still find yourself being consumed by daily operations and never ending shifts. From making sure customers are always pleased with the service and food, to having a hard-working staff that remains focused and able to perform – your day is draining enough, so why take on more task?

Invision Studio helps your restaurant by providing it with a valuable marketing tool to drive customers into your restaurants and fill its empty tables. Restaurant Virtual Tours and Aerial Photography Services from Invision Studio are two powerful and incredible ways to give the world a taste of a Restaurant’s dining experience before they even sit down to eat. Using 360 virtual tours, high definition HDR Property Photography, and Aerial Photography Services allows any restaurant owner the ability to showcase the property’s aesthetic and atmosphere that will consistently generate new business and keep new customers coming through their Restaurant doors.

Furthermore, if a restaurant hosts corporate or private events, this is the perfect tool to give the potential client a workable vision of the entire space for planning and ultimately making their decision to host the event at their Restaurant. People are always looking for spaces to host corporate events, birthdays, engagements, graduations, or any other occasion, so why not make their decision easier? Invision Studio provides Restaurant customers with a virtual look at how a restaurant can accommodate their needs.

Restaurant 360 Virtual Tours are more than just a virtual experience!

A restaurant virtual tour can incorporate additional special features such as:

  • Linking a video that can emphasize the warm and welcoming aesthetic you desire.
  • Info boxes which can display coupons and/or highlight daily specials, happy hour, etc.
  • Provide links to Yelp and other critical social media pages.

On top of just providing a 360 Viewing experience for the customer, this state-of-the-art photography technology will strengthen a business’ web presence and positively affect the number of website views. It can also help extend the duration of each site visit. These numbers go a long way toward optimizing a restaurant’s website and increasing the chance of people finding your Restaurant easily online.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions.

Should I have people or models in my Restaurant Virtual Tour or Restaurant Photography Shoot?

Typically not. However, if you would like your Restaurant Photography to reflect the lively nature then yes, we would recommend having models. However, everyone participating must sign a model release form.

Do you shoot Restaurant Virtual Tours at night?

Yes, we try to shoot any exteriors of Restaurant Virtual Tours at dusk or during the first hour after sunset (we call this blue hour) before the sky is too dark to pull light from. Any and all interior images can be taken at night as long as the room has lights in it.

How do you guys recommend we set up our Restaurant for a Restaurant Virtual Tour?

Set up your Restaurant as if it was ready to be open for the night. Plates, forks, knifes, napkins, candles, flower vases, etc., all neatly displayed and everything clean and tidy.

What's the best time to shoot a Restaurant Virtual Tour? Day or night time?

If your restaurant is bright cheery and lively, we recommend shooting your virtual tour during the daytime. If restaurant has a more warm, elegant style them we recommend shoot the restaurant photography at night.

How far ahead of the projected shoot day should we schedule our restaurant virtual tour or Restaurant Photography?

About 1 week out for local. 3 weeks out for out of area Restaurant Photo Shoots due to travel arrangements.

Do you recommend we do a walkthrough of our Restaurant before scheduling a Virtual Tour?

We don't usually recommend it, as our team is well versed in planning a Restaurant Photo shoot over the phone based on the details provided. However, walkthroughs are usually best to decide what focal points you want each panorama to cover and to get a better understanding of how many panoramas you want you want for your Restaurant Virtual Tour.

Should we set up our lighting and candles in our Restaurant if we have any?

We usually tell our clients to set up your location as if you were opening up for the night to the public. If your tables have candles and the lighting system has guided routes, effects, and color changes, then we recommend you set it all up for the Restaurant Virtual Tour.

Is it best to shoot a Restaurant Virtual Tour with or without our staff in the photo?

Although we typically don’t recommend it for Architectural Photography, our goal is to make every Virtual Tour feel as real as possible. Having staff and potential customers in the shoot gives viewers a genuine and authentic feel of your fine dining experience.

Do you shoot in the kitchen?

Typically not, unless your kitchen has any proprietary features that you would like to showcase in the Restaurant Photography.

Do I need Aerial Photography Services for a Restaurant?

Aerial Photography Services offer a unique vantage point that enables restaurants to capture superb shots that would not be possible from the ground. Most likely our Aerial Photography Services would be used more for elevated shots when it comes to Restaurants.

Can customers book reservations from Restaurant Virtual Tour?

Yes, our Real Estate Virtual Tour Software has the capability of incorporating a "Book Reservations" button onto the 360 Tour itself. From this feature, a customer can be viewing a restaurant virtual tour and if their interested is peaked and they decide to dine there, they can simply click a button and reserve a table instantly.

Do you offer Multi-restaurant packages for your Restaurant Virtual Tour or Property Photography Services?

Yes, if your Restaurants have multiple locations, we can offer a discount based on the number of Properties we will be photographing and the length of the contract.

Can I embed my menu into my Restaurant Virtual Tour?

Yes, our state-of-the-art Restaurant Virtual Tour Platform has the capability to embed your Restaurant Menu into the Virtual Tour through custom HTML5 coding.

Can I embed my Wine list to my Restaurant Virtual Tour?

Do you allow our Restaurant to brand itself through the 360 Tour or Property Photography Images?

Yes, we make it very easy to embed social icons into your Restaurant Virtual Tour which can be accessed with one click right from the live tour itself.

Is it easy to add music into the Restaurant Virtual Tour?

Yes, audio such as music or voiceovers can be integrated and layered into any Restaurant Virtual Tour. This feature is great to set the mood or to allow a voiceover to guide and assist you through a Restaurant Virtual Tour.

Dumpling News

Chinese restaurant famed for dumplings to open in highland village.

Dragon House dumpling

Dragon House dumpling

A Chinese restaurant serving steamed dumplings and hand-pulled noodles is coming soon to Highland Village: Called Dragon House , it will open in the former Snuffer’s space in The Shops at Highland Village at 4050 Barton Creek, next door to the AMC theater.

This is the second location of a restaurant that started out in Southlake. According to a spokesperson, it'll open in October.

It'll have some of the staples that are beloved at the Southlake location, including soup dumplings, hand-pulled noodles, and fried rice, but with additional entrees as well as a greater selection of drinks and desserts. (The current dessert menu, which is limited to four choices, features fried red bean maize pancakes and doughy mochi ice cream in three flavors: mango, vanilla, and strawberry.)

“Of course, we remain dedicated to serving the diverse and flavorful Chinese cuisine that has made us a local favorite,” the spokesperson says.

Dragon House debuted at 2640 E. Southlake Blvd. in Wyndham Plaza in 2019, quickly drawing a loyal following, particularly for its steamed dumplings, pan fried pork buns with a crispy brown underside coated with sesame seeds, and pork wontons in chili sauce.

They also have Chinese classics, such as orange chicken, General Tso's chicken, scallion beef, and lo mein noodles, plus beer and wine.

The restaurant has had an interesting history: After it opened, its original owner was arrested in a prostitution sting. The manager and employees took over, reopening the restaurant after it closed briefly amid the events.

In July, the restaurant was taken over by JJ Food & Beverage, a hospitality group who are expanding the concept.

The vibe of this new space will be more elevated with an upgraded interior design and a more welcoming ambiance. This location won’t be without live noodle pulling by hand demonstrations, either. A glimpse inside the new restaurant, as seen in a rendering , shows low-hanging lights, a private dining room with a sliding door for added privacy, and a full bar.

This week in gluttony

These are the 5 best food and drink events in fort worth this week.

School is back in session for most students this week, but on the food event scene, summer is still in full swing. There's a summer whiskey tasting, summer Sunday supper, and a summertime afternoon tea, Texas-style (meaning the tea will be iced). Plan for a free wine tasting on Friday to kick off the weekend.

Wednesday, August 21

Summer Sipping Series at Ellerbe Fine Foods The last of Ellerbe Fine Foods’ summer tasting series – which coincided with the farm-to-table restaurant’s 15 th anniversary – will feature whiskey. Guests will enjoy a guided whiskey tasting highlighting regional variations and learn how to craft whiskey cocktails with recipes to take home. The event is $50 and begins at 6 pm.

Friday, August 23

Free Wine Tasting at Roy Pope Grocery Roy Pope Grocery recently rebooted with new ownership, and Friday means it’s time for their new complimentary wine tasting, which features a new varietal and vineyard each week. Visit anytime from 5–7 pm.

Saturday, August 24

Wine Dinner at Los Vaqueros West The new Willow Park outlet of the Fort Worth Tex-Mex institution (whose original Stockyards location is currently on the move ), will host its first wine dinner featuring four courses by new chef Manny Vasquez . Wine pairings will be from historic Spanish vineyard Herederos Del Marques de Riscal. Standout menu items include garlic shrimp over jalapeno Monterrey Jack grits with a sherry butter sauce, braised short rib with whipped Yukon potatoes, and triple chocolate mousse. Dinner is $75 plus tax and gratuity, and begins at 6 pm.

Sunday, August 25

Texas Afternoon Tea at The Londoner Colleyville The longtime British-inspired bar and restaurant will host a Sunday afternoon tea service, Texas-style. The menu includes cheese and charcuterie, scone with clotted cream, tea sandwiches, fruit parfait, macaron, Victoria sponge cake, sparkling wine, and – because it’s August in Texas – iced tea. Price is $38 plus tax and gratuity, and the tea service will run from 12–3 pm. A la carte menu options will be available.

Summer Sunday Supper at Rosen House Inn Chef Victor Villarreal will visit the Near Southside bed and breakfast for a pop-up Sunday supper. Courses include champagne ricotta salad, red snapper with rose aguachile, smoked butter poached swordfish, and a surprise dessert by Dallas’ Nena Postreria. Drink pairings are included, while they last. Dinner is $120, plus gratuity, and begins at 6 pm.
