The on-site restaurant, famous for its French-American fare and spectacular wine list, is also not to be missed.

Main Street 

Dating back to 1745, Main Street serves as Sag Harbor’s central hub. The picturesque nine-block stretch is teeming with eclectic shopping and dining offerings — but more on those later. Additionally, you can easily spend an entire afternoon here popping in and out of stores and people-watching, stopping for coffee, cocktails, and snacks along the way. 

Sag Harbor is home to several serene stretches of sand, including the beloved Havens Beach. The calm waters make it a popular pick amongst families. The mile-long Foster Memorial Beach is another excellent option. Meanwhile, Windmill Beach is just steps from Main Street, and Circle Beach is a great place to watch the sunset.

Bay Street Theater

According to Vazquez, a visit to Bay Street Theater is an absolute must. “In the summer, they also offer kids camps, giving families another reason to love the theater; parents can relax while their children are entertained!”  Additionally, the venue often hosts concerts, workshops, masterclasses, and more, so be sure to check the events calendar . 

Elizabeth Alexandra Morton National Wildlife Refuge

This 187-acre wildlife refuge is a popular spot for hiking and  — you guessed it — spotting wildlife such as white-tailed deer, turkeys, songbirds, and turtles. Spend the morning walking along the 1.2-mile-long Wild Birds Nature Trail, which winds through wooded areas and the beach. Visitors can also stroll nearly two miles on the beach along Jessup’s Neck Peninsula. 

Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum

History buffs can learn more about the destination’s fascinating whaling history at the Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum . Housed inside an 1845-era building right on Main Street, the museum is home to a vast collection of historical objects along with more contemporary exhibits.

Thriftknd — which gets its name from its owner, Brittany Rivkind — offers an array of vintage and pre-owned apparel and accessories to suit every style. But that’s not all: The shop also sells fun items like cheeky greeting cards, colorful planners, and even locally made dog treats.

“ Bloom is a fabulous little antique and furniture store,” says Vazquez. “It’s perfect for anyone looking to furnish their dream Hamptons house or take a piece of the Hamptons back home.” Expect a specially curated selection of beachy-chic hostess gifts, tableware, and accessories. 

Sag Harbor Books

Established in May 2019, this lovely little independent bookstore is a fairly new addition to the neighborhood. Literary lovers will appreciate the wide variety of reading materials, ranging from splashy coffee table books to beach reads and beyond. Plus, says Vazquez, “The whale logo on their storefront is a nice nod to ‘Moby Dick .’” 

Sylvester & Co. Modern General

Helmed by designer and artist Lynda Sylvester, Sylvester & Co. Modern General is the chicest general store we’ve ever seen — which, given its Sag Harbor locale, is no surprise. Shoppers can find (pretty much) anything, including bespoke furnishings, colorful pickleball paddles, stylish barware, artisanal soap, baby clothes, and gourmet chocolates. Before checking out, grab a cold brew at the on-site coffee bar — where you’ll encounter a much shorter line than Jack’s Stir Brew , which is just a few steps away.

Best Restaurants in Sag Harbor 

Le bilbouquet.

If you’re looking for an over-the-top lunch scene, Vazquez recommends heading straight to Le Bilbouquet . The French eatery, best known for its iconic Upper East Side flagship location, attracts well-heeled locals and travelers alike. Come for the signature Cajun chicken or tuna tartare – best enjoyed with a glass of rosé, of course — and stay for the harbor views and people-watching opportunities. If you’re lucky, you may be able to spot a celeb or two. 

Tutto Il Giorno

For excellent Italian cuisine, look no further than Tutto Il Giorno , which Vazquez describes as a “Sag Harbor staple” thanks to its fun vibe and killer pasta dishes (do yourself a favor and order the rigatoni with spicy sausage). Try snagging a table outdoors, where you’ll be surrounded by lush greenery, blooming hydrangeas, and twinkling lights — setting the scene for a picture-perfect meal. 

Grindstone Coffee & Donuts

Start your mornings at Grindstone Coffee & Donuts , which offers an ever-changing daily selection of small-batch brioche and cake donuts (flavors run the gamut from lemon poppy seed to strawberry glazed to churro). Bonus: All glazes and fillings are made in-house with locally sourced organic ingredients. Pair your pastry with a classic hot or iced coffee, or, for something sweet, opt for a mocha or honey lavender latte. 

Lulu Kitchen & Bar

Wood-fired cooking is on full display at the Mediterranean-inspired Lulu Kitchen & Bar . The restaurant boasts a cozy ambiance, making it the ideal date night spot. Diners can feast on mouthwatering menu items such as extravagant seafood towers, wood-fired pizzas, steak tartare, and, last but not least, the signature heirloom cauliflower served with spicy grapes, yogurt, Aleppo pepper, roasted sesame seeds, and balsamic glaze. Wash it all down with a specialty cocktail – you can’t go wrong with the daiquiri —  and save room for dessert (the strawberry sundae and profiteroles are two of our favorites). 

Best Time to Visit Sag Harbor 

The best time to visit Sag Harbor is between May and October, which overlaps with the destination's peak season (though parts of May and September, along with October, are considered shoulder seasons). During this time, travelers can enjoy warm, sunny weather (read: plenty of beach days and al fresco meals). Also, it's worth noting that some shops, restaurants, and hotels are only open seasonally.

However, that’s not to say you have to visit in the summer to have a great time. Moreover, Vazquez notes that “Sag Harbor is really a year-round destination" and that visiting outside of June, July, or August is "when you will find it to be the most charming.” For example, Vazquez tells Travel + Leisure that “even though it might be chilly,” Sag Harbor is “a cozy spot around the winter holidays.” Additionally, keep in mind that during the off-season, you’ll be able to enjoy fewer crowds and lower prices — a win-win, in our book.

“The ideal way to travel to Sag Harbor is by car because you will want your car to get around once you arrive,” says Vazquez. No car? No problem. From New York City, hop on the Hampton Jitney , which will drop you off right on Main Street; just note that the schedule varies depending on the season. You can also take the Long Island Railroad to Bridgehampton, a 10-minute Uber ride away. 

Travelers hoping to avoid the traffic and the crowds altogether can splurge on a quick 40-minute helicopter ride from Manhattan to East Hampton (a nine-minute drive from Sag Harbor) with Blade . Lastly, Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip is about 55 miles away, followed by John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia International Airport, which are both around 93 miles away.  

Once you’re in Sag Harbor, getting around is relatively easy, considering its small size and walkability. However, if you want to explore the surrounding towns and villages, renting a car is best. (Fortunately, companies like Hertz and Enterprise have several locations throughout the Hamptons.) While taxis and ride-share services are available, they’re not cheap — and the cost can add up quickly.

Mentioned in Herman Melville’s famed book, Moby Dick, Sag Harbor lies just between the villages of East Hampton and Southampton in Suffolk County. Settled in the early 1700s Sag Harbor became a prosperous harbor and the first commercial port in the United States. Sag Harbor had the first newspaper printed on Long Island, the first volunteer fire company in New York, and the first custom house in the United States.

Most of Sag Harbor is on the National Register of Historic Places so all exterior reconstructions must first be approved by the local Board of Historic Preservation and Architectural Review. The village has a lot of pride in its history and works very hard to preserve, commemorate, and share their past.

Sag Harbor Cinema 90 Main St, Sag Harbor, NY 11963   Sag Harbor Cinema, a classic theater founded in the 1920s, features art house and foreign films and is one of the last remaining continuously running single screens in Suffolk County . A perfect place for cinema lovers to visit and catch a film.

Fun For Kids Kids will have a blast in Sag Harbor walking around the unique village, taking in the old buildings, and trying some homemade ice cream. There is an animal refuge where you can feed birds right from your hand and a puppet theater to entertain the little ones.

Elizabeth A. Morton National Wildlife Refuge 2595 Noyac Rd, Sag Harbor, NY 11963   Established in 1954 this 187 acre wildlife refuge is an awesome place to go for a hike, take in the diverse habitats, and snap some photos along the way. Don’t forget to bring along bird seed, wild birds will feed right from your hands! Kids will have a blast being so close to nature.

Mouthwatering Restaurants Sag Harbor has many independent restaurants lining the streets of the village. With cuisines ranging from seafood (of course) to Italian, American to Mexican it’s nearly impossible not to find at least one restaurant that will satisfy everyone’s palate.

Dock House  1 Long Wharf, Sag Harbor, NY 11963   This cozy, little restaurant specializes in seafood and is right across from the Sag Harbor beach area. They have award-winning chowders and will prepare your seafood any way you like it. They also offer fresh seafood and lobster for you to cook at home.

Estia’s Little Kitchen   1615 Bridgehampton Sag Harbor Turnpike, Sag Harbor, NY 11963 631-725-1045  Estia’s serves delicious food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a Mexican flair. Be sure to try their seasonal specials throughout the year. They even serve fresh vegetables right from their garden out back.

Tutto Il Giorno   6 Bay St, Sag Harbor, NY 11963 631-725-7009 Tutto Il Giorno is an Italian restaurant that has everything from flavorful pasta dishes to scrumptious soups. They also have a charming outdoor patio where you can eat and look out at the marina.

If you’d like to plan a day trip or weekend getaway to Sag Harbor there are a couple of different ways to get there. If you plan on driving out on the southern fork to Sag Harbor take Route 27/Sunrise highway until you see Route 79 to Sag Harbor. From there just follow the signs. You can also take a bus to Sag Harbor. Companies like Hampton Jitney will drive out there and drop you off right in the middle of town. Taking the train is also a transportation option. Take the Long Island Rail Road  to the Bridgehampton stop then Bridgehampton is only a few miles from Sag Harbor.

The Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum was constructed in 1847, costing $7,000. It aims at providing education about the historical events that placed the village on the map.

The museum has amazing displays and some of them the lives of the whalers and the history of Sag Harbor before the depletion of the whale trade began.

The building used to be under the ownership of whaling ship owner Benjamin Huntting II and his family before it became a museum.

This hotel came into existence during the peak of the whaling area, as it was constructed in 1846. The building was one whaling store and one part boarding house at that time.

It wasn’t all rosy, because a period came when the building went through years of neglect. However, it was restored during the 1970s.

Today, eight rooms are open for reservations, and each of them has fantastic decor and unique antiques to make your stay memorable.

Apart from the little luxuries which the rooms offer, the hotel also has a restaurant that boasts an excellent wine list.

4. Stop at the Old Whaler Church

The building was constructed in 1844 in Egyptian Revival Style and its architecture has Greek Revival Style elements as well as a 185-foot steeple as a feature. It is sad though as a hurricane destroyed the steeple in 1938.

The Sag Harbor Historical Society is an essential place to visit for any historical fan in Sag Harbor. The landmark, now a museum, used to be a house owned by Annie Cooper Boyd.

It was managed by the Historical Society at one point causing it to be the museum it is today. This museum contains multiple artifacts and displays of interest.

You will find so much to see, from hundreds of documents to thousands of letters and even boxes worth of historical clothing. Even if that isn’t enough, in the back area is a version of the whaleboat shop owned by William Cooper.

7. Shop at Wharf Shop

The Wharf Shop is a family-owned specialty toy and gift store located in the heart of Sag Harbor Village.

Having started and still existing on Hag Harbor’s Main Street since 1968, Nada Barry and her daughter, Gwen Waddington, have owned this traditional toy store for over 50 years.

They have toys for all age categories, including puzzles, craft kits, games, science kits, stuffed animals, children’s books, miniature dollhouse furniture, dollhouses, and more.

There are also Sag Harbor onesies and adorable outfits for newborns up to 24 months.

The grown-ups are as well taken care of, thanks to the available local and distinctive gifts, stationery, jewelry, and greeting cards.

Staff at Wharf Shop are ready and willing to help your shopping through suggestions and a unique mix of toys and gifts. As usual, they continue to offer free gift wrapping.

8. Catch a show at the Bay Street Theatre

First opened in 1991, the Bay Street Theatre is currently located on the Long Wharf. It is known as the Bay Street Theater and the Sag Harbor Center for the Arts in full, with the center aimed at grooming a love for visual and performing arts within the local community.

9. Fun time at Foster Memorial Beach

Foster Memorial Beach is a town beach in Sag Harbor. It is commonly known as Long Beach and spans one mile on the Noyac Bay – do not confuse it with the town of Long Beach in Nassau County.

It is open for visitation; however, permits are required to enter Foster Memorial Beach between May 15 and June 25 from 9 am to 6 pm.

They allow dogs into the beach area but that should be only on the mapped out dog walk routes.

Foster Memorial Beach has amenities such as restrooms, showers, and sand wheelchairs all available for visitors.

11. Learn something new at Custom House Museum

In the early 1790s, Henry Packer Dering acquired the property. He was Sag Harbor’s first United States custom master.

The house was initially situated at the corner of Union and Church Streets before it was moved to its current site in 1948 by the Old Sagg-Harbour Committee to save it from destruction.

In 1966, the property was secured by Preservation Long Island (formerly the Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities). Today, Custom House Museum is viewed as a reflection of the work and daily activities of Dering, his wife, and nine children.

This museum is open from Monday through Sunday (10:00 AM – 5:00 PM).

If you want to go on a boat cruise in this village, Sag Harbor Charters is a wonderful boat tour in the Hamptons.

They offer very comfortable and safe trips around Shelter Island where you can take in the beautiful bay and see the stately homes of the Hamptons.

The boat used for this tour is the “Marlinspike” – a 36-foot lobster yacht made of wood. It has plenty of shade, a swim ladder, a complete kitchen, and a bathroom. So, you can enjoy great services including lunch or dinner.

22. See a movie at Sag Harbor Cinema

If not for a fire attack that destroyed this theater back in 2016, Harbor Cinema would have been one of the older buildings in Sag Harbor to date.

It took years of deliberation, planning, and hesitation before the building reopened in June 2021. One special thing to note about the cinema, other than streaming films from different periods, is that one can become a member.

There are all kinds of perks to becoming a member of Sag Harbor Cinema aside from just getting discounts for services.

23. Go Sunbathing at Main Beach

One of the many beaches you can visit in Sag Harbor is the Main Beach. Located within Southampton Town, this beach is so different because it requires permits.

If you want a short visit to the beach, you can go for daily passes during the weekdays. Apart from daily passes, there are seasonal permits for senior citizens, residents, and non-residents.

A good time to visit the beach is around 10 a.m. to 5 p.m, because the lifeguards are on duty, but you can stay until 9 p.m.

Please remember that there are a fair amount of restrictions before you visit this beach. These restrictions include the forbidding of amplified music, camping, and bonfires.

24. Havens Beach

Havens Beach is a public beach on Sag Harbor Bay and its only beach. 

The beach is a lovely Peconic Bay treasure, with a distant view of Shelter Island’s coast and sailboats on the sleek bay waters. 

Amenities of Haven Beach include a gazebo, wheelchair-accessible bathrooms, and a playground. 

Haven Beach is a Tier II beach. Fires, alcohol, and cars are prohibited on the beach.

The quaint village of Sag Harbor on eastern Long Island is partly in Southampton and partly in East Hampton, but it has a different vibe than the Hamptons. Just two hours by car from New York City, Sag Harbor has a long recorded history. It was founded by English colonists in the early 1700s, and during the American Revolution, the New York Patriots fled to Sag Harbor to escape on boats going to Connecticut. In the late 1700s, Sag Harbor was a major whaling port, making and exporting valuable whale oil, which was used for lighting lamps.

It became an international port. The whaling industry peaked in the mid-1800s, and it was mentioned in a number of chapters of Moby Dick . Just after July 4th in 1789, Sag Harbor was made the first official port of entry to the United States and had a customs house, the first on Long Island, for incoming ships to pay tariffs to enter the country.

In the 1800s, the ships in the Sag Harbor ports were filled with sailors going to California for the Gold Rush.

Sag Harbor has attracted many artists and writers including John Steinbeck, Spalding Gray, E. L. Doctorow, and poet George Sterling. Here are the best things to do in Sag Harbor — and on Shelter Island — if you make it there yourself.

Sag Harbor proudly maintains its heritage with many of the original buildings from the 1700 and 1800s still standing, including the Old Whalers Church, the John Jermain Library, and a windmill.

Sag Harbor Whaling And Historical Museum

A handsome Greek Revival-style building with Corinthian pillars at the entrance, the Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum was once the palatial home of whaling ship owner Benjamin Huntting II and his family and today is a certified National Treasure that’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum contains artifacts and objects used on whaling ships including harpoons, knives, figureheads, whale ivory, whale vertebrae, and shipbuilding tools, plus paintings of whale hunts. The museum also presents contemporary exhibitions related to the culture of Sag Harbor today and yesterday.

Sag Harbor Historical Society

An 18th-century house is now the home of the Sag Harbor Historical Society, which features historic exhibitions and lectures and is open to the public on weekends. In the back of the museum is a replica of a well-known whale boat shop from the 1800s, which contains a small collection of boat building tools and a video about the whaling industry in the town.

The Society is committed to the preservation of books, photography, and art, including a collection of over 300 books, maps, and bibles, hundreds of documents such as family, house, and church histories, a photo collection of local landmarks, and boxes of period clothing.

Old Whalers Church

The Old Whalers Church also known as the First Presbyterian Church, is the most prestigious landmark in Sag Harbor and one of the finest examples of Egyptian revival style in the U.S. Constructed in 1844 by Minard Lafever, a noted architect of the time, it has classic Greek and Egyptian features. When it was constructed, the 185-foot-tall steeple was visible to ships entering Montauk harbor 21 miles away.

The church still has a First Presbyterian congregation and hosts services every Sunday.

Bay Street Theater

The Bay Street Theater is a non-profit, regional theater with 299 seats. The theater is run by Emma Walton Hamilton, Julie Andrews’s daughter. Bay Street stages revivals and original plays and musicals, some of which have moved to Broadway and Off-Broadway. They also have a comedy club. Notable actors Mercedes Ruehl, Dianne Wiest, Sarah Paulson, J. Smith Cameron, Ellen Burstyn, and Hal Linden have starred in plays at Bay Street.

It’s no coincidence that Sag Harbor has great seafood, and at The Dock House , it doesn’t get any fresher. Located on the fishing wharf in Sag Harbor, The Dock House restaurant has a homey feel, and they also have a market and takeout dishes. There’s an across-the-board seafood selection including fresh lobster, crab cakes, steamers, mussels, oysters, clams, swordfish, and grilled tuna. Try their award-winning clam chowder.

Page At 63 Main

Specializing in local, organic cuisine, Page At 63 Main is a local institution. Open for lunch and dinner, dishes include local oysters, crispy fried calamari, vegan grain and vegetable bowls, and Parmesan truffle fries. There’s a casual cafe and takeout counter in the rear.

Dopo La Spiaggia

Dopo La Spiaggia is an upscale Italian restaurant serving Tuscan-style cuisine. Menu specialties include ravioli with burrata and black summer truffle; branzino-poached seabass with spinach, tomatoes, and white wine; veal scaloppini with white wine sauce, broccoli rabe, and pine nuts; and, for dessert, ricotta cheesecake and classic tiramisu.

Juicy thick, eight-ounce burgers made of Angus beef are the stars at LT Burger . They also make turkey, chicken, vegan, and vegetarian burgers. Sides and starters include Kosher fried dill pickles, smoked Gouda fries, and a kale and wheat berry salad. Milkshakes, floats, fried Oreos, and s’mores are available for dessert.

Where To Stay In Sag Harbor

The American Hotel is an elegant former home built in 1846, meaning it’s a remnant of the whaling era of Sag Harbor. Located on Main Street, The American Hotel has eight guest rooms, all tastefully decorated with American antiques, plus a gourmet restaurant with an award-winning wine list.

Baron’s Cove is a full resort hotel facing the harbor. The 67-room hotel has rooms and lofts with calming decor in colors of gray, white, and navy blue. Amenities include a garden, parking, an outdoor pool, an indoor and outdoor restaurant, and a lounge. The hotel also offers complimentary beach service with a shuttle bus, plus chairs, towels, and umbrellas.

Shelter Island

Accessible by ferry from either the North Shore or South Shore of Long Island, Shelter Island is a verdant, small island great for relaxing and nature. About one-third of Shelter Island is a nature preserve, owned and protected by The Nature Conservancy, the largest non-profit nature preservation society in the U.S.

Originally known as Manhansack-aha-quash-awamock (“an island sheltered by islands”), Shelter Island was inhabited by the Manhanset tribe of Native Americans and was purchased in 1641 by Stephen Goodyear. Nathaniel Silver and his three partners bought the island from Goodyear, and Silver settled on the island with his family. In the 1700s, Shelter Island became a small, established community with a church and a school, and in 1846 the first ferry service started running from Greenport.

Shelter Island Historical Society and Havens House Museum is a museum that captures early life on the island, circa 1761. Captain James Havens and his wife, Elizabeth, named the land Heartsease and raised 11 children in the house. The house also served as a store, a tavern, a school, the post office, and the town meeting hall. Today, it houses a museum with temporary art exhibitions as well as the Havens Store, which sells merchandise and artworks from local Long Island artists and artisans.

Birdwatching On Shelter Island

Mashomack Preserve is the best place to bird watch on Shelter Island, and offers a wide variety of bird species, changing with the seasons, including Cedar Waxwing, Blue Jay, Black-capped Chickadee, American Goldfinch, Northern Cardinal, Mourning Dove, American Robin, House Hairy Woodpecker, and Carolina Wren.

Bicycling Shelter Island

Once you arrive on Shelter Island, the best way to enjoy the landscape is to rent a bicycle or bring your own. Piccozzi’s Bike Shop rents bicycles for $20 for four hours and $25 for eight hours. They also have child seats and bicycles.

Where To Stay On Shelter Island

Shelter Island House is a compound with a hotel, resort, and restaurant housed in a 19th-century former home. The six large and airy suites are luxuriously outfitted, and complimentary amenities include an outdoor pool with chaises, bicycle rentals, beach umbrellas, chairs, and towels, plus coffee and morning pastries.

Shelter Island House is pet-friendly, and they have two rooms that can accommodate dogs up to 50 pounds.

Where To Eat On Shelter Island

Vine street cafée.

A charming cottage is now the Vine Street Cafe , which serves the best of American foods. Dishes include clam chowder, country fried chicken, and prime New York strip steak with hand-cut fries. Vine Street also has a food market where you can buy takeout food and bottled sauces.

Maria’s Kitchen

Maria’s Kitchen offers freshly made Mexican cuisines such as quesadillas, tacos, and nachos and also has a salad menu.

Ferries To Shelter Island

There are two service points for Shelter Island ferries.

The South Ferry in North Haven is the South Shore option and is next to Sag Harbor. This ferry accommodates pedestrians and cars, and the ride takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

The North Ferry in Greenport is the North Shore option. This ferry also accommodates pedestrians and cars. The crossing takes eight minutes.

The best times to visit Shelter Island are in May, June, September, and October. July and August are the peak months, so if you do decide to go during those months, reserve your hotel and restaurants way in advance, and arrive at the ferry at least 20 minutes before your scheduled departure time because it’s first come, first served.

How To Get To Sag Harbor

Below is a brief summery regarding how to get to Sag Harbor.

Sag Harbor is about 100 miles, or 2 hours, 15 minutes from New York City. The drive is easy but can be slow during peak season due to traffic. 

An easy way to get to the Hamptons is via the Hampton Jitney, a luxury liner with many routes between Manhattan and the East End. 

Transit time is about 2.5 hours in each direction, drop off is right in downtown Sag Harbor at the cinema. Although, be aware, not all bus routes stop here.

The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) departs Manhattan’s Penn Station with various stops throughout the Hamptons. Sag Harbor does not have an LIRR station. The nearest station is in Bridgehampton which is 5 miles from Sag Harbor. 

Transit time is about 2.5 hours in each direction. If visiting during peak times, when traffic is heavy, the LIRR is a great way to go. 

By far the fastest way to get to the Hamptons is by helicopter or plane. Scheduled and charter flights are available to the public via BLADE. The ride is only about 30 minutes each direction. 

BLADE helicopter flies from various points in NYC into East Hampton Airport, which is just under 5 miles from Sag Harbor.

BLADE seaplanes fly from Manhattan directly to the quaint town of Sag Harbor.

Scheduled helicopter flights and charters are available year-round. Seaplanes are charter only.

There is no ferry from New York City to the Hamptons. 

If coming from Shelter Island or the North Fork of Long Island, you can ferry to North Haven, which is 1.5 miles from Sag Harbor.

Hire A Driver/ Cab/ Ride Share

Another way to get to the Hamptons is by hiring a driver. It’s possible to take a cab or ride share, such as Uber or Lyft, from New York City. However, the price will be very high. 

If going this route, I recommend hiring a car service. It’ll cost about the same as a cab but with elevated service.

Hire A Tour Guide

Hiring a driver is great, but limited. They will drop you off and pick you up where you’d like. Between that time, you’re on your own. 

If you’d like someone to drive you around the entire day, a tour guide is necessary.  

I’ve yet to find any group tours of the Hamptons. However, there are a few private tours available, this is especially great if you’re traveling with a small group.

Getting Around Sag Harbor 

Sag Harbor is small and mostly walkable. If you wish to visit the beach, however, you’ll need a bike or car. 

Car Rental In Sag Harbor 

There are no car rental companies in Sag Harbor.

There are rental companies in nearby Water Mill and East Hampton. Both are located less than 10 miles away.

Rent A Bike In Sag Harbor

It’s possible to get around Sag Harbor by bike. Check out rentals at Sag Harbor Cycle Company. 

They offer regular road bikes and electric bikes. It’s best to reserve a bike in advance if possible. 

Walking Around Sag Harbor

Sag Harbor is small and walkable for the most part. Shops, restaurants, and museums are all within close proximity to the downtown area.

It’s possible to get Uber or a cab in Sag Harbor. Just be aware, it’s not always timely or reliable. 

Sag Harbor Day Trip Itinerary 

Visit the beach.

Sag Harbor is located on the northern side of Long Island’s South Fork, facing the bay. The beaches here are a bit rocky and are very calm compared to the nearby Atlantic coastline. 

The main beach in Sag Harbor is Long Beach (formally called Foster Memorial Beach). It’s on a thin strip of land alongside a roadway connecting Noyack to North Haven. The beach is rockier on the west end and gets sandier as you move east. 

The calm water makes this beach  perfect  for families.

Long Beach does offer daily parking passes. If visiting over a summer weekend, it’s best to arrive early to secure parking and snag a good spot on the beach. Also, this beach has restrooms and showers for changing.

For true sandy beaches (and waves) you’ll want to head to the Atlantic Coast, just 5+ miles away. Popular oceanfront beaches near Sag Harbor are Sagg Main Beach, Mecox Beach, or Coopers Beach. Coopers Beach offers the most in terms of amenities. They have large restrooms and umbrella/ beach chair rentals.

Note: Many Hamptons beaches are free and open to the public, but beach parking is not free. Parking rules and rates are regularly changing. Before heading out, check out Town of Southampton for up-to-date and accurate parking information. If planning to visit Coppers Beach, head over to Village of Southampton . Those without a car can walk, bike, or be dropped off at any public beach without needing a permit or paying a fee. 

Shop & Explore Downtown Sag Harbor

Exploring the town’s Main Street is a must during your day trip to Sag Harbor. Imagine stylish boutique shops and art galleries mixed in with a supermarket, hardware store, and historic theater. It’s very charming!

The Hamptons are known for excellent shopping and Sag Harbor is no different, the town has especially great antique stores.

Additionally, you’ll find delicious restaurants in this area and nearby attractions such as museums, the harbor, and beautiful historic homes.

Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum 

Sag Harbor’s main industry during the 1700’s and early 1800’s was whaling. In fact, it was one of the United States’ main whaling ports during this time. The village was even mentioned in Herman Melville’s famed book Moby Dick .

If you’re interested in learning about Sag Harbor’s history I recommend visiting the Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum. Here you’ll find artifacts of the town’s history and the largest collection of whaling equipment in the state of New York.

The museum is located in a beautiful 1845 home once owned by whaling ship owner Benjamin Huntting II. It’s just a short walk from the Main Street area.

See The Yachts On Sag Harbor

The next stop during your one day itinerary is the harbor!

The harbor is centrally located in the village, just steps from lively restaurants and excellent boutique shops, making it one of the favorite things to do in Sag Harbor. It’s the perfect place to take in the views!

Sag Harbor Yacht Yard was first established in the 1700’s as Rysam’s Boat Yard and originally served as a fishing and whaling port. Today it’s more so known for mega yachts and sailboats, which can be spotted here during the summer months.  

While here, be sure to stop by Olaf’s for ice cream. The line can get long and it’s cash only, but it’s so worth it! They have both regular and non-dairy options.

Sunset Sail

If time permits I definitely recommend going for a sunset boat ride in Sag Harbor.

One of the best options in Sag Harbor is American Beauty Cruises and Charters . It’s a no-frills, 2 hour boat ride, and you can bring your own food and drinks on board.

This is the perfect way to take in the beautiful scenery and go for a tour of the harbor. As an added bonus, the pricing is very reasonable.

• Go for an easy hike in the Elizabeth A. Morton National Wildlife Refuge.
• Catch a live show at Bay Street Theater.
• Go kayaking or stand up paddle boarding.
• Listen to live music at Baron’s Cove.
• Visit the Sag Harbor Historical Society.
• Watch the sunset from John Steinbeck Waterfront Park.
• Go for a wine tasting at Wölffer Estate Vineyard, 4 miles away in Sagaponack.

Where To Eat In Sag Harbor

There’s a good variety of restaurants along Main Street of Sag Harbor village. Some popular options are Sen, Lulu Kitchen & Bar, Sag Pizza, Page at 63 Main, and Tutto il Giorno, just to name a few.

For dinner over the water check out Le Bilboquet or Beacon.

For a quick bite to eat consider Cavaniola Gourmet Cheese, Provisions, Corner Bar, or Dock House.

Breakfast is great from Grindstone Coffee & Donuts, Goldberg’s Famous Bagels, and Estia’s Little Kitchen. There’s also a number of good coffee shops like Sagtown Coffee and Jack’s Stir Brew Coffee.

As mentioned above, Olaf’s is the best place for ice cream. Carissa’s The Bakery and BuddahBerry are also good for satisfying a sweet tooth.

Where To Stay In Sag Harbor

If spending the night in Sag Harbor you have a few hotel options:

When Is The Best Time To Visit Sag Harbor?

Summer is peak season in Sag Harbor. This is when the weather is nicest, all businesses are open, and the town has a very fun energy to it. This time of year really is magical. The only downside? There will be crowds and traffic to contend with.

Fall can be a beautiful time to visit, crowds begin to die down but most businesses are still open. Depending on luck, you may be able to enjoy a beach day during fall.

Spring is often rainy and grey but has occasional warm days. Businesses slowly begin to reopen throughout April into May. This is a good time of year to visit if you wish to avoid crowds and don’t care for beach-going.

Winter is the quietest time of year throughout the Hamptons. The weather is quite cold and many businesses close up for winter, although a handful stay open year-round. If you’re seeking a peaceful Hamptons day trip without the crowds, winter is the best.

What To Pack For A Day Trip To Sag Harbor

When packing for a day trip to the Hamptons there’s a few things you should have on hand.

Of course a practical outfit with comfortable shoes will be necessary for a long day. However, you may also need items like a portable phone charger, sun protection, and cash. Some businesses in Sag Harbor still operate on cash only.

If visiting the beach, you’ll also need items such as toiletries to clean up after sunbathing and two towels. One towel to get sandy at the beach and one for cleaning up after the beach.

Regarding outfit choices, airy summer garments like cotton pieces, maxi dresses, linen sets, and “beach to dinner” outfits are always perfect for summer in Sag Harbor.

The Ultimate Guide to Sag Harbor

Within Sag Harbor’s two square miles lies a character-filled past that could rival any village in America. Founded in the mid-1700s as a shipping and whaling port, it was at one time second only to New York City. After whaling declined, other industries took over. And things are changing again.

The old Bulova watchcase factory is now a luxury condominium complex, fisherman have been replaced by celebrities, and real estate prices continue to soar.

The village is home to three African American beach communities, now historically registered, which were created as respites for minorities during segregation. Many notable Black leaders, including poet Langston Hughes, spent the seasons here. And Colson Whitehead’s 2009 coming-of-age novel Sag Harbor , about an African American teenager spending the summer in the village’s Black enclave, is being turned into an HBO Max series with Laurence Fishburne as executive producer. The once sleepy town has gone Hollywood.

A long history of literary greatness lives in Sag Harbor. The village is mentioned several times in Herman Melville’s whaling classic, Moby-Dick . The opus is honored every year in June with a live reading, organized and held by Canio’s Books.

John Steinbeck (whose 120th birthday was last February) summered in Sag Harbor from 1955 until his death in 1968. A waterfront cottage that the East of Eden author called, simply, “Eden,” went up for sale last year and concerned locals galvanized together to turn the property into a writer’s retreat. They formed the Steinbeck House Committee, with Colson Whitehead as the honorary chair. This year they raised $13.5 million to purchase the home. There is still the gazebo where Steinbeck wrote his final novel, The Winter of Our Discontent — set in a fictional town modeled on Sag Harbor.

Other writers who have called Sag Harbor home include Spalding Gray, whose Morning, Noon and Night detailed life in Sag Harbor village. Feminine Mystique author Betty Friedan lived down the street from E.L. Doctorow. Legend has it that The Silence of the Lambs author Thomas Harris couldn’t find a quiet space to write at his family’s home in Sag Harbor, so he rented a small apartment over Marty’s barbershop on Main Street. Here, Hannibal Lecter was born. Down the street, former president Chester A. Arthur’s stately home — his summer White House — occasionally hits the market, getting its asking price. Sag Harbor has become a year-round destination for all. As John Steinbeck suggests, summer is not just a season, but a feeling in the air. Nowhere can that feeling be felt more than in the village of Sag Harbor.

OLD WHALERS’ CHURCH 44 Union Street, 631-725-0894 Rumored to be haunted, this historic First Presbyterian church dates from 1844 and is an amazing example of Egyptian Revival architecture. Designed by Minard Lafever, its original 185-foot steeple (which could be seen all the way to Montauk) was destroyed in the hurricane of 1938. It was modeled after Solomon’s Temple, with the interior featuring the oldest pipe organ still in use in a church on Long Island. Sometimes it plays on its own.

SAG HARBOR CINEMA 90 Main Street, 631-725-0010 In an example of community spirit, Sag Harbor Cinema was completely rebuilt following a fire in 2016. The famous red neon sign was saved, and the facade once again resembles the vaudeville and burlesque theater that was built in the 1890s. The work of the Sag Harbor Partnership, a nonprofit community organization led by locals including artists Eric Fischl and April Gornik, it has been reimagined as well. Today, the cinema is the pulse of the village, dedicated to presenting the past, present, and future of movies and educating guests about the film-going experience with three state-of-the-art theaters showing blockbusters, indie films, and student shorts. After the movie, head upstairs to the Green Room for a refreshing libation and some live music — the views of the bay from the François Truffaut Terrace are simply cinematic.

BAY STREET THEATER 1 Long Wharf (on the corner of Bay Street and Wharf), 631-725-9500 Bay Street Theater is regional theater at its best; many productions go on to Broadway and Off Broadway. The 299-seat theater attracts top talent — everyone from Julie Andrews to Alec Baldwin have graced the stage here. Jerry Seinfeld has been known to show up unannounced to perform stand-up. Founded in 1991 as a nightclub, Bay Street Theater also houses one of the last remaining puppet theaters, Goat on a Boat, and offers a schedule of workshops and classes for budding thespians.

LE BILBOQUET 1 Long Wharf, 631-808-3767 This Upper East Side import boasts the best views on the harbor and is a veritable see-and-be-seen spot. Insiders order the Cajun chicken, refer to the French eatery as “Bilbo,” and always double air-kiss owner Philippe Delgrange who encourages table-hopping and champagne guzzling. Stay for the late-night DJ and dancing — you can sleep on the beach tomorrow.

K PASA 2 Main Street, 631-800-8226 K Pasa isn’t your typical Mexican joint. As the owners say, “We’re just some locals who love tequila, tacos, and some spice in our lives.” This modern taqueria features gluten-free tacos like lamb birria, salmon wonton, and octopus, plus healthy bowls and salads. Pair it with a flight of reposado, blanco or añejo — K Pasa has 64 different types of tequila on offer.

GRINDSTONE COFFEE & DONUTS 7 Main Street, 631-808-3370 Start your morning with a peppermint mocha or honey lavender latte at Kyle Shanahan’s (stepson of TV chef Michael Symon) unique coffee and donut shop. The enormous donuts (pass the Ozempic!) change daily and flavors include toffee popcorn, thin mint, apple pie, Nutella s’mores, Linzer torte, sour cream, and chocolate chip cookie.

TUTTO IL GIORNO 16 Main Street, 631-919-5353 Gabby Karan de Felice and husband Gianpaolo de Felice’s chic Italian eatery is always buzzing with bold-faced names. The décor by Gabby’s mom, Donna Karan, who has an adjacent shop, is understated and elegant, with white walls and natural wood accents, while large windows let in gorgeous natural light.

ESTIA’S LITTLE KITCHEN 1615 Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike, 631-725-1045 Located just outside the village, this jewel box may look like a greasy spoon off a freeway, but it is the spot for Mexican and Mediterranean-influenced huevos rancheros, breakfast burritos, egg platters, and more. The parking lot is filled with Teslas and BMWs and fans are happy waiting a while for a table in the adjacent garden for the paella, made with local littleneck clams and freshly caught fish.

CARISSA’S BAKERY 3 Bay Street, 631-808-3633 With a cult following, Carissa’s has queues down the block all day. The viennoiserie and vibrant cakes, all baked on-site, are worth the wait. Their chocolate flourless cakes are perfect to snap for your Instagram feed: topped with clouds of meringue, gold leaf, and organic, edible flower petals.

THE AMERICAN HOTEL 49 Main Street, 631-725-3535 Known to locals as “the center of the universe,” this hotel, restaurant, and bar is more than the sum of its parts. Ted Conklin bought and restored the property in 1972, shoveling coal out of the basement himself (the current owner was sleeping in the dining room). With eight double rooms for rent, and an excellent restaurant with a spectacular wine list, the American Hotel is itself a character in the story of the village and if its walls could talk, what tales they’d tell. Ask Ted about his yacht for rent. “Vinny and Paul keep the bar the most convivial place on the East End,” says Conklin, adding: “And if you have been overserved or you think you might be overserved, just reserve one of our cozy bedrooms and partake in a fantastic breakfast the next morning.”

BARON’S COVE 31 West Water Street, 844-227-6672 Baron’s Cove has been serving visitors and locals alike since the 1960s. The nautical-themed hotel has 67 rooms (some with private garden terraces) and harbor loft suites with balconies. The hotel was a regular haunt of a quite a few literary lions, including Truman Capote and Kurt Vonnegut. It was also John Steinbeck’s favorite watering hole. Ask the bartender nicely and he’ll make you Steinbeck’s favorite drink: the Jack Rose.

ONDA BEAUTY 42 Main Street, 631-899-3656 Onda’s founders (Naomi Watts, for one) created the brand from a passion for natural beauty products and holistic health practices. The shop offers a carefully curated selection of skin care, makeup, hair care, and wellness products from coveted clean beauty brands like Costa Brazil, Tammy Fender, and Grown Alchemist. Onda is the go-to spot for clinical-strength, deep-cleaning, age-defying facials, restorative massages, as well as body exfoliation, dry brushing, and more. Onda even offers intuitive readings where you can get your “energy” analyzed.

GOOP 4 Bay Street, 631-808-3930 In their own words, this outpost is “goop’s version of the world’s chicest general store.” Housed in a white-washed summer cottage, it’s a one-stop shop for summer essentials, from G. Label apparel to curated handmade jewelry and Cynthia Rowley swimsuits. An array of Gwyneth Paltrow-approved beauty products, including goop’s own line, means you’ll never run out of “GOOPGENES All-in-One Super Nutrient Face Oil.”

MONC XIII 40 Madison Street, 631-808-3333 “It’s not just a store, it’s a world,” says Monc XIII’s Natasha Esch of her design emporium. “The inspiration was to create a timeless environment that channels the atmosphere of a home.” The shop has a kitchen and a spectacular garden where Esch, who is also an interior designer, hosts events. A favorite of Zac Posen’s, the mix of vintage and contemporary furniture and accessories (including jewelry, lighting, and objets d’art) have been sourced from all over the globe. “Many customers come in and say, ‘Can I move in?’ which is the ultimate compliment.”

JOEY WOLFFER 11 Madison Street, 631-725-1436 “I am very aware of the footprint that fashion has on the environment,” says winemaker and tastemaker Joey Wölffer of her eponymous boutique. “I am shifting the focus of the store to be more sustainable.” Hard-to-find labels mix with Joey’s own label Reworked, a collection of one-of-a-kind, reimagined womenswear. And for a style ace: this summer, Leallo’s Megan Chiarello has teamed up with Wölffer to launch the lace-bibbed, tennis-inspired Joey Wölffer x Leallo Meadow Club sweatshirt, named after the ultra-exclusive, members-only Meadow Club in Southampton.

SAGE & MADISON 31 Madison Street, 631-530-0977 Built in 1797, Sage & Madison is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its current incarnation as a boutique and inn opened its barn doors in 2020 and features a curated selection of home and garden items, with a focus on local handmade and fair-trade goods. Upstairs, the Hall and Hatfield two-bedroom suites and the one-bedroom Madison Suite offer spacious accommodations, complete with luxe Ralph Lauren bedding.

Escaping your place of quarantine for a safe new environment is a great way to bid adieu to one very strange summer. However, getting to that destination in a comfortable, socially-distanced manner may present challenges for those who don’t own a car (read:  more than half  of New York City). Given the opportunity to borrow  the Grandfather  of all road trip vehicles (the Mercedes-Benz G-Class was the first car to have all-wheel drive steering in Southwest Africa and Germany’s colonial areas in the early 1900s), I decided to plan a last-minute getaway just in time for the unofficial end of summer. The destination? One of the East End’s small-town gems, Sag Harbor.

About two-and-a-half hours east of the The Big Apple, Sag Harbor offers visitors a slow pace, a tight-knit community, and picturesque marina views. Historically, it's been a profitable whaling town, and a popular  vacation destination for the Black community  with A-list visitors including Duke Ellington, Harry Belafonte, and Langston Hughes. Peak summer months are bustling in the waterfront town, but you can find even better deals in the weeks following Labor Day if you can’t quite make it by September 7.

Where to Stay

While staying at Baron's Cove, borrow bikes (complimentary) from the hotel and spend some time perusing the quiet hydrangea-lined streets, peppered with historic shingled cottages. Alternatively, take a ride to one of the nearby beaches, like Foster Memorial or Haven’s Beach. On Saturdays, stop by the Farmer’s Market—open through Halloween—to support local farms, fisherman, and bakers. To learn more about Sag Harbor’s rich heritage, plan a stop at the  Eastville Historical Society , which was founded in 1981 with the aim of preserving Sag Harbor's roots and diversity.

To enjoy a beautiful day outdoors, visit the recently reopened  LongHouse Reserve , a 16-acre sculpture garden featuring pieces by Yoko Ono and Willem de Kooning. Back in town, there are dozens of local shops to support, like  ONDA Beauty , a natural beauty store co-founded by former fashion editor Larissa Thomson and her partners, Sarah Bryden-Brown and actress Naomi Watts. Where to Eat and Drink

Dine at Baron’s outdoor restaurant for breakfast or lunch overlooking the cove, or order food directly to your private patio. If you’re looking for a nosh in town, head over to popular bagel spot  Goldberg's  for takeout, or sit down to lunch at either  The American Hotel  or  Dockside Bar & Grill , located inside Sag Harbor's old American Legion Building. Both restaurants are conveniently located on Sag Harbor’s Main Street—about a 10-minute walk from Baron's Cove.

For seafood lovers, a reservation at Gurney’s  Lobster Bake  in nearby Montauk will be an  experience . Enjoy quintessential coastal cuisine like seafood chowder, whole lobsters, clams, steamed corn, and apple pie. Alternatively, snag a table at  Showfish , where you can watch the sunset over the harbor while savoring tuna crudo, soft shell crab, and roasted wild stripe bass—some of which were caught off the adjacent docks. There are plenty of options for non-seafood lovers, like the savory wet-aged New York Strip, organic roasted chicken, and a wide selection of salads and sides. Before you head home, say farewell to summertime with a seasonal dessert, like a slice of blackberry pie or a sweet and savory rhubarb tart.

Plan your visit

From all points west take the Long Island Expressway to Exit 70 (Manorville Road). Follow Manorville Road to the end, turn left onto Route 27 (Sunrise Highway). Follow Route 27 East through the village of Bridgehampton. As you come to the end of the business district make a left at the intersection with a traffic light and a monument onto the Sag Harbor/ Bridgehampton Turnpike. Follow that road into Sag Harbor (just before the business district), you are now on Main Street. We are located on the left, on the corner of Main and Garden Streets, in a large white Greek Revival house.

From all points east follow Route 27 West to the intersection at the beginning of the Bridgehampton business district. Make a right at the intersection with a traffic light and a monument onto the Sag Harbor/ Bridgehampton Turnpike. See above for rest of directions.

Housed in an 18th century Sag Harbor home, the museum puts on yearly summer historic exhibits, holds lectures, and is open on the weekends for public tour. In the rear of the property is the Museum’s interpretation of William Cooper’s whale boat shop, containing an excellent small exhibit of boat building tools and video’s about Sag Harbor’s famous whaling industry.

Historical Archives

As part of it’s mission to represent the history of Sag Harbor to the public, the Sag Harbor Historical Museum holds archives of historical documents, books, photography, art, and period clothing. The various collections date from the mid 1700’s to current day. All archives are located in the museum and are accessible with the supervision of a Trustee. The Museum will do a research of local homes (the history, locating the building on an old map, identification of previous owners, etc.) as best they can for a fee of $200. A simple map location of local homes is free. See detailed specifics of the archival collections below:

History of Annie Cooper Boyd

Annie Cooper Boyd was a local artist, diarist, and important primary source for understanding the history of Sag Harbor. Born in 1864, she grew up next door to the Historical Museum’s headquarters on Main Street. As a teenager, and through adulthood, Annie documented the architecture and natural beauty of the East End through her drawings, paintings, and diary. She even painted several doors in the museum with iconic local landmarks. Through her art and writings, visitors are able to envision what the village and environs looked like in the late 1800's. Annie also has a connection to Sag Harbor’s famous whaling industry, as the daughter of William Cooper, a shareholder in a number of whaling ships and local whale boat builder.

The Annie Cooper Boyd House was left to the Historical Museum for use as its museum and headquarters in the will of Annie’s daughter, Nancy Willey. Following in her mothers' footsteps, Nancy contributed to the maintenance of the historical character of Sag Harbor through a lifetime of activism, research, and preservation.

While East Hampton and Montauk are two of the more popular towns on the East End to visit, Sag Harbor is the often-overlooked gem along Sag Harbor Bay where year-round residents have cultivated a community-oriented village and a culinary scene that pays tribute to tradition in its coffee shops while also embracing modern standards for quality and taste.

What makes for a quality coffee shop ? The answer to that question is subjective, but we can likely agree that a dependable cup of coffee is one of the main requirements. The rest relies on personal preference: baked goods selection, caffeinated drink options, price point, and overall coffee shop ambiance. As a longtime resident of Long Island who recently moved to a neighboring East End town, I have sampled many coffee spots in Sag Harbor.

Carissa's Bakery

We begin our journey into Sag Harbor with one of the most exciting bakeries on Long Island, which also happens to be an excellent coffee shop. Carissa's Bakery has three locations across the East End, one in Sag Harbor and two in East Hampton. Carissa's Sag Harbor outpost is a gleaming minimalist coffee shop and bakery that serves food, drinks, and artisanal groceries as take-out only. 

Mouthwatering pastries are within a luxurious glass display framing the counter, including toasted hazelnut mocha croissants, miso chocolate chunk cookies, elevated sandwiches served on baguette halves, and thick slabs of focaccia. To drink, you have all your upscale coffee shop classics done expertly: cortados, flat whites, macchiatos, cold brews, chai lattes, and Americanos. Milk options include your standard whole and skim in addition to trendy dairy-free offerings such as oat milk and pistachio milk, a more sustainable alternative to almond milk . 

Carissa's serves a proprietary blend of single-origin coffee from East Africa and South America. The roast is medium-dark with an intensely full-bodied flavor. Looking for some comforting decadence? Jack's Stir Brew is the exception to this rule in Sag Harbor, as the coffee chain has locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Eastern Long Island, but its commitment to fostering community bonds and the excellent quality of its organic coffee make it a worthy stop on your East End coffee tour. 

As the name suggests, at Jack's Stir Brew, you have the opportunity to sample the coffeehouse's signature stir-brew coffee , a method of coffee preparation perfected by the founder that's used to help create an even balance of coffee and to extract the fullest flavor out of the coffee beans. To replicate the taste at home, patrons can purchase bags of beans in a variety of blends, including the limited edition Hamptons Beach Blend, featuring a medium roast with rich notes of chocolate and tart citrus.

Located within Sylvester & Co. Modern General, a contemporary take on the time-honored American general store, is the beloved East End coffee bar, Dreamy Coffee. A women-owned small business serving The Hamptons since 1989, Dreamy Coffee is home to the eponymous Dreamy Coffee roast, available for individual and wholesale purchase, boasting a subtle yet intense chocolatey flavor.

Dreamy Coffee's signature beverage is its freshly made cold brew concentrates, which are sold in 32-ounce bottles in a number of unique flavors, including hazelnut, coconut, and hibiscus tisane, a cold brew tea using hibiscus flowers. All the coffee sold and produced by Dreamy Coffee is certified organic, made in small batches daily, fair trade, and uses filtered water within its brewing facility. Harbor Market and Kitchen is a hybrid dining concept: one part corner market, one part specialty kitchen, and one part pastry and coffee shop. Espresso Da Asporto is likely best known as one of Sag Harbor's favorite Italian restaurants and specialty shops where folks can enjoy any number of Italian staples, like freshly made sandwiches on focaccia, homemade pizzas, and sumptuous pasta. Provisions has been serving the area for over 30 years with a steadfast commitment to bringing organic and local goods to residents and seasonal visitors without pretension or stuffiness. Provisions' cafe offers breakfast and lunch options with a robust selection of coffee, juices, smoothies, and baked goods. 

The coffee bar is fairly laid back, but that doesn't mean it's lacking in quality. There are two daily options for drip coffee: Thunder Island Montauk Blend and a rotating brew of decaf. The Montauk Blend is Fair Trade Certified and USDA Organic and features a combination of medium and French roasted beans from Arabica coffees. The flavor profile is mild with touches of nutty sweetness as well as subtle hints of floral.

Recently, Provisions expanded its cafe offerings to include two different artisanal cold brews: Dreamy Coffee and Red Thread Coffee. The smoothies showcase the wellness focus of Provisions, with highlights including the Vanilla Lightning with banana, rice milk, and vanilla Spiru-tein, and The Hempster with hemp seeds, which are a nutritional addition to any diet , chocolate hemp protein, hemp milk, banana, and peanut butter.
