A year ago, it would have been tough to imagine that one of the hottest summer tours would be a Blink-182 arena trek . But a heathy mix of nostalgia and adoration for the recently-reunited classic lineup primed a sold-out Madison Square Garden crowd on May 19 to revisit their elder emo feelings in a show that sent the audience and band alike flying back to their halcyon days.

Even though the MSG show was just a dozen dates into their reunion, there were no cobwebs, with the trio looking pretty much like they did during their last global trek together in 2014. The staples of their performance are also intact: Barker’s endlessly impressive drumming, DeLonge’s nasally delivery and rawk guitar stances, and Hoppus’ springy baselines and sweet vocals.

And how lucky the band is to have a helluva back catalogue to pull from. Although Blink has never received due praise for their songwriting, they have dozens of hooky singalongs that any Millennial who visited Hot Topic knows by heart. Even marginally deeper cuts from the group’s most famous records had the crowd on their feet, with opener “Anthem Part Two,” “Reckless Abandon” and “Violence” getting the same reaction as singles like “The Rock Show” and “Feeling This.” Their final stretch of songs — a predictable but killer run of “What’s My Age Again?,” “First Date,” “All the Small Things” and “Dammit” — was met with a roar, with even casual fans unable to resist their oversized charm.

It was a set that made the band, and the fans, feel ageless, if only for a few hours.

Blink-182 Concert Review: A Striking Rock Show at Fenway Park

As the sun set over Boston’s beloved Fenway Park on July 23, Blink-182 let their signature juvenile humor ring out across the stadium through a selection of their greatest hits and songs off their newest album, “ONE MORE TIME….” With rich instrumentation, youthful banter, and a plethora of fireworks, the band put on a nostalgic performance honoring their past and present.

Blink-182 opened the night with the classic “Feeling This,” a pop-punk song exploring the fiery but short-lived emotions of lust and passion within a relationship. Tom DeLonge, on vocals and guitar, and Mark Hoppus, on vocals and bass, took turns singing the track’s verses and chorus, with fans eventually joining in. “Feeling This” set the energy for the rest of the show, promising a night of boisterous fun and lively music that the rest of the set certainly delivered.

Following up with “The Rock Show,” Blink-182 gave their drummer, Travis Barker, time to shine. Barker gave an exhilarating and skilled performance on the drums, at times overpowering Hoppus and DeLonge but bringing the intensity of a true rock show. The fireworks throughout the song as Hoppus sang the repeating refrain, “I fell in love with the girl at the rock show,” made the show a celebratory event, tying together where the band has been and where they’re going.

Hoppus and DeLonge frequently took breaks for crowd work, ranging from jokes about the Boston cream pie and puns about Dunkin’, to making unserious proclamations that it’s “your fault your parents got divorced” and dedicating songs to the women of Boston “’cause they’re hot.” While their humor was reminiscent of a high school boys’ lunch table, it was classic Blink-182 and embodied the spirit of “What’s My Age Again?,” one of their most popular tracks and an anthem for immaturity.

This exploration of the past continued with “Carousel,” a track from their debut album “Cheshire Cat.” The song is a marker of the band’s origin, which DeLonge made sure to point out after citing criticism he has gotten for getting too deep with telling stories during the show.

“Instead of doing a story, I’m thinking we should play one of the first songs, if not the first song, we ever wrote as a band,” DeLonge said, while introducing “Carousel.”

A track about reflecting back on the ease of school days and the difficult transition of growing up, “Carousel” grapples with the loneliness and loss of community that comes with being a young adult. DeLonge’s powerful vocals alongside Barker’s drumming and Hoppus’s bass brought the angst and frustration that was key to the song.

blink tour review

This meditation on the past was also present in several of the tracks they performed from “ONE MORE TIME…” as the band returned to their pop-punk sound with more introspective subject matter. “ANTHEM PART 3” looked back on old mistakes with lyrics, detailing that “this time, I won’t be complacent / the dreams I gave up and wasted.” “MORE THAN YOU KNOW” leaned toward a more metal sound, with DeLonge screaming out the song’s chorus, and explored feelings of pain and numbness.

Barker’s drumming was a literal high point of the show, as he and his drums were raised in the air during the drum solo of “Not Now” before coming back down three songs later at the end of “Down.” His solo was electric, and his drumming was truly a driving force throughout the set — though Barker shone just as well alongside the melodic vocals and fiery guitar riffs of Hoppus and DeLonge.

Toward the end of the show, the band returned to some fan favorites from their discography. “First Date,” a track recounting the nerves of going on a first date coupled with the excitement of wanting to stay in that moment, saw the return of another round of fireworks and clips of the audience projected onto the three big screens behind the band. The repeating lyrics, “Let’s make this last forever / forever and ever,” and the song’s dynamic instrumentals brought a surge of energy as the night ended.

Blink-182 makes sure to include an element of surprise at each of their shows. The band has previously used the instrumental bridge of “Dammit” to cover songs, including Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” in New York and recently Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” at Lollapalooza. In Boston, the band returned to a classic they’ve done during their early years of performing “Dammit” live: “No Scrubs” by TLC. A track about the struggles of growing up, “Dammit” is still beloved by fans today and a fitting inclusion on the setlist for a band that snubs expectations of maturity in favor of the amusement of youth.

blink tour review

The history of Blink-182 is a long and tumultuous one, with several breakups, reunions, and a host of tragedies. Yet, the connection between Hoppus, DeLonge, and Barker has withstood the test of time, and their encore song, “ONE MORE TIME” hammered that message home. The song reflects on Hoppus’s battle with cancer and Barker’s plane crash in 2008, affirming that it shouldn’t take near-death experiences to bring them together. Paying homage to their song “I Miss You” with the lyrics “I miss you, took time, but I admit it / It still hurts even after all these years,” Blink-182 ended the show on a touching note.

Though the show was largely a walk down memory lane, Blink-182 celebrated not only where they’ve been, but also where they’re going. Despite an array of childish displays and songs declaring “no one should take themselves so seriously,” the band seems to have grown from their mistakes and refocused on the music, delivering a striking performance for fans new and old.

Blink-182 ‘One More Time Tour’ review: Inside the band’s beautifully stupid new era

“Who here comes from a broken home?” Mark Hoppus earnestly asked his arena crowd.

As thousands of hands raised around Wells Fargo Center , the famed bassist also lifted his arm in solidarity.

Then he said: “Well, it’s your fault. It’s because of you.”

Deadpan. Comedy. Never change, Blink-182.

The relentlessly irreverent and vulgar pop-punk titans — a trio of wildly successful rock star bodies housing the brains of 12-year-old boys — blasted through Philadelphia Friday night on their “One More Time Tour,” supporting their eponymous 2023 album, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard. The well-reviewed record (and my personal favorite LP of ‘23; is my millennial showing?) marked a return to form and the band’s first project with co-founding guitarist Tom DeLonge in 12 years.

A very brief Blink history: After leading the late ‘90s pop-punk surge with smashes like “What’s My Age Again?” and “All the Small Things,” the California-based band split apart in the mid-’00s to focus on other projects. Then drummer Travis Barker was nearly killed in a small plane crash in 2008. The band rallied around the tragedy and reformed in 2009, releasing a then-comeback album in “Neighborhoods” (2011) before DeLonge departed again in 2015. Blink soldiered on with Alkaline Trio singer Matt Skiba filling in, releasing two more albums.

Then, in 2021, Hoppus revealed a cancer diagnosis, underwent intense chemotherapy and upon his recovery the band reformed again in 2022, wrote and recorded their best album in 20 years and since last year have toured a ton, including a headlining spot at the Adjacent Festival in 2023, jamming their hits and cracking dirty jokes on the Atlantic City beach.

“This tour is a celebration of the entire history of Blink-182,” Hoppus, 52, said later Friday, sincere this time. “The highs and the lows, the friendship and the reconciliation.”

Hoppus said this just before “Anthem Pt. 3,” the new album’s pummeling punk opener, which surrounded Barker’s drum kit in columns of flame as DeLonge wailed the chorus with conviction: “This time I won’t be complacent / The dreams I gave up and wasted / A new high, a new ride / And I’m on fire / My old s--- ends here tonight.”

The night was indeed a wire-to-wire sort of bonanza, as the band touched every era from “Carousel” — the first song they ever wrote — to a new, wistful unreleased track called “Can’t Go Back,” led by Hoppus.

This extensive tour, which began last month and runs through October, is the band’s first ever in the round, performing on a 360-degree stage built to resemble their famed smiley-face logo. The band did well to shift around the novel stage, giving face time to fans in all corners. Hoppus seemed to be in a constant gallop, trotting in circles, grinning behind his thick-rimmed glasses. DeLonge was often more stoic at his microphone stand (he sings lead more often, after all) but when he could get away, he was dancing his version of some ironic salsa — everything DeLonge, 48, does seems to be part of some greater bit, as though his entire career has been one, 30-year joke.

While most of DeLonge’s on-stage banter is too filthy to repeat here, a cleaner bit was him and Hoppus arguing over whether Philadelphia was famous for its cheesesteak or cheesecake. So, so dumb. In a vacuum, you’d never assume this was one of the most successful rock bands of the last four decades (50 million albums sold), who somehow haven’t yet been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It’s only a matter of time.

Hoppus, who wore a Flyers hockey jersey with “Gritty” on the back, made sure to ding the crowd for infamously throwing batteries at Santa Claus — “you need therapy in Philadelphia,” DeLonge chimed in — before noting how this Wells Fargo show was the band’s largest arena concert on the tour.

The audience of nearly 20,000, most of them 30- or 20-somethings, dutifully belted singalongs to hits “The Rock Show,” “First Date” and the more emo-rock leaning “Miss You,” roaring through DeLonge’s famed “where are youuu, and I’m so sorry.”

Barker, 48, who still ravages his kit like it’s his first and last day on stage, erupted for a solo within the band’s 2003 track “Not Now,” as he and his drums were lifted on cables above the stage and rotating in place.

The band left a few fan favorites off this set — namely their defining ballad “Adam’s Song” and beloved throwbacks “M+Ms” and “Josie” — in favor of tunes from their previous side projects. Hoppus led a slowed and darkened rendition of “When Your Heart Stops Beating,” from his foray with +44 (with Barker), and DeLonge returned to his Boxcar Racer days with “There Is.” Oh, the irony of watching the guys play the songs they wrote 20 years ago to get away from each other ... with each other.

Yet through all of Blink’s twists and turns, fame and misfortunes, they are still the same kids from SoCal — Hoppus stomping in his Chuck Taylors, DeLonge hammering a guitar covered in the stickers of the punk bands who influenced him: Descendents, Fugazi and TSOL. And for a sub-sect of suburban millennials hanging on to a bit of teen angst as their beards gray, the band scratches a specific itch.

“Give up for the greatest band to ever walk the face of the Earth, Blink-182!” Hoppus yelled in goofy self-support, as the show neared its end.

In the band’s moments of genuine triumph, still headlining major festivals and selling out arena tours, such a claim may not be so far off. Perhaps their significance as hitmakers outweighs all the toilet humor and deep, encompassing silliness.

I considered this as sperm-shaped confetti, fired from cannons, rained down upon me.

Sigh. Never change, Blink-182.

Just before Blink, San Diego post-hardcore favorites Pierce The Veil tore through their 45-minute opening set. The four-piece led by singer-guitarist Vic Fuentes is touring in support of 2023′s “The Jaws of Life,” the band’s first album since 2016 — and first since co-founding drummer Mike Fuentes exited the group following sexual misconduct allegations.

The best of the energetic group’s new tunes was “Pass the Nirvana,” a throttling nod to Rage Against the Machine. As the band was at the forefront of the late ‘00s Warped Tour scene, there were plenty of crossover fans, who sang heartily to the older cuts “Bulls in the Bronx” and closer “King for a Day.” My only gripe: PTV Should’ve included “Bulletproof Love,” one of their biggest singalongs, and axed their cover of Radiohead’s “Karma Police,” which while serviceable was largely lost on the punk-leaning crowd.

Blink-182 at United Center: Hitmaking lineup reunites, older but no more mature

Chemistry of pop punk trio’s ’90s heyday remains as guitarist-vocalist tom delonge rejoins the band..

Blink_182_05062023_7.jpg

Kate Scott/For the Sun-Times

Going to a blink-182 show in 2023 is the musical equivalent of finding Neverland, where, for 90 minutes, all adulting is paused. As the second night of the pop punk band’s world reunion tour got underway Saturday in Chicago with an arsenal of cartoon video graphics, eighth-grade humor about STDs and the shape of hot dogs and mass singalongs rueing the pitfalls of childhood trauma and teenage heartbreak, it begged the question, “What’s our age again?”

Much of the United Center was filled with 40-somethings going on 14 who, over the course of the show (which repeats Sunday night), regressed to a time in the late ’90s when the California trio became the most prescribed antidote for coming-of-age woes that befell the MTV generation — and with it, helping birth a new era of mainstream pop punk.

Though, three decades later, it all felt totally appropriate and familiar to get back in the time machine — especially amid the band’s reunion with guitarist-vocalist Tom DeLonge. After his departure under acrimonious circumstances in 2015, DeLonge’s return has made good on a years-long wish from fans, and made it seem that no time has passed at all as the band’s innate chemistry bubbled over in the 25-song set. Singer-bassist Mark Hoppus even gave the guitarist a kiss on the cheek before the band fully plugged in for the night.

A good chunk of the show paid homage to DeLonge and his out-of-this-world ideologies. (He basically left blink to research UFOs, after all.) Staying true to blink’s self-deprecating ethos, the night began with introductory music from Richard Strauss’ “Also sprach Zarathustra, Op. 30” (the defining composition in “2001: A Space Odyssey”) as bright lights and a groundswell of fog surrounded the shadowy figures of DeLonge, Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker as they walked to the stage, appearing to emerge from a backstage spaceship. Later, after performing “Aliens Exist,” a graphic of a faux tabloid newspaper appeared on the video screen with a photo of DeLonge under the headlines, “Tom’s incredible story: My brush with aliens.”

“Aliens Exist” hails from the band’s breakthrough album, 1999’s “Enema of the State,” which has been a prominent focus of the reunion tour setlist, largely the same since blink-182 made a surprise appearance at both Coachella weekends in April. “Dysentery Gary,” “Dumpweed” and “All the Small Things” were album standouts of the night, as was a giant blowup prop of an “Enema” art-decorated ambulance complete with blinking siren lights that hovered over the stage. During another “Enema” highlight, the emotive “Adam’s Song,” a montage of footage from blink’s early days played over the video screens like Polaroid snapshots of a bygone era worth celebrating.

If nothing else, for being the first album Barker appears on, giving modern rock music one of its greatest drummers over the past 30 years. He remains an absolute beast of a musician whose nonstop drum fills and solos could have made one fun drinking game for the night. If seeing him beat up his kit on the main stage wasn’t jaw-dropping enough (the cameras once or twice panned to his bandaged hands), toward the end of the set, Barker’s platform was rigged to cables that propelled him into the sky where his godly status was even more apparent.

Blink_182_05062023_1.jpg

Travis Barker pounds the drums during the blink-182 concert Saturday at the United Center.

Hoppus and DeLonge, on the other hand, poked fun at their own innocent mishaps, DeLonge giving himself a C+ for his delivery on “Dysentery Gary” and Hoppus (wearing a shirt promoting the incredible experimental hardcore openers Turnstile) declaring he “got one note wrong” on “Dumpweed” and made it up to the crowd by plucking it over again.

Blink has one new song to date — the catchy ditty “EDGING” — and played it with total aplomb. The setlist also curiously featured two songs from the era of Matt Skiba (“Cynical” and “Bored to Death”). Skiba, the singer-guitarist in Chicago’s own Alkaline Trio, took over for DeLonge from 2015 until his recent return, and while it would have been nice (and maybe a miracle) to see him guest in his hometown, those hopes were quickly dashed.

While it was a bit of a disconnect in some ways to see down-to-earth punk rockers with so much pomp and circumstance in an arena show — the rotating stage, the pyro effects, confetti guns and steam towers — there were plenty of moments of realness too, in particular when Hoppus made mention of his recent cancer battle and the gratitude to even be alive for blink’s reunion.

“It wasn’t so long ago that I didn’t know if I’d be able to come out here and play music for you again,” he shared towards the end of the night to a swell of applause and cheers, before the band devolved back into trademark juvenile humor. A great reminder — to quote the bandmates themselves — that “no one should take themselves so seriously,” no matter your age.

"A whistle-stop tour through the best-loved parts of the band’s storied career, marked by the inescapable turbulence of life": the reunited Blink-182 return older, wiser and stronger for their scars on One More Time...

Guess this is growing up: blink-182's classic line-up prove exactly why they're pop-punk royalty, and better together, on first post-reunion album.

Blink-182, 2022

You can trust Louder Our experienced team has worked for some of the biggest brands in music. From testing headphones to reviewing albums, our experts aim to create reviews you can trust. Find out more about how we review.

Their first new music with guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge in 12 years, Blink-182 ’s ninth studio album proves that with near-tragedies come new perspectives. After stepping down from his duties in 2015 to pursue his work in ufology, DeLonge - who co-founded the band with vocalist/bassist Mark Hoppus in 1992 – was replaced by Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba. A new iteration of the pop-punk trailblazers followed, the trio scoring their first number-one album in 15 years with 2016’s California . However, following Hoppus’ diagnosis with a rare form of lymphoma in early 2021 – the bassist undergoing extensive chemotherapy before being declared cancer-free - a secret meeting between Hoppus, DeLonge, and drummer Travis Barker took place. And so, having overcome past differences and reunited their best-loved line-up, One More Time… brings the long-anticipated return of the Mark, Tom & Travis show.   That warm familiarity hits just a few bars into opener Anthem Part 3 , with Barker’s light-speed drumming giving way to DeLonge and Hoppus’ duelling vocals. The guitarist’s iconic nasally delivery harmonising with the bassist’s sweet notes, the track calls back to the opening riff of the song’s previous instalment found on 2001’s Take Off Your Pants and Jacket , twisting it into a brighter, more cheerful form. Embracing a positive, forward-thinking mindset, it’s the first of a collection of songs across the album with one central focus – fun. Recent single Dance With Me sees Hoppus and DeLonge trading lines back and forth before a joyous – if slightly corny – singalong of, ‘ Olé, olé, olé, olé ’ dominates the chorus, whilst interludes Turn This Off! and hardcore-influenced You Talk To Much (Shut Up) hark back to the boyish humour of the band’s Enema of the State era.  Understandably though, nostalgia dominates Blink-182’s comeback, the album deriving its title from a heartfelt piano-driven ballad - featuring rare backing vocals from Barker - that addresses the band’s journey head on. Pop-punk anthem When We Were Young and pensive closer Childhood see the band reminiscing on rebellious pasts and first loves, whilst melodic cut Fell in Love – co-written with OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder – pays homage to one of the trio’s long-time favourite artists with an interpolation of The Cure’s 1985 hit Close To Me . That’s not to say that the album is without its curveballs though, with ‘80s-inspired synth-led Blink Wave undeniably influenced by DeLonge’s work with Angels & Airwaves and 83-second interlude Hurt dabbling in a similar atmospheric alt-rock space. Two of the album’s more reflective moments, this is where the magic of Blink-182’s latest chapter truly shines through, most notably on mid-tempo Hoppus-led track, You Don’t Know What You’ve Got - a poignant cut directly tackling the bassist’s cancer diagnosis.  A fitting summary of the journey Blink-182 have embarked upon since their 1992 formation, One More Time… feels like a catch up with an old school friend. Certainly familiar, yet noticeably marked by the inescapable turbulence of life, its a whistle-stop tour through the best-loved parts of the band’s storied career – guided by the trio who catapulted the project to stardom. Welcome back gentlemen.

Leaning heavily on material recorded back when Gen Z was in its infancy, the influential pop-punk group delivered a fast-paced set that both delivered the hits and exposed problems that certain bands face as they age. For all the fun suggested by the confetti cannons and the healthy camaraderie implied by the back-and-forth banter, the 90-minute show occasionally felt flat, the trio somewhat indifferent and overly casual.

During the better part of the past 20 years, Blink-182 has been a soap opera of comings and goings, dramas and traumas. Guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge, bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker originally disbanded in 2005 over creative differences and DeLonge’s desire to spend more time with family. Seeds for a reunion were planted after calamity — Barker survived a deadly 2008 plane crash and endured 26 surgeries during a prolonged recovery — prompted the ensemble to start talking again.

The reconciliation didn’t last long. DeLonge departed again in early 2015, with the camps issuing conflicting statements about the change. Hoppus and Barker soldiered on, enlisting the services of Matt Skiba from Chicago-based Alkaline Trio. Two uneven albums, as well as collaborative singles with electronic and hip hop artists, reflected the reconfigured group’s embrace of other styles. But once again, misfortune — this time cancer — triggered a gathering of the old friends.

In summer 2021, Hoppus confirmed he had Stage 4 lymphoma. (He now says he’s cancer-free.) At home, Hoppus met with Barker and DeLonge to talk about a variety of topics, with the meeting setting the stage for the current reunion. During rehearsals this past February, however, Barker dislocated and tore a ligament in his ring finger.

His resultant surgery forced the group to postpone its initial dates in Mexico and South America. Blink-182 instead returned with a surprise side-stage appearance at Coachella before later stepping in as a substitute headliner at the close of the California fest two weeks ago.

Drummer Travis Barker, and Tom DeLonge, of Blink-182, perform at the United Center on May 6, 2023.

Playing just the second show of its tour Saturday, Blink-182 was greeted by deafening applause before it sounded a chord. Hinting at the intimacy it once enjoyed in small clubs and in parking lots, the trio performed on an angled, relatively small (for an arena) rectangular stage. Lighting trusses that descended just a few feet above the musicians’ heads furthered a sense of proximity — at least for the band.

That closeness largely proved illusory even as it practically forced the animated Hoppus and slack-and-slide DeLonge to physically interact. Blink-182 also padded songs with spectacle that shattered any notion of back-to-basics simplicity. An inflatable ambulance, blowup rabbit, lasers, smoke plumes and pyrotechnic explosions complemented video-based backdrops comprised of cartoons or sketches. At one point, cables hoisted Barker’s drum platform into the air, where he and it remained suspended for several songs.

If anyone deserved such a spotlight, the shirtless percussionist did. Akin to a tireless machine, Barker attacked his kit with a vengeance, providing a strong rhythmic foundation and keeping pace matter the tempo demands. Though his approaches erred on the busy side and could’ve benefited from fewer fills, Barker played with a clarity and purpose that shored up a healthy number of tunes. The roughest parts of the concert — particularly, the slow lead-ins to “Cynical” and “I Miss You” — occurred during the handful of moments when his instrument stayed silent.

Fans stand in a packed at the United Center as Blink-182 performs on May 6, 2023.

As co-frontmen, Hoppus and DeLonge crammed between-song breaks with sarcastic quips, harmless disses, inane observations and potty-mouthed jokes. Too often, the remarks came across as stiff or unfunny. They also underlined a concern confronting Blink-182 as two of its members inch toward the 50 threshold Hoppus already passed: Can its signature blend of youthful uncertainty and juvenile humor still land knockout punches when the issues around which much of its music revolves — irresponsibility and immaturity — seem like nostalgic memories?

Yes, when the band tapped into the kind of slick hooks (“What’s My Age Again?”), jittery dynamics (“Dumpweed”), call-and-response exchanges (“Feeling This”), sugary melodies (“Don’t Leave Me”) and sticky choruses (“All the Small Things”) that helped stamp the songs with a timeless innocence and universal appeal. Yes, when it intro’d “First Date” with a snippet of the Ramones’ “Pinhead” and appropriated a verse from the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” into “Dammit.” And yes again, when Blink-182 turned to serious matters (“Stay Together for the Kids,” “Ghost on the Dance Floor”) and treated the works with the weight and urgency they warranted.

Hoppus’ mocking wisecracks about trying hard, assigning grades to his performance and flubbing notes tilted in the opposite direction, especially since Blink-182 hurt for tightness and sharpness. Ditto several selections (“Up All Night,” “Always,” “Down”) that traded in formulaic structures. Blink-182 presented its sole new track, “Edging” — one of just five songs the group included that dated beyond 2003 — without fanfare. It seemed like a missed opportunity and another instance of the trio failing to push itself.

Along with deceptively easy arrangements, nonchalance has long been tied to Blink-182’s identity. But the group’s present circumstances — a fresh start, arena settings, steep ticket prices — demand a deeper commitment. As other veteran bands know, this is growing up.

blink-182 World Tour Review: The Boys Prove We Can’t Do What They Do At BMO Stadium

Pop-punk legends blink-182 have been making 2023 their year, with a sold-out world tour, in what could be the band’s most successful tour in quite a while. Making their home show leading into the hot summer season at Los Angeles’ BMO Stadium was the perfect way to welcome in a summer of reckless abandon.

The venue, which can hold around 20k+, was filled with die-hard fans, almost all exclusively rocking the Target-sold smiley logo t-shirt. Fans who made the trip to BMO Stadium a little early were treated to blink-182’s soundcheck, which induced the hype meter into the sun-glared evening.

Signs around the venue featuring Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barker would wrap around the open-air stadium giving fans tons of photo opportunities while also getting early merch purchases out of the way. The perfect way to pick up your show merch, depending on your parking location, is just a quick trip back to the car, where you can drop off your goodies you might not want to hold for hours on end.

It didn’t take long before doors would open at 6 PM, and the long crowds would twist and turn passed the ticketing scanners towards inside merch tables, alcohol, and the mad dash to locate seats. Continuing the quick pace, it wasn’t long before our first taste of live music in the form of the fierce California natives, Destroy Boys, would take the stage to a great sea of concertgoers ready to get the show going.

destroy boys blink 182 world tour bmo stadium review june 16

Destroy Boys proved on June 16 why they continue to be a band to keep your eye on as they powered through their short set filled with high-energy, loud screams, owning the stage in the process transforming blink-182’s stage into their own, a perspective I could see for the band in a few years.

The only issue I’d say Destroy Boys encountered, at least as far as seated fans were concerned, is that, at times, vocals between Alexia Roditis and Violet Mayugba would get lost in the background of the band’s instrumentals, which sounded phenomenal.

However, when everything was in sync for Destroy Boys, the punk outfit was exceptional, and I became an instant fan, looking forward to my next time experiencing the energy the group leaves on stage.

The members of Destroy Boys would quickly leave the stage, leaving the crowd anxious for more and more, in this instance was, even more, high-energy antics, this time the drug being the powerhouse scope of Turnstile.

turnstile blink 182 world tour bmo stadium review june 16

I’ll be quite honest, I gave Turnstile quite a few play-throughs before heading out to BMO Stadium, and for whatever reason, their style of music never clicked in my brain as something I could see myself enjoying. It was pretty weird because a younger version of myself would be all over them.

But, those notions I had about Turnstile and their nostalgia-fueled style of punk would change the deeper we ventured into their crazy energy-filled set. Around their third song, I found myself hyped, jumping around like a madman, and attempting to sing back what I was hearing. In less than 10 minutes, I became a fan of Turnstile, as their brand of music truly reflects greatness in a live setting.

And now, while I’m writing up my thoughts in this show review, I have a variety of Turnstile songs playing in the background. Needless to say, one can really become a fan of someone just by their stage presence, and that’s something Turnstile has that many do not.

The crowd that grew increasingly more anxious for blink-182 to take the stage found themselves lost in the blur of Turnstile as pits opened up, phones were raised in the sky, and the band quickly showcased themselves as a heavy hitter in the space and, just like Destroy Boys, I found myself excited for the next time I would see this massive band in the making during a live experience.

9 PM came along swinging, as the lights throughout BMO Stadium once again shut off, and with a sea of screaming fans, blink-182 slowly took to the stage with their trademark smiley logo welcoming the occasion behind them.

Kicking things off with a blaze, blink-182 would start things off with “Anthem Part Two,” which got the entire venue on their feet as fans created small mosh pits with their friends and family in the seats while the sea of screaming voices on the floor created their own unique experience in the presence of these legends of the genre.

Bouncing between their hits, “The Rock Show,” “Family Reunion,” and “Man Overboard,” I quickly knew this was the best I’d seen blink-182 since their 2013 anniversary shows for their Untitled album. The energy between bassist Mark Hoppus and guitarist Tom DeLonge was top-notch, not once missing a beat, and in blink fashion BMO Stadium also got to enjoy the orgasmic tones of Travis Barker.

What makes the dynamic between Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge unique is knowing how long they have been friends, as jokes between the two land perfectly, even a few that had DeLonge cringe just a bit, which I never thought I’d see.

blink 182 world tour bmo stadium enema of the state june 16

The highlight of the night for me was hearing Tom DeLonge tackle the few Matt Skiba era songs the band has had in their setlist, including “Bored To Death” and “Cynical,” which DeLonge makes his own, and simply put, crushes! Hopefully, blink-182 will expand on the Skiba-era songs they include in future setlists, as there are quite a few songs I believe DeLonge could master with ease.

Regarding Neighborhoods , the tracks featured on the setlist, “Up All Night” and “Ghost on the Dance Floor,” exceeded expectations. Having heard many of these songs live before numerous times, I’ll keep saying it; this was the best I’d heard the band since their original breakup back in 2003.

The entire performance was organic, never once felt forced, and as others have mentioned, it seems like Tom DeLonge is very excited about this era of blink-182. It’s a refreshing take that couples lovingly with the optimistic outlook that Mark Hoppus brings to the band.

Alongside their usual onslaught of hits, fans seemed to connect with the group’s latest single, “Edging,” as the stadium further erupted in sing-along. The connection between blink-182 and their fans would continue as the night would come to a close with the loving sentiment that was shared between Travis Barker and his wife, Kourtney Kardashian, as the media personality would go on to reveal her pregnancy to the blink-182 drummer in a parody of one of the band’s memorable music videos.

blink 182 world tour bmo stadium fog june 16

Everything from Destroy Boys to Turnstile and finally blink-182, the BMO Stadium performance should go down as one of the best blink-182 performances in recent memory, which isn’t saying much as the band has consistently been killing it throughout their 2023/2024 world tour.

High ticket prices aside, this is a blink-182 tour fans of the band do not want to miss. Everything from the on-stage banter to the setlist and the overall atmosphere between the three members was pure magic, and I already want to drop another stack of cash to see them again.

Music and concerts | concert review: blink-182 performs act of magic at petco park san diego homecoming show, the sold-out performamance, which also featured san diego's pierce the veil and england's hot milk, was a welcome victory lap for the poway-bred blink. the usually brash three-man band concluded its performance on an uncharacteristically poignant note..

blink tour review

There were no visible acts of magic performed during blink-182’s sold-out, often triumphant homecoming concert Sunday night at Petco Park in downtown San Diego. No rabbits were pulled from hats. No one was sawed in half. No one was lowered upside down into a tank of water that was then padlocked and draped in black.

Even so, this Poway-bred pop-punk trio accomplished a feat that was as uncharacteristic as it was impressive. The usually raucous band — long noted for its brash, proudly juvenile lyrics and profane stage patter about sex and various bodily functions — concluded its 92-minute, 26-song concert with an introspective ballad about friendship, love and mortality.

Downbeat, vulnerable and unabashedly sentimental, “One More Time” is the title track of blink’s 2023 album. It’s the group’s first since 2011 to feature guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge back in the fold after his 12-year hiatus from recording with the band.

The new album was released three years after bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma — and 16 years after drummer Travis Barker survived a fiery plane crash that killed four of the six passengers aboard. Each of these life-or-death experiences inspired the members of this now-32-year-old band to reunite after extended periods of estrangement, the latest of which saw DeLonge replaced by Matt Skiba from 2015 to 2022.

“It shouldn’t take a sickness, or airplanes falling out of the sky,” DeLonge sang to his two bandmates and the 40,000-plus audience at Petco Park. “Do I have to die to hear you miss me? Do I have to die to hear you say goodbye? I don’t want to act like there’s tomorrow / I don’t want to wait to do this one more time.”

Pensive and understated, “One More Time” almost seemed to come from a different planet than most of the concert, including the four high-octane blink favorites that immediately preceded it: “What’s My Age Again?”; “First Date”; “All the Small Things”; and “Dammit” (which playfully quoted the chorus from Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”).

Swift, incidentally, performed at Petco in 2015 , about seven months after DeLonge’s departure from the band. The first Petco show by blink, with Skiba on board, came in 2019 at an invitation-only twitch.com convention.

Last year’s reunion of blink with DeLonge, who replaced his own replacement to rejoin Hoppus and Barker, kicked off at the 2023 Coachella festival in Indio. It was followed by a tour that included two shows last summer at Pechanga Arena San Diego.

There was a “welcome-back” air of celebration at blink’s Pechanga concerts . But it paled compared to the triumph of Sunday’s Petco performance, which was the sixth stop on blink’s 2024 North American summer tour and includes a Saturday L.A. date at SoFi Stadium.

At Pechanga, blink’s members were feeling their way back together. Hoppus was still regaining his voice after multiple rounds of chemotherapy, while Barker’s ferociously virtuosic drumming tended to dominate many songs, which was both a plus and a minus. The band’s Pechanga repertoire did not include “One More Time,”  “Edging” or the four other songs from blink’s latest album that were performed Sunday.

Happily, those new songs accounted for some of the highlights at Petco, most notably the thundering “More Than You Know” and the snappy, lust-fueled “Dance With Me,” which boasts the gloriously silly refrain: “Olé, olé, olé, olé!”

Very few veteran bands these days dare to include so many songs from their newest album, let alone a pop-punk band bringing its pyrotechnics-punctuated stadium show to a finish with a contemplative ballad about the frailty of life.

Playing with a renewed sense of purpose, blink took to the enormous circular stage after spirited opening sets by England’s Hot Milk and San Diego’s Pierce The Veil , whose enthusiastically received eight-song set culminated with rousing renditions of “Pass the Nirvana” and “King for a Day.”

Drummer Lionel Robinson and singer/guitarist Vic Fuentes of San Diego's Pierce The Veil performed Sunday at Petco Park prior to blink-182. (Meg McLaughlin / The San Diego Union-Tribune)

“We’re blink 182-from Poway!” DeLonge declared to cheers. It was one of multiple hometown references, including a shout-out to Rocket From The Crypt as “the greatest band ever to walk the face of the earth.”

“We used to play at a club not far from here,” Hoppus said, in between “Aliens Exist” and “Dance With Me.” “Our biggest (expletive) goal was to sell SOMA out.”

It was at SOMA that Hoppus and DeLonge met Barker, then the drummer in the Orange County ska-punk band The Aquabats. He joined blink in 1998, replacing the trio’s original drummer, Scott Traynor.

One of the most accomplished rock and hip-hop drummers of his generation, Barker combines expert precision and electrifying power in his playing. On Sunday, he alternated between two drum kits, one front and center on the stage, the other on on a metallic riser that hovered nearly 20 feet above the rear of the stage.

Other rock stars over the years have performed on drum kits suspended in the air, be it Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s Carl Palmer in the 1970s, Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee in the 1990s or Muse’s Dominic Howard in more recent years. But none of them can elevate even the most elemental songs as well as Barker did throughout blink’s Petco concert.

Whether playing pile-driving beats at insanely accelerated tempos or skittering syncopations that seemed to pay homage to the groundbreaking work of the late hip-hop production visionary J Dilla, Barker was a constant source of percussive skill, fire and imagination.

After “Dance With Me” concluded, Hoppus gleefully told the cheering, multigenerational crowd: “You can’t join a band and do what we do! It’s unique to us.”

On cue, DeLonge responded with a quip about oral sex, a topic that — like flatulence and incest — has long been a staple of blink’s stage patter.

Later, when DeLonge claimed to have lost his virginity to “the sister of a friend,” Hoppus volunteered that it was his sister, Anne, and – with a grin – described the situation as “awkward.”

If DeLonge, 48, and Hoppus, 52, appear too old to engage in such lowbrow hijinks, well, maturity has never been blink’s goal. Except, that is, with the show-closing “One More Time,” a song whose tender sentiments suggest that poignant insights and fart jokes can coexist at a rock show, even by a band whose potty-mouthed teenage sensibilities remain perpetually front and center.

Concert Review: Blink-182 In Chicago 05/06/2023

With the much-hyped return of Tom DeLonge , forthcoming new album, and their massive (yet pricey) world tour, blink-182 have a lot to live up to. Their highly anticipated reunion tour rolled into Chicago for the first of two nights at the United Center on Saturday (May 6th) and they showed Coachella wasn’t a fluke. They did not disappoint. Let’s be real, blink-182 aren’t exactly known for their live shows. Even their fans would admit they could be a little shoddy and sloppy. But over the weekend, they proved they’ve matured and grown (in some ways) sounding tighter than ever with a thrilling performance that included pyro, towering stage props, and confetti. Lots of confetti.

The 25-song setlist was nearly identical to their Coachella set from a few weeks earlier. It covered hit singles such as “All The Small Things,” “The Rock Show,” “First Date,” and “Dammit” along with favorites like “Reckless Abandoned,” “Family Reunion” and “Alien’s Exist.” Unlike their Coachella performances, they highlighted tracks from Neighborhoods (“Ghost on the Dancefloor,” “Up All Night”) and surprisingly a few Matt Skiba era tracks (“Bored To Death,” “Cynical”), which sounded great with DeLonge’s vocals. But no matter how many times you hear “What’s My Age Again?” or “I Miss You” they are so much fun to hear live. Looking at the smiles Mark Hoppus exchanged with the rest of the band, you could tell they were thrilled to be back in action.

As always, Hoppus and DeLonge’s classic banter was a highlight of the show. DeLonge can’t resist a good dick joke, often bringing up the topic unwarranted, while Hoppus played the role of everyone’s dad trying to keep DeLonge focused on the music. He even joked with the crowd saying he could but wouldn’t narc on them for smoking weed. Travis Barker kept to his role as the strong silent type letting his insane drumming do all the talking. The jokes were silly, crude, and sometimes groan-inducing, but they still made you smile and chuckle with the rest of the band.

The trio had a few tricks up their sleeve when it came to their stage show. A big floating ambulance with a caricature of the nurse from Enema of the State threatened to run over Barker during “Dumpweed.” Large video screens featuring their bunny mascot along with clips from their music videos loomed behind them throughout the night. Pyro, smoke screens, and confetti added to the party vibe of the night and Barker really showed off his chops when he was hoisted into the air, never missing a beat. But the most memorable was the giant inflatable bunny that peeked out behind the stage near the end of the show. The thought they put into their stage show made the evening even more memorable, truly turning into a celebration of the band Hoppus and DeLonge started 31 years ago.

So, did blink-182 live up to the hype? A thousand times yes. They’ve never sounded so good. They were tight and DeLonge’s sounded better than ever. As soon as they hit the stage a big goofy grin breaks across your face. Considering everything they’ve been through, a near-death experience, an “indefinite hiatus,” a reunion, a lineup change, and Hoppus’ cancer diagnosis, it’s amazing to see the trio back on stage doing what they love: playing music and making jokes together.

Live Review: Blink-182 @ RAC Arena

Blink-182 may have grown older, but their music remains forever young for an enraptured Perth audience.

More blink-182

Iconic pop-punkers blink-182 commenced the Australian leg of their World Tour 2023-24 last night to a sold-out Perth RAC Arena. The tour, while commemorating the band’s thirtieth anniversary, is most noted for the return of the band’s iconic lineup of the band: Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker and Tom DeLonge for the first time in almost a decade, a fact all the more remarkable given Hoppus’ diagnosis of stage four cancer in 2021.

Demand to see the reformed trio was unprecedented, with the initial tour dates in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne all selling out within minutes of going on sale back in October of last year. Additional dates were hastily added for each of the cities, but with tickets for these too also quickly selling out, the band has ended up with a massive fifteen-date run of Australia, something that they never did even when at their peak back in the day  While the value of nostalgia, especially in the current musical landscape, can never be underestimated, the blink boys seemingly mean more to many than even they are aware of.

And this special place that the band occupies in so many people’s hearts is never more apparent than when blink-182 take the live stage. While there were the expected signs of physical age on the band members, the group's live dynamic was as upbeat and energetic as it was in its heyday. Which probably shouldn’t be that surprising from a band who found fame in singing about just how goddamn immature at heart they are.

Accompanying the blink boys across the Australian continent are Rise Against, who added more heat to the already sweltering warm summer Perth night with a set of blistering politically and socially conscious charged melodic hardcore and punk anthems.

Kicking off their set with the multi-tempoed push and pull of Prayer Of The Refugee , lead vocalist Tim McIlrath was in stellar form, leading his troops in an all-out assault on the expectant audience. McIlrath’s vocals soared throughout the venue, as did the astounding solo shred work from lead guitarist Zach Blair .

Swing Life Away , from the group’s 2004 breakout album Siren Song Of The Counter Culture, was a standout moment of the set, with the song’s quieter musical texture serving to highlight the group’s tremendous harmonies and musical depth of the quartet. Set closer, Savior had the greatest impact on the near-capacity crowd, with its fast-paced riffage and melodic underpinning saw fists begin to pump and legs get into pogo mode across the GA section.

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

It was then not long before the lights were once again dimmed, and the strains of Richard Strauss ’ Also Sprach Zarathustra, Op. 30 filled the venue as an animation of the blink logo being spray painted on the big screen signalled the imminent arrival of the headliners. Bouncing onto the stage, the trio of Hoppus, Barker and DeLonge wasted little time getting down to business, kicking off the night with a stroll down memory lane via fan favourites such as Anthem Pt 2 , Rock Show and Man Overboard.

Stopping to consider the band’s current career trajectory, DeLong offered up the supercilious summation of “God damn it, we’re so good. It's like we had a break but now we’ve returned, and we’re just as good as ever” before Hoppus gave his lamest joke of the night, “Happy Perth-day everybody” proving the group still relish in the irreverent and cheeky, with the crowd eating it all up by laughing and cheering in response.

Mid-set, the band showcased three of their latest efforts taken from last year’s ONE MORE TIME…   The dual-vocal delivery of MORE THAN YOU KNOW was classic blink, while EDGING saw the band toy with rockabilly, while the triumphant throwback punk ode to masturbation of DANCE WITH ME , which climaxed with its chorus of “Olé, olé, olé, olé”, had the crowd singing along at the top of their lungs.

Elsewhere, the group debuted a new song, FUCK FACE , which featured Barker on vocals. These vocals, however, were completely lost on the crowd due to the drummer’s microphone being nowhere near his mouth and, following this, the energy of both the band and the audience seemed to go awol, as the band’s in-between ha-ha banter seemed to be replaced with a more oh-oh sense of tension between Hoppus and DeLonge.

However, this lull was soon rectified as the band hit the home stretch, with all the big hits coming out to play. The opening riff of What's My Age Again? received the greatest cheer of the night, while the pop-punk one-two of All The Small Things and Dammit showed the band knows how to ignite any party, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

Leaving the stage briefly, the trio returned to perform the heartfelt ONE MORE TIME , with its biographical lines of “Do I have to die to hear you miss me? / Do I have to die to hear you say goodbye?” showing that despite what they want you to think, there is more going on than dick jokes and puerile pranks in these men’s minds. At the song’s conclusion, putting their respective instruments down, the trio made their way to the front of the stage, arms linked to thank the audience.

blink-182’s performance was a time capsule, providing both longtime and newer fans a chance to relive the days when baggy jeans, chains, and dyed spikes were the epitome of cool. The band may have grown older, but their music remains forever young.

WAIT FOR IT !!!........... LIL WAYNE cancelled just hours before the show (rolling my eyes) so needless to say happy we showed up at 9pm because instead of lil wayne the fans were entertained by music mashups of rock and rap (crappy mix ups by the way) and music by the backstreet boys or n sync not sure which boy band it was but i was super annoyed when i heard the near sold out crowd singing along of "i want it that way" really crappy song but all these idiots were singing along like it was 6th grade but on to the positive blink 182 put on a great set for a whole 60 minutes yep 1 hour started at 9:30 was done by 10:30 great set pyro, smoke, cool video stage set up NO TOM DELONGE some new guy not his fault he played great but it wasnt teb same he didnt really sound like TOM so it was like blink 182 karaoke for some of the songs and the short set time I mean shit lil wayne doesnt show these guys could have saved the day and played longer but in typical rock star fashion they charged full price for tickets delivered half of a show and a short set disapointed much ? YEAH I WAS hate to say it but I mean it wasnt a 20 dollar ticket here tickets were not cheap but the amount of entertainment vs the amount paid for the ticket was not EQUAL felt pretty ripped off as a whole save your money this go round NOT WORTH THE CASH plus we drove 4 hours to go to this show so a few hundred dollars later we got and hour of a headliner entertainment hell KISS are 70 years old and played for 2 and a half hours the tickets were pricey but hell they were showmen and lots of fire, pyro, smoke, fireworks, ect stunts elevating risers ect so you tell me if its worth it to go see 40 year old entitled punks vs 70 year old vets who are doing a cash grab no doubt but are still delivering an experirience

Show exceeded expectations and was THRILLED we didn't have to listen to Lil Wayne - bonus. Thanks to St. Louis for helping to move him on his way to the next venue. Loved hearing Enema of the State in its entirety. Wish they had included Always but the other added songs were great as well. I thought Matt sounded great and thoroughly enjoyed a couple of the songs from California and NINE. Sad no encore but had a total blast singing along and dancing. Super charged stage show and Travis' drum solo was amazing but never long enough for me! (I'm sure plenty long for him - what a work out!) Neck Deep also put on a great performance. They are a GREAT opening act for Bink. Thanks for the show - and long lasting memories.

Blink 182 has been my favorite band as a kid back in ‘96 when I first heard of them and will always be. I finally got to see them live for the first tine ever in 2016, 20 years later because they came close to my hometown in Greenville, SC. Then about 3 months later to my actual hometown in Charleston, SC. I was close to the middle up front and had the time of my life. I thank the whole band for making one person’s dream come true just to see you live. I’ve always wanted to meet Mark and Travis!! I was so like it’s cool when Mark tried to throw me a pick but it landed short and he apologized and he Ent on with the show. But my heart filled up with joy when, in my opinion, the greatest drummer in the whole universe, Travis Barker!!!!, acknowledged me when I gave him a thumbs up. Wish I could meet and talk to then!! A dream for a lifetime. Blink 182 you will always be number 1 to me and hold a special place in my heart as you do to millions of fans!! Love you all and can’t wait for the bext album!! Including Mark’s new band aka The Side Piece. Mark if you ever read this’ please don’t take offense to the comment. Blink 4 Life!! Peace...

Following the international continuation of their world tour in 2024, there are several avenues to consider when looking for the latest on where to buy Blink 182 tickets for their concert series in North America and beyond. The 2024 One More Time tour takes place throughout the summer as the band plays in the US for the first time since July 2023.

While Blink 182 still has 35 shows to play internationally for the end of their 2023/2024 World Tour, the rock band – consisting of Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and Travis Barker – will head back on the road in North America shortly after for the One More Time Tour. The summer 2024 concert series includes 30 performances across as many cities in the US, kicking off on June 20 in Orlando, Florida.

Of course, Blink 182's classics like "All the Small Things," "I Miss You," and "What's My Age Again?" are also expected to be performed on tour.

We've got you covered when looking for how to buy tickets for Blink 182's 2024 tour. Here's our One More Time Tour schedule breakdown, purchasing details, and original and resale ticket prices. You can also browse the available resale tickets on StubHub and Vivid Seats at your leisure.

Christopher Abbott and Barry Keoghan Are Phenomenal in ‘Bring Them Down’

PERFECT MATCH

The taut, tragic drama thrilled audiences at its TIFF premiere, featuring two of the industry’s most exciting young actors at the top of their game—and that’s a high bar.

TORONTO—A spiritual companion piece to The Banshees of Inisherin that features another riveting performance from Barry Keoghan , Bring Them Down is an edgy small-scale tale that reverberates with epic tensions.

The story of a warring pair in the countryside whose livestock squabble boils over into violence, Christopher Andrews’ directorial debut—which premiered Sept. 8 at the Toronto International Film Festival —is a rugged and ragged affair whose suspense comes not only from its escalating-stakes action but from its charged performances and severe formal proximity to its protagonists. Taut and mournful, it’s a lament for the mistakes made in anger, the wounds that fail to heal, and the past that never truly seems to be past at all.

In an unspecified rural patch of Ireland, Michael (Christopher Abbott) manages the family’s flock of sheep and rams now that his father Ray (Colm Meaney) is disabled and largely confined to the chair in front of his archaic computer.

Returning home one evening, Michael discovers that their gate is busted, after which Ray hands him the full bottle of urine that he uses to relieve himself. Things are broken and dysfunctional in this quiet outpost, and that situation is exacerbated by a call that Ray receives from neighboring sheep farmer Gary (Paul Ready), who tells him that they found two of Michael’s rams dead on the hill. Upon visiting Gary’s place, Michael runs into former flame Caroline (Nora-Jane Noone) and her twentysomething son Jack (Keoghan), the latter of whom informs him that the beasts appeared to be sick and he disposed of them in the slurry.

All of this is preceded by a prologue in which an unseen Michael speeds dangerously down the road as his mother Peggy (Susan Lynch) and a young Caroline (Grace Daly) plead with him to be slow down. Peggy’s fragmented comments indicate that she’s leaving Ray, just as present-day tidbits indicate that the subsequent car wreck caused by Michael cost him Peggy and scarred and alienated Caroline, who’s now married to Gary.

When Michael goes to the mart to purchase new rams, he hears that someone has been cutting the legs off sheep. Worse, he discovers that Jack and Gary are trying to sell the very two rams of his that they claimed were dead. A heated stand-off ensues, with Michael’s eyes filled with blank rage as he stands face-to-face, body-to-body with Gary in the pen like an animal ready to fight.

Andrews’ camera is perpetually affixed to Michael’s face and body, attuning Bring Them Down to his resentment, self-loathing, sorrow, and fury, the last of which is—as suggested by intolerant radio reports and an offhand racist comment at the mart—endemic in this community. In the immediate aftermath of this confrontation, Michael is pursued on the road by Gary and Jack, whose truck topples when they fail to handle a sharp turn.

Despite the animosity between them, Michael rescues his tormentors from the vehicle and gets them home. For his troubles, he receives an earful from Gary, who goads Michael with talk about his responsibility for his mother’s death and the fact that Ray doesn’t know that the calamity was brought about by Peggy’s desire to leave him. Michael suffers this with a stone face, but he seethes over these insults.

To remedy his situation, Michael decides to bring the family’s flock down from the hill for the first time in 500 years. Yet doing so doesn’t provide him with the financial relief he needs, as Bring Them Down spirals further into tit-for-tat mayhem. At its midway point, the film rewinds to replay its tale from the perspective of Jack, who turns out to be not simply an antagonistic brute but a young man who, like his adversary, is deeply traumatized by the fear of parental separation, paternal cruelty, and economic ruin.

Andrews parallels without resorting to clunky one-to-one echoes, allowing the similarities between the two men to manifest via his curt plotting and harried aesthetics, marked by handheld cinematography that places a premium on sticking tight to his subjects’ faces, and a Hannah Peel score of nerve-wracking percussion.

Bring Them Down has an innate feel for its unforgiving milieu and its hard-bitten inhabitants, its authenticity felt in everything from its gorgeous if unsentimental panoramas of the Irish countryside to the Gaelic spoken by Michael and Ray (and the smile on the former’s face when he hears Caroline also use it, unlike Jack and Gary). The film is rooted in this region’s unique customs, traditions, and dynamics, and while it’s light on dialogue and often sparsely populated, it moves at the pulse-pounding pace of a thriller. There’s doom hanging over everything and everyone in its frame, and Andrews prioritizes that mood over italicizing his larger concerns, which slowly spill out from the corners of his central drama.

The epicenter of Bring Them Down ’s intensity, ultimately, is Abbott. With a far-off glare that’s darkened by anguish, ire, and desperation, the star proves an amazingly formidable presence, his every silent action and reaction exuding a messy tangle of emotions. Abbott is as good as he’s ever been (which is saying something), and he’s exceptionally complemented by Keoghan, whose Jack is another of the actor’s ramshackle, unruly Irish blokes.

In contrast to his The Banshees of Inisherin character, however, Keoghan’s latest pitiful loner channels his unhappiness not into suicidal despair but, instead, into reckless brutality, and that course of action plunges the film into a climactic showdown between its main characters, who appear fated to perpetuate the cycle of violence that’s defined their lives.

“You can do whatever you want,” says Caroline to her son, but Bring Them Down implies that, for Jack, Michael, and others trapped in this enclave, that’s not really true, since they’ve been corrupted—and stunted—by the ugly lessons learned at the feet of their fathers and by the lingering agony of their experiences in fractured households. Like the mutilated sheep that dot this picturesque landscape, these men are cut off at the knees and the best they can do, tragically (if, also, hopefully), is find a way to shuffle their way to safety, together.

Movie Review | ‘Blink Twice’ – One of the year’s best

This image released by Amazon/MGM Studios shows Naomi Ackie and Channing Tatum in a scene from ‘Blink Twice’.

It started out simply enough. Two women, down on their luck with bills to pay and barely scraping by, find themselves in the presence of billionaires and others in high society. With a pair of cocktail dresses and a dream, they managed to snag an invitation to the private island of Channing Tatum’s Slater King. The mission was accomplished, but after a few days, it seems it ought not have been one that they chose to accept.

They think, “What could go wrong?” The answer: quite a lot. Drawing on stories of power abuse, Blink Twice tells a tale of just that. A vacation of a lifetime is spent among affluent strangers, each exuding an energy that’s at best out of touch and at worst, downright exploitative. There’s a sense of entitlement among their travel companions long before any wrongdoing is revealed.

When the wrongdoing comes to light, it’s uncomfortable to watch. The film is accompanied by a trigger warning for sexual assault, leaving little mystery as to what viewers can expect. In its depiction of violence, the film shows just enough to be explicit without veering into gratuity. It’s as tastefully done as a depiction of such a distasteful act can be.

Before things take a harrowing turn, Blink Twice is a veritable feast for the senses. In the film’s honeymoon phase, the protagonists experience what feels like the world’s greatest, never-ending vacation. The sun shines brightly, and the vivid, picturesque island is portrayed as a glorious Garden of Eden. But slowly and surely, the film shifts in tone, introducing horror imagery that mirrors the story’s dark turn. The build-up to the film’s reveal is well-paced, creating tension without dragging its feet.

The film becomes gripping as things go awry, thanks in large part to the performances. The lead actresses convey euphoria, dread, and concealed terror with great effect. The display of evil carried out by people with influence gives its underprivileged underdogs a relatable enemy. The film’s message of the importance of solidarity among women is brought across as the mystery unravels. The characters provide empathy for one another, leading to surprising moments of humour in a horrific story.

Headlines Delivered to Your Inbox

Everything in Blink Twice serves the story it’s telling, and it’s one that isn’t very easy to tell. It doesn’t water down its subject matter, delivering a hard to watch film that’s relentlessly entertaining. There’s plenty of time left in 2024, but Blink Twice just may be one of the year’s best.

This article is reviewed by Dr. Neil Paulvin, DO., a multiple board-certified physician, and Heather Morsellino who uses her seasoned experience in health care to fact-check for accuracy.

Our bodies are in flux throughout our lives, and after age 50, the way we experience or enjoy sexual activity can change. ( 1 ) Couples who still prioritize sex to maintain their connection may run into roadblocks over time. It may not be clear why someone might experience erectile dysfunction (ED) symptoms, which can be caused by emotional issues, intimacy problems with a partner, a side effect of prostate cancer treatment, or medical issues not yet diagnosed. ( 2 )

“It’s important to recognize that erectile dysfunction can often serve as an indicator or barometer of underlying cardiovascular health,” said Amy Pearlman, MD , a urologist specializing in men’s sexual health at Prime Institute in Miami.

Treatment for ED is available and accessible, especially as online pharmacies begin to grow in popularity. Blink Health is a low-cost telehealth platform that provides generic prescriptions for ED without insurance and some specialty branded medications with insurance, which sets the company apart from its competitors. If you’re looking for a doctor to diagnose and treat ED, this platform may be for you. Here we review the pros, cons, and details of Blink Health and the types of ED medications it provides.

* For brevity, we refer to all people assigned male at birth as men throughout this guide.

What you should know

  • The first month of Blink Health costs $10.
  • Blink Health is a low-cost telehealth platform that provides generic prescriptions for ED without insurance.
  • Blink Health accepts insurance for name-brand ED medications that can be sent to local pharmacies for easy pickup.

What is Blink Health?

Blink Health is a healthcare service that offers two options: It can provide prescriptions through virtual visits with Blink Health providers, or it can handle medications you’ve already been prescribed, often at a lower price than you’d usually see at the pharmacy. If you choose to transfer a pre-prescribed medication, Blink Health can either ship it to your door in three to seven days or deliver it to a local pharmacy as early as the same day.

Blink Health providers can prescribe commonly used ED medications, including generic Viagra (sildenafil) and generic Cialis (tadalafil) in a multitude of dosages, at competitive prices.

Blink Health works with more than 16,000 pharmacies, including:

  • Albertson’s
  • Harris Teeter

If you opt to have the medication delivered to your home, Blink Health ships using discreet packaging, ensuring your comfort and privacy. If you have questions about your ED prescription or your treatment plan, you can message your doctors through a messaging portal on the Blink Health platform. You can expect a response within 24 hours.

For this Blink Health review, it’s important to note that the platform is now available in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. If you live in Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands, check to see if Blink is available for local pharmacy pickup by searching its pharmacy finder .

Blink Health for ED cost

Blink Health providers can prescribe generic ED medications at $10. This consists of an initial telehealth visit and the first month of medication. If you choose automatic monthly refills, it may cost $17. Blink Health doesn’t charge a monthly fee for medication delivery, but it charges a monthly fee for subscriptions, which include online provider consultations. If you’re prescribed medication, Blink Health will ship your medication automatically every 30, 60, or 90 days. You can cancel the service at any time.

Blink Health members can get ED medications in a variety of doses. The following table features a few of the medications available for ED through a Blink Health prescription and the accompanying costs. Blink Health keeps costs low by negotiating special offers to lower your out-of-pocket prices.

Blink Health for ED offerings

Your healthcare provider may prescribe two types of ED medication:

  • Phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitor: PDE5 inhibitors work by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual activity and to help maintain an erection. ( 14 )
  • Prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) agonist: This muscle relaxant opens blood vessels. PGE1 works by relaxing the muscles to keep blood in the penis to cause an erection.

Blink Health also offers popular ED medications like sildenafil and tadalafil in a multitude of dosages and pill or tablet quantities.

Generic Cialis (tadalafil)

Men can take this ED medication once daily and then engage in sexual activity any time between doses. Take this medication about 30 minutes before sexual activity, or when your doctor recommends.

Generic Viagra (sildenafil)

Men should take this about an hour before sexual activity.

Generic Levitra (vardena)

Like most of these types of medications, this ED drug works by increasing blood flow to the penis to help men achieve and maintain their erections. Men should take this about an hour before sexual activity.

Users can opt to use BlinkRx if they don’t already have a prescription for an ED medication. BlinkRx is a digital pharmacy for people who need a telehealth visit to get a diagnosis and prescription for select medications. The BlinkRx hub network analyzes your insurance coverage to determine your copay and deductible, assists in obtaining coverage for your prescribed medications, and provides free delivery to your home.

Our Blink Health experience

We shopped online and conducted focus groups with men who have used telehealth platforms for ED diagnoses and prescriptions to gauge their experiences. We wanted to get first-person testimonies of their experiences meeting with providers, receiving diagnoses, and getting prescriptions for ED medications like generic forms of Viagra (sildenafil) and Cialis (tadalafil). ( 3 , 4 )

Blink Health offers generic ED medications across the United States. Based on our interviews and focus groups with men who have used telehealth platforms like Blink Health for ED medications, we found that many had a similar story. Many participants described how ED symptoms started subtly and they began to notice an intermittent decline in erections but did not seek medical care right away.

“I thought it was kind of all in my head,” said one focus group participant. “After I got a divorce and met a new girlfriend, I was thinking, ‘This has kind of been a while.’ Maybe I was in denial. I didn’t go see a doctor. I was embarrassed. I felt weird talking about it.”

This mentality, and the feelings of shame or guilt that often come with ED symptoms, are not uncommon. ( 5 ) Many men decide to delay or altogether avoid seeking medical treatment, but it’s important not to wait—there are discreet, private ways to seek care.

This focus group participant said he felt more comfortable going online and seeing what was available, and he thought the online questionnaires were refreshing because based on the questions he was asked, he realized many men are dealing with similar issues. This knowledge gave him the confidence to see a doctor via telehealth and get an ED medication prescribed to revive his sex life.

Telehealth platforms like Blink Health may provide a more comfortable experience for men who are reluctant to visit doctors in person, and it would be a good fit for those looking for discreet, private treatment for their ED. ( 6 )

Our expert opinion

Blink Health is a good option if you’re looking for ED care online but would also like to have low-cost consultations with providers and access to both generic and name-brand ED medications.

Blink Health is also a good option if you’re looking for medication delivery since you can have your prescription delivered right to your door in less than seven business days, in discreet packaging.

Blink Health is also a much safer option than opting for unregulated supplements for ED. We understand discussing ED openly with your medical provider can be difficult and this has possibly led you to consider taking supplements or pills found in places like gas stations, but we must caution you against trying these supplements. Many of these gas station pills are unregulated supplements known to contain hidden ingredients that can be dangerous for people with high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol. ( 7 ) If you have taken these unregulated pills for sexual enhancement and have experienced adverse effects—chest pain, severe headaches, or prolonged erections—contact your doctor right away. ( 8 )

Seeking treatment is always the best policy. We held a focus group in 2023 to talk to men who have used ED medication after being hesitant to seek care.

“[It] was straight-up embarrassment, and I just figured it [ED] would go away on its own. I had to finally break down and see a doctor. But I had a very candid conversation with him, and it was easy. What the heck was I waiting for?”

Focus group member

One caveat to note in this Blink Health review is that Blink Health does not accept insurance for generic ED prescriptions, only name-brand prescriptions. So if you’re looking for insurance coverage on all medications, we recommend looking into PlushCare .

We also recommend looking into Hims , our top-rated telehealth platform for ED care, though Hims does not accept health insurance. PlushCare and Hims are telehealth platforms that specialize in men’s health, including offering ED treatment.

How to sign up for Blink Health erectile dysfunction treatment

If you know the name of the ED medication you are looking to purchase, you can search online or through the app on your Apple or Android device.

Once you find the medication, you will be shown the breakdown of the cost for your order, starting with the cost of the medication by the dosage, the subscription cost, the one-time medical fee, and any promos or coupons that are available to you.

Next, you will be prompted to select a pharmacy near you if you are picking up the medication on the same day, or you can choose to have it mailed directly to your home, which may take three to seven business days to arrive. If you opt to have the medication delivered to your home, your Blink Health provider will transfer your prescription to its pharmacy team, or you can ask your doctor to e-prescribe directly to Blink Health Pharmacy.

Lastly, you will enter your payment information to complete the transaction, and you will receive a confirmation email with details about shipping and arrival times.

Blink Health contact and payment information

  • Customer service

You can reach Blink Health customer service by:

  • Phone: Call 844-265-6444, available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Email: [email protected]

One thing we would have liked on the Blink Health website is more customer service options like a chat feature on the website. That way, we could ask questions via messaging, which is often a much quicker mode of communication than emailing or calling.

Switching prescriptions to Blink Health

If you’re finding better prices than what your current pharmacy offers, you can ask your doctor to send your prescription to BlinkRx U.S.

Doctors can e-prescribe to BlinkRx or send prescriptions by phone or fax:

  • Phone: 844-926-2480
  • Fax: 866-585-4631

Payment options

Blink Health accepts payments from major credit cards, debit cards, flexible spending account (FSA) cards, and health savings account (HSA) cards.

Special considerations of erectile dysfunction medication for older adults

Viagra and Cialis may be ineffective or dangerous based on your health history and current medications. Make sure you discuss any medications you take with your healthcare provider before taking ED medications.

Some of the most common chronic conditions affecting older adults—such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, and diabetes—can damage penile blood vessels and nerves, leading to new or worsening ED that doesn’t respond to Viagra or Cialis. ( 9 ) Fortunately, several other ED treatments are available, including penile injections, vacuum erection devices, and a discreet penile prosthesis. ( 10 )

ED can also appear as one of the first symptoms of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, anxiety, and other chronic health concerns. ( 11 ) If you haven’t had a physical exam within the last year, don’t try to get ED medication online. Visit your doctor in person to ensure underlying conditions are diagnosed and treated alongside ED.

Who shouldn’t take Viagra or Cialis

You shouldn’t take Viagra and Cialis with some of the medications used to treat chest pain, high blood pressure, or lower urinary tract symptoms. You should also avoid Viagra if you’re a man taking protease inhibitors—a specific class of medications used to treat HIV. ( 12 )

Combining nitrates or alpha-blockers with ED pills may cause a severe, life-threatening drop in blood pressure, which can be associated with feeling dizzy, fainting, falling, and even death. ( 13 )

This is not a complete list of medications that don’t mix well with Viagra and Cialis. Talk to your provider about everything you take—such as supplements and recreational drugs—when discussing ED treatments.

Cialis and Viagra also shouldn’t be taken by people with low resting blood pressure, uncontrolled high blood pressure, inherited disorders of the eye or retina, recent heart attack or stroke, or uncontrolled heart disease. “Other individuals who shouldn’t take Viagra or Cialis are people with low blood pressure, severe headaches, and dizziness,” adds Dr. Neil Paulvin, DO., a multiple board-certified physician.

How we score erectile dysfunction treatments

Navigating the vast array of erectile dysfunction (ED) treatments available today can be challenging. With so many options claiming to offer relief, it’s crucial to have a reliable way to determine which treatments are most effective and suitable for your needs. Our goal is to provide clear, accurate, and comprehensive reviews grounded in a robust scoring methodology and insights from leading experts. We aim to guide you in making informed decisions that enhance your sexual health and overall well-being. Read our full erectile dysfunction treatment scoring methodology for further information on each factor.

Efficacy and reliability are the foundation of our ED treatment evaluations. The primary focus for anyone seeking treatment is to restore or improve erectile function effectively. Here’s what we look for:

  • Treatment efficacy
  • Onset of action
  • Consistency
  • Side effects
  • Clinical support

Ease of use and accessibility are critical components of any successful erectile dysfunction treatment regimen. A treatment’s effectiveness can be significantly impacted by how easily it can be integrated into a user’s daily life.

  • Application process
  • Dosage flexibility
  • Instruction clarity
  • Convenience
  • Support resources

The value of ED treatments includes the initial cost, long-term financial implications, and overall cost-effectiveness. While effectiveness and ease of use are paramount, the economic impact of a treatment must be considered.

We evaluate:

  • Cost of the treatment
  • Insurance coverage
  • Long-term cost analysis

In order to ensure a positive customer experience, users need to feel informed and supported throughout their treatment journey. While efficacy, ease of use, and value are critical, how a user interacts with a treatment provider—from the initial purchase through ongoing support—can significantly influence their overall satisfaction and adherence to the treatment. Our factors in this rating include:

  • Delivery and packaging
  • Return policy

Bottom line

Having a satisfactory sex life is important for many people, and getting older doesn’t have to mean the end of this aspect of your life. If you and your partner prioritize sex but are experiencing roadblocks with ED symptoms, know that you’re not alone and help is available.

Blink Health offers telehealth visits from the privacy and comfort of your home. You can get budget-friendly ED medications prescribed and mailed to your local pharmacy or your home in discreet packaging. If you’re in the market for a low-cost telehealth platform that provides generic prescriptions for ED without insurance and name-brand ED medications with insurance coverage, Blink Health may be the right fit for you.

Blink Health vs. other ED treatments

Blink Health is a telehealth platform with licensed medical providers who can diagnose ED and other conditions and prescribe medications that can be sent to your home or local pharmacy. While shopping on the Blink Health website, you can select the dose and quantity of the medication as it’s written on your prescription, and you can opt to have your prescription automatically refilled when setting up your account.

If you already have a prescription but are shopping around for a better price, you can ask your doctor to send your prescription to Blink Health for verification. You can choose Local Pharmacy Pickup before adding your order to your cart. Then, you will show your Blink card at the pharmacy counter to receive your prescription.

Yes, if you have a prescription from your doctor, you can order medications on BlinkRx. If you don’t already have a prescription from a healthcare provider, you can meet with one of the licensed telehealth doctors through Blink Health to get a prescription.

Blink Health offers a subscription that has unlimited online prescriber consultations and medication delivery for a monthly fee. Having a subscription allows you to connect with licensed pharmacists to get answers to questions about your medication or potential side effects.

The cost is $10 for the first month—no matter which medication you are prescribed. After the first month, the cost is $9.95 plus the cost of the prescription medication. You can choose between deliveries every 30, 60, or 90 days and can pause or cancel your Blink Health subscription anytime through the account settings.

Marco Arop of Edmonton won the men's 1,000-metre race at the World Athletics Continental Tour meet in Zagreb, Croatia, on Sunday.

The 25-year-old posted a time of 2 minutes 13.13 seconds to set a Canadian record in the non-Olympic distance. Arop beat his previous mark of 2:14.35, set at the Monaco Diamond League meet in August 2022.

Kenyan-born Jonah Koech, who represents the U.S., finished 2.02 seconds behind Arop. Stefan Nillessen of the Netherlands was third.

Arop earned his first Olympic medal in Paris 2024, winning silver in the men's 800m event. He won the world championship in the distance in Budapest 2023, improving on his bronze from Eugene 2022.

Concert review: K-pop group Tomorrow X Together are at the top of their game

blink tour review

Tomorrow X Together World Tour Act: Promise In Singapore

Singapore Indoor Stadium Sept 7

Before a sold-out 9,200-strong crowd, boy band Tomorrow X Together, also known as TXT, showed why they have stormed the K-pop and global music scene in recent years.

Since their debut in 2019, the band have clinched a string of accolades. They were named Best Asia Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2022 and went on to become the first South Korean group to headline Lollapalooza, one of the biggest music festivals in the United States, in 2023.

The same year, they came in No. 7 on the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry’s Global Artist Chart.

The band, with members aged 22 to 24, are on a high. And judging from their electrifying performance at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, where they also performed in 2023 during their previous Act: Sweet Mirage world tour, they are not losing steam.

Here are three aspects of the quintet’s appeal that were apparent during the performance.

1. The cool kids

These are five undeniably good-looking guys, with a mostly female fan base.

Leader Soobin is known for his deep voice and cute dimples. Yeonjun, with his fiery-red hair, has a wholesome boy-next-door vibe, while Beomgyu’s sleek, ash-coloured mane looks straight out of an idol drama.

Hueningkai, who is half-German, has the right mix of dorkiness and exoticism, while left-hander Taehyun has the confidence and debonair appeal of a leading man.

blink tour review

Each is a pin-up, and together, they are like the stylish, out-of-your-league clique that the whole school cannot stop talking about. Donning flashy black blazers over white shirts and pants, they opened with the rousing Deja Vu.

When performing Sugar Rush Ride in traditional Korean outfits, their choreography incorporated fans with flower designs, stirring up much excitement over which member flicked open his fan with the most suaveness (this reviewer’s vote goes to Soobin).

During Magic, their oversized blue and white bomber jackets conveyed youthful energy, and were perfect for dropping over a shoulder or two at the opportune moment. They also shed the jackets to show off baggy T-shirts underneath. Although not a lot of skin was revealed, it was enough to elicit screams.

2. The dreamers

One of TXT’s draws is that they have aptly captured the heady rush of sweet infatuation commonly felt in one’s teenage years.

The cutesy Cat & Dog conveys the cloying clinginess of liking someone so much that you want to be his or her pet, while Loser = Lover expresses a devil-may-care attitude emboldened by young romance.

Dreamer depicts a protagonist on the cusp of adulthood, with big ambitions for the future. These tracks evoke a sense of wide-eyed optimism which is attractive and captivating.

3. The rock stars

blink tour review

Countering the idealism, TXT’s music also conveys angst-ridden frustration with reality.

New Rules, for example, is about charting one’s own path amid directions from teachers and authority figures, while the rock number Good Boy Gone Bad explodes with adolescent rage at life’s stress and expectations.

The bass-heavy Growing Pain laments the inevitability of getting older, which it compares to free-falling into the void, depicted by a deep growl of exasperation.

It is clear that TXT’s success does not come only from their comely looks. The Gen Zers have also given voice to the hopes and struggles of their generation.
