Good location, center”

Old funitures, no fridge, reception was not alway there, room was not cleaned every day - 2 days/time.

the receptionist is doing his job well”

we went directly at the hostal to book a room but the receptionist told us that there were no more available rooms, then i looked at my application to book a room at the same hostal then it happens to have a room availabe so i reserved the room. There were two availabe rooms that time but when we came he told us that there were no more available rooms. I told him that i have a reservation and when he looked that i have he suddenly told me that he thinks that one person could not probably come so he can give us the room. He told us to wait because the room is not yet ready, we have a lot of bags so i asked him if we could leave it for the mean time but he said no. A staff came and told him that the room was ready but he insist to us that we cannot enter yet and we have to wait. My friend was tired so he told me to go else where which is more better. We did not took the room because the receptionist did not accommodate us that well. Too bad.

Hotel wa OK”

This hotel was in a great location. Lots of restaurants and shops nearby. Walking distance from Placa de Catalunya and La Ramblas. Front desk staff was friendly. Room had a mold problem on the outside wall under the windows and in the bathroom. Curtains and curtain rods need to be replaced. We had a hard time getting them closed to keep the sun coming in. We were in a triple room. The two main beds were fine but the third bed was just a mattress on a frame with slats that were loose. A couple of times when I sat on the bed the slats slipped off the bed and the mattress fell in. The main room was clean but I gave the hotel a poor rating on cleanliness because of the mold.

Spacious room”

The room is spacious even have the balcony. There is a lift too.👍

Good location”

Good location, walking distance to many attraction like Casa Batlo and Casa Mila. Near to bus stop and metro.

#1 🏆 PICK FOR THE BEST HOSTEL IN BARCELONA

My pick 🏆 for the best hostel in Barcelona is Onefam Ramblas. The staff cook 🧑🏻‍🍳 amazing FREE DINNERS, the price is great 💰, the beds are comfy, and the atmosphere is super fun and social. You are also super well-located near some of the top attractions in the city.

Best Hostels in Barcelona

Below you will find my expert list of the best hostels in Barcelona. I suggest these hostels because they offer the best value for your money and will provide you with a clean, comfortable, and safe place to stay.

Cheapest Hostels in Barcelona

1. st christopher’s inn barcelona.

⭐️ Rating: 7.9/10.0 (6681 Reviews) Price: $12.00+ per night 📍 Location: Bergara, 3, Eixample, 08001 Barcelona Details: Read more on booking.com now!

Is this my fave hostel in Barcelona? No, not really. But, there are not many other places where you can get a bed in a 12-person dorm for as little as $12.00 per night.

Plus, St. Christopher’s Inn Barcelona is conveniently located near La Rambla. You’ll also love that this is one of the cheapest hostels in Barcelona with a large bar and impressive outdoor area right next door.

“Central location close to Gaudi architectures, Gothic Quarter, and bus stop from the airport. Well equipped kitchen and common areas.” Mai ( read more reviews now )

To enhance the hostel’s friendly atmosphere, and to keep guests engaged, a variety of daily events are organized and are available for you to enjoy.

One downside is that the mattresses inside snug pods are a bit thin. But, beds do come equipped with privacy curtains that will help you get a good night’s sleep.

Pro Tip: You’ll love the central location and the fact that you can get FREE drinks after 8:00 pm. Whoop, whoop.

However, this hostel is usually packed and there is always a line to check in at the first desk. The bathrooms also aren’t super clean.

2. HelloBCN

⭐️ Rating: 8.0/10.0 (167 Reviews) Price: $18 per night 📍 Location: Lafont, 8-10, Sants-Montjuïc, 08004 Barcelona Details: Read more on booking.com now!

HelloBCN really shines as one of the best hostels in Barcelona due to its reasonable prices, hospitable staff, and social atmosphere.

Staff always go out of their way to enhance your stay. They even offer a variety of on-site events and exclusive discounts to some of the best nightclubs in Barcelona.

But the best part? This is one of the cheapest hostels in Barcelona that serves a BUFFET breakfast for just €2.00! Seriously, you cannot beat that price!

“This is a correct hostel. The staff is always smiling and everybody is polite (as are all the staff in Barcelona everywhere)!” Domotor ( read more reviews now )

Additionally, the hostel is home to several common areas where you can hang out and play ping-pong or board games while you cook your meals in the kitchen.

For enhanced security, guests are given electronic wristbands that provide access to the hostel. Secure lockers are also in every dorm, which comes outfitted with basic beds that have comfy mattresses.

It’s worth noting that some of the rooms have extra noisy doors. So, you’ll be disturbed every time someone opens and closes the door.

3. Sant Jordi Hostels Sagrada Familia

The stunning stained glass interior of La Sagrada Familia. This is one of the best things to do in Barcelona.

⭐️ Rating: 8.6/10.0 (2507 Reviews) Price: $19+ per night 📍 Location: 60 Furman St, Brooklyn, NY 11201, United States Details: Read more on booking.com now!

“Staff is incredible and the whole stay was great! Met few people that were lovely :)” Elizabeth ( read more reviews now )

Meanwhile, the outdoor lounge is open 24 hours a day. It is a great place to BBQ, chat, and enjoy a movie night since there is a large projector.

Yes, the dorms are small and the beds are not super cushy beds. But, this is one of the best hostels in Barcelona with an epic location in the city center.

Wifi is also available throughout the hostel and there are free-to-use computers to help you stay connected.

Just know that there is an age restriction at one of the cheapest hostels in Barcelona. So, you must be between 18 and 45 years old to book a room here.

Pro Tip: This hostel is great because it has a super social atmosphere and is well-located near the metro and Las Ramblas, Plaza d’Espanya, Montjuic, and the beach. You also can’t beat the price.

Just note that this is more of a party hostel than a “quiet, everyone is in bed by ten” hostel.

5. Onefam Paralelo

⭐️ Rating: 9.4/10.0 (703 Reviews) Price: $27 per night 📍 Location: Salvá, 62, Sants-Montjuïc, 08004 Barcelona Details: Read more on booking.com now!

Another one of the cheapest hostels in Barcelona, Onefam Paralelo is a lot like the other Onefam hostel listed (so same age restriction of 18-45).

It is an exciting party hostel in Barcelona that is well-suited to solo travelers looking to meet people.

Every night includes a special event, with tons of organized activities on offer, as well as free dinners once a week.

Despite the energetic atmosphere, the hostel still has space for you to relax and get some work done in the spacious common room.

“Onefam Paralelo is such a great hostel, the staff is amazing (massive thanks to Bea, Fabio, Eoin and Jeff!). The hostel organizes great activities throughout the day, which I enjoyed a lot. Also the (free) family dinners were a great opportunity to meet new people and make friends. One thing is certain: you will not regret booking this hostel if you are looking to socialize and meet people from all over the world! I would highly recommend staying in this hostel.” Viva ( read more reviews now )

Plus, if you’re in the mood for a quiet evening, just head to a movie room that comes with Netflix or just get some laundry done in the laundry room.

Now, when it comes to dorm rooms, beds are arranged to maximize comfort and privacy. So, you’ll sleep inside cozy pod beds, with no more than eight beds per dorm room.

All beds also come with personal lockers, outlets, and light in all rooms to make your stay at one of the best hostels in Barcelona extra comfortable.

Pro Tip: The owner is on-site and helps create a family vibe that contributes to the social atmosphere.

Best Hostels in Barcelona for Solo Travelers

6. kabul party hostel.

A group pf men and women dancing with their hands up in a smoky night club. Purple and blue lights enhance the atmosphere at one of the best hostels in Barcelona.

⭐️ Rating: 8.3/10.0 (3824 Reviews) Price: $17+ per night 📍 Location: Plaça Reial, 17, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona Details: Read more on booking.com now!

As the name suggests, Kabul Party Hostel is one of the best party hostels in Barcelona.

Therefore, it is perfect for solo travelers who want to stay out late and enjoy Barcelona’s incredible nightlife scene.

Personally, this is not my favorite hostel but I am also not their target audience since my partying days are long gone.

That being said, this hostel has a lot going for it and is on this list for a reason.

“Great place to meet new people, especially solo travelers. Best hostel i ever stayed in. They are giving many free things to use for hosts. Staff people are, its not enough to say great. Thanks and hope to see you again :)” Ivan ( read more reviews now )

So, you’ll love its epic location in the city’s stunning Gothic Quarter. It’s also a full-on party hostel that has nightly events and pub crawls for you to enjoy.

This way you don’t have to explore Barcelona by yourself if you don’t want to.

Dorms are also clean and beds come with curtains. However, the beds do squeak a bit as you climb to the top bunk.

There’s also a large common area that occupies an entire floor, with a bar, an internet area, a pool table, and a cafe. It’s a super social spot and a great place for solo travelers to meet people.

Pro Tip: A bonus is that you can’t hear any of the noise on the street in the hostel itself. However, the shower does not stay on for long and you need to push the button a lot to get more water.

7. Yeah Hostel

Breakfast is also on offer and you can spend the night sleeping in an uber-comfy dorm bed with a nice, thick mattress.

There’s even a well-equipped kitchen that is complemented by a variety of mixed and female-only dormitories, with private rooms available that can accommodate between two and four guests.

However, one downside is that the elevator can be a bit slow. Top bunks also don’t have privacy curtains and the charging ports can be hit or miss.

Best luxury hostels in barcelona, 8. pars teatro hostel.

A view of the crystal blue waters and stunning beach in Barcelona. You can visit when backpacking in Barcelona.

⭐️ Rating: 8.2/10.0 (801 Reviews) Price: $16+ per night 📍 Location: Albareda, 12, Sants-Montjuïc, 08004 Barcelona, Details: Read more on booking.com now!

This is one of the best hostels in Barcelona that is well-priced but feels like a luxury hostel since it has all this awesome vintage decor everywhere.

In fact, Pars Teatro Hostel feels almost like a boutique hotel with theater-themed decor that extends along the walls and into the common area.

Plus, the hostel is centrally located in Poble Sec. So, you’re just a hop, skip, and jump away from epic beaches and Barcelona Port.

You can also take part in a ton of different in-house activities like beach parties, jam sessions, communal dinners, pub crawls, and sangria nights.

“Very clean hostel and they have a well equipped kitchen to prepare food. Also the atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable.” Antonio ( read more reviews now )

Another highlight of one of the best hostels with private rooms in Barcelona is that you’ll be given a free beer right when you arrive, along with an invite to daily tours of the city.

Then, after a full day of exploring, crash on super comfy beds with awesome charging outlets inside super sleek, modern rooms.

Yup, the cool vintage vibe does not extend into the fully modern white rooms.

Other facilities include a kitchen, laundry, a lounge, a games room, and a tour desk.

It’s also worth noting that breakfast is served every day for €3 per person. And if you stay for one night, bed linens will cost €3.

However, for stays of 2 nights or more, bed linens are included at no additional charge.

Pro Tip: This is one of the best hostels in Barcelona if want to get away from super touristy areas and see how locals live.

It’s also worth noting that guests must be 35 or under, creating a youthful vibe.

9. The Central House Barcelona Gracia

What I love about The Central House Barcelona Gracia is that it feels more like a boutique hotel than an actual hostel. Especially since this hostel is set inside a historic building from the 19th century.

But, that’s what you get when you stay at one of the best luxury hostels in Barcelona.

Additionally, you’ll have a wide variety of rooms to choose from with four, six, eight, or ten-bed mixed dorms available, as well as with female-only rooms.

“Stayed here with a buddy and this hostel genuinely ticked every box we could think of. Cleanliness, location and the staff were all top notch. Really fantastic value for money and levels above other hostels I’ve stayed at across Europe. Appreciated the recommendations by the counter staff as well on authentic Catalan food for budget travellers, their friendliness was the cherry on top for our stay!” Robin ( read more reviews now )

Beds also come outfitted with privacy curtains, personal lights, and individual power outlets, as well as a giant locker beneath the bunk bed.

Just be sure to bring your own lock, although towels are included with your stay.

Meanwhile, daily housekeeping services keep everything spotless and the awesome staff will help you create an epic Barcelona itinerary.

You’re also 300 feet from a metro station and can use a gorgeous terrace that is filled with comfy sofas, plants, and even a quaint little pergola.

You even participate in beach volleyball or enjoy a free family dinner daily before hanging out on the patio/lounge.

Truth be told, the beds kind of suck since they are just metal bunk beds. But, there are lockers in every dorm and the facility is super clean.

“Free coffee!! Nice boy at the reception. The staff are like family (I saw them baking cakes for Christmas). The beds are very comfortable and the location is excellent. It was spacious and comfortable.” Daria ( read more reviews now )

You can also cook meals in a shared kitchen, use their on-site laundry service, take advantage of luggage storage, or study in a computer room that is open twenty-four hours a day.

The price is also super reasonable and you get free coffee, making this one of the best hostels in Barcelona for students.

Pro Tip: The bathrooms are not the cleanest and be sure to bring your own towel since they will charge you to use one.

11. Bed and Bike Hostel

⭐️ Rating: 8.6/10.0 (1058 Reviews) Price: $23+ per night 📍 Location: Diputación, 360, Eixample, 08013 Barcelona Details: Read more on booking.com now!

What makes Bed and Bike Hostel in Barcelona unique is the fact that they offer FREE bike tours every morning.

You can even rent a bike here for around €7.00 per day (linens/towels are also for rent) and take advantage of cool sangria nights and free dinners.

“Best experience in a hostel ever! The staff was there 24h and everyone was very welcoming and kind. I have to thank especially Sebastian for his kindness in helping me save my phone at 6 am, if it wasn’t for him I would not have been able to get it back. I highly suggest going here for a holiday in Barcelona!” Bmaja ( read more reviews now )

Dorm beds are also modern with privacy curtains, lockers, and A/C, even though beds and lockers can make a lot of noise. Some upper bunks are also not well-protected from ambient light.

But, when you’re ready to be social, use a common area that features a pool table, TV (with Netflix), video games, and more.

This is one of the best hostels in Barcelona that is also well-located near Sagrada Familia and you can use the 24-hour front desk, or tour desk, to help make the most of your time in the city.

Things to know about Hostels in Barcelona

We share more details on the city itself. Let's talk a bit about the neigborhoods, safety tips and a few more basics you need to know when backpacking Barcelona.

Neighborhoods in Barcelona

Barcelona's most touristic areas are Placa Catalunya and the Old Town with Gothic Quarter (Barrio Gótico), El Born and El Raval.

These neighborhoods are very busy at night, so depending on where you are staying, it can be quite loud and not as comfortable.

We also recommend staying in Poble Nou (the beach area), Barceloneta (not many hostels here though), Poble Sec and Sant Antoni (Hipster Neighborhoods).

Check all hostels in Barcelona near beach here .

Gracia is the artsy neighborhood with great cafés, galleries, and bars. It is a popular neighborhood to get drinks and enjoy dinner.

The famous chess-formed neighborhood Eixample is another iconic area. Yet, this area is actually huge. Eixample includes the area around La Sagrada Famila, Passeig de Gracia, all the way to Sants.

Again, as long as you are staying within the proximity of the Old Town, your location will be good.

Safety Tips for Barcelona

Barcelona has a pickpocketing problem, no doubt.

Same as Rome and Paris , you really have to pay attention to your belongings when walking around, in public transport and especially the beach. Do not leave your belongings unattended when going to the beach. It is a well-known issue.

Therefore, pay some attention, and we recommend using pants with zippers, as an example. “ Luckily ”, armed robbery with physical violence is very rare, and thieves are “ only ” interested in your smartphone and wallet.

Hostel Safety Tips

Hostels are a great way to meet new people and save money while traveling, but it's important to be aware of your surroundings and take some precautions to stay safe. Hostels are in general very safe . Either way, always use the lockers for your valuables. Better safe than sorry! Here are some hostel safety tips to keep in mind:

Choose a safe hostel:

  • Look for hostels in safe neighborhoods with good lighting and security features like lockers and secure entrances.
  • Read reviews from other guests to get a sense of the hostel's atmosphere and safety.

Secure your belongings:

  • Pack a lock to secure your belongings in the hostel lockers.
  • Keep valuables with you, such as your passport, credit cards, and cash, or use a money belt.
  • Don't leave your belongings unattended in common areas.

Be aware of your surroundings:

  • Let someone you know where you're staying and when you expect to be back.
  • Be aware of your surroundings, especially at night.
  • Trust your gut instinct and avoid situations that make you feel uncomfortable.

Make copies of important documents:

  • Make copies of your passport, ID, and travel insurance documents.
  • Scan these copies and email them to yourself so you can access them from anywhere.

Be mindful of your alcohol consumption:

  • It's easy to overindulge in a social hostel environment.
  • Be mindful of your alcohol consumption and avoid leaving yourself in a vulnerable position.

Hostel staff:

  • The hostel staff is there to help you.
  • If you have any concerns about your safety, don't hesitate to talk to a staff member.

Hey there, I'm Dormitory Dave – a backpacker and hostel aficionado at heart. I absolutely love exploring new places, meeting new people, and sharing travel stories over a pint of beer. For me, the sense of community that hostels provide and the opportunity to connect with people from all over the world is what makes my travels so enriching. In fact, some of my closest friends were made while staying in hostel dorms around the world. When I'm not on the road, you can find me reminiscing about my travels over a plate of spicy street food or working on yet another travel article for Hostelz.

This smashing budget-friendly hostel in Barcelona was pretty much made for solo travellers, so let me tell you why. The range of activities and strong sociable vibe makes it easy to meet new people and have a fab time.

Onefam Sants is in the laid-back and more local area of Sants. It’s close to the Estació de Sants (Sants Train station) and metro station. This area is quieter than areas like the Gothic Quarter but is still within walking distance of Plaça España and Montjuïc and has a social atmosphere.

3. Fabrizzios Terrace Youth Hostel – Best Cheap Hostel in Barcelona

Best Cheap Hostel in Barcelona #1- Fabrizzios Terrace Youth Hostel's sofa area.

  • Dorm (mixed): From $31
  • Private Room: From $123
  • Address: Girona 49, Eixample, 08009 Barcelona, Spain

This is definitely one of the best overall hostels in Barcelona too. Rated 9.8 on Hostelworld by nearly 2000 other backpackers, YES 9.8!!!!! What more do I need to say about this place?!

Though Barcelona can be expensive , budget hostels with a social atmosphere aren’t that hard to find. Fabrizzio’s Terrace definitely stands out with the incredible value you’re getting for such a low price.

It isn’t just the central location (walking distance of La Sagrada Familia and other Gaudi classics) that makes this an awesome hostel in Barcelona city’s centre. If you’re a budget traveller who doesn’t want to cut back on all luxuries, this is the right hostel for you. Just because it’s cheap accommodation doesn’t mean the experience is any less incredible.

  • Age restriction
  • Beautiful sun terrace
  • Central location

Yup, you read right, this cool hostel is restricted to people between the ages of 18 and 40 . This is kind of a bummer if you don’t fall into this category, but for everyone else, it makes their stay more relaxed and peaceful (no screaming kids, etc…).

Filled with colour and character, this lively hostel has a beautiful terrace, a comfy TV lounge, and a communal kitchen. The dorms are equipped with air conditioning, massive secure lockers that fit even the biggest backpack, and super comfy bunk beds.

Free Wi-Fi, a PlayStation, Wii, board games, and a book exchange provide plenty of ways to kick boredom away. With so many entertainment options and charm, you’d think that the price is super high, right? In fact, it’s actually one of the cheapest hostels in Barcelona , very friendly on your budget !

Aether Backpack

We’ve tested countless backpacks over the years, but there’s one that has always been the best and remains the best buy for adventurers: the broke backpacker-approved Osprey Aether and Ariel series.

Want more deetz on why these packs are so  damn perfect? Then read our comprehensive review for the inside scoop!

4. Pars Teatro Hostel – Best Party Hostel in Barcelona

Pars Teatro Kitchen/Living area. Hostel Barcelona.

  • Dorm (mixed): From $35
  • Address: Albareda, 12, Sants-Montjuïc, 08004 Barcelona, Spain

This popular party hostel in Barcelona, Pars Teatro Hostel is within easy reach of Barcelona’s city centre, the best beaches , and Barcelona Port. A hive of activity, there’s always something going on here. Events include communal dinners, jam sessions, beach parties, pub crawls, sangria nights, and more!

The super comfy beds are perfect to cure the next day’s hangover since they’re equipped with individual charging stations. You can watch Netflix all day long until you feel halfway human again… so you’re ready for the next round of pub crawls! We’ve already told you that this hostel is ideal for party animals , but it’s actually got so much more to offer than just a dorm bed and pub crawls.

  • Very unique style
  • Free cold beer when you arrive!
  • Free daily tours through the city

Let’s start with the style – you’ll find no other hostel with such a unique, cool vibe and social atmosphere as this. The antique vintage design in the common areas gives the place a very special flair, while the bedrooms are sparkling white.

It’s the best of both worlds. Who knew the best party hostel could also be one of Barcelona’s best boutique hostels too?

The staff will quickly feel like long-lost pals and the age limit of 35 gives the place a proper Barcelona youth hostel vibe. And with mixed and female only dorms to choose between, you stay your way.

The top-notch facilities include laundry, a kitchen, a laid-back lounge, a games room and a tour desk. The great, central location is just as unique as the design. You’ll find yourself in Poble Sec, one of the local neighbourhoods .

If you want to experience the real Barcelona, away from all the fake tourist stuff, this hostel should be your go-to! It’s also within walking distance of Montjuïc, Plaça España, and The Gothic Quarter for those wanting to experience some culture. I love staying fit on my travels by walking around and Poble Sec metro station is close by, just two stops from La Rambla.

5. Sant Jordi Hostels Apartments – Best Hostel for Digital Nomads in Barcelona

Sant Jordi Hostels Apartments Barcelona Spain

  • Private Room: From $401
  • Address: Carrer Freser, 05, Barcelona, Spain

The digital nomad lifestyle can be a real dream. But only if you find the right accommodation. Luckily, there are quite a few laptop-friendly hostels in Barcelona but this one truly stood out to me.

It might not be the cheapest place in the city, but it definitely comes with a lot of bang for your buck. And, if you get a few of you sharing the apartment, living the Spanish digital nomad dream , it’s cheeeeeap. Of course, the free WiFi is as fast as it could possibly be, so you can get work done within the blink of an eye!

I love this cool hostel, you get the hostel experience with the separate common rooms with the Sant Jordi Hostels social atmosphere… And, you get to have your own space completely in the apartments. Also, the perk of being in a stunning local neighbourhood that you can roam around after work is the cherry on top for me.

Why you’ll love this hostel:

  • Modern Hostel
  • Daily Free Walking Tours

It’s located in the lively neighbourhood of Sagrada Familia , so you can head out and enjoy the rest of the day. As part of the Sant Jordi Hostels family, you’ll be privy to all the fun hostel events and able to access their separate common rooms. These are great places to meet new amigos, solo travellers or groups of new friends to make the most of the weekends with.

Take advantage of the bike hire too, to bike Barcelona is to see it from a whole different perspective! I also love that you don’t have to mess with mixed or female only dorms, you can choose who you want to stay with.

If you’re a party lover, this place won’t be the right one for you as it’s one of the more chilled Barcelona hostels. You’ll find a grown-up and respectful crowd that prefers a quiet stay so they can work on their laptops in peace. However, as I mentioned before, this modern hostel is located in a lively area so you get the best of both worlds.

The daily cleaning service is one of the many perks of Sant Jordi Hostels, you’ll always come home to a clean space. If you need any help during your stay, reach out to the super kind staff and they’ll be happy to assist you, always. This hostel is known for great hospitality, so you’ll definitely be taken care of.

Active Roots Security Belt

Stash your cash safely with this money belt. It will keep your valuables safely concealed, no matter where you go.

It looks exactly like a normal belt  except for a SECRET interior pocket perfectly designed to hide a wad of cash, a passport photocopy or anything else you may wish to hide. Never get caught with your pants down again! (Unless you want to…)

To really make it easier to find the right hostel for you, here are even more options for the top hostels in Barcelona. If you haven’t found your perfect match yet, don’t fret. I have a few more suggestions for ya!
