White Reaper have revealed their latest album, Asking for a Ride , along with its debut single “Pages” and the band’s new stretch of 2023 tour dates (grab your tickets here ). Their fourth LP is set to arrive on January 27th.

The Louisville rockers recorded and almost entirely self-produced the new set in Nashville with engineer Jeremy Ferguson. According to guitarist Hunter Thompson, writing the upcoming album was a breakthrough in which “we started to recognize how we operate best as a band.” With a stronger focus on the group’s “raw energy” from their electrifying live shows, frontman Tony Esposito explained they would consistently ask, “‘Does it sound good when we play it in the room together?’ And if it does, those are the songs we want to pursue.”

The first sample from their live in-studio experiment is the loud and loose single “Pages,” which also closes Asking for a Ride . “It seems like ‘Pages’ could’ve easily existed on one of our earlier records,” Esposito noted. “It’s just a few chords and a simple melody, but because of that, I’d say that it’s pretty unique to the rest of our new album.”

“Pages” also served as a reunion between the Kentucky quintet and Lance Bangs, who directed the music video and previously helmed the “Real Long Time” visual. The shoot at Portland, Oregon’s Keller Fountain was yet another great success to Bangs, who shared, “White Reaper are a joy to make things with, 5 guys that are good company in recording studios, house parties, live shows, and anywhere else you can spend time among them… We filmed on a bright, warm afternoon and conjured up a video that feels like the song: dynamic, catchy, genuine.” Watch the music video for “Pages” below.

Asking for a Ride arrives on January 27th via Elektra Entertainment with pre-orders ongoing. A week after the release, White Reaper will launch their 2023 tour in Louisville on February 7th, followed by stops in Los Angeles, New York, and more. The North American run will be bookended by yet another hometown show in Louisville on March 25th. Tickets go on sale Friday, October 28th at 10:00 a.m. local time, while a Live Nation pre-sale will begin on Wednesday, October 26th at 12:00 p.m. local (use code PUMPKIN ). Great show. Very laid back crowd which seemed to irritate them, mostly the keyboarder. They were strong musicians with a variety of sounds. I was pleased with both opening bands as well. And I totally dig the Doug fir so great night.

Awesome energy, awesome crowd. Little bruised up from being in the front, but very very fun. Always gotta go to a white reaper show when they're in town. Never disappointed.

Hong Kong’s premier music and arts festival,  Clockenflap , is to return this November, with organisers revealing the first acts.

American guitarist Jack White, UK DJ/producer Jamie xx, French electronic duo Air, critically acclaimed US singer-songwriter St. Vincent, and British psychedelic pop-rockers Glass Animals are set to play the Central Harbourfront on November 29-December 1, 2024.

The Saturday night headliner is still to be announced. Tickets go on sale next Friday at noon, though Hang Seng Credit Card Priority Booking goes live at 11am next Tuesday.

Pricing remains the same as last year, with three-day General Admission tickets at HK$1,990 and single-day General Admission tickets at HK$1,280; three-day U18 tickets are HK$1,590 and single-day U18 tickets are HK$880.

The city’s biggest international music festival sold out last March and December. Organisers say the 14th edition will include ” a spectacular outdoor environment with multiple stages, a mouth-watering array of top-quality F&B outlets, and an eclectic line-up of must-see international, regional and local acts.”

First wave line-up:

Trendsetters

Clockenflap is known for bringing the hottest names in music to Hong Kong, and this year is no different. One-third of Mercury Prize-winning British indie act The xx, trailblazing DJ/producer Jamie xx makes his Clockenflap debut hot on the heels of the release of his highly anticipated third album, ‘In Waves.’ Best-known for their viral megahit ‘Heat Waves’, British psychedelic pop-rockers Glass Animals arrive on the back of their acclaimed fourth album, ‘I Love You So F***ing Much’. Serving up an infectious concoction of electro house and synth-pop, Atlanta DJ/producer Porter Robinson is jetting in to perform a high-energy live set, while genre-bending Los Angeles act Fiji Blue will be on hand to captivate fans with their dreamy fusion of indie pop, electronica, and R&B.

Best of Japan 

Showcasing the breadth and depth of Japan’s electrifying music scene, this year’s lineup features an eclectic collection of the country’s most exciting artists, including magnetic hip-hop duo Creepy Nuts, enigmatic J-Pop vocalist yama, intricate post-rock/math rock masters toe, mesmerising girl group Sakurazaka46 and indie-pop band Cody・Lee (李).

Indie Trailblazers     

From its very first edition, Clockenflap has proudly championed indie artists, and that tradition continues in this year’s lineup. Canadian indie-rockers Mother Mother arrive on the back of their ninth album, ‘Grief Chapter’, while upbeat Japanese-Australian four-piece Last Dinosaurs are touring their fifth album, ‘Kyoryu’. Other indie highlights include LA duo Bubble Tea and Cigarettes, Xi’an post-punk band FAZI, London dance-punk dynamos Fat Dog, Hong Kong post-hardcore act An Id Signal and hypnotic Dutch psychedelic rockers Yīn Yīn.

Regional Highlights 

Bringing the best of the region’s musical talent to Hong Kong, Clockenflap once again welcomes a wide-ranging selection of acts from around Asia. Showcasing Taiwan’s music scene are indie favourites Deca Joins, Kaohsiung rockers Gigantic Roar and the offbeat grooves of Golden English Party. Fans will also get the chance to enjoy the sounds of Thai singer-songwriter Violette Wautier and South Korean guitar princess MEMI.

Electronic Heroes    

Keeping the dancefloor moving all weekend long, Clockenflap presents an eclectic lineup of top electronic acts from around the world. Canadian DJ/producer A-Trak is known for serving up an irresistible blend of electro and hip-hop, and Australia’s Partiboi69‘s anarchic brand of ghetto house is guaranteed to get the party started. Yung Singh brings the sound of the UK new Asian underground, while last but by no means least, the legendry Dave Clarke will demonstrate why he’s known as “The Baron of Techno.” Plus a special DJ and spandex set by ROBOT, where Clockenflap co-founders Jay and Mike will be welcoming Bobby Parsley to celebrate ROBOT’s 25th anniversary.

Other acts confirmed to perform include Hong Kong neo-jazz act R.O.O.T and life-affirming festival favourites Ibrahim Maalouf & the Trumpets of Michel-Ange.
