Those are great numbers for any vehicle, let alone the spacious Sportage. Adult passengers should be comfortable in the second row, and cargo space is above average for this class.
A $30,000 budget gets you into the Sportage LX model. It comes standard with an 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system, a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration.

- 2024 Mazda CX-5
$29,300 | U.S. News Score: 8.5/10
The only model of the 2024 Mazda CX-5 available for under $30,000 is the base 2.5 S Select trim, but it provides a lot of value for the money.
It has a refined interior with synthetic leather upholstery and dual-zone automatic climate control. The 187-horsepower four-cylinder engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The engine feels punchy but does lag a bit on the freeway.
The CX-5's interior feature list includes a 10.25-inch infotainment system managed through a central command dial rather than a touch screen. The system supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The cabin is full of upmarket materials, soft-touch surfaces and finely designed flourishes. It competes with many entry-level luxury vehicles regarding material quality and design.
Additional standard features include stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

- 2024 Kia Soul
$20,190 | U.S. News Score: 8.6/10
It may not look like your standard SUV, but the 2024 Kia Soul claims the top spot in our subcompact SUV rankings and starts at just over $20,000. It has a long list of standard features, a comfortable cabin and impressive cargo capacity. All models fall under $30,000, with the top-of-the-line EX trim starting at $24,490. The base model is basic, though it has an 8-inch Kia UVO infotainment system and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. If you're seeking more advanced safety and driver-assistance technology, you'll want to step up to the S trim.
Every Kia Soul has a 147-horsepower four-cylinder engine paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission. It does the job around town but can feel sluggish on the highway.

Best Cars Under $30,000 for 2022
Our editors picked their favorite cars, trucks, SUVs, and sports cars that start below $30,000.
As car prices continue to climb, it is still possible to find makes and models cheaper than the $39,000 average new-car transaction price. The good news is that even though they are less expensive, they are no less compelling than the more expensive makes and models.
So, we had our editors pick the best cars available today that have an MSRP under $30,000. There's something for just about everybody, including those searching for their next family sedan , midsize pickup truck , or even a sports car . There are plenty of great $30K options available.
(Note: While all of the vehicles listed here have base MSRPs around $30,000, many of them offer fully loaded trim levels that can exceed this price cap. You can also read our list of the best cars under $40,000 in 2020 .)
2022 Subaru Forester
Still boxy and brilliant.
There are many, many great cars available in this price category, as you're about to see. For me, though, I need all-weather performance plus enough room for a couple of big dogs -- criteria that sadly rules out the now sedan-only WRX . I also need something that can tow a small trailer, carry a few kayaks on a roof rack and with enough active safety systems to make my life easier when cruising down the highway to the airport at 4 a.m. The best choice for me in this budget? It's the Subaru Forester.
It's not the sportiest car ever, but in Sport trim it at least looks the part. 182 horsepower from the 2.5-liter flat-four engine is just enough oomph to keep things interesting, while the CVT is... well, it's unobtrusive, at least. Pricing on the Forester begins at $27,070. That's very good value.

2022 Honda Accord
A can't-go-wrong midsize sedan.
With consumers rushing to buy everything shaped like an SUV, people seem to have forgotten about what a wonderful and competent car the Honda Accord is. That's a small crime in my book, especially as this 10th-generation model (new for 2018) is such a sweetheart. It bundles typically Honda-thoughtful design and engaging drive dynamics with a newfound dollop of refinement and quietness.
Priced from $27,615 with delivery charges, even the base LX model with the 1.5-liter turbo engine and CVT is a winner, but if you've got some more coin to spend, the $30,075 Sport 1.5L Turbo is an entertaining-yet-capacious offering. The top-flight Touring model costs $39,545 before options, but it looks and feels like something wearing an Acura badge.
There's loads of tech available in the Accord, including a head-up display, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a laundry list of advanced driver aids. There's even a pretty darn good Hybrid model. I only wish the Accord offered optional all-wheel drive, which could help woo more customers away from crossovers and into this sleek sedan.

2021 Honda Accord sticks to the sedan formula
2022 Ford Ranger
Right-sized pickup truck.
Ford brought back the Ranger midsize pickup for 2019, and it's one of our favorite trucks in the class. For most people, a pickup this size offers plenty of capability, and its less-imposing dimensions than something like a Ford F-150 make it easier to drive and live with on the daily.
The Ranger is powered by a 2.3-liter, turbocharged I4 engine, with a healthy 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission handles shifting duties, and a choice of two- or four-wheel drive is available. When it comes time to do truck stuff, the Ranger is one of the best choices in the segment, able to tow up to 7,500 pounds, and haul 1,860 pounds of payload in its bed.
Sure, the cabin looks a little outdated, but it's a nice place in which to spend time. The seats are comfortable, the Sync 3 infotainment tech is super-easy to use and offers a rich feature set. Overall, the Ranger just feels like a right-sized truck -- and at the right time, too.

2022 Mazda CX-5
A small suv that punches above its weight.
It's not hard to find an affordable compact crossover for sale. It is tougher, however, to find one that feels like it could be priced $10,000 higher than it actually is. The Mazda CX-5 , by dint of its styling, interior treatment and energetic driving dynamics, performs above its price tag.
The CX-5 has the ride quality and interior quietness to match up with competing crossovers. It's fuel efficient, easy to drive and plenty spacious for families and their belongings. Mazda also offers all the safety tech you could want, as well as an infotainment system capable of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
Most of all, the Mazda CX-5 feels special, whether you opt for the base Sport trim level (from $27,475 with destination) to the $40,225 Signature model, which packs a gutsy turbo engine. In a class of crossovers you buy out of necessity, the CX-5 is the one entry you buy out of desire.

2022 Hyundai Veloster N
A sport compact performance bargain.
I'm a sucker for performance bargains and the Hyundai Veloster N is certainly one, considering its $33,595 base price gets you a punchy turbocharged engine, adaptive dampers, big brakes and rad looks.
The N's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder brings 275 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque to the party. That bolts up to a slick-shifting six-speed manual transmission with automatic rev-matching. The variable suspension offers three settings including Normal for compliant street driving and Sport Plus when you feel like attacking corners.

2022 Jeep Wrangler
For anyone looking to go out into the wild.
If you want to get out to the wilds of nature, nothing gets you there like a Jeep . The Wrangler was totally redesigned for 2018 and remains one of the best off-roading SUV you can buy.
Sure, in order to get a Wrangler for $30,000 some concessions to comfort must be made, but you still get the steady 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine good for 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Also included are a two-speed transfer case and a six-speed manual transmission. Plus, you can take off the top and the doors for open-air road trips.
A base Wrangler is a great choice for those who might only occasionally need four-wheel drive. If you're looking to customize your Wrangler, the base model is a great place to start, too. Why buy a Rubicon if you're just going to load it up with aftermarket axles and differential lockers? A two-door Sport starts at $29,995, plus $1,595 destination.

2021 Jeep Wrangler takes off-roading to the Xtreme
2022 Mazda3
A compact entry that rises above.
The 2022 Mazda3 elevates the game, not just for the compact sedan/hatchback segment, but also for the industry as a whole. The front-wheel drive version is fantastic, from the way it drives, to the way it looks inside and out. The addition of all-wheel drive, however, adds some sweet icing to an already-delicious cake.
Power comes from a 2.5-liter four cylinder engine producing 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque sent through a six-speed automatic transmission and on to all four wheels. While not a performance car, that's plenty of power for playing through the twisties, while the terrific AWD reads the driver's inputs and readily apportions power across all four corners.
The little all-weather Mazda is pretty efficient, too. The sedan returns an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and 33 mpg highway. The hatchback returns slightly lower figures, rated at 24/32 city/highway mpg. The all-wheel drive sedan starts at $27,515 (plus $1,015 for destination), while a loaded AWD hatch starts at $28,515. That puts the Mazda3 on the more expensive side of its competition, but with how well it punches above its weight, the extra money spent is well worth it.

2022 Volkswagen Jetta GLI
Performance and practicality.
The Jetta is better than it's been in years thanks to a recent platform switch that gives it access to much of VW's latest and greatest tech. It's not the last word in excitement in its base trim levels but when you make the jump up to the GLI , that all changes.
The fully loaded Jetta GLI Autobahn trim offers VW's Digital Cockpit, which is a bit of tech unheard of at the $30,000 level. Digital Cockpit isn't quite as slick as the Virtual Cockpit found in Audi's cars, but it's still so much better than what everybody else has to offer at this price point. The rest of the stuff we liked about the standard Jetta still holds true for the GLI, like the premium-feeling materials and the solid build quality.
The Jetta GLI is a riot on a back road, a willing track day participant and a faithful freeway cruising companion. It's a car for any and all situations and you'd be hard-pressed to find something that offers so much for so little while asking for so few compromises.
-- Kyle Hyatt

2022 Mazda MX-5
Miata is always the answer.
Many of the vehicles on this list are bastions of sensibility, but there's still a number of us who want something fun that doesn't break the bank.
With 181 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque on tap from its 2.0-liter I4, the 2022 MX-5 Miata is more powerful than it used to be, and that little bump makes it much more palatable for daily driving and highway overtakes.
In addition to its newfound power, it remains one of the most accessibly fun vehicles on sale today. It has the right amount of body roll, making every turn just a little more fun than it should be.

The Hatchback: 2024 Honda Civic Hatch
The latest Civic Hatchback keeps its enjoyable driving dynamics intact despite being a more grown-up car than any Civic before it. In base form, its 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder produces an ample 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque, while a turbocharged 1.5-liter ups the stakes to 180 hp and 177 lb-ft. Plus, if you're still of the old-school persuasion and like to be in control of the experience, you can get a six-speed manual gearbox in the Sport and Sport Touring trims - or a CVT if you prefer to relax.
With combined EPA ratings of up to 35 mpg in turbo guise and 33 mpg in base form, the Civic is light on gas, and starting at an MSRP of $24,950, it's light on your bank account from the get-go.
Combine its mechanical attributes with a spacious cabin and large trunk (24.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats), and it's a winner already. Factor in a full suite of connectivity options like a seven-inch touchscreen and matching digital gauge cluster (nine- and 10.2 inches respectively on the Sport Touring), and you have one of the most complete long-distance vehicles on the market and a perfect family road trip car.
The Crossover: 2024 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid
This fuel-efficient road trip car boasts a hybrid system, achieving an impressive 38 mpg combined EPA rating. The hybrid powertrain comprises a 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder with electric augmentation, paired to a six-speed automatic gearbox, producing 226 hp and 258 lb-ft.
Whether traveling with a full crew or just a few, the standard all-wheel drive ensures surefootedness over any surface and in any climate through sun, snow, and rain.
Ideal for family road trips, it boasts a comfortable and spacious interior equipped with rear USB ports and a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Five seats with ample rear legroom enhance the appeal of this compact crossover, and its generous 38.7-cu-ft trunk accommodates all your gear. You can use all five seats, or drop the 60:40-split rear seats to carry larger items. Starting at $32,325, the Tucson Hybrid ticks all the right boxes .
The Sports Car: 2024 Mustang GT Coupe
While there may be many options in contention for the title of the best sports car , we maintain when it comes to road trips, the Mustang has them all soundly beaten. A new generation has arrived for 2024, sporting updated styling and a new fighter jet-inspired interior with larger infotainment and digital gauge cluster screens.
Under the hood, the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 has been upgraded and now produces 36 hp more in the 2024 Mustang GT than the old model, totaling 486 hp. It comes with a six-speed manual transmission or an optional 10-speed auto, which may be better suited to long-distance cruising.
Should the road get twisty on your journey, the Mustang GT's combination of power, noise, and agility means an entertaining road trip is in the cards, and the supportive Recaro front seats hold you in place comfortably. Ample rear legroom - yes, it's a four-seater sports car - and a 13.5 cubic foot trunk make it practical too, and since you can get it as a coupe or a convertible, it's perfect for summer road trips.
The Wagon: 2024 Volvo V60 Cross Country
The Volvo V60 Cross Country excels in various aspects such as space, speed, off-road capability, etc. This versatile vehicle is a gem for road trips and an overall top-tier option. Sporting 26 mpg combined from a 250-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, its raised ground clearance and AWD give it the ability to tackle dirt roads without the hefty fuel economy of traditional SUVs.
It comes fully equipped with advanced safety features, including a rear cross-traffic alert system and traffic sign recognition, plus semi-autonomous highway driving capabilities. A five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA backs this up and ensures a safe road trip for the whole family.
It boasts an available Wi-Fi hotspot, enhancing connectivity on your journeys and keeping the kids occupied, and its spacious interior means they'll be comfortable for hours. 22.5 cubic feet of trunk space will accommodate suitcases, tents, and more; if you need extra, the fold-down rear seats let you accommodate even more. Additionally, you can add a roof-mounted bicycle rack, perfect for those with an active lifestyle, making it one of the best cars for road-tripping.
The Minivan: 2023 Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid
The $51,095 Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid harmoniously blends gas and electric power, catering to road trips with its ample combination of cargo space, people space, and frugality. Furnished with a 3.6-liter V6 augmented by electric power, it produces 260 hp. It lays down this power through a front-wheel drivetrain. If you want AWD, you can have it, but that would require the non-hybrid Pacifica.
Spacious with seating for eight occupants, it looks after the family with advanced safety features like emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane assist, and blind spot monitoring. There's versatility aplenty with Stow 'n Go seating that avails additional cargo space without physically having to remove seats from the minivan, and between 32.3 and 140.5 cubic feet.
A heated steering wheel and three-zome climate control add extra luxury, and the new Pinnacle model adds even more luxury to the road trip experience. The panoramic rearview mirror helps to keep an eye on the kids during the, 'Are we there yet' arguments.
The Truck: 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor
Should road trips in 2023 call for a more 'cross-country' experience, the Ford F-150 Raptor is the only pickup truck for the job. While the allure is strong to go for the TRX-beating Raptor R and its supercharged V8, for road trips, we think the base Raptor is better, thanks to its twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6. Not only do you get 450 hp and 510 lb-ft sent to all corners via a 10-speed automatic gearbox, but you get 15 mpg combined (instead of the R's 12 mpg). You can still tow 8,200 lbs, get a versatile truck bed, and those sweet Fox shocks that can take you to hell and back.
Inside, all F-150 models come with standard features like a 12-inch digital gauge display and Sync 4-enabled infotainment system, soft bucket seats, wireless charging, and 400W USB ports with outlets in both the cab and the bed. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. With five seats, ample power, and go-anywhere capability, the F-150 Raptor is a road-trip truck with no equal.
The Full-Size SUV: 2023 Cadillac Escalade
If you need three rows of seats, a body-on-frame chassis, an abundance of passenger and storage space, and supreme luxury, the Cadillac Escalade may be the best road trip SUV there is, even if it does cost a slip more than $80,000.
With a versatile engine lineup including a Duramax diesel six-cylinder (277 hp/460 lb-ft) and a 6.2-liter V8 (420 hp/460 lb-ft), both saddled with a buttery-smooth 10-speed automatic, the Escalade can tow up to 8,200 lbs, meaning you can take everything with you on holiday. The spacious cabin accommodates a ton of cargo, and an available long-wheelbase ESV variant even makes the third row of seating adult-friendly.
The Escalade is loaded with exceptional tech such as the 38-inch diagonal OLED display encompassing instrumentation and infotainment, and a full-color head-up display. Super Cruise hands-free driving making long-distance trips on the highway a cinch, too.
The Grand Tourer: 2024 Lexus LC Hybrid
We've chosen the LC Hybrid for this list, but we wouldn't fault you for picking any of the LC models. The standard variant packs a sonorous naturally aspirated V8 (coupe and convertible), but for covering distance, the LC 500h's 3.5-liter V6 and twin electric motors still packs a 354-hp punch while consuming considerably less fuel at 29 mpg combined vs. the V8's 19 mpg. It looks achingly gorgeous, too. The downside is an electronic CVT, but with the additional torque of the e-motors, and given the laidback cruising nature of the LC, it's a forgivable offense.
Road trip cars typically need big trunks, and the LC falls short here with only 4.7 cubic feet in hybrid form, but with 2+2 seating in which the rear seats aren't suited for passengers, there's plenty of additional storage space in the cabin.
Packed with Lexus' array of safety systems, and now featuring a decent infotainment system , the car is technologically up-to-date and safe for you and a loved one to hit the road and soak up the miles in comfort and luxury.
The Luxury Sedan: 2024 Audi S8
The 2024 Audi S8 redefines the road trip experience with its blend of luxury and performance. Beneath its hood lies a formidable 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, delivering 563 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. While everyone knows the Mercedes-AMG S63 in this segment, the Audi S8 is seen as more of a sleeper, an understated performance sedan that can lap up the miles without shouting about its 3.8-second 0-60 mph potential. Combined with the nimbleness of its rear-axle steering and the surefootedness of its all-wheel drive, it's the perfect car for almost any occasion.
Whether you're seated up front or reclining in the massaging rear seats, you're swathed in luxury and cutting-edge technology. Plush leather seats provide a sense of opulence, while the MMI Touch Response infotainment system and onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, ensure seamless connectivity and entertainment throughout your road trips, while an optional rear-seat entertainment system keeps passengers engaged on extended journeys.
The only downside is the $120,600 price tag.
The Convertible: 2023 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet
The Porsche Carrera GTS Cabriolet redefines the essence of road trips with its breadth of performance and capability. It's fast, it's comfortable, it's feature-laden, and it even has four seats - what more could you ask for? Beneath its curvaceous exterior lies a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, delivering 473 hp and 420 lb-ft, and with your choice of rear- or all-wheel drive, you get a 0-60 mph time of under 3.4 seconds and all-weather confidence.
Inside, the Carrera GTS Cabriolet pampers occupants with opulent leather seats and a cutting-edge infotainment system, including the Porsche Communication Management system. For audiophiles, the optional Burmester sound system promises exceptional audio quality, enhancing the soundtrack of your road trip.
With a front cargo area measuring 4.7 cubic feet and rear seats that can double as storage in a pinch, there's plenty of space for your luggage. Then, when the weather is right, a 12-second drop of the top lets you feel the wind in your hair and the sun on your skin. When the journey matters more than the destination, few cars do road trips like the 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet.

The best cars under $30K for 2024
Affordable cars for everyone: sedans, hatchbacks, suvs, a truck, sports cars, hybrids and an ev.
Cars today have gotten expensive. The number of ones under $25,000 has been shrinking quickly. But stretching the budget a little bit to $30,000 can significantly expand your options. And fortunately, there are some rather excellent choices to pick from. They range from cars to SUVs and even, remarkably, a couple of trucks.
The variety really is impressive. In addition to an array of body styles, this list includes both really efficient hybrids and even some sporty and fun options. All-wheel drive is on the table, too. And since the last time we updated this list, we've seen additional models from the U.S. join the list, which is a welcome change of pace.
There are limits in some cases. Some of these options only slide in with the most basic trim levels and options, but that doesn't mean they're not worth checking out. But that's enough preamble, let's get to the list.
2024 Buick Envista
Base price: $23,995, why it stands out: great styling; very refined; punchy engine; affordable at all trim levels could be better: no awd option; fastback shape limits cargo space, read our buick envista review.
The Envista might be the first Buick in some time that really would have people asking the question from the brand's ads, "That's a Buick?" Not only is it a great looking Buick, it's one of the best crossover "coupes" (or more appropriately, a fastback) we've seen, with low, sleek lines and a wide stance. Besides the great exterior styling, the interior features large, bright screens for instruments and infotainment, and it's all very easy to use. It has a spunky turbo engine that feels more potent than the numbers would suggest. The automatic transmission is smooth and quick enough for what it is. And every trim is available for less than $30,000. We just wish all-wheel-drive was an option.
2024 Chevy Trax
Base price: $21,495, why it stands out: great styling; very refined; punchy engine; affordable at all trim levels could be better: no awd option, read our chevy trax review.
The Envista's close cousin, the Chevy Trax , has pretty much exactly the Envista's positive traits. It's not quite as striking as the sleek Buick fastback, but that's damning with faint praise, as the Trax still looks great, and much more traditionally crossover-y. Plus it's conventional hatchback gives it a slight edge in cargo space and practicality. The interior is also arguably more successful design wise, with a dash design that features more interesting designs and has less blank space between screens. And while the numbers aren't huge, the Trax is sprightly, composed and refined for such a small crossover. And just like the Envista, every single variant is available for less than $30,000. Again, though, a lack of all-wheel drive, even as an option, is a bit disappointing.
2024 Ford Maverick
Base price: $26,055, why it stands out: it's a pickup; it's cheaper than all other pickups; distinctive interior design; exceptional hybrid fuel economy; strong turbo power could be better: some cheap interior materials, read our ford maverick review.
Meet the first of two trucks on this list, the Ford Maverick . It's not quite as cheap as it once was, but you can still get every powertrain combination from front-drive hybrid to all-wheel-drive turbo for under $30,000. The hybrid delivers a still impressive 37 mpg combined, and the turbo model has a hot-hatch-rivaling (or at least warm hatch) 250 horsepower. Yes, it has crossover architecture and therefore can't lug that stump out of grandma's front yard or tow a small house. Its interior also feels a bit cheap, but makes up for it with fun colors and textures, plus it's pretty roomy. It all makes for one of the best values on this list and in the broader car market.
2024 Honda Accord
Base price: $28,990, why it stands out: class-leading back seat and trunk space; class-leading ride and handling could be better: hybrid unavailable under $30,000; only base trim available under $30,000, read our honda accord review.
The Accord is our top choice among midsize family sedans. It stands out thanks to superior handling and a well-balanced ride, a well-made cabin, unmatched back seat and trunk space, and an extra-efficient powertrain lineup. Unfortunately, the phenomenal hybrid is no longer available for under $30,000. The only option available at this price point is the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder in the base LX trim. But it's still quiet, comfortable, spacious and even handles pretty well. That being said, you can get more feature content by going one rung down the ladder with the still-big Civic, and the Civic also offers the practicality of an optional hatchback. It also means the Accords in question won't be as fancy as those pictured above, which are top-of-the-line Touring trim level cars.
2024 Honda Civic
Base price: $25,045, why it stands out: attractive and well-made cabin; sharp driving manners; excellent engines; ample space; sedan and hatchback body styles could be better: road and wind noise is a little on the loud side, si just tops the $30,000 mark, read our honda civic review.
The Civic was completely redesigned for 2022, taking everything that worked so well for its revolutionary predecessor (ample interior space, sharp driving dynamics, efficient engines) and amplifying with a more grown-up appearance, a slick new cabin, superior technology and general refinements everywhere you look. The Civic is just a terrific car. That's the case when we were talking about it for under $25,000, and it gets even better at this price point as it opens the door to the exceptional 1.5-liter turbocharged engine offered by the upper trims. Sadly the Si now breaks the budget, but the regular ones are no slouch, and you can still get the hatchback with a manual transmission for under $30,000.
2024 Hyundai Elantra
Base price: $22,775, why it stands out: comfortable; spacious; available hybrid and sportier turbo models could be better: hot n model breaks the price cap; regular model isn't particularly engaging, read our hyundai elantra review.
The Hyundai Elantra , in its basic form, isn't especially exciting, at least beyond its chiseled looks. But it is impressively spacious and comfortable, plus it's quite affordable and well-equipped. Every purely internal-combustion model can be had for our price cap, except for the extra-hot N model. And while the N isn't available, the turbocharged N-Line is. And with around 200 horsepower, the N-Line is a perky sedan in its own right. Though arguably the Elantra to get is the hybrid, which has literal Prius-rivalling fuel economy. The base model is the only one that comes in under $30,000 (the Limited is just a tad more), but it has the best fuel economy at 54 mpg combined.
2024 Hyundai Kona
Base price: $25,625, why it stands out: groovy styling; spacious interior; available awd; good ride and handling; great infotainment could be better: turbo and ev options are above $30,000; base engine is a little sluggish, read our hyundai kona review.
Joining the long list of little crossover SUVs on this list the Hyundai Kona . It's been redesigned and improved in many ways. The styling is still unique and bold, but the interior is far more spacious than before. In fact, it has cargo space among the largest in its class. While a bit softer than before, it still has responsive handling, it just happens to have a little more comfy ride. The base engine is all you'll be able to afford for our price cap, and with less than 150 horsepower on tap, it's still a little pokey. But all-wheel drive is still available under budget, and it brings with it multi-link rear suspension.
2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz
Base price: $28,745, why it stands out: stylish; great handling; open-bed practicality could be better: turbo and awd models top $30,000; small bed; small backseat; a bit thirsty, read our hyundai santa cruz review.
The only other truck on this list comes from Hyundai. Hyundai doesn't necessarily call it a truck, but it has an open bed, so we're calling it a truck. The swoopy, curvy styling is really striking and fun, and it's a surprisingly nimble and playful handling vehicle. It's just a shame that neither the turbo powertrain, nor all-wheel drive are available under $30,000, particularly as the turbo engine is very fun. And while the bed is useful, it's still rather small, as is the back seat. Fuel economy is a bit disappointing on the base naturally aspirated engine, too.
2024 Hyundai Sonata
Base price: $28,650, why it stands out: distinctive style inside and out; exceptional infotainment and safety technology; abundant space; available hybrid could be better: not as sharp to drive as accord and others in the segment; only base trim and engine for under $30,000, read our hyundai sonata review.
The Sonata's bold design was recently updated, and it's still quite bold and probably for everyone. But we say that's better than past midsize family sedans that were deadly dull in order to appeal (or not offend) the largest group of people as possible. Fortune favors the bold, and indeed, Hyundai's boldly styled midsize sedan has all the ingredients to be a success: its infotainment and safety technology are best in class, its back seat and trunk space are basically second to only the Accord. Though like the Accord, only the base SEL trim and its naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder with front-wheel drive squeaks under our $30,000 bar. Still, it's another comfy, roomy option with loads of style for not a huge amount of money.
- 2024 Hyundai Tucson
Base price: $28,875
Why it stands out: spacious; classy interior; good infotainment could be better: hybrid and awd don't fit under budget; unexceptional base powertrain, read our hyundai tucson review.
There are only a few crossover SUVs of the typical compact variety on this list, as many have become too expensive. Fortunately the Tucson is not only affordable enough, but a solid choice regardless of price. It has a very elegant interior that looks a step above a mainstream vehicle, and its one that's enormous inside. It's also fairly comfortable. It's just a shame that you can't get all-wheel drive or one of the excellent hybrid powertrains for less than $30,000, especially as the standard engine is just adequate at best.
2024 Jeep Compass
Base price: $27,495, why it stands out: powerful turbo engine; stylish interior; standard all-wheel drive; great infotainment could be better: a bit small inside, read our jeep compass review.
Despite being a broadly rather old crossover, the Compass has seen some huge improvements over the last couple years that make it worthy of inclusion on this list. Firstly, they all now come with a newer turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 200 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. That makes it one of the more potent options in the segment, plus it's vastly smoother and quieter than its predecessors. Its 8-speed automatic works surprisingly well, too. The interior was significantly revamped, too, and even the base one gets some unique and cheerful fabric accents on the dash and a better infotainment screen. And this year, the base price dropped enough that you can get one for under $30,000. The main downside is that it's a bit tight inside, particularly considering that it's among some of the larger options when it comes to the outside.
2024 Kia K5
Base price: $28,145, why it stands out: styling with flair; refined driving experience; could be better: turbo and awd options not available under budget; looks like a hatchback, but isn't a hatchback, read our kia k5 review.
All the praise we have for the Hyundai Sonata applies to the Kia K5 , too. Why? Because it's pretty much the same machine in a different wrapper. Arguably it's a more attractive wrapper, but that's subjective of course. We do wish it actually had a hatchback like its long roofline suggests. Regardless of what design you prefer, you'll get a comfy, roomy and refined sedan, albeit not necessarily an exciting one. At least, it won't be exciting without the turbo engine, which falls beyond our price range for this piece. Surprisingly, you can get the turbo model's looks for this price, as the GT-Line still comes in under $30,000.
2024 Kia Niro
Base price: $28,135, why it stands out: lower price than other hybrid suvs; obviously better fuel economy than similarly size suvs; user-friendly tech; striking styling could be better: awd is not available; it's a smaller suv and therefore it has less space, read our kia niro review.
The Niro is different than the other compact SUVs ( Honda CR-V , Toyota RAV4, etc) because it's smaller and cheaper. There are pros and cons to its unique positioning. A price tag that starts a couple thousand dollars less than other compacts is the most significant pro. It also comes standard as a hybrid, and with fuel economy between 49 and 53 mpg combined, it's more a competitor to the Prius than other hybrid crossovers. In between pro and con is the styling. The somewhat recently redesigned Niro has extremely bold styling, particularly the available contrast side blades. It's a pro if you're into that, and very much a con if not. The downside is that although it's still reasonably spacious, there's no denying how much passenger and cargo room the Niro gives up to the far more family-friendly options including its Kia siblings, the Seltos and Sportage. It's not especially quick in hybrid guise either. But with distinct styling, amazing fuel economy and a reasonable price, the Niro is very much worth a look. It's just unfortunate that the plug-in hybrid and EV models top the budget threshold.
2024 Kia Seltos
Base price: $25,865, why it stands out: surprising space; user-friendly tech; distinct design details; available all-wheel drive could be better: some cheap interior bits; turbo breaks $30,000, read our kia seltos review.
Like most choices on this list, the surprisingly good Seltos proves you don't have to spend a lot of money for both function and fashion. Its price and exterior dimensions fall in between the subcompact and compact SUV segments (we call it the midcompact segment ), yet it boasts more interior volume than is expected and an abundance of special design details throughout that successfully counter some of the cheaper bits applied to keep the price down. Basically, it provides even more value beyond Kia's usual extra-long features list and warranty. Like the Mazda CX-30 and VW Taos, we'd actually consider the Seltos before many of the compact SUVs that didn't make the cut on this list or that of our best small SUV list . The turbocharged model breaks the bank now, which is unfortunate as it's a nice powertrain. But you can still get all-wheel drive for this budget, and even the well-equipped EX trim is available in the $30,000 price range.
2024 Kia Sportage
Base price: $28,565, why it stands out: spacious; extremely comfortable; cool interior could be better: base trim only for this price; base engine a bit sluggish, read our kia sportage review.
Similar in some ways to the aforementioned Hyundai Tucson , the Kia Sportage is one of the few traditional compact SUVs that you can get for our budget. And one of the most impressive things is how enormous it is inside. The version we get in the U.S. is actually the longer version in other markets. As such this may be the most practical option on the list. The interior is also rather stylish, and the Sportage generally is extremely comfortable and quiet. Unfortunately, only the base trim is available at this price point, and without all-wheel drive. It gets a rather sluggish 187-horsepower engine, and quite basic infotainment and trimmings. But if you need as much comfort and space for the money, the Sportage is a great way to go.
2024 Mazda3
Base price: $25,355, why it stands out: high-quality and high-fashion interior; beautiful styling; fun to drive; two body styles; available all-wheel drive could be better: back seat space; hatchback rear visibility; some may not like lack of a touchscreen, read our mazda 3 review.
For less than $30,000, you can get a car that could easily pass as a Mercedes, BMW or Lexus competitor. Seriously. Even at this price point, the Mazda3 interior could make a play at the entry-level luxury segment with its handsome minimalist design, high-quality switchgear and convincing faux leather that covers the seats, dash and doors (and doesn't it all look great in red?). Driving the Mazda3 offers a similar high-end experience, as its responses to driver inputs through the steering, throttle and transmission are so exceptional that we once again must roll out the descriptor of "budget Porsche" when referring to driving a Mazda. It really is that good. We're also quite fond of the two body styles: the stylish sedan that boasts a surprisingly large trunk (it can actually hold more than the mechanically related CX-30 SUV) and the Mazda3 Hatchback that really turns up the style dial, albeit at the expense of rear visibility. This is a great car, regardless of price. The only downside, besides a cramped rear seat, is that the manual hatch, and all the turbo variants are more than $30,000. But the standard 186-horsepower four-cylinder is still plenty potent and not hampered too much by the six-speed automatic. Plus, all-wheel-drive is available under our price limit.
2024 Mazda CX-30
Base price: $26,415, why it stands out: luxurious interior; best-in-class driving dynamics; standard all-wheel drive could be better: interior space is more hatchback than suv; those plastic fender flares have to go, read our mazda cx-30 review.
Like the Seltos, the CX-30 is a midcompact SUV. It also similarly punches well above its weight class, in this case in regards to driving fun and luxury. If you can live without the muscular turbo engine only available over $30,000, the CX-30 seriously makes for a compelling alternative to a BMW X2 or Audi Q3 . You get the same sort of "budget Porsche" driving experience you'd get with the mechanically related Mazda3, and its captivating modern interior design is accented in distinctive blue or brown faux-leather trim, and constructed of high-quality materials. We especially like the sporty steering wheel, and the buttons and knobs that solidly click like a luxury car's. This is a seriously nice SUV, even for less than $30,000. And it gets all-wheel drive as standard.
2024 Nissan Leaf
Base price: $29,280, why it stands out: well-executed driver assistance features; low price with base battery; standard dc fast charging could be better: dull to drive; only 150-mile model available for price; chademo limits fast charging options, read our nissan leaf review.
Given the move toward electric cars, we felt it important to include pretty much the only remaining option for less than $30,000: the Nissan Leaf . The Chevy Bolt EV has since been discontinued, and the Mini Cooper SE is just a little over the limit and not eligible for tax incentives. And the Leaf is a bit of a mixed bag. On the plus side, it's roomy and practical with four doors and a hatchback. It's comfortable, though not quick, and it has a user-friendly interior. Only the base model with 150 miles of range is available for under $30,000. It does have a 50-kW DC fast-charge port, but it's the ChaDeMo design that isn't as widely available as CCS and NACS ports. Nissan does have a long-range Leaf Plus with more than 200 miles of range, but even with tax incentives, it can't reach our price cap. But with $3,750 of credit available, you can get your new Leaf for just over $25,000.
2024 Subaru Crosstrek
Base price: $26,540, why it stands out: best-in-class ground clearance; standard all-wheel drive; cargo space and functional roof rails could be better: slow base engine; cvt transmission; roly-poly handling; optional engine not available for price, read our subaru crosstrek review.
The Crosstrek is a bit of an oddball, which is probably a big reason why it's so appealing and successful. It's basically just an Impreza hatchback with some styling tweaks and a massive lift (its 8.7 inches of ground clearance is way more than most crossovers), but that's actually good enough to better many vehicles that were built from scratch to be a small SUV. Besides that ground clearance, the Crosstrek has become a darling of the outdoor adventure set for its manageable size, easy-to-use interior, sturdy and easily reached roof rails and a comfort-oriented driving experience that serves it well on longer drives. The biggest complaint is that the standard 2.0-liter engine is pokey, and the CVT doesn't help it on the refinement front. Unfortunately, the more powerful 2.5-liter engine is just a bit more expensive than our $30,000 limit.
2024 Toyota Prius
Base price: $29,045, why it stands out: incredible looks; incredible fuel economy; finally fun to drive could be better: noisy engine; styling restricts interior space; awd and phev above price cap, read our toyota prius review.
After decades of being slow, noisy and weird-looking, the Toyota Prius has undergone a radical transformation. Now it sports a wild, wedge-like shape more associated with supercars than economy cars. It also finally has good power at nearly 200 horsepower. And it's even pretty fun to drive. If it weren't for the fact that it still delivers its signature high fuel economy (up to 57 mpg combined in the base trim), we'd say it should be called something else entirely. It's not perfect, though. The gas engine can still be noisy and rough sounding when demanding full throttle. And the sleek body does hurt head room and cargo space. But those are small trade-offs for an otherwise seriously impressive package.
2024 Toyota Camry
Base price: $29,495, why it stands out: amazing fuel economy from standard, improved hybrid system; improved infotainment could be better: available awd and sportier se trims exceed $30,000 , read our toyota camry review.
Even as it was getting old, the Toyota Camry remained an excellent family sedan choice. Then Toyota gave that generation a big overhaul, and while it did away with the enthusiast favorite V6, it brought about a more powerful, more refined hybrid powertrain for every trim level. And that's good for the whole of the Camry line, even if we miss that big six-cylinder. The fuel economy is amazing, with 51 mpg combined on the base trim that fits our budget. It's quieter and smoother going between electric and gas modes now, and it has more power than the old hybrid. It also retains the old model's stiff and playful chassis. We only wish that the even sportier SE and XSE trims could be had as cheaply as the LE, and the same for the all-wheel-drive option.
2024 VW Jetta and GLI
Base price: $22,660, why it stands out: spacious; affordable; refined; available manual; loads of fun in gli trim could be better: bland styling, read our vw jetta review.
One of the car lines with the lowest base price here, also turns out to be one of the best all around. The Jetta in its basic form is one of the more spacious small sedans you can get, and it offers impressive comfort and quiet for the segment. Its base turbo engine punches above its rating, and can even be mated to a manual transmission. The automatic option isn't bad either. Perhaps more impressive, though, is the fact that you can get the hot GLI for just under the $30,000 price cap. For that you get, effectively, a GTI with a trunk, even down to the 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque and mechanical limited-slip differential. And it's a GTI that you can still get with a manual transmission. It's possibly the best performance deal on the market right now. If we had any complaints about the Jetta line, it's mainly that it's a bit dull looking.
2024 VW Taos
Base price: $25,420, why it stands out: segment-leading back seat space; huge cargo area; strong power and fuel economy; available awd could be better: pretty bland to drive; looks more rugged than it is, read our volkswagen taos review.
The Taos is the most family friendly of the midcompact SUVs thanks to a back seat that's shockingly big enough to fit rear-facing car seats without scrunching those up front into the dash. There's also a giant cargo area that only falls short of the pricier Bronco Sport, which is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, the Taos has more interior space than quite a few compact SUVs that are larger on the outside. When you can get that while enjoying the benefits of a smaller vehicle (better maneuverability and fuel economy, a lower price), that's called a win-win. We also like that the Taos isn't as conservatively styled, inside and out, than other recent made-for-America Volkswagens (Atlas, Passat, Jetta) and has VW's older, more user-friendly interior controls than the maddening ID.4 and GTI. Even its "could be betters" listed above are hardly what we'd call deal breakers. This is a winner.

Best New Cars and SUVs for Under $30,000
These top performers cost less than the average new car
It feels like forever, but after three years, automakers and their dealers have finally returned to “normal” levels of inventories. According to Cox Automotive, the average car dealership had a 68-day supply of vehicles at the start of August, which is higher than they usually like to have. That means you have a very good chance of going to a car dealer and driving home that day in a car, minivan, SUV, or truck of your choice. But that doesn’t mean they’re all affordable models because automakers continue to build more expensive (i.e., profitable) vehicles at the expense of cheaper ones. Still, while prices remain stubbornly high, the average price of a new vehicle was $47,307 at the end of July 2024 , according to Cox.

But there are many excellent vehicles that sell for far less than that. To assist bargain hunters, we’ve assembled a list of the best new cars and SUVs under $30,000 based on their Overall Score, factoring in road-test performance, owner satisfaction , predicted reliability , and safety .
All come with standard automatic emergency braking (AEB). In addition, AEB that works at highway speeds, blind spot warning (BSW), and rear cross traffic warning (RCTW) are standard unless noted. If they are optional or only on specific trims, they don’t push the price above $30,000 before adding in the destination charge, taxes, and fees. That’s why a few models, such as the Honda Accord Hybrid and most compact SUVs, aren’t on this list. Others, such as the Kia K5 and Toyota Camry , are redesigned for 2025 and have not been tested yet.
Some of these models have our Green Choice designation, which highlights the vehicles with the cleanest emissions.
All of the vehicles below have met the stringent performance, reliability, and safety requirements necessary to earn CR’s recommendation. The best in the class is highlighted with a photo and profile , with the other top performers listed in alphabetical order.

If you have thousands in debt and you’re barely making it paycheck to paycheck, you know how suffocating it is. Debt is always on your mind. It controls your life. And even if you make on-time payments, they’re so expensive that you have nothing left over.
A personal loan could help you get out of this situation and lift your monthly debt burden significantly. You could finally pay off all of your debt at once, get rid of the sky-high interest rates, and slash your debt load to one manageable monthly payment.
AmONE is a marketplace where you can find some of the best personal loans available. They match you with loans up to $50,000 with rates as low as 2.49%. That’s better than most credit cards. And easier than draining your bank account every month. Seeing what you qualify for doesn’t affect your credit score, and if you’re approved, you could get money the next day.

The Best New Cars You Can Buy for Less Than $30,000
It’s not as easy to find an affordable new ride as it used to be … but some of the ones you can find are better than ever.
By Will Sabel Courtney and Tyler Duffy
Let’s face it, cars have never been cheap; for most of us in the U.S., they’re the second-most expensive item we purchase, after a home. Even by the standards of the personal transportation market, though, these days feel painful. The average new car price these days hovers around $48,000 — at a time when the median pre-tax household income is about $75,000 .
That doesn’t mean the demand for affordable new vehicles isn’t out there, however. If anything, that demand is growing. A recent Cars.com analysis found that nearly half of car shoppers plan on spending less than $30,000 on their next vehicle purchase … even though only 12 percent of new cars qualify as that low in price.
This, however, is a place where we at Gear Patrol can offer a dash of guidance. As journalists who drive, test and otherwise encounter a majority of new models that go on sale in America every year, we have plenty of knowledge of which trucks, sedans, SUVs and so forth are good bargains, which are worth a splurge and which are worth avoiding.
So, to help all of us out there find an affordable ride without going to the used car lot, we’ve pulled together a list of the top new hatchbacks, sedans, crossovers and pickup trucks you can go home with after spending less than 30 grand — destination fee included. For a little value-add, we’re even going so far as to specify the ideal trim level and options you should spend your hard-earned cash on, picking the ones that add the most to your car; all prices specified are with any packages mentioned in each listing.
Without further ado, here, then, are the 10 best new cars you can buy in 2024 for less than $30,000.
2024 VW Jetta Sport: $23,810
Did you know you can buy a brand-new, suprisingly roomy Volkswagen Jetta with a six-speed manual, a limited-slip differential, an impressive 184 lb-ft of torque and an all-glass digital instrument panel for a shockingly low price? Honestly, the Jetta Sport might be the best value proposition in today’s new car market. Almost makes up for them axing the stick shift out of the GTI and Golf R.
202 Kia Soul EX: $25,615
Much as Chevy does with the Trax, Kia markets the Soul as an SUV … but much like the Trax, it’s obviously a hatchback. But it’s a capacious, convenient one at that — and one that you can have with all the features, including the optional EX Designer Package that brings 18-inch wheels and unique interior trim, for less than $26K.

2024 Chevrolet Trax 2RS: $26,685
Speaking of the Trax: After driving the all-new model last year, we named it one of the best cheap cars Detroit has ever made — and it’s also one of the cheapest cars on this list. Even fully loaded, in RS trim with the optional Driver Confidence Package and Sunroof Package , it’s incredibly affordable. One thing you can’t get at any price is all-wheel-drive, but it’s such a good all-around package, you won’t mind.
Read our review of the Chevrolet Trax here.
2024 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport: $27,445
The Honda Civic has long been one of the best affordable cars on sale in America, and that remains as true as ever today. Here in 2024, the best bet is the hatchback body style, which offers more flexibility in cargo carrying than the sedan but gives up nothing in visual appeal.
The other reason we pick the hatch is that it’s the sole (non-performance trim) Civic where you can still find a six-speed manual, in the Sport trim; that would be our pick, but if you want / prefer / need an automatic, the CVT-only EX-L that packs more features also comes in under $30K.
Read our review of the Honda Civic here.
2024 Mazda CX-30 2.5 S Select Sport: $27,875
Mazda’s CX-30 may no longer be the freshest crossover in the brand’s showroom, but it still looks damn good — much like the closely related Mazda 3 hatch . Unlike the Mazda 3, you can buy it for under $30K with all-wheel-drive.
Read our review of the Mazda CX-30.
Pictured: Mazda CX-30 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus
2024 Subaru Crosstrek Premium: $28,985
Subaru’s new-and-improved Crosstrek is the best subcompact crossover you can buy right now, and it’s also available for under $30K — if only by choosing the Premium trim and forgoing the larger engine found in the Crosstrek Wilderness , Limited and Sport. Just be sure to also add the creatively named Optional Package , which brings blind spot and cross traffic warnings, heated seats and mirrors and a wiper de-icer, a power driver’s seat and a power moonroof.
Read our review of the Subaru Crosstrek here.
Pictured: Subaru Crosstrek Limited
2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV 1LT: $28,985
Chevrolet’s Bolt may be a bit long in the tooth, but it’s still a solid affordable EV, with room for four adults, more than 250 miles of range — and a reasonable price. We’d be sure to option it with the Driver Confidence Package , which brings blind spot and rear cross traffic alerts and rear parking assist, and the Comfort & Convenience Package that brings heated front seat and steering wheel.
Two important caveats apply here — one good, one bad. The good: the Bolt is also eligible for the full $7,500 federal tax credit that now comes at the point of sale, so your actual out-the-door price will probably be $21,485 — which would make it the cheapest car on the list, albeit on a technicality. The bad: the Bolt is leaving production, so inventory is going quick.
Read our review of the Chevrolet Bolt EV here.
2024 Subaru Impreza RS: $29,005
The new-for-’24 Impreza impresses in general, coming laden with an arsenal of safety and convenience features — and, of course, all-wheel-drive. The RS is the pick of the litter, though, thanks to its significantly more powerful engine (the one you can’t get in the similarly priced Crosstrek Premium, for what it’s worth) … as well as being fully loaded at a very reasonable price.
2024 Toyota Prius LE: $29,540
The Prius has long been affordable and fuel-efficient, but now it’s also handsome — and even bordering on fun to drive. The only one that falls within our price cap is the base model Prius LE, but that still provides you with everything you need in a daily driver. And hey, that’s the Prius with the best gas mileage, to boot.
Read our review of the Toyota Prius here.
Pictured: Toyota Prius Prime
2024 Ford Maverick XL AWD: $29,670
When the Maverick launched, it did so with that rare feature: a price starting under $20,000, at least on paper where they leave out the destination fee. Times have changed; 2021’s basic $20K Maverick XL hybrid now starts $5,000 higher — a 25-percent climb.
Still, it’s the most affordable way to score a new pickup truck in America, and it still has plenty going for it. Opt for the base XL trim and the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four; not only is it now the standard engine, it’s also the only way to get all-wheel-drive. And since it’s a truck, you’ll want the optional 4K Tow Package that beefs up the auxiliaries for towing duty and the Ford CoPilot360 Package that brings blind spot and cross-traffic warnings.
Read our review of the Ford Maverick.

Honorable Mention — 2024 Mini Cooper S Hardtop 2-Door: $30,095
Okay, so the Mini Cooper S 2-door earns an honorable mention here because it’s ever-so-slightly over the limit — less than a Franklin, in fact. And to get it that way, you have to spec it with zero options. But that still gets you all the inherent Mini charm and fun, as well as — blessedly — a six-speed stick.

The GT1 offers more power than the base model ’s 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. The Kia Stinger GT1 can go from zero to 60 in a respectable 4.6 seconds. The Stinger comes standard with rear-wheel drive , but features an optional all-wheel drive system.
13. Hyundai Veloster N
Ranked thirteenth is the Hyundai Veloster N hot hatch , which is the high-performance variant of the now-discontinued Hyundai Veloster. New versions of the Veloster N are just above $30,000 at $32,500. The Hyundai Veloster N has a 275 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. While it comes standard with a manual transmission , an eight-speed dual clutch automatic transmission is available for an extra $1,500. The Hyundai Veloster N does 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 155 mph.

Next is the Mazda MX-5 Miata two-seat roadster. The Miata can go from zero to 60 in 5.7 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 135 mph with its softtop convertible roof. Models with the hardtop roof in its RF form have a slightly slower time of 5.8 seconds. The Miata has one engine choice, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. Because the Mazda MX-5 Miata only has one engine, higher trims don’t boost the acceleration, ??but the top Grand Touring trim starts at $31,770 and adds features like automatic high-beam headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, traffic sign recognition, climate control, leather seats, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
15. Tesla Model 3
Ranked fifteenth is the Tesla Model 3 electric car. The Tesla Model 3 ’s rear-wheel- drive version is the only trim available for under $50,000, and can reach 0-60 in 5.8 seconds.
16. Subaru BRZ
The Subaru BRZ rounds out the list. After a hiatus for the 2021 model year, the BRZ re-emerged in 2022 with a full redesign. The BRZ has a 2.4-liter four-cylinder boxer engine with 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive come standard, and a six-speed automatic transmission is optional. The BRZ can go from 0-60 in 5.8 seconds when paired with its manual transmission .
Bottom Line
All sports cars are fun to drive, but the ones topping this list offer a fast-yet-practical option for those who want a thrilling driving experience. For a budget of $50,000, buyers can graduate from the base trim of many sports cars and afford later-model used luxury sports cars .
