You may have been on a classic New York City bus tour or even a boat tour…but what about duck tour that drives around the streets and then sails in the river?

The bus/boat tour starts in the heart of Times Square and makes its way through Manhattan and then into the waters of the Hudson River (yes, you read that correctly; the “Duck” is an amphibious vehicle that transitions easily from land to water). The vehicle was inspired by the voyages of Henry Hudson’s ship The Half-Moon .

Henry Hudson, for those who need a refresher, was the 16th century explorer who is known for discovering both New York and the Hudson River.

The road and river tour, that was recently also known as the New York Splash Tour , includes travels to view some of New York's most famous sights (tour guides are on hand to point them out); and a stop in the NYC Ducks Theater, where you’ll experience a multimedia motion-simulator ride that mimics Hudson’s journey across the Atlantic (complete with rushing wind).

While “Duck” tours are available at other locations around the world, New York Duck Tours is the only one that offers the full multimedia experience and is the only one in NYC!

The tour culminates with a splash into the Hudson River for a fabulous view of Manhattan. The Duck returns to Times Square after the tour. The tour lasts between 60 and 75 minutes.

The nyc duck tour operation was cancelled in december 2012 as the boat was deemed not safe for the extreme conditions of the hudson river and failed to get an operators license by the city, discount broadway tickets.

About Captain Bryce Collins

Bryce is a New York State Guide #4457 and Licensed United States Coast Guard Captain. Bryce Collins has had a Guide license since 2004. He is the Sole Proprietor of Eastern View Outfitters which was established in 2009, and he currently resides less than 15 miles from where he grew up. Bryce graduated Cum Laude from SUNY Plattsburgh with a B.S. degree in Environmental Science. After college he pursued a career in his field, taking a Government position utilizing GIS mapping as part of a Community Plans Team in western NY. After several years he chose to make a life change, giving up a career in his field and to follow his true passion…. The Outdoors! 

Amongst his outdoor pursuits Bryce has traveled to and guided Clients and Friends in several other states. In the Spring of 2012, Bryce added a single season Grand Slam– to his accolades (Harvesting 4 of the 6 species of Wild Turkey in one Spring). Traveling to Florida (Osceola), Oklahoma(Rio Grande), New Mexico(Merriams) and New York (Eastern) to harvest the four wild turkey subspecies, all in the same spring season. (Rio-Grande, Merriam’s, Osceola, Eastern).

In the Spring of 2021 Bryce added the coveted Single Season World Slam– Harvesting all 6 species of Wild Turkey that inhabit the Earth in a single Spring season. A duck boat that happened to be conducting water rescue training saved a man and his child from the Charles River Monday morning in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The child, who was under 2, was able to squeeze through a railing near the back side of the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge and fell into the river, Massachusetts State Police said. The child's father then jumped in, grabbing the child in the water.

The pair was then picked up by a passing Boston Duck Tours boat. The company's CEO said the boat was conducting safety training exercises in the area, and boat's operators spoke to reporters about the irony of doing "man overboard" training when they were waved down in their vessel, Olga Ironsides.

They said they lowered the back stairs to grab the little boy out of the water.

The Cambridge Fire Department said the man and child were being evaluated by EMS, and that Cambridge and state police were at the scene. The child was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

The situation remained under investigation.

Images shared with NBC10 Boston showed the pair in the water, clinging to the rocks that line the river, as the duck boat approached.

Dom DeMasi, who took the images, said he "heard somebody screaming, and I looked over across the river and there was a guy jumping into the water."

He thought at first a dog might have been the source of the splashing, but was astonished to see "this guy pick up a baby out of the water." '

Rosario and his colleague, duck boat narrator Kevin O'Neill, said they were happy to have conducted a rescue and that the father and son will live to tell the tale.
