Glide through Savannah’s stately streets

Savannah, Georgia, is a city with a storied past. From its foundation as a utopian experiment to its Revolutionary War struggles and Antebellum grandeur, there's a rich mixture of cultural heritage to discover on a bike tour of Savannah. Sights on this city tour will include Savannah's squares, Forsyth Park and its fountain, the main shopping and dining districts, the Savannah River and waterfront, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil sites, Savannah College of Art & Design sites, and museums. Prepare to be spellbound by Savannah's southern charm as you absorb the arresting Victorian and Antebellum architecture of the historic district and ride under the dappled light of Spanish moss-covered oaks.

Established in 1733 by General James Oglethorpe, a British philanthropist, the city was built with wide, tree-lined streets and stately squares. This careful planning gave the city an air of dignity and harmony for the debtors and religious minorities Oglethorpe intended as the inhabitants of this utopian project. You'll visit nine of the 22 impressive squares on this guided tour, learning about how Savannah's profile developed as the city grew under the wealth of cotton plantations in the Antebellum Era.

Your route will then take you to Forsyth Park, initially completed in 1858, today having grown to encompass thirty acres of lush parkland in the heart of the city. Your bike tour will stop at the centerpiece of the park, the iconic Forsyth Fountain that brings a slice of European sophistication to the park, having been modeled on the ornate fountains of Paris. From here, you'll pedal on some of the best areas in the city for dining and shopping, where your guide will share their recommendations, including traditional Southern cooking spots and unique products from local craftspeople.

The bicycle tour rides on to the Savannah River and waterfront, an historically significant trade route that connected Savannah to global markets. Today, you'll pedal past the restored 19th century buildings that have transformed the area into a wonderful waterfront destination for dining and entertainment. Throughout this day tour, your guide will draw your attention to several sites that appear in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Published in 1994 by John Berendt, this true crime account of a murder in Savannah gripped audiences across the globe, introducing them to a cast of colorful characters that called the city home.

Ride on to discover several of the sites that make up the Savannah College of Art & Design. The College is responsible for the restoration and preservation of many historic buildings in the city, repurposing them as classrooms and galleries. The college's presence contributes to the wider thriving artistic community in Savannah that celebrates the creativity of students, professionals and amateurs alike in numerous galleries, markets and workshops throughout the city.

Over the course of this family-friendly day tour, you'll also stop at many museums, galleries and historic homes that are open to public admission. Your guide will acquaint you with the highlights of each, helping you to narrow down those to which you'll return when your day tour is done.

We had the pleasure of having "Non-Fiction Steve" as our tour guide. He was accommodating and really fun! We were running a bit late, but Steven was gracious enough to wait for us and still provide a tour with the remaining 1.5hrs left on our reservation. Steve asked about our interests so he could play to those as he relayed facts and details about the various sites he showed us. We had a blast. I will definitely book another bike tour the next time I'm in town!

Thanks for your great review Dina! We are so happy to hear you had a blast.

Our tour guide, Michael, did such a great job with providing a balance of history and recommendations for this tourist! We love doing city tours, but a bike tour (in any city) is 100% the way to go! We could spend as much time as needed at any one site without feeling rushed. Savannah is such a great walkable and bikealbe place, and the tour gave us a better perspective on where to visit and how long it would take us to get back to each place from our hotel.

This is a fun low key athletic tour, that's perfect for families, couples and most everybody. You don't have to be in great shape to do this tour! You can cover much more ground than walking, and it's so fun on a bike! Nonfiction Steve was full of information and he was animated and kept all of us engaged.

Photo of Lindsey C.

Get Steve as your guide!! He was energetic, fun, personable, and full of historical facts. What a fun day riding through Savannah and learning all about the town. Such a great way to see the city. Loved it!

Photo of Lauren F.

BEST way to see the city. So much history and information. Steve was AMAZING and went above and beyond to give a great tour

Photo of Janelle P.

A MUST do I'm so glad my friend booked this for us. Try to do the tour earlier in your trip! It was fun to hear all the stories and all the history about Savannah and then to go check out some spots on our later days in our vacay or be like "hey that place was from the bike tour!" and remember details from the tour as we walked around later in our trip. It's also important to do this tour on your 1st or 2nd day of vacation, because our tour guide recommended so many shopping, activities, and food places that came in handy when needed later on! If we did the tour on a later day we probably would have felt we "missed out" on food or activities that were suggested and didn't have the time to try out. The bikes were comfy for 2 hours they had upgraded seats and a basket for purse/ water. The 2 hours flew by! We loved every second of the tour, you really ride through all of Savannah and nothing gets missed. Weather was nice and cool in the morning, plus there was no traffic so I'd suggest an earlier tour before people start getting out and about. It was really easy with minimal traffic not worrying about cars or walkers.

Mar 11, 2022

Janelle, thank you!! We're so happy to hear that you had an amazing ride with us and loved all of our guides' recommendations. We hope you loved Savannah enough to come back and visit again in the future!

Get tour guide and awesome information. Bikes were in good condition. I read previous reviews that recommended doing the bike tour first while visiting and I totally agree, we knew exactly where we wanted to go after the bike tour.

We were visiting from Denver and Nonfiction Steve was our tour guide. Steve was great and made sure everyone was safe, entertained and included. Steve is very knowledgeable with Savannah and made sure to include everyone in his tour. I highly recommend this tour if you want to learn more about Savannah. Ask for Steve!

Best bike tour. Great guide. Great city , great time. Wanted to explore Savannah and learn a little history. I found a place on line for things to do in the area. Very cool experience. My first stop was the bike tour upon arriving. 2 hours long with several breaks in between . Our host offered water at the beginning and end of the trip. The bikes were clean, safe, and COOL.

Compliance status

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation.

  • Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website. These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
  • Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over 7 different coloring options.
  • Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

New for 2024: This addition to our Spring and Fall schedule takes you through the amazing low country of Georgia. Historic, scenic towns of Savannah, Jekyll Island and St. Simons Island are among the destination towns on this tour.

The coastal areas of Georgia are extremely flat with the exception of some bridges and overpasses. On this tour we will utilize over 50 miles of paved trails on St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island. Although there are few trails around Savannah, there are wonderfully marked bike lanes in the Historic district and low volume roads leading to Isle of Hope and Wormsloe Plantation.

This all-inclusive tour includes upscale hotel accommodations and is designed for recreational to intermediate cyclists who love riding an average of 20-40 miles per day on paved trails, a few unpaved trails, and streets with bike lanes and shoulders. We recommend a modest pace of 10-12 miles per hour or slower if you would like to take in the natural beauty and wildlife the area has to offer.

The scheduled springtime tour is perfectly timed for the blooms of azaleas and other native plants. The weather is perfect, and the tourists have not arrived for the summer season. And the late October tour is the perfect Indian summer weather. Wildlife is abundant. Alligators, nesting egrets, eagles, and Loggerhead turtles can easily be viewed from a distance. There are three wildlife areas where we have great viewing opportunities:

  • Sea Turtle Center of GA
  • Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge
  • Driftwood Beach

Our three destinations are loaded with history. In our short stay in Savannah, we will ride to Wormsloe Plantation and Bonaventure Cemetery and cycle past dozens of historic squares, fountains, and parks.

Think of bringing a bike with a 32cm tires for riding the roads and possibly the beaches at low tide. Both St. Simons Island and Jekyll have beautiful, natural, gently sloping beaches great for riding, walking or sunbathing.

Take your time and enjoy your ride. The support van will be a few miles up the road should you need assistance. We welcome e-bikes and 2-wheel recumbents but do not have transportation space for trikes. There will be no camping with this group. Just very nice hotels and great dining out.

The tour starts in Savannah, GA and ends in Jekyll Island. Transportation back to your car or to the airport in Savannah is included in this tour price. You may opt to come early and stay late and enjoy a little beach time.

Accommodations include 1 night at DoubleTree Savannah, 2 nights at Sea Island Inn, St. Simons Island, and 2 nights at Jekyll Island Club Hotel.
