The European Challenge Tour has today announced a record-breaking global schedule for the 2022 season which will see the Road to Mallorca’s total prize fund surpass the €8,000,000 mark for the first time. The first 20 players will earn DP World Tour cards for the 2023 season.

The 2022 Road to Mallorca will consist of 31 tournaments staged across three continents in 18 different countries.

It includes a return to Scotland for the first time in four years when the Farmfoods Scottish Challenge supported by The R&A takes place in the final week of May. The event, which will be held in association with 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie, will be the first of 19 tournaments in consecutive weeks where the Road to Mallorca will weave through 15 countries and end in France, from September 29 – October 2.

The comeback of the Road to Mallorca to China in the Challenge Tour Schedule 2022.

The Challenge Tour also returns to China for the first time since 2019 with back-to-back events, including the Foshan Open, where players will be given a final chance to earn their spot in the season-ending Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by The R&A.

The Grand Finale of the Challenge Tour 2022 takes another bite from the venue of 2021.

The finale of the 2022 Road to Mallorca will return to Club de Golf Alcanada, the setting for the 2019 Grand Final, where the top 45 players on the Road to Mallorca Rankings will compete for one of 20 life changing DP World Tour cards for the 2023 season. The top five graduates will also receive the John Jacobs Bursary, announced last month as part of DP World’s title partnership of the European Tour group’s main Tour.

The 2022 schedule includes seven co-sanctioned events with the Sunshine Tour, including a maiden visit to Tanzania for the Mount Kilimanjaro Klassic at Kilimanjaro Golf & Wildlife Estate with Tanzania set to become the 52nd country to stage a Challenge Tour event.

Jamie Hodges, Head of Challenge Tour about the 2022 schedule:

“I am incredibly proud to unveil our schedule for the 2022 Road to Mallorca season, which boasts the biggest total prize fund since the Challenge Tour’s inception in 1989.”

“This expansive global schedule would not be possible without the incredible support of our promoters, national federations and tournament sponsors, so I would like to take this opportunity to thank them.

“We are also very grateful for the commitment of Rolex and The R&A, as well as DP World through their title partnership of the DP World Tour, all of which has helped us raise prize funds and increase playing opportunities for our members, further strengthening the Challenge Tour’s reputation as the perfect platform for players to achieve global success.”

Challenge Tour unveils 2023 schedule with record-breaking prize fund and 29 events

The European Challenge Tour has announced its schedule for 2023, with Europe’a second tier tour set to feature a record overall prize fund and a minimum of 29 tournaments staged across three continents in 18 different countries.

Players will compete for total prize money of €8.2m, which will begin with the Bain’s Whisky Cape Town Open in February, the first of four co-sanctioned events with the Sunshine Tour in South Africa.

India returns as a host country for the first time since 2013 with two events in March, the Duncan Taylor Black Bull Challenge followed by The Challenge presented by KGA.

The Challenge Tour also returns to the UAE in April for the first time since 2018 with back-to-back events, including the Abu Dhabi Challenge, as part of the European Tour group’s long-term partnership with the Emirates Golf Federation.

It will then head to Spain in May for the Challenge de España, which will kick-start a run of 20 tournaments in 22 weeks and see the Road to Mallorca travel through 15 countries in Europe, including Italy for the Italian Challenge at Golf Nazionale, the venue which will then host the first two days of the 2023 Junior Ryder Cup in September.

The 2023 season will conclude with the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by The R&A, at Club de Golf Alcanada from November 2-5, as the top 45 players on the Rankings battle it out for one of the life changing 20 DP World Tour cards.

Those 20 players who benefit from this formal pathway to the DP World Tour will then be eligible for the DP World Tour’s Earnings Assurance Programme, guaranteeing them minimum earnings of $150,000 for the 2024 season if they play in 15 or more events. The top five graduates will also benefit from the John Jacobs Bursary, similarly designed to provide security and a strong platform for their first season on the European Tour group’s top tier.

Payday in the Bahamas

Here's the prize money payout for each golfer at the 2022 Hero World Challenge

1445776885

David Cannon

When you think of end-of-the-year exhibitions like the Hero World Challenge, it’s hard not to look at the events as paid vacations for the participants. There were just 20 players competing at Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas, all staying in swanky villas, playing in a no-cut event with Viktor Hovland defending his title and taking home a $1 million prize money payout—and no one else walking away with less than $100,000. Given the large sums of money that are starting to be thrown around in the men’s professional golf, the $3.5 million overall purse on offer is modest, but it’s still a handsome reward at the end of a long (and tumultuous) 2022 season.

The best part of the Hero, beyond the money it raises for Tiger Woods’ TGR Foundation, was that the field was swamped with top-ranked players. As disappointing as it was that Tiger had to withdraw with a foot injury , 16 of the top 20 in the world played, with runner-up Scottie Scheffler just missing on a chance to take back the top spot in the World Ranking . There was money on the line, for sure, but pride as well.

Here's the prize money payout for everybody in the field. We’ll update this shortly after the end of the event with players names and specific prize money totals.

Nedbank golf challenge 2022 field.

The Nedbank Golf Challenge returns to the DP World Tour schedule in its 40th anniversary following a two-year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The tournament, which takes place at the Gary Player Country Club in South Africa’s Sun City, is the penultimate event of the season as players attempt to qualify for the season-closing DP World Tour Championship.

Two of the world’s top 50 are in the field this week. Tommy Fleetwood is the defending champion having won the 2019 tournament in a playoff against Swedish player Marcus Kinhull. The World No.25 last played in the PGA Tour’s CJ Cup where he finished tied for fourth, and that encouraging performance will give him confidence ahead of this week’s tournament. Meanwhile, the Englishman is currently 13th in the DP World Tour Rankings as he aims to head into next week’s DP World Tour season finale in the best possible form.

The man one place behind Fleetwood in the Official World Golf Ranking is Ryan Fox. The New Zealander has recent success of his own having finished tied for fourth in last month’s Mallorca Open. That display came in the same month that he won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship . Fox is faring even better in the DP World Tour Rankings than Fleetwood in second behind Rory McIlroy .

After winning the 2017 title, there is also an appearance from LIV Golf player Branden Grace. The South African is one of several players who appeared for LIV Golf in its opening season. Richard Bland, Oliver Bekker, and Pablo Larrazábal are also in the field along with Adrian Otaegui, who followed up his dominant win in the Andalucia Masters at Real Club de Valderrama by taking part in the LIV Golf Team Championship at Trump National Doral in Florida.

Other South Africans in the field include Dean Burmester, Thriston Lawrence and Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who won the South African open at the same course in 2020.There are several recent DP World Tour winners in the field too, including Jordan Smith, who won the Portugal Masters , Open De France champion Guido Migliozzi and Robert MacIntyre.

The Scot boosted his chances of appearing in next year’s Ryder Cup when he won the Italian Open at the venue for that tournament, Marco Simone Golf and Country Club . He’ll be out to impress the European team captain Luke Donald, who is also in the field as players take on one of the longest courses in the world at 7,834 yards.

Scottie Scheffler takes giant leap toward $25 million FedEx Cup prize

ATLANTA (AP) — Scottie Scheffler started the Tour Championship with a two-shot lead based on his dominant season. And then he looked dominant as ever Thursday, posting the best round at 6-under 65 to build a seven-shot lead and take a huge step toward the FedEx Cup title.

Scheffler had five birdies over his last seven holes on a sweltering afternoon at renovated East Lake to pull away from Xander Schauffele and everyone else.

He made birdie from the bunker on the par-5 18th hole with an 8-foot putt and took his spot in the PGA Tour record book with an asterisk. No one has ever led by seven after 18 holes as far back as the tour keeps such records.

The asterisk is because he was only one shot better than Collin Morikawa, Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ont., and three others who each had a 66.

This is the sixth year of the “starting strokes” format at the FedEx Cup finale. Scheffler was the No. 1 seed based on his six PGA Tour victories, which includes the Masters and The Players Championship. He started the tournament at 10-under par and with a two-shot lead over Xander Schauffele, the double major winner and No. 2 seed.

This is the third straight year Scheffler has started with the lead. He has yet to win the FedEx Cup and its $25 million bonus. And by the sound of it, that wasn't on his mind.

“I wasn’t thinking about the lead out there today. There’s no reason to. It’s the first day of the tournament. It’s 72 holes. It’s a long time out there to be playing with a lead,” Scheffler said. “I was just focused on staying in my own world and continuing to just try to execute.”

He got a quick reminder that a two-shot lead on Thursday — or even on a Sunday — is nothing to celebrate. Schauffele made up that deficit on the opening hole with an 8-foot birdie, while Scheffler made his lone bogey by having to play short of the green from behind a tree.

Scheffler, on the strength of a 35-foot birdie putt at No. 7, led by one when they made the turn and then left his fellow Olympic gold medalist in the dust.

Schauffele missed an 8-foot birdie chance at No. 10 and a 5-foot par putt on No. 11. Scheffler made birdie on the next three holes as Schauffele couldn't find a fairway, which led to him not having any reasonable birdie chances.

“I think I scored OK actually for how bad I hit it,” said Schauffele, who headed for the range when his round was over. “Overall it was kind of a ‘meh’ day. Wasn't something I was proud of or disgusted by.”

The difference between golf's best two players this year was clear — Scheffler was able to control his distance from the fairway, Schauffele was guessing on shots out of the rough.

“Scottie was almost in every fairway, it looked like,” Schauffele said. “It looked like he was going through wedge practice while he was out there.”

Indeed, Scheffler missed only two greens and putted for birdie or better on his last 14 holes. The world's No. 1 player poured it on at the end, and with the head start, he was 16-under par.

But this chase for the $25 million bonus is far from over, and Scheffler is proof of that. He was the top seed and led by five shots after the first round of the 2022 Tour Championship. That also was the year he took a six-shot lead into the final round and lost to Rory McIlroy.

Only one other top seed led after the first day since this format began in 2019. That was Patrick Cantlay, who led by two and went on to win the FedEx Cup by one shot.

Morikawa has a history of great starts. He made up a nine-shot deficit in one round last year with a 61. On this day, he ran off six straight birdies on the back nine, and his 66 will put him in the final group with Scheffler on Friday.

Morikawa and Schauffele (70) were at 9-under par. Another shot back was a large group that included Adam Scott (66), Hideki Matsuyama (70) and Keegan Bradley, who went from No. 50 to No. 4 by winning the BMW Championship last week.

Scoring was not terribly low on the new-look East Lake, with its heavily contoured greens, closely mown areas instead of thick rough and the absence of trees. But then, only one player was over par — Billy Horschel at 73.

Schauffele at least extended his astonishing streak at East Lake even with the redesign. He lost a lot of ground on the back nine, but his 70 was the 26th time in 29 rounds that he was under par. He has never shot over par.

That wasn't good enough to keep pace with Scheffler.

Scottie Scheffler started the event as the betting favorite , no surprise given that he also started at 10 under par, good for a two-shot advantage thanks to his status as the top-ranked player in the standings. Xander Schauffele, second in the standings, began at 8 under, while third-place Hideki Matsuyama started at 7 under. Players ranked 26-30 began the event at even par. The Tour Championship has used this staggered-start format since 2019, when the winner received $15 million.

Every player in the field who cracks the top 12 this week will earn at least $1 million. Last place pays $550,000.

Despite the staggered start, there's usually room for players to make moves at East Lake as the course traditionally yielded low scores. But this year it could play much differently thanks to a massive redesign .

2024 Tour Championship purse, prize money: Payouts from record $100M bonus pool for FedEx Cup Playoffs, finale

The winner's check this week represents the largest ever given out on the pga tour.

fedex-cup-playoffs-trophy-2023-g.jpg

The largest prize fund in professional golf is at stake this week as the 2024 Tour Championship begins at East Lake Golf Club. With the top 30 players from the PGA Tour vying for their slice of the $100 million FedEx Cup bonus pool -- up $25 million from last year -- competitors will have the chance to see jaw-dropping figures hit their back accounts by week's end.

Signature events and the first two playoff events boasted a total purse of $20 million, which amounts to $5 million less than what this week's eventual winner will take home. Increasing $7 million compared to the last two seasons, the winner's share represents the largest in PGA Tour history and a $10 million increase compared to 2019 -- the first year of the staggered start format.

Scottie Scheffler is the lone man to surpass $25 million in earnings this season as he won the Masters, Players Championship and four signature events -- six of the largest paydays of the year. Xander Schauffele nearly clipped $20 million himself thanks to two major victories, while Hideki Matsuyama, Wyndham Clark and Rory McIlroy round out those to earn more than eight figures in 2024.

A top-five finish will guarantee players at least a $5 million payday, while those inside the top 12 with all see seven figures next to their names. Everyone in the field will earn at least a half million dollars for qualifying for the Tour Championship.

Let's take a look at the payout list for the 30 players who will be in attendance at the 2024 Tour Championship. The other 120 players in the FedEx Cup standings will split the remaining $17.05 million.

challenge tour golf prize money 2022

The 2024 Ally Challenge final leaderboard is headed by winner Stewart Cink, who topped the PGA Tour Champions leaderboard this week with a win on the 2024 PGA Tour Champions schedule at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc, Mich.

Cink broke through for his first PGA Tour Champions victory, earning a four-shot win over KJ Choi on 17-under 199 in a 54-hole tournament.

Presidents Cup captain Mike Weir finished in third and a shot behind Choi, while Darren Clarke finished in fourth on 10-under 206.

Cink won the $330,000 winner's share of the $2,200,000 purse.

Ally Challenge recap notes

Cink wins the 20th PGA Tour Champions title of the year, getting into the winner's circle on the 50-plus tour for the first time.

The money Cink -- and every PGA Tour Champions player in the field -- earned is converted into Charles Schwab Cup points, with every dollar converted into two points during the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs.

There is no cut on PGA Tour Champions-run events, including the major championships they run.

The 2024 PGA Tour Champions schedule continues in two weeks with the Ascension Charity Classic in Missouri.
