The advertisement of Greg LeMond’s 1989 Tour de France winner Bottecchia (in Italian). A beautiful and extraordinary bike. LeMond was racing for the AD Renting-W-Cup-Bottecchia team.

During the 1980s and at the beginning of the ’90s, the size of the front wheels of the time-trial bikes was 650c, unlike today’s bicycles.

Bottecchia is a historical bicycle company that started as a small cyclery (bicycle building atelier) of Carnielli and was improved in 1924 by  Ottavio Bottecchia , the first Italian winner of the Tour de France (he won twice, in1924 and 1925).

A new company with the new name “Bottecchia” was born after the death of Ottavio Bottecchia in 1926.

In 1940 the workforce of Bottecchia was 100 people and the company became an outstanding race firm with the historical name of Ottavio Bottecchia and under the management of the Carnielli family.

Greg LeMond’s 1989 Tour de France winner Bottecchia bike was equipped with Mavic wheels and Mavic groupset: it was the only victory for Mavic as a groupset supplier in the history of the Tour de France.

Did you notice the model of the rear wheel? It is Comete . It was so popular to name things “comet” in the late 80s, because of the last visit of the Halley’s Comet in 1986.

Another important feature of the bike, the most notable first use of the aerobars: In 1989, the Swiss bicycle manufacturer Scott introduced one of the most significant product innovations in the history of cycling – the clip-on aerodynamic handlebar.

The handlebar was strategically utilized by Greg LeMond , when he beat Laurent Fignon by nearly a minute in the 24.5km final time trial and won the Tour de France with the narrowest margin in its history: eight seconds. The elbow pads are placed near shoulder width, forearms elevated about 15 to 20 degrees, and hands in a fist position. Pioneered by aerodynamicist Boone Lennon , this was the birth of the modern aero position.

LeMond’s 54.545 km/h average speed for the stage 21 time trial was the fastest ever ridden in Tour history. Since then only the 1994 prologue and David Zabriskie‘s 2005 time trial performance have been faster. The press immediately labeled LeMond’s come-from-behind triumph as, “the most astonishing victory in Tour de France history”.

Where is LeMond’s 1989 TT bike now?

VAVA II Yacht – Glamorous $150 Million Superyacht

Built in the United Kingdom and delivered in 2012, VAVA II yacht is an impressive creation by Devonport. She is one of only 34 yachts in her size range.

The interior of the VAVA II was designed by Rémi Tessier, a designer who favours simplicity and functionality.

Inside the yacht you can find a beauty salon, a gym, a beach club, an elevator, and to top it all off – air conditioning.

Not much is known about her interior, having mostly been seen by those fortunate enough to visit VAVA II.

There are not many pictures available, but if it’s anything like the gorgeous exterior, it’s surely a sight to behold.

VAVA II yacht is 96 meters long (315 ft), has a beam of 17,3 meters (56,9 ft), and a 4,8 meter (15,9 ft) draft. She can reach a top speed of 19 knots, and a cruising speed of 15 knots.

The twin diesel MTU (16V 4000 M70) 2,333hp engines that power her, make it possible for her to reach those 19 knots.

She has a reach of more than 4500 nautical miles, and anchor stabilizers make VAVA II comfortable to be on. She has the capacity to keep up to 36 guests, and up to 34 crew.

The Vava II yacht has a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, and the exterior is designed by Redman Whiteley Dixon. She has four large tender garage aft and a pool with varying depth levels.

There are a total of six decks and is built like a small ship. A helicopter landing pad is also one of the many features of this yacht.

Her mostly white exterior shows off all the details in her designs, along with the sleek lines and impressive size.

Inspired by naval design, she has smooth curves and decks stacked neatly, with an overall balanced look.

Vava II—More like va-va-voom !  Britain’s Largest Yacht Shocks and Awes

Constructed by Devonport, just prior to its acquisition by Pendennis, this superyacht quite literally made waves as she launched in 2012 as the last vessel by the British shipyard—and the largest. Vava II is full of surprising and impressive capabilities. Her owner is a skilled Swiss-Italian sailor and founder of a professional yacht racing team, winning America’s Cup in 2003.

Spotted in Keppel Bay, Singapore, the six-deck yacht shows off her exterior design, brought to life by RWD.  Vava II is as long as she is luxurious.  At 96 meters, her structure is reminiscent of naval design, with smooth exterior curves and neatly stacked decks, centered for an enthralling balance.

Her interior, crafted by French designer Rémi Tessier , is mysterious.  There are limited visuals available of the alluring interior design, making Vava II all the more enigmatic.  Whatever artistry Tessier implemented on the superyacht is really only known to those lucky enough to be invited on board.

What is known, however, is that Vava II does not short her guests on accommodations .  The superyacht is capable of supporting a crew of 34 members, four tenders, a massive swimming pool, and a helicopter pad.

The 96 metre (315ft) motor yacht VAVA II was built at th e by Devonport Yachts shipyard in Plymouth, United Kingdom (Rebranded as Pendennis Plus in 2011). This is a magnificent boat in every way and she is the largest private superyacht to have been built and launched in the UK, England and Britain, if you do not count Royal yachts.

Yacht Vava II was launched and christened last year on the 10th of September. The yacht Vava II’s has her naval architecture undertaken by Devonport Yachts (rebranded as Pendennis Plus in 2011), who also built the yacht, and her exterior was designed by Redman Whitely Dixon. To finish off the design team, the yacht interior was created by Remi Tessier. She has been built from steel with an aluminium superstructure. Vava II boasts SOLAS-36 passenger ship standards and will therefore be able to set a new standard in the yacht charter market if available.

Further Details of superyacht Vava II have so far been kept by Pendennis and the yacht designers . There is no doubt that she is an important superyacht which is drawing plenty of interest from luxury yacht professionals. Further information and yacht images of the Vava II yacht are pending, and that information will be provided as it comes to light. Motor Yacht VAVA II from the bow

‘Vava’ is an interesting name for a yacht, however it is not known what the word emanates from is or where it was derived from. The first VAVA is a 47 metre Feadship motor yacht which was launched in 1996. That yacht was owned by the successful and well-known Italian/Swiss yachtsman Ernesto Bertarelli a pharmaceuticals magnet and owner of the ex-America’s Cup team Alinghi, which held the Cup for 3 events. History of Novosibirsk Oblast

Over thousands of years, the territory of the Novosibirsk region, due to its location on the border of natural zones and cultural regions (the Siberian taiga and the Eurasian steppe), played the role of a buffer zone or border zone of different peoples.

In the 13th-15th centuries, this land was the eastern outskirts of the Golden Horde. Later, until the end of the 16th century, it was part of the Siberian Khanate. In the 18th century, the territory of the present Novosibirsk region became part of the Russian Empire.

Despite the relatively favorable climate, the Russians began to settle here relatively late. The Barabin Tatars were the indigenous people. Today, their total population is about 10,000 people living mainly in the western parts of the region.

The Barabin Tatars were subjected to constant attacks of the Kalmyks (the Oyrates and Teleuts). Russian villages were also under the threat. That’s why people preferred to settle in the north, near Tomsk. Only at the end of the 17th century, Novosibirsk province became attractive to settlers.

More Historical Facts…

The first settlement was founded by the boyar son Alexey Kruglik in 1695. Later, this settlement became the village of Kruglikovo. Today, it is located in Bolotninsky district. In the early 18th century, Berdsky stockaded town was built. Over time, the threat from the nomads decreased and the number of settlers increased.

In 1722, the Siberian line of fortresses along the Irtysh River was constructed. The locals were mainly engaged in soil tilling, fishing and hunting. In the early 19th century, the famous Ural manufacturer Akinfiy Demidov constructed two copper melting plants here - Kolyvansky and Barnaulsky.

In 1893, due to the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway and the railway bridge across the Ob River, Alexandrovsky settlement was built (from 1895 - Novonikolayevsky). Thanks to its convenient geographical location (the Trans-Siberian Railway crossing the Ob River, transportation ways connecting Siberia with the European part of the Russian Empire), its trade importance grew rapidly. In 1909, Novonikolayevsk became a town. In 1925, it was renamed in Novosibirsk.

Before 1921, the territory of Novosibirsk oblast was part of Tomsk gubernia, from 1921 to 1925 - of Novonikolayevsk gubernia, from 1925 to 1930 - of Siberian krai, from 1930 to 1937 - of West Siberian krai. September 28, 1937, West Siberian krai was divided into Novosibirsk oblast and Altay krai. This date is considered the official date of the region formation.

Novosibirsk Oblast - Features

Novosibirsk Oblast is located in the south east of the East-Siberian Plain, in the steppe, forest-steppe and taiga zones, between the Ob and the Irtysh rivers. The length of the region from west to east - 642 km, from north to south - 444 km.

The southern part of Vasyugan swamp, the largest swamp in the world, occupies the territory in the north and north-west of the province. In the southwest, it borders with Pavlodar oblast of Kazakhstan.

There are about 3,000 lakes on the territory of the Novosibirsk region. The largest lakes are Chany, Ubinskoye, Sartlan. Novosibirsk Reservoir also known as “the Ob Sea” (1,082 sq. km.) was created for Novosibirsk Hydroelectric Power Plant.

The climate is continental. The average temperature in January ranges from minus 16 degrees Celsius in the south and minus 20 degrees Celsius in the north. The average temperature in July - plus 18-20 degrees Celsius.

The largest cities and towns are Novosibirsk (1,621,000), Berdsk (103,500), Iskitim (54,700), Kuybishev (43,000). Novosibirsk is one the largest industrial, transport, scientific, and cultural center of Russia, the third most populous city in the country after Moscow and St. Petersburg. It is also the capital of the Siberian Federal District.

In the historical part of Novosibirsk you can find a lot of preserved monuments of the Russian Empire times. The Soviet era is presented by numerous scientific and cultural attractions, as well as beautiful parks.

There are more than 500 deposits of various mineral resources in Novosibirsk Oblast (coal, refractory clay, peat, anthracite). Natural gas and oil fields are located in the north-western part of the region. There are significant reserves of underground thermal and mineral waters. Forests cover about 4 million hectares, more than 20% of the territory.

Novosibirsk Oblast is one of the most industrially developed regions in Siberia (metal processing and machine building, food, power engineering, non-ferrous metallurgy industries). Heavy industries are concentrated in Novosibirsk, Iskitim and Berdsk.

The regional agriculture specializes in the cultivation of grain, potatoes and vegetables. Dairy cattle breeding, poultry farming and beekeeping are developed. The production of flax plays an important role too. Agricultural development of the territory is not high (about 48%). In general, it has about 25% of all agricultural land in Western Siberia.
