Live reviews

One of the best live reggae shows I've seen in New York City. The band was amazing and I nearly lost my mind when Keznamdi performed an Amy Winehouse cover. Kelissa's set blew me away too. This show was flawless from top to bottom. I'm looking forward to more Keznamdi performances in New York City.

Keznamdi

“This is not a choice or hobby for me, Music chose me. it’s a way of life and the only thing I have ever known,” explains a passionate Keznamdi , describing why his path has already been carved out in stone. Keznamdi ’s fate as a musician was inevitable, growing up with his parents who are lead singers of international reggae band—Chakula, touring the world and recording their 10 albums in the recording studio, located in his own home, buried in the lush St. Andrew hills of Jamaica. Keznamdi ate, breathed and slept music. After countless nights falling asleep beside the strum of his fathers guitar, and hanging out back stage with his sisters at Reggae concerts, Kez already knew all the words to his parents’ songs at a very young age, bouncing perfectly on that infectious Reggae beat.

Not surprinsingly, Keznamdi recorded his first song at 5 years old—“Mix a Color”—an educational song about color mixing, inspired by his mother’s background in early childhood education at Harvard University. Already a natural and crowd pleaser on stage, he jumped at the opportunity to perform Mix a Color at his moms album release tours for her popular children’s album “Save the World” which became a viral hit in primary schools across Jamaica. Keznamdi and his sisters were placed in music schools throughout their childhood and each began to flourish as individual musicians in college. Keznamdi’s oldest sister, Kamila McDonald, former Miss Jamaica World Beach Beauty, popular entertainment TV personality in Jamaica, began recording with established recording artistes like Calico (his brother in law) while she was at Stanford University. Kelissa McDonald became a college favorite during her own college years and is currently pursuing a musical career in Kingston, Jamaica. “Nothing more natural than recording with my sisters, brothers, mother and father,” boasts Keznamdi who has been the catalyst behind many family collaborations and recordings. “All of them contribute to my music in a big way,” he explains.

Keznamdi began to take his musical career to the next level while at St. Mary’s College in Northern California. He was most excited to come to college in the United States primarily for the opportunity to play Division 1 soccer, another one of his life passions which he still manages to make the time for. Before coming to the US, Kez lived in Tanzania with his family for 3 years, and completed his high school years in Ethiopia. His multifarious musical sound is a direct product of his diverse and well-traveled background: a sweet blend of Reggae, Dancehall, Bongo Flava, R&B and Rap Music. The eclectic blend of melodies and conscious, positive lyrics in Keznamdi’s music has also been influenced by musical icons such as Stephen Marley, Damian Marley and Chakula. With a guitar always in hand and golden locks on his head, Keznamdi’s music is just as captivating as his image. His personality and sense of humor on stage is an immediate magnet for people of all cultures, seeking to tap into a “feel-good” musical vibration.

“My music is a message and everyone of my song dem have a purpose.” You need fi just sit back and relax or stand up and jam…whatever you are moved to do (he chuckles). “Just tek a listen and experience it for yourself and more important than anything else, digest my message.”

Keznamdi Tickets

Keznamdi concert tickets.

The serene sounds of reggae will send your heart soaring when you latch onto a pair of Keznamdi tickets! Keznamdi is a Jamaican-born musician influenced by iconic reggae legends. His parents led the reggae outfit Chakula. Keznamdi was surrounded by music from an early age. At five years old, he contributed his first track “Mix a Color” to the Save the World children’s compilation .

Keznamdi relocated to Tanzania at age 12, and Ethiopia four years later where he immersed himself in African culture. Keznamdi credits the world his parents showed him from an early age with helping him grow. He saw many different languages, foods, religions and people.

He topped Billboard’s Reggae Albums chart with his independently released Bridging the Gap EP in 2013, where he quietly and steadily built a fanbase with regular performances around his Jamaican hometown.  He worked with one of Jamaica’s most prominent music producers on his score, “Grade,” an artistic feat that continues to spark excitement around the globe.

The artist has also joined forces with ZHU and A-Trak on their smash hit, “As Crazy As It Is,” which landed an impressive 10 million streams on Spotify. He has headlined sold-out tours, directed his own music videos and told powerful stories through his art. From catchy chord progressions to under-the-radar riffs, Keznamdi tickets are available at TicketSmarter today!

“This is not a choice or hobby for me, Music chose me. it’s a way of life and the only thing I have ever known,” explains a passionate Keznamdi, describing why his path has already been carved out in stone.

Keznamdi ate, breathed and slept music. After countless nights falling asleep beside the strum of his fathers guitar, and hanging out backstage with his sisters at Reggae concerts, Kez already knew all the words to his parents’ songs at a very young age, bouncing perfectly on that infectious Reggae beat.

Not surprisingly, Keznamdi recorded his first song at 5 years old—“Mix a Color”—an educational song about color mixing, inspired by his mother’s background in early childhood education at Harvard University.

2013 saw him make his debut with the independent Bridging the Gap EP, scoring #1 on iTunes Top Reggae Albums Chart and the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart. He quietly built a fan base with consistent performances around Jamaica, maintaining a prolific output in the process. He joined forces with one of Jamaica’s most famous producers for the song “Grade,” which continued to stoke excitement.

During 2015, he made waves around the world by joining forces with ZHU and A-Trak on the hypnotic crossover hit “As Crazy As It Is,” which cracked 10 million Spotify streams. Co-written with Poo Bear [Justin Bieber, Sam Smith], the single “Champion” saw him deliver another reggae #1.

In 2017, he dropped the Skyline Levels, Vol. 1 EP, and headlined his own sold-out tour, packing venues everywhere. Calling the project Skyline Levels proved important as that’s how he defines his music. He notably shot the video for “Father Protect Me” in South Central Los Angeles, telling a powerful story. Next up, the project’s triumphant single “Victory” [feat. Chronixx] scored over 1.2 million YouTube views and half-a-million streams. On its heels, “So Right” amplified the impact among fans as he embarked on a tour with his full band.

Following a string of successful projects, tens of millions of streams, and critical acclaim, Keznamdi delivered a definitive body of work in the form of his 2020 full-length debut, Bloodline. Throughout 2018 and 2019, he recorded the full-length in Jamaica, mixed in Miami, and mastered at Abbey Road Studios in London. Along the way, his vision crystallized with universal ambition. Fittingly, he opens the album with “Skyline Drive.” Sunny acoustic guitar and samples of sirens and smoking underscore his bouncy delivery as he welcomes listeners to his old stomping grounds. Elsewhere, “City Lock” [feat. Tory Lanez] tempers his rapid cadence with a robust beat. It climaxes on a hypnotic and harmonic cameo from multi-platinum recording artist Tory, adding another dimension to this buoyant banger. Elsewhere, church-style organ swells towards another island-inflected beat on “Morning Comes” as “Queen of the Ghetto” spins “the story of a queen” over cinematic production. In many ways, the title track perfectly encapsulates the overarching theme and message. In the end, Bloodline will make you treasure Keznamdi’s legacy and even your own.
