The NYC Private School Suri Cruise Reportedly Attends (& It Isn't Cheap)

Suri Cruise, the daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, became one of the world's most famous children, thanks in large part to who her parents were. However, it was also because there were so many rumors and tales surrounding her birth and upbringing. Because of Tom's relationship with Scientology, there were rumors that Holmes had to give birth in total silence . It was because of this mythology that the world became fascinated by Suri and the kind of life she would lead .

After Tom and Holmes split in 2012, Holmes essentially raised Suri alone, with Cruise reportedly distancing himself from them. In 2014, Holmes spoke to People about the difficulties of working as a single mom. "Am I enough? Am I doing enough? Have I seen her enough?" Holmes said. "Guess what? You're not enough, she hasn't seen you enough, you're horrible: That's how it can feel sometimes."

But Holmes has certainly made the best of it and raised Suri in New York City with as much privacy as possible. Part of this New York City life included Suri's schooling, a choice that had to be made carefully, factoring in her privacy and security. So Holmes ended up picking an exclusive private school for her daughter's education.

Suri Cruise attends Avenues in Manhattan

Katie Holmes enrolled her daughter Suri Cruise in Manhattan's Avenues The World School, a private school in Chelsea. Up until the age of six, Suri was homeschooled, but Holmes later made the decision to enroll her daughter in the elite New York City school in 2012. Initially, there were rumors that Holmes was going to send Suri to the Convent of the Sacred Heart Catholic School in New York, but the news later broke that they had chosen Avenues. 

Welcoming children from nursery through 12th grade, the private school has some steep tuition.  E! News reported in 2012, at the time of Suri's enrollment, the tuition was approximately $40,000 a year plus an additional $2,000 for fees and technology. As of the 2023-24 school year, the tuition at Avenues was $65,850 a year, according to their website . 

Part of Avenues' culture is that students are required to wear uniforms. When she first enrolled, Suri was photographed on a New York sidewalk walking with her mother in her kilt, polo shirt, and knee-high socks, per Us Weekly . The uniform was actually a plus for Holmes, as she didn't want Suri to stand out from her classmates. "She wants Suri to fit in and be more of a normal kid," a source told Us Weekly of Holmes' decision. A uniform would definitely help her blend in with her class.

Suri Cruise is looking at colleges already

It's amazing how quickly kids grow up. While Suri Cruise got to attend Avenues The World School in New York City, the Daily Mail reported in March 2023 that she was getting ready for college. Suri reportedly has her heart set on fashion school and Tom Cruise is going to pay for her tuition, even though he's been estranged from his daughter for a long time. The payment requirement was stipulated in Cruise's divorce settlement with Katie Holmes. However, Cruise has no say in where Suri attends college.

"Suri is applying to schools all over the place," an insider told the Mail. "[Katie] really does want her to stay in New York so they can be close to each other. Katie takes great pride in her but is also extremely overprotective." The source added that. Holmes is reportedly feeling overwhelmed by this next step in Suri's life. So it's the end of an era for Suri, as she readies for this next phase of her academic life. Plus, fashion school would be a great chance for creativity after all those uniforms at Avenues!

Suri Cruise entered the world in perhaps the most public way possible: the infant child of actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes made her public debut in the pages of Vanity Fair, the center of a lush photoshoot by storied photographer Annie Leibovitz in 2006. A few years later, the famous couple split, and since then, sightings of the father and daughter have dwindled , as has Suri’s presence in the public eye . Her low profile might be why Gen Xers and older Millennials are reacting with disbelief this weekend, as they learn that the tiny, Leibovitz-photographed baby is now a young adult who just graduated from high school.

Page Six reports that until Friday’s graduation ceremony, Suri Cruise was a student at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts , a public high school in New York City with a stunning list of famous graduates including Awkwafina , Sarah Paulson , and Zazie Beetz . Unlike many of the school’s alumni, Suri was globally famous even before her freshman year at the school, and the subject of much speculation given her father’s controversial faith .

Some might cite that faith as the reason Tom Cruise was not there for Suri’s landmark event. A beaming Holmes, who appears to have been responsible for Suri’s upbringing since her 2012 divorce from Tom Cruise, watched from the audience at Manhattan’s United Palace Theatre, as her 18-year-old daughter crossed the stage to claim her diploma.

There’s always the possibility, of course, that Cruise’s ongoing shooting schedule for the next Mission Impossible film prevented his attendance, or that he had another commitment he couldn’t pass up. Or perhaps the name on the invitation to the ceremony threw him: According to Page Six, LaGuardia’s graduation program didn’t list a “Suri Cruise,” only a “Suri Noelle.”

That’s the same name Holmes and Cruise’s daughter used in the playbill for her school’s spring musical, but it's unclear if Suri has legally changed her name. (Either way, “Noelle” is a likely nod to Holmes, as the moniker is her middle name.) As it has with other famous progeny , the answer to Suri's name enigma might become clearer this fall, when Suri will reportedly matriculate at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania's Carnegie Mellon University.

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s Daughter Suri Just Graduated High School

Suri Cruise , daughter of actors Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise , is officially a high school grad.

On Friday, Suri received her diploma from LaGuardia High School in a ceremony held at United Palace, a theater in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood. Her famous mom was there to celebrate the moment, and beamed with pride as she hugged her daughter and posed for photos.

Holmes looked chic in a cream long-sleeved polo and tan pleated trousers, which she paired with shiny silver kitten heels, tortoiseshell sunglasses, and a beige Celine handbag. In pictures obtained by Page Six , 18-year-old Suri can be seen wearing a red graduation gown over a summery white midi dress. The teen carried a matching red graduation cap in her hand as she walked down the street in strappy gold heels with a red floral detail.

Suri’s estranged father , Cruise, did not attend the event. Instead, he was spotted at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour show in London. According to Page Six, Suri seems to have dropped her famous father’s last name entirely, going by “Suri Noelle” in the graduation ceremony’s pamphlet. As previously reported , the two have not spoken in several years due to Cruise’s long involvement with the Church of Scientology.

But Suri is incredibly close with her mother. The duo can often seen exploring the city together, wearing coordinating outfits and grabbing coffee. “You’d struggle to find a mom-daughter duo who are more in sync with each other. They’re a real team—their connection is a beautiful thing to witness,” an inside source told US Weekly in 2020.

Suri Cruise, 18, dolls up for high school prom after revealing college plans

They grow up so fast.

Suri Cruise, the 18-year-old daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, went to her high school prom on the Upper West Side of Manhattan on Tuesday — and she looked like a carbon copy of her famous mom.

The 2024 LaGuardia High School graduate wore a gorgeous white and purple floral dress with a pair of gold heels. Suri wore her brunette hair down and had a white and pink corsage on her wrist.

Her prom date wore a fancy navy blue suit with a light blue tie and a pair of brown shoes.

Earlier this month, Suri who is a senior at the famed LaGuardia High School of Music & Arts and Performing Arts, revealed that she’s going to college at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this fall.

She appeared in a fellow student’s TikTok , which has since been made private, of all the kids wearing sweatshirts from the colleges they are attending.

Suri had on a red Carnegie Mellon sweatshirt and did a cute dance for the camera.

“LaG commitment day,” the caption of the TikTok read.

Suri lives in New York City with her mom. She’s reportedly been estranged from her father for years.

In 2023, a source told Page Six that Tom, 61, “has not seen” his daughter “in a very long time and is not a part of her life.”

Holmes, 45, and Tom welcomed Suri in April 2006, but after the former couple  split in 2011 , the “Mission: Impossible” actor and his daughter drifted further and further apart.

However, Suri has stayed extremely close with her mom.

The “Dawson’s Creek” actress told  Glamour  magazine last year that she likes to “protect” Suri from the public eye “because she was so visible at a young age.”

“I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person. She’s my heart,” Holmes added

Suri Cruise is officially a high school graduate!

The daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise celebrated getting her diploma from LaGuardia High School on Friday with her mom by her side.

In photos and video obtained by Page Six, she could be seen ringing in the milestone moment by snapping pics with Holmes and a friend in New York City, where she resides.

The teen was also photographed animatedly hugging another recent graduate.

Suri, 18, looked thrilled as she posed with Holmes, 45, for photos outside a brick building before heading into the United Palace Theatre, located in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan.

She rocked a dainty white dress under her red graduation robe, and paired the ensemble with white sandals that had floral embellishments on them. Her brunette hair was styled down.

Holmes, meanwhile, opted for a matching set that consisted of light yellow pleated pants and a collared long-sleeve shirt.

Suri’s father, Tom, was not present at the special event, as they have been estranged for most of her life. He instead attended Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in London .

It was even revealed in the teen’s graduation ceremony pamphlet that she goes by “Suri Noelle” and seemingly does not use her famous dad’s last name.

Suri is expected to  attend Carnegie Mellon University  in Pittsburgh in the fall.

On Tuesday night, she looked all grown up as she headed to senior prom with her friends and a brunette date, who was seen holding her by her waist.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes's Daughter Suri Is Going to College

Now that high school is over, it looks like Suri Cruise’s newest mission is going to college. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’s daughter, who’s stayed out of the spotlight in recent years years, hinted at her future college plans in a ”commitment day” TikTok shared to a classmate’s account on May 20. The 18-year-old grad, who currently attends performing arts school LaGuardia High School in New York City, couldn’t stop smiling as she seemingly announced which university she’d be attending.

In the TikTok, which was captioned “LaG commitment day," Cruise joined her other classmates in wearing sweatshirts announcing where they were planning on going to college. As Miley Cyrus’s song "I'll Always Remember You” from Hannah Montana played in the background, Suri and her friends danced in the halls of their school and showed off their future alma maters. The high school senior made a silly face for the camera and pointed towards her chest to show off a bright red sweatshirt with “Carnegie Mellon” printed in white lettering on it. 

While Cruise didn’t confirm what she’ll be studying in school (although reports suggest she’s interested in a fashion track), her mom Katie said she hoped her daughter would continue to be involved in some of her future projects.

In an April 2023 interview with Glamour , Holmes talked about what it was like having Suri sing songs in her 2022 movie Alone Together and the 2023 Rare Objects . 

“I hope she always does something on my films,” she said. “I always ask her. But both of those experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people. And it’s this safe, beautiful, creative space.”

She continued, “So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly. That’s how I like to work. I like to have that kind of feeling. It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she’s my heart.”

However, the Dawson’s Creek alum said she’d also struggled with figuring out how much to “protect” Suri from the spotlight.

"What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her," she said. "I'm very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She's an incredible person."

According to Page Six , Holmes reportedly helped her daughter with her college applications (and is reportedly “overwhelmed” by the thought of becoming an empty nester), but Cruise “has always been determined to forge her own way,” a source said. “She is a smart girl, and she is turning into a very intelligent, mature young woman. She has a very close group of loyal friends, and she knows exactly where she comes from.” Of Holmes, they added “Katie takes great pride in her, but is also extremely overprotective.”

Holmes has been protective of her daughter her entire life, seeking to keep her life private, though her parents (who divorced in 2012) are very famous.

Access reports that the prestigious Carnegie Mellon—located in Pittsburgh—is “known for its acclaimed drama and computer science programs.” But, according to The Daily Mail , Cruise will nix following in her very famous parents’ acting footsteps and is reportedly “leaning towards” studying fashion as she graduates from LaGuardia High School. In a new interview with The Sunday Times , Holmes—herself a style inspiration for many, specifically in terms of street style—told the outlet that she has saved some of her old outfits for her daughter.

Holmes is a fashion icon in her own right, specifically when it comes to street style.

“I’ve saved some things here and there,” Holmes said. “But she has her own sense of style and her own expressions.” Of Cruise borrowing clothes from her mom, “Sometimes the basics definitely disappear,” Holmes teased. “But that’s fine.”

It seems like only yesterday that Tom Cruise was jumping on Oprah Winfrey 's couch and professing his love for Katie Holmes . Oh, the memories. Of course, that relationship ended over 10 years ago, and since then, the famous couple (or at least Katie) has gone out of their way to shield their only daughter, Suri , from the media spotlight.

Flash forward to 2024, and Suri is all grown up and headed to college!

The 18-year-old has let fans into her life for the briefest of moments to share where she has committed to spend the next four years of her life. Read on for the details.

So, where is Suri Cruise going to college?

In a TikTok set to private , Suri appears with her high school classmates to share where they are committing to college.

As InStyle reports, the famed daughter attends LaGuardia High School for the performing arts in New York City.

LaGuardia boasts a pretty famous list of alumni , including but not limited to Jennifer Aniston , Awkwafina , and Timothee Chalamet, as well as Ving Rhames, Wesley Snipes, and Sarah Michelle Gellar, to name just a few.

This year's graduating class announced where they intend to attend college by wearing school swag. The video was set to the song "I'll Always Remember You” from Hannah Montana , and revealed that Suri will go to Carnegie Mellon via her sweatshirt. She is reportedly planning on majoring in fashion.

Carnegie Mellon is located in Pittsburgh, Penn., and boasts a student body of over 14,500, per its website .

Suri Cruise is reportedly estranged from her dad, Tom Cruise.

While Katie has reportedly singlehandedly raised Suri, it has been widely claimed that Tom isn't in his daughter's life and hasn't been for many years.

Page Six reports that the Top Gun: Maverick star hasn't seen Suri in person since 2012.

While we don't know for sure what their relationship is, at the time of writing, neither of Suri's celebrity parents had commented on her college commitment.

For her part, Katie said in a 2023 interview , "What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her."

The fashionista also said, "I'm very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She's an incredible person."

Katie also dedicated her movie Rare Objects to Suri. The star daughter sang a song for the film, which wasn't her first time doing so, having also lent her talents to Alone Together , per People .

Suri Cruise, 18, reveals the college she will be attending — and it will be bittersweet for mom Katie

 suri will graduate from high school this month.

Forget New York or Los Angeles, Suri Cruise will be heading to the Midwest for college, attending the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University. 

The private research university in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was established in 1900 and sits in the city formerly known as the Gateway to the West. 'Suri made the revelation in a TikTok video, seen by Daily Mail,  which was posted by a friend and showed her group of friend's wearing their chosen college's sweatshirts. 

Suri wore the red sweater with the words "Carnegie Mellon" emblazoned across the chest, and a big smile on her face. 

It is thought Suri will study at the School of Arta, and specifically inside the Design department, which offers a variety of subjects and is suitable for students with interests ranging from graphic designers, illustrators, animators, fashion designers, and artists, all housed under one department. 

The teen is expected to graduate from LaGuardia High School in June; LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, often referred to simply as LaGuardia or "LaG", specializes in teaching visual arts and performing arts, and past alum include Jennifer Aniston, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Nicki Minaj and The Summer I Turned Pretty 's Lola Tung.

The decision to move to Pittsburgh  will be a bittersweet one for mom  Katie Holmes,  though, with the Dawson's Creek alum having raised Suri as a single mother in New York City following her divorce from Tom Cruise. 

The Hollywood star is  very close with her daughter , and it was reported she helped her with the application process to various colleges. 

The mother and daughter duo are often pictured out and about enjoying New York City together, and Katie was recently joined by her parents,  Martin and Kathleen, to cheer on Suri as she starred in a performance of Head Over Heels  in New York in early May, with the teen taking on the role of Philoclea in the stage show. 

The playbill also revealed that Suri appears to no longer be going by her birth name  of Suri Cruise professionally. Instead, she has adopted her mom's middle name and was listed as Suri Noelle.

Suri cruise’s dashing prom date revealed as budding musician, high school classmate toby cohen.

Suri Cruise’s dashing prom date has been identified as budding musician Toby Cohen.

Cruise, who turned 18 in April, was seen beaming as she stepped out arm-in-arm with Cohen at the event Tuesday on the Upper West Side.

The twosome appeared incredibly close, with Cohen captured slipping his hands around Cruise’s waist at one point during the evening.

However, the pair are set to go their separate ways in the fall.

The daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise will be studying at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

Cohen, who is a singer, songwriter, pianist and guitarist, frequently shares his musical endeavors on TikTok and YouTube.

Video of Cohen playing piano and singing at a LaGuardia High School recital earlier this year is still available on the school’s YouTube account.

Holmes was not seen at the event. The mother and daughter are known to be extremely close and live together in New York City.

Cruise has reportedly been estranged  from her father for years.

In 2023, a source told  Page Six  that Tom, 61, “has not seen” his daughter “in a very long time and is not a part of her life.”

Avenues: The World School is a private school in New York City for nursery through 12th grade that costs $56,400 per year.

Avenues operates campuses in New York City, Sao Paolo, Brazil, and Shenzhen, China. The New York campus was the first to open in 2012, but Avenues plans to build campuses in at least 20 cities in the next decade, including Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Dubai, Hong Kong, London, Miami, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and Singapore. Avenues wants to be thought of as " one school with many interconnected and interdependent campuses  located in the world's leading cities," according to the website.

Parents of Avenues children reportedly range from hedge-fund managers and entrepreneurs to tech millionaires and celebrities. Suri Cruise, the daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, reportedly attended the school . 

Students at Avenues are given MacBooks and iPads, take yoga and dance classes, and graduate fluent in either Mandarin or Spanish.

Tuition includes all books and materials, field trips, transportation to and from school activities, lunch, snacks, athletic uniforms, and educational technology such as the Apple products.

I took a tour of the New York City campus in Chelsea with Alissa Dufour, the school's communication director. Here's what it looked like.

The 1,650 students come from all over Manhattan, parts of Brooklyn, the Bronx, Hoboken and Jersey City, and even from as far as Long Island and Western Connecticut — often because their parents already commute into the city, according to David Buckwald, the director of admissions.

Parents of Avenues children range from hedge-fund managers and entrepreneurs to tech millionaires and celebrities. Suri Cruise, the daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, reportedly attended the school . 

Avenues also attracts international families who are living in New York and who perhaps have multiple citizenships, Buckwald said.

The school is in Chelsea, an affluent Manhattan neighborhood just south of Hudson Yards, the city's new $25 billion development.

Avenues operates campuses in New York City, Sao Paolo, Brazil, and Shenzhen, China.

The New York campus was the first to open in 2012, but Avenues plans to build campuses in at least 20 cities in the next decade, including Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Dubai, Hong Kong, London, Miami, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and Singapore.

Students can also take online courses.

"One [of our students] is a pre-Olympic athlete, one is starring on Broadway, and they're able to take a semester leave of absence but stay enrolled in Avenues through our online campus," Buckwald said.

Chelsea, an area known for its art galleries, is one of the city's wealthier and more expensive neighborhoods.

The median household income in Chelsea is $111,665, as compared to $60,762 citywide.

And the median sale price in Chelsea in 2019 was $1.2 million, according to Property Shark.

Approximately 16% of students at Avenues receive financial aid , Buckwald told me, and the school provided more than $9 million in financial aid for the 2018-19 school year.

Avenues, I noticed, is right across the street from public housing, the Chelsea-Elliot Houses.

I visited Avenues last spring for a tour of its campus and to speak to the admissions director.

Avenues is a highly selective school and uses a holistic admissions process, which means they "look at many components of an application or a candidacy in context with each other and not necessarily relying on one piece more than another or looking at some kind of a formula to predict admissions decisions," David Buckwald, the director of admissions, told me.

The school does not release its admissions rate.

This is the main entrance where students enter the school.

To apply to Avenues, prospective students and parents submit an online application and a $100 fee. The rest of the process varies by grade level. 

For students in nursery, pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade, Avenues conducts small playgroups to assess potential students, where they watch how students play when they're unsupervised and how they take directions.

After telling security I had an appointment, I checked in at the front desk and waited to be picked up the school's communications director, Alissa Dufour.

If a student is entering Avenues in high school — grades nine through 12 — admissions conducts a conversation with the student.

For the middle grades, Avenues implements what it calls "design challenges," where a potential student is paired up with another applicant at the same level and asked to create an object from random materials provided. During this challenge, the admissions team is looking for signs of empathy, creativity, resourcefulness, collaboration, and a willingness to ask questions.

"We learn a lot about the student and if they may be a good fit here," Buckwald said.

Near the front entrance of the school is Restore, a café where students can grab breakfast, lunch, snacks, pastries and sweets, and hot and cold beverages throughout the school day.

The café is open to parents, faculty, staff, and visitors from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Parents and students pay by swiping their ID badges.  

The school also has its own gift shop selling Avenues swag, which was closed at the time of my visit.

Avenues puts a heavy focus on technology .

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade are issued an iPad Air, grades 6-9 are given a MacBook Air, and grades 10-12 receive both a MacBook Air and an iPad.

Starting in sixth grade, students can take the devices home with them.

The cafeteria was huge and filled with light from the windows overlooking the High Line park.

On the day of my visit, the menu included beef, California turkey, and samosa sliders with a bean mango salsa dip.

I spotted two Bevi machines in the cafeteria, which dispense still and sparkling flavored water.

The healthy food options at the cafeteria included a salad bar, a fruit salad bar, and various fresh fruit up for grabs.

I looked at a sample Avenues lunch menu, and dishes included maple sweet potato soup, whole wheat pasta with "revved up" marinara, a miso chicken rice bowl, all-natural beef burgers with whole wheat buns, spiced sweet potato enchiladas, steamed edamame, roasted zucchini, tabbouleh salad, and organic kale salad.

We went upstairs to check out some of the classrooms, and I was surprised by the lack of individual desks in some of the rooms.

Classes for the upper grades at Avenues are conducted in a seminar style, as they often are in colleges.

Avenues offers Spanish and Mandarin as foreign languages, and from nursery through fifth grade, half of students' classes are taught in one of those languages.

Students will spend one day taught completely in English and the next day immersed in Chinese or Spanish. 

Avenues' goal is to have students fluent in a second language by the time they graduate.

Looking out an upper-floor window, I spotted the High Line park below.

"We try to push students out into the community for science experiments on the High Line," Buckwald told me. "And the first artwork they see beside what's in the school or on their own is right nearby in the [Chelsea] galleries. Pre-K[indergarten]ers doing gallery tours!"

At a student lounge area with a living plant wall, students were chatting, working, and playing chess.

Avenues students don't wear a uniform, but they do have a dress code: Students should only wear black, gray, and white. 

The sports facilities at Avenues include this spacious fitness and weight room.

It comes with weight machines, exercise balls, free weights, treadmills, and rowing machines.

There's also a dance and yoga studio.

Grades nine through 11 at Avenues can sign up for elective fitness classes that include spinning, boxing, yoga, dance, pilates, and martial arts.

Some fitness classes are also taught at the nearby Chelsea Park.

I'd always imagined the main drawback of going to school in Manhattan to be the lack of outdoor space, but Avenues seems to take full advantage of nearby public spaces.

The 20,000-square-foot, full-size gymnasium is on the top floor of Avenues.

Avenues students also have access to sports facilities at nearby Chelsea Piers.

Sports offered at Avenues include soccer, girls' volleyball, cross-country, tennis, basketball, fencing, squash, track and field, baseball, lacrosse, golf, and crew.

There's also a playground on the rooftop.

After touring the main building, I was led a block away on 26th Street to Avenues' newest facility, the Early Learning Center (ELC) & Co.Lab.

The ELC & Co.Lab is home to nursery through kindergarten students on the lower floors, while the top floor is dedicated to grade 9-12 students in science, art, World Course , and English.

This space was home to even more greenery and living plant walls.

All the materials in the four-floor facility were sourced from producers who prioritize sustainability and environmental accountability.

In the ELC, students eat lunch in their classrooms. The fixtures and furniture, including classroom sinks and cubbies, were chosen with the ergonomics of three to six-year-olds in mind.

The natural carpets from renewable sources perform as air filters, reducing airborne dust and allergens, according to the website.

Outside was a spacious play area with tricycles, balls, and even mini-picnic tables.

And just inside is a multi-purpose room for other physical activities.

There is, however, a fully equipped teaching kitchen, where teachers can conduct hands-on culinary projects with students.

Past culinary projects have included making dumplings for the Chinese New Year, for example. 

The upper floor is the Co.Lab, where upper grades have dedicated areas for STEAM subjects: science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

"It's a space for students to work on interdisciplinary projects collaboratively or independently," Dufour told me.

Students can drop in and work on projects both during and after class.

The classrooms in the Early Learning Center feature floor-to-ceiling windows.

The "uniquely designed ceiling treatment addresses room acoustics, height, and act as a system to hang student work as well as provide optimal lighting levels," according to the website.

At the end of the school day, I noticed a line of shiny black cars parked outside the entrance to Avenues. Signs displayed on the windshield displayed a student's first name and grade level.

Dufour later told me that some students get picked up by car in the afternoon by their parents, and others by caregivers. 

They sign up at the beginning of the year and are given a placard, so at the end of the school day, the teacher can read the placard and alert staff inside which child can be dismissed.

"It's just a way to simplify the dismissal process and ensure that students get home safely," Dufour told me.

Many students also take public transportation or ride private buses or buses through the NYC Office of Pupil Transportation, she said. 

To round out my tour, I went up to the High Line to get an alternate view of Avenues. Walking past, I could peek into the cafeteria where I'd been an hour before.

Avenues is too new of a school to have produced any notable alumni at this point. But I could immediately see why its curriculum, student experience, focus on foreign languages, international footprint — and of course, exclusivity — appeal to well-off, global-minded parents and students.

Tom Cruise’s daughter Suri is going by a new last name.

At her graduation Friday from LaGuardia High School in New York City, the 18-year-old opted to give her name as “Suri Noelle” instead of Suri Cruise; she also used that name earlier this year when she appeared in a high school production of the jukebox musical “Head Over Heels.” Noelle is the middle name of her mother, Katie Holmes.

The “Risky Business” actor appears to have skipped Suri’s graduation weekend to hang out instead Saturday with all the celebs at Taylor Swift’s Eras tour in London , where he is filming another “Mission: Impossible” installment.

Holmes and Suri didn’t seem bothered by his absence on graduation day. The mother-daughter duo, perhaps eager to “shake it off,” were seen giggling and taking photos together outside of the graduation venue in celebration of Suri’s achievement.

Suri was born in 2006, just before her parents tied the knot. TomKat stayed together until 2012, when Holmes filed for divorce , but Cruise was plagued by rumors that he had abandoned Suri in the process. In a 2013 defamation lawsuit filed by Cruise against Life & Style and In Touch publisher Bauer Publishing, the “Mission: Impossible” actor said, “The assertion that I ‘abandoned’ Suri after my divorce is patently false. I have in no way cut Suri out of my life — whether physically, emotionally, financially or otherwise.”

Cruise said he and Suri, who was then 6, “spoke on the phone nearly every day” and that he “regularly asked for and received updates concerning her friends and school life.”

Cruise is also the father of Bella, 31, and Connor, 29, whom he adopted with Nicole Kidman when they were married. Last year, he was photographed in public with Bella and Connor, reportedly for the first time in 15 years.

Katie Holmes' daughter Suri is officially a high school graduate!

The actress, 45, and her 18-year-old daughter were photographed celebrating Suri's big moment after the teenager graduated from her New York City high school on Friday, June 21.

Suri wore a red cap and gown over a white dress and was seen posing for photos with her mom, who wore tortoiseshell sunglasses and a white collared shirt, paired with white pants and silver heels. The pair was also photographed hugging and walking together after the event.

In her school's graduation ceremony program, Suri goes by "Suri Noelle" instead of "Suri Cruise."

That same weekend, Suri's dad Tom Cruise , 61, was seen attending Taylor Swift's Eras tour at London's Wembley Stadium. After five years of marriage, Cruise and Holmes split in 2012 .

Earlier in June, Suri seemed to point to her college plans in a TikTok celebrating her senior class' chosen colleges.

In a video honoring "decision day" (also known as "sweatshirt day"), Suri appeared in a TikTok with classmates, who all wore sweatshirts celebrating the colleges and universities they have committed to attend in the fall.

Suri could be seen wearing a Carnegie Mellon sweatshirt, pointing it out during the video.

In the April 2023 issue of  Glamour , Holmes discussed her daughter singing in two of her latest projects, Alone Together, which Holmes directed, and Rare Objects.

"I hope she always does something on my films. I  always ask her ," Holmes revealed.

"But both of those experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people," she said. "And it's this safe, beautiful, creative space. So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly."

"That's how I like to work. I like to have that kind of feeling. It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she's my heart," she added.

The summer's coming to a close for the hottest 6-year-old in NYC!

And while we're a bit sad this probably means Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise 's endless daytime outings are about to dwindle (you know, at the museum , the gymnastics store and even the pet shop ), all eyes have shifted to exactly where Suri will tote her stylish backpack for the first day of first grade.

Although we initially had a strong source tell us Suri would be attending Convent of the Sacred Heart Catholic School, the latest report suggests Katie has enrolled her daughter in Avenues , a posh private institution located in the Chelsea district of NYC.

When asked for comment, the Avenues' World spokesperson told E! News, "It is our policy not to comment on any prospective or current student, parent and family members."

So perhaps Holmes is trying to steer away the relentless paparazzi or maybe she's had a change of heart. But either way, Suri has to learn how to walk on her own two feet , so here's everything you need to know about the young star's transition to the big-girl world:

No Special Treatment: Despite Suri's famous fam, her last name won't earn her a free ticket to enrollment. In the opening year, each student is given an equal opportunity for acceptance. But in the subsequent years, there will be special consideration for siblings of previously enrolled students. As for the type of students the school is seeking? Avenues' website states that they expect students to have diverse interests and talents, as well as a unique background. Sounds like a fabulous fit for the savvy six-year-old!

Advanced Coursework: Suri will enroll in the Lower Curriculum school, where a formal modern language immersion program in Mandarin Chinese and Spanish will be introduced. Reports confirm cruise played morticia addams in her high school production of “the addams family: a new musical.”.

Suri Cruise has acting in her genes. The daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise has been exploring acting, with there being reports of her starring in one of her high school plays.

Page Six reports that Cruise was cast in one of the lead roles of her high school’s end of the year production. She played Morticia Addams in “The Addams Family: A New Musical.” Audience members report being impressed by her work. “She was amazing,” they said. The publication claims Cruise thanked her teachers and classmates in her bio, and that she made no note of her parents.

Despite her young age, Cruise has experience in various areas of the entertainment industry. Over the past year, Cruise performed a cover of “ Blue Moon ” that was featured in the movie “ Alone Together ,” written, directed and starred by Holmes. “She’s very, very talented,” said Holmes.

Two of America's most famous kids are Suri Cruise (the daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise) and Barron Trump (the son of Melania Trump and Donald Trump). Both Suri and Barron graduated in 2024 and are entering college. Suri is enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University, which she seemingly revealed with a fashion statement in June 2024. Barron is attending a university in New York, but as of writing the name of said university has not been revealed. Wherever it is,  Melania will mostly be living near Barron in New York for the next four years , no matter what happens in the 2024 election.

Unfortunately, Barron and Suri's famous fathers may cause trouble during their time in college. The List spoke to NYC Neuropsychologist Dr. Sanam Hafeez, the Director of Comprehend the Mind , who told us that Suri and Barron may be under a microscope. "Being in the public eye, both Suri and Barron will likely face more scrutiny than the average college student," Hafeez said. "The media attention surrounding their family backgrounds and public profiles could add extra pressure to their adjustment period, making it harder to blend into a college environment and find a sense of normalcy."

Hafeez said another issue for Suri and Barron could be their privacy getting invaded by people on-campus and in the wider world, due to being from well-known families. However, it may be worse for Barron.

Barron Trump may have a harder time in college

Speculating on Suri Cruise and Barron Trump's college experiences, Dr. Sanam Hafeez described how their families come from two different worlds. She told The List, "This difference could affect how each is perceived on campus. Barron may face political scrutiny or polarizing opinions from students based on his often polarizing father, which could create a more challenging social environment for him."

Suri's father Tom Cruise has missed out on big moments in her life due to their estrangement. Hafeez pointed out how Suri will just have Katie Holmes to help her with the college transition. Hafeez continued, "However, Barron has Donald Trump's influence, which might come with additional expectations or pressures, especially given Trump's dominant public persona."

The List also spoke with Hafeez about Suri specifically, and how Holmes might have prepared her to have successful college years. "By fostering independence and a social network in her teenage years, Suri likely gained important skills such as decision-making, responsibility, and navigating relationships," Hafeez said. "All crucial for college success." She also felt that living in New York City and having a more normal upbringing was beneficial for Suri. It's not all easy, however, with Hafeez mentioning how entering college is a big change no matter what. But she added, "Holmes' approach to giving Suri a balance of freedom and support might help her handle these pressures better than most children of high-profile celebrities."

Suri Cruise and Katie Holmes' closeness could cause issues in college

Dr. Sanam Hafeez talked about how the closeness between Suri Cruise and Katie Holmes might be a problem, with potential issues being separation anxiety and over-dependence. On the former issue, Hafeez said, "If Suri has relied heavily on Katie for support, she might face difficulties adapting to college life independently." Hafeez also talked about how it might be difficult for Suri to branch out on her own because of Holmes, adding, "Suri may feel unspoken pressure to stay close to home or maintain regular communication."

Hafeez's advice was "finding balance" between their mother-daughter bond and Suri growing: "Suri will need space to establish her identity, make new friendships, and grow independently while still nurturing her connection with her mom." Hafeez said the potential issues she listed are typical, even for non-famous children when they leave the nest. "Suri and Katie can navigate this transition smoothly if they prioritize encouraging independence alongside emotional support," Hafeez said.

On both Suri and Barron Trump's new stages of life, Hafeez said, "Both Suri and Barron will need to navigate the complexities of independence, privacy, and public attention as they head to college, and both will likely rely heavily on their mothers' support to do so." She said the two of them have similarities, but their college lives will be shaped by their individual family lives.
