It has a hilariously creative video section as well. Although it's a bit less reliant on visual content compared to some of the other sites on this list, the articles on Cracked are well worth reading and sharing again and again.

If you live in a place with light pollution, it's probably been a sec since you've seen a constellation. Thankfully, Star Atlas has come through with a digital view of the night sky at your location.

20. OMFGDOGS

Careful with this one — if you're prone to seizures, don't click. This site is a daydream/nightmare of dogs running across a rainbow background that reads "DOGS" over and over. Why, you ask? More like why not .

TV Tropes is a website that catalogs and describes various conventions and devices (or “tropes”) found within creative works such as novels, movies, comics, and television shows. If you’ve ever thought “why do so many TV shows have this plot point in common?” you’ll find a lot of value in the analysis from this site.

TV Tropes includes a wide variety of trope examples, including plot devices, character archetypes, themes, and much more. And they tend to get extremely specific. For instance, have you heard of “Flanderization?” It’s when one personality trait of a TV character gets more and more pronounced as the show goes on, to the point where it seems to become the one and only defining trait. It’s named after the character Ned Flanders, from The Simpsons.

Radio Garden

If you’ve ever wondered what the radio sounds like in Paris, Buenos Aires, or Beirut, this is the website for you. Radio Garden greets you with a three-dimensional globe that you can rotate with your pointer, and once you select a location, the site’s built-in radio player will immediately play a live radio feed from the area you’ve selected. It’s intriguing, and something you could easily spend hours poking around in.

The site is a non-profit Dutch radio and digital research project developed by the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, the Transnational Radio Knowledge Platform, and five European universities. Find the Invisible Cow is a simple web-based game where players have to find an invisible cow hidden on the webpage. It’s sort of like "Marco Polo" — you’re guided by audio that goes from a soft murmur to a loud scream, getting louder as you approach the invisible cow.

It sounds almost too easy, but walking for at least 30 minutes each day packs a ton of powerful mental and physical health benefits. Which is kind of a beautiful thing.  Taking those first steps under the guidance of some of the best educators that TED has to offer is a no-brainer place to start. 

On the flip side of that thought, your selection also doesn’t have to be that deep! Take your mind off of whatever is weighing you down by watching one of Neil deGrasse Tyson’s many TED appearances. 🚀

There are tons of playlists, stations, and artists perfect for boosting your concentration. Whether you are a long-time lofi follower or love to listen to the Harry Potter movie’s score, take a few free minutes to compile your favorite focus music to avoid wasting time skipping songs or getting distracted.

Have a productivity planning day! Use this as an opportunity to be a tourist in your own city! You don’t have to dip into your savings for a little fun. Do a little daydreaming and give yourself something exciting to look forward to at the end of the week. 

This is a great way to shake up the day and change your surroundings. The days can easily run together when you’re simply traveling from your bed to your home office and the couch, day in and day out, but checking out a new local spot can help give you a fresh outlook on your tasks.  

And if you’re anything like me, it also gives you a reason to brush your hair. 💇🏼‍♀️

Ideas to express yourself in ways you might not have thought of before.

There are infinite ways to get creative during the day, but hear me out on this: start by getting a coloring book. Just do it. 

Your home is your oasis! Even if you’re a renter, there are tons of quick and easy DIY projects that can help you spruce up your space for little-to-no cost. 

These projects are also a great way to boost your confidence as a reminder that you are capable of doing anything you set your mind to.  Get in the habit of being proactive and creating the change you want to see around you by turning your house into the home of your dreams. 

One of my favorite quotes of the moment is “you don’t have to be good at your hobbies.” The unrealistic expectation of needing to be good at everything you do has the potential to hold you back from so many things that you might actually love but have never tried.  

Experiment with making your own cocktails to round out the workday, learn to crochet, try a new recipe, or start playing the ukulele. Doing something because it makes you happy is the only reason you need to keep on doing it. 

…But if you are good at a particular hobby, can you turn it into a passion project? 

Personal share : I recently went through my camera roll and selected about 100 of my favorite photos to print off with no intention of framing. That stack of 4×6 pictures now lives at my desk, and I pick it up almost every day.  

Most of them are of friends, places, pets, family, or just good memories that make me smile. 🥲

You can take this same sentiment and make it your own through a single framed desk photo, a picture wall, or even an album as an easy reminder of the little things that make all your hard work worth it! 

This is a common craft to do around the turn of the year but it’s never too late to start! Especially since vision boards typically portray your inspiration for the present-day version of yourself or ideas for the immediate future.  

Take a look through Pinterest, your favorite magazines, and blogs for images, words, and role models that convey the values you want to keep at the forefront of your mind on a daily basis.

Also, what a cute thing to decorate your workspace with!

Seriously, have you spoken to another human being today? Pick up the phone or take a stroll across your office to make those quick but important connections throughout your day.

If you can’t chat right away, set up another time to talk that works for you both! Scheduling can be tough but there’s always time to reconnect with someone you love.

Break up the weekday and hit “refresh” on your brain with a conversation that doesn’t have to do with your work tasks. This also goes for Zoom! If your team is remote, throw 15-min on your coworker’s calendar as a fun surprise. ☕️

Poke around some of your favorite platforms for upcoming seminars or sign up for a networking event to meet other peers in your industry. There are also plenty of forums, pages, and online groups to help you connect with new people in your professional community in the way you’re most comfortable! 

Is there someone at your company who you admire but have never met? Or maybe someone across departments with a job you’d like to learn more about—send them a message! You’ll never know until you ask. 

Gauge their interest, send an introduction, or write thank you emails to potential clients or partners. Then, create templates from those emails to save even more time on this front in the future!

It’s never a bad time to lend a hand.💜🦄

Consider how you can support local businesses. It might feel easier to resort to the top most popular retailers out of habit, but there are definitely a ton of incredible small businesses found on sites like Etsy, or even locally right in your backyard. 

Think: gifts, daily products, locally-grown food options, and cleaning supplies. There are always more options than the obvious choices!

Random acts of kindness are kind of a big deal to us. 🎗

There is so much going on in the world and it feels like the news never stops. It can be tough sometimes to get up and go to work as if everything is okay, even if we don’t truly think it is.  

If you find yourself with a bit of spare time in your workday, spend it wisely by looking for causes and people to help. Donate to a charity, volunteer your time, or even, reach out to your company! Many businesses have budgets set aside or offer donation matching for this very scenario.

Most of these are pointless and of no practical use whatsoever but are a bit of fun and definitely somewhere you can visit when you can’t concentrate. Most of these websites are safe for work but use your own judgment whether to visit them while you’re there or not. I take no responsibility for your random clicks while at your desk!

Bored Panda

Bored Panda is probably the most famous site in the world to use when you’re bored. It’s a news aggregator site that posts randomly interesting stuff from around the world. Whoever, or whatever curates it is awesome as you will find yourself opening articles you would never normally read. What’s more, you will find them interesting too!

Bored Panda is a good first site in the list and gives your brain a bit of a rest without having to switch it off completely.

The Useless Web

The Useless Web is a neat randomizer that takes you to some seriously random websites every time you hit the pink button. Some look to have been crafted specifically for The Useless Web while others just seem genuinely random in all meanings of the word. Hitting the button four times took me to a page where I couldn’t not tweet something, where I hit a guy in the face with an eel, where I directed a floppy worm around a screen and a perpetually falling screen.

I have a love hate relationship with TED . I love it because I’m always learning something new. I hate it because I always discover something new which takes me away from the thing I was learning before. TED talks have become more powerful over time as more people offer their services and ideas. Some of the leading lights of industry, academia, science, medicine, movies and all sorts of areas of expertise have published TED talks and most of them are fascinating.

Project Gutenberg

Project Gutenberg is an amazing resource. With over 50,000 free books that are classics or out of copyright, there is a fantastic array of reading material here. All for free. If you’re a reader and don’t mind the classics, there is a little bit of everything here from Shakespeare to Milton, Mark Twain to Thomas Hardy. There are also audio books on the site too. Most books are downloadable as .txt., .pdf or other formats. What better way to cure boredom than reading?

Honest Slogans

Honestslogans.com is exactly that. A series of slogans or brands that have been reimagined as if they told the truth. Some of them are funny, some are dumb but most are thought provoking and right on point. These slogans are updated all the time so can reflect things that are happening right now. I like this site for a little light humor once in a while.

The Faces of Facebook

The Faces of Facebook is a very cool website that takes all publicly available images on Facebook and puts them on a single page. Click anywhere on the page to zoom in, click on any image within the zoom to be taken to that person’s Facebook profile. The website only uses public available images and it continually surprises me the kind of images people put on the social network and leave them public!

Geoguessr is a browser game that won’t get you fired. It is a great little game that uses Google Maps. It drops you in a random place and you have to figure out where you are from the images you see. You can travel for a short distance up and down the road and if you’re lucky, you will see an identifying feature. If you’re not lucky, you won’t. If you think you know where you are, select a position from the map in the bottom right, hit take a guess and see how far you were out. Prepare to lose a lot of time to this one!

Funny or Die

Funny or Die has been around for years and as long as your computer has sound or you have headphones is a very cool website to visit when you’re bored. A few too many of the videos on here are political for my liking but this should die down soon. Once you get past those, the rest of the content is funny or at least amusing. As long as the sound won’t annoy others if you’re at work, this is a great site to lose time.

StumbleUpon

StumbleUpon is old but gold. Having been up and down in popularity for the longest time, I still have it in my favorites list for when I’m bored or want to wander for a while. You do have to sign up but once you do you get access to a huge range of websites based on your interests or pure randomness. You can them thumbs up or down depending on whether you like them or not.

People of Walmart

Oh come on, don’t tell me this site doesn’t make you laugh! People of Walmart is both a sad example of how far society has yet to evolve and an excuse to laugh at the style choices of others. This site is a unique insight into the lifestyles of the average Walmart shopper. We have all been to the store and we have all seen something we wish we had a camera for. This site celebrates all those times.

If you're bored or have time to kill, perhaps when you're at work or in class, playing a web game is the perfect way to keep you entertained. To help ease the boredom, we've put together a list of the best quick web games to play online.

These addictive games are small and require no commitment or registration. While they're so fun you won't want to stop, they're lightweight enough that you can move on from them at a moment's notice if necessary.

Here are the best quick web games to play online when you're bored.

QWOP is a legendary web game. The goal is simple: successfully run 100 meters. Except, doing that is anything but simple, as you have to manually control the thighs and calves of the runner. Don't be surprised if it takes you a while to get off the start line, but at least you'll have a laugh doing it.

2. Entanglement

Entanglement is the perfect game to play when you're stressed, even if you don't like puzzle games. The goal is to create the longest path through randomly generated tiles that you turn and place. Plus there's some lovely soothing background music.

3. Gridland

Gridland is a match-three game with a twist. There are two phases: day (where you match and gather resources to build your village) and night (where you match to fight off invading monsters.) Time only progresses when you make a move, so it encourages smart planning. It's extremely clever, but more importantly, a ton of fun.

4. Cookie Clicker

The concept of Cookie Clicker is so banal, you can only truly understand it once you start playing. The ultimate aim is to produce as many cookies as possible. You do that by clicking a cookie. That's it. You can then trade the cookies in at the store to buy power-ups to automate tasks, like a reinforced cursor or a grandma.

Threes is a popular mobile game that has been turned into a web game. You slide numbered tiles on a four-by-four grid to combine them into multiples of three. The aim is to earn the highest score by stacking and achieving rare tiles. Though it seems simple in concept, it's delightfully difficult to keep games going more than a few minutes until no moves remain.

6. The Wiki Game

Wikipedia is a treasure trove of interesting information . The Wiki Game makes use of the free online encyclopedia by challenging you to travel from one Wikipedia page to another by using the internal links on the page. It also times you based on how easy the challenge is.

For example, getting from the start page of The Pacific War to the end page of Sea is relatively easy. On the other hand, moving from Electric Chair to HTML is a bit trickier.

7. Line Rider

Line Rider arrived in 2006 and became a sensation; it even ended up on the Nintendo DS and Wii. You don't need those consoles though because it can be played directly in the browser. Use your cursor to create lines, which the little figure then rides along. Get creative as you can by drawing loops, ramps, and insane jumps.

As one of the most iconic games ever made, Pac-Man hardly needs introduction. This arcade classic is available to play for free in your browser. Control the little yellow chomper, eat all the dots, and dodge those pesky ghosts.

9. Quick, Draw!

Quick, Draw! is not only a game, but also a way of training a neural network. You are presented with a word and then get a short amount of time to doodle it. As you draw, the system tries to guess what it is based on machine learning. Your drawing is then used to help train the machine in the future.

Frogger is a classic 1980s arcade game. It's had loads of sequels and clones through the years, but the original still holds a lot of charm. This web game is a recreation of the original. If you've never played Frogger, you need to correct that. The objective is to hop your frog to the other side, avoiding traffic on the road and a hazardous river.

Color Pipes has plenty of levels to keep you entertained for many visits. In the game, you must pair colors together by drawing lines between them. You also need to have the entire board covered. The only problem is, if any of the lines cross then the move is invalid. Simple yet addictive.

Slime Volleyball is an old online game, but it stands the test of time. You can either play against the computer or a friend. You control a little blob—or slime—as you hit a ball back and forth across a net. Should the ball touch the ground on your side, it's a point to the opponent. The Slime series expanded into other sports, but volleyball remains the best.

Wordle is a free daily word guessing game that challenges you to guess a five-letter word in six attempts. As you guess, the tiles change color to represent how close you are to the correct word. A new word is available at midnight to keep you coming back for a slice of fun.
