The castle was built in the Scottish Baronial style and is surrounded by a garden and commands stunning views of the nearby mountains, lakes, woodlands and valleys.

King John's Castle

About King John's Castle

Located alongside the River Shannon in County Limerick, on King's Island. Dating back to 922, to a time when Vikings were the inhabitants of the island (Thormodr Helgason, the Viking sea-king, built the first settlement here. The castle itself was built in 1200, under the instruction of King John of England.

He really made sure we were taken care every step of the way by making sure we arrived to visits before the crowds and recommending shorter bathroom lines. The Irish Adventure is a demanding itinerary but well worth it the natural beauty of Ireland combined with trips curated by CIE made it the best trip possible. We especially enjoyed the Ring of Kerry and the Cliffs of Moher. Every hotel was comfortable and the staff were kind. We were especially pampered at the Ballygarry Estate in Tralee and would happily stay there again to bask in the beautiful grounds there.

Hello, We completed our 5 day south west Dublin tour last night and I just wanted to say how thrilled we were with everything. We had Dan as our Tour guide who was a true gem. We seriously couldn’t have met a nicer kinder man. He was a true story teller and his knowledge was incredible . He had a great sense of humor and generally cared about everyone in his group. The Great Britain and Ireland tour was superb. The tour director and driver were excellent and made the journey fun and relaxing. The group of strangers that started became a family before the adventure ended with many exchanging information for future contact.

Fast paced fantastic way to cover a large area of the UK and Ireland. Amazing local experts and wonderful traditional dishes eaten in some spectacular locations. Our tour director was amazing and knew the ins and outs of each location, and could easily direct us to the sights we were most eager to see based on our individual preferences.
